Oh, thank goodness. All the guard has to do to be safe is be quiet. I was really worried there for a minute!

Over on the Patreon page, I posted up another Digital Kickstarter Reward, this time showing Commander’s very first kiss!

Curious to find out what happened there? Pledge $5 or more and you can see all the Digital Kickstarter Rewards I’ve posted on Patreon!

There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron (you can see them all here), and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron.

So! Ivan threatens Kanya with the power of reason, there’s some kind of safe against a wall, and Flyboy has apparently been taking this all in from a bird’s eye view. Does Kanya know what’s good for her? What’s in the safe? And exactly how long has Mitch been practicing that Nightwing pose?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 🙂

  • Heeello Mitch <3

    • davefragments

I almost had it. Missed by a second or two.
      congrats

      • Thank you. Was waiting to see if I made it. I just got here. Had just opened this 2nd tab to load the address for camp, and it missbehaved, so refreashed and there it was 😀
Now this was a morning rush. I’m still barely awake. Had to use about half a minute to remember that it was saturday, and why on earth I had set the alarmclock for 4.25 (now 15mins ago), and get myself out of bed.

      • I think the three of us were off by seconds. 🙂

    • Nice kill, Danish ;)p

    • Nice pounce!

  • davefragments

Here he comes to save his friend but what if his friend doesn’t need saving?

    • stickfigurefairytales

Oh, he does. If only from himself.

      • davefragments

        Definitely himself.
Ivan is going to go bat-crap crazy when people start flying away.
Ivan is like the opposite of Peter Pan.

  • *Shhh* Flyboy be very very quiet

  • Wait is that unconscious guy like Ivan’s twin?

    • I was just wondering that too. Sat here with my face turned to get an better view. Maybe that’s how Ivan knew, and decided to use the situation?

      • davefragments

That would make Ivan a very despicable guy.
Right now, he’s just a thief but if that is his brother. . .
        bad, bad, bad

        • Very very bad.

        • timemonkey

Depends on what kind of guy the brother is.

          • davefragments

Even ripping off your crooked brother is a wee bit too Cain and Abel for me. I mean to say that anyone cheating their own family is despicable, like bottom of the barrel despicable.

          • stickfigurefairytales

What if your brother is a supervillain? Are you allowed to thwart him?

          • Oooh good question!

          • davefragments

Thwart is OK but lie, cheat and steal is stepping over the line into villainy and betrayal. I’m thinking like Dante’s Inferno betrayal.

          • Well, according to the official rules, you are either required to thwart him, you’re required to join him, or you change your name and have a career in something completely unrelated to him, pretending you don’t know him or ever heard of him, until you’re forced to join him or thwart him an unlikely set of circumstances.

          • Klaus

Ivan must have known that there was a considerable risk that Cory would accidentially kill one or more of these people. And he does not care at all. Or rather, he most likely wants some deaths. That would give Ivan some leverage to get Cory to work for him again.

          • timemonkey

Ah. I do not agree with that.

      • I did a double take wondering if Ivan had been taken out suddenly. :

    • Klaus

That is the beard fashion for nasty types.

  • Cydney Sabin

Be vewwy vewwy quiet! He’s hunting wascawwy wobbews!

  • I’m wondering how Mitch knows Manito…

    • stickfigurefairytales

Me too! Maybe they go to school together?

  • mmmm yay Mitch

  • DC

I wonder how they are going to open the safe. Will Cory be able to or are they expecting Kanya to know the combination.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I’m guessing they’re going to have Cory rip it open.

      • DC

Yes most likely. Hopefully he can focus his power to open the door and not blow the whole safe through the wall 🙂 He is quite powerful.

        • Tyler Griffin

I now have a mental image of Cory trying to yank the door off of the safe, and instead it just bursts to pieces and coins, gems, loot just go flying everywhere.

          • Soirbleu

Like the way Mario gets gems and money?

          • Tyler Griffin

VERY SIMILAR! I like the way you think!

          • 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

    Go Mitch, go!!!

  • Getting here late to the camping party, but Mitch won’t be too late to this party 😉

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hi Starr!

    • Hmm, I’d say a little late. It would have been better if he’d made t before they ‘entered’ the door to the party 😉

  • stickfigurefairytales

I just received a lovely present from our beloved GryphonGirl that she picked out when she and Sapfo were in Japan – a doujinshi of my OTP from my favorite video game series! I’m so happy!!

    • Me too! Well, I didn’t get Miles and Phoenix, I got Makishima/Toudou from Yowamushi Pedal. Gryph and Sapfo are the best. ^_^

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Yes, they are!!!! ^__^

    • Jeldenil

That’s so sweet. Did you know each other outside Disqus? I would love to stay in touch with the awesome people I meet in comment sections.

      • It’s spreading around. Some of us mostly started to talk on Teahouse, then Startfighter and here. Others have joined in along the way from other comics where the same people crowd around. Then it’s individually moved outside of comments sections to twitter, facebook, tumblr, various fan(fic)sites, skype.. what ever some people are on and have found others and/or have shared with others.

Along the way some people have met one or more people from ‘in here’. I. myself, got to meet Sapfo last year + some ‘old time’ friends from Teahouse (who no longer are in comments sections).
This year, I’ll get to meet Sapfo again when we both get to room with Gryphon, Starr and PuzzleSavant at YaoiCon.

Hope to get to meet others I ‘know’ when there. Looking forward to meet Alex 😀

        • Jeldenil

Well, I have your twitter and stumbled upon Doki’s tumblr, but I would kindof feel like a stalker chasing everyone around the web, lol. It’d be great to meet the other fans, though. I wish I could afford going to cons outside the Netherlands. *sigh*

          • Doki is Doki everywhere. So Doki is easy to find. ^_^

          • Jeldenil

            added you on twitter 🙂

          • bandanajack

as i to have noticed. i am bandanajack everywhere as well, but the only other strip i read regularly is EMR. if i am going to jump in on a strip, it is usually one that is complete or nearly so. i have enough trouble remembering my real life appointments without trying to remember to check in on my favorite comics.

          • This will be my first con, and I can’t wait.

          • Me too. One day I’m totally going to have a holiday in America and make it conincide with a con just so I can meet all these artists and fans 🙂

        • Very much looking forward to meeting y’all as well! 🙂

  • Jim Dunaway

Does anyone besides me think that the guard is actually Amanda?

    • stickfigurefairytales

No, because if it was, she’d almost definitely have known about Mitch’s secret off-hours crimefighting, since this is set before the Truth or Dare bonus comic.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        That’s my thinking, at least.

        • Tyler Griffin

I agree, I think a lot of us, especially the American ones, are so used to Tokenism in media that when we see actual diversity in our stories kind of mucks with our perception and we try to see connections that probably arent there

    • It’s not. Her name hasn’t directly been told in the comic, but it’s Kanya. If you look a little above the comments section, but below the link buttons to Facebook, Twitter, Google etc. then you can see the name tags on everyone on the page.
You can also click each name, as a fast way to find every page that person is on.

  • Tyler Griffin

*Heavy SIgh* MASKS PEOPLE! MASKS ! They are a part of the costume for a REASON! We got Spiderman Movie Syndrome running amok! I think they’re all infected

    • joshsusser

I figured he took off the goggles so he could get a better look at things in the dim light. But now that I think of it, given his vision powers, maybe not.

      • Tyler Griffin

Unless his speedy flight over here caused a heavier than usual build up of bug spatter… speaking of which, ALEX!!!!! Doesn’t Mitch need a mouth guard!!!!! *Urghk*

    • Klaus

An actor’s most importent tool is the face, So you get people who have helmets, but take them off for the climactic fight. You get Eowyn disguising herself with as a helm that exposes her face. And so on.

      • Tyler Griffin

Yes, but thus far, all of our actors need to avoid any name recognition after the credits roll

        • Klaus

Do not confuse actor and character. The character, Flyboy, needs to avoid recognition. The actor, Adam, needs to show us the character’s emotions. Which is so much harder if you hide the character’s face.

  • Cory, I wouldn’t turn my back on Ivan if I were you.

  • stickfigurefairytales

    Glad you made it! 🙂

  • Oooh, I just went to Patreon to read the script for the page.

In last panel Mitch was to have a pose, almost as if a young Nightwing. I was actually having that association about the panel, but so happy to see it written down *Nightwing fangirl giggle*

    • Tyler Griffin

Ah, yes. Nightwing. DC’s not-at-all-subtle queerbait/fangirl target since he was conceived. You know one of my favorite things about Nightwing is that he gets put in all the sexy poses and situations that female superheroes usually get subjected to. It’s awesome

      • *lol* .. I didn’t know about this until many years later. I only knew I liked him from the start, when I first read a Batman comic where he appeared, when I was maybe 10-12 years old (which is over 20 years ago). When he first appeared in the animated Batman series, I was sold xD

As a Nightwing fangirl, it’s actually a disgrace that I’ve never read one of his own comics – or any comic where he has a larger part in it. Sadly superhero comics isn’t a big thing in Denmark anymore, so it’s been a few years since I’ve even read a Batman comic (or X-men which I collected) until both series – currently – stopped about 3-4 years ago. They show up on/off throughout the years, when a publisher decides to try, but I’ve generally only seen him in various animated series/movies.
I get what you mean about the poses though, from links I’ve seen around.

        • Derkins

I have cousins over there. Say hi to them for me, eh? :p

        • Tyler Griffin

I could see a market for the Graphic Novels where the regular issues didn’t take.

  • davefragments

I think Ivan is like one of the characters from Guardians of the Galaxy – –
    I have a plan!
    You have a plan?
    Yeah,
Well you only have a plan because I said I have a plan.

He has that type of “plan” that hasn’t quite for all the minutiae worked out. IT’s a good plan, almost, might even work, too!

  • jreed3842

The Security Guard is so fierce. I love panel 2!

  • Klaus

He wears those goggles to avoid being recognized. So when he encounters someone who might actually recognize him, he takes them off! Flyboy is just as smart as Ivan.

    • Tyler Griffin

Lots of learning to to, he has.

  • Fabulous Alien

Wow, I’ve never been this happy for a 15-year-old boy to show up. At least not since I was 15 myself.

  • Hey Doki,
Just got to think.. was this page my 60th V? Did I finally climb up to that number, now that it’s been going slow lately 😉

    • Just 9 more to go to get that magic number. ^_^

      • Tyler Griffin

        *sigh* Dirty minds think alike.

  • Jeldenil

Mitch, looking epic there. I expect some magic now.

    • Saxon_Brenton

And look: he even has his jacket fluttering like a cape.

      • Klaus

Oh dear! Mitch, look out for jet turbines, revolving doors, an so on.

        • Tyler Griffin

          NO CAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, I read a very interesting fan theory about the Incredibles not long ago. It talked about how adamant Edna Mode was about the no cape thing, and pointed out that one of the supers we see killed by her cape, the one sucked into the Jet turbine as a matter of fact, was only 15. A child. And how much it must have destroyed Edna to know that HER costume design killed an innocent child, which led to her policy of “I never look back. It distracts from the Now.” But then where did Syndrome go when he first started looking into designing HIS costume. We assume that he probably made most of his gadgets himself, but the costume itself, he did all kinds of research on the heroes themselves. It makes sense that he’s collaborate on the costume as well, and is it possible that Edna gave him a cape on purpose.

      • Jeldenil

Will Cory become his charming assistant?

  • Hmm – for a second I thought the guy on the floor in panel 3 is ivan’s twin brother.

    • Klaus

You are not the only one.

  • Klaus

Mitch can fly at mach 2, but how fast can he fly and still make a norrow turn? Narrow enough to get in and out of that room.

    • Saxon_Brenton

Actually, that’s a good question. From what we know about Flyboy, I’m willing to bet he’s experimented with it, as well as been training to find his limits and then stretch beyond them. We might not know whether he can do hairpin turns at mach 2 (yet), but he does.

    • Danny

Maybe he can kick off one of the walls.

      • Klaus

I hope he has done some very careful experiments before trying that at full speed.

        • Tyler Griffin

We still haven’t gotten an answer of how much of the necessary “invulnerability while moving” that is required to make his powers work he actually has.

  • Why oh why do you have to be 15 Mitch? If I could add about 15+ years to him… *runs away*

    • Phyre Storm

      Get in line, sister. 😛

      • Michael

        It’s a long line.

      • Don’t need to worry about me. He could be my kid at this point. So I’ll just ruffle his hair and pretend I never made that post. 😀

    • Tyler Griffin

I dunno about 15… 7 aughta do put him at his prime

      • Klaus

I have seen the claim somewhere that the peak of secual stamina is at 17. And he is going to need it. Just look at that line that is forming.

      • At my age anything below 30 and I’d feel like I was robbing the cradle. I mean they look like babies.

    • This is definitely one of the pages where I have to remind myself that I may not be old enough to be his grandmother, but I am more than old enough to be his mother.

  • Sapfo

First of all! If you are not a Patreon and have not seen Amandas first kiss. You really should. I would so love the story behind this.

Now back to this page. Mitch, Flyboy! He is sush a little cute little crimfighter!

  • thisboybroken

Is it wrong that that I think bad guy #1 is sorta hot?

    • Tyler Griffin

Bad Boy Allure, new from Calvin Klein. Now, for just 4 easy installments of 49.99 you too can waft that irresistible musk of danger, determination, bitterness, failure, and impotent rage that comes from being Bad Guy #1, please do not be fooled by our competitors, imitation products will, at best, give you only the rancid funk of Bad Guys #3, 4, or even 12.

    • Ha! 🙂

  • EyeDontNo

So Flyboy pulls Carl out of the scene. His ‘gang’ can no longer complete their ‘mission’. There is nothing for the security guard to open her mouth about. Every one goes home peacefully.
Like Alex would be that straightforward.

    • Tyler Griffin

I thought I head The Author laughing maniacally into the night, yep, that’d do it. Your plan is beautiful, simple, efficient, and therefore utterly unacceptable in this setting, lol.

      • Klaus

As my phsics teacherin the guymnasium used to say: “So simple, and yet so straightforward”

      • joshsusser

“For every problem there is a solution that is simple, elegant, and wrong.”

  • Aitsuki

Yeah, that look in the second to last panel… that says “I’m going to shoot this kid”.

    • Michael

Called it. Cory and Diego are loose ends, and a guy like Ivan doesn’t leave loose ends. Nor does he split the takings.

      • Tyler Griffin

Well, he hasn’t crossed the double just yet, he still has time to not be a complete poo-poo of a human being. But I’m inclined to agree with you about this.

        • Michael

I would be honestly shocked if Ivan decided that any moment in the near future will be the time to act like a decent, honourable human being.

  • Alt+F7

That guard is *not* going to be intimidated by some punk with a gun, and that’s so awesome.

    • Tyler Griffin

She knows he is lying dead to her face and is having NONE of it.

  • bronakopdin

So the guard’s name is Kanya! I really like that name 😀
Seeing Cory he seems really displeased by everything which suggests he wasn’t hyped for all of this anyway, then I’m wondering why he took part, just WHAT is in that safe?!
Mitch really has an awesome pose there! and I like the determination on his face 🙂

  • Columbine

Am I the only one who is mostly thinking ‘Mmmmm thighs-‘?

    • Klaus

      Probably not.

  • Tyler Griffin

So, uhm, anybody have any idea how long cat’s hold grudges. I just, uhm, accidentally bonked mine on the head with a laptop… She’s back on the foot of the bed bathing and preparing to resume her nap, but I swear I can feel that “I am potting your slow and agonizing death” disgruntled glare on my back…

    • Terri Sutton

I would suggest it depends on the cat’s disposition, it also affects what type of revenge they engage in.

One of my mum’s cats absolutely loathed me for 3 months after I fleaed her, but she wasn’t the confrontational type so all I got was glares when I was within eyesight of her.

    • Doug105

Try drugs, visit a store and grab catnip rub on clothing.

  • I love Kanya. She’s not intimidated, she’s just intelligent enough to not start a fight right now. It is so obvious that Ivan is dead meat if she sees a real opportunity to take him down.

  • Ninhursag

    Mitch to the rescue!

  • Pikinanou

How long he’s been practicing? He’s a natural at this 😛

  • Tahir Raines

I hope Kanya makes a return appearance sometimes down the line. I’m liking her a lot.

  • Dennis Grace

Damn. I keep looking at that last frame. No way is that a 15-year-old boy, which is probably good considering how little room he has left for improvement. if that boy were any hotter, he would cause simultaneous mass orgasms to ripple through the crowds when he walked down the street–and that’s just counting how he would affect the straight guys. (wow, talk about your obscure superpowers.)

  • bandanajack

the last, going into action, panel of flyboy poised to spring, is the most young adult, not cradle robbing, image of him to date, even though this is supposed to precede some other action. he looks like the full super hero package. (heh heh, i said package, heh heh)

  • Diviana

Mich, not protecting your secret identity are you.

  • Adam Black

and The Gunman has a twin on the ground ?

    • Klaus

No. They have this trick where they take bets that they are not twins. You see, they are actually triplets.

      • davefragments

No, they were an only child.

    • davefragments

After getting two on the first try, their parents were afraid to try again.

  • bandanajack

hey fans and friends, i had a talk with alex and asked him for a small (ish)
favor. i have a rather difficult move coming up, and i need all the help i can get. i am a septuagenarian with a blown out back living on social security, and i need to leave the noisy and wildly expensive island of oahu for the relatively bucolic, and much less expensive island of hawaii. the go fund me post explains it pretty well, or at least i have tried to. have a look, and for any who can, a few dollars will make a lot of difference in how i will live once i get there. you can’t pack up a uhaul to get from one island to another…
    http://www.gofundme.com/bigislandmovefund

    • stickfigurefairytales

I don’t know whether I’ll be able to donate, but I wish you good luck!

      • bandanajack

thanks. as alex has pointed out, in campaigns like this every dollar or two adds up. i am 25% towards my goal, and most of that came from smaller donations. i am excited to be on the move again, although i am REALLY getting too old to go through this. i have never been to the island of hawaii before, so it is a complete step into the unknown…

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Best of luck to you!!

  • Kate G

Is it just me or do I have deja vu with Mitch’s pose? It looks an awful lot like the famous Batman on the gargoyle crouch (or, as I like calling it, The Perch ) Is Mitch taking lessons from Batman on The Perch?

    The Perch by Jim Lee:
    https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/f8/fd/e1/f8fde1f9ca7f33a0df298d7374133427.jpg

Just remember Mitch: THINK before you act…..and put on your gosh darn goggles! Superheroes must always keep their civilian identities hidden!

  • Jason Moon

    OH yeah, THIS’LL go without a hitch…

  • Dick Grayson is the epitomy of a male Strong Female Character. It’s good to know that Flyboy has been reading up as well. XD

  • davefragments

I hope to be camping in about an hour. My driveway is paved. The property is quiet. Me and the deer and the squirrels have our peaceful coexistence once again.

Tonight I hope to see how Mitch doesn’t quite get this situation right. There’s a reason he was in near tears revealing his “secret” in that last chapter. I suspect this episode is the cause of it.

    • Yay for peace and quiet!!

      • davefragments

        I agree with that wholeheartedly.

  • stickfigurefairytales

I’m here for camping! Might not be able to stay the whole time if it’s a late page tonight, though.

  • So what’s in the basket?

    • davefragments

It was Chicken, strawberry jam, champagne and tortillas.

And one of Frank Zappa’s albums was “Weasels Ripped My Flesh.”

      • Ah! Well glad that there weren’t weasels in the basket.

But that doesn’t sound like a difficult challenge.

        • davefragments

I watched their five weeks of grilling outdoors and that was really hard on the cooks.
They aren’t on a level of weird and funky ingredients like the original Japanese Iron Chef. That was an adventure.

The second dish had lamb chops and string cheese, some sort of cauliflower, and something else.

          • Those Japanes Iron Chefs were absolute craziness!

I’m boring. I would have cut up the string cheese and melted it on the cauliflower.

          • davefragments

A number of years ago, I was watching The Iron Chef Japan episode where the secret ingredient was EEL with friends (three couples). IT was fun because the Eel were still alive in a tank and the two contestants slaughtered them on camera. Eel heads flew, blood spurted and people in my living room squealed. A friend of mine who ran a Chinese restaurant (I used to send the visiting Chinese Scientists to him) told me that the best eel is very, very, very, very, very, very fresh eel. It’s like picking the lobster from the tank. So they nail the eel behind the head, slit it open to remove the innards and expose the muscle and then chop the head and tail off. I’ve been told it tastes like deep fried fish.
I often wonder if people think that when hunters go hunt deer in the fall that the deer falls over and as it hits the ground a bright light appears and magically changes it into deer steak, ground meat and chops.
Likewise with the people who keep pet pigs of varying breeds. I look at the pig and see bacon, ribs, and barbecue. Not a pet.
Me carnivore! Me like meat! Me not graze for dinner.
            wink, wink

          • Or the big bowl of soup with a whole fish sitting in the middle of it with cloudy eyes. Bleck!

I just can’t if an animal has a name. But people have become separated from such things over the last several centuries, so it become difficult and so the grocery store thrives.

          • davefragments

Squid Ink Ice Cream seemed anathema to me. Don’t get me wrong. I can cook things like squid and octopus but Squid Ink Ice Cream seems altogether unholy and wrong.

My Brother’s VFD once held a pig roast and discovered that they should never have bough the pig early and let the kids see it, pet it, and name it. Kind of ruined the meal. . . We’ve always had a giggle about that tine boo-boo.

        • davefragments

Game meat aside, I love lamb. The teeny tiny lam chops they sell should have stayed with their mothers. . .
On the game meat – I knew a guy who would “roadkill” groundhog, deep-fry it and then take it to work as a sandwich the next day. . . Driving with him was like driving with a death squad if you didn’t fasten your seat belt. AS for lunch, I ate in the cafeteria or brought sandwiches.

The desert basket was — Rock candy, fresh ginger, lemon roll, a German spice liqueur

          • Ugh! The poor groundhog.

Yeah I feel bad for lambs. I can never buy lamb at the store.

I can buy a lab roast at Easter but these little lamb chops are a single mouthful for me. I can buy a bigger Delmonico for the same price or less and satisfy my carnivorous appetite.

  • Diviana

I accidentally stumbled into the camping for the first time.

      Welcome

      • Diviana

Glad to be here. I have a full water bottle and finished my errands so I think I’m prepared for this.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Welcome! Glad to have you.

    • Saxon_Brenton

Have some virtual marshamallows to toast on the virtual fire.

      • Diviana

Great, we can make virtual s’mores.

    • Welcome 😀 Hope you stumble in some more.

I’m here for camping….. But… I’m already nuzzled in my sleeping-bag. I’m super sleepy tonight! But I don’t have to work tomorrow…. so I honestly thing I’m just gonna lay in bed with my computer in front of me and just kinda drift in and out of sleep while occasionally checking to see if the page has updated.
I don’t plan on being very active in camping tonight, so…. have a good camp everybody!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Thank you! And I hope that you have a good time sleeping and relaxing tomorrow.

  • Hello.. *yawns*

  • anonywolf

Is camping over or still going on?

    • Still going., I just got here 🙂

      • anonywolf

Awesome – I can definitely stay up for it tonight……… chronic pain has been interfering with sleeping patterns lately.

        • That sucks 🙁
Luckily you now have a new page to read. And I who thought I’d be late today.

          • anonywolf

Thanks. The page was great. Hope I get some rest though.

    • davefragments

      yup!

    • Oops, refresh. The link didn’t attach to the comment the first time.

      • davefragments

        Same thing happened to me.
The past few days Disqus has been acting up in odd ways.
It’s there fault, yes, it’s their fault.

        • Yeaaah, it just posted a comment where it replaced the first line I wrote, and instead posted the 2nd line I originally wrote twice, as well. WTF?
And then refused to paste the link in my original comment twice. It took two edits o.O Definitely Disqus gremlins on the loose.

          • davefragments

It took three complete reloads to see your post on page 10. Disqus has been having some serious burps and belches.
