The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Interlude 2—Page 1

153 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Interlude 2—Page 1

Hi, Cory. How you feeling, buddy?

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 1: If you haven’t registered to vote and you’re a U.S. citizen, now’s the time!  Click on that square Register to Vote banner down below on the right! This will be an historic election and your vote could literally make a huge difference in the fate of the entire world. It’s going to be close. Don’t sit this one out.

Supposedly half of all folks between the ages of 18-30 say they aren’t going to vote, even though they will likely be most impacted by what happens. But you’re better and smarter than that. You’re going to make a difference. Go click that Register to Vote banner right now and go vote on election day!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 2 (reprise edition): My artists have been working solidly on this comic, delivering twice weekly updates for the last 128 pages (the Flyboy Bonus Comic and Chapter 4). They have now requested a short break, and I think you’ll agree with me that it is well deserved. 🙂

Typically what would happen here is that a webcomic would go on “hiatus.” Maybe that would be a smart thing for me to do (I wouldn’t mind a break either). But I know that this webcomic serves as a special twice-weekly destination for a lot of you, it’s a chance to socialize and hang out with friends in the Comments, and I want to honor that. I wouldn’t be able to make these comics without your support, and you mean the world to me.

So, I wrote a short 6-page “bonus comic” and hired awesome artist Julie Wright (who worked on the Truth or Dare Bonus Comic) so I can keep posting pages on our usual twice-a-week schedule during this gap.

Now my previous bonus comics have very specifically not been “filler.” They were all meant to give character and plot information that’s important for the story. (And sometimes also give me a chance to change tone, e.g. to create some comic relief.) But from the beginning, it had always been my intention to jump from the end of Chapter 4 right into the first page of Chapter 5. I hadn’t intended to create a interlude at this point. So while this 6-page bonus comic does include some interesting character/world information, it’s about as close to filler as I’ll ever get. So with that in mind, if you absolutely can’t handle seeing non-main-story pages, I can tell you now when the main story will resume: Saturday, October 29th.

That said, I think Julie’s done an amazing job with the art. And with these 6 pages, we get to catch up with kick-ass telekinetic Cory, Flyboy’s long-lost friend from the Flyboy Bonus Comic! Enjoy!

So! Cory’s with his brother Diego in the hospital. But who’s this woman? Why is she so focused on Cory’s clothes? And why would Cory refuse food?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Really, Cory, never turn down food.

    • *lol*.. Damn, took one for the team by having to leave the screen xD

  • So so pretty art!

  • davefragments

I’ve taken an instant dislike to Mrs Rogenbauer

    • Saxon_Brenton

She’s certainly drawn in a severe manner. The wider context (from the Flyboy series) suggests she’d be an employee of Mitch’s family. My first reaction is that she’s probably a hardcase but not necessarily hostile to Cory.

      • davefragments

In my life, I knew two women who acted and kind of looked like her… Neither left me with good memories or kind thoughts.

    • Michael

First impressions can be misleading. I get the feeling she cares, at least about Cory if not about Diego, or the situation the two got themselves in, she’s just spent so long acting as a person of authority that she can’t consciously drop it.

      • davefragments

That’s a nice and kind thought. I’m waiting to be proven wrong.

        • Michael

Some people really struggle with expressing their emotions, especially in situations where their concern is warring with their aggravation and annoyance.

So instead of being all lovey flowers and sunshine, she expresses her concern for Cory by making sure his is comfortable and offering to get him some food. All the while being intensely annoyed by his shenanigans and his hanging out with the wrong type of people that got him into this really bad situation. Many parental figures would act the same in that situation, I think.

          • davefragments

Maybe. I’m too tired to think that far…
I had a rough week and I am going to sleep in less than 5 minutes.

          • Michael

Good night! It’s only 3pm here, so I’ll be up for a while longer.

          • davefragments

Look at my posts on the last page of chapter 4 and you;ll understand.

            Have a good night.

  • Michael

<3 Cory time. I still wanna hug him and tell him everything's going to be okay.

    • Kate G

      <3 Cory time.

  • Looking at this, and I SO hope these 6 pages will end with Diego opening his eyes… and not the background view from that window going all scary from the ‘Oh shit, hell arrived’ xD

Though, we know it happens, but I want a Cory smile first.

    • Klaus

Actually we do not know how far the background effects of Laampros’ arrival extends.

  • Hours Left

I just wanted to say thanks to Alex, Adam, Vero, and all the other amazing artists you’ve collaborated with, for consistently providing such an incredible, high quality comic for us all.

I certainly would support a hiatus of the comic in the future, if need be. You all deserve time to rest and recharge. The fact that you’ve lined up this bonus comic to fill in the gaps speaks to just how much you do for your fanbase Alex, and I think that’s wonderful. Thank you.

  • My guess is that Ms. Roggenbauer is one of those people who seems strict, but has a heart of gold, and she’s the caregiver Mitch’s family sent for him, along with this Phillip person who can be everything from guard to driver – or both.

Mitch’s family has clearly been a help already with new clothes and care. From what we (I) could gather from Mitch’s bonus story, his family rocks and are highly supportive, caring, not to mention rich enough to make things happen.
Cory is in good hands, and I doubt they’d intentionally send someone for Cory who isn’t caring, despite her ways not being all loving.

I could be wrong, but hope not.

    • Sunseahl Silverfall

She’s secretly Missus Mcgonagall from Harry Potter

    • bronakopdin

Maybe Philip is what Gerard is to Elan x3

  • kuku

Aw, so good to see you again, Cory. Hang in there, sweetie-pie.

  • I wonder if he is on one of those beds that have those shifting air pockets. I personally don’t like them and did not get any sleep on them.

  • Jeldenil

Ways to tell if a boy likes you: he sends you a strict mother-guard

  • LOL … Ms. Roggenbauer gives me the feeling of Ms. Rottenmeier from Heidi … (^_~) …

  • Ooh, I like this. We get a catch-up on Cory, and a little more implied about Mitch’s background.

  • Kate G

Yay! We get to catch up with Ro—Cory and his brother. Master Cory? Who is this Ms. Roggenbauer and why is she calling him MASTER Cory? Is she the female Alfred?

Roggenbauer is a German name. “Roggen” is “rye” and “bauer” is “farmer” (technically, German is one of those languages where words change when you smash them together), but these come together so nicely that “rye farmer” actually goes. I love seeing how last names come together. HA HA. Her ancestry is rye farming.

In horse news…the Special Olympics are two weeks away now and I STILL don’t have the turn on the haunches down. Actually, I just learned it Wednesday. Yes, Wednesday. And, because I have my lovely Autism to contend with, do you think I learned it in the first lesson? No. And there was my couch all, “LEAN BACK. No, no, NO, he’s not supposed to bend!”

Uh, dude, did you think I’m going to learn it if you just show it to me once? NO. Sometimes you have to get handsy and put your hands on my hands and show me where they go; show me the kind of pressure I need. I ain’t gonna learn by osmosis. You can yell all you want; I don’t learn that way.

Trials and aggravations. Trials and aggravations y’all.

    • Sanbai

Hee hee hee, I like you Kate!

      • Kate G

        I can’t help it. I’m just lovable.

    • Klaus

Female Alfred is a good description. “Master” shows that while she does need to show him respect, she does not consider him an adult.

      • Kate G

Alfred was always one of my favorite butlers. 🙂

        • Columbine

I saw a great fanfic once where Alfred got the eternal love of a butlering convention by telling them stories of Bruce’s attempts to use the kitchen.

          • Kate G

HA HA HA HA HA HA. That would make a great fanfic. I bet all of the boys and girls can cook to varying degrees of edible.

  • Sanbai

This art style is so…kawaaiiii..!! ;D

  • Klaus

I really like the way Ms. Roggenbauer is portrayed. She is here to help Cory, and she treats him very repectfully. She still manages to treat him like a naughty child. She does not say: “Don’t fidget with your shirt,” but there is no doubt at all that that is what she means. Is asking if he needs food another example of treating him as like child, or genuine concern? It absolutely can be both.

    • Well, Cory is a teenage boy and they do sometimes seem to have two hollow legs….unless they are on meds that suppress their appetite. Though I think some teenage girls also go through the hollow legs phase, my younger sister did. It was so annoying, she would eat enough for 4 people and not gain an ounce. -_-

      • Columbine

I once ate a kilo of prawns in a single sitting during my early teenage years. With rice and vegetables. I’m only about 50kg, I must have been less at the time.

  • Pikinanou

Awesome page, yay for more Mitch related story 😀
and happy vacations for the artists! you deserve it!

  • purplefoxglove

Love the art style – it makes Cory look extra huggable ^_^ I’m missing glimpses of Spooky in his undies, though.

I wanted to say something nice and thoughtful about how amazing Adam and Vero are, that I hope they have a great holiday, and how I think Alex should really, really make sure to take a break, too, because he sure deserves one, too, but everybody has already said so much (and in a much better fashion than I would manage) about this that I’ll leave it at: you guys rock! Enjoy your time off 🙂

  • krissdevalnor

Great page 🙂 I totally disagree on the voting part though. The entire system is flawed. You cant fix the ring itself, just by choosing new ringleader. That being said – I really like that you are not choosing sides in the post, but just trying to get people to vote for the candidate they like 🙂

    • JozefAL

And, kriss, exactly how do you “fix the ring” by doing NOTHING?

See, if you don’t vote, you have NO say in anything.

    • means are the ends

A very common tactic of Republicans is to discourage people from voting. This always works to their advantage, since the general population leans Democratic but with lower voter turnout. However, registered Republicans vote in much higher percentages than the general population. Many people are paid during election season to spam the internet with messages to not vote, and this message has been consistent through many decades of my life.

Republicans know that voting the entire ticket greatly impacts their lives, both locally and on a national and international level. They never miss a chance to vote.

      Neither should you.

VOTE as if your life depends on it, because it does!

      • Columbine

During the last election in my current country I remember, in a sea of different banners asking to vote for one of four major parties, the lone black and white sign that just said ‘VOTE’

        • Kate G

That’s a beautiful sign to sea, especially in a sea of signs for different people. Ours tend to colorblocked: red on top, blue on the bottom and the white relief says, “Vote.” Those are the ones that give me a reprieve from all of the slogans for, “Trump/Pence” “Clinton/Kain” and ALL of the local ones! Voting does make a difference. The more people who have something to say, the more they can take out one person. Even just writing in a name can bring in traction.

  • Cool! Love bonus side stories 🙂 Your artists deserve a break…they do a great job for us.

  • Ian Corral

Sorry to say but voting this time makes no difference. It’s bad and worse.

    • JozefAL

If you really think that, then enjoy living under “worse.”

I’m only sorry that you’re an idiot.

      • Ian Corral

I’m sorry, but between the two candidates there just doesn’t seem to be a “good” choice. It’s more like your flavor of punishment. Then again, democracy isn’t a perfect system and it shows this time.

      • Hi JozefAL,
While your opinion is valid, please refrain from using personal bad names towards another commenter. It is not accepted in these comments. This time around I will edit it out of your comment. If it happens again after this reply, your comment will be deleted.

Dokidokibaka has already posted the community guidence for you. Please read it. Thank you.

    • Klaus

If it really is bad and worse, there is a clear difference.

      • Ian Corral

Well not exactly, the worse is depending on who you ask.

    • Draymorden

Last I checked there are more than two political parties running in the US. While they aren’t “the big two,” if you are dissatisfied with the big two so much, vote for someone else. Greens, libertarians. Not voting will change nothing. Changing their expectations with how you vote could change something, even if it doesn’t make anything “better.” You country would do well to move away from their two party system.

      • Ian Corral

Voting for the other candidates won’t change anything either.

        • Draymorden

Incorrect. A decrease in votes that a party usually gets tells them they are not identifying with their constituents any more. That their policies are not desired by people. Voting in a differenr direction Not voting tells them nothing.

          • Ian Corral

Unfortunately that probably won’t apply here. People don’t vote for the other parties because they know they won’t win.

          • Draymorden

It won’t apply if people don’t vote. The more that abstain, the less change you will see. Voting for a party that won’t win isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When the voting is over (the rest of the world is quite tired of your election at this point. It has been going on for over a year!) Tallies will be made.

What does it tell the two parties if the US population had a sudden surge of third party voting? It tells them that their current nominees are inadequate. That the policies they are driving are not lining up with what the country thinks or wants.
Number of votes is directly proportional to power. The less votes the Democrats or the Republicans get, the stronger the message is that the Amercan populace is dissatisfied with them.

Not voting tells them that the American populace just doesn’t care what they do. The more people that don’t vote, the more disingenuous they get to be – because why shouldn’t they if no one else cares?

Tell everyone to vote. Tell them that a not voting is failing to hold aloft the ideals of America and that they are less American if they are just going to roll over and take it from their political parties (Nothing riles up americans more than casting doubt their superiority/Americanism).

          • Ian Corral

Except the ideals of America are long gone, especially with the implementation of a flawed system like democracy.

I say voting doesn’t matter because it doesn’t matter who is president. It changes nothing. It’s more of a formality. The country is still going to run more or less the same.

Plus I have seen the others, the country is still doomed.

          • Draymorden

American ideals are only gone if you give up on them – which is what not voting is doing.

Every system has flaws. Work on improving it. Canada is changing our voting system right now. Flaws can be overcome. If you want to overcome them.

As an American, you might not think that the person who is president doesn’t matter but it does. The president is the person who represents you as a nation. They are the one all other countries deal with and see as what America is. Who you have for president matters. It matters a lot if you look beyond your own boarders (which I think tends to be a failing of many americans).

The others won’t make it but the story of what that vote means will speak louder than a no vote ever will.

          • Adam Black

“Except the ideals of America are long gone, especially with the implementation of a flawed system like democracy”

What American Ideals are “long gone” . None of this makes any sense. the USA and its original colonies and towns, all started as democracies.

          • Klaus

A self fulfilling prophecy if ever I saw one.

    • I think a lot of folks are forgetting that there is a lot of state level voting that is going to matter. Much of the congress is up for re-election. That’s where the power is. Change congress. Change those who do nothing. Plus there are local and state laws/ordinances on the ballot as well that make a difference too.

Also think of what could have been accomplished if people had come out for the mid-term 2010/2014 elections instead of sitting it out. The democrats could have remained/regained the majority. It’s the same now. Voting does matter.

And as a woman, I’m sorry, but I’m going exercise my right to vote whether is makes a difference or not because women were jailed and beaten and killed for that right. I’m not going to squander it because I may or may not like who or what is on the ticket.

  • Fabulous Alien

I’m getting a serious Professor McGonnagall vibe from Ms Roggenbauer (ugh, try saying those two names together three times in a row…).

    • Pietro7

That’s it! I was trying to figure out who she reminded me of. Definitely a Professor McGonnigle vibe. Thank you.

    • Juliette Leroux

      Yeah, this.

  • bronakopdin

Being German I always have to laugh so hard when I see German names appear in foreign media x’D
either they’re villains or totally serious types ^^
I love it either way, nice to meet you Ms. Roggenbauer!

On another note I like Cory in formal wear x3

    • Columbine

As a (mostly) Brit I’ve found I love it when Germans are on British radio stations- much as we find the stereotypes funny you guys all seem to have a great sense of humour.

      • bronakopdin

        thanks 😀
Normally I hear Germans are too stiff so it’s nice to hear the opposite for once 🙂

        • Columbine

I particularly remember a German guy talking about the EU vote, just before it happened. He was hilarious. I wish I could remember his name but I’ve not heard him on anything since. They said he ran a large German-language magazine here.

I also appreciate your niche sci fi. Space Patrol Orion is ace.

  • Jason Moon

Roggenbauer? Well, it could have been something like Hassleblad or Kiscolon(I just realized that used two names from one game of CALLAHAN’S CROSSTIME SALOON. It’s really good game that captures the spirit of what it’s based on, but it’s really OLD)

  • Columbine

Really adore the line art and colouring in this. To me it feels more expressive than the regular artists. Though I think I’d have to go through a lot of pages to get a fairer sort of pros and cons to both sets of styles.

Interesting to see what Cory’s relationship is with Roggenbauer. I’m getting the impression they met a lot before, probably when Cory was going to see Flyboy regularly.

    • bronakopdin

I think this is rather more anime style while Adam has a more western/realistic approach 🙂

      • Columbine

See…I’m not sure I’d call his faces realistic? Western yes but I find something slightly off about the facial portions normally. I’m not sure exactly what it is. I’d have to go back through a load of pages to try and figure it out. But I’ve got a new prescription in my glasses and I’m not used to it yet. I think the page set up and clothes are better usually. But I prefer the faces here.

        • bronakopdin

well to begin with, I never said “realistic-realistic” but “more realistic” which was in comparison to the anime-like style ^^’
absolutely realistic art is seldom if you ask and as never intended to say here by me.
also your original comment included sth about the art that you seem to have edited out now and I don’t remember what it was, either way I was answering to that, making out a difference. I never intended to say anything about how “realistic” any of their styles are or sth

          • Poppyjaz

Just my unimportant observation on the comics at hand; I think the most obvious style differences that are in the regular comic, is the outer line work is often incorporated into the inner detail to enhance shading, and the colouring used tends to use blocks of colour in the same family, but not necessarily the same shade. So this tends to create a vibrant sharp look that pops. The spin-off artist relies completely on colours for her shading and keeps them in a realistic spectrum to compliment the original colour. So the overall effect is softer, some might say more realistic. I personally love both styles, and appreciate the talent Alex has found to create his comic, but my favourite (for the most part maybe because it’s the bulk of the comic) is the main arc. But will definitely be enjoying this little spin off also.

          • bronakopdin

I never considered the colouring and shading in this discussion before but you might be right that this is indeed an important fact I dismissed until now!
But I agree either way, that both artists do awesome work and I said before that I like them both, too 😀
Just lie you I tend to prefer Adam’s art though over Julie’s ^^

          • Poppyjaz

Yes I do, but what’s funny is in my own comic, it’s more Julie’s style..Lol. And i think the preference comes because I’m so used to seeing Adam’s art work. But will happily enjoy Julie’s lovely work on the meantime. 🙂

  • I think if Ms. R was really bad and scary, that Cory would be stuttering more. I’m just going to wait and see. 🙂

  • davefragments

    I keep reading Roggenbauer as Booger-rauen …
I wonder if I need new eyeglasses or if I’m really that biased against her? I’ll blame the eyeglasses.

    • Klaus

I keep reading it as Rottweiler

  • I can’t vote yet, and I will at the age that I can. But I’d also like to mention that depending on where you live, your vote could matter but it also couldn’t. For example, if you live in New York like me, it doesn’t matter very much. New York is known to be democrat and will therefore almost definitely vote so. The electoral college is pretty broken. I mean, if the voting ran like it did for most political officials it’d be great, every vote would count. But sadly, it runs on the electoral college system, making many places voting practically useless.

    • Klaus

There will be many elections on the day, federal, state, and local. In some places there will also be referendums.

  • Chris Dangerfield

Julie does a lovely job here at making us feel the pathos of Cory dealing with the potentially dire health of his older brother. I like the craziness of the fact that the older brother did this to himself. That his older brother was thoughtlessly using Cory in a burglary…. Yet still Cory loves his bro. He’s there in the hospital because he loves him and can’t help it. Family is so complicated. It’s nutty, but it makes me love Cory even more.

Thanks Alex and Julie for this treat! We are definitely spoiled.

    • Klaus

Diego is not just his brother. He has been acting as a parent for a couple of years. And he has done a good job. He has kept Cory away from drugs, and from prostitution.

      • Adam Black

Diego almost got them all killed. Hes not Parent of the year.

        • Pietro7

No, he’s not – but he is trying to be, in his incompetent way. Trying counts for something – when you are a sibling it can count for an _awful_ lot. 🙁

          • Adam Black

He would have been better Pimping his brother on the street as a magician/ Busker. They could have used his PK as an act. Levitating Bike rides for KIds E.T. style.

There were a lot of better ways to exploit his talents than rob the Mob safe.

          • Pietro7

Yup – which is why Diego is incompetent as a parent, or for that matter incompetent to run his own life. 🙂

          • Klaus

We know so little of this world. Maybe attracting the attention of Exec is a very bad thing. Or maybe Diego thinks it would be.

Even if, as may well be the case, Exec would do what they think is best for Cory, that could mean keeping Diego away from him. Which neither Diego nor Cory would want.

          • Adam Black

even PK Pickpocketing would have been better

        • Klaus

Right, but my point was that emotionally, Diego and Cory are closer even than most brothers.

    • Adam Black

      I’m bullshit at Diego.

  • Adam Black

    My reaction;

“whats this?” first thinking I went to an older page

“Holy Crap , a new page”

“Howd did I miss YP ?”

O yeah you went out for once.

  • T Dibbler

Thanks for the bonus storyline while the artists take their well-deserved break. 🙂

  • Juliette Leroux

Is it bad to think Cory is cute in this suit?

    • Adam Black

@julietteleroux:disqus if you wish a scientific answer , you must have a control sample to compare it against.

You are now thinking of Cory Naked. Give us the data of your response, so we can cross correlate

      • As Cory is fifteen, I hope only those of an age with him would think of him naked.

        • Juliette Leroux

Oh man I am definitely out of league then. So I will not.

          • Adam Black

Adam draws Mitch and Cory like they are 19 , @julietteleroux:disqus
no Yaoi Court will convict you for thinking of that.

        • I’m 16, am I qualified? lol

        • Adam Black

          You mean Flyboy?

          • Nope. I mean Cory, who is 15. Although Flyboy is also 15.

    • Cory is quite adorable in his suit.

    • Ruben

      Thought crimes don’t count 🙂

  • Nate

A few things caught my eye:

    1) The details in panel 1. I’ve seen enough hospital rooms in the past year (visiting sick relatives) to recognize the accuracy.

    2) As a Catholic school kid, I recognize that knot in Cory’s tie: tight enough to look fairly decent, loose enough not to choke. 😉

    3) And doesn’t Cory look cute fiddling with it? *cuddle*

    4) Someone below asked if Ms. R. was being condescending asking if he wanted something to eat. I doubt it. My guess is that he’s been sitting there all day, and she’s actually WORRIED.

Bravo, guys. This page may be light on plot, but it’s heavy on character.

  • Vaira

For me it was totally obvious that she’s either a bodyguard from Flyboy’s family or a police agent protecting key witness.

So either this and it’s obvious, or I’m not that good at picking obvious things 😉

    • Klaus

Interesting idea. I had not considered either possibilty.

    • Juliette Leroux

      Interresting idea, I like it!

Definitely an official of some kind. Maybe a butler(is the feminine version the same? Butleress?) Definitely an aide from the family.

Looking forward to see more of these cuties!

      • As far as I know there is not a feminine form of Butler as they had very specific duties and were predominately male and in charge of the male servants, though there were very few women who made it into this profession, they were always referred to as a butler. The counterpart to the butler was the Housekeeper who also had very set duties predominately female (I have never heard of a male housekeeper, at least I don’t remember hearing of one) and in charge of the female staff.

I didn’t think so. I like her though, she seems badass. 😀

    okay first of all:
citizens of the U.S, listen to IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 1 since it is very important!! I’m not from the U.S but…. I think everybody knows what’s happening there, since the U.S will always let the rest of the world know. But seriously… voting is very important! (shit we too have an election soon with a super stupid dude and we are all horrified that he will win….) give your country your voice!

And you artist dudes are amazing!!! Enjoy your break! You deserve it!!
And thank you for giving us a bonus comic, I love your bonus comics.

Now to Ms Roggenbauer hahahahaha that name is really good!
Ms rye farmer…. she even looks like a rye farmer (because she looks so serious)

    • Juliette Leroux

Oh well, when I read this, I instantly thought “is he from my country also?” and then realised that, sadly, we are too many to have an election coming with a “super stupid” and dangerous dude (or lady in my case). Let’s get united against the stupid!

      • somebody

haha no sorry, I have the choice beween a kinda normal guy who is old but kinda okay and a guy who is the puppet of a guy who is…… well you could say a neo-nazi but saying this would be illegal so I’m not going to say it
But yes, the numbers of elections with stupid and dangerous dudes is remarkably high.

        • Juliette Leroux

And now I think I know where you live 🙂 I’ve actually been following the different elections in the EU lastly. Well, I send you all my positive vibes!

          • somebody

UUhhhh place your bet and tell me (It’s really embarrassing that our politics makes it out of our country, normally we don’t make it into the world wide news)

          • Juliette Leroux

            Austria is my guess.

          • somebody

            yes~ 😀
            you are good!!

          • Juliette Leroux

            :p

          • Juliette Leroux

And congratulations for not having the scary guy!

          • somebody

hahahaha thank you! I made my vote and was really really happy when I heard how it turned out~

          • somebody

When are the elections in france?
I guess it’s my turn to send you all my positive vibes 🙂

          • Juliette Leroux

May 2017. And thanks, we’ll need all the good vibes!

          • somebody

We will probably hear about it in the news beforehand, I will think about you when the time has come

    • Ruben

So do we vote for the clown or the witch?

      • Juliette Leroux

Ok, not my country not my circus I guess, but don’t usually clowns seem less dangerous than this one? (or were you talking about the ones scaring people in the streets these last days?)

        • Ruben

I am obviously talking about the the lack of real presidential candidates. Something that is not unique to the usa. It seems like democracy isn’t something that actually exists any more other than as a facade.

          • Shadizar Silvermask

The US isn’t a democracy, it’s a Representative Republic hence elections to appoint people who in theory are there to act on the wishes and desires of those that voted them in.

California though does have a democratic option when it comes to voting on laws though, Arnold overused it when trying to deal with his state’s heel-dragging politicians.

      • somebody

I seriously don’t get the American voting system….
is there really no third option? I mean…. Trump or Clinton that’s just….. cruel

        • Not one that has a chance of winning

          • somebody

            :/
I am really sorry for you guys….. wouldn’t wanna change positions.

        • Shadizar Silvermask

The two main political parties early on gamed the system to make it virtually impossible for anyone but one of their candidates to have any chance of winning. The closest we ever came to breaking that was with Ross Perot but he was either intentionally trolling the public given how he melted down after looking like he had a good chance of winning or really had mental issues (perhaps dementia from his age) that destroyed his chance of winning due to his bizarre behavior.

          • And then the two parties gamed it further to keep that from happening again.

          • Shadizar Silvermask

Sadly so, all while the public lets it keep happening. A public that complains about the problem but when push comes to shove always goes with those ‘evil career politicians’ rather than vote for someone who’d actually be better than one of those politicians.

    • Galopa WXY

Yeah, same here in France with a twist: it’s a super dangerous madam.
But her opponents are all stupid and we’ll still need to pick one x_x I
hate politics so much these days…

      • Juliette Leroux

We share the same dangerous madam, Galopa…

      • somebody

that sucks dude :/ but better stupid than dangerous? I guess….
Strangely we don’t here much about France politics here… or I am too busy to read the paper… not sure wich

  • Hello Campers!!

    • Saxon_Brenton

      Greetings.

      • How is your Wednesday afternoon?

        • Saxon_Brenton

Lovely weather. Work is under control. My feet are sore. Pretty good overall.
          How is it with you?

          • I got my website updated, made some cover art. Trying not to feel old because I threw out my lower back helping my senior dog maneuver about.

  • davefragments

I thought I’d never make it to camping tonight.
    How’s it going?

    • Saxon_Brenton

Are you still having trouble wrangling painters?

      • davefragments

Yes, tomorrow they have all the house to put back together and paint the garage. I screamed at the boss today for being rude and dismissive.

  • davefragments

Pencils just popped up in my email

    • Saxon_Brenton

Alas, a rush inter-library loan scan request has just arrived. I shall not be available for hunting virgins.
