Hmm. What’s her game here?

So, the Kyle-Deacon pairing over at the Patreon Page has been a huge success! Patrons got to vote on which of my two characters from any of my comics they wanted to see together, and they chose Deacon from Artifice and Kyle from The Young Protectors. Painted by Marccus, this is the most explicit pin-up I’ve ever commissioned. Comments have included “This is fabulously sexy art, believable, tender and oh so hot. Marccus is an amazing artist and his rendering of anatomy is breathtaking.”, “This painting is GORGEOUS! It is graphic but very tasteful. Deacon and Kyle are rendered to loving perfection and if I might add, they have all the right…proportions.”, “Alex, that is one of the most beautiful pieces of art to come out of your work to date!”, “That is amazing, and the light dusting of red hairs, oh my gosh, what detail.” and “Oh, ohhhhhh myyyyyyy! Now that is one HOT piece of artwork, and so gorgeously rendered. An absolutely lovely reward!” (You can read more reactions by clicking on the preview image below.)

Patrons who join in August will be sent a digital wallpaper of the full image for their desktop once their pledges clear in the beginning of September. ($10+ Patrons will also be sent a high-res version of the wallpaper with double the resolution!)

Also, I’ve added a couple new Milestone Goals to the Patreon. At $8500/month (less than $250 away!), Patrons will get to vote on a brand-new pairing like this, and at $9000/month, they’ll get to vote for something I’ve never shown before: three of my characters together in a sexy pin-up!

There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron (you can see them all here), and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits!),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron.

So! Looks like those guys didn’t invite Cory and Diego to play cards at all! I actually think they might have wanted to hurt the brothers! Luckily, it seems no one can withstand the mighty power of Cory’s jazz hands. Will they, in fact, be fine? What kind of future does Ivan have planned for Cory? And does the kid know about this whole “kill the security guard” plan?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • O.O

    • Damn. I JUST managed to log into the site on this iPad I’m borrowing, just as page loaded. It was still page 7 when I Got here. I was SO close, but had to write first xD Seconds away from actually managing to get a V on an iPad with Danish dictionary.

      • Heeee!

        • Chris Dangerfield

Congrats, but smugness doth not become and Admiral… LOL.

    • Chris Dangerfield

We congrats, but how fast did you type that? 🙂

  • Oh crap!

  • davefragments

    O.o – – – oh me oh my
She has the right words and knows when to talk. There’s going to be angst tonight. Big angst. HUGE angst. Dreadful angst.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Kanya has recognised Cory’s conflicted moral scruples, and has decided to press his buttons hard.

  • Poor Cory sweetie! *hugs for Cory*

  • jreed3842

    *GASP*
They had better not kill that Security Guard.
As I mentioned a few pages back…. She is totally my favorite character!

But, seriously, this girl knows what she’s doing.
To me, she sees how upset he is at the possibility of killing someone, and if she throws that fact into his face…. it could probably buy her some time. (She doesn’t know Mitch is coming, but we do!)
And I think she’s trying to find a way out of this situation.

    Damn. I love this chick.

  • I don’t know, those jazz hands looked pretty powerful.

    • jreed3842

      I wish I had magic jazz hands….

      • Magic jazz hands would be awesome!!

Plus it’s the name of my new band. 😛

        • Soirbleu

I WOULD TOTALLY WATCH THAT BAND.

          • It would be an awesome band!!

          • Soirbleu

            IKNOW,RIGHT???

        • Chris Dangerfield

YOU? Lead singer? Or playing bass?

      • Michael

Why settle for jazz hands, when you could have dream hands? Or even better, DOUBLE dream hands!

    • Saxon_Brenton

      They do indeed.
That said, now you’ve got me wondering wherther he needs the magic jazz hands, of if they’re just habit/misunderstanding of how how own powers work/fill in some other cod-psychology reason here. As in, if he was tied up and unable to move, would Cory be able to use his telekinesis at all?

  • Diego’s feeble attempts to ‘protect’ Cory is getting a bit sad. He’s 15 not 5. Big bro needs to realize that.

Clever guard. She knows just where to hit and devide. Of course she wants to survive this, and she knows the strongest pawn is also the ‘weakest’ link here.

    • davefragments

He’s leading him into crime. Cory hasn’t been inclined to do so and since he’s a “little brother” then he’s been sheltered. So now, Diego is leading him into the adult world of thievery and other crimes.

    • Fabulous Alien

I find myself liking the security guard more and more. Her facial expressions are great and those words hit just the right spot.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Aw, I was going to come for camping, but then the baseball game I was watching ended up going into extra innings. Phooey. Nice new page, though! That one guy’s pretty dumb to be taking off his ski mask all the time. Although as we discussed, it must get really hot.

    • davefragments

Did they win or are they like my heart-breaking (curses, curses, naughty words) team and lost another one?

AND — let me say, Ivan don’t care. He’s a thug. You are either victim or thug with him, nothing in-between.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Actually, they’re still going! It’s the bottom of the 13th inning right now.

        • davefragments

          oooooooooohhh!

  • davefragments

Alex: Check the “mask” continuity between panels 4,5,6 — specifically, Ivan.

    • Ah. Roger that. I’ll let Adam know. Thank you. 🙂

      • davefragments

I was looking at Ivan’s goatee because Adam does such a great job on faces and emotions.

    • bronakopdin

ha, I wanted to point it out but I kinda knew someone would have already, thanks 🙂

  • davefragments

I have to go to sleep now. Have a good night.

    • night dave!

    • Night Dave!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Goodnight Dave!

    • Chris Dangerfield

Hmmmmm… notice how Dave has to take a nap when the going gets tense. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT!! LOL. 🙂

      • davefragments

        Ahem, a nap?
It’s called a good night’s sleep after a hard day.

  • Danny

Not to state the obvious, but Ivan only hid his face from the “bad people” that Cory just knocked out. He’s clearly not afraid now about anyone using his identity against him, and that makes me wonder just how much faith he has in his fellow petty criminals. Is anyone else a bit worried for Diego and Cory? (As the security guard herself pointed out, he’s almost certainly going to kill her off.) If Ivan doesn’t want to share the proceeds of the night’s events, he could easily kill them off and get away on his own. Yikes.

Mitch, please act quickly (but not hastily)!

    • Michael

If Ivan is ruthless enough, he might consider Cory and Diego to be witnesses, once the job is done. Besides which, if they’re out of the picture the loot’s all his.

      • Danny

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Now it occurs to me that he might use Diego to control Cory, and thus have his own pet super to help him commit crimes. Seems like something he’d like, based on his reaction in panel #4. That would be a really bad thing.

  • Michael

A haymaker right in the guilt trip. That’s gotta hurt.

  • Jeldenil

I find this a hard page to be witty about. Flyboy, I think this is your cue. Be careful.

  • EMR has updated: http://elanmeetsrafa.com/the-comic/ch27pg1/

    It has the kitties.

    • Jeldenil

Thank you for the reminder, dearest!

  • Poor Cory. This is so clearly not where he wants to be, and it’s starting to look like his brother’s not entirely comfortable with people getting killed, either; he just told himself it would be all right, and doesn’t know how to get himself out of this now that it isn’t all right.

Love the guard. She knows she’s fighting for her life, but she doesn’t panic, just works on the only weapon she might have.

  • Um… in Panel 4, Ivan looks a little like the Duncanator. o.O

    • bronakopdin

I thought sth similiar! Though how should I put it… somehow Duncan has more style and charm? xD can’t really put it into words…

      • Yes, Duncan is definitely more charming and suave.

  • bronakopdin

So I wonder what exactly Cory’s power is… sending things flying?
wondering even more if that kind of future Ivan talks about is the same kind Cory had in mind for himself…
and the warden speaks up! It’s true they have to do something about her… and in his mind Cory must have figured that though the situation and adrenaline maybe caused it not to sink in yet… though now he was made aware, so is THIS the moment our Mitch barges in?
    I guess it’s too early maybe ^^

    • Aitsuki

He seems to be a telekinetic. His approach is a bit strange in some ways, like him physically touching the door as he was removing it, so he might use his hands as a focus to direct what he’s doing.

  • Columbine

Jazz hands! That made me chuckle.

The security guard has brass ones! I like it, injecting a little nasty realism on the criminal world that’ll make the kid doubt himself even more. I’m also seeing….a few similarities with one of the short stories Alex did ages ago. It was about a group who tried to jump a guy in a gay-bashing attack and ended up with one kid who knowing it was wrong and trying to stop his friends. I think it’s the dynamic of the doubtful younger accomplice and the older ‘reassuring’ mentor figures who are definitely not telling him everything.

  • Klaus

The right thing to do for Ivan now is to pull the trigger immediately, before Cory can stop him.

    • Tyler Griffin

      “right” or “smart”? 😛

      • Klaus

        Right smart.

  • Aitsuki

Poor kid…. He’s being used, and he can feel it… but he doesn’t want that to be true. He wants to believe his brother wouldn’t do something that would put him in harm’s way…..

    • stickfigurefairytales

Or that would get other people (particularly innocent people) hurt. Poor kid.

  • Ninhursag

No, not the police lady, I haven’t had a good opinion on poilce in America for a while now, but she seems to be a decent person. Seems like the gang boss has a plan of his own to silence the cop forever but if he was smart enough he would have found another alternative.

    • Will it help that she’s not police but a security guard?

      • Ninhursag

Ok, security guard, their uniforms look similar to me.

  • Pikinanou

I think there’s a little mistake in this page: in the 4th panel, Ivan puts on his mask but in the last panel he doesn’t have it. Or is he taking it off but still has it in the 5th panel but not in the 6th one?

  • Tyler Griffin

    http://evil-inc.com/comic/invention-contest-3/

A potential quick fix for our beleaguered security guard?

  • Saxon_Brenton

I’m wondering exactly what Ivan’s angle is. As in: from the dialog on pages 5 and 6 that this is clearly a heist (Ivan p.5 panel 6 ; Diego p.6 panel 3). Next: although Ivan’s use of the phrase “Bad dudes” could be taken literally as ‘criminals’ or as slang for ‘bad asses/tough guys’, the look we get of the guys playing poker on page 7 seems to me to be visual shorthand for a criminal gang.

So my question is: Why is Ivan robbing what looks like an armed criminal gang when he’s armed with only a handgun and newbie superhuman of untested temperament? Are the pickings with robbing this group so good that he’s prepared to risk it? Surely there are softer targets that would be just as lucrative. Is Ivan simply being blinded by greed? Is he being blinded by his ego when he sees the opportunity to play tough guy himself? Does he have a grudge against this particular group, and the talk between Diego and Cory is just the bait to get them into the caper?

  • Saxon_Brenton

Ooo, and thinking about things, here’s a paranoid thought: Kenya isn’t just some random passing security guard. She’s a front set up by the gang to give their operations a semblance of plausibility/legitimacy. So when she starts trying to talk Cory out of doing something stupid, it’s not to keep Cory from doing something that could land him in jail or winding up dead. No, it’s to both buy time and split Cory’s group so that she and her employers can get the drop on them and kill them.

What? Stop looking at me in horror like that. It’s a perfectly legitimate plot twist.

    • Tyler Griffin

I had actually already had that thought, lol!

  • Tyler Griffin

I almost forgot it was Friday!

  • We are getting Mitch on the next page right?

  • davefragments

What a week! It’s driveway paving this week and Monday or should I say this year and chaos has ensued. There’s still equipment in my yard.
Take me away, Young Protectors. Take me away.
    wink,wink

  • stickfigurefairytales

It’s camping time! I’ve got some nice peach pie to share. Would anybody like a slice?

    • davefragments

I got ice cream, french vanilla.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Mmm, perfect combo!
