So! Birgit thinks Cory should stay. Should he? Will she start to singing “Don’t Worry. Be Happy.” to try to convince him?  And will Cory join in if she does?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Yeeah, not quite.

  • Foye

I wonder if any government at all is prepared for an invasion from hell? I’d have doubts even if I lived in the young protectors universe.

    • Adam Black

      Bust out the Amber.

  • davefragments

    interesting, fascinating…

  • Cory, maybe you should stay with your brother, I know I was all “go to Mitch”, but I am thinking you should not go because I don’t Mitch losing you to become part of a tragic backstory.

    • Juliette Leroux

      Yes indeed!

  • Adam Black

    What No secret back cannons?
    No bullet proof umbrellas?

No Salt and Potion machine guns?

Maybe Birgit really is just hired help.

I was really looking forward to Bigit Mary Popper, Demon Hunter.

I dont think My heart can take this much disappointment.
Dont worry, i can hold out from ragequitting , at least until the main character finally returns. ( A Certain Giant Floating Eyeball ) .

    • davefragments

We named the eyeball — George.

      • Adam Black

        You named his George?
And not his demon Eyestalk Parenbuds? Wont they be surprised.

Fine , I name you Dave. Now go forth in your Daveness, and proclaim the Doctrine of Dave.

        • Chris Dangerfield

Dude he was named George Finnegan Eyeball over a year ago… maybe you were righteously high at the time. Not that I know anything about that… 🙂

          • Adam Black

I couldn’t break through the wall of blood and pain to attend, but I heard it was a beautiful ceremony.

          • Chris Dangerfield

When you miss your best friend’s wedding you don’t get a second chance. Life is rough.

          • Adam Black

            Contact lens fitting?

          • Klaus

You may. He might marry again later.

        • davefragments

          I didn’t name him George.

    • Chris Dangerfield

      George Finnegan Black?

      • Adam Black

You are rushing things just a little there.

I would have to get in a long line

      • Edwards. George Finnegan Edwards.

Great.. Now my brain went to that huge Team Edward vs. Team Jacob (Black) that Twilight fans went through, some years back. My brain is clearly getting tired xD

        • Chris Dangerfield

Yes, but Edwards was a stand-in for eyeball… but you are technically correct. I was being silly with Adam BLACK…

          • See, that makes sense. My brain just took a looooong detour, because of the coinsidence LOL

          • Adam Black

Its always funny — till someone loses an Eye.
BUT , if you take this one from @disqus_5yYGRkSeuL:disqus …

            the laughter might stop.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            True fact.

  • Birgit’s trust is about to break. Military (government) *did* send them out towards danger. Guess hell on earth preceeds any ‘normal’ situation – when young heroes are the most powerful around.

They just all forgot the human factor, and the option of young heroes taking it a large step further by making (necessary) plans of their own 😉

  • Now I don’t know if I hope Diego open his eyes, or if I want him to be unconscious through it all.
For Cory I hope first, but sometimes ‘ignorance’ is bliss. Even this kind.

    • Adam Black

But hes missing an amazing Sunset.
He needs to wake up or lose his Instagram followers

      • davefragments

That’s a Sunset that I can do without.

        • Adam Black

          Final last words.
          You shouldn’t ever say that.

  • Chris Dangerfield

Okay Frau Brigit gets more interesting on every page.

Not only is Alex NOT AGEIST… but he’s fascinatingly not. Now I want to know what her story is. I suspect it’s not simple or boring … I think a Patreon milestone story on her may be called for. LOL.

And yes Cory and Mitch should date happily for a long time! 🙂

Thanks Team Woolfson. Another week made so much better! Thank you!

    • Adam Black

No 300 word gesture-by -gesture analysis this week?

      No teasing apart everyones motives?

What, no thanking each member of the Academy?
      Its still coming right?

This page took a sudden unexpected Dark turn.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Oh Adam… you want so much for free. LOL.

        • Adam Black

Dont push it, Ive hit peak Boredom early tonight.

Ive been fighting the urge the Write One ‘in the style of Chris ‘ for 30 mins.
Beating you to the punch would be like stealing a virgin you didnt even know you had.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Well said. I’m leaving the virgins to the experts. I prefer a bit more experience myself. Virgins are a LOT of work. 😀

          • Adam Black

There isnt really a lot to work with here.
I would have to focus on the furniture and Birgits tailoring.

  • Chris Dangerfield

I don’t mean to be too serious, but I like Brigit’s line in Panel #2 … I was with someone (many years ago who was in the hospital on his final moments) and I did not know what to do. Young… I was young…

And the older nurse said you should stay right here. You are his friend and NO ONE SHOULD DIE ALONE.

Now I’m not saying Diego is dying, but I like that Brigit is right. Cory is family and in this moment his primary duty is to be with his brother. Come what may.

I realize this may not make sense if the world is at stake, but I like the feeling, emotion and context in a human way. Cory SHOULD be with his brother if there is no other option.

This is deep stuff. Love it.

    • Adam Black

Because if Diego is dying ,they need to get Cory out of the hospital before he goes white eyed and levels the place ( again )

Come to think about, maybe this inst the best place for him.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Ooooooh dude you are dark. Yes you are! (okay I love that)… ha.

      • davefragments

I don’t think Cory is going to die. I think the doctors saved him.

        • Chris Dangerfield

Go Dave… I want you to be right. I’m just maundering…

          • Adam Black

No. Cory Going all typhoon again is exactly what this story needs.

Then Birgit can carry him on her back and kick Laampros ass.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Actually you’ve got me all Mary Poppins-ed. So I picture her slinging him under her arm as she takes off with the umbrella and then she and Laampros have tea on the ceiling. This of course changes Laampy forever and he decides that a SPOON FULL OF SUGER is better than world domination…

Well, trust me, it’s complicated, but Brigit makes it all work. I mean she does look like she could kick some Sircea ass… but that’s just my POV of the moment.

            Ta…

          • Adam Black

My first Reaction: NO man has ever told me Ive Mary Poppinsed him before. I’m not sure to be insulted or complimented.

Deeper reaction : Was this a “Poppinsed” with an auto erecting Umbrella.

Does Lampy decided to join the Chimney sweep local?

What medicine is that crazy witch doping people with anyone? A doctors bag isnt a proper medical license.

Its an addictive Hallucinogen isnt it?

          • Chris Dangerfield

Well if you get into supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards, well then you’re into dociousaliexpiisticfragilcalirupus and things just get whackier from there…

I mean, honestly, why do you think Laampros has a giant eyeball floating over his section of hell. YUP. That Disney stuff gets darn crazy.

Woolfson is definitely tampering with the black arts here! 😀

          • Adam Black

Youve clearly had one to many docious. You are slurring your suoicodilaipxecitsiligarfilacrepus . No Flying Umbrellas for you.

    • Agree with you, except for one little detail. It’s Birgit, not Brigit.

Birgit or Birgitte (Gitte) are names used in Denmark too, though it’s getting rarer because very few children have been named it the last 30 years.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Thanks. Ooooops.

        • Klaus

Even Alex calls her “Brigitte” once in the script.

          • Yikes. That’s surprising, But I was fighting my spell check on occasion…

        • Adam Black

          He’s pulling your beach towel.
          Its Gidget.

      • Juliette Leroux

Well, man, jedi hug to your passed self. It mussed have been terrible and I’m sorry.

  • One page left of this little interlude. What will it bring? What I do know, is that it will bring:

    – A cute Cory.
    – Great art from Julie.
    – An interesting end to these ‘page fillers’

What I don’t know is in what way.

    • Saxon_Brenton

At a guess, an emotionally conflicted Cory accepting Birgit’s advice.

  • davefragments

I’m going to sleep. Have a good night.

    • Chris Dangerfield

      You also!

  • Saxon_Brenton

There’s irony in Birgit’s statement in panel 5. It’s sensible, and as far as it goes she’s correct. By rights governments should be anticipating threats like this. Unfortunately superhuman shenanigans frequently involve our friend the ‘unknown unknowns’, and there’s only so far that pre-planning and even a rapid response squad can take you with a threat that blindsides you from left field.

    • Sunseahl Silverfall

This is why the military first response to anything “unknown” is “nuke it”

      • Stephen Hutchison

This is only in bad movies. In real life it’s “reconnoiter and make it not be unknown. Don’t get killed, it’s hard to file a report when you’re dead.”

  • Klaus

He should. She will not. He would, but see answer 2.

    • Chris Dangerfield

That feels like a multiple choice question without the multiple choices. 🙂

      Okay… “C”

  • Sapfo

World is ending, and Cory gets to do nothing. It must be frustrating having this feeling.

    • Adam Black

      watch out for Hurricane Boy

  • Juliette Leroux

Aaand, as the wife of a cop, I now completely see myself in Birgit’s comment, except I didn’t put my trust in the government, but in my man’s cleverness. You can’t spend your life worrying. It does no good to anyone.

  • Shiny Gwilly

welp, they both have good points
yes, at the moment at least, it’d be best for Cory to stay, he needs to be there for his brother after all that happened with them
yes, i’m sure plans and back up plans were made for this type of situation, but even then, things can/still happened to twist those plans up to make all the bad stuff happen anyway
but Cory is not at all trained and will more than likely make things worse and not better….i hope Birgit will remind him of that fact in the next page
but at the same time i want him to go anyway lmao
i love this filler it’s so cool!!!

  • Connor

I’m sure that the government in this story’s universe has plans for a doorway to Hell being opened. I wouldn’t even be surprised if the real-life government has plans for such an unlikely possibility. But I somehow doubt that those plans were updated to reflect the current situation of “All of our most powerful assets are out of contact.”

  • Nate

While I applaud Ms. Roggenbauer’s sentiment regarding Diego… I think it might be fair to state that her trust in the US Government’s “smartest people” may be slightly misplaced.

    (I should know… I used be a DoD contractor. 😉 )

In any case, the situation at the Bony Hula Hoop is far from safe.

    • Klaus

She is not refering to all government amployees, but specifically to those who deal with supernatural threats. Who do not exist in the real world. Unless of course they do.

      • Nate

The problem is, they all WORK for bureaucrats. 😀

      • somebody

        and then suddenly….
the Winchester brothers appeared, sucessfully killed this supernatural thread in just one season and carried on their wayward son, there’ll be peace when they are done. They lay their weary head to rest so we don’t have to cry no more.

        • Curt Clark

PLEASE let’s not get them involved.

There’d be EVEN MORE emo and angst than there already is, half the cast would die (inclding the Commander because we can’t have competent female characters surviving in Supernatural, it’s like a law or something), and the color palette would turn into that of a AAA shooter game.

    • You normally don’t do something, until you have to do it 😉

And then the team took it on themself to go further, something the government in hindsight should have known they’d do if necessary.

…or maybe they did, but now it’s not their fault.

  • bronakopdin

please listen to Ms. Roggenbauer, Cory x’D
not about the army stuff but still…
as much as I’m “n’awwww” about him, I wonder if it’s really helpful for anyone if he got there… he might have powers but lacks any training or experience, he might become a liability instead, needing extra protection or even becoming another hostage or sth D:

  • Nate

In addition, there are two schools of thought when planning for the unexpected. To borrow some language from TV Tropes (which I will be nice and not link to 🙂 ) they are:

Crazy Prepared in which you have contingency plans for EVERYTHING, and…

The Indy Ploy, where you rarely plan at all, but are skilled in adapting on the fly.

The problem with contingency plans, however, is there is always the possibility that you missed a possibility, at which point the whole thing falls apart.

Villains often use the first method.. and lose to a more Indy-style hero (Or a Laser Bear) when all of their intricate plans fall apart. There’s a lovely page in an old Blue Beetle comment about it, and I was lucky enough to find a scan:

    http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k214/sallyp617/Blue%20Beetle/bluebeetlesplan.jpg

    • Juliette Leroux

What we need now is more laser bears.

      • somebody

hell yes!!! laser bears make everything better, even the apocalypse!

    • Klaus

Von Moltke, in addition to that quote you always see, also said: “If your plan leaves the enemy three options, he will invariably choose the fourth.”

  • Abyssdoor

wait, you speak about people you can trust with your life then start talking about the u.s. government?

    • Gregory In Seattle

Well, this IS a fantasy world.

  • D. G.

Even if Cory managed to get away from Birgit’s protection, he probably wouldn’t be able to find or get to the ritual site. He’s better off staying with Diego and waiting for him to wake up.

  • Jason Moon

Common sense or gut feeling? Why do the two never seem to be the same thing?

  • James Wade

Why do I keep reading Brigit in a Frau Bluecher voice?

    • Nate

      *whinny* 😀

    • Klaus

It is funny. In these parts most people would suspect a typo seeing “Brigit”. Or just read as “Birgit”. You see what you expect to see. Who has ever heard of anyone called “Brigit”? “Birgit”, on the other hand, is a common name.

      • Keneu

Brigitte is a common spelling of the name, so I thought “Birgit” was a typo at first.

  • Kate G

*digs self out of bed* I AAAAAAAAAAAM…..tired. Exhausted beyond measure. BUT, I won a gold in my division! Yaaaay! *woots* And my overgrown dog of a horse behaved nicely…not that he could hear anything with the ear plugs in his ears.

It’s an interesting point to leave off. We could go two ways. Right back into the battle or after the battle with a flashback as to what happened.

    • Klaus

      Congratulations.

    • Juliette Leroux

      Congrats!

    • Congrats!

    • Kate G

      Thanks all!

    • davefragments

      congratulations

  • kamishiro

sorry cory buuut she is right, you are where you need to be

  • Shadizar Silvermask

Well that’s obviously false, she’s only saying that to reassure him so he won’t run off into the trouble as well. Everything carries an element of risk especially a situation where you have to call in super-heroes no matter what their age.

  • Keneu

The military may be prepared for supernatural disasters, but they still haven’t showed up on the summoning site.

  • somebody

I just wanted to let you guys know:
I’m sitting here with a bowl full of popcorn, reading the comments since I really enjoy reading the comments on the young protectors.
    You guys are cool
Oh and the page is of course beautiful as always. Love the colours of the apocalypse.

    • Juliette Leroux

We love you too Somebody 🙂 (Must… fight…the urge…of making a stupid “everybody needs somebody” jokes…aaarh)

      • somebody

        >///< thank yooooou Juliette <3
(haha you sure can make stupid somebody jokes xD)

  • Curt Clark

I get why she’s lying to him, and I do agree with her…but it’s definitely a lie.

Cory’s a worrier, though, and I like that about him. He wants to be there for both his brother and his new boyfriend, and is torn about it. He’s way too young to have to worry about people he loves like this, but he’s having to grow up fast.

  • Hello Campers!

    • davefragments

      Hi AJ.

      • How’s it going Dave?

        • davefragments

Reasonably OK. The painting saga is over. I made dinner for my nephew Sunday, and I watched Kurosawa’s RAN (Chaos) last night. How’s you doing.

          • Reasonably OK. 🙂 Had a bad weekend the weekend before last. Starting to normalize a tiny tiny bit from it.

          • davefragments

I didn’t like the season 7 premier of The Walking Dead Sunday. I don’t usually watch horror that wicked, violent, and grotesque.

I have tickets to Pittsburgh Public Theater’s production of The Fantasticks for Thursday. BTW

          • I’m not a huge fan of zombies (or horror) and have been avoiding The Walking Dead like the plague. But I’ve seen the headlines about the terrible terrible thing that happened.

            The Fantasticks?

          • davefragments

The longest running Broadway Musical. You know it from the song “Try to Remember.”
            Here’s the original “El Guyo”
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEW1F9kZ-UE

          • LENNY!!!

          • davefragments

He also played Billy Flynn in one of the first productions of CHICAGO.

          • I’m learning all sorts of things. I never knew Jerry Orback did Broadway. I knew he was the Candlestick in Beauty and the Beast, but heh.

          • davefragments

Law and Order employed lots and lots of actors as their extras and single line speaking roles. Lenny Briscoe was a New York fixture and they hired him to be a detective for a show or two and everyone like him. There is a clip on the internet with him playing the Director in 42nd STREET singing “Lullaby of Broadway”

          • Lenny was Law and Order as far as I’m concerned.

          • davefragments

Yes, most of the audience never realized he did Broadway.

          • It’s a shame that the arts are not given the respect they often deserve.

          • davefragments

The great Jimmy Cagney who most people know as a gangster once said that the role he wanted to play and wish most people remember him for was for playing George M. Cohan (the song and dance man) in Yankee Doodle Dandy. I enjoy musicals. Seen a few up there.

          • I had a friend of mine take me to a local-ish production of Singing in the Rain. That was fun.

          • davefragments

I had an Aunt living in NYC and I got to see a bunch of Broadway in the mid and late 60’s. That was a good time.

          • That’s so cool!!

          • davefragments

A number of years ago, I got season tickets to the Public Theater because the revival of “Man of La Mancha” was there. It was a gift to my Mother. I got season tickets every year after. Some of their stage plays leave me scratching my head but they always entertain.

    • Hello AJ. Doki is tired, haven’t been feeling well and my throat has been playing around with swelling and de-swellling for a few days and has killed what little sleeping schedule I had

      • Hugs for Doki! I’m sorry to hear that. Wonder if it’s the change in weather. We lost power on Sunday from a sudden thunder storm which was not fun at all.

        • I don’t remember having this throat problem before.

  • Hello there 🙂

    • davefragments

      Hi Danish

    • Goodmorning, Ms Wolf!

      • Goodmorning. I barely have eyes yet *yawns*

        • I bet. When is DLS for you?

          • DLS? Don’t know that one.

          • Daylight Savings?

          • Aah, thought it might be it, but not sure. This year it’s the coming weekend, night between saturday and sunday, so I get to have a birthday for 25 hours this year, because one hour repeats on sunday 🙂

For the European countries that have saving times (I think a country or two don’t), it is always happening the last october whole weekend of the month. Meaning last weekend where both dates still are in october. Same goes for March.

          • davefragments

Our Daylight Savings Time ends November 6th. We get an extra hour sleep for the hour lost in March.

          • So a week apart this year. Normally the difference between EU and US daylight change is 0-2 weeks. I like it best the shorter time it is. I know it’s only an hour, but it always messes with my inner clock schedule. I liked it last year when the winter daylight savings happened to be on same date 🙂

          • davefragments

I think that it is dumb.

          • I’d like to see daylights savings go away.

          • davefragments

            Got my vote.

          • I mean days get longer and shorter on their own. Each year I complain, just pick one and stick with it. Tht was one of the best things from my short time living in AZ.

          • Agreed. The summer change can even be worse. US usually changes 2-3 weeks before Europe, because you change the 2nd weekend in March, where we change the last, so a few times that even makes it three weeks.

Irony is that you change to summertime before us, but wintertime after us, so every time it happens, for that 0-3 weeks of difference in timezones twice a year, I ‘lose’ an hour in timedifference to US.
Meaning, where as now I normally show up for camping at 4:30-ish, the camp time moves yo 3:30-ish both at summer and winter. As I said, it messes wih me every time xD

          • davefragments

If I’m awake at those times, it’s a bad night for me. I try to fall asleep before 1am and I want to wake up about 8am.

          • I live for that extra hour.

          • davefragments

            I do too

  • Adam Black

    hello

  • Oh darn. Is Patreon down for everyone?

    • It seems to be there for me.

      • Hmm, I got an Internal Server Error showing for me. I’ll just wait and see then.

    • davefragments

I keep getting “Internal Server Error”

      grumble

      • davefragments

        It’s back for me.

    • Saxon_Brenton

It seems to be working for me.

      • I just tried refreshing again. The glitch seems to be over 🙂

    • Adam Black

      dirty cow?

are you on mobile or PC ?

  • davefragments

    Patreon is rumbling…
