The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Truth or Dare—Page 6

271 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Truth or Dare—Page 6

I’m with Fluke: woah! Could anyone else get away with asking Commander that?

I’m going to be at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival this weekend and due to some exceptional circumstances, I will have some advance copies of The Young Protectors Volume One for sale. This Con takes place in the Toronto Reference Library this Saturday and Sunday and is completely free to attend. I’ll be on the second floor at table 222 with Steve MacIsaac. It’d be great to see some friendly faces, so if you’re in the neighborhood, please stop by! 🙂

On Friday, I added two new Milestone Goals, featuring a brand new Full Monty painting of Tsunami by artist Marccus!

AMW_Comics_TYP-ETE-PATREON-Tsunami-Marccus-Pinup-Headshot_800

If we hit $8000/month, $5+/month Patrons will get to download a wallpaper revealing his whole body in all its muscular, tattooed Full Monty glory and if we hit $8250/month, I’ll post up a link to another wallpaper which adds a beautiful background to show the context of why the big guy is naked (and, trust me, it really is quite pretty and adds a lot to the painting.) And if we hit those Milestone Goals, $10+ Patrons will get sent high-res versions of both images once their payments are processed at the end of the month.

Marccus has done a beautiful job rendering our grumpy, but oh so sexy water bender. You definitely won’t want to miss it!

Also, when the Patrons hit $7500/month in Patreon support, they unlocked a sexy, new wallpaper pin-up — a World Spanning Wallpaper! Using the first voting link I sent, they were able to choose the first half of a sexy pairing from the major (and a few of the minor) characters from any of my comics and they chose Kyle, the hero of The Young Protectors!

Now the vote for the second half of the pairing is underway and it’s a battle to the death between Deacon with 114 votes and Spooky Jones with 107 votes. Who will Kyle be paired with? I don’t know, but Patrons are now also getting to vote on how explicit they want the pairing to be, with “Full Monty” level currently winning with over 80% of the vote!

Want to help determine who Kyle gets all Fully Monty with (and get to enjoy the results)? Voting is open until Friday, May 8th at 11:45 PM PST and new Patrons get to vote! 🙂

If you become a Patron now and choose to receive the Special Digital Rewards, you will be able to download wallpaper versions of the Full Monty Annihilator Pin-Ups, the Full Monty Spooky Romance Card Pin-Up as well the Sexy Height Chart which shows the male members of the team. You’ll also be able enjoy all the other rewards so far posted, including the “How Spooky Got His Cap” and “What Is It Like To Kiss Spooky?” short stories that folks have liked so much. This is in addition to special back-stage access to script pages, thumbnail pages and penciled pages for all new updates. And, of course, Patrons who chose to get the Special Digital Rewards (which is the vast majority) continue to receive Digital Kickstarter Rewards every Wednesday and get to see special Sneak Previews on Sunday.

Over 1050 of you have already become Patrons in the last few months. There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron, and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits!),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron. 🙂

So! Spooky just asked Commander a provocative question. Will she answer it? And if she does, who will she say she’s thought about “sexually”?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 🙂

  • Of course it was about sex, and only Spooky can make it a logic option xD

    • davefragments

Damn are you fast with that comment!

      • I have the V? On my computer you have it, and I even refreshed after posting o.O Well then.. YAY! ^_^
Maybe my disqus hasn’t caught up yet because there was 2 or 3 new posts showing at the same time as I posted, so we all posted within a few seconds.

        • davefragments

I saw your post go up before I hit the “post as” button. Then I posted. Disqus took three reloads to get it right after that. I think Disqus has political nervous breakdowns from other websites.

        • Madock345

You’ve got it on mine too, congrats!

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Congrats!!!

      • Thank you! It does help a little here on a sleepless morning, and knowing good friends are having a blast in Japan -without getting me smuggled along in a huge suitcase.

  • davefragments

    Spooky is in trouble

  • Chris Dangerfield

Spooky is a stinker after my own heart. xoxoxoxoxo

  • Well, we’re waiting!

  • DC

    Good one Spooky

  • I love the look on Mitch’s face in panel four. It’s like a little puppy hearing a new noise. Herrrrr.

  • Madock345

I’m in love with first and second panel Spooky. And somewhat terrified of fifth panel Commander.

  • I love the panel six blush on Commander’s face…

  • Michael

Poor old Gordon. Everyone else is like “woah, did he really ask that?” and he’s just like “I bet she won’t say me”. 🙁

    • Madock345

And Mitch looks like he just zoned out for a minute and is trying to figure out what everyone is surprised about.

  • SofiaT

    Hm.
So Spooky is good and done with the questions after just saying that he gets easily cold after coming back from Hell, and so is Kyle, after only saying he doesn’t mind sharing a bed with Spooky (and borderline lying about the “brotherly” feelings involved) but Commander has to directly answer THIS or she may not survive the night?

    Hm, again.

    • Spooky doesn’t like to talk about anything hell-related, even thought he’s (behaving) all casual about it here, and Kyle would do anything he can to not reveal he’s gay.
Luckily for those two, their questions turned out less direct where as Spooky goes right to the point and much more specific.

      • Madock345

Wasn’t there a thing where they’d all forget what happened when the curse expired? That might explain why spooky is more relaxed than the others, he knows they won’t remember, and the rest of them haven’t grasped that so much.

      • SofiaT

Spooky is not supposed to know that Kyle is gay and therefore that the previous line of questioning was hard for him -not to mention the fact that Kyle’s truthfulness left much to be desired. Also, Spooky’s response about feeling cold since he came back from Hell didn’t delve into his time at all, it was only indirectly hell-related.

This whole exchange has been very unequal so far.

        • You’re right, they don’t know about Kyle. I think hints suggest that Amanda and Spooky have suspicions, but I think what Amanda did react on was Kyle’s obvious discomfort about the topic, and how it was close to making him break the rules. Better get it stopped, and she did – for both Kyle and Spooky (we saw how protective she was about Spooky getting asked anything hell-related).
I agre that they seem to have gotten of easy compared to her, but she chose truth with Spooky and there was no one to break in here.
Spooky being Spooky, and his reasoning for the question(with a compliment inserted), it was pretty much given that it would be a direct question. Sexual or not, the question would have been very direct.

          • SofiaT

Amanda broke the previous line of questioning because it got away from the purpose of the game and entered teasing territory, increasing the possibility of the rules being broken -and possibly because she could “read” Kyle’s discomfort, even if she wasn’t trying to read his mind.

But Amanda isn’t the rule-keeper of the game, Spooky is.
And he let both himself and Kyle off the hook way too easily in comparison to Amanda. So this “it has to be this question or you won’t make it” reasoning is laying it on thick. In short, I call bullshit.

          • Actually, I’d say Amanda got them ‘off the hook’ here, as she stopped it. Even if Spooky doesn’t think they have to start over, the rules of curse was still followed. One asked questions and another answered.

And the rules came from the Veritas curse and not Spooky, it’s only his expertise that is asked. I still say Spooky asks Amanda something he knows won’t hurt her badly to reveal, even for the night. Heck, I’ve basically been asked the same question in TOD (not about team, obviously, but about a specific group of boys).

But I don’t think we’ll agree here so I step out of this debate now.

          • kamishiro

I like to think in grade evaluation form.
            The minimum grade is 5.
Kyle and Spooky got a 7 or 8 so they are okay. Above the medium and it’s a good grade so they are cured. But in Amanda case’s Spooky wants her to get a 10, just to be sure. So he made a very direct question. That’s my guess.

          • Adam Black

I thought she broke the line of questioning ( with paul ) because every single unnecessary question was risking their lives. It wasnt even Pauls turn.

Paul was basically joking around with a loaded gun, and he was using it out of turn.

I think She could break thatline of questioning because IT was already improper, and not his turn.

BUT She cant break the line of questioning after she accepts truth inside the game, and spooky asks her a question.

Thats the game and the curse itself.
            Shes now in it.

I think spooky is telling the truth, She does have to answer it, ( now ) but that’s only true because Spooky made it true by asking it , and She confirmed it was true, by trying to not answer the question.

Her saying : ‘No’ made it be the question she must answer. ( which is spooky’s fault )

They set up truth or dare to resolve the curse.
When Amanda stopped Paul, she was actually enforcing the agreed upon rules of the game.,

( he was out of turn and being careless )

I agree with you Spooky is laying it on thick.

His job is NOT to pick a question she wont answer, that could get her killed.

His job is to aim for the sweet spot: something she doesnt wasnt to reveal, yet wont lie about and will reveal.
and avoid something she that she might accidentally or even habitually conceal and this get her killed.

This might be the first case of Sexual-harassment russian roulette.

  • Tsunami has the most sour expression on his face….I think he needs some tension release of some sort.

    • Mary Klemzak

      I volunteer!!

  • Terri Sutton

Questions, question. Can’t answer Spooky (might get cocky), or Fluke (definitely will get cocky), or Tsunami (is humourless), or Flyboy (extremely inappropriate). Who’s left?

    • Madock345

      “Myself” XD

    • David Welbourn

I see no reason she has to limit her sexual thinking about to just one guy. She might have thought about any or all of them in various combinations and at different times. It’s also possible she’s not interested in any of them that way. We’ll just have to wait to see what she says.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Hmm, so Spooky has to hit Commander with both a piece of logic (the question has to be about something she doens’t want the others to know), and then he butters her up with a compliment (even if it’s stating the flat-out obvious). Interesting.

  • jreed3842

Can’t argue with Spooky’s logic there!

  • I’m trying to decide: Which of Spooky’s expresions in panel 1-3 is the cutest?

I think panel 1 wins if for me by a hair. That innocent ‘trust me’ smile is so tricksy xD

    • I think I like panel 4

      • Well suuure, just go with one I didn’t pick as possible cutest LOL

        • Ha! Well that big smile, it’s just so adorbs

          • It is. Damn, no! Don’t have me switch between more than the first three panels. Gaah.

Spooky’s just looks cute. I’ll go with that <3

          • I think that’s the best answer!

    • jreed3842

Panel 1 wins for me by a long shot. Super cute and 100% adorable!

    • Madock345

Panels 3 and 4 aren’t doing it for me, but one and two are. I think two is a bit better.

      • Yeah, I’m flipping between panel 1 &2, but that almost goofy smile.. I just can’t stop smiling back.

        • Madock345

          “Almost” goofy?

      • Terri Sutton

        Definitely 2.

    • All the panels!

  • Toli Bera

Hmm, next round should be Gordon, and he has to play a round of Seducical Chairs. ((Imagine the kids B-day game, but with more lap dances.))

    • Mary Klemzak

Oh I’m so up with that!!!

      • Toli Bera

and he wouldn’t be and that’s the point of the curse it seems. XD

        • Madock345

I want this to end with Spooky admitting that there’s no such thing as a Veritas curse and he was just fucking with all of them.

          • Mary Klemzak

            What?! No! Why?! No.

          • Madock345

Because it would be hilarious XD

        • Mary Klemzak

A curse that makes Tsunami/Gordon grumpy?

          • Toli Bera

that’d be like a curse that makes water wet.

          • Mary Klemzak

Sounds like a challenge! *rubs hands together in anticipation*

        • timemonkey

The point of the curse is to share secrets you don’t want to share or die. The dares are just part of the game they decided to use to break the curse.

  • Precious

PleasesayTsunamipleasesayTsunami.. O_O Pretend that no one heard that >.>

    • Klaus

Tsunami is shocked. What if he gets asked the same question?

      • David Welbourn

He won’t be. Spooky logic worked this once, but it won’t apply to the others. Also, it’ll be Commander’s turn to pose a truth or dare next, and she certainly won’t ask the same question. And I suspect by the time that person has answered Amanda’s challenge, everyone will probably be thinking of other things.

  • Chris Dangerfield

Obviously I disagree with some of our commenters. There is NO inequality here. In fact if anything there is a great deal of concern “WHOA” for our Lady Commander’s dignity.

    • Spooky would never harm Amanda, even if he tries his best to put a puckish playful face on whenever he can. It’s clear that she trusts him more than anyone else, and for good reason.

    • Yes Spooky DID indeed pay his veritas dues. Hell for him was a year so bad that it shaped his entire post-hell PTSD personality. He had no name, no memory. The experiences that made Hell for him count as the most painful things in his universe… even to discuss them, in what seem mild terms, is too painful, or they would all know this already (even if he makes an effort to be playful because he’s strong enough to do so).

Of all people Amanda would understand what it means for him to talk about being cold and what those memories that might bring him back to. So ‘being cold’ is NOT a small thing for him. It’s a painful piece of who he is and he just shared it, and if he did it and also helped his scared young friend (Kyle) out of a frightening jam. That just speaks further to what a truly decent human he is. Yep, he more than met the terms of the curse IMHO.

I think it’s more than clear that Spooky and Amanda know about Kyle’s orientation and because they are decent people they support him until he’s strong enough to trust them and talk about it himself. It’s the decent thing to do.

    • And Kyle just spent 3 pages under the “In-The-Closet” microscope of his friends (Paul as a tease and Mitch because he was way too fascinated) and the only thing that helped him through it was Spooky’s support and love and finally Amanda’s putting the brakes on. Trust me, when one is in the closet, it may not be logical, but it’s your most terrifying secret. It was for me. And, when one is IN that closet, because you don’t yet know how to get yourself out, you are constantly waiting for the secret to be explosively revealed and everyone to put you aside (and I mean EVERYONE).

I joked on a previous page about my Great Aunt ritually interrogating me about my ‘missing’ girl friends at various Thanksgivings. All jokes aside, it was terrifying. When I grew up as a teen and the word “ABOMINATION” was casually used to describe what you fear you may be and the term “gay” meant everything “lame”… then that sort of discussion IS your most feared issue.

I was NOT joking when I said, “Where was my Spooky-defender during that time.” Oh how I wish. So, IMHO, there was no subject more terrifying for Kyle than the one they spent three pages on. He more than paid his Veritas dues.

So I hardly think Spooky (Amanda’s most trusted friend) saying he feels he has to ask a sex question is comparatively very challenging considering who THE COMMANDER is… particularly compared to a young confused closeted man such as Kyle, or even a recovering hell-victim like Spooky.

I’ve been told that some women actually do choose to have sex, and some even reportedly enjoy it. Thus, I suspect someone as strong as Amanda will find her way to gracious answer that doesn’t end her world or impinge upon her dignity. Unfortunately she is not immune to the curse by virtue of being female.

Still, it only requires her to be honest, clearly about a subject she’d rather not discuss. That said, I’d be shocked if she found it harder to discuss something generally sex-related than it was to discuss something hell related or being in the closet.

Spooky wouldn’t ask anything he didn’t HAVE too and will undoubtedly do whatever he can to make things easier for her. It’s clearly not only more than ‘fair’ if that has any relation to a magic curse, but it’s obviously not going to be harmful to her.

    • Terri Sutton

“I’ve been told that some women actually do choose to have sex, and some even reportedly enjoy it.”

I believe that is the entire plot of “Sex In The City”, but then again I have never watched so it so that constantly engaging in sex, enjoying sex and quite happily talking about sex may have been overblown.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Thank you. Excellent example. Regardless, of the vagaries of fiction, even a humble male such as myself has heard of that medial marvel — S.I.T.C. That veritable documentary of the female interest in the arts of love. Thus, that you, a verified human person with a female looking avatar can support the truth of my observations (and we all know TV never lies) and my honest contention that a significant portion of the female species is also interested in sex is of great help. I thank you! 🙂

        • Terri Sutton

I don’t know whether I should laugh at or be thoroughly annoyed at the whole; “we can’t talk about sex with women, they are so utterly delicate, they might faint and hurt themselves” concept. Is so Victorian.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Oh yes please, you should laugh… well that’s why I am being just a giant smidge over-the-top with the whole tone. I mean The Commander is not the daintiest character to begin with, which makes the whole subject much funnier — at least to me. And, IRL, all my female friends are MUCH more “out and about, frank” about the subject of sex than 99% of the men I know. So yes, it’s fully silly.

          • Terri Sutton

I was talking about other people over reaction to Spooky asking Amanda about sex. It was like, ugh, that is about 90% less explicit than the conversations that I have taken part of and the ones with all men (I am so one of the boys, it is funny) are less explicit than the ones were everyone is a woman.

  • Jen Roberts

I WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION.

    • Klaus

      You will.

    • Klaus

      You will.

  • Saxon_Brenton

[whaps head as obvious answer reveals itself] Commander can answer literally truthfully and wipe the smile off Spooky’s face by giving the answer from the second Spooky text story: “Whenever you use your healing powers, it feels sexually arousing. That’s why I try to avoid letting you use your magic to heal me.”

    • Chris Dangerfield

CHRIS EXPLORES THE RAMIFICATIONS OF SAXON’S “HEALING HANDS THEORY”…

[upon hearing that Spooky’s healing power causes The Commander sexual pleasure, each of the guys seem to have a different reaction]

Paul: (grinning) I think I have a bruise here Spooky…
Mitch: (smiles holding up his pinkie) I got this paper cut yesterday and it’s REALLY sore…
      Amanda: You guys, stop it.
Paul: (grins at Kyle) I think you have a pulled groin-muscle.
      Kyle: (bright red) Shaddup ass-wipe!
Gordon: Can we move on? I have never, I repeat never, felt better in my life (looks grumpier if possible).
Spooky: (looks at Amanda curiously) Reeeeeaaaally?
Amanda: (rolls her eyes) So predictable… (dusts hands) NEXT, MY TURN!
      Everyone (but Gordon): HEY WAIT!
Amanda: Nope. No follow ups. Moving on. Spooky? We okay?
Spooky: (still a little stunned… nods) Yep. Veritas is good, but maybe you could tell me this again, later?
Amanda: Okay, Mitch… TRUTH OR DARE?
Mitch: (blushes and looks terrified) Dare? Wait… no TRUTH? No dar… NO uh TRUTH!
      Amanda: (looks sympathetic) You sure?
Mitch: (still bright red) No, Yes. YES.
Amanda: What are you wearing? Boxers or briefs.
      Mitch: (more blushing) Uhuhuhuh…
Amanda: (rolls her eyes) Mitch, please tell me that you’re actually wearing underwear at all, let alone a clean pair?
      Mitch: !
Paul: (laughing) Excellent! Flyboy goes ‘commando’ for the The Commander. (Mitch with yet moar blushing)

[Suddenly, previously silent, but now unable to handle the pressure, Gordon jumps to his feet and looks at them furiously.]

Gordon: (thunderously grumpy) Fine you assholes. FINE………….. I’M DATING A WHITE WOMAN. (silence) YEAH I SAID IT. SO JUST FECK OFF. ALL OF YOU! (furiously Gordon stomps from the room, incredible hulk style.)

      [a stunned silence ensues]

Spooky: (looking bemused) I was just going to say congratulations……………….. and I think we’re more than finished here now. Um Veritas wise. Erm… NEXT?

      • Saxon_Brenton

That’s all well and good Chris, but I think you’re letting yourself get distracted on how the other team members will react later. For the moment I’m focusing on how Commander can tweak Spooky’s nose: Therefore:
Edit: and reading over this after-the-fact, I think it looses a lot of impact in script form. It would probably look a lot better as finished art or even as a text story.

Hypothtical next page. 5 panels: 1 long panorama panel across width of page as top tier, 1 large square-ish panel in centre on second tier, 3 identically sized panels running along bottom of page in third tier.

Panel 1: Widescreen shot of Spooky and Commander sitting on couch. This is a wide, low panel running across the page. Perspective is slightly angled so that Spooky is in the foreground of the panel on far left hand side, while Commander is in the middle ground of the panel on not-quite-extreme the right hand side. Leave room for her dialog ballons on the far right edge of panel. Spooky’s face is in profile to readers as he looks at Commander with a self-confident smile. Commander is serene, with no identication of what she is about to unleash on him. Commander is holding up her hand, with three fingers extended as she prepares to count off her points.

Dialog (Commander): “Easy answer. Three quick sentences.”

Panel 2: Closeup of head and shoulders of Commander. This is a large panel showing Commander leaning forward. Her three sentences of dialog run along the bottom of the panel, and each sentence has it’s dialog balloon which hovers directly above the three panels that are the reaction shots of Spooky. Her dialog balloons are not on a single horizontal level, but instead drop very slightly from left to right.

Dialog (Commander): “When you use you healing powers, it’s sexually arousing.”

Dialog (COmmander): “So you are the only one on the team that I have sexual thoughts about.”

Dialog (Commander): “And that’s why I avoid letting you use healing magic on me.”

Panel 3: Reaction shot 1: Closeup of Spooky’s face. The final three panels are all reaction shots of Spooky, cropped from the same front-on angle. In the first panel Spooky has a surprised look on his face. He had no idea that his healing magic affected the Commander this way; no-one else has ever mentioned this effect or behaved in a way that even hints at this.

Panel 4: Reaction shot 2: Closeup of Spooky’s face. In the second panel Spooky has a smugly satisfied “I knew it” grin.

Panel 5: Reaction shot 1: Closeup of Spooky’s face. In the third panel Spooky rolls his eyes in a self-depreciating “Okay, you caught me” half-smile.

(chris whistles appreciatively and sends Saxon’s submission off to the the webcomic fanfic review board for full editorial approval.)

  • TwilightDreamer

oh man! Poor Amanda! XD I mean I get what Spooky is saying….but still…mean…

  • jreed3842

Slightly off topic. But this is just a thought I had.
    Ya know what I love?
    This community!
Everyone is so welcoming, friendly, and kind. I truly enjoy hearing what other members of this community have to say. I love how people feel comfortable sharing info about their everyday lives. I love how others try to encourage those who have said they had a rough day.
And I know that every single member of this community would share their food with their fellow Young Protectors fans if we all actually got together for a camping session. Everyone here is just so awesome. 🙂
I’ve seen some communities where people try to talk about their days and people are like “omg, stfu, no one cares.” (or something similar.) I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single word of hate or mistreatment in all these years I’ve been commenting in this community.

    Uh… That’s it for today. I hope everyone has a wonderful day/night/evening/morning!

    • I love this community too. For all the reasons you said, and the respectful way y’all are able to talk about tough stuff — y’all make me proud. 🙂

    • Michael

It really is a great group 🙂

Just try not to slip in the goat blood.

      • jreed3842

Luckily there wasn’t too much, so I think I’m good.
I did put up a “Wet Floor” sigh though…. just to be safe.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        I saiiiiiiid, that was someone else’s goat blood…. !

        • Michael

Right, there just happened to be someone else who wandered in (from another comic, no doubt), messily sacrificed a goat for no reason, and then disappeared leaving no other traces of their existence aside from the blood, before you arrived with your own propitiatory Pyrenean?

A likely story, Chris. *taps foot*

          • Chris Dangerfield

Well thank goodness… that’s it exactly! (finally SOMEONE understands. lol).

    • Jen Roberts

*sets out the ice cream & cookies, with plenty of vegan/gluten-free/lactose-free offerings for everyone!* this community is, in fact, awesome 🙂

Another option: Amanda can quite truthfully say… no-one in the group Just because she is in a room with 5 men, doesn’t mean she has to fancy any of them. I know for me, I didn’t fancy any of the guys I worked with and never had any sexual fantasies about any of them. Of course… none of them looked like these guys.

    • Klaus

Then again, she has shown interest in Spooky in the past.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Well, *grins* honestly, who hasn’t?

  • Connor

I posited a couple pages ago that the most important part of the curse being lifted is the belief that they’ve met the requirements, and this makes me think so even more. Kyle has been decidedly less than entirely honest, so he really shouldn’t be safe… but he trusts Spooky completely, and so Spooky’s judgement that he is safe (even if not made with complete knowledge of Kyle’s truthfulness) would make him so. Amanda, on the other hand, is much more likely to be aware of the fact that Spooky is not infallible, so she’s going to have to follow the rules a lot more closely in order to be convinced that she has followed them.

    I think.

  • Plot twist: nobody. Further plot twist: because she thinks about Platinum Priestess instead. o.O

    • Phyre Storm

Yeah, seriously. What if she’s a lesbian? Way to make assumptions, Spooky.

      • Madock345

If she’s a lesbian, Spooky probably knows and is just pulling her leg. They do seem to be closer than the rest of the team.

    • Klaus

The answer to the first question asked of Spooky was “nobody”. This was not not good enough, which is why Spooky took the dare.

  • bronakopdin

I thought the same as @vampsmaxwell:disqus right below me, though even without the Lesbian part ^^ you can have nice friendly relationships with guys and still don’t think of any one of them sexually xD
Though this is still very interesting and wonder how Amanda will answer this 😀

Maybe she goes like “Oh it won’t be the only answer I have to give, we’re not playing only one round, are we?” or sth along those lines ^^

But I think it’s sooo funny and interesting how The other guys look after Spooky asked the question xD
Paul exactly like his exclamation suggest
Mitch somehow curious but rather desinterested (if you compare it with his kiddy curious eyes from when he asked Kyle how it is when Spook ystays over ^^)
and Gordon! Well if you ask me HE looks quite interested for the first time in this whole scene 😀 Well still grumpy… but I can see a little curiosty in his eyes, too… I think…

  • Phyre Storm

    “Bah. Fine. YOU! Happy?”
    “YES! :D”

    • kamishiro

I can totally imagine this happening xD

  • Madock345

“All of you. In various combinations and positions.”

  • somebody

I bet a fanart on Tsunami! Who’s with me?

  • LL

    I wanna know…can you show me? 😉

    • Madock345

I wanna know about these strangers like me!

  • Columbine

Yeah I think she’s gonna say she doesn’t think about any of them that way- I remember doing something like this at school actually. It was an all-girls school bunch of us and one of them started going ‘ooooo but if you *had* to who would you kiss?’

There is *no* polite way to say to a bunch of your friends ‘well none of you cos you’re great people and all but you’re all terribly unattractive.’

    • Terri Sutton

It reminds me of some of things that was said during similar games when I was in school, and we were the little shits who found rudeness funny so every response was a variation of; “you lot are butt ugly”.

  • Jeldenil

Tssk Kyle, don’t stop touching Spooky. He’ll get cold.

    • Klaus

Kyle is wearing gloves. He would have to touch Spooky with his head.

      • Archidel

I don’t think any of us would have a problem with various types of touch between Spooky and Kyle that involve the head or parts thereof.

  • kamishiro

My guess would be Spooky buuuut i would be happier if the question was who you are attracted, as a person, instead of sexually :PPP

But this make me remember the last time Spooky teased Amanda with all of them showering together :PPPP

So maybe….everyone? I’m okay with an harem fantasy :PPP

  • Arias

I’ve just realized I don’t understand Commander’s uniform at all. Is that a window that unbuttons? Why would that be a design feature?

    • Klaus

It could be that the seams and buttons are just decoration.

    • davefragments

That’s a Cavalry shirt with a bib front. You can find pictures of them on the internet. Some places sell them. Mostly they are reenacters outfits and for the western crowd. It has that official military look.

  • Pikinanou

Yeah, Amanda, he’s only asking you this for your well-being, not because he’s curious, you know? 😛

  • purplefoxglove

Sounds to me like Amanda is not the only one who’s pretty much fearless O.o

  • Stubbylegs

No questions about sex? Where’s the fun in that?

  • Hm. I can see Spooky’s line of reasoning on why it has to be a question about sex for Amanda, but I think Amanda not wanting to answer such questions isn’t her main reason for banning them. There’s a real risk that at least two of the guys might lie even at the risk of their life; and one of them is under 16 and while we all know that people don’t magically become aware of sex on their 16th birthday, it’s still a lot of pressure to put a young teen under.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

Awww gee guys……..I had to stop in my tracks….run all the way back upstairs and grab my smokes for this one! Talk about hitting below the belt! Not sure I want to know where this answer is going to lead….turn me loose and give me choice….Ummmm no it isn’t about me…..Carry on!

  • Chris Dangerfield

Oh Alex and Julie, well done. You do know how to make a childhood game both incredibly silly fun and at the same time, oddly dangerous.

Panel #1: Okay for the gang in the comments voting on the cutest Spooky expressions below… Panel 1 & 6 tie for first place (for me) — but for opposite reasons. That sweet Spooky smile, in #1. He’s just such a great character. He’s been through the worst trauma of all of them (that includes a character who very innocently burns down his house and injures his foster family the first time he ejaculates) and yet Spooky is determined to be a happy person. So he looks for joy in every moment. How can you not admire that. I love the expressions on both of them. Amanda is perfectly relaxed. She knows she safe with Spooky. It’s a great composition. Leaning back in the sofa. Love her smile and her ‘no hesitation’ choice of “TRUTH.” She is so The Commander.

Panel #2: Kyle is just the sweetest face peeking out from safely behind Spooky. Well, YEAH, I’d be the world’s greatest super hero too… if I didn’t have to take on The Commander. LOL. I love Spooky’s fake funny expression… with that hysterical little finger/thumb to chin move and that little moux with the mouth. Great expressions Julie. Hmmmmm… what can it be? Hmmm… Yeah right! And then… (haha).

Panel #3: Again with adorable (I’m so dead) expression! (OH MY LOOK WHAT I JUST THOUGHT OF?) HA with the, “Oh. EASY line. Too great.

Panel #4: I can’t remember who mentioned Spooky teasing about the showers in the Interlude, but this feels like that and JUST LIKE IN THAT SCENE, Amanda is NOT a victim-type. If she didn’t believe Spooky was right. She wouldn’t do this. That simple. This is not 13 year-old ‘Truth or Dare’ in your parents basement. It’s a deadly spell.

So I read Amanda’s reaction (and indeed Spooky’s choices) in context and in relation to her character. In this panel, Amanda doesn’t even blink. NO SHOCK. Calm as a pool of still water. Spooky’s big goofy grin shows us that HE KNOWS he is actually lobbing her a softball question. One that she is certainly old enough and confident enough to field. It’s the young pups in back like Paul (OMG?) and Mitch (HUH?) and Gordon (SO OVER IT!) who are the funny ones in this panel. Great job you guys. It’s a packed panel, but a clear one and a fun one.

Panel #5: Again, Amanda is neither worried nor shocked. She’s just the boss. (think of the Admiral with her bedazzled newspaper and you’ll get the idea… The Boss saying, “I THOUGHT I SAID.”).

Panel #6: Spooky is right. He is doing what he has to to keep her safe. There is nothing He can say that is beyond her ability to deal with. It’s not like Spooky said, “In detail please, what is your one memory that triggers a PTSD flash-back.” Noooooeeee. He asks a nice general question. A question, that can have (as is usual with tricksy Alex) a hundred different answers. But it can honestly have one as simple as… “At this moment? None of you.” As long as she’s honest. Her expression is perfect. At worst, it’s that is the look you give your bestfriend when they’re being annoyingly right. And Alex and Julie… you get the gold star award for giving Spooking the most adorably earnest, sweet, cheek pinchable expression on earth. What wouldn’t ANYONE do for that adorbs expression.

(NO! For the last time, I’m completely unbiased and indifferent to Spooky. Shaaaaddddup!)

Again, another fun and sweet step in this “game”. Alex TRUTH OR DARE? TRUTH? — “Is it Friday yet?” Thanks for this page!

    • Thank you for another fun play-by-play, Chris! 🙂

  • Danny

I’ve noticed that a lot of commenters are giving Gordon (Tsunami) a hard time for continuing to look grumpy throughout this comic. However, it feels to me as if he’s trying very hard to be “the adult in the room”. He sees the game as trivial, though I doubt he views the Curse as such, and all the questions and dares so far are just so typically immature to him. Seeing everything from this perspective, it’s no wonder he looks bored and a little resentful.

Maybe he’s also thinking about the types of questions that his teammates will ask him and is dreading the answer he’ll have to give in order to survive. I get the idea that he tends to distance himself from the rest of the team in order to be more of an authority figure instead of a friend, so there are probably many things his teammates would like to ask that he would rather not talk about.

Also, regarding Spooky’s expressions, I must admit that I’m partial to panel #2.

    • A nice analysis, Danny. 🙂

      • Danny

Thanks! It just seems so easy to discount Gordon based on his discomfort with anything remotely sexual and his potentially homophobic feelings. But he’s there for at least five reasons, knowing your writing style, and there will be valid reasons for his feelings and actions even if they aren’t nice ones. I’m interested to see where he’s coming from and where he’s going.

  • fujoshifanatic

Wai! Another awesome page in this mini-saga! Can Spooky and Amanda be more adorable on this page!? All of their expressions to me are so engaging and cute to the max! Julie, you are so good at rendering their core personalities through their expressions. Even without speech bubbles, I could tell that Spooky was the playful, earnest one and Amanda, was the cool, (mostly) unflappable one in this conversation.

I especially love her expression in the last panel, where she looks like she might be regretting picking truth just now, and that she is thiiiis close to breaking out in a blush over that question. Kyle’s and the rest of the peanut gallery’s expressions are equally priceless; they know Spooky has pulled up quite the Pandora’s box and that it’s a big thing that they get to peek inside–even if they won’t remember what they saw in the morning. 😀

Perfect way to enjoy the day after my birthday, after a long day of orientation for grad school. Thanks Alex and Julie; starting next week, you’ll be the highlight of my breaks from studying at least twice a week. 😀

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Happy Birthday!

      • fujoshifanatic

        Thanks Chris! *bashful smile*

    • Happy Belated Birthday!

      • fujoshifanatic

        Aw, thanks Doki!

    • Happy Birthday!!

      • fujoshifanatic

        Thanks Admiral! *salutes*

    • bronakopdin

      Happy belated birthday 🙂

      • fujoshifanatic

        Thank you Bronakopdin! 🙂

    • A belated happy birthday.

      • fujoshifanatic

Thank you Danish…mmm, danish…*runs off to find some lunch*

    • Very glad you’re enjoying this, fujoshifanatic! And Happy (late) Birthday! 🙂

      • fujoshifanatic

Thanks Alex! Hope you’re enjoying Toronto! I’ve been to Canuk country by way of Montreal, but that was way back when I was a pup. I’ve heard Toronto is a fun city, so once I break in my new passport all over Europe, I plan to get a stamp from there as well. 🙂

  • Klaus

What happend to the site? The only thing I can see is the Artifice title page. everything else gives an error 404

    • Alex mentioned on twitter that there was a problem with the site and he is working on getting it fixed.

      • Chris Dangerfield

I think the Commander turned the TYP site off before she had to answer her Truth or Dare question… PLOT! I smell a plot. (ExSec?)

        • fujoshifanatic

          Brilliant!

  • andrea

    damn it spooky DX

    • Chris Dangerfield

True that. If anyone (other than Sircea) knows how to damn it… Spooky does.

  • Dave Nguyen

Amanda now has to choose between admitting that Spooky is right, or risk dying.

Boss gotta make all sorts of tough decisions.

  • Cman65

Man Spooky you are showing some ball asking that

  • Michael

Is it too early to start camping for the next page?

    • Klaus

It is never too early to start camping.

    • Chris Dangerfield

When you start to really worry is when you realize that you never really STOPPED camping… (ouch).

      • Michael

        o.O

*reads instruction on bottle* “If tent lasts for more than three days, consult a doctor”

I think I pitched my tent on the first page of the comic, and it’s still up.

        *blushes*

        • Chris Dangerfield

HA. (‘campriapism’ is a serious condition…)

          • Michael

so is slipping in goat blood.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Properly safe footwear is a must … Make sure you read all the safety guidelines before camping!

        • LOL.. comment of the day 🙂

        • fujoshifanatic

You win the internet for today!

  • Chris Dangerfield

Erm… so I was doing some Christmas shopping (OK LIE — it was all for me) and I discovered some awesomeness at Alex’s store that I’d missed previously. ‘DOH. And, yes I’m being a perfidious wank-badger by supporting the evil Duncan, but this is just too cool not to share:

    WANT! WANT! WANT!

    http://store.yaoi911.com/the-annihilator-gay-thing-card-5-x-7/

    • Adam Black

      plussing for “wank-badger”

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Perfidious wank-badger, no less.

        • Chris Dangerfield

Well, some of the alignment on my moral compass goes whacky, and most of my righteous indignation flies right out of the window in the face of excellent merchandise and a good shopping opportunity. So, I say, face the music and then go shopping for that hot Duncan merch. (LOL) I can always bad mouth Duncan… tomorrow!

          WANT! WANT! WANT!

  • Lillihandra

    DAMN Spooks.

  • Adam Black

For the revenge of this sexual -harassment I hope she tells the truth and humiliates them.

Amanda: Listen you guys. I am glad you are going to forget this, but this night is about to get even more awkward.

“The truth is I am a telepath. That means I always know each time ,every one of you gets an erection; and what you were thinking, and why you got it. Even when you dont.”
( They eye each other sheepishly. A look of horror briefly washes over Kyle and paul . Gordon facepalms. Spooky smiles broadly. )

“You are five Young men. That means Its all I can do, not to think about all of you sexually , all the time. But because of what YOU are thinking and feeling about. ”

“I dont need ‘Truth or Dare’ to know what you are thinking Spooky. Or you Paul, Kyle, Mitch, and Gordon . I can confirm : I can feel that each of you was sexually excited at some point since the game began.
Or Now:” ( looks hard at Spooky )

“Spookys is right, i didn’t want you to know ; but not so I wouldn’t be embarrassed, but so that you wouldnt . “

    • Kate G

      ^This.

    • Madock345

Is it really sexual harassment? I mean, they’re playing truth or dare. This question gets asked in literally every truth or dare game, it’s a staple. Either she’s literally never played before, or thought about it ever, or she had to know this was coming.

Still, I do hope that’s her answer, if only because it would be hilarious.

    • Michael

She wouldn’t do this, because she’d know that Kyle and Mitch at LEAST (and maybe Gordon as well) would be likely to vocally deny the last bit, and that skirts dangerously close to lying while under the Veritas curse.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Thanks so much @disqus_FidZAwLkzS:disqus … You just made me feel so sorry for Amanda.

If she had been around me at the age of 14-17 and “knew” every time I had a spontaneous erection? I wouldn’t wish that on mire direst enemy.

OMG. I have this image in my head of the house-hold scene where Amanda is your older sister and at about 10:45 am everyone hears her scream at the top of her lungs, “AUUUUUUUUGH… NOT AGAIN!!! It’s only 10:45 in the morning. FFS! Can’t you give it a rest…?” This followed by the sound of breaking glass as she throws herself (or me) through a second story window.

Now you have me praying that she was an only child… poor thing.

  • Somehow i think the comic has gotten a group of new readers today 😉
HI, if any of you new readers see the comments here, and I hope you’ll joing us here at the ‘camp’ before a new page later today. Starts in few hours and forward.

    • Michael

Is it bad that this is kind of hot?

      • Klaus

        Very.

    • Klaus

“an excruciatingly terrible yaoi porn comic”. I don’t think so. It is not terrible, it is not porn, and it is not really yaoi. A defining characteristic of yaoi is that is is written for girls.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Well, the website’s name is Yaoi 911…

        • Chris Dangerfield

Touché… LADIES AND GENTS THE STICK HAS RETURNED!!!!!!

        • Klaus

“How many legs does a donkey have if we call the tail a leg?”

    • Chris Dangerfield

Well it took me quite a few reads to parse out what was there. It’s not really a review of TYP as a whole. The post only focuses on Duncan’s age and Kyle’s age and that the writer was completely surprised at being able to overcome those facts and become interested in TYP as a whole.

They hyper sexualized writing style is great fun to read, but shouldn’t be surprising coming from a Tumblr site entitled…

      “starscream’s craterous robot pussy”

So, appropriately perhaps, the writer has a very witty and very sexually aggressive writing style. Make of it what you will.

I related to the fact that I remember how strongly I reacted to what was to a me a form of “rape” scene during and after the hell-date. I almost walked away from the book at that point. It was really only Alex and his philosphy as a writer that allowed me to look at the book from a larger vantage point of fiction and now it’s pretty clear that I’m a hard core fan. I had no trouble with age disparity, but the betrayal was hard for me. Ultimately that just speaks to very effective writing more than anything.

Someone else in the comments mentioned that it’s one thing to come to a graphic novel like this, having read ARTIFICE and Alex’s other works, as opposed to starting TYP cold turkey with no relationship to his work or this style. I think it’s hard to pigeon hole Alex’s work in any typical box. Many of the things typical of “Gay” in yaoi are not typical of Alex’s work. So, I’m not surprised that people might imagine they are getting something ordinary and then discover it’s much more than they might have expected.

As a creator, who I think is allowed some sense of ownership over his creations, I applaud the suave aplomb of Alex’s Tumblr reply. I doubt even Spooky could have been cooler. Ha.

      • Kit the Coyote

Well I will admit that I found the ‘rape’ disturbing too. Its a guilty pleasure that I found what Duncan did to Kyle to be unforgivable and yet I hope that he will be redeemed in the end.

        • Chris Dangerfield

Well, I’ve been told I’m a marshmallow. I always hope for a happy ending… but one that I will believe in. I’ve said it so many times… that I can imagine Duncan dying to save whatever (Kyle, the world, something?) and we all go… “D’awwwwwww…” And yet, I have no ability to imagine a scenario where I would be able to be comfortable with Duncan and Kyle ending up as an couple.

Now that said I will not put any money down in Vegas on outcomes where tricksy Alex is involved. I haven’t out-predicted him yet. I’m just saying… I can’t figure it out. HA.

[fine print: statement above does not include time travel, memory wiping, reincarnation or any overly significant but unbelievable deus ex machina shenanigans. heeeeee…..]

          • Kit the Coyote

I agree totally, in any realistic view the betrayal is as I said unforgivable, but we can hope that Alex actually manages to surprise us with finding a way to fix it.

    • Kit the Coyote

Its like WOW, just WOW. I really felt the need to smoke a cigarette after reading that (and I don’t smoke). But hey I got David’s phone number how cool is that!?

  • stickfigurefairytales

Hi everybody! I’m back from my trip now and ready to camp! Even though that won’t actually start for several hours. 🙂

    • Chris Dangerfield

Welcome back. I hope it’s good to be home!

      • stickfigurefairytales

It is indeed good to be home, although I had a fantastic time in Hawaii!

      • stickfigurefairytales

And it’s great to see you guys again! Thanks for the welcome, Chris! 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

My guess for the answer here is gonna be Spooky and Gordon. Because Spooky is Spooky (not to mention they’ve at least kissed in the past), and Gordon spends most of the time shirtless with incredible muscles and those gorgeous tattoos. Hmm, or maybe I am projecting?

    • Gordon is too muscle-y for me. It really depends on Amanda’s type.

      • Michael

Agreed, I’m more waiting for Mitch to turn 18.

That doesn’t sound creepy at all, no sir.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        That’s a good point.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Also, hi Doki! It’s so great to see you again!

        • Hey stick! I am mostly not sick. ^_^

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hooray for mostly! Fingers crossed that you’ll get all the way to completely not sick soon. ^_^

    • Chris Dangerfield

Projecting?? Golly Miss Stick, I’m sure I’vvve never projected. So, I have NO idea what you could be talking about. :::lie detecter overheats and explodes:::

      • Michael

Depends, when Gorden takes his shirt off (off? When does he ever put it on?), a small part of you projects quite nicely.

        • Chris Dangerfield

          HA!

  • ::peeks into camp … sneak-sneak-sneak … pokes head up and sniffs at the air … sneak-sneak-sneak … curls up near fire and waits for chocolatey goodness and good friends to arrive::

  • Sapfo

The time zones are twisting my mind, so I no longer know what day is camping or not. But since here is so much to do, I will just wish you all happy camping ❤️

    • Hope you’re having lots and lots of fun! 🙂

      • Chris Dangerfield

Fun? Strawberry? Of course. They should watch out. I hope they’re ready for our Sapf!!!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Thank you, and hope you’re doing well!

    • Give Hamlet my love!

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Ooh, mine too!

    • Chris Dangerfield

UMMMM… it’s an hour later than when you posted and it’s 5:45pm here and it’s 10:45am in Tokyo (right?). So good morning!!! Wow, it’s once when a late page won’t bother you a bit.

Oh, and happy safe travels! Have fun.

  • Keneu

Hello everyone. I couldn’t comment much lately because of internet problems, but I’m enjoying the story a lot so far.

  • Klaus

This page really highlights the difference between Julie’s and Adam’s styles. Adam does very realistic facial expressions. Julie’s are more theatrical. Expressions that could be seen from the back row of a large theater.

    • Michael

Agreed, but both are great in their own ways. Julie’s style is more archetypical, meaning readers can project themselves into the characters, where Adam’s more realistic style evokes a more interpersonal type of empathy.

There’s an interesting discussion of this in Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics about how artists can utilise pareidolia to create iconic characters that the reader can identify with as a reflection of themselves (sort of like how Chell, the heroine of the Portal games, has almost no personality or identifiable traits, allowing the players to become her in the game).

      • Chris Dangerfield

I’m always fascinated when I discover myself unconsciously projecting myself into a character… usually because I find myself musing about what, “I would have said or done.” I’ve done it so many times now, in books and films, that I start to laugh. It is something that always seems to creep up on me with great characters.

        • Michael

It’s interesting, with some stories I imagine myself as the main character, in others, I imagine myself beside the main character, as myself.

And that goes back to the difference between intrapersonal projection and interpersonal empathy.

          • Chris Dangerfield

It’s like that old saying about Cary Grant: “Every man either wanted to BE Cary Grant or be WITH him.”

And the tidy 1950s straight version was: “Every man wanted to BE Cary Grant and every woman wanted to be WITH him.”

In 2015 we know better… but the saying can still be bent around fictional characters just fine. 🙂

    • Chris Dangerfield

I agree, but the intangible thing they both achieve is that illusive thing called “appeal.” They both communicate character emotion and do it in way that is so appealing. Either style, it’s hard not to love our gang.

      • Michael

It’s hard not to be appealing with such a loveable bunch of characters, too.

        (Also, Chris. illusive, or elusive?)

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Ha. Thanks.

          • Michael

I mean, either would work, but they imply very different things about ‘appeal’. One one hand, it could be argued that ‘appeal’ in art is an illusion playing on our evolutionary predilection towards recognising human faces, anthropomorphising the nonhuman, and empathising with them; on the other hand it is clear that ‘appeal’ is hard to achieve.

Both words work, but it’s a matter of clarifying the intention of your comment.

            😛

          • Chris Dangerfield

I got that, but you were right. I was thinking of the “hard to find” version… so that’s better. 🙂

          • Michael

it’s both, so just call it *lusive.

The asterisk is Googlean, meaning it refers to all words ending in -lusive, including allusive, collusive, conclusive, delusive, elusive, exclusive, illusive, inclusive, occlusive, reclusive, preclusive and seclusive.

    • Sarah314159

      That’s a great description!

  • Xanderbowski

I’ve been following this comic for a long time now and decided to make an account to comment. (Yes this is my first comment.)

Anyhow of course Spooky would ask such a question. 😉

    • Michael

      Welcome to camp!

    • Chris Dangerfield

Welcome and, if I do say so myself… and I do, excellent first post! LOL. (I like that someone below named ‘sex’ a TRUTH OR DARE ‘staple’. Yep, it certainly is.

Soooooo… I guess if Amanda is feeling too old and stodgy dignified to talk about sex, it just means the right man is not there in the room with her. Otherwise, she might giggle… hey it could happen. LOL.

Yep… that’s pretty much how Truth or Dare worked in my single days. 🙂

      • Xanderbowski

I’m not quite sure how Disqus works, I know I’m only replying to Chris but thanks all for the warm welcomes. 🙂

The good ol’ days of Truth of Dare. 😉

The comments section seems very active – is there a new page coming up quite soon?

        • stickfigurefairytales

Yep! Generally new pages go up at some point in the next few hours on Tuesday and Friday nights (well, that part depends on your time zone, really – it’s night for me).

        • I see you’re in Europe like me, but an hour after my timezone. The TYP pages usually go up early wednes+saturday mornings for us. There’s always people ‘camping’ in the comments while waiting for the new page these days.

    • Welcome Xanderbowski!

    • Keneu

Welcome! Hope you have a great time in the community.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hooray! Welcome!!

    • Welcome, Xanderbowski! Very glad to have you here! 🙂

  • Tahir Raines

I just want to say that you that your work always cheers me up even when I’m feeling really down. Thank you for everything you choose to do and be.

    • What a sweet, wonderful thing to share. I’m glad to hear my work has that effect for you. Big hugs! 🙂

  • Michael

Who’s brought something to eat while we camp? Fortunately we don’t have any sacrificial goats this time, but I have cashew-spread sammiches to share. It’s like peanut butter, but made with cashews. SO GOOD.

    • Strawberry ice cream here

      • Michael

Nice! I’ve got pine-lime splice ice cream in the freezer. You know those classic ice-cream-onna-sticks made by Streets since the 50s? Excactly that flavour, but inna-tub instead of onna-stick.

        • Pine-lime?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            I’m guessing pineapple-lime?

          • That’s what I was thinking, but I thought I would ask.

          • Michael

OMG, I mistook you for an Australian.

            My apologies.

          • Oh no worries. 😀 Californian.

          • Michael

Close enough, then, at least in terms of weather.

You really should try it, the combination of pineapple, lime and vanilla is heavenly.

          • Well, we could use some of that Australian rain. 🙂

Edit: If I ever have a chance to run across such a flavor, I will. 🙂

          • Michael

Five years ago you wouldn’t have said that. 15 years of drought followed by devastating floods really changes the character of a nation.

        • Michael

Oops, I didn’t see that this had already posted. Disqus was playing funny-buggers with me, as my high school assistant librarian used to say.

      • Chris Dangerfield

I want cheesecake. I think the Admiral has hidden stores of cheesecake and is holding out on us!

        • Oh that’s been eaten up nom nom nom

          • Keneu

Now I have cheesecake cravings too. xD

          • It was good cheesecake too! 🙂

          • stickfigurefairytales

What kind was it? Regular or something fancy?

          • It was somewhat lemony. I added a bit of lemon zest and juice to the mixture.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            (chris stomach rumbles…)

          • With a lemon biscotti crust

          • Chris Dangerfield

            (rumbles louder… admiral is meannnn)

          • Nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom

          • stickfigurefairytales

            That sounds amazing!!

          • It’s so hard to find graham crackers without corn syrup, it’s just easier to bake something like biscotti and use that instead. Also, although I love graham crackers, I dislike it for pie crust.

That said, yes, yes it was. 🙂 I’ve also made a cheesecake with a chocolate biscotti crust.

          • stickfigurefairytales

That’s it, I’m inviting myself to your house.

          • 😀
If I’m going to bake, I just like knowing what I’m putting in there. 🙂

      • Michael

Nice! I have Pine-Lime Splice ice cream in the freezer. You remember/know those classic ice cream onna-sticks sold by Streets? Exactly that flavour, but inna-tub instead of onna-stick.

Bit of a shame, because the taste of wet timber always added a certain something to the final licks, and the risk of tongue-splinters added an element of excitement and danger.

    • Chris Dangerfield

You know what’s shocking about sacrificial goat leftovers is how well they freeze… does anyone want me to go defrost……….? WHAT?

      • Michael

I’m shocked there’s any left… How many goats did you sacrifice?!

        • Chris Dangerfield

Just one… but he was REEEEEEAAALLY big. I believe in sacrificing in bulk!

      • davefragments

Zombie goats rising from the dead!

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Nom nom nom…

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Oh and HI Dave!

          • davefragments

            I’m here, lurking
            wink, wink

    • Keneu

I’ve got actual cashews and oranges that look like they weigh half an kilo each. o.O

      • Michael

        YUM.

It’s autumn-to-winter here, so all our fresh oranges are weak and watery and don’t have that acidic tang that they’re supposed to.

I can’t wait until spring-to-summer, when the oranges are acidic and rich and bursting with toe-curling tanginess.

        • Keneu

Here is almost summer, so oranges are almost out of season (or so I think – I’m no expert). My family buy them in bulk from farmers instead of buying them in fruit shops. The oranges taste much better and have more juice, but they are sweet, not acidic. I love to eat them with all the juice dripping from my mouth, even if I get dirty.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        That sounds really good……….

        • Keneu

And it tastes much better. 😀

    • stickfigurefairytales

I’ve got some apple pie-flavored Kit Kats that my sister got me in Japan. They taste more like apple candy flavor than actual apple flavor, but they’re still pretty good.

  • Do we think it will be a late update because Alex is at TCAF?

    • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm, good point. I don’t know.

    • Chris Dangerfield

You think he’s doing cosplay as Laampros and doing jello shooters after hours with the Starfighter gang? Or…..

      • ….Starfighter is in Japan…having too much fun without us

        • Chris Dangerfield

I thought all fandoms could be at all cons depending on if it was in their region (?) … I mean since not everyone can get to Japan, someone who NEEDS to cosplay Abel might go to a Canadian con just for the fun?

          No?

          • They could, I am just missing Gryphon and Sapfo and the others despite all the pics they remember to tweet.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Yeah…

  • davefragments

What if Amanda turns the tables on Spooky – – grabs him and kisses him passionately? Or does that simply not work?

    • Chris Dangerfield

      HA! Not work for WHO?

      • davefragments

Would Spooky back down? Or would he be more likely to call her bluff?

        • Chris Dangerfield

          That’s actually a very interesting question…

  • Chris Dangerfield

    A wee milestone reminder…

We are only $270 away from our next Milestone. Yesssssss a delish… (oh let me use Alex’s words, he’s the writer ffs) “whole body in all its muscular, tattooed Full Monty glory” of our Tsunami as done by the nom nom nom artist Marccus.

Now for those of you who enjoyed Rum-Locker’s work. Here is a totally SFW peek at Marccus’ work… and… let me just say that I NEEEEEED to see our Tsunami as interpreted through Marccus’ eyes. (LOL).

    • stickfigurefairytales

Oh yeah, I’d be up for that…

  • Ninhursag

Omg, can Spooky get even more cuter than the first panel?
