Got him!

So! Mitch was able to grab Cory — and was even able to hit super-sonic. Will it be enough to save the city? Will it be enough to save his friend? Or is Cory lost to him forever?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • BOOM!!

    • Damn, your computer has a fast loading time 🙂

      • Yours posted no more than a second after I did.

        • Michael

Same second, according to Disqus, both on 2:41 (my time), so it was within a split-second of each other.

        • More in real time.. Maybe 3-5secs 😉

          • That blue line popped up I mean right after. I wasn’t sure that I got it it was that fast.

          • Disqus makes it hard to say. Adding extra uncertainties to the hunt :-p

          • 😀

  • Boom, breaking the sound wall!

  • Michael

    Third is second runner-up, right?

A small part of my is wondering if/how Diego is getting out of that and to a hospital, but I think it’s probably too late for him.

  • Mitch gets it over water and then moves Cory faster than it can follow

It will just drop into the water now? and Kanya can call an ambulance for the brother?

    • Michael

For Cory’s sake I hope Diego makes it to the hospital.

  • Michael

Is it can be cuddles time on next page, now?

  • That ought to work better than a slap to the face. If that doesn’t bring Cory out of fugue state, it’s more than the debris that are screwed.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Hmm. Panel 4. Flyboy accelerates and the debris field doesn’t keep up. Is it too much to hope that the sonic boom has shocked Cory out of his fuge state, or is it simply that Cory’s TK reach isn’t supersonic and we have to wait for the next page to see the waterspout that forms in their wake?

  • davefragments

oh, rats, did I miss this — a real big BOOM

  • davefragments

That last panel is going to be my new wallpaper.

  • Okay there are so many jinxes. So some of you owe me a coke. 🙂

  • davefragments

I like the little fiddly bits on the roofs of buildings. It gives the city character.

  • They’re apparently at a more remote harbour area of the city, but the police or any hero team around is -no MUST – be about to show up. If the gun shots didn’t alert anyone in the area, a weird tornado would do… and most certainly after that BOOM as Mitch broke the sound wall. Such a boom is effing loud!

Help is coming for Diego, but I’m still very interested in how this ends for everyone. The option of discreet is way over due.

    • davefragments

I still think it ends with Cory blaming Mitch for everything that went wrong.

      • I hope not. If anything, I think he might start to blame himself, but I still hope not.

        • davefragments

You are asking someone who lost a brother to be logical and introspective. I think Cory wants to lash out. This sudden and rather startling acceleration might bring him out of his fugue state but he may still be in denial.

          • Especially all the stress he’s been under lately. I mean if we take into account the condition of his clothing when we first see Cory.

          • Michael

And the fact that he and Diego were talking about not going without food, and being able to afford shelter, after the burglary…

          • Right. It all adds up. One thing after another until this happens.

        • Klaus

If Diego dies, I don’t see how Cory could not blame himself.

          • bronakopdin

but he’s a teenager, too, at times they aren’t all that reasonable from the beginning, needs some time and agrument to sink in ^^’

    • Klaus

If they mention the destruction, change the subject.

    • Hopefully, Mitch won’t get into too much trouble??? Ahh, poor kid probably will… Maybe his friends can convince the leaders otherwise? Or to ease up on any punishments?

  • YangYueLan

Yes, 4 O’s is exactly the number I use when describing what it sounds like when a jet breaks the sound barrier over the GGB.

  • Toli Bera

    Where’s the dead brother?

    • Shhh! He’s not dead yet. Let’s hope that continues.

However, Diego is right there in panel 1 😉

      • Michael

        He’s only mostly dead.

Where’s Miracle Max when you need him?

… in a world of superheroes, I wouldn’t be too surprised if he was an actual super with healing-other-people powers.

        • Klaus

Spooky, according to the prose stories.

      • Toli Bera

I feel like I should quote Miracle Max, but it’s 2am and I can’t seem to type correctly.

    • Tyler Griffin

      *Monty Python Voice*
      “I’m not dead Yet!.”

      • Toli Bera

        cue musical number.

  • David Welbourn

Loving the artwork in this storyline. Sorry, Mitch, I know you’re busy, but just look at the art!

  • Starfighter just updated.

    • And with a lovely page too. But I can’t wait for the next page of that comic either; it’s at a really good part of the story too!

  • Airboy Obsessed

so which one gets the fine for the mass amount of criminal littering that just occurred into the water? xD

  • Jason Moon

Do his ears pop when he hits supersonic?

  • Jeldenil

Uh… I hope Kayla and Diego won’t get hit with all that debris. Or a forklift.

  • Kate G

So, who is getting the fine for the littering and for the city having to take a forklift out of the harbor?

Hopefully Mitch going supersonic knocked Cory out of his psychosis. That’s a lot of g’s to be hit with. Literally.

  • bronakopdin

Hopefully this will stop the tornado! And hopefully they can get Diego out of the falling debris without any further harm to him 🙁
for now I’m curious whether Cory is still out of it or whether the sudden movement might have brought him back to consciousness?
we’ll see on the next page!!!

Oh, and Mitch is just awesome… just to state the obvious xD

  • Nate

    And now… THE CUDDLES!

Lovely page, Alex, Adam, and veronica.

  • Columbine

Hmmm worried about Diego being left with a bunch of criminals who don’t have much reason to help him and a gunshot wound. I hope they can get him to a hospital quickly.

    • Keneu

Kanya is there, isn’t she? She should be able to stop them – if she sticks to Mitch’s plan, that is.

      • Klaus

Why would she? She works for the people he was trying tro rob.

        • Keneu

          That’s a good point.

        • Tyler Griffin

But she still wasn’t going to kill him right out back before he got shot. Kanya has been trying to de-escalate this situation from the moment she got her gun.

  • Pikinanou

  • I’m usually a pretty patient reader, but with this cliffhanger… AHH the suspense!!! Can’t wait to see what happens next!

  • Shinashi

    Now he’s deaf? XD

  • joshsusser

BOOOOM! Good to see Flyboy survived that maneuver. But it looks like the cyclone is open at the top (I looked back at previous pages), so why didn’t he fly up, over the top, and down through the eye? Even with his super vision he couldn’t tell there was an opening at the top? I’m willing to believe there’s a good reason, but with so much dialog and explanation going on, it’s odd that Mitch wouldn’t mention that option and why it wouldn’t work.

    • Zsebaoth-senpai

Maybe it was so high that the low temperatures would make him unable to focus in flight since it seems he has some form of specialized form of telekinesis

      • Gaël Cassetari

The point was to carry the debris away with him as well.

    • This was a bit tricky to show with 2D art but Cory/Diego and Mitch/Kanya were in different places in terms of the rings of flying debris.

Cory/Diego were in the innermost ring — it was the true “eye of the storm” — and it was clear above their heads.

Outside that innermost ring, there was a ring of clear space, and then another spinning ring of debris. Mitch/Kanya (and the mobsters Mitch saved) were in that clear space — between the innermost ring of flying debris and an outer ring of flying debris. This area was relatively safe (compared to standing in the main rings of flying debris), but it was still pretty wild and, as well as the debris in front of and behind them, there was flying debris above their heads (which is what Mitch struck when he first tried to get Kanya out of there.)

I think Adam did a fantastic job of translating my intentions here into comics art, but it was an ambitious thing to try to show with sequential art, and it would certainly be a lot more clear as a big, special-effects movie. 😉

      • joshsusser

OK, I can see that now. The top panel on page 27 shows the inner and outer rings with Mitch&Kanya in the gap, and the dialog on 28 says they couldn’t get through the outer ring. I guess what we couldn’t see was whether that inter-ring gap was open on the top, but it seems it must not have been 🙂 I agree this would be a pretty great scene in a movie. Kickstarter time?

  • I’m so glad I waited for a load of pages to be uploaded before I got back into reading this comic again. So great to reread it all! XD Mostly, I think I’m just glad that this semester is about to end. ^^’

Flyboy’s story is really gripping and it’s awesome we have the chance to get to know him on a personal level, rather than see him as a side character. I’m glad he’s pulled through! Hopefully he can pull through the attack from the Platinum Priestess, once we return to that storyline.

Can’t wait to see more this coming holiday season!

  • Klaus

I am going to get a birthday page this year. Please don’t kill anyone on page 39.

  • SchalaRenee

Mitch performed a Sonic Rainboom! I’d love it if rainbows were shooting out of his ass.

…yes, a My Little Pony reference. I feel so ashamed.

  • purplefoxglove

Alright, this is probably a very stupid question, especially so since Alex just wrote that Mitch *was* able to grab Cory, but…on this page and the last one, isn’t Alex using the conjunctive? Meaning that what we’re seeing is a what-if scenario: “IF Mitch could get through to Cory, Mitch COULD get him”. I kept interpreting these last two pages as the possible best outcome of Mitch’s plan until I read Alex’ comment. Then again, English is not my mother tongue, so I am probably over-analysing.

    • Klaus

There is nothing wrong with your undestanding of English. However, I think it much more likely that we are showed the “if only” scenatio come true while Mitchel is voicing it.

      • Adam Black

        he fooled us once before

        • purplefoxglove

He’s a tricky one, that Alex.

      • purplefoxglove

That makes sense, thank you 🙂

*keeps fingers crossed that you are right*

  • Klaus

And will it be enough to save Diego?

  • Ninhursag

Waaaaaaaaa….So awesome, that’s some superhero shit right there!

    • Klaus

Not just a superhero, an awesomehero.

  • Megan Staples

Yay Mitch! Flyboy saves a friend! …I hope…

  • Pinkfeiry

    well that went surprisingly well

  • Adam Black

I realize some other people are happy never going back to the main character.
but there is only so long the heart can wait. Ive put in my time. ;( Im sorry.

When we left our “real hero” , in “real time” it was do or die, stick a needle in your Eye; we dont even know if he’ll make it out alive.
I realize some of you like this Tween story better, so I have to have to say i am going to miss you. All. You have forgotten His Plight

I think its been 2 years since we’ve seen the Star of The Show. Thats a Long time to wait. In Hell…..
    *********>>>> <<<<<>George Finnegan Eyeball<<<******, makes it back., then so will I .

From One Helllion to another ,

    I Bid adieu

    • Adam Black

( What did you seriously think I wouldn’t get in on this act ? )

Its been 2 weeks since Ive read any Disseffected ragequitiing Literature ,and I had to throw in my own fanfiction to the Mix )

  • Alex, I have to ask. I’ve seen several ads for TYP on several webcomics the last couple of months – and pretty much different ones on each comic/each week. You have a lot of fun making these little ads, coming up with the words/pun of each, don’t you? 😉

  • Klaus

So the effect that protects him from wind shear and the shock of breaking the sound barrier does not prevent the boom.

    • Tyler Griffin

Apparently not, although that kinda makes sense, it doesn’t prevent the boom, but presumably it protects him from the effects of the boom

      • davefragments

Yes, he’s like a motorcyclist speeding around on a buggy night. Every once in a while one of the bugs splatters over the wrong part of his anatomy.

    • davefragments

I can’t explain more than this right now. I have friends visiting.
However, wind shear is wind form different directions and wouldn’t affect him.
A sonic boom is sort of like the transition from laminar flow to turbulent in water. The moving object doesn’t feel it.

      • Klaus

Maybe shear is not the correct term. But he still ned protection from the air at the speed he moves, even before he breaks the sound barrier.

  • Doki will not be camping tonight. Doki has been once again visited by CFH (cramps from hell) and needs to spend time in bed and try to pretend her stomach is not trying to kill her. Have fun camping and good luck hunting!

    • davefragments

You take care. We will all give Mitch a kiss and hug for you.
      wink, wink

    • jreed3842

*hugs* Hope the CFH’s don’t stick around for too long!

      • Thanks, but they have been getting longer…

        • stickfigurefairytales

Is there any way you could get checked out by a doctor? Cramps that severe can often be a sign of some pretty serious stuff.

          • It wouldn’t be so bad if I could still take Midol, but taking them as directed messes with my heart.

    • Oof. That sounds awful! I hope I can catch you on the next camp!

      • That would be nice. I have finished everything I needed to get and am heading out now.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Poor Doki! I hope you feel better soon!

  • Hello Campers!!

    • jreed3842

Jreed3842 reporting for camping!! How’s the Admiral doing today?

      • Hi Jreed! I’m doing okay. Dinner is in the oven and my feet are up.

        • jreed3842

I just had dinner! Since I can’t cook it was just chicken nuggets and mac and cheese…. But I enjoyed it!
What are you having for dinner?

          • Parm fish and acorn squash.

Cooking is pretty easy. Most of what I do is off the seat of my pants.

          • jreed3842

Sounds yummy! I hope you enjoy it!

          • Me too!

    • Hello! This is my first time camping out here. Ooh~, I’m excited! Btw, SF just updated. 😉

      • I’ll have to check that out!!

Oh and welcome to camp! Enjoy the bonfire. There are coolers with anything you could want, plus tables and tables of everything else (though no goat, goat is forbidden *looking at you Mr. Dangerfield*).

        • Oh! Thank you! (I feel like there’s a story to go along with the exclusion of goat.)

          • Certain members keep trying to sacrifice goats around here. They thought since the crazy magic users had done so (in the comic) that so could they and that camp was the place to do it. But since I like goats… goat is off the menu 🙂

          • Oh, I see~. Well, as interested as I am in such things, I will refrain from touching any goats. 😉 I shall enjoy my greens instead!

          • I appreciate it. 😀 Actually it’s mostly Mr. Dangerfield. *grumble grumble*

But there is pretty much every other delicacy to be found at camp. S’mores are usually offered first.

          • S-S-Smo~res… 8D *drools*

          • The fixings are just to your left!

      • Bunny! *purrs*

        • Kitty! *happy grunts while hopping over w/smore is mouth*
We get to camp together again! <3

    • Saxon_Brenton

Hello from a drizzly Sydney afternoon.

      • You’re welcome to send some of that rain here. Though not too much. 🙂

    • Michael

      Howdy howdy howdy!

      • Hallo!

        • Michael

How are you? Had a good week?

          • SS;DD for me. 🙂

          • Michael

Samantha sang; Derrin didn’t? Sounds like an old episode of Bewitched.

I was having a good day, but then I turned on the television, and now I’m sad. 🙁

          • Same shit; different day. 🙂

            Yeah, bad news day.

          • davefragments

No, not the same shit but the worst event to happen in Paris since WW2. 200 injured, 80 of the very serious, over 120 dead, 8 terrorist and of them 7 were suicide bombers. Six places in Paris. This is the worst ever in the Western countries.

          • Michael

            Yes, that. It’s absolutely terrible.

          • davefragments

            yes, it’s a sad day.

          • Well, I meant here, for me. Else where. That’s… that’s awful. And people need to stop being such sicks to each other. there is no excuse for this behavior.

          • davefragments

Sorry, I’ve been listening to the Paris event since mid-afternoon.

          • Life is such a complicated mess for the world.

          • Michael

My week up to around 11:00 this morning was just peachy. That’s the time that I got back from helping to instruct kids kung fu, and turned on the telly.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’m much the same. So terrible… I don’t understand how people can do such awful things.

I’m also worried about one of my friends on tumblr who is French, although I don’t know if she’s from Paris or not. I’m desperately hoping that the reason she hasn’t been on is because she doesn’t feel like dealing with something so frivolous at the moment, and not because anything happened to her or one of her loved ones.

          • Michael

            Hope your friend is okay.

We’ve been getting live footage on the news sites, it doesn’t look pretty.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Thank you. I don’t think I can manage to watch the live footage, although I am reading updates periodically.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I am extremely relieved to report that I have now heard from my friend and she is fine – she does not live in Paris so she and all of her loved ones are okay, at least.

          • Michael

            Awesome! Good to hear.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hello Admiral!

  • davefragments

    I made it.
Dinner done. Friends gone home. Time to relax and wait for a nice update.
    How’s everyone doing.

    • Stuffing my face at the moment 🙂

      • davefragments

I just baked a couple chicken thighs and some potatoes while watching the news.

        • Depressing day.

          • davefragments

yes, and the descriptions that are coming out now are worse than you can imagine. It’s almost not good to listen to the news.

          • Yup.

  • Hi all,
Haven’t slept yet (been up watching the news), so don’t know how much longer I’ll last. Will try to stay awake at least until the page is up. Very eager to see what will happen next.
Starfighter just updated too, and Wish & Will updated a few hours ago. So there’s a couple things to check out while camping.

    • This is a very eventful evening with all the updates. Not too happy about the news, though. 🙁 Every TV’s showing what’s happened in France.

      • davefragments

We are usually a bit more vocal.

      • stickfigurefairytales

It is utterly horrifying and heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

  • Oki, who’s having fun with Alex’ pledge amount on Patreon’s new ‘test’ version of showing pledges? That amount seems too precise to be a coinsidence – and this time it’s not me who likes my number to be even xD

    • Saxon_Brenton

[checks Patreon page] Oh yeah. That is pretty funky.
[frowns] And it’s back under ‘Alex can quit his day job’ levels! Grr!

      • I wondered a LOT about the drop in pledge amount, until I read that it’s a test version where they show the final amount – with failed pledges and fees withdrawn. It still feels low though.
I don’t like it. Makes it harder to tell wether or not the pledges has reached an actual milestone, because only Alex can see the amount incl. fees and such :-/

  • stickfigurefairytales

Oh, so Mitch is going to go put Cory in the Time Out corner!

    • But which corner is the time out corner?

      • stickfigurefairytales

I dunno. Cory kind of wrecked the warehouse so I’m guessing they ran out of corners in there. Mitch probably has to find a new one.

      • Tyler Griffin

        Which corner is still standing?

        • Good question and why I suggested the ocean. No corners to destroy.

    • davefragments

I thought about that. Does he put Mitch down and go back for Diego or does he have some discussion with Mitch?

      • stickfigurefairytales

My first guess was that he’d drop Cory in some water to try and shock him out of his superpowered freakout trance, but I don’t know.

  • Today has been such a sad and weird day. The Paris and other country tragedies going on 🙁

In my city we have a huge coulée (valley with a river at the bottom) that divides the city and two bridges to get across. BOTH were blocked by fatal accidents St the same time tonight…

    *crawls into bed*

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Oh dear…

    • davefragments

Terrible… Those kind of traffic jams take hours and hours to clear up.

    • Damn, that’s not good. There was a big car accident around Copenhagen here too, but felt as ‘nothing’ compared to anything else on the news. It’s been Paris and the horrors there all night (my time), but though it’s not been mentioned much there’s also been a big earthquake in Japan and two bigger terror attacks in the middle east earlier today – incl. one in Lebanon that has killed 40+ people.
This has NOT been a good friday the 13th 🙁

      • stickfigurefairytales

I talked to my sister in Japan and she says that things do not seem to have been very bad on that front – there was reportedly a small tsunami that hit certain parts of the coast, but as far as I have heard there do not seem to have been any fatalities. I just wish I could say the same for the terrible manmade things that have happened today.

        • Good to know the tsunami warning at least doesn’t seem to be that bad. A 7.0 earthquake was more than enough on that front.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’m still not sure what exactly qualifies as a “small” tsunami.

    • Tyler Griffin

Terror Attacks in France, KKK Rallies held openly in public venues at American Colleges, A “Freedom of Religion” Conference held in North Carolina with three of our presidential candidates in attendance where a death sentence for homosexuals was advocated, further Terror Attacks in the Middle East, I know I’m forgetting something. Melancholy day for sure. But we’ll see it through. Better days shall come, for those of us who love peace and liberty shall not give up.

  • Niggle

Wow, things sure got intense while I wasn’t reading.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Good to see you, Niggle!

  • davefragments

    parteon sign

    • Saxon_Brenton

Thank you Dave. And as a generic and probably non-spoilery comment, I’ll just note that he didn’t even have to knock him unconscious by sucking the air out of his lungs while pretending to kiss him.

  • davefragments
