Hmmmm…

So! DunKid might know a thing or two yet! And he makes a compelling case for our young hero to get much more involved than he is already. Should Kyle stay or should he go now? If he goes, will there be trouble? And if he leaves, what then?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • stickfigurefairytales

That’s a…very specific random bit of memory to have, isn’t it, Dunkid?

    • NoiseShaper

The way he’s bargaining is just a little bit suspicious.

Still, this deserves exploration, and Kyle seems to be tactically alert.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Oh, it’s definitely worth looking into. But it doesn’t bode terribly well for DunKid’s claims to remember almost nothing.

        • NoiseShaper

Well, Kyle’s prodding earlier for specifically this piece of information might actually have managed to shake it loose, but Dunkid also remembered at least a piece of his previous relationship with Sircea and of her character, so that thread goes farther still…

      • Adam Black

Looks like he lost his skills in deception.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Yeah and it’s a lure for more time with Kyle. I wonder…

      • stickfigurefairytales

I’d still check the tip out for sure, though.

        • Chris Dangerfield

Oh yes definitely! It’s not going to endear the kid to Kyle though…

        • NoiseShaper

ExSec is probably already refocusing their satellites on that island as Kyle and Dunkid speak…

          • stickfigurefairytales

Nah, if I know Sircea, I’m definitely thinking she’s got some sort of technology-scrambling magic cloaking her island.

          • NoiseShaper

Disappearing a complete island that’s been on all maps before that just isn’t that much use, at least unless it’s a physical shield, too.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Depends on how big the island is. Lots of them are too small to be on many maps, and it’s possible for new ones to form if there’s volcanic activity in the area.

          • NoiseShaper

Google Maps and certainly any military map worth its data will have anything that’s bigger than a single dune.

          • stickfigurefairytales

You think? I’m not as sure.

          • NoiseShaper

Pretty much. They don’t have their satellites for nothing!

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’m pretty sure there are still significant mapping gaps over open ocean, though.

          • NoiseShaper

Satellite maps can be complete and gapless.

          • Chris Dangerfield

You make “gapless” sound salacious in a very intellectual way. Nice.

          • davefragments

Vast stretches of the Pacific have not been mapped properly or explored. They might have been flown over but never more than that.

          • stickfigurefairytales

That was my understanding too, but I didn’t know if I had really read that somewhere or if I’d made it up in my head.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Smack dab in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle is Sircea’s style. Silibub would go for a wife with her own island. (Just sayin’)

          • NoiseShaper

Satellites (and especially military ones) routinely cover the globe completely. There isn’t much that escapes them for long.

Most of the unknowns refer to the sea beds in the deep, but at least as far as their military submarines can go I’m pretty sure at least the USA has pretty complete maps of that, too (in our world).

          • stickfigurefairytales

I don’t know, but admittedly I don’t think the military would be willing to disclose exactly how powerful their satellite mapping is or if it has any blind spots.

          • davefragments

The first time anyone ever mapped stretches of the Indian Ocean was in the search for MH370.

I think ExSec has rough maps but nothing detailed enough to find one “castle” on one isolated island — or a “castle” that seems to be abandoned at some god-forsaken end of a island with a tiny village at the other side.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Would there be attractive young boys and poolside drink service…? Or maybe one of those swim up bars?

(okay I’ll stop drooling now, this is life and death after all)

          • davefragments

I have some newspaper I can roll up and smack your nose, bad boy…

          • Adam Black

            Wearing Blanched Bone Thongs

          • D. G.

            Ha!

          • NoiseShaper

That’s because the search for MH370 was all about the deep sea where satellites can’t look (with any precision).

On the surface, though, they have complete coverage.

          • Chris Dangerfield

It’s probably next door to Dr. Evil’s island and they share satellite jamming costs.

          • Klaus

She could just make the island appear uninteresting. Hide the castle, not the island.

          • D. G.

            Good idea..

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Ha. So true.

    • That’s what I was thinking.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Right down to the name of the island. Convenient, no?

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Very.

        • Very very convenient. Seriously. He “thinks” she has a castle there?

          • stickfigurefairytales

Well, it could be more of a chateau. Or a fortress.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Or a well kept up 3 bedroom, 2 bath ranch house with nice curb appeal… but not specific. Noooooeeeeee…

          • True. He didnt make mention of any towers or gargoyles.

          • stickfigurefairytales

It has a white and silver color scheme… a large guest bathroom…and spacious dining facilities. But that’s all I can remember!

          • Don’t forget the pool and the weight room!

          • Chris Dangerfield

And locker rooms with snug workout wear… (huh… is it hot in here or just me?)

          • Adam Black

Lotta Slaves er I mean Devotees

          • D. G.

            Also the ritual sacrifice room.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Have fun storming the castle!

          • stickfigurefairytales

          • I’m sure they’ll forgive me for generalizing

          • Adam Black

            Easy for you to say!

Oh you just like the D-word. Watch out for D-Frag, he’s got the Admiral’s old rolled up newspaper and he’s not afraid to use it.

          • Adam Black

            That’s your “D-word” ?

          • D. G.

            Ha.

          • davefragments

Think “10 shades of red smacks”

          • Chris Dangerfield

It will be one of those unusual situation where the sequel is much better than the original. Heh.

  • Chris Dangerfield

Alex, no one does a page-tease better than you. This may be a frustrating interlude on one level, but it’s going to be a GREAT addition to the Graphic Novel.

Thank you all for this thoughtful and beautiful work!

  • davefragments

    “She’d be mad if…”
… uh what? … WHAT? … WHAT DID YOU SAY?

Is that a clue left behind to lure you to Sircea’s island? Or is that the return of the consummate Liar of Date Night?

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Well said… THAT. EXACTLY. THAT.

    • timemonkey

He already remembered enough about Sircea to think she was scary, not a big step to thinking sh’ll be mad for telling about her secret place.

    • Adam Black

No he s a totally Brand New type of Liar.

Hes just a slimeball to the core

      • davefragments

        • Adam Black

DunKid’s holding back! I wonder what other tidbits of info he’ll dole out to get some more of Kyle’s time?

    • Chris Dangerfield

And what is he “waiting” for by gaining time. Is it only because he want Kyle’s company or is something going to happen… ? Hard to know.

      • fujoshifanatic

Either way, it certainly thickens the plot, and possibly (and sadly for me) tarnishes his claims of amnesia…

  • Eris, elder daughter of Nyx

Don’t let them torture Dunkid, Kyle! You’re a hero! This is the kind of thing you signed up to stop!

    Please?

    • Chris Dangerfield

Well he just basically said he has some of his powers… he’s healing. Whether it “hurts” (boo hoo) or not is just his word of this moment. Might be true or might be acting. We’ll see.

But I do agree that torture is a no go…

      • Adam Black

I object to Cutting up Dunkid, just to watch him restitch like the creature in The Thing.
It’s just terrible this happening and we don’t get to watch.

      • timemonkey

Does he have powers or is this part of his devil deal?

        • Adam Black

That’s what they are torturing er “testing” him for

      • He made a deal with Laampy about eternal good health, so this could be why he’s healing and not his previous powers. Or it could be both.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

Me thinks DunKid is beginning to carry a torch for FlameBoy……all over again!

    • Chris Dangerfield

Well he always did. Didn’t he. The question is was enough baggage “really” swept away to allow him to acknowledge it?

      • Wayne Lunkwitz

True, Kyle needs to be careful here or he’ll get “burned” again.

        • Chris Dangerfield

I need to believe that Kyle has grown up and he wouldn’t be so “young” again. Boy oh boy do I need to believe that.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’m pretty sure he has grown up.

          • Adam Black

            It’s not that easy.

          • Chris Dangerfield

It doesn’t have to be easy, but I can’t love Kyle if he’s THAT self-destructive AND stupid.

          • Adam Black

Sure you can. Look at him.

          • Chris Dangerfield

No, I need him smart enough to understand that I’m perfect for him. If he’s still going to let Duncan goof him then he’s a waste of time. Pretty only takes you so far. Good in bed requires brains also. No?

          • Adam Black

Then firecrotch puts on the tights and makes the bed , and you sucks you back in. Are you going to say no to him?

          • davefragments

Your discussion reminds me of a few pages of OGLAF (extremely not safe for work or children) where the hero has to oil down the fire-b___es of something or other and is forbidden manual relief by the sorceress.

          • NoiseShaper

            Blasphemy!!!

          • Adam Black

I prefer the Oglaf Coloring Book more suitable for all ages.
Everything is clearly labelled for young minds to remember.

            Oglaf Crosswords are fun too

          • davefragments

            🙂

          • Midwestmutt

I still read Oglaf but it seems more bizarre than funny anymore.

          • ofwaterfall

I remember someone helping Kyle accept himself and insisting that being gay or struggling with his powers didn’t mean that everyone would look down upon him. Yet, the comments are filled with hate for the character who helped Kyle mature. Weird.

Kyle is better as he is now. He’s better confident and honest than than as the self-hating kid who believes other kids can’t respect him as a hero if they know he’s gay.

But I also liked Duncan. I need to believe that this kid will grow up less gullible but also less isolated than The Annihilator was.

          • Adam Black

That was in spite of Duncan!

Duncan left him humiliated, damaged , Traumatized and scarred.

It isnt “weird” , that half the fandom hates the Villain who abused the hero. If you read the comments on the pages when that happened, you would understand why people feel the way they do.

There were thousands of comments that month. For fans that read it page to page that abuse to recovery , was in slow motion over two years.

          • ofwaterfall

That makes sense. Superhero fans tend not to root for the villain, anyway.

It’s uncomfortable coming in as a newbie learning that your favorite character is the least liked, but I knew better than to look at the comments the first time. Too late now to give up without giving up on the comic.

          • Chris Dangerfield

I hear you… I’m just weak for happy endings all around. Okay maybe Sircea needs to learn a lesson first.

          • Yeah, she almost killed Mitch! >:-|

      • Adam Black

Actually I kind of have the urge to beat this kid up.

Now i see why he was bullied in the first place. Hes a lying sniveling little weasel backstabber. NOW. as a “kid” . he deserves all the nuggies and swirlies they give him

        • ofwaterfall

Kids deserve to be bullied for not coming off as likeable enough? Wow. Harsh world you live in, Adam.

          • Adam Black

When they are narratively known to be Terrorists,
( and sexual assaulters , and lying scum ) … who also open portals to hell…
—-and NOT really kids, then YUP!! Swirlies all the way.
I’m volunteering to Exsec for Nuggie Details.

I KNOW, right? My world is HARSH.
( I cant even hate on an evil fictional villain, without anonymous strangers practically accusing me of child abuse. )

To each his own. Enjoy your Villain Shipping.
I’m not giving up Team Pitchfork, so easily.

          • ofwaterfall

Not child abuse. Advocating bullying. I’ve worked with harassed kids for years and had a sucky childhood as the well-known sinful freak, so I’m less than happy seeing comments about how anyone, even a fictional character, “deserves” to be bullied because he makes someone feel violent.

I am sorry that you feel as I’m attacking you. Wave your pitchfork all you want. I’ve got other places I can go.

          • Adam Black

            Ofwaterfall,

I think from your comments you are newer to the comic or the fandom: Welcome aboard.

The Fandom LONG AGO made peace with different “factions” —-that naturally occur when a comic like this that has controversial content.
And has a somewhat abusive romance romance between a Hero and Villain.

These naturally occur , and fans should avoid starting Flame wars over it. We dont flame each other.

Sometimes when a new fan comments, if they are unfamiliar with the language and styles of the fandom their instinct is to wonder why its its wrong ,
Or blame or shame that part of fandom.

The same Freedom that allows a fan without shame to romantacize the Villain, To “ship” him/her/them, allows other fans Also without shame m express their anger over villains without being silenced. Or switch back and forth.

You dont have to like my feelings about a fictional adult villain ( currently pretending to be a child to gain sympathy ) . Thats OK.

but fans should remember they are about a fictional character. ( who is an abuser.) And all fans are allowed their to express their anger , OR affection.

Feelings are NOT in themselves wrong.

Since you have “worked with harassed kids for years” then you may know people have strong feelings about abusers, and no one person gets to tell them when they chose to forgive.

( For whatever reason your prior response seemed to interpret my original comments, ( about the potential character of Dunkid ) to be against victims and NOT abusers.

That is something for you to think about why.
            —-You might have been kidding.
I dont need you to explain or justify that.
Only I know my life experience. )

            All fans are free to express positive feelings for Duncan and the Platinum Priestess ( including yourself ) either sincerely or ironically ;

And the Fandom as a whole will cheer them on without shame

Fans can also express pleasure in seeing their full comeuppance, and vengeance. Also without being shamed. This is a superhero story, afterall.

The fans that hate Duncan are NOT in conflict ( other than jest ) with the Fans that love him. We are all friends.

I did NOT name the fans that havent forgiven Duncan “team Pitchfork” , the Duncan-shippers did.

It was made in jest years ago. ( i liked team Justice or vengeance ) . If you decide to leave I hope you dont feel I chased you away.

But we learned a couple of things caused problems….

Transferring our feelings about the fiction onto the real lives of the other fans, is a bad idea.

For example , If a fan loved and forgave Duncan, we wouldnt shame him or her and accuse them of siding with abusers IRL . Because we leaned as a fandom that poisons comments, and causes flame wars

Making personal accusations and using a lot of “You” statements is also disallowed. Alex has an extensive FAQ where he explains this.

When a fan says things like: “wave your pitchfork all you want” , “Kids deserve to be bullied” , “harsh world you live in” ,
It could be a joke and thats actually cool with me,; and I certainly wouldnt need an apology.

( But it seemed serious. )

I dont want you to feel attacked either. Nobody should feel personally attacked, Its fiction.

            Peace, Adam

          • NoiseShaper

I’m just with him insofar as there is no viable justification like “He just made me beat him up because I just happen to find him so unlikable!”

That’s not an excuse for being a jerk, and even less so for someone in a position of power(s)…!

    • davefragments

He saw Kyle back away and not hurt him.
If Dunkid is truly amnesiac, he knows Kyle treats him different than ExSec.

      • Chris Dangerfield

I hate it when you are fair minded and make so much sense… Life would be so much easier if Dunkid just twirled his mustache while his fangs descended.

        • davefragments

I don’t think ExSec knows much about the conversation between Laampros and Kyle or the “heritage” they share.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Yes. FACT.

          • davefragments

I also think that regardless of whether Dunkid is truly amnesiac or not that he doesn’t want to be imprisoned and he doesn’t want experimented on by ExSec.

          • Chris Dangerfield

That I can understand, unless his caretaker is a hunky Navy Seal type and there are cuddles thrown in — in a good cop bad cop way…

          • davefragments

I think ExSec is taking out its giant mistake on Dunkid and The Young Protectors. After all, ExSec dropped the ball and left eh world defenseless.
I also think that ExSec is hiding what truly happened behind some lies like “flying saucers are swamp gas” and those those bright lights over Las vegas weren’t spy planes… etc…

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Area “whatsitsname”?

          • davefragments

I’ve read that those early-to-mid-50’s “Lubbock Lights” were actually V-2 Rockets being tested after they were secretly shipped from Peenemünde, Germany.

          • Bei Dawei

            Or Buddy Holly’s plane exploding!

And I heard that 1988 Marian apparition there was really just the sunset.

          • davefragments

There’s a book titled: The Rocket Team by Frederick Ira Ordway and Mitchell R. Sharpe that has the early history of rockets. It’s worth a read to understand how advanced Werner Von Braun was.

          • Adam Black

            But Dunkid does deserve it.

          • davefragments

Duncan did but Dunkid, the regenerated version, might not.

          • Adam Black

This page shows hes been lying to excec sec and to Kyle.

          • NoiseShaper

That seems plausible, but we can’t really be sure of that either.

          • Adam Black

The red outlines are a large clue.
and he just contradicted himself 2x.

( its so obvious to me , it might be a trap to get them to the island ) .

If Dunkid is lying here, his pain tolerance might be extraordinary.

          • timemonkey

Except they have no reason to want to trap Kyle or any of the others. Especially Duncan. (Sircea probably wants some revenge, but she’d want them dead)

          • Chris Dangerfield

Works works works… Stockholm Syndrome here I come.

          • Chris Dangerfield

          • and they both have hairy chests… it is so nice to see episodes where shirts are not worn for some scenes…

          • Danno is a little short, but I think they both look good. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/eb/b2/68/ebb2681cea94745aad7031264e4d20ae.jpg

          • Adam Black

            You mean tortured.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            What? Our government? (ouch)

          • Adam Black

This kid is clearly a terrorist

            Hes getting it easy

          • ofwaterfall

This kid was an anarchist who contributed to a highly questionable method of saving (some of) the world. Remember, no one yet has presented a better solution for The Big Problem than the witch’s disturbing attempt.

          • Adam Black

            He didnt ask anybody else

          • Madock345

Who else is there to ask? It’s a magic problem. The only other magic user is Spooky, who knew about the problem but couldn’t do anything to fix it.

Better to risk ending the world a little faster trying to save it, than to sit around and wait for it to end on it’s own.

          • Adam Black

Spooky was there to ask, and he knew it.

          • davefragments

That too. I wouldn’t put both by ExSec. I have no expectations of ethical behavior on ExSec’s part.
Kyle and the Young Protectors, on the other hand, are still young and unspoiled by faceless 1984 bureaucrats.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            True that.

        • Pietro7

That is an arresting image, Chris. LOL.

          • This needs to be fan art now!! Someone draw this please!!

        • Klaus

          He lacks the length.

          • Adam Black

            whats a mini fang called?

      • Adam Black

        Hes a little liar.

        • davefragments

He’s like all teenagers of that age – secretive. Worse yet, ExSec is teaching him that he won’t be hurt and he’ll have companionship if he delivers information bit by bit. He realizes that if he blurts everything out at once, they will lock him away and throw away the key.

          • Adam Black

Nah hes like the kind that will keep lying to your face after Blowing up the world and having the mtches in his hand.

Performs Innocence…. very very badly. Tries to cover with fear and fake pleading phony niceness.

          • davefragments

I guess I’m not that cynical tonight.

Maybe it’s because I had happy movies on the TV.

          • Adam Black

Or maybe you are sick ! You didnt even taste any muffins.

          • davefragments

I have muffins for “Magic” nights.

          • Adam Black

            we should test em

            Here @chrisdangerfield:disqus

these are probably not poison. But Dave is feeling gullible.
( They might be cursed , magic roofied )

          • davefragments

“Magic” night is when I sit on the toilet and hope that poo magically falls out of my arse.
            😉

          • Adam Black

OK @chrisdangerfield:disqus Be very , VERY careful.

( Constipation, and Gullibility: A double whammy.

Less roofie , and More Permissive Grampa )

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Indeed!!

          • Chris Dangerfield

Well regardless of commenting discretion, I think you can be thankful that it’s not as Laampros said to Duncan, (paraphrase) “Something about lies dribbling from his mouth as pig’s feces… something something something…” That sounded HARSH!

          • davefragments

            eeeuuueeew

  • Justin

I feel like DunKid is definitely playing Kyle, which makes me sick because I still low-key ship Duncan and Kyle =(

  • well huh… I could see him using this as a way to manipulate Kyle

  • So you dole out bits and pieces, Dunkid, make it seem as if you’re “remembering”. Bah! I’m on to you!

    • Chris Dangerfield

      No muffins for him. Right?

      • NO MUFFINS!

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Thank yew!

        • Adam Black

          Cardboard Muffins, and sand frosting

          • Chris Dangerfield

Now you’re talking. No poison taster needed!

          • Adam Black

No we have to see if he’s immune to poison too. Science never sleeps.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Dr. Adam… ladies and gentlemen. I bet you already work for EXSEC…

          • Adam Black

            Shhh

        • Wayne Lunkwitz

Who needs “Muffins” when “Hot Buns” are that close???

    • Adam Black

Yeah, all this teasing and no payoff , is why hes being tortured.
      He never learns

      • ofwaterfall

They’d torture him anyway. They’re as curious about his powers as what he remembers. His memory seems to be the only leverage he has, so of course he’s not going to give everything up at once–assuming he’s actually remembering more than bits at a time.

        • Adam Black

well for narrative purposes, thats how he got into this mess.

  • Nate

OK, something isn’t right here… that last memory was too detailed….

Dunkid, you have some ‘splaining to do….

    • Wayne Lunkwitz

      Yes he does!

    • Chris Dangerfield

Straight the moon Dunkid… Straight to the moon! (Oh wow i REALLY just aged myself.) LOL.

      • Pietro7

Wait, you can’t be old enough to remember the Honeymooners, can you? I never liked that threat of violence and didn’t think it was funny.

        • Chris Dangerfield

Agree now… Well it was re-runs and I was like 7 and had no idea how misogynistic that show was. Well, all 50’s and 60’s TV reruns were. This didn’t become a discussion kids could understand back then until I was probably 10 and my mother started pointing stuff out. Only white heterosexual people existed on television in those days.

          • Adam Black

really? i thought it was g-rated you could make a cartoon out of it. with dinosaurs.

          • Bei Dawei

            And Winston cigarettes!

          • Adam Black

            Yabba dabba

        • D. G.

          I didn’t like it either.

    • Ulysses Paxton

Way too convenient, but just last minute enough to be tantalizing for Kyle. Especially to play upon Kyle’s desire to get to the heart of the matter. A thread here, a thread there, and suddenly there’s a web to catch the unsuspecting.

To paraphrase a famous admiral: It’s a TRAP!

      • Chris Dangerfield

        I smell romantic Spooky rescue… Mmmmmmmm…

        • Ulysses Paxton

Spooky flies in on that dinobird, rescues a certain redhead and then they fly off into the sunset.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I was thinking more like Spooky flies in to apprehend PP, then Kyle comes and rescues him when she springs her trap.

          • Ulysses Paxton

Sounds more like a completely new story arc! Cool!

          • Chris Dangerfield

            WIN WIN!!!! Whoo Hooo.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            OKAY YES PLEASE TO BOTH.

          • Adam Black

            They won’t recognize her now.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Do you think she changed her hair like Scarlett Johannson in LUCY?

          • Bei Dawei

It’s the secret origin of Raven!

          • Chris Dangerfield

            YES PLEASE!

    • timemonkey

It’s not really surprising that he remembers more than he lets on. If this is how he’s being treated while remembering nothing, imagine what it will be like if they know he has valuable information and he might remember more if they push hard enough.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Well watching Kyle walk away like that would have me making up new islands right and left… Ba-dunka-dunk.

        • Adam Black

          I bet. Like Dubai.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Nice hotels tho… if you have no conscience and lots of money…

          • Adam Black

            damn, So close…

            how many times you been?

        • Bei Dawei

I live on a Pacific island. I’ll keep an eye out.

          • Adam Black

            sweet. where?

        • D. G.

          Heh.

  • Chris Dangerfield

Golly, that’s why they get away with so much bad stuff. Darn.

  • stickfigurefairytales

He already had his mini-arc of learning! No being mean to Mitch!

  • You want to see the Precious hurt? O.O

    • Chris Dangerfield

No no, just a growing experience for our pup. He’ll love you all the more for it. LOL.

  • davefragments

A big “WHY?” in my mind is “Why does ExSec want all this information?

    • Chris Dangerfield

Being shown up by 18 year-olds is tough for crochety old politicians. Don’t watch much CSPAN do you? Heeeeeeee….

      • davefragments

You have no clue how big a political junky I am.
        😉
Why just today, … never mind…

        • Chris Dangerfield

OMG you’re getting that Alex habit of leaving us hanging… RUN HE’S CONTAGIOUS….

  • davefragments

Is the “Blanch” part a tribute to Blanche Dubois or Blanche Devereaux…

Personally, I think Blanche Devereaux is the better candidate for Sircea.

    • timemonkey

Any island named after Mrs. Blanche Devereaux can only be a place of good.

      • davefragments

Can’t you just see her sharing an apartment with 3 other little old ladies with blue-gray hair and matronly shoes?
It’s the Mahjongg game for the Ages and domination of the world.

        • Jeff Baker

OMG! We just got done watching Rue on three episodes of “Maude!” 🙂

    • Pietro7

It probably just refers to the color of the bones – sun-whitened, or blanched. (How depressingly practical of me.)

      • davefragments

Yes, but she must have a “Stanley” hidden somewhere in that castle.
And at nights they play “Mistress and Stable Boy” … with whips’n things

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Okay… go on…. 🙂

          • davefragments

            I refer you to this:
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t00a2rOUmus
(big warning, really big warning — XXX and NSFW)

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

Not sure even Blanche would go that far……as much as she talked about those types of things…..down deep she was a southern belle and a “classy lady” all rolled into one!

          • davefragments

That album was called “Bootleg” and I only heard it by accident. Country music isn’t my favorite music genre.
You are right, Blanch Devereaux would never use those words. However, late a night with a bunch of drunks in a bar named “Little Dick’s Tavern” if fits right in…

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

I was force fed country music from the time I was born…..now I can’t stand the new country or the classic country.

          • davefragments

I started out with that Hammond Organ sound and when I was 17, the HS took a field trip to see the Pittsburgh Symphony. The played Mahler’s 2nd symphony and that spoiled me for the rest of my life. My car thumps to grand opera. I also listen to Sinatra and Nat Cole and all those wonderful sounds.

          • <3

      • D. G.

I was thinking the same thing. It also is similar to the blanch bone gate/ portal.

    • Wayne Lunkwitz

I loved her catty…..way of acting in Golden Girls……I was sad to see Rue McClannahan pass away!

    • Klaus

A reference to the PP’s white color theme, I should think.

      • Adam Black

        and actual bones I bet.

  • timemonkey

Yeah, not really surprised he remembers more than he lets on, that was almost certain. I still don’t think he’s totally faking, adult Duncan wasn’t this good a liar. I do wonder how much he remembers and how much he might be able to recover if he really tries.

    • Curt Clark

Want to be with you on this camp, but Duncan was a REALLY good liar.

      • timemonkey

Not really. He said everything Kyle wanted to hear but kept breaking character and was smug basically the entire time. There were so many red flags during the manipulation that the only reason it worked at all is because Kyle (and many of the readers) wanted it to be true and underestimated the potential consequences.

  • Woah.. I forgot to change the settings on my alarm clock from getting up for work-time to camp-time (started new summer job this week and my body and brain is fried), and I come show up to an hour-old page with 125 comment (# rapidly growing), and comment threads that is more than ‘page-long’ already.

I’m still half asleep and trying to process everything, having to catch up to comments en masse and this page.
Yeah, this page. What a page. Much interpretation and theorizing can be made from it, and we can’t even be sure which info on the page is 100% correct.

Alex is so good with ‘throwing in’ these tricksy pages that makes us theorize and debate right and left.

  • Sapfo

Little Duncan wants Kyle to stay. I wonder why?

    • Adam Black

Hes plotting his escape by luring Kyle to his dungeon.
( that or Puberty kicked in and he cant takehis eyes off him . Probably both )

      • Sapfo

        Might be, might be XD

        • Adam Black

Quick grab Kyle to your dungeo— I mean Hospital.
          we will treat him there.

  • Bei Dawei

Hey Duncan, how’d you like to spend some more time in the hole?

    • Adam Black

      YES, throw him in.

      • Curt Clark

I don’t trust Dunkid, but I’m not THIS far into the “KILL KILL KILL” camp.

However you slice it (or him), what ExSec’s doing to him is wrong. If he DOES remember who he was, then it serves no purpose beyond just being cruel. If not, then they’re torturing an innocent kid with no idea what’s going on.

If he’s lying, then sure, keep him locked up, swllow the key, and let him spend eternity in isolation. But if not…it’s really not a chance I want to take.

The problem is, I don’t think ExSec CARES who Dunkid is, or who Duncan was. They see superhumans as their own toys to play with, some to set up like little chess pieces to knock out the bad guys, and some to take apart and (maybe) put back together. It’s disgusting, and I think I hate them more than I hated Duncan and Sircea.

        • Midwestmutt

I’m reminded of The Right Stuff when the medico stuck the long needle into Sheppard’s wrist and turned on the juice. The same sort of people would work here.

  • Jeff Baker

Seriously, Kyle, don’t trust the guy!

  • Adam Black
  • Adam Black

Yeah. I had you sold on “Firecrotch”
( but i forgot to give you burn cream )

  • I was the kid’s side until he gave up the location. Now, I know he’s up to something. I just don’t know what.

    Hmmm… indeed.

    • timemonkey

I’d say what he’s up to is called ‘getting away from the people torturing me before they figure out how to kill me’.

  • David Welbourn

Interesting. Assuming DunKid is telling the truth, him remembering this snippet of info implies that all his memories are potentially restore-able. Which would turn him back into a potential menace and a potential love interest. And I’d also feel somewhat better about a _Duncan_ with his memories back being imprisoned than a kid who barely remembers anything being imprisoned in his place.

So, I guess I’m hoping Kyle can help DunKid regain enough memories that DunKid is effectively Duncan again, or at least clearly on the road to such recovery?

    • Adam Black

“Assuming Dunkid is telling is telling the truth”
      Oh NO!
Another victi- Survivor of these ‘Roofie SuckerMuffins’ .

      ( I’m not facepalming , I just like this position. )

Dont worry, the effects will almost Guarantee , wear off soon. Just dont buy anything from the back of strange vans for the 4-6 hours

and dont eat any more. It seems you were barely effected. Thats a very good sign. We are working on a counter spell.

  • Things/questions I got from this page:

Experimenting (torturing) the fast healing boy? Bad ExSec! *wraps up newspaper*
Is DunKid healing because his old powers is activating again after the dampener-blast he got, or is it because of the eternal-good-health deal he made with Laampros? Is it both?
Still doesn’t justify doing experiments on him (testing his healing limits?) in my book. It might even kickstart a new hate for the government and ‘the good guys’ if they keep this up – or strengthen Duncan’s bad sides the more he remembers.

Leading to that memory. It’s quite logic that Duncan could have a (temporary?) memory loss when he was reset from 58 years old to a teenager. Quite a shock to the body and brain.
Question is whether he’ll regain all memories as time goes on, and/or how much he will remember and how fast.
Logic also say that Duncan keeping info to himself is smart self preservation. When you’re trapped and hurt, info like Duncan may or may not have is worth more than gold if given right – if he has an understanding of that at the moment.
That is also a question left to be answered. It can also be a question of not wanting to tell the mean ExSec anything he’s starting to remember again, because it could entice them to do more ‘experimenting’, maybe in attempt to ‘kickstart’ that memory gain.

IS Duncan trying to manipulate Kyle, because he remembers a lot more than he let on, now that the shock is over, or is he willing to share the little important info he DO have with the one who hasn’t hurt him (- yet, as there’s more than one way to hurt someone).
It’s already been said that ExSec think Duncan may be more open to talk to Kyle, tell things, than to them. If they do it yhe way they do it’s no wonder.
Do Duncan still just know Kyle as ‘the angry boy’ along with info given by ExSec, or is he feeling a connection to Kyle based on some instinct feelings or plain memory flashes?

Just a few things this page open up to, along with prior questions/theories.
The overall unanswered question is still: how much do Duncan really remember?

  • Food_Fight

“She’d be mad”?? Just how much do you remember Duncan? (I’m suspicious) Why they cut you, I wasn’t even able to understand Annihilator’s powers completely anyway. Didn’t he lost his powers or is it because of the deal with Laampros? (saw in the comments) Why does he wants to stay with Kyle so much? Too much thing to worry about…

    • Klaus

He lost his powers when the power dampener exploded. But there is no way to know how long that will last. His powers “did not manifest until puberty”, which does not really tell us if he had them at 16.

      • NoiseShaper

And at least his healing powers (which are the ones he can’t voluntarily suppress, apparently) are already present now…

        • Klaus

Probably, but it could be a manifestation of perfect health without end from Laampros.

          • NoiseShaper

Indeed, and that’s even the more likely cause.

  • bobbyjoeguy

…If he stays, it will be double!!!

    • Adam Black

      YES

  • Lots of stuff already addressed by people down page. I’m still on a knife edge as to whether Duncan remembers being the Annihilator. My feeling is that he initially didn’t, he’s starting to now, and he remembers more than he’s telling ExSec. And however much he remembers, if he’s telling the truth about the “experiments”, it’s not going to leave him feeling inclined to trust ExSec to do the right thing with whatever information he can give them about Laampros and the walls between the worlds. It will just reinforce his belief that he made the right choice when he went along with Sircea’s plan.

  • Klaus

I have a hunch that the Kyle/Spooky comic will take a somewhat different direction than what we expected until now. We will start in Spooky’s bedroom, but pretty soon we will find ourselves on a tropical island.

    • bronakopdin

I wonder where this suddenly came from x’D

      • Curt Clark

People like me who want to see our ship sail by any means necessary. :3

    • timemonkey

Didn’t he say the whole thing took place in Spooky’s bedroom?

      • Klaus

No, he said that it starts there.

  • bronakopdin

OOOH? So he DOES know some things… I really wonder about him… how much does he really remember?!
But the experimenting… I seriously feel bad for him ;___; things like this are never justified… The hell is ExSec doing…

    • Arkone Axon

They’re doing the NECESSARY THING! They’re making the TOUGH CHOICES! WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA!?

(Yes, that’s me being sarcastic. I despise such behavior – and the petty rationalizations used to justify it. This is how you ensure the kid’s going to go supervillain AGAIN… >.> )

      • Saxon_Brenton

The really dark part of my mind says:
ExSec wants to keep Duncan from becoming a supervillain threat again in exactly the same way that the military wanted to keep Akira from being a threat in the animated movie of the same name. And that is why they’re testing the limits of Duncan’s healing abilities. Don’t want him regenerating after they’ve executed him, now do they?

  • Mary Klemzak

Poor Dunkid. Hopefully that info gets them to leave him alone for awhile.

And sounds like too, that he residual feelings for Kyle have latched on, or is Kyle another young person, who’s willing to talk to him like an actual human being, and not a specemin or lab animal?

  • Cman65

For someone who doesn’t know much Dunkid is good at wrapping Red around his finger s

    • NoiseShaper

I don’t know. Kyle doesn’t seem to be pliable enough for that any more.

      • Curt Clark

Not the way Silver Fox Duncan did it. no.

But now we have a child, a weak, vulnerable, nearly helpless prisoner, afraid of his own shadow, unaware of the grand game being played around him. Just a frightened little boy with nowhere to go, who the government’s using as a lab rat. What self-respecting superhero WOULDN’T have their heartstrings tugged, at least a little?

If Dunkid’s playing games, he’s VERY good at it. And ExSec’s giving him literally all of the bargaining chips by experimenting on him, hurting him. The older, wiser Kyle wouldn’t fall for another “Dream Daddy” ruse, but this “Innocent Victim” thing? Honey for the fireflies.

That said, I REALLY don’t want this to be the case. But it’s a distinct possibility.

        • NoiseShaper

Just falling into total cynicism would be no less of a trap, though!

          • Curt Clark

You’re not wrong. Leaves us with a classic superhero conundrum.

          • NoiseShaper

Which also applies to all of us, really.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Huh. Interesting. I’d misremembered how the YP had won the fight against the Priestess, and thought they’d pushed her through the same portal as the laser not-bear, and I was all: ‘But why would the Priestess dump the not-bear onto her own island lair? Does she has wards set up in case Spooky invades and tries to use some of his demonic pokemon against her?’
Clearly I need to set aside some time to go back and carefully re-read the series.

    • Curt Clark

It goes by WAY faster on a second read. Or a third. Or a fifth. Or a — you get the idea.

I am not SAYING that the number of times I’ve gone over this comic has hit double digits. YET.

  • Caffienated

Careful Kyle. If Dunkid remembers more, he might remember you’re Laampro’s kid.

  • Karol Chmielewski

If he stays it will be duble! I want DuncKid to join the YT as the amazing immortal child! It’s cool that he has a new set of powers to replace the ones he lost. I did not think that Lampy would give him Immortality.

    • timemonkey

It was part of their deal.

      • Klaus

        Which he can not break.

  • Geneva150

Well that entire last panel made me completely distrust Duncan. He’s being manipulative again and now I’m not sure if anything he said on this page is true.

    • NoiseShaper

      I’m still split about it.

He has clearly been holding back information, but if ExSec had been torturing him I wouldn’t necessarily blame him for that.

He’s acting much less like older, cunning Duncan and much more like stumbling, helpless Dunkid in the way he’s handling this.

Duncan would be more subtle and more devious about it.

Of course it could be manipulation on the next higher level trying to just make Kyle believe that, but Dunkid might still have the option of rejecting his older self’s attitude and methods…

    • Connor

If ExSec has been torturing him, (because, let’s be real, that’s the only possible meaning of “testing to see how fast he heals,”) he’d be willing to say anything to try to make it stop. I for one don’t believe “Blanch bone island” exists at all. He doesn’t remember anything. He’s just hoping that if he pretends he does, they’ll stop “testing” him.

      • D. G.

To me, Blanche bone island sounds true because of the Blanche bone gate/portal.

  • D. G.

    Lol

  • Nirgal

My theory about this: Duncan is starting to remember things, but he’s not witholding information because he’s playing a devious game.

He’s witholding information because he’s scared of everyone, tha is the government and Silver Bitch.

    • NoiseShaper

Yeah, that looks like the most plausible explanation at the moment!

      • Curt Clark

It’s the one I’d LIKE to be true, at any rate.

    • Derkins

I agree. “She’d be mad” show’s that he is remembering everything through the lens of a young boy, and that he doesn’t want to suffer PP’s wrath. He may be manipulating Kyle, but it seems to be more of the innocent child type. As in, he’s not manipulating Kyle into demon-war-triggering-sex, but just into being there to comfort him. Right now Kyle is the only one being remotely nice to him, so of course he want him to stay and protect him.

This whole experimentation thing is exactly what I was afraid of. We all knew they’d go there, and it always backfires on the government. You’re just creating resentment and hatred in a potentially very powerful person. Once they hate you enough, you CAN’T ever let them go. It’s like kicking a dog until it turns on you, and then just chaining it to a tree for the rest of his life. Except … it’s a vampire dog, and it will live in isolation forever? I dunno. It’s just a bad idea.

  • Curt Clark

Dunkid…why you gotta? Is using pretty red-haired boys just hard-wired into your DNA?

In all honesty, this page has opened up literally all of the questions. How does he remember the exact name and rough location of Disco Diva’s tropical getaway? I mean, yes,a witch’s castle would be something that stuck out, but still…Dunkid remembers Sircea’s Pacific resort, but not the night he spent making bargains in Hell over the naked, flaming body of the boy he betrayed?

Now, this could be like the opposite of what happens to Wolverine — as he’s hurt more and more and has to heal faster and faster, Logan remembers less and less of his past. Dunkid might…MIGHT…be the opposite of that, remembering more as he’s forced to heal from more injuries. MAYBE.

My spider-sense is going off something fierce, you guys. The Commander needs to see if she can’t work some mojo on his psi-shields.

ExSec’s still on my $#!+ list, though. Screw government organizations who practice immoral experimentation on superhumans. Screw them forever.

  • Kit the Coyote

Somebody been giving Kyle interrogation lessons. hehe. I can help you but you have to give me something.

    • Curt Clark

I want to respect him for this, I do…but I simply do not trust Dunkid.

      • Kit the Coyote

As I’m looking over the other posts and the conversation again I see the concern about Dunkid but just pointing out there is manipulation going on in both sides of this interaction.

Duncan whether he remembers it or not has a lot more experience at it though so it would come naturally even if his intentions are innocent here. Not to say that they are, just that we don’t know and there a perfectly legitimate reason for him to want Kyle’s attention right now either way.

        • Curt Clark

You’re right; that’s why I’m equivocating. I WANT Dunkid to be legit, and I hate ExSec forever for experimenting on him like that regardless of how much he remembers, but again, so many people were burned by the “Dream Daddy” act from Silver Fox Duncan (see, I’m STILL calling him that) that we’re all a little gunshy.

          • Kit the Coyote

Well, as I have observed before, Silver Fox Duncan (like these titles) committed an unforgivable sin against Kyle. Even if Dunkid is all that he appears to be it doesn’t really wash away that sin, at best it gives us a possibility for some type of rapprochement and redemption but the taint will always be there particularly if Dunkid regains his memories.

          • Kit the Coyote

LIke to add I love the complexity of this story line, it is not taking the ‘easy’ way out. hehe.

          • Curt Clark

On this part, I wholeheartedly agree <3

          • Curt Clark

I both do and do not agree. Kyle will always see him like that, regardless.

However, I believe our memories and experiences make up the totality of who and what we are as people. Ergo, if Dunkid’s telling the truth and everything he remembers about himself is really gone, then the man who used to be the Annihilator — Silver Fox Duncan — effectively died in that battle. Again, assuming the veracity of Dunkid’s claims, who we have now is a fresh start…or was. Therein, I felt, lay the path to redemption and reparation.

However, trust ExSec to screw things up. My current working theory, assuming Dunkid’s trousers are not ablaze, is that the more they hurt him, the more he heals, the more memories it brings back. Again, I hate ExSec forever as of this page.

  • Mark Cothern

    Duncan is still manipulating him!

    • Curt Clark

I don’t want to believe it, but…yeah, it’s starting to look that way.

      • Pietro7

Except this is also the sort of manipulation one would expect of a teenager who is desperate. Remember that Alex is very clever. 🙂 I can still see this going either way, but I lean toward Dunkid having only fragmentary memories, and being desperate for companionship (with probably a sublimated/unaware attraction to Kyle as well). He’s probably lost a lot of knowledge and what’s left is jumbled, and therefore frightening. He really wants a friend.

        • Curt Clark

That’s what I’d LIKE to be true. But I bought into Silver Fox Duncan’s “Dream Daddy” act wholeheartedly, and we all know where that ended up.

        • D. G.

I think this way as well.

  • lordavon

Still manipulative. He might be a kid, he may be mindwiped (but apparently not) but he didn’t “regress” far enough to reset his basic personality, I see.

    LEAVE NOW KYLE LEAVE.

I like you better with Spooky anyways.

  • Jason Moon

Whetting the appetite, are we DunKid? Hmmmm…

Also, it calls into question whether or not these “tests” are really happening. That said, ‘healing factor’ doesn’t mean ‘enhanced pain resistance’. I mean, it’s just done wonders for Wolverine’s psychological state.

  • bandanajack

who’s zoomin’ whom ? seems like each is attempting to manipulate the other .

  • Diana_Christine

    RUN KYLE, RUN.

That kid is sketchy, and I definitely do not trust him.

  • Mir

My laptop suddenly won’t charge, I got my wisdom teeth out two days ago, and I have to hurry up and sign up for classes so I’ll get financial aid, just ugh so much going on but TYP never fails me. T_T

I will be on the other end and still believe Dunkid. I don’t think he’s being manipulative, just desperate.

  • Klaus

Kyle is being manipulated in a very sinister fashion here. So is Duncan. ExSec has tricked an unwitting Kyle into playing good cop to their bad cop. Duncan is reacting exactly as they planned.

    • NoiseShaper

As far as I can see Kyle is very much aware of it and even uses it as a lever on Duncan.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Actually the diabolically clever thing to watch is how adroitly Alex makes all three parties dance to his tune. We are balanced perfectly on the blades edge. Between, Exsec’s needs, Kyle’s and (?) Duncan(kid?)’s —

It’s pretty harrowing after all we’ve been through with them.

  • Evan

It’s me or Duncan is wearing sandals with no socks and he doesn’t have toes? xD

    • Mir

From what I can see on mobile it looks like socks and sandals. Which honestly should be the real reason he’s locked up. How unfashionably criminal.

      • Stephen Hutchison

Yeah but they’re what he was GIVEN. So how can he help it?

        • Pietro7

Tabi (socks with a separate pocket for the big toe) should always be in style. 🙂

          • Stephen Hutchison

Also, they’re designed to be worn with sandals.

        • Mir

          Rebel, dammit.

  • D. G.

Duncan wasn’t all bad. And at the end, he helped the team save humanity. I think it would be great for dunkid to be assisted in becoming a super hero. Working with typ. Be nice if a romance could redevelop between dunkid and kyle.

I thought it was odd when looking at the few pages before. They doubted the validity of my doubts, but looking at the comments of this one and it seems I wasn’t that off.

  • Biippa

    Tread carefully Kyle…

Also, hi everyone. I’m not too talkative, even though I ramble a lot, and socializing makes me nauseous so I apologize. But. Hi. Okay, now bye. I’ll try to slowly integrate myself here… Maybe…

    • Hiya, and welcome. Take the time you need, comment when you want to. No one demands you to be the big chatter all the time 🙂

    • Hi and welcome Biippa! ^_^

  • Funny story. A random suggestion on facebook popped up and the name was Adam DeKraker and I was like “Oh! That name sounds familiar” and I was clicking through his profile and I was like “I have no idea who this is…. So… Why does that name sound so familiar?”
So I started doing a google search and it lead me back here and I was like “Ohhhhhh. Now I know why that name is so familiar!” Haha

  • Michael

I knew the kid was holding out. He can’t be trusted.

But he also shouldn’t be tortured/experimented on without his consent and someone from Legal to represent his welfare.

  • davefragments

That evergreen tree that I complained (moaned and whined) about was laying down on the job has been removed. Turned into wood chips and pieces and hauled away.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Reading this I had a FARGO moment. Ummmmm… thanks. :/

      • Wayne Lunkwitz

Whatever happened to “Fargo”…….did it just fade away like Twin Peaks?…….and before anyone goes there …..the answer is “Yes” I am that kind of weird.

        • davefragments

The TV series just announced another season.

(personally, I didn’t like the movie)

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

            But…..isn’t that on a pay-to-view network?

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

            Such as HBO or Showtime?

          • davefragments

Fargo, the TV series is on FX which is channel 55, 824-HD, and 1409-HD on my cable (comcast)

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

What day and time ? I get FX in my satellite package.

          • davefragments

I don’t know that right now. I have multiple times for all the episodes that show up all at once when I search

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

Thanks for the heads up Dave…..I’ll search it from here later.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY…

To our longtime fellow reader, Doki.
You’re an amazing part of the community.

      • Yeah, happy birthday! I intended to camp tomorrow/tonight for the occasion, but a bit earlier wont hurt, will it?

        • Thanks b3nc0! Birthday cake for camp tonight! ^_^

Let’s top your birthday cake with a geometric array of Thin Mints carefully positioned so as to be easy to pluck from the frosting and devour. Happy Birthday!

Part 1of 3: A friend of mine brought the “Ultimate” version of the movie WATCHMEN. It’s long, over 3 hours long. Why I bring it up, is that Adrian Veldt (Ozymandias) reminds me of Sircea. Both justify benefitting mankind by brutal methods. Both say (to effect) if we kill all the same people and leave only the happy people, the world will be happy and peace and love and good things abound to all those happy people. (put like that, it’s hard to agree). However, SIrcea justifies the evil and deaths that will follow Laampros’ domination by telling herself that life will be better for her (above all) and for those “fortunates” living in the Americas. Duncan justifies it based on SIrcea’s word that this is the only way to repair the barriers between dimensions. Plus his newly gained youth is the reward for saving the world. Two philosophical equivalents — Ozymandias nuking large cities and allowing Laampros to ravage the earth as the dimensional walls are repaired — It’s not a philosophy we want to encourage.

  • davefragments

Part 2 of 3: And so we come to Dunkid and the thoughts that must be rampaging through his brain. To quote Wilde “The past could always be annihilated. Regret, denial, or forgetfulness could do that. But the future was inevitable.” How does a person recover from his decision to proceed? How does one climb out not from the mere hole one dug, but the crater of death and destruction? The first person to confront Dunkid did so with fire. His second contacts were with the human sacrifices. Remember back to the older Duncan’s conversation with Sircea about proceeding with the spell to open the gateway in Chapter 3 pages 50 to 65. That scene ends with Duncan facing the humans in the crystal cell. Duncan has second thoughts about the sacrifice involved. And that, is the question that is left for Dunkid right now — What is the worth of a man?

  • davefragments

Part 3 of 3: Faced with that, does anyone wonder why Dunkid is amnesiac? Age regression may or may not wipe out the memories. That is yet to be determined. But what Dunkid does know is that he is responsible (no maybe’s about it) for a near atrocity. This isn’t a crime that he can justify as “only his burden” like Sisyphus rilling the stone up the hill for crimes against the gods. This isn’t the absurd existentialism of Meursault (L’stranger) not crying for his mother and being executed. This is Moral Nihilism that denies morality. And that is the decision that Dunkid, in a body only sixteen years old and a mind without memories, must justify to himself and to ExSec. Old Duncan might have the wherewithal to make that argument and justification. Dunkid hasn’t got a clue… And ExSec wants to injure him up to figure him out. I think that’s why he is so closed off and so closed-mouth and shut-down with information.

    • Ulysses Paxton

Well thought out series of posts, Dave. Even though the good guys
prevailed they still have to pick up the broken “pieces.” Who can say
whether the sacrificial folks, the minions and Dunkid can be put back
together again? Spooky and Kyle help us know it’s possible, but not
      easy.

That’s what I like about Alex’s world, he gives one plenty of food for thought even as we enjoy the characters and the story line.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Thank you DFrag. Beautifully and thoughtfully expressed.

It’s part and parcel of what happens when one embraces the idea that one’s personal needs must take priority over others — and thus justify ‘means’ as… necessities.

  • Pietro7

Thinking about what sort of bones might be ‘blanching’ on an island in the Pacific, and came up with some more-or-less horrifying possibilities.
    – Whale bones, from an old whaling station.
    – Soldiers’ bones, from WW II.
    – Previous human sacrifices from PP’s bloody past (maybe she collects the bones into origami arrangements).
    I think I’ll stop there.

    • Wayne Lunkwitz

I hate to think of that ….even worse it makes me laugh!

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

Let camping commence! I have been through too much in the past several days….I need to relax into this!

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

I just realized…..the parting notes for Saturday’s comic remind me of a song I heard once several years ago…..the refrain goes “Should I stay or should I go/ If I stay there will be trouble/ If I go there will be trouble/…….So which will it be?

  • Saxon_Brenton

Birthdays for Doki today and Starrwinter a few days ago? Well, congratulations. Virtual cake for everybody.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Happy birthday, Doki!!! And happy belated birthday to Starrwinter!!!

    • Thanks stick! *hugs*

      • Has anybody heard anything from Starr recently? I haven’t camped in a long time but can’t remember any comments while browsing the pages here and there…

        • I don’t think I have seen her much on disqus, but she is on twitter a bit.

        • She’s not around for camp this often, but some of us talk with her (almost) daily on Twitter. She’s doing fine 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

I’m fighting a cold tonight so I won’t be staying to camp, but I wish all of you a good night/morning/respective time of day!

    Hello Campers

    • Saxon_Brenton

      Hello.
So, following on from the suggestion further down: if Red Hot knows he is being used by ExSec to good cop some info out of Duncan, will he now sit down and try and get some more, or will he take pity on a tortured teenager and just keep him company with talk about random stuff?

      • davefragments

ExSec is recording this and Kyle knows that. I don’t think Kyle will drop his guard because of that.

        • Wayne Lunkwitz

I agree, not only because of ExSec….but because of what the older Duncan put him through.

        • Saxon_Brenton

Yes, Red knows the conversation is being recorded. I was wondering on the possibility that having just found that ExSec is doing invasive and painful surgical procedures on Duncan that he might decide to go off script as an ‘eff you’.

          • davefragments

I am expecting a reaction to that simply because it is so damnably unethical. Human experimentation is forbidden.

    • Hello dave!

    • Hallo, Dave! Long time no see… (I’m such a lazy ass @ 5:30am)

      • davefragments

        That is early.
I try never to wake at that time.

Yay for cake! Yay for birthdays! Yay for our Doki!

        • Wayne Lunkwitz

Honestly…..think I would be better off skipping my birthday this year …..unless the fire department is at the top of the guest list…… 54 candles just might be a fire hazard! 😀

      • Chris Dangerfield

Very nice of you to cut equal sized slices… so you can have the piece with Mitch on top! 😀

  • I was opening up the movies mother bought for me off Amazon. One of them was You’ve Got Mail. I heard a loose disc messing around in there and just thought the disc had come loose. It happens. But no. Inside was the DVD copy of The Shop Around the Corner(DVD) as well as You’ve Got Mail(Blu-ray). So I have the original and the new.

I swear, every time I think I have a handle on Dunkid, more questions arise. He is such a intriguing character. Also cannot wait for the Spooky/Kyle arc. How much longer until that starts?

  • Justin White

even though he’s forgotten much his feeling for Kyle are still there
