So! Birgit is chill about Flyboy’s after-school activities. Cory finally agreed to eat something. And the sky then filled with flaming black cracks. Wait! What? What’s going on?  Are Mrs. Roggenbauer and Cory safe? Is this just the beginning? Will Cory now think God hates burgers?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Yikes! So we do get to see the big bad here.

  • davefragments

That is an evil looking sky.
I think that Cory might join the gang if he can find them and get close.
I also think that Mrs. Roggenbauer will do something too…

  • Will this have them realize this is why Mitch is gone, and where he is?
Will this be the moment Diego wakes up?

    What happens next?

  • davefragments

    oops

  • Nate

Sorry, Mrs. R. I think neither Gott nor Himmel are involved. =)

    • davefragments

      Is that you, Dr Faust?

      • Chris Dangerfield

Doctor? Well I have this small rash I’d like to ask him about. 🙂

        • davefragments

His examination fee is a little expensive…

          • Chris Dangerfield

Dang… it probably requires your soul or something. I should have been prepared for that one. :/

          • davefragments

            🙂

          • Adam Black

I hear they are easily acquirable

  • Nate

(And I TOLD you guys she was worried that he wasn’t eating right. 😉 )

    • Chris Dangerfield

You are right so often… I suspect there is a crystal ball at NATE-HOUSE!

      • Nate

I wish. I could make killing on the stock market and retire. 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

So if the old weather rhyme goes “Red sky at night, sailors delight/Red sky at morning, sailors take warning,” what does sky with flaming cracks of darkness mean?

    • davefragments

      The hershey squirts?

      • Chris Dangerfield

        So……. (???) he’s the King of chocolate hell? What? I’m confused. 😀

      • D. G.

        Lol

    • Stephen Hutchison

VERY large amounts of Preparation H must be applied liberally to the upper atmosphere, post haste.

  • And just as they were bonding. Laampy really does have bad timing.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Seriously! So rude.

      • Chris Dangerfield

IKR? “King of Hell” does NOT excuse everything. LOL.

        • Adam Black

Not if If you are not a sizequeen.

  • In a short time, Ms. R may not be too happy about where the ‘responsible young lady’ has taken Mitch to be responbsible.

This comic may have started out by being Kyle’s rise to superhero, but he won’t be the only one makinng that progress.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Nicely said. Everyone is growing up… or ‘most’ are. We’ll have to see.

  • davefragments

I wonder if Mrs. Roggenbauer has access to grenade launchers and other weapons?

    • Chris Dangerfield

Okay that would be very cool. She seems like the type who could. Or at the least one of those FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE pumps that if you do something has a poisoned blade pop out of the front and you give a quick kick at the baddie goes down……… well as long as you don’t try it on 007. Then you’re out of action! 😀

      • Adam Black

Poisoned Pumps are the the rage in west Hollywood, arent they ?

        • Chris Dangerfield

Oh come one… every where. Femdom fashion!

          • Adam Black

            I cant wear heels

          • Chris Dangerfield

Yeah, I’m with you on that…

In TORCH SONG TRILOGY, Harvey Firestein said, “Come what may, come what might… I could never walk in flats.”

Just goes to show that we all have our challenges. So, no worries.”

          • Adam Black

            That doesn’t even rhyme.
            Not much of Torch line.

      • I could see Miss R being RED – Retired Extremely Dangerous. ^_^

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Exactly!

        • Nate

I wonder if her maiden name was Butler.

(If not, no harm, no Fowl)

    • Klaus

Sometimes you just get further with a professional attitude and a grenade launcher than with a professionel attitude alone.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        So so true…

  • Stephen Hutchison

It isn’t Gott in Himmel we need to worry about at the moment. It’s Teufel auf der Erde.

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Oh indeed… well noted!

    • bronakopdin

the problem is pure denial: we don’t want to worry about the Teufel x’D

  • Snorlaxation

Typical. Just when he was starting to calm down, too. I do love side stories, and it’s always interesting to see how other facets of the world, or less ‘central’ characters, deal with the apocalyptic repercussions.

  • Snorlaxation

Typical. Just when he was starting to calm down, too. I do love side stories, and it’s always interesting to see how other facets of the world, or less ‘central’ characters, deal with the apocalyptic repercussions.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Well, that synches up the timelines, doesn’t it.

However, I do wonder about Mrs Roggenbauer’s first sentence on this page. The one about Flyboy being sensible. I mean, yeah, most of the time, probably. But I still stand by the assessment from the Flyboy solo story, that Mitch has obsessive compulsive disorder: superheroing. And I expect Mrs R knows the hows and whys of Mitch being kicked off his previous team and ending up with the Young Protectors. I’m not saying that she doesn’t like Mitch, probably quite a bit. But I suspect that here she may be focusing on the positives and saying generically calming things for Cory’s benefit.

    • davefragments

I think like all 15/16 year olds (I think that’s Mitch and Cory’s ages) he tells her the good things after making it all up. She tells him he’s a grid kid but then goes off to verify what they say.

      • Adam Black

Is grid German or a typo ?

        • davefragments

It was supposed to be “great kid.”
It was a typo. I fixed it.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Every time I see “Mrs Roggenbauer” I want to do a YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN… “neiiiiiiigggggghhhhhhh.”

      • Adam Black

I think she just called him Doctor

    • Chris Dangerfield

Is it humanly possible NOT to like our Flyboy? He’s just so darn cute.

      • Adam Black

If demons like him, does that fullfill your premise?

        what about Redhot?

        • Chris Dangerfield

UMMMMMMMM…. no Redhot is going to fall deeply in love with Spooky. AND NO I DON’T CARE WHAT ALEX’S OTP is… I have decided and I will be ALL POWERFUL WITH THIS ISSUE.

(chris looks around to see if anyone is buying his baloney?)

I mean Mitch could go to Doki… I’m willing to make sacrifices to get my way. LOL ….. ha.

          • Adam Black

As Ive suspected * for a while.

( How may have you sacrificed? what type of rituals?
            to what gods? )

            *that you have supervillian tendencies,

          • Doki will make sure Mitch is happy. ^_^ Whoever that may be, and Heaven help them if they hurt him. Doki has special rooms for those that hurt Mitch.

          • Adam Black

            “Special rooms”
Am i the only here without a dungeon?

          • Maybe? Do you need a contractor?

          • Adam Black

            Depends on his stats.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            I wouldn’t have thought so, but I guess you’re saying that’s a yes……… 🙂

          • Adam Black

            Rent is obscene around here

    • Klaus

If she is working as his valet and general minder, how can she not know of his extracurricular activities?

      • Chris Dangerfield

Maybe she secretly approves of them and accepts them as a part of his growing up? You know that “kids” will do the opposite of what you tell them. Maybe Mrs. R… is wiiiiiiise. 😉

      • Adam Black

Yeah She got powers or something.

        • Chris Dangerfield

          That would be rather cool……..

          • Adam Black

@alexwoolfson:disqus was all, “break from the action”

            “characterization” .

But you know shes going to go totally KIngsman on us.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Oh I would love that…
            https://youtu.be/NXB6slJSbL4?t=29s

  • I have this inner image of this ending with Ms. R looking at Cory, saying: ‘You are about the same size, I’ll go find one of the young master’s spare suits’.

And then they both go suit up for war xD

    • Chris Dangerfield

Ha! But then where would you put the obligatory training sequence where everyone immediately becomes an expert with a Japanese sword with magic powers…. (?)

      • Adam Black

This better be a time speeded-up montage .

        • Chris Dangerfield

          One fast page!

      • Oh please, give him some credit. With Cory’s windy punch, all he’ll need is a chopstick or a box of toothpicks 😉

  • Adam Black

Cory needs to suit up , and Hero up

    • Chris Dangerfield

Like me… you just want to see that booty in spandex. HA!

      • Adam Black

I dont remember telling you, i wanted to see you in spandex.

My mind is clearly filled with holes.

        • Chris Dangerfield

Silly Adam… no one wants to see MY booty in spandex. Huh, I’m not even sure my husband wants to see spandex… I think he’d rather see nakedness than spandex…. However MITCH is like Kyle. Looking sweeeeet in the body suit. You know I’m right. Mmmmmmmmmm.

          • Adam Black

            Only when Adam draws him.
( otherwise he looks 15 and then we are creepers )

          • Chris Dangerfield

Okay that is a true fact… I just age him up in my mind.

          • Adam Black

I bet you got jars for everything.

  • Adam Black

@alexwoolfson:disqus You dog , you totally tricked us.
I thought this was a side-tale Hours ago.

This is “Meanwhile, with Flyboys sort-of Delinquent exhero Boyfriend , at the Hospital” ( Don Pardos voice )

    • Chris Dangerfield

OMG… how many times have people been able to describe my ex’s as “sort-of Delinquent exhero Boyfriend(s)”. Sheeeesh. 🙂

      • Adam Black

I dont know. Give us a range to guess from.
Is the Jar of Jellybeans full of sort of delinquent exhero boyfriends?

        How big is the Jar?

How do you get them inside ?

        • Chris Dangerfield

You took too many PHILOSOPHY classes at University didn’t you? 😀

          • Adam Black

OK, so its a Big Jar.

Its totally where you put your sacrifices, isnt it ?

wait , what happens If i guess wrong?

          • Chris Dangerfield

Jellybeans? Easy… you get a bad flavor.

          • Adam Black

Uh-oh! Im callling @Sapfo:disqus to guess.

I dont think I can handle Bad Flavor.
Tasting good is probably all I have going for me right now

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Really? What flavor are you?

          • Adam Black

That would spoil the cream surprise.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            HA!

          • EyeDontNo

Not his sacrifices…. his Virgins. Fortunately for the Virgins, the jar is Big and they have plenty of room to spread out and exercise properly.. 🙂

          • Klaus

Or just a Klein bottle. OK, I don’t suppose many will get the pun.

    • Jeff Baker

Or maybe William Dozier’s voice! 🙂

      • Adam Black

        that works

    • Stephen Hutchison

      Wait, “ex-hero”??

      • Adam Black

        Wasn’t he ?

        • Stephen Hutchison

I don’t think he was. It’s not clear from the back-story, but I think when his parents decided he wasn’t to be around Mitch any more, that his TK was still pretty weak. If he’d been a hero, Mitch would have heard about him in the intervening years, at least. (That’s conjecture, but I think it’s supported by the circumstances.)

          • Adam Black

I thought they were on Mitches old team together.

          • Stephen Hutchison

I know they were both fairly young when they first met up, and Cory’s parents freaked out and yoinked him when Cory and Mitch were found kissing. I can’t say he wasn’t on the team, but still I don’t _think_ so … would he have been on the street if that were the case, if he could go to the team for support? I mean, it’s a possibility but I think Alex would have caught that as a plot hole.

  • camelotcrusade

Meanwhile, in a hospital in Japan, the last panel shows Mothra flying by en route to Save the Earth.™️ Everything else is the same, though.

    • Sanbai

      Yeah! I loved Mothra as a kid…

    • Stephen Hutchison

Stopping on the way to pick up Gamera the Protector of Children.

      • Nate

And Jet Jaguar, because frankly he needs the work….

  • Chris Dangerfield

    GOTT IM HIMMEL!

I’m not sure I can write anything better than that for this moment. WOW. I mean really. That is a lovely sunset and I’m sure every photographer on Tumblr is doing their best to capture that sunset because nature is so special… orrrrrr is it? HA!

I love this moment and I love that it ties together with what is going in the world we are deeply involved with. Also I’m a terrible person. Cory is much too young for me to think he’s as cute as he is. AND HE IS… cute that is.

As always, I can’t wait for the next page. Thank you Alex and to Julie for stepping and rescuing Adam and Vero from immanent carpal tunnel melt-down.

You are all the best and very much appreciated!

  • Klaus

    Nobody is safe.

So Birgit is not not just of German ancestry, German is her native language.

But no, this is not Gott im Himmel. Rather the opposite, in fact.

  • Jeff Baker

This is good! (The story, I mean!) This is not good! (The creepy demonesque cracks in the sky, I mean!) Hmmmm….she reminds me a little of Kraus on the old “Benson” T.V. show. Artwork is marvelous!

    • Adam Black

Turns out Krous was a changeling

  • Sapfo

Where are you taking this Alex? Is daddy coming?

    • Adam Black

      Daddy is here

  • PreludeToA

Who are these people and why should I care?!??

    • Chris Dangerfield

I ask that same question about every new webcomic, book, television series, film, video game, etc, that I’m engage with.

THEN, I give it a few minutes, pages, episodes, etc… and I begin to know the answer to the question about ‘caring’.

Either the author makes me care. Or NOT.

If I find I don’t care, I step away from the art and move on. I think it’s the journey of everyone who is seeking good art.

The beauty of it is that I can always walk out of the ‘museum’ if I find that the exhibit doesn’t connect with me.

We have the power. How nice.

      • Pietro7

Nicely explained, Chris. Kudos and a shiny gold star to you. And when we find those artworks that make us care, we hold them to our beating hearts and say “Thank you, God(dess)!”

        • Juliette Leroux

And when we actually don’t care we just move on with our lives without making that more of a big deal than it is.

    • Adam Black

I assumed you were being facetious.

      If not ,

      read this http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/typ/ete-flyboy-bonus-page-1/

You should care ….all the adult heroes are offworld.
Thats why YP are facing this alone.

Cory is massively powered, and Flyboys sort of Boyfriend
This Valet looks like she might be kick-ass too.

      Shits about to go down.

  • Fabulous Alien

I love Mrs. Roggenbauer’s assessment of Mitch and his team. I get the feeling that “sensible”, “capable” and “responsible” are indeed high praise coming from her.

Also, I saw the first panel and I thought “wow, those are some pretty, soft, soothing colors”. Then I scrolled to the last panel and almost fell off my chair. Alex, I tell you, this should come with a warning!

  • Jeldenil

Poor Cory. Does this mean he’ll have to leave his brother’s bedside to help defend the world? Also, I secretly suspect miss Roggenbauer to be a super, too.

    • or Retired Extremely Dangerous

      • Chris Dangerfield

She will be played by either Hellen Mirren or Judi Dench in the film. Right? 🙂

        • I like Helen more, but I think either one would be okay.

          • xLizardx

Why not a German actress? 🙂 Although Helen Mirren is half Russian, I suppose she could perhaps play it as a Russian part instead.

          • I don’t know if the current German top actresses in the 50+ department would be helpfull – Inge Meysel or Brigitte Horney would have been great, but both died ages ago. Iris Berben and Hannelore Elsner aren’t really the right type for me. Christiane Hörbiger maybe, if Austrian is OK?

        • Ha! I’ve thought the same thing.

        • Adam Black

I’m holding out for Laverne Cox . I just need to hear her German Accent

        • Jason Wexler

          Angela Merkel.

          • No. She’d never be emotional enough to produce a red-framed bubble.

        • Jason Wexler

Also if we’ve been fancasting this comic, can someone point me in the direction of that thread please?

      • Adam Black

I want a cool color based Acronym.
        Give me one for “Black”

        • Terry

Barely Legal Actionable Civilian Knowledge-base: young people brought in to military action to work as tech experts and computer hackers to gather intelligence on the enemy.

          • Adam Black

But I’m not that young anymore.
( I’m not ancient, like Dirt or Chris, but no one will confuse me with jailbait )

  • Adam Black

This sky makes me want a burger too

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Hell Umami-Burger?

      • Adam Black

I’ll put a lot of things on a burger …
But not msg or “fishsauce” . umami is a scam. Hell Umami is redundant.

Pickle juice on the other hand.

  • bronakopdin

    goodness! >/////<

but I love how Mrs. Roggenbauer says "Gott im Himmel" instead of "Oh mein Gott" (or even “Ach du Scheiße”)
not opening any age cliché here but it does seem more fitting for her age 🙂
definitely a sign of good manners, it is less casual somehow xD

    • Chris Dangerfield

IKR? I mean what is the proper thing to say when the King of Hell comes too town? I’m with you. Miss Manners doesn’t have a chapter covering this… I think it’s time for an updated version which includes other dimensions… 🙂

      • Adam Black

I bet Kent Brockman know s

      • Juliette Leroux

We need one for zombie apocalypse also.

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Ha… how could I forget that… braaaaaiiiiinnnns…

  • TwilightDreamer

    …oh dear…..

    • Chris Dangerfield

Oh yes, Succinctly and well phrased. (!)

      • TwilightDreamer

        Haha! Why thank you 🙂

    • Oh devil..

      • TwilightDreamer

Haha, if we’re to be more precise, then yes 😛

  • Aitsuki

Well….. Gott would certainly be helpful at this point….

  • purplefoxglove

Eeeeek! Alex made her speak German! *bounces up and down in excitement like a child on Christmas Day*

Yes, I know, priorities and order and such, but in my defence, I have to say that
    a) if Laampros sticks to the deal, Cory *should* be safe because he is in Duncan’s territory. He is, isn’t he? O.o
    b) I had somehow assumed that the only German thing about Mrs. Roggenbauer was her last name (and, it seems, her attitude). Having her speak German makes me ridiculously happy ^_^

  • Toli Bera

    Done Ooppsed the Forever! D:

  • Malusz

Ah! Of course she had to be German. Nice touch. 🙂

  • Pikinanou

And then that lady gets a shot gun from who knows where and says: You stay here, I’ll be right back.

  • Andy Diehl

    Teufel in Hölle!

    • davefragments

Of all the strange thins – – I know the word “Hölle” from The Queen of the Night Aira in Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE where she sings “Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen”

There’s lots of high F’s in that aria:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2ODfuMMyss

      • Juliette Leroux

Looove this Aria. And this whole opera.

      • Klaus

Mozart had a sister-in-law with an absolutely fantastic voice. He wrote the part of the Queen of Night to give her an opportunity to really show what she was capable of. Both her arias are among the most difficult thing any opera singer is ever asked to sing.

        • Juliette Leroux

Interesting, I didn’t know that! It was one of my parents’ vinyl that I liked to listen at maximum volume when I was alone in the house…

  • SchalaRenee

So glad Laampy makes an (unseen) cameo! I hope the story sort of continues on with this interlude. Like Cory wants to go help Mitch or something, but the German lady (I can’t spell her name. Roggenbauter?) won’t let him. Or SHE reveals some pretty badass super powers and goes to help kick some ass with the team.

  • gahocleric

Had to do a triple take reading the tags O.o I was very confused for a second as to why I was tagged in a page. (My name is spelled Brigit)

    • Klaus

Birgit is a common name in these parts. Maybe also in Germany?

  • D. G.

This is so ominous! Hurry up team typ and push Laampros back through the damn gate!!!

  • fujoshifanatic

I hope this means Cory gets to join in the demonic fray somehow! I suspect his telekinesis could come in very handy in that battle!

    • Klaus

All they need is to push him through the gate, right?

  • Jason Moon

ANY lightning that is not the right color is not even REMOTELY GOOD lightning.

    • Jonni

those are actually cracks in reality as Laampros breaks through the walls of blood and pain… This universe needs codeine.

  • Aaron Alexander Young

It was octarine, the colour of magic. It was alive and glowing and vibrant and it was the undisputed pigment of the imagination, because wherever it appeared it was a sign that mere matter was a servant of the powers of the magical mind. It was enchantment itself.
But Rincewind always thought it looked a sort of greenish-purple.

    • Squishy

      Lol! My favorite quote is:
“I think I’ve just had another Near Rincewind Experience.”
      – Death

      • I love Death.

        • Klaus

Don’t quote that out of context.

          • ??

          • Klaus

There are those who would find it very strange that you love death, if you do not specify that you mean a character from a novel.

  • Aaron Alexander Young

I’m afraid God’s unavailable; this is what’s ‘is name, the other one.

  • Megan Staples

God has nothing to with that, ma’am.

  • Gregory In Seattle

The rulers of Rassilon are trying to reach… no, sorry. Wrong franchise.

  • Juliette Leroux

“Ok, I guess lunch will wait a little bit more, Ms R.”

  • Earl Patterson

probably those lighting from Kyle’s daddy enter world

  • Klaus

    Quel bruit pour une hamburger.

    • Juliette Leroux

      Beaucoup de bruit pour rien?

  • Kate G

“I’m taking it that the burger will have to wait, won’t it?”
“You have powers that are quite invaluable, do you not, Master Cory?”
*sighs* “I’m leaving. Will you watch Diego for me.”
    “Of course, Master Cory.”

It’s that time again….the week of the Special Olympics. My pattern is considerably harder than last year so all I can say is….I go in with guns blazing and hope I don’t throw up on Saturday. I get so nervous at these things. Well, and hope Vince doesn’t spook. He spooks easily.

Cue 16 pages of Corey wandering around aimlessly since he has no idea where anyone else is.

  • Alan Michael Williams

This comic is crazy long –
    Prologue – 27pp
    Chapter 1 – 61pp
    Interlude I – 16pp
    Chapter 2 – 49pp
    [Unnamed] Bonus comic – 27pp
Chapter 3 – 122pp (<–this chapter is very long and oddly titled Chapter 3-Part 1, not sure what's going on there)
    Truth or Dare – 26pp
    Flyboy Bonus comic – 50pp
    Chapter 4 – 78pp
Interlude II – 3pp so far

It definitely has the feel of pleasant hodgepodge, and sometime in the next chapter, it'll hit 500 pages… Note that it's all under the arc of "Engaging the Enemy," as if beyond this comic, there could be other imagined YP storylines, such as "After We Engaged That Enemy" and "The Next Enemy Engaged"…

Which, given that this is Alex writing, could be awesome.

    Yay! It’s Tuesday.

And I’ve discovered that those golf-like divots in my yard are due to a skunk.

    • Saxon_Brenton

Okay, I’ll play the obvious straight line:
You’ve got skunks playing golf in your yard?

      • davefragments

        Digging for grubs.
I live out in the country on 4 acres (1.6 hectares).

Page 4 hit patreon — start looking for it

  • Awwwww hell. Literally hell. I was right to leave the comic reading for a while. It lasted longer. 😀

    • But now I am at the end after only half an hour. Fudge.

      • davefragments

Few more minutes and page 4 will appear
