The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Flyboy Bonus Comic—Page 24

185 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Flyboy Bonus Comic—Page 24

Oh, God…

Just a heads up that I have some conventions coming up this month:

In Austin, TX, I will be at the Webcomic Rampage the weekend of October 17 and 18th (along with even cooler webcomic creators, including T.J. and Amal‘s creator E.K. Weaver).

And I’ll be at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA at Nijicon on the weekend of October 24th and 25th! (And the whole Con is for fans of “male/male romance” so it’s definitely worth checking out. E.K. Weaver will also be at that Con along with Starfighter‘s creator Hamlet Machine!)

At these conventions, I’ll have Artifice books and advance copies of The Young Protectors books and some very special new, sexy prints and cards. If you’re nearby, please stop by and say hello!

So! Mitch was able to take out the shooting mobster and disarm Kanya. But not before Diego got shot. How badly hurt is Cory’s brother? And will Flyboy be able to save him?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Um…. touchdown?

    • stickfigurefairytales

*very restrained “Yay” in light of dire events transpiring*

      • That was the first thing that popped into my head, but then I saw that Diego was down.

        • stickfigurefairytales

A red flag was thrown on the play. The officials are taking a player out of the game.

          • Red flag, red card, red alert. It’s all there.

          • Tyler Griffin

I think that’s gonna be an “Unnecessary roughing of the passer”

  • stickfigurefairytales

I vote for bad things to not happen. 🙁

  • Michael

    No! 🙁

    • Michael

      Yay, my first virgin!

      • stickfigurefairytales

Sorry, but I think the Admiral won this one.

        • Michael

          How? She hasn’t commented yet.

          • Refresh??

          • Michael

            :C

I was refreshing, seven times in a row until the new page showed up.

How do you even do that, anyway? Comment a full minute before the page is posted. Maybe there’s a delay/lag with American server data being accessed by Australia?

          • Don’t use the link? It might help to clear the cache.

          • Michael

I was on the predicted “page-34” link, refreshing until “page not found” became a page.

Doesn’t matter, anyway. I’ll never beat anyone from most countries, because Australian internet is humiliatingly slow. Friggin’ Hungary has faster internet speeds than us.

          • Tyler Griffin

One day, they shall all be asleep, and then you shall strike. That or steal a TARDIS

          • stickfigurefairytales

Try refreshing the page a few times. It can take a number of tries before first comments show up properly.

  • davefragments

oh rats and other rotten things…

  • stickfigurefairytales

The fact that we can literally see how small Cory’s voice is when he’s saying his brother’s name here just about kills me.

    • Michael

      :C

  • Saxon_Brenton

Oh Flyboy, allowing yourself to be distracted when there’s a whole lot more mobsters, probably with a whole lot more guns just lying around on the floor.

Hmm. Possibly it’s because of how far away Ivan is on the floor, but there seems to be a discrete absence of blood splatter compared to what we saw last page. [edit: whoops! No. That’s Diego, not Ivan. Should have realised, that looks like a chest wound rather than a head/neck wound]

    • stickfigurefairytales

Maybe Ivan has self-cleaning blood? It would be the one considerate thing about him.

      • The only good thing he’s done in his life.

        • stickfigurefairytales

Well, “in his life” might technically be stretching it a bit.

          • True. This is his afterlife.

          • Foelhe

Never too late to make a new start?

          • Tyler Griffin

The spirit might be willing, but I believe the flesh is laying on the ground

  • Airboy Obsessed

    NO FUCK NO NO NO I KNEW IT WHEN HE WAS STILL FIRING FUCK NO NO NO NO FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK ;_______________;

(Thank god it wasn’t fucking Cory though. God. That would have killed Mitch. Fuck. 🙁 )

  • This might be a good thing for Cory.

Just put something on it to stem the blood flow and then fly them both to the hospital.

    • Michael

That’s a direct hit in the centre of his sternum. I don’t think there’s anything non-superpowered doctors can do.

    • This comment has been edited.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I’m picturing Mitch carrying Diego in his arms and Cory riding piggyback with his arms around Mitch’s shoulders. It is inappropriately hilarious.

    • He’s better off without Diego pulling him under, but at the same time, he’s his brother.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Yeah… Poor Cory.

      • I don’t think I experience the proper familial feelings.

        • What about a pet situation? Some pets are difficult and life would be easier without them, but still you loved them just the same.

          • Fairly safe to say I have cried more over animals than people.

          • Well animals are basically innocent without any agenda other than to eat.

          • I have cried more over animals and fictional characters than I have over real people. I remember crying when my grandfather died in fall 92, but after that I cannot recall crying for any other loss. I feel very sad, but the leakage of salty water from my eyes doesn’t come.

          • stickfigurefairytales

That’s okay. Not everybody reacts to grief or pain in the same way, and we tend to have a lot less conflicted emotions towards animals and fictional characters as opposed to real people in our lives. It doesn’t mean that how you’re feeling or reacting is in any way wrong.

          • hmmmm….what about wishing for the destruction of the human race in 2nd grade maybe longer, but it was particularly strong in 2nd grade? My 2nd grade self was somewhat convinced I was a Martian…..good times…

          • Tyler Griffin

Eh, many days I get up, read the days news headlines, and feel lke the human race would benefit greatly from a good eugenics program, except that you would need a group of people without fault to run it, and well, there’s THAT whole idea scrubbed.

          • Yeah.

          • Tyler Griffin

Yeah, but in the end, that cat STILL ended up abandoning me to move in with the next door neighbor. But then, I was NEVER her first choice of companion, she was my ex’s and he conspicuously left her with me when he moved out, and she needed surgery. Que serra, serra.

        • stickfigurefairytales

Tbh, it depends a lot. My dad isn’t close to any of his immediate family (that is, his siblings and parents) because they’re just too different.

      • With a brother like that, who needs a drug addiction?

      • Tyler Griffin

Better off without the influence, let’s just hope it doesn’t push him in the wrong direction. Let’s hope for a Scared Straight outcome here

  • ….Mitch looks just the best on this page. *besotted? sigh*

  • syllibub

Yeah, siddown, gramps! But oh, calamity. There’s no good place to be shot, but Diego’s wound looks…especially bad.

Also, and kind of random, but I really like how Kanya’s shirt is half-untucked — it’s a cool detail. Nice bit of fluttery hair action, too (although no one holds a candle to the wife). Standout panel on an excellently drawn page!

    • Tyler Griffin

It is nice to see writers and artists who understand the concept that clothes can become damaged or ruffled without splitting across the boobs, isn’t it. That’s so much of why I enjoy these comics, not just getting to see gay superheroes, but just getting to see tasteful comics. There is JUST enough sexualization in the costumes and posing to be flashy and attractive, but it’s all still (mostly. looking at PPs Battle Bikini with that welded on boob plate, here) within the real on suspension of disbelief. And even PP’s outfit, unrealistic as it may be, works on her.

  • Is Cory going to go Hulk Smash next page?

    • syllibub

Maybe not next page, but once it sinks in, that building is not long for structural integrity.

      • You’re right. It needs to sink in. I’m scared for when it does.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Okay, just wandered offto get chocolate (because, you know, comfort food) and something occurred to me: How did Diego get wounded?

Unless it was from a really strange ricochotte, it wasn’t from the shot that hit Ivan. Look at the last page. Diego and Cory were standing behind Flyboy on the right hand side of panel, while Ivan was off to the left. And in any case, a shot that hit Ivan in the neck/base of skull would be too high to hit Diego in the chest. Sensible suggestion is that with all those mobsters and all those guns lying around on the floor, someone has been agreeing with blond moustache guy’s orders on the last page to just kill them all. It might even have been Kanya. On the next page Flyboy will discover that he’s at the centre on a growing number of guns.

Non-sensible suggestion: Diego has powers like his brother, but it was the unfortunate power of empathic healing. When Ivan was shot Diego unwittingly saved Ivan’s life by taking some of the damge onto himself as a type of stigmata.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I had just assumed that either Kanya or tracksuit guy got off another shot before Mitch took them out, but I could be wrong.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Oh, or Ivan’s gun could have gone off if his hand spasmed or something when he got shot. Or when it hit the ground, I guess.

      • Track suit did look like he was firing more than the shot that took out Ivan.

    • Kate G

It’s possible that 3 shots were fired. The flare from a bullet being shot are instantaneous and short lived. It wouldn’t take 3 panels for a flare to disperse. I’m thinking there was three shots fired. One to Ivan, one to Diego and one that was probably intended for Mitchell but missed.

    • Klaus

Look at the last panel on page 23. Ivan is lying on the floor. The gunman is fireing another shot. Panels 4 and 5 could be the same shot from different viewpoints, but panel 6 is unmistakeably another shot.

      • Saxon_Brenton

Ah, well spotted. Makes me think I should have checked the previous page more carefully rather than just wandering off and buying chocolate.

        • Klaus

Checking is good. Chocolate is essential.

  • DC

Yeah Mitch slam that murderer into the wall.
    Nice action shots of Mitch.
    Oh God poor Cory.
Scroll back up to panel 2, mmm yes nice shot of Mitch there 🙂

  • davefragments

I said on the other page:
I think the lesson Mitch will learn at the death of others is a thing. And, all his good intentions do not mean no one can die. That is the pain of a hero — he can’t save them all.
This is like one of those Shakespearean or operatic Tragedies — blood is spilled everywhere and like Lear, or Hamlet or Cio-Cio-San, or Florio Tosca, Like all tragedies, they will be more blood spilled. . .
This isn’t Kurosawa’s Rashomon. Mitch survives to tell the tale in tears and sorrow. A lesson learned too hard and too young.

  • Toli Bera

well this all went spaghetti real quick D:

  • LimpBiskit

Kind of annoying that random con-goers are getting things that I’ve been waiting over 2 years for… Definitely not doing any Kickstarter things again.

    • I hear you. I had tremendously mixed feelings about making the books available at Cons before all the rewards were complete and I could ship the books to the backers. Well, actually I hated the idea. But when I asked backers about it in an Update (because I had promised to debut the books at certain Cons this year I’d been invited to last year), the response was unanimous and very strong: that I should sell the books to increase the exposure and readership of The Young Protectors (and many backers also encouraged selling the books as a way of helping me make ends meet, which was of course very kind.)

So, with that response, I’ve been selling limited numbers of advance copies at the Cons I’d committed to. (And giving away free, additional copies to backers who are able to attend.) But I completely understand your feelings — it’s not awesome and it’s one of the many reasons why I can’t wait to be able to ship the books out to y’all. I love the reactions new folks are having to these books, but it ties my stomach into knots that the backers who made it all happen aren’t getting them first. 🙁

As I’ve said many times in the Updates, if I ever do a Kickstarter again, I’ll definitely do things very differently. There certainly won’t be any extra rewards that could delay the shipping of the book. I know it doesn’t make this any less annoying for backers like yourself who have patiently waited for your book, but just know that I get it. Just because other backers are OK with it, doesn’t mean that you should be. I’m truly sorry, and I can completely understand if you choose not to support the printing of my books in the future.

      • Mary Klemzak

Uh sorry Alex dear but if they support you, they should automatically get the book and whatever you promised FIRST. They need to be compensated. Specially if they give their hard earned cash to something they believe in. Like YOU and your comics.

Waiting two years for a reward, that they paid for, is not cool.

      • Tyler Griffin

And, I suppose, of course, there is no way to ship the books separately without incurring a bunch of extra costs that would basically negate the benefit of the kickstarter. Sometimes events just suck, sorry ya’ll are having that problem.

        • Exactly. I ran the numbers about shipping the books separately some time ago when it became clear that creating all the Trading Card art was going to delay things. And I just don’t have the budget for it, especially with international backers (who make up a huge chunk). Even shipping all the rewards together is still going to cost me tens of thousands of dollars (there’s a reason they call shipping the “silent killer” for Kickstarter creators.)

If there is a next time, I’m not going to have any stretch goals that require making new things that could delay shipping of the book. But for this one, I’m committed to delivering every reward the backers pledged for.

  • LimpBiskit

Wow, 1 complaint in all this time and now I’m being flooded with flames.
Not even sure how people got my private email from Disqus, but all you’re doing is enforcing the sentiment. Second class indeed. Never again.

    • Wait. Are people actually emailing you about your comment?

IF ANYONE IS DOING THAT, I AM ASKING THAT YOU STOP RIGHT NOW.

I’ve made it clear that so long as folks use a tone of respect, criticism is totally welcome here. That especially includes criticism directed at me. Of course, I don’t have control over what people do outside of this forum, but I am asking that anyone who truly cares about my work and my feelings continue that tone of respect with each other outside of here as well when interacting about me and my comic. If my feelings matter, that is my request.

Anyway, y’all can see my response to LimpBiskit below. I’m asking that unless LimpBiskit wants to continue the conversation with me, that we let that be the end of that thread.

      • Kate G

The House Cup goes to Alex Woolfson!

No, but seriously, bullying is not okay. I’m grateful that you take things like this very seriously because I know other authors on other sites don’t. They’ll just give a warning and let it continue which, honestly, why have a comment policy if you aren’t going to enforce it? Thank you for always taking the time to enforce your policies because it helps keep those of us who are a little bit more intimidated to speak our minds (because of bullying in the past) speak–er, type, Speak? Type? Oh, it’s all so confusing in the Internet age.

    • syllibub

      Not cool, people. 🙁

I was curious if Disqus profiles show email addresses, so I clicked on your profile and scrolled through your comments, and not too far down there’s one where you put your email — if you’re getting rude messages, definitely go edit your email address out.

    • Yeah, there’s nothing like a flame war to show that one is a mature, reasonable person, is there?

Seriously, if LimpBiskit caused you to go into full-blown flame attacks, it’s time to re-evaluate your life choices… and to take your medication.

    • Columbine

Damn that’s crazy. And completely unexpected: this comments thread has always felt completely safe to me. It’s unsettling to know people here would target you like that.

      • LimpBiskit

Doesn’t matter. It topped out at 24 before it died out and I still stand by the original statement. Guess I was asking for it by posting an email in a reply from however long ago. *shrug*

        • Columbine

Well I’m glad it’s over at least. Although I’d kind of like to think that you could post your email in a comment once or twice without later receiving threats because of it. The internet can be a seriously weird place.

          • LimpBiskit

I don’t even care. I’m used to the ‘white knight phenomenon’. It’s just annoying since this literally happens every single time anyone has a problem with anything decided by a ‘majority’. As far as I’m concerned, I would withdraw my funds if it weren’t far too late. This has happened with every kickstarter I’ve backed, as well as every online venture I’ve spent my money on in the last several years. As I said before, never again.

          • I can see where you are coming from. I recently “pre-ordered” a graphic novel, in order to fund the printing. When it was printed off, the people producing it notified the funders that they were taking several cases to a rather large, very expensive convention. Funders who were going could pick up their copy at the booth, and the rest of the copies at the con would be sold to other con-goers.

The rest of us were told we could expect our copies to be shipped three or four weeks after the con.

I was upset. But the fact of the matter is, those copies at the con were being sold to finance the shipping charges, as well as other expenses that were not covered by the pre-orders.

Yes, the creators got a lot of flack for it. But indie publishing is very expensive, and sometimes the cost of printing can rise, without notice, and the creators have to scramble like mad to cover the extra. (Quotes for printing of this type and quality are rarely firm; the cost can change anytime before the proofs are submitted)

But this doesn’t make it feel any better when you have funded something and start feeling like you’re taking a backseat to others who didn’t put their faith behind the creators. Especially when these johnnies-come-lately are getting all the extras you were promised, rather than only the actual product. I would hope that most creators would understand this feeling and not distribute the extras until all the funders have received theirs.

  • I keep ooking at Mitch slamming tracksuit into the wall. Shouldn’t that hurt Mitch.

    • He is using Tracksuit as a cushion.

      • Still I would think there would be a bit of a shock from the impact. Just a little one.

        • Michael

Matlock’s gut looks like it has plenty of padding to cushion the blow.

But there would be some significant stress on Mitch’s neck if nothing else, from the impact.

  • Jeldenil

Holy shit. I honestly don’t know how Mitch can possibly save Diego. It’s a bad idea to move him and I don’t recall Mitch having any ER doctor experience.

    • Not so sure about that – remember: everything Mitch touches in flight seems to completely loose its inertia, so maybe flying with him could be the safest thing to do?

  • Klaus

I repeat my question from a previous page: Mitch can fly at mach 2, but does he know where there is a trauma center in this town?

  • Mary Klemzak

Oh please, let there be a hero or someone with healing powers.

    • Klaus

Does Mitch now where Spooky is? And how far away is he?

      • Mary Klemzak

Doubt it. This is kinda Mitch’s secret thing. If he has to tell anyone. His secret is out and he’d probably have less freedom than he does now. Might even be grounded or restriction from going to other events.

I feel like him. Being a hero is a big responsibility.

  • Klaus

The guy in green is getting to know that wall pretty well.

  • Kate G

Is there a Spooky in the house? I need one because I’m sure he has a cure for the common cold. *coughs* Of all the things to get two weeks before the Olympics, it HAS to be a cold.

I wonder if Mitch’s head hurts from slamming baddie #3 into the wall. One would assume that would hurt. I mean, he can’t have NOT bonked his head into that guys abs. That still hurts.

  • bronakopdin

gosh… way to keep it secret from us until now, Alex…
I really hope hi organs were spared >_>’ so that he has a chance on surviving this! Poor Cory must be devastated…
But who exactly shot Diego? The older warden that also shit Ivan? He did release a second shot after all! But wow hitting so critical places twice in a row he sure is great at aiming in this kind of situation… or he’s lucky as Paul….

Mitch did a good job unarming everyone though! Just wished he’d noticed the waking up dude a little earlier 🙁

so what now? WIll they call an ambulance? I doubt Mitch would carry anyone with those kinda wounds around it’d cause more damage than helping anyone…
but then there is still Kanya who cetainly doesn’T want any more attention at that place there…

    • Columbine

On the other hand waiting for an ambulance with this lot might cause more damage than a flight to the hospital…..

      • bronakopdin

that’s true but if they could at least somehow controll the bleeding maybe I still think it’s safer, as I said to Klaus, any funny movement of his mody might cause major damage and you can’t even see it 🙁

    • Klaus

When Mitch flies, anything he touches flies with him. The is no stress. Remember how he lifted a car by the top of the back rests? Clearly the upholstery was not carrying the weight of the car. Mitch can move Diego more gently than an ambulance crew could.

      • bronakopdin

but diego is no stiff object and any kind of wrong movement could do way more damage on the inside of him! even if it’s just his legs dangling at the flight, I guess to be fixed on a stretcher in an ambulance where he could also be taken care off due to some point while being transported would still be safer even if the car moves more

        • Klaus

However that may be, this is not a safe place. Kanya’s “people” may turn up any minute. Another poker player may wake up.

          • bronakopdin

either option is risky and you have a good point there!
There might still be the possibility that Kanya only bluffed to maybe make them give up on their own. Though the others really might wake up, then the question is if Mitch could hold them down on his own and most important atm is actually how Kanya will react to all of this…
we’re talking about Alex here anyway, who KNOWS what might happen next xD I somehow gave up to actually think I’m hitting home with my theories ^^

  • Klaus
  • Derkins

it’s awful. here is this compelling story with something heartbreaking happening on the page, and all i can think is … “heee lookit flyboy’s lil butt!” i’ve officially become a dirty ol lady. it’s happened. :p

  • Pikinanou

It was bound to happen :O

  • Niggle

Well, that’s a sad page. 🙁 And I’m sad already. My father died last week, can I have some virtual hugs?

    • *hugs* My condolences.

    • Klaus

      Very sad indeed.

    • davefragments

My thoughts and sympathies are with you.

    • Shinashi

Oh, that’s awful. I’m so sorry this page coincided with your loss. *BIG HUG* All the best to you.

    • Oh no! 🙁 My condolences to you and your family. *huggles*

    • *hugs*

    • So sorry for your loss. *Big hugs*

    • Tyler Griffin

      I’m so sorry.

    • I’m very sorry to hear of your loss, Niggle. Big hugs.

      • Niggle

Thank you, Alex, and to everyone who gave hugs and condolences. Sorry I’m slow, I wasn’t ready to read your comments until now. Maybe I’m not even ready now, it’s making me cry, but thank you all.

  • kamishiro

    oooooh fuck

  • Connor

Last night I had a dream that Cory had been kidnapped by orcs who were going to use his powers to tear down the walls between worlds. So the Young Protectors had to team up with Cory’s superhero team to rescue him. (I guess this must have been happening sometime in the future, after he’s been put on a team.)

But the catch was, the orcs weren’t working for Hell, they were in the employ of Heaven, who wanted to get onto Earth and turn it into a giant ball of superheated plasma as a trap for the demons and stuff escaping fro Hell.

    • Fascinatingly strange how the mind works during sleep, ain’t it?

    • Samurai Jack

You’ve been watching too much Supernatural. 😉

    • Tyler Griffin

I’ve always been a sucker for the “Hell may be evil, but that doesn’t mean Heaven is on our side” story lines.

      • Yep. I like those. Or the “Evil is only merely bad, but the ‘good’ is worse”.

      • And now I wish you could read a novel trilogy, I just read about a month ago, but sadly it only comes in Danish ( though I hope for a translation one day so I can recommend it to all internarional friends). Those books have a pretty interesting take on demons, angels and falling angels vs. their use of – and relations to humans.

    • stop reading ahead

  • Shinashi

How bad? That looks like a chest wound, also what we call, that boy dead wound.

    • KatKaleen

Nah, a clean shot through the lung may put you in hospital for some weeks, but it won’t kill you. At least not immediately.

      • Dakejev

Unless it was low enough and central enough that it nicked the aorta or one of the other big blood vessels in that area. Doesn’t even have to hit the heart itself.

        • Zsebaoth-senpai

He may just got hit on the heart anyway since it is on the left side but if I had to bet I think it reached one of the aorta ramifications, possibly the subclavian artery

        • KatKaleen

Dammit, Jim, I’m a travel agent, not a doctor!

          • Tyler Griffin

I was under the impression that this story takes place very briefly after ToD, but I could be wrong.

      • Shinashi

        It wasn’t luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuung ;o;

  • I have to say that with this Mitch story, Adam is making it harder and harder for me to name a Top5 fave panels of Mitch from all pages he’s been in. At least, a Top10 is needed now. So many awesome panels with an intense looking Mitch – an expression I’ve discovered I really like on him. I think panel 4 on this page must be on it.

Then add a couple of panels showing off a nice toosh and, yes, a Top10 now xD

    • Doki has been very happy. Very. Happy.

    • I also like how Adam draws Intense Looking Mitch. 🙂

      • Chris Dangerfield

Very much agree. Adam definitely knows how to show Mitch wearing his big boy pants. Compare this page to the page of him flying the car when (compared to Spooky and Paul) he seemed like such a sweet puppy. It does emphasize how changeable age 15 is. Those fluctuations. Adam and Vero have done some amazing work here.

  • Jason Moon

Well, THAT could’ve gone better. This displays why hostage situations are so scary: they involve PEOPLE, and people can complicate ANYTHING.

People, the #1 single most reason plans fail.

  • How badly is he hurt? I’d say pretty bad. Given the placement of the blood, it looks like he not only got shot in the chest, but a potentially bad area of the chest. If not the heart, then pretty damn close to it and probably at least around some important blood vessels.

    • Zsebaoth-senpai

If he is reeeeeally lucky he may just have damage on the apex of the lung which is….passable but I do feel the need of saying that the heart is on the left side of the chest so his odds look at least dire.

During the occupation a member of the resistance actually had a 9 mm bullet pass through the 10 mm gap between his windpipe and aorta without touching either. Sometimes extreme luck does happen.

  • Diviana

Mitch, this is why it is regulation to work only in teams.

  • Chris Dangerfield

Wow, another really dynamic and active page. Every panel is moving and tightly strung with it’s own tension. Also interesting is that there’s been a feeling that Mitch was held back by a thread of uncertainly since he’s clearly in a situation beyond his experience. It’s clear here that, in a heartbreaking way, that gunshot snapped the thread… and now Mach 2 boy is in motion. The super hero game is suddenly not fun any more.

Panel #1: Pure lateral action. A real sense of a pile driver. I like that all his tension feels released like he’s the bullet. I don’t think he cares much (right or wrong) what happens to the shooter. All his anger and fear which was caused by Ivan, (Diego) and then Kanya, is now focused on this stupid man.

I know they’re big men with guns, but one still has to wonder about boys who fly at warp speed, pick up security guards and fly away with them and also boys who pull the walls off buildings. I mean, those things would give me pause (regardless of my massive gun, LOL). I get that of this is happening very fast, but everyone is acting awfully tough because of a few guns. Just sayin’ that cinder block wall aint looking too cushy.

I also like the way this panel runs edge to edge and really accentuates the feeling that Mitch sped in from off-screen left, and gaining RAMMING speed.

Panel #2: I love the angle on this panel with the high angled camera (tush-cam #1). Oh baby, in three years I will write eloquently and legally about the wonders of the tush-cam. LOL. I also love the way Mitch’s head and arm breaks top and top-right of frame. Keeping out eyes constantly moving (as this page is one in motion!) I also love Kanya’s pugnacious expression. If she could get her hands on Flyboy I don’t think it would be for hugs and cuddles. And speaking of small but significant details — her tie moving in the wind of Mitch’s passage is awesome.

Panel #3: Mitch is tired, scared and pissed and this line sums up how he feels perfectly. Da guns are effed up. As always I like that the camera picks up the back of Kanya’s head. More work for Adam and Vero, but (as always) it anchors our sense of who is where. Top notch.

Panel #4: Mitch’s expression is incredibly emotional. Shock, concern, surprise — and, as always, he’s incredibly good looking. I do love that you made the lettering of “DIEGO?” so small. It really feels like the panicked question of a little brother.

Panel #5: Again love the angle. Gives us all the emotion. Everyone’s location and we can clearly see Diego’s been damaged, but it’s not overly gory. I really agree with Stickfigure’s comment on a previous page — that due to the fact that there isn’t a lot of blood in this comic it makes a little go a long way. I really feel it in these last two pages.

Thank you again Alex, Adam and Vero for excitement, action and a good bit of heartbreak. I don’t know where we’re going at the moment, but I don’t think it’s kittens and rainbows at this moment. Looking forward to PAGE DAY! Take care.

    • Lovely analysis as always, Mr. Dangerfield!

    • Thank you for another beautiful play-by-play, Chris. 🙂 I like your analysis of Flyboy’s state-of-mind up to this point, and what finally launches him into action. It’s always a great pleasure to read this page “along” with you. 🙂

    • Tyler Griffin

I always love reading your takes, +1 goat for you.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Consider it sacrificed to get Laampros back on stage!!! 🙂 Thanks.

    • Klaus

The small amount of blood is worrisome. It could indicate the heart is no longer beating.

      • Chris Dangerfield

And Klaus our little ray of medical sunshine. 😀 (Maybe it’s just beating really slowly and then Mitch will lift Diego and Cory to the hospital in time and Cory will rip the doors off the ER entrance and they’ll rush him in time to fix him???

See, I can do positive if I try hard enough. LOL.

        • Sherlock survived. Though I think his was a little more on the right I think. And he had to wait for an ambulance.

    • I have missed your awesome play-by-play comments 🙂

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Thank you so much.

I have two stories in PSYCHOPOMP #8 and it is free: click here

  • Hmm.. the more I look at last panel, the more I sadly think Diego is dead. I don’t wish it to be so, but realisticly that shot looks right around the heart, and there’s not a lot of blood (like some others also have pointed out).

No, Diego is no more 🙁

Big main question now, is how Cory will react? Considering his powers, and lack of full control, I have a feeling that warehouse is about to be toasted. All things aside, Diego was his brother and he loved him.
(My secondary big question is still how Mitch managed to hide this from the team – IF he did that?)

I think it’s time for everyone to duck or get out of the way. If Cory is abou to ‘explode’.
No, actually that mobster dude can stay just where he is, and rot. Maybe a wall could fall on him or something. I wouldn’t mind one bit. As long as he doesn’t die, not for his sake but for Cory’s. Accidentally killing the bastard would just get Cory into more trouble.

  • Good Evening/Afternoon/Morning!

      Good Evening!

      • How’s it going?

        • davefragments

Well, I was going to go food shopping yesterday and my car’s 7 year old battery had the gall to drop dead. Then today, I got ready to leave and it stormed. Me in the rain is like a drowning puppy.
But other than that, I got two short stories published.

          • I saw that! Congrats!

Well today is the last day of the Mercury Retrograde, so hopefully things will stop breaking and being stupid.

          • davefragments

I only drop things when I’m burning something in the kitchen.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Congratulations about the stories!

          • davefragments

Thanks. They are a free download. The link is below.
One is PUMPKIN MAN about a halloween gone bad, the other is DEMIGODS OF THE PACIFIC (my homage to the creature from the black lagoon)

          • stickfigurefairytales

Are they very scary? I’m not good with scary things…

          • davefragments

I’ve been through both about 25 times so I can’t tell anymore.
PUMPKIN MAN is about witches calling up a demon and the demon calls the angel of death. So it might be.
DEMIGODS has a bloody fight in it. Off hand I would say more sic fi than horror and scary.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm… Maybe I can ask somebody else on here what their reaction is once they’ve read them.

          • davefragments

            OK

          • Big congratz!
