The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Flyboy Bonus Comic—Page 26

196 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Flyboy Bonus Comic—Page 26

Well, there goes the roof…

I’ll be tabling at a convention in Austin, TX this weekend. 🙂 I will be at the Webcomic Rampage, along with even cooler webcomic creators, including T.J. and Amal‘s creator E.K. Weaver!

I’ll have Artifice books and advance copies of The Young Protectors books and some very special new, sexy prints and cards. If you’re nearby, please stop by and say hello!

So! Looks like Flyboy was able to keep Kanya safe from the safe. And he was even able to get the unconscious mobsters clear of the flying debris. But Cory’s power just blew the whole roof off the place. Is there anywhere really safe from this telekinetic storm of fury?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

If you particularly enjoy any of these pages and use Facebook, please click the Like button on that page. It’s useful to know what’s working and it helps me get the word out!
  • Mitch <3

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hey, nice job, Doki!

      • ^_^ It has been past time for me to get one. ^_^

        • stickfigurefairytales

Darn right! Especially with all of the glorious Mitch-ness in this.

          • Yeah, I think the patreon updates give an advantage. So this is very lucky.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            *giant hug of celebration*

          • *hugs* I am still in 5th place so all is good.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            What’s my current total?

          • Nine

  • Oh look, the safe door!

    • 3 more and you tie with Sapfo. 4 more and you pass her.

    • Yes, I seem to recall @stickfigurefairytales:disqus noticing on the last page that it was about the only thing still intact… Well, there goes THAT.

  • davefragments

And the whole thing comes crashing down.
    Figuratively as well as physically.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Random thought: We know that Cory has power (not only is he picking up a lot of stuff right now, but earlier when he tore open the wall to get inside he took out several steel reinforcement rods). What I’m wondering is how much range he has. I have this sudden horrible image of the maelstrom spreading out and just shredding a whole city block, or more.

Also, is it too much to hope that Cory is not so adept with his TK that he can only keep the debris rotating in one direction and at more or less one speed? That might give Flyboy the chance to dodge.

  • Miri

Mitch needs to say or do something to help Cory start dealing with some of that pain in a less destructive manner :-/ Poor lad!

  • stickfigurefairytales

Mitch put them all in a people pile! 🙂

  • Danny

Does anyone else think that the guy Mitch has by the scruff of the neck in the middle panel looks like Ivan? Because if it is, I can’t help but wonder why he would save him.

Also, hi! I’m not dead! But life is keeping me almost too busy to sleep, so I’ve been looking at pages & running…

    • stickfigurefairytales

I did think that for a moment, but that guy is definitely wearing different clothes.

      • Klaus

Take a look at page 7. Those are the poker players.

    • Kate G

Ivan is panel 2, and he’s being held in Mitch’s left hand by his shirt.

  • Sapfo

Corys powers are scary, but Mitch? Is this really the time to add to your people collection?

    • Morning Sapfo sweet! And there is always time to add to one’s people collection. ^_^

  • Jason Moon

What happens when Cory rips open some power or gas lines?

    • Power – sizzle sizzle spark sizzle

Gas – odd smell and people need to be careful about lighting things

      Both? – BOOOOOOOOM

  • I will ‘up’ Mitch’s comment on last page from ‘Oh Crap’ to ‘Oh effing shit!’

And that’s all I have time to really say, must run for bus now. Actually sit with my coat on, but had to do one last check to see if my internet was back so I wouldn’t have to wait 10 hours to read the page.

  • Toli Bera

Now who’s gonna clean that up? :/

  • Alex, that’s so cool that you get to table with E.K. Weaver. Conventions always sound like fun, I wish I were there!

    • She’s a sweetheart and the rest of the group of creators are very cool. I always look forward to this one. 🙂

      • Dennis Grace

Dragon’s Lair is less than a mile east of my house. I keep meaning to get to one of these things. Is there a cover charge?

BTW, brilliant layout on this page. Really captures the four, fractured essence of disaster. Love it.

        • The convention is free of charge. You should totally stop by! 🙂

And I’m really glad you like the page!

  • Jeldenil

Uhm. Yeah. Calming him down is going to be a challenge. This is not a good time for a first kiss.

  • bronakopdin

Mitch sure is awesome to manage all the rescues in those circumstances… yet the mainpart will be to get through to Cory… litterally and emotionally… :/

  • Columbine

    Whelp that looks expensive.

  • TwilightDreamer

lol, love the way he just tosses her gun to the side…nicely done 😛

    • TheManBehindTheCurtain

Actually she isn’t holding a gun in the first frame. Alex needs to add that.

      • Klaus

Flyboy took it from her a few pages ago.

      • John Blue

Indeed, like Klaus said, Flyboy has the gun. It’s in his hand in the first frame. Edit: and that, I believe, is the gun of that guy who shot the guy-who-can-will-the-building-down’s bro.

  • Pikinanou

Kanya better have a change of career after this. She is so lucky to still be alive and unharmed, at this point… Hey, maybe (and it’s just a suggestion Alex :P) she could make a come back in the main story where she’d help our heroes somehow? I know I’d love to see her again.

    • dereule101

Heck, even just an attitude change. See what happens when you go all cocky vigilante? Same to you, Flyboy!

    • Kanya has been keeping secret tabs on Mitch and has been helping him regain consciousness so he can help his friends. Or pull him out of things to save his life…..

  • The roof, the roof, the roof is in pieces.

    • Sanbai

We don’t need no water, let the mother-effer…break…?

  • Matt Lovinski

Actually not that means anything but doesn’t Kanya look like commanders mother? I know its not a big thing but I’ve been thinking it since I first saw the character..

    • Sanbai

      Ehhhh…Not seein’ it, myself…

    • Klaus

      It’s the uniform.

  • It’s almost as if Cory is creating a singularity.

  • dereule101

Woohoo context-sensitive layout design 😀 I love the crazy shapes of the panels on this page!

  • Tyler Griffin

Plot Twist/Tinfoil Hat Theory: Alex is keeping it hush-hush, but this is secretly the story of how Mitch gets his first kiss. 😉

  • davefragments

I think that page 27 will be as emotionally destructive to Mitch and the others as this page is physically destructive.

    • I think physical too. That warehouse will be in piece by the looks of it.

      • davefragments

This is one of those “I dread it” pages.

  • YangYueLan

damn, time got away from me again. 🙁
Anyway! Wow, this is an impressive page. The perspective is amazing.

  • davefragments

“Showboat” by Kern and Hammerstein on PBS Great Performances tonight. It’s nice to listen to the music.
    It was, by coincidence, a 1927 premiere… “27” …

  • stickfigurefairytales

I’m pretty tired tonight – gonna try to make it until the new page is up, but no guarantees.

    • Glad to have you here for however long you’re here!

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Aw, thank you! <3

    • davefragments

Hi, It’s getting cold down here must be colder up there.

    • davefragments

I just read that you have a Monet Exhibit at the museum. I absolutely love Monet.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Yes, the gardens exhibit! Not just Monet, but featuring him prominently. I’ve got tickets to go when my siblings are home for Christmas. 😀

        • davefragments

I might go just to see Monet. Back in the mid 1980’s I saw the Picasso Exhibit at MOMA in New York. I’d love to see Monet.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Ooh, if you do come, you should stop by and say hello! We can hang out!

          • davefragments

            I thought of that.

  • *waves at everyone* in and out watching the Jays / Royals game and getting some packages ready for the mail 😉

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hey Starr!

      • Hello! Glad to be back and having a Friday off for once…

        • stickfigurefairytales

    • Howdy!

      • Long time no chat! XD missed everyone!!!

        • No kidding!!

Do tell, did ya happen to see David Cook in the crowd? He’s a big Royal’s fan.

    • davefragments

      hi there

    • *Hugs*

    • Have fun! I found out on Twitter that Stephen Amell (Arrow) is a Blue Jays fan, who attends some of their games.

  • Morgan

Ah! I actually made it to camp. 🙂

    • davefragments

      yay for you

    • Woot!

    • stickfigurefairytales

  • I found that Jurassic World was better the second time through. Though, I will say, I think it would have been pretty damn good had the genders been switched on the two main characters.

    • davefragments

I thought about getting it tonight. I’m dithering about spending that much money on it.

      • It’s entertaining. Chris Pratt was Chris Pratt. And the dinos were pretty cool

        • davefragments

The outside of my house is getting painted. They put the color on tomorrow. The question is — do I want to be up late. They had to ring my phone and wake me up Wednesday and Thursday because I was sleeping when they need in my garage.

          • Good point. Well I will say I didn’t think the bad guy got it bad enough. I wanted to punch him so badly and he deserved a really really horrible demise.

          • davefragments

Well I did it. They don’t have to wake me up tomorrow. They hid my ladder. BTW — Primer comes in the ugliest off-white colors.
And about the movie — oooh, teen love at the beginning.

          • Yay for not being woken up! Just hope you still have a ladder after they’re done. o.O

          • davefragments

The company head is sort of an in-law and we aren’t auditioning for fifteen minutes of Judge Judy.

          • LOL! That’s good to know.

          • davefragments

OMG those things have claws bigger than my hands and I got big hands. I used to spawn an octave and a fifth on the piano.

          • Yup. They can stay on the other side of the tv thank you very much!

          • davefragments

And the birdies play with their food!
            YAY Birdies!!!!

          • Almost a little too much.

          • davefragments

And Auntie kisses the smelly, gasoline drenched guy who hasn’t showered in a week or two!

            It’s love at first sight!

          • haha! Well, it had been a clean shirt. Though she was in almost as big of a need of a shower.

  • ‘Morning from here. I made it. So tired I could sleep in the chair, but at least I have internet today. Woke up to none on the last page, and was fretting for an hour before going to work. Managed to see this page 2mins before going to work.
Now I’m trying to find the energy to stay awake, all while remembering that Alex is at a convention in Texas, so I probably could have set the clock for 30-60mins later – as I seem to remember this is one of the cons that continue late xD

    • Morning Danish

    • stickfigurefairytales

Good morning! Oh yeah, good point. I may not be up long enough for the new page either.

      • Well, it’s in Texas, so the timezone is two hour difference – making the time 10pm for Alex – but I remember reading that there was a panel at 9pm, and I think Alex will be at that one.
I know from earlier that some cons have meant that Alex hasn’t been around till somewhere between 5.30-7.30pm my time, depending on timezone, and this could be one of them.
*groans and yawn* Why didn’t I remember that, in my tired state last night, before setting the timer. I could have set it till now /headdesk

        • Oh, it went missing from my comment, but time is now 5am here, and I also managed to write pm, not am, in that comment.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Ah, good point!

    • Morning!!

    • Morgan

      Good morning!

    • Saxon_Brenton

Regrettably we are just preparing to leave for a swim (after a morning of gardening and cleaning leaves out of the gutters), so I will see the rest of you after the update.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Okay, I think I am going to have to check out for the night. I’ll be back to see the new page tomorrow! Have fun camping, everybody!

  • Speaking of timezones. When does US have it’s winter timesaving this year?

    • We go into standard time after Halloween. Just looked it up. Nov 1.

      • Yay. For once it looks like it won’t mess up my inner schedule completely for 2-3 weeks as usual. Only a week I think. I was about to say it must be the same day, but here it always happens on the last whole weekend of october, so that must be the week before this year, since it switches to november on a sunday – the date you have.
So next week for me … which is also a con-weekend for Alex. Damn, I hope I can figure the timezones out correct (and remember to set my timer correct depending on it).

        • It used to be done a lot sooner, but the candy lobby bribed congress to change it for after Halloween. Which is really strange because when I was a kid we waited until the sun was down and it was dark before we went out trick or treating. Now they have it so kids have more daylight to go out in? Just seems so wrong.

    • Good question!

……ummmm whenever it is the most inconvenient?

      • davefragments

        Days ending in “Y”

  • davefragments

Eventually one of these things will eat somebody…
    (ps, i’m watching Jurassic World)

    • Isn’t that just the way. We breed these predators and expect them not to eat us.

      • davefragments

When Jurassic Park came out, I went to my Mother’s house and told her she was going to get out and see a movie. Well, she pissed and moaned a bit even at the start and then she watched the thing with white knuckles and finally said — it’s a loud movie) which meant she enjoyed it.

I’m having too much fun watching dino claws and teeth…
Also — kids — I googled mommy and daddy’s divorce lawyers — good kids, remember google is your friend!

        • I saw Jurassic Park at the drive in theater. Those were the days. But it wasn’t long later that the drive in was shut down. Boo.

The dinos definitely are the stars of the movie.

          • davefragments

The theater cranked up the volume so you could hear the dino’s outside the theaters.

          • Damn, that is loud.

          • davefragments

I hated the chaos theory. It was so wrong. So unbelievably stupid and philosophically wrong!

          • That doesn’t surprise me, but the idea of what can go wrong, will go wrong is kinda apt.

          • Drive in theater. I’ve only tried that once, since we don’t have a lot of those here in Denmark. Not sure if the one I was at exist anymore. Fond memories, despite half bad movie (Blues Brothers 200) – at least what I remember of it.
I didn’t register much of the last half, was a bit distracted. My first, and so far only time, at a drive in and it evolved into my first heavy make-out session xD
(This was back in the last 90s)

          • When I was a kid, late 70’s early 80’s my parents would put my brothers and I in our pj’s and we’d go to the drive in. We’d open the back of the station wagon or the van snuggle in our blankets and we’d watch the movies and if we fell asleep it wasn’t a problem. Nor was taking us to use the rest room, no one to disturb. All around fun.

Though for Jurassic Park, I was 18 and had my own truck. A bunch of us had gone. I couldn’t hear much because the speaker was bad, but it was a fun time.

          • Klaus

I have been to a drive in movie theater only once. The film was Asterix og Kleopatra, which means that it must have been in 1968. The theater was in a disused gravel pit, and did not exist for long.

    • The biggest hero of that movie isn’t Chris Pratt. I mean, he’s the movie hero, but the biggest heroes are the raptors imo 🙂

      • I dunno the t-rex gave a great showing!

        • That it did, but I’m still on Team Raptor. They were the underdogs compared to that big bad dino.

          • True, true. The big bad was pretty big bad, but I think if Chris Pratt was such a expert he should have guessed sooner about big bad.

          • davefragments

That is one big, very bad and hungry dino.
I think all it knows is “SNACKIES”

          • Yes, yes she is. Sparkles is enjoying the worlds largest buffet.

          • davefragments

I have deer, squirrels, groundhogs, chipmunks, and skunks in my yard and roundly house. I would NEVER play with them.

          • No. They have teeth.

          • davefragments

They are wild animals. I admire the deer but I keep my distance. And the Bambi are just as adorable as the movie version. But not the Mothers.

          • Exactly! Mama will kick your butt as soon as look at you.

  • Ugh, I really need to remember better when Alex is at a convention. I even looked this one up earlier this week, and thought I could set the alarm clock for 5.45 (later than usual) – only to forget that completely last night.

  • Sapfo

    • davefragments

      • Sapfo

You mean I finally, after such a long time made it is time (woke up that is?)

        • davefragments

No page signs yet… No patreon signs, either

    • Half sleeping, but yes 🙂 And morning.

    • Morning Sapfo

    • Wheee! The strawberry is here!

      • Sapfo

Yay! But strawberry needs to do laundry -_-
Why do I need to do that by the way?

        • Well if the strawberry wants clean underwear?? 😛

          • Sapfo

Look at underwear mountain (clean underwear)…. that will not be a problem, I could go a month without laundry and still have a week more of clean ones left XD

          • Then why are you doing laundry?

          • Sapfo

I like having a clean mountain of underwear, and dirty one….. <.< are you sure you would want that?

          • Well no I suppose not. It’s always good to have clean underwear.

  • I’m going to take a 20min power-nap, as I’m crashing, meaning the page will probably be up in the next 20-30mins while I’m not here 😉

    • and Danish will steal the V while everyone thinks she is sleeping…..

      • Sapfo

that is so true. Darn sneaky wolf.

  • Page baking in the oven. Should be up soon…

  • Huh. I bet Mitch would be really good in one of those cash grab booths. I mean seeing the way he’s flying around in all that debris. 😛

    • Saxon_Brenton

Well, maybe keen eyesight plus speed (and hypothetical fast reflexes) gives him excellent dodge abilities.

    • davefragments

      I want a bigger TV.

      • With all those dinos running around, probably in need of one.

  • Sapfo

I need lots of sympathy. I’m a klutz, fell down the stairs to the basement. Nothing broken, unless my ego counts 😉

    • *hugs sapfo gently in case of bruises and bumps* Poor Strawberry!!

      • Sapfo

not to hard. Bruises. Thank you

        • Of course. Falling is never fun.

          • Sapfo

Some people seems to think skydiving is fun. I just dont get it

          • Good grief, no! That’s just wrong. Kinda like running.

          • Sapfo

I know! They must be evil, trying to take over the world or something

          • Yup! And they are not goats!

          • Sapfo

I trust goats. but these people…. Phu!

          • I’m with you there, sister! And they post pictures of them running all over Facebook like it’s fun or something. It’s a lie!

          • Sapfo

Yes! and it seems like they are proud of this evil thing they are doing. Dont they know training is dangerous for you. You might fall and hurt your lovely humps.

          • Exactly. They don’t seem to know the dangers they face. But I know. Boy do I know!!

  • Sapfo

Have fun camping good people and goats.
    I be of now (^^)/

    • Enjoy your day. And be careful!! Don’t need a smooshed Strawberry.

  • davefragments

I have to go to sleep. Have a good night, y’all.

  • Saxon_Brenton

    page up
