Alright-y, then! Get ’em, Cory!

Over on the Patreon Page, $5+ backers got to see some more awesome Spooky Jones pin-up art — this time featuring him using his powers! (He’s more than just a pretty face, y’know… 😉 ) Comments so far have included: “Wow this is really gorgeous.”, “It looks like it would make a great wallpaper, with the mystical ball & chain.” and “WOW! This is really cool! The colouring really gives it an ethereal, eldritch quality, and the detail on those golems is incredible.” Eagle-eyed readers might even recognize his adversaries from an earlier Powers Card pin-up… 🙂

Here’s a sneak preview of that pin-up:

So! Cory is taking a stand to protect his brother! What is he going to do? Is this what finally stops Ivan? And most importantly, how did he get that oh-so-fashionable tear in his jeans?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Oh this is just getting complicated.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Wow, your streak continues! Nice job!

  • stickfigurefairytales

    It’s up!

    • Sapfo

      Happy Sticky?

  • stickfigurefairytales

    Don’t get killed, Cory!

  • jreed3842

Damn! Get it, Cory! …. Though…. be careful, I don’t want you getting hurt.

    • I think he would have been smarter to not say anything. Now he’s given Ivan a clue. Granted Ivan is an idiot, but still a clue.

  • Well this seals its. Ivan is an idiot.

Dude, this is not how you make a name for yourself. This is how you get yourself killed or put in jail.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I really hate Ivan. What a jerk.

    • ChibE

He’s not the sharpest pencil in the box, that’s for sure.

      • Ooh, that’s a good one. My usual favorite is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

  • DC

Quick Cory blast him with your power before he points the gun at you.

    • stickfigurefairytales

No, wait, just hit him with a rock! He probably won’t be expecting that!

      • Holly

I hit him with a rock!
        *everyone stares*
… It was a big rock

        • stickfigurefairytales

That was one of my all-time favorite episodes of Batman: The Animated Series ever.

        • Tyler Griffin

Thank you. Thank you for that, from the bottom of my heart.

  • davefragments

Well, it was a slog to get to the computer tonight.
However, I think Cory is going to squash Ivan.
    Then he’ll feel guilty.
    Then Mitch will feel bad.
Then they both will feel worse.
    Then the police will come.
    Then Diego gets arrested.
Then Mitch is going to feel worse.
It’s all so Shakespearean but without the bloody sword fighting.

  • dereule101

Laampros Ba Sukoth Ba Suggoroth! *Cory opens portal to hell*

  • Holly

How did I miss the camp?

    • stickfigurefairytales

I think it was a pretty quiet one tonight.

      • Holly

        I was looking forward all week…. 🙁

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Aww…poor Holly 🙁

          • Holly

It was such a bad week too

          • stickfigurefairytales

            *hugs* Poor Holly…

          • *hugs*

        • davefragments

You weren’t the only one who missed it. I got here late, too.

  • Holly

Cory gets shot! Mitch learns a lesson about going solo!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Ivan accidentally shoots himself in the leg! Everyone else is happy!

      • Holly

Cory hurts his brother trying to stop Ivan!

        • davefragments

Cory already has the guilts over breaking down the wall of the building. He only did it for his brother.

          • Holly

Super villains show up and beat up Ivan because the mob worked for them…

Cory and his brother are already gone

      • Saxon_Brenton

Ivan accidentally shoots himself in the nadgers?

        • ChibE

          Nadgers. I love it.

      • Ivan rolls a nat 1. Ivan rolls to see how bad he fails and rolls a nat 1. Ivan shoots himself in the stomach and manages by some odd “quirk” of “fate” to cause the most damage he can when someone shoots themselves in the stomach.

        Doki laughs maniacally.

  • davefragments

ivan was never the logical one. Think about it. He pushed Diego into involving his little brother with the superpowers because no detective or policeman would ever think that a building with its front torn off and a walk-in safe with the door ripped open was the work of someone with superpowers.
No, no one would think of that, would they.
Why they’d have to have more than a dozen active braincells that weren’t occupied with the latest pharte or the giant ego that Diego calls a brain.
(jeepers, was that sarcastic or was THAT sarcastic!)

  • stickfigurefairytales

I’m off to bed. Goodnight, everyone!

  • Caffienated

I’m getting a vibe that someone is going to die.

  • Michael

    a) hooray, senpai has noticed me/my comment on the Patreon Power Card (^_^;)

    b) Yeah, Cory! Stick it to him, man! Ivan, you threatened the wrong brother-of-a-telekinesthete.

… although, is there a right one to threaten?

  • Jeldenil

    Yay Corey. *cheerleaders*

  • Tyler Griffin

    And then Corey dies

    • Klaus

      Then again, maybe not.

    • Saxon_Brenton

Well, maybe. Like a few others, that’s a vibe I’m getting. But, you know, there’s ambiguity. And as Woolfpack fandom has seen time and again, Alex loves using ambiguity in order to keep his readers coming back to find out What Happens Next.

I will admit that because this is Flyboy’s story rather than Corey’s story, the chances of Corey getting to save the day seem pretty slim. But maybe Corey just gets wounded. Either way Flyboy would get to angst about the whole great power brings great responsibility thingy.

      • Klaus

This is a story about danger and romance. SInce this is Flyboy’s story, it is a safe bet that he will be involved in the romance. I think it likely that the other party is one of the characters we have already met in this story. Of those, only Cory will do. If Ivan kills Diego, or Cory kills Ivan, or both, Cory will be too traumatized for romance, I think. There is no room for a skip forward in time. Mitch is 15 years old, which mean that this is shortly before the main storyline.

        • Saxon_Brenton

Oh phhhbbb. You need to think creatively so that you can have your cake and eat it too.
Ivan fires his gun at Cory just as Cory uses his TK to knock the gun down and out of Ivan’s hand. Cory gets wounded and collapses from pain (yes, I know this is making Cory look wussy; work with me here). Flyboy zooms at speed and punches Ivan out (he’s either been waiting for an opening, or he’s simply been keeping count of the five shots from previous pages). Flyboy thinks Cory is dead and cradles his body (in the classic Pieta pose, of course). Cory stirs weakly and goes, “I’m okay. Just… hurts.” Flyboy (with tears in his eyes) goes “Cory! Thank god!” And then they gaze into each others eyes, and then they kiss. And then they get Cory to hospital, and in the aftermath Flyboy broods about the whole great power brings great responsibility thing.
See? Danger (but no actual fridging) and romance.

  • Nice to see that Cory did what I asked of him on previous page. It’s so nice when a fictional character listens to you 😉

  • Aitsuki

    well shit…….

  • fujoshifanatic

Cory’s power is telekinesis, right? So why is that gun still in Ivan’s hand? Diego should be feeling pretty bad for dragging his brother into this mess. God, I hope Mitch can get them them out of this safely, hopefully with a little help from Cory. Maybe the guard will come back with reinforcements? Keeping my fingers crossed until Wednesday.

    • I don’t think Corey is very good at dosing his power – judging on that door, Ivan’s lucky to just loose an arm if Corey tries to remove the gun.

      • fujoshifanatic

You say that like it would be a bad thing, but I get it. Still, I hope he at least tries to stop Ivan (somewhat) non-lethally. That would seem to be the best course of action at this point. :-

        • Klaus

I don’t think Alex is going to do splatter. Realistically Ivan would bleed to death in a few minutes if his arms was torn off. Mitch can move at mach 2, but does he know where there is a trauma center in this city?

          • Guess you’re right about Alex’ no splatter policy here, though one never knows with Americans – more often then not there’s blood all over the place, but when the Drag Race contestants are doing a “naked illusion”, the fake body-parts are blurred out.

Oh, by the way, Alex DOES mutilation and splatter, just look at the spooky bonus comic. He just limits it to demonic creatures.

  • ChibE

Oh my gosh, that picture of Spooky looks amazing. My husband and I are trying out a new budget. I may need to figure in $5 of my fun money for Patreon!

    • Michael

It’s worth it. I’m unemployed, but I manage 5 bucks (actually more like 7.50 after conversion) per month, and it’s absolutely worth it.

      • fujoshifanatic

I hear you! Even my broke student butt does my best to scrape together the $5 for the support and the extras. 🙂

    • bandanajack

its painless, and you can turn it on or off at will. i quit netflix (i have other ways to view shows and movies) so i came out aheas if the game…

  • Nate

I am suddenly reminded of a classic X-Men bit from the 1980’s:

“You puny, pathetic human – to think you could take a telepath by surprise… or that your gun would be any threat to a telekinetic.”

  • Derkins

Guy really isn’t to smart, making those threats after he just watched Cory rip out an entire wall. Don’t think this is going to end well for mr. bad-dude. :p

  • Jason Moon

Great, Cory’s just made a terrible situation MUCH WORSE. While I applaud the impulse, does he have any actual battle skills?

  • Pikinanou

I want to cheer Cory but I also want Flyboy to punch him at Mach 2! I dunno which one I’d like best!

  • Diviana

Cory, I know you’re comic character but in real life you should just attack and not given your opponent a warning.

    • Klaus

Cory is really out of his depth here. He has no experience with this sort of situation, and no time to think ahead.

      • Diviana

On the fly, instinct wins over common sense. I was hoping Cory would hae better instincts but then we wouldn’t have a story.

  • Shinashi

granted, stealing from the mob is pretty up there in danger level

    • Klaus

Not quite so high on the brightness scale.

    • purplefoxglove

Does Anni still have ties to the mob..?

  • Ninhursag

It’s about time Cory realised he could kick Ivan’s ass easily.

  • bronakopdin

I totally agree with Cory’s sense of righteousness though I just hope we won’t see more gun wounds here >_>’
Maybe if they do work together, Mitch and Cory, they could somehow distract Ivan… maybe… yet I think it’s too dangerous… I’m scared and don’t want them to be hurt ;__; Mitch is enough already…
gah I’m so whiny these days, why is that?!?!
it’s not that I don’t love the action xD

  • Bifrons

Legit, Ivan’s talking a lot of shit for someone like two feet away from a telekinetic.

  • Just FYI, I won’t get to post for a while, as I move to the other end of the state (about five hundred miles). But Missy and I will be thinking of you.

    • Hope you have a problem free move.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Good luck with your move!

  • Shjade

Cory, don’t — *sigh* If you’re going to throw him into a wall or something, don’t TELL the guy with the gun you’re going to do it first. ~.~

    • Corey is young and a lot less savvy than Mitch

    • Saxon_Brenton

Cory doesn’t realise that it’s only card-carrying superheros and supervillains who can pull off dramatic statements that don’t ruin the element of surprise (as well as the ever-popular ‘lengthy philosophical monolgues in the middle of combat’).

  • davefragments

I am going to try to camp and watch “The B_stard Executioner” At the same time.
It started and all I can say is it doesn’t lack for swordplay, bloody death, vomit, and visions, all set in the 14th century under the reign of Edward the First. For those who don’t know, that’s one of England bloodiest times.

Meanwhile, back in the future with The Young Protectors, I wonder what Ivan will do today?

    • Saxon_Brenton

He’s got one shot left. Who will he choose to kill? Make your choice count, Ivan.

      • davefragments

I think that gun fires more than six bullets. Most likely 9 or 13. Not that I have any experience with automatic pistols. Long ago a couple .22 revolvers was fun.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Hi Dave! Hope you enjoy your movie. Sounds a bit much for my tastes, but hey, have fun.

      • davefragments

It’s a new series on FX. Either it or politics. I’m tired of politics.

        • stickfigurefairytales

Yeah, I’d pick the bloody death and vomit show over politics too.

          • davefragments

I joke that my house has the Judge Judy Hour just to avoid politics.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Oh wow, I just noticed that I’m now on the list of top commenters! That’s so exciting! I feel like I should have had a speech prepared…
