I sense some doubt in your voice, Kanya…

So, Flyboy’s just going to try to charge right through the tornado of deadly debris. Can he do it and live? Will he be able to get Cory? And if he does, will that save the city? Or will it just lead to more trouble?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • DonnaC

    He’s really brave

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Nice job, Donna!

  • davefragments

He’s going to try and I hope he succeeds.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Happy birthday to DanishWolf! I’m so glad that you are one of our mods, and I wish you lots of happiness!

    • davefragments

      Happy Birthday DanishWolf!

  • stickfigurefairytales

Mitch’s idea about the debris gave me a mental picture of him getting hit by things and repeatedly going, “Ow! …I mean to do that.” Which was far more hilarious that the situation is actually likely to be.

I’m also wondering how Mitch is going to attempt to explain away his numerous injuries to his teammates the following day.

    • davefragments

I think that he might end up a big lumpy pile of garbage streaking through the air. That’s going to be an interesting sighting for those conspiracy and alien theorists.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Na na na na na na KATAMARI DAMACY!!

        • davefragments

I never played those games but I understand the reference.

  • Cydney Sabin

  • Happy Birthday Danish!

And Kanya…..BRAVE not stupid. Brave and adorable and precious and the bestest best ever.

    • stickfigurefairytales

And full of shining goodness with occasional slightly flawed judgment.

    • Tyler Griffin

Eh, I’m voting for equal parts both.

      • Shush you

        • Tyler Griffin

LoL. I’m already on the Doki’s “To Be Punished” list, what more can I do to myself.

          • Not make things worse? 😛

          • Tyler Griffin

I think I tried the Easy Way once, it was boring.

          • Too true….

  • … Of course.

That’s also a way to look at the possibility of not getting killed. Mitch seems acceptive that it could be a result if he’s wrong.

    • DonnaC

      Happy, happy, happy Birthday.

    • Happy B-Day D-chan (っ=́з=̀)っ✿

    • purplefoxglove

      *small voice*

      Happy very belated, Danish!

  • Don’t get killed Mitch! That is an order. *Admiral stare*

    Oh! Happy Birthday DanishWolf!!

    • stickfigurefairytales

She’s an admiral, Mitch! She outranks you, so you have to do what she says!

      • That’s right dammit!!

      • Klaus

If a Commander can’t control him, I doubt that even an admiral can.

  • TwilightDreamer

    Please be careful Flyboy!

  • Thank you, Alex, and the rest of you 😀
It’s been quite an awesome day. Spent it on a long company day trip that involded shopping, dinner and a very funny show. They did sing a birthday song for me during the bustrip. Now my tired self must go back to sleep. I just woke up randomly, and needed/wanted to check for new page before going back to sleep. Page must have beeen calling sine I only got to bed an hour ago xD

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Sleep well, Danish!

    • Tyler Griffin

*restaurant style clapping* Happy Happy Birthday, we’re really glad you came!”

    • Keneu

Happy late birthday! And happy not-birthday for the rest of the year. 😀

    • Happy belated birthday wishes! Good to hear you had a great day 🙂

Pretty funny to think the new page was calling you in your dreams 😛

  • I wonder if dropping him IN the ocean would snap him out of it.

    • Tyler Griffin

Just install him as the fountain feature at the next major Las Vega casino opening

  • davefragments

Finally finally finally, the painters finished painting the outside of my house between their odd work hours and rain and some cold, I thought they you;d never finish.
Finally — me, the squirrels, the deer, a groundhog, chipmunk, the turkeys and the rabbits can be in peace once again!

    • Yaaaaaaayyy!

      • davefragments

        Yes, yes, yes!

    • Kate G

      YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Peace at last!

    • purplefoxglove

That…sounds like you are some kind of Disney princess 😉

Glad that you have some peace and quiet again 🙂

      • davefragments

Honestly, Do I look like a Disney princess with that five o-clock shadow?

        That made me laugh.

        • purplefoxglove

Well, if I tilt my head and squint my eyes… 😉

  • Nate

To quote one of the great comic book runs of the 20th century:

“The trouble with godhood is that it robs you of your finer judgment! And that is why we will never be the same. You are a mighty fighter, but in the end, you are only a selfish creature, while heroes…heroes have an infinite capacity for stupidity! Thus are legends born!”

    • davefragments

      You’re invoking Jormundgander and Ragnarok?

      • Nate

Actually, I’m invoking Walter Simonson. But close enough. 😉

    • Klaus

To quote another great comic, tragically unfinished: “The Imis had a word for hero. It was the same word they used for fool. This is the story of how Odkin became a hero.” (Backtranslated by me from the Danish translation.)

  • jreed3842

    Omg! Danish, it’s your birthday?!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You’re the best! I hope your birthday is as wonderful as you are!! 😀

  • Hours Left

    Happy Birthday to DanishWolf. 🙂

Interesting that Mitch’s ability to carry other objects is based on his perception, not necessarily just physical contact. Implies that his powers are psychologically based. (If his theory is correct that is.)

  • davefragments

    I had a thought:
I don’t think Kanya is going to stay there because no one ever does the sensible thing in these situations. Think of all the horror films where someone looks behind them or into a room that has the evil thing.

  • Fabulous Alien

I love how Mitch is all selfless and heroic… A superhero indeed!

Also, I can’t help be reminded of one of my favorite Harry Potter lines: “Harry then did something that was both very brave and very stupid.”

  • Jeldenil

    Grattis, Danish!

Bravery and stupidity often seem to go hand in hand. Let’s just say we all worry for Doki’s baby.

    • He is such a precious baby.

    • purplefoxglove

Gosh, I’m not quite awake yet – for one moment, I thought you were talking about a literal baby, and I was like “What? When did Doki get a baby? What did I miss? How COULD I MISS THIS!? And what’s wrong with the child???”. Then, I realised you were talking about Flyboy. D’oh!

      • Jeldenil

Bahaha! And now I imagine Doki naming a future baby Flyboy.

        • purplefoxglove

In my defence, I kept getting early happy birthday messages. I’m a student, dang it! I’m still asleep at 7 in the morning!

…but each one made me happy, anyway 😀

        • Mitch or Michelle

  • David Welbourn

This is reminding me of John Byrne’s take on Superman, and more specifically on Superman’s counterpart in the Marvel Universe: Gladiator. Byrne pitted Mr Fantastic vs Gladiator, and Gladiator’s ability to pick up a building by the corner and not have the building crumble convinced Reed that Gladiator was using something other than just raw strength. Evidently Mitch thinks his own power might be a psi thing too.

And I’ve long thought of Flyboy as also partly inspired by Superman, just with a smaller power set, and The Annihilator getting some of Superman’s other powers. Neither of them got heat vision or super-breath, but between the two of them, they do seem to cover most of Supes’ powers.

And now I kinda want to see fan art of Flyboy and Annihilator having a Lois Lane vs Lana Lang style catfight while Kyle watches with a bemused look on his face.

    • Klaus

The Annihilator is very similar to the original Superman. ” Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound”. Flying, X-ray vision etc. came later.

  • Connor

No better time to put theory into practice.

Except, you know, any other time when you’re NOT in a life-threatening situation.

  • Aitsuki

Lady, this is partly your fault too, so just shut up….. Mitch is trying to save the city!

  • Saxon_Brenton

    Obligatory happy birthday to Danish.

The debris are rotating in both directions? Woah. There’d been speculation about that, but getting confirmation gives a sense of Cory’s power. Not so much in terms of carrying capacity (the forklifts and trucks that were on the previous pages were proof enough of that) but in terms of finesse. If he’d just created a massive TK whirlwind to scoop up everything, that would be one thing. But if he’s got things counter-rotating, then he must have picked up everything individually. I mean, even if we handwave that the manipulation be simplified to the ultimate extent – by creating two conical walls of TK force and sticking the debris onto one or the other – it still means picking up all the bits individually. And it only gets worse if every bit of debris is picked up individually and then carried about on its own orbital path.

    • I was part of that rotation talk, and guess in this case the ‘dress’ was was both blue and white 😉
Guess the double spin makes sense since Cory’s mind is a chaos without sense and logic at the moment.

  • Klaus

In the immortal words of Marigold Farmer: can it be both?

  • Klaus

Tillykke DanishWolf! So your birthday and mine falls on the same day of the week.

  • Klaus

My answer to Alex’ questions: all of the above.

  • Sanbai
  • Dennis Grace

In my experience, most extreme acts are classified after the fact and almost entirely according to the results: failure is classified as true result of rashness or stupidity (“Why didn’t he realize…” or “”What the hell was he thinking?”) ; success is equally adjudged wise and heroic (“Amazing that anyone could realize, so quickly…” or just “Courage under Fire: that’s what we expect from a true hero.”) So yes, it is both brave and stupid until we open the box marked results.
    Schroedingers Hero.

    • Klaus

Schroedingers Hero. That is a great expression.

    • Michael

Flying through Schroedinger’s Hurricane, which is whirling simultaneously clockwise and anticlockwise.

      • Tyler Griffin

It’s just confused ok, it hasn’t figured out what it like yet.

  • Brave *and* stupid. But mostly brave. 🙂

  • BTW, read your e-mail about why the “bonus comics” and wanted to shoot you a note to say that I LOVE this one. I did feel a little filler-y feel about Truth or Dare, but it had its fun moments. However, this? I love the hell out of the backstory comic. It doesn’t feel like a “bonus” at all as much as a story that I wanted to read. So thank you for sharing it <3

    • Thank you, Heather, for letting me know how much you’re enjoying this comic. It means a lot to me. 🙂

  • Saxon_Brenton

Waitaminute waitaminute waitaminute! I just thought of something.

Back in chapter 3, when the team was flying off to find Team Silver, Flyboy kept dropping the plane. Was that because he was distracted, or because he stopped touching the plane’s controls? (Its definitely the later case on page 42, but the art doesn’t show what he’s doing with his hands on page 37)

If it was because he took his hands off the wheel, then that’s a problem, because it indicates that he has to be touching something with his bare flesh in order to fly it. Because otherwise he should have still been able to fly the plane by the contact he had with it through his boots. And that means that if Flyboy is going to pull this plan off, he’ll need to have the flying debris striking his bare flesh in order to match their velocity to his.

Oh dear crap on a stick, this is gonna be like Red Hot’s fight against Killer in Hong Kong, isn’t it? He’s gonna have to fight in the nud. If only we had the powers cards from the kickstarter, to know how Flyboy’s powers work…

    • Klaus
      • Saxon_Brenton

        Yup. That’ll do as a counter-argument.

        • Klaus

Maybe he did not touch the floor of the plane. He can only lift such heavy things when he is flying. Maybe he needs to be clear of the floor to convince himself that he is flying. That would also explain why he did not just sit in the car at the start of chapter two.

    • Tyler Griffin

So, what we need now is a naked Flyboy? I’m game, we might aught to call up the censors though, gonna need a few stickers from them 😛

  • bronakopdin

I guess all I’m able to do now is pray even though I’m not believing in any god…..x’D

If Kanya hadn’t said that I’d be the one >_>’

  • Pikinanou

Aw, come on, I’m sure it works. It’s like that Twister movie but better 😀

  • Nate

I may be missing something obvious, but…

Why doesn’t Mitch just fly straight up? The debris field looks to be moving mostly two-dimensionally, so directly overhead should be safer.

    • Tyler Griffin

Well, He tried up previously with Kanya and took a crate tot he shoulder, so guess he’s a little gun shy of that direction atm.

      • Nate

The thing is, I looked at that scene again, and it looked to me like he was traveling in an arc, not straight up. I just checked the script though, and you’re right.

  • MoonByte

Lady, is that really a snarky comment when this guy is the one that saves YOUR life?

    Wow, what an attitude xD

  • TwoWayStar

Happy Birthday Danish!! 😀 I see your presence in a lot of the comment sections of comics I read and it’s always pleasant to see your thoughts on things.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

  • Again, thank you all, for the birthday wishes. I had a great day 🙂

    • Nate

      Happy belated birthday, DW.

  • Does anyone still manage TV-Tropes for TYP? There must be a “really brave or really stupid” trope somewhere…

  • Dave Nguyen

    He can be both

  • Jason Moon

    I love Kanya’s assessment. Isn’t that ALWAYS the way….?

If this were a was movie, this would be the point where Flyboy screams “Cover me!” over his shoulder as he wades into the mess.

  • Kate G

You know, it’s the really brave/really stupid people that get shit done in this life, okay lady? So stand where you are and SHUT UP.

Eh, @alexwoolfson:disqus the eye of the tornado is where Cory is. Hurricanes and tornadoes are slightly different in how they form, but their anatomy is the same. They calmest part is the eye, which is located at the center of the funnel (not outside.) Cory and Kanya are outside in the debris field, which is the most violent area. So, I’m confused? Where exactly are they?

    • Klaus

This is not a tornado. It is powered not by wind, but by Cory. Things are moving in both directions. Why it has an “eye” off to one side, only Alex knows. And possibly Cory, but I think not.

    • Tyler Griffin

Is it possible that their are two rings of debri? ON spinning clock-wise and the other counter clockwise? If that’s the case and Mitch and Kanya are in the center between the two, there might be a calm ring between them, although calling it the “eye” still isn’t quite accurate of mith’es part, if that’s the case

      • They are indeed between two rings of debris right now. And there is debris flying over their heads right now as well.

        • Kate G

Aaaaaaaah, I understand now. It’s hard to tell in illustrations, then you combine it with my literal Autism (plus having lived/living in two states of Tornado Alley) and it’s like, “Wha? I’m confused. I’m very, very confused.”

Clearly I knew it was supernatural, but supernatural can mimic real life tornadoes or make up their own laws. This is why it’s great that this comic is online so I can ask when my brain can’t resolve itself. Thanks Alex for solving my quandary!

        • Tyler Griffin

Oh yay! I think this is the first time I’ve guessed correctly! although that image isn’t exactly how I had it pictured in my mind at the time, I think I see it now.

          • Tyler Griffin

Although, it’s a pity I had to be drunk to channel accurate insight 😛

  • Pinkfeiry

    i brotp them so hard

    • Since they’ll be moree than that, the ‘br’ of that otpcould be left out 😉

      • Tyler Griffin

I relly need to order that poster sometime when I have some spare cash. Is it available online? I always forget to look for Alex’s online store

        • At the moment they’re sold at cons only, but a good load of posters is on the way for online sale in the new year. Some showing the things we won’t see in the comic: some NSFW, some that portraits a cannon thing and some that shows fandom pairings (like the pairings a vote in the KS got us).
At YaoiCon, I think Alex had around 10 new posters and some postcards that you can’t find online yet, but they must be coming 🙂

      • Pinkfeiry

That’s GREAT… but i was talking about Mitch and the woman cop.

        • LOL… Well, no posters there 😉

          • Well, if there’s interest, anything is possible… 😉

  • Klaus

    It is meteoroillogical!.

  • Toli Bera

    Why Not Both? *Mariachi music*

    • Tyler Griffin

Ah! Thank you for that reference, perfect. You win today, sir.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

I’ve been brave when I needed to and stupid…..just seems to follow like a lost puppy….but if you carefully combine the two ….stupid doesn’t win out!

  • Derkins

she said it not me >.>

  • Tyler Griffin

I forget who mentioned it below, but the image of the things that collide with Mitch sticking to him as his powers “grab” them is really amusing. I kinda REALLY want to see a big MitchDebriBall flying through the air now. Does that count as armor?

    • Reyos Blackwood

If it works mitch wouldn’t need armor, he’d be bulltproof already, all he has to do is decide to carry the bullets.

    • Wasn’t that a video game? Well, without the adorable Mitch?

  • Klaus

For the Starfighter readers: there are two new pages.

  • Grumble grumble grumble. I hate the time change.

  • tailess

Lady, no offense, but what you did was pretty stupid too

  • H-man

He flies faster than 200 though, he can just match pace with the tornado and merge with it slowly, like crossing a highway.
