“The Stockton Sentinels”?! But Mitch is with The Young Protectors, right?! Oh, no — I think our young hero must have become delirious from all the blood loss! Stay strong, Mitch! O_O

Earlier this week, over at the Patreon Page, $5+ backers got to see a sneak preview of Adam’s pencils for The Annihilator’s Romance Card art. Here’s a sneak preview of that sneak preview:

I wonder what he’s smiling about, hm?

So! Looks like Flyboy is trying a bluff. Will it work? Will Ivan just drop his weapon and come out peacefully? And if he doesn’t, what is Flyboy going to do?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you then! 😀

  • Liar liar….pants on fire. Hey, you need Redhot backing you up there!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Good catch!

      • Did I?? Lately it’s hard to tell sometimes. 🙂

        • stickfigurefairytales

I think so. You showed up as first when I refreshed the page, at least.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Oh, is this the story of how Mitch got kicked off of his first team?

    • He mentioned a few pages ago being with the Young Protectors. So I think he’s fibbing.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Ah, you’re right!

  • davefragments

And he compounds his problems with lies. He should listen to the “Evil Overlord” and Never Monologue or reveal anything — just whack em and whack em hard.

    • stickfigurefairytales

No, when a *hero* does it it’s stalling for time!

      • davefragments

Ivan doesn’t believe him. Ivan has his number! Ivan is totally PO’ed.

        • stickfigurefairytales

But the longer Mitch can keep Ivan talking, the more time that will buy him (Mitch, I mean) to think up a better plan.

          • davefragments

We hope a better plan. However, Ivan doesn’t seem to me to be the one to stay still. He knows that he shot Mitch and he doesn’t care what sort of superpower Mitch has. Ivan got gun, big gun. He fire gun. he kill stupid boy. Does that take more than six or seven active brain cells?)

          • stickfigurefairytales

Well, it’s still a prequel comic, so I’m fairly confident that Mitch is going to make it out alive.

          • davefragments

            yes.

          • One reason Doki isn’t completely freaking out. ^_^ Doki is going to be doing that a lot as soon as the main story picks up again.

  • Mitch is just so adorable. I just want to pinch his checks.

    Bluff or Mitch being sneaky?

    • Michael

Maybe he IS a member of the Stockton Sentinels? Under an assumed name and all, living a complete double-life?

      • Klaus

        In his secret secret identity.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Doki, you’ve got a new icon, I see!

    • Klaus

He is trying to be sneaky. He is not doing a very good job, though, If Ivan was in any doubt about Mitchell being alone before, he is not now.

  • Holly

Lies will get you no where Mitch! (sad i missed the camp)

    • *hugs Holly* I have a pizza in the oven, want some sweet?

      • Holly

        yay ‘za

        • It is only cheese pizza but it just came out of the oven. ^_^

          • davefragments

Oh, I’d sell my soul right now for hot pizza. You guys are killing me tonight!

          • Holly

I just ate a whole pint of “If I had a Million Flavors”

          • *passes dave a slice*

          • davefragments

            thanks

          • Me too!

          • Holly

            OOO GOOEY.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Hi Holly! Glad you could make it now, at least. 🙂

      • Holly

but the camp is always the best part, excluding the actual new page

        • stickfigurefairytales

It’s true – camping is very fun. Next time?

          • Holly

I can’t do the Wednesday/tuesday camp because I have work in the morning. I just got distracted today by Titan’s fall

          • stickfigurefairytales

Yeah, I’m having to adjust to that myself (the having work in the morning part). *pats you sympathetically*

          • Holly

            Mornings are dumb

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Agreed.

          • bandanajack

mornings are the perfect time to go to bed after watching movies n tv shows online all night… after all the neighbors have left for work…

          • or after not being able to put a book down….

          • bandanajack

that frequently used to be the case from the time i was 8 and reading under the covers with a flashlight until my early 60s when reading books became too much of a strain. i still sometimes get hooked on a story on kindle, where i can adjust the background color and intensity, and the font size and contrast level.

          • Doki has also stayed up late reading fanfic ^_^

          • bandanajack

my flashlight reading choices were most frequently heinlein and asimov

  • Michael

Oops, I completely missed camping. All for a good cause, of course, I had to find and then wrap a present for our neighbour to whose birthday party we’re going later this afternoon. two 500g cans of his favourite instant coffee ought to do it. 🙂

    • stickfigurefairytales

Nice! Hope you have a great time!

      • Michael

It should be pleasantly bearable for the first half hour or so.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Then escape time?

          • Michael

Then endurance time. Escape won’t be for an hour or two at least, for politeness.

          • stickfigurefairytales

How about short trips to the bathroom for the purpose of having a break?

          • Michael

            I have escaped!

For the record, I do not do well in crowds of people I don’t know that includes young children screaming and running around.

          • bandanajack

empathy.. see the new updated definition of introvert. not shy, just utterly drained by prolonged social interaction. introvert’s go to ground to recharge, extroverts go party…

          • Michael

Yep, that’s me. Got to have my alone time after major social interactions.

    • Klaus

      Now you’ve spoiled the surprise.

      • Michael

No, he loved it. Mum goes over there once or twice a week for coffee, so he joke-complains about how much coffee she drinks. Sort of a running joke between them.

  • Heh, I wonder if the Stockton Sentinels might be Mitch’s name for those that help him with his extracurricular hero work? To be part of his nighttime cover?

    • Holly

Not going back to find it, but wasn’t it covered somewhere that a “REAL” super team wanted mitch despite his age. Maybe that’s them, and he just name drops despite turning them down.

      • He was on the Connecticut Cavaliers until he got caught doing hero work after hours and got fired.

    • Diviana

Maybe the Stockton Sentinels are well known in that area and he dropped that name to ensure that the baddies would be scared.

      • Well if you want to go with the obvious….. 😛 😉

  • Sapfo

The secret life of Mitch. This young hero is a hero, who is also a caped crusader. He also enjoys drinking tea with the grandma squad 😉

    • With the occasional cups of hot chocolate for those extra stressful days. ^_^

    • Adam Black

The Grandma Squad has the best cookies

      • Sapfo

that is true, and they know that good cookies it the best way to fight crim

        • Adam Black

I’m sure there are swedish horror movies that start that way.

  • Diviana

Mitch, I really hoped you have something to back your bluff.

  • Claiming himself a part of the local ex-team group? Guess it’s a better attempt of a bluff than saying he’s with the police.

Now, what’s Mitch going to do next? What about Cory? I’m starting to count on a respons will be needed from both of them. It’s about time Cory decides which way he’s going here.

    • Now that I’ve seen and replied to both (+ ‘Wish and will’), I’ll wobble back to bed fr a couple of hours… and it is wobble xD

Status after first whole week at work. I ache, can barely bend/use my back and I have bruises all over, and bruises ON bruises. I’m not even kidding. Some of the same spots, days in between *lol*
I can’t wait till I’m a little more used to the work and none-bruised (right now my body almost looks like I took a beating which might not be that far off), and to have some more energy to be online and commenting again. Tired, so damn tired.

  • Jeldenil

Obviously he is talking in code and ‘Stockton Sentinels’ really means ‘blast him, Cory’. I hope Cory understands this too.

    • purplefoxglove

      That’s what I was thinking, too 😛

    • Ha!

  • Klaus

When I search for “Stockton”, the second roffered by Google is ”

The 10 Most Dangerous U.S. Cities”.
We know from chapter one that there are two regional teams. We now have two names. While Stockton and Connecticut are in opposite corners of the US, they are not names you would assign to two regions covering all of the US between them. So I take it that the regional teams are the major league, and the Sentinels and Cavaliers play in the minor leagues.

    • Michael

I would be really surprised if there wasn’t at least one team for each major city, regardless of league.

      • Klaus

That would depend on how many supers there are.

        • Michael

I gather they’re not terribly uncommon. Even if they’re only 1% of the US population, that’s still over 3.18 million supers spread through the country. There;s bound to be at least four or five in each major city.

          • Klaus

1% is far too many. They would totally dominate the world.

    • ikeamonkey89

I live in one of those most dangerous cities, woo hooh! 🙁

  • dereule101

Stockton has its own ex team? Alternate universe, indeed.

  • Love the artwork in this. The thing that really caught my eye as I scrolled down was the cards and chips scattered over the floor. The finely grained detail makes this feel like a real place.

  • Kate G

    I. Missed. CAMP! I’m sorry! I can only blame the fact I had to deal with my nephew (who is cranky as hell from teething), Zena (who is crabbier from surgery but can’t show it because she’s knocked out on pain pills.) I had to find peace after one left (THANK GOD. Good bye nephew!) and one went to bed (sleep tight Zeebs) with a well-deserved shower. Poor Zena has a huge incision; it is literally five or six inches long. It’s HUGE. Poor baby.

I hope Mitch has something up his sleeve by bringing up the Stockton Sentinels. We don’t know who they are yet except they must be a team of supers (or ex-supers?), but he best be forming a plan quickly. Things are not looking good for dear Mitch and Cory (brothers? friends? brothers in arms? I’m thinking more brothers in arms at this point as they both have powers and know each other.) Think, Mitch, think and think quickly!

  • bandanajack

hey guys, another visit from me BEFORE everyone has visited this page. i spoke with alex and he has graciously allowed me to post a special gofundme request for help with a move, promise i won’t pop up again this way for at least a month, and if i make my goal i’ll just post a giant thank you …http://www.gofundme.com/bigislandmovefund

  • what will Mitch do?

he’ll Super Sonic blast dat ass, of course!

  • Nate

In my experience, the really dangerous ones never SAY they are dangerous. Shows a lack of confidence.

That being said… blitz his arrogant ass, Mitch. 😉

    • Michael

True, it’s the quiet ones you have to look out for. The ones who sit up the back and watch the room. Who don’t buy into the macho contests or need to prove their manliness.

The ones who, when you threaten to fight, put their fists up and say “c’mon then.”

      • Nate

Or just knock you out with one punch, and go back to their drink. 😉

  • Pikinanou

Me: Of course, he’s dangerous, he’s got a goatee!
The Annihilator: *strokes goatee* You got that right 🙂

    • Klaus

Where is Dalilah when you need her?

  • I seriously doubt he’ll just drop his weapon and give up, especially if he doesn’t believe Mitch. And even if he does believe Mitch I still don’t think he’ll do it. He’s got a roomful of unconscious people who can’t fight back to use as hostages, and he’s got his two accomplices to use as well, including a kid. He probably thinks he still has the upper hand. And honestly…he does, unless Cory decides to work with Mitch against him.

I’m glad that Cory remembers Mitch and is concerned for him. I’m also glad that he’s aware of just how dangerous this jerk is. He’s a good kid with some potent powers, so hopefully he’ll choose to help Mitch. And hopefully Cory’s brother will support that decision whether he also steps in or not. I mean, he seems to have genuine love for his brother but managed to get them both in over their heads with this guy, so I don’t think he’d turn on Cory or even just bail without him.

But, if Mitch can get him to at least doubt his assumption that Mitch is by himself, then maybe he can make him nervous enough to slip up. Thing is, that runs the risk of backfiring by making him nervous enough to attack Cory and his brother since Cory clearly knows Mitch. If he decides that this was a set-up from the start…well…

That was a curious name drop, though! Could this be before Mitch was even with TYP? Maybe he is usually with these Stockton Sentinels (although, I gotta say I’m not a sports person but that sounds a lot like a sports team lol) when he’s not acting on his own and this is the incident that gets him caught and kicked out? It has been mentioned that TYP takes the “rejects” that nobody else wants (except for Spooky, who apparently everyone wants and he turns down because he likes TYP and helped found it with Amanda? If I remember right…). But for some reason I thought Mitch had been too young for anyone else to want and that’s why he was with TYP. But, I’m also not confident on that, so I might be remembering wrong. If I am wrong and he was with another group first, then maybe it was the Stockton Sentinels. Just speculation and guessing. A lot of it. :p And probably most of it completely wrong. But, it’s still fun to do!

    • Mitch was with the Connecticut Cavaliers before he got kicked off the team for his hero work after hours. That is why he is with the YPs.

      • davefragments

I think that Mitch oddly be more romantic if his old team was based in Italy — The Verona Cavalcantes and they used Mozart’s Turkish March as their theme song. But then, I’m very weird this morning. Blame it on two back-to-back watchings of FURY ROAD.

      • Thanks! That does sound familiar now that you mention it! 😀

    • Klaus

What group is he with? http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/typ/ete-flyboy-bonus-page-2/

The security guard is most likely calling for backup. Flyboy will know, if he is paying attention. Will it be the police? Or the gangsters who own the place? Either way time is running out.

      • davefragments

What if the security guard returns and shoots Ivan, completes the robbery and blames Mitch? That would be a twist.

        • Klaus

Or if Mitch shoots Cory, completes the robery and blames Ivan. Now that would be a twist.

      • Thanks for the reminder and page link! 😀

    • Very cool, thoughtful speculation, Lilac Mouse. 🙂 Fun for me to read.

      • Oh wow! Thank you! 😀

(*quietly in the corner* Senpai noticed me~!)

  • KatKaleen

C’mon, Cory! You just said Ivan is dangerous! You don’t want anybody to get hurt, right? You can stop this!
Good thing my hands grew back, I’m back to biting on my knuckles. O_O”

  • Jason Moon

I doubt the Stockton Sentinels exist in the Protectorverse. Chances are, there are so many teams/supers that Flyboy could have just yanked a name out of a hat and it would have sounded legitimate.

  • davefragments

This morning, DILBERT made me laugh way too hard for Sunday morning. I even giggled all through the sermon and I am so thankful that I am retired because I can name a few of the “Wally” people from real life.
    http://dilbert.com/strip/2015-09-06

    • Klaus

“I’m not lazy. I’m useless.” he says in another strip.

  • Ninhursag

Sure Mitch, hope he believes the bluff…

  • Saxon_Brenton

Meanwhile, over on Patreon and associated e-mailouts, we’ve just gotten a look at the pencils for Flyboy’s First Time card… and it’s a smooch with Cory.

This raises all sorts of interesting questions about Flyboy’s methods. On the last page Flyboy tries to talk Cory around. But is that because he knows Cory well enough that this is a sensible tactic, or because he’s blinded by affection into making a mistake? And will he try to protect Cory with a bit of a cover-up , despite the fact that Cory is (at least) an accessory to a crime? Questions questions…

    • Klaus

He has not seen Cory for three years. I think that kiss happens after the events shown on this page. Remember, this is a story of danger and romance.

      • Saxon_Brenton

Oo. Good point. A flashforward. I hadn’t considered that possibility.

        • fujoshifanatic

Maybe not. Alex also implied that there maybe some tragedy in this interlude as well, and I hate to be a downer, but…plus, judging by the age at which they were depicted in the kiss, I think the kiss happened three years before, when they were 12ish or so.

  • Ack! Thunder storm. I hate thunder storms.

    • Ugh. Stay dry!

      • It’s the noise that gets me the most. My dogs were just standing out there. I had to towel them off.

  • *chirp chirp* It is Tuesday, yes??

  • davefragments

Today is a day I need a page of Mitch and his near-do-well friends. . .
I had one screaming fit at the delivery man who almost didn’t deliver the stupidest package ever.

I finished the 5th proof copy of my anthology. It only took five weeks of beating my head off the wall because I can almost recite the stories in it.
Then it was garbage day — haul it to the road day. . .
    And finally,
I found out from my neighbor that his Sauerkraut Festival almost didn’t happen. They couldn’t find cabbage to buy and age. It seems that with the six weeks of rain in June and July and then a very hot August, the first cabbage planted rotted and the second crop of cabbage didn’t get enough rain.

  • bronakopdin

trying to fool Mr. Ivan the Angry?
Wondering whether this will work out… somehow our gunslinger doesn’t seem to like being fooled :/

  • Niggle

Wow, miss 9 updates and so much happens. At least I know Mitch isn’t invincible. Boo him getting shot. 🙁
