The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Coda—Page 16

270 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Coda—Page 16

END CODA.

END “ENGAGING THE ENEMY” ARC.

THE END! 😀

Want more Young Protectors? You don’t have to wait! The next Young Protectors story arc is called “Legendary,” it’s a fun, sexy arc that focuses on Kyle and Spooky Jones, and it’s currently posting twice a week! I explain more below and here’s the link to the first page!

So, this is it!

The end of the “Engaging the Enemy” arc of The Young Protectors! A complete 500+ page full-color webcomic featuring LGBT superheroes—which has been supported by the most thoughtful, and most wonderful readers in the world. As I’m sure you know, a lot of webcomics never finish at all. And the truth is, none of this would have been possible without your support. Your enthusiasm for the comic has made these last 5 years a joy and a privilege for Adam, Vero, and me.

Thank you so much for being with us on this journey! You are all superheroes!

Can I get a trade paperback of “Engaging the Enemy”?

You can get Volume One of The Young Protectors: Engaging the Enemy right now at my store.  That premium-quality, trade paperback comprises the Prologue, Chapter One, the Interlude, and the Spooky Commander Bonus Comic (plus some special features not found here on the site.)

The remaining chapters of the “Engaging the Enemy” arc will be released in two more volumes to follow. I plan to launch a Kickstarter for Volume Two in the next 60 days. If you want to be sent an email when that Kickstarter happens, you can join my mailing list.

So, what’s next?

But we aren’t stopping! We aren’t even taking a break. We’ve already started the next arc of The Young Protectors: “Legendary.”

You can get to the first page by clicking the Comics menu up above, and choosing “The Young Protectors: Legendary” from the submenu. Here’s a direct link to the first page.

I’ve also created a special link to the most current page of “Legendary” that you can bookmark (just like we had with “Engaging the Enemy.”)

Here it is:

http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/?last_webcomic=webcomic3

If you don’t know how to make that work, please check out the instructions in our FAQ.

What’s “Legendary” about?

“Legendary” is a shorter arc of The Young Protectors comprising just 3 chapters. Once finished, it will be published as a single, super-sized (8.5″ x 11″) trade paperback (like I did with Artifice).

The first chapter will feature linework by guest artist Julie Wright (“Truth or Dare“) while “Engaging the Enemy” penciler Adam DeKraker takes a short break. Adam will resume his duties with Chapters 2 and 3. And Veronica Gandini will continue her awesome coloring work throughout all 3 chapters.

I don’t want to give too much away at this point, but this arc is going to focus on the Kyle/Spooky relationship and on Spooky Jones’ character in particular. There will be romance, and there will be superhero action.

Oh, and it’s going to be the sexiest comic I’ve ever made.

Sexy?! What do you mean “Legendary” is going to be the “sexiest comic you’ve ever made”?

As you know, I don’t show uncovered weenies in our pages here. I do that for a variety of reasons, but mostly it comes down to wanting our comics to be as accessible to as many people as possible. By not showing explicit visuals here, folks of all ages (as well as our international readers) can enjoy the comic without legal trouble for them… or for me.

But one of the biggest requests I consistently receive is to show uncensored sex scenes. I’ve been thinking about it for some time, and I’m curious to give it a try, to see if it’s something that would be fun for y’all. And, as it turns out, due to its focus on romance, the “Legendary” arc is the perfect story to experiment with this.

Other webcomics, like Teahouse, have saved their sex scenes for their printed books—and I considered following their lead—but I’ve realized that our Patreon page actually gives me the opportunity to share the art for these scenes with y’all immediately, without having to worry about age-restrictions. (And this comic wouldn’t even be possible if it weren’t for the support of our Patrons! So I’m always on the lookout for new ways to show my gratitude.)

I can show tamer pages here and, for those who’d like to see more, the uncensored pages with be available on Patreon. Which will hopefully feel like an especially fun reward. 🙂

Exactly how sexy will these scenes be?

The uncensored pages will show everything. Full nudity, including the D. Tasteful, but explicit sex, with nothing hidden behind potted plants and the like.

The whole enchilada.

So, is “Legendary”… porn?

This is still me (Alex Woolfson), writing the story.

Yes, there will be especially sexy scenes that you will hopefully find especially appealing.

But there are also important plot developments for our characters and the overall The Young Protectors story. While this new comic has a strong focus on romance and intimacy, it’s still a regular Young Protectors arc. There will be character growth, the “feels,” and even some superhero action. It is meant to appeal to y’all on every level, not just the physical.

All my comics have sexy scenes, and the story in “Legendary” is just as important as it was for Artifice and the “Engaging the Enemy” arc. I’ll just be showing more. 🙂

Who are the artists for “Legendary”?

A couple years ago, Adam DeKraker (penciler for The Young Protectors) approached me and asked if he could take some time off after the “Engaging the Enemy” arc finished before starting up again. Of course, I said “yes,” but I know how important this community is for y’all, so I tried to think up a short comic that I could hire a guest artist for during Adam’s absence.

That’s where the idea for “Legendary” started. But before I knew it, my “short comic” script had blossomed into a full blown, three chapter arc!

So here’s how things are going to work:

For Chapter One of “Legendary,” Veronica Gandini will continue to provide her amazing colors, and The Young Protectors guest artist Julie Wright (“Truth or Dare“, “Interlude 2“) will be creating the linework. Julie has a lot of experience creating NSFW comics, and I think you’re really going to like what she adds to this arc.

Once Chapter One is complete, Adam will return to work with Vero on Chapters Two and Three, expanding on and then finishing the story—and, of course, bringing his own, brilliant, highly detailed style to the sexy times!

So you’ll get to see all the new hotness with two different art styles. 🙂

At what level of Patreon support, will I get to see the uncensored pages?

Those pages will be available to Patrons who pledge $5 or more, like the rest of the NSFW content on my Patreon page.

I also have something special in mind with this arc for the $10+ Patrons. Stay tuned.

What will the pages be like here on the site?

I still want folks on the regular site to be able to follow along with the story, so all the same pages will be posted here, I’ll just need to obscure the extra sexy bits. Where I can do that by zooming into the panels, I’ll try to do that, since I think it’ll look nicer. But, if need be, I can also just extend the black gutters to cover art that’s too racy.

Of course, not every page of “Legendary” will be a sexy page, and so I’ll be able to post some of the pages here without changing them at all. I’ll let y’all know in my notes when there is sexier content over on Patreon.

What if I can’t afford $5/month to be a Patron?

When the whole “Legendary” comic is finished, it will be collected in a special, super-sized (8.5″ x 11″) trade paperback. That book will be $20 to $25, and will include all the sexy content. So you’ll still get a chance to see it there. 🙂

What if it makes me angry that there is some content I have to pay to see? Shouldn’t everything you make be free?

Of course, I understand that not everyone can afford to support our work on Patreon, even though they very much might want to. Some of y’all are students, some of y’all are underemployed/unemployed, some of y’all are living on fixed incomes. In terms of my own life, my mother is in Assisted Living, she needs my financial support, she’s not going to get better, and there are a number of things, even some small things, that I’d like to be able to afford, that I simply can’t right now. Maybe someday, but for the time being, those things are simply not an option for me. And, since this is due to circumstances beyond my control, that can sometimes feel… frustrating.

So, trust me. I get it.

But, as you know, I pay my artists a full rate for their awesome work on this comic (totally worth it), and the Patreon support is how I’m able to do that, and also pay for my own rent, etc. This is how a comic with this level of quality is able to get made (and actually finish, instead of just disappearing). It’s also how I make my living. So, I’m going to do whatever I can to make our Patreon as appealing as possible for the folks who can afford to support us that way.

There are lots of reasons why I offer so much content for free—including that it gives me great pleasure to do so. But I’ve always offered “premium content” as well— whether that was a physical book that I sold at Cons or special rewards on Patreon—and it’s actually the premium content that makes these free pages possible.

I don’t expect every reader to be able to join my Patreon. So, if you can’t right now, please know that your readership is still very important to me, and you’ll still be able to follow this story with the tame versions of the pages on this site.

And if you can offer support, then know that you are making a huge difference in my life, in continuing The Young Protectors, and in my ability to create more awesome stories featuring LGBT heroes.

You say this is an experiment, what are you hoping for?

Well, my hope is that this will encourage more folks to give our Patreon a try! 🙂

No matter how you look at it, our Patreon is a great success, and I am so grateful to you all. This is how I’ve been able to keep the comic going. But the truth is, we had a significant dip in support over the winter. We’ve built quite a bit of that back over the last few months, but we’re still down a little under $1000/month from where we were last summer and, in order for me to truly break even again, I need to find a way to return us to that level of support. Ultimately, the success of our Patreon (and the continued life of this comic) is on me. And offering extra sexy pages on Patreon is part of my plan to make being a Patron even more rewarding.

And, of course, if we went significantly beyond breaking even with the Patreon, if lots of folks liked the idea of seeing the full-on sexy, naked times with our characters, then that would open the doors to me hiring additional artists to create additional comics, etc. As well as, you know, living a more full life. Which would be awesome.

If this is successful, then I’ll do this again with a future comic. (And, if I’m able to afford to create additional comics, that could happen quite soon!) If it’s not, then lesson learned.

But it’s been something a bunch of you have asked for. It’s something I thought might be a lot of fun. (I’ve actually wanted to try writing a story like this for a while!) This shorter arc seems the perfect opportunity to explore something new. And thanks to Patreon, I now have a way to deliver it.

So, as with everything I do here, it’s an experiment! We’ll see how it turns out!

Either way, though, I hope it’s something y’all will really enjoy! Because you rock. And I want to create stories you’re going to love.

So! This was the very last page of The Young Protectors: Engaging the Enemy! What’s next for Kyle? What has Spooky been up to? And was that kiss between them on the battlefield a one-time thing… or will there be more? Perhaps much more?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Saxon_Brenton

Ha! See, told you. “Walking off into the sunset (without an actual sunset)”.

    • stickfigurefairytales

And the last virgin of The Young Protectors: Engaging the Enemy goes to…SAXON_BRENTON!!

      • Heh! I forgot to even hunt. I got so caught up in reading Alex’ page note about what’s coming. Me, the ‘hunter’ didn’t hunt. Where’s my brain this morning? xD

      • Saxon_Brenton

Wha? Hey, so I did. How did that happen?
Seriously, I’m at work in the middle of scanning book chapters for being emailed off for inter-library loans. I was only half paying attention when Dave’s notice of ‘page up’ appeared.

        • davefragments

I have such a frustrating time trying to get to the page and comment first. I try but mostly I see that blue bar of a new comment.

      • Adam Black

        I got that Beat.
I got the Virgin for the Fake Virgin, in Engaging the Enemy,
        and
I’m the Only one to do so!
        ( and I was never caught! )

    • 6 ^_^

    • Bei Dawei

And here I was, foolishly expecting a “that’s what you think!” thought balloon from next issue’s villain lurking in the shadows.

      • Madock345

Bet it’s that dude on the bottom right. Purple in a superhero comic just screams “super villain” 😉

        • Bei Dawei

How about backpack girl (between them)? For all we know, Platinum Priestess could be a Brunette Priestess now.

          • davefragments

            I always suspected peroxide

            😉

      • Saxon_Brenton

I will shamefacedly admit that I carefully scanned that background, half hoping for a cameo by a man with snakes.

        • davefragments

          a bear with glittering eyes

          • Bei Dawei

Anybody see the 1970’s “Dr. Strange” TV movie? Something like the ending of that.

          • 42

    • I’m so predictable. 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

    Can’t wait for this Saturday!!

    • Very glad to hear it, Stick! Looking forward to seeing you there! 🙂

  • unknownlight927

Really Alex? You say no spoilers but you throw out things like this is the sexiest comic you’ve ever done!! Are you trying to kill us??? 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Madock345

I think he is. I’m definitely dead.

    • 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

This is probably the dorkiest thing ever, but is anybody else excited to find out what the url is going to be for Legendary? No more “ete”!

  • Justin

It’s such a beautiful page. I can’t believe ETE arc is over. As glad as I am about Spooky/Kyle in Legendary, I do wish we can get a hint that Sameer wasn’t a douche and that him and Kyle had some fun, before realizing they were better as friends or something.

    • Madock345

Current headcanon: Kyle and Spooky are going for an open relationship because they have to be apart so often (and Spooky has to keep up his sex symbol celebrity!)

      • Bei Dawei

Maybe he’s still in love with his OTHER demon friend?

      • Justin

I was going to suggest something like that, but it seems to work out too well for everyone :p

    • Really glad you like the page, Justin!

And since this is the last page of the arc, I’m comfortable Word-of-Godding this: Sameer is not a bad guy, he’s what he says he is, and he and Kyle have a fun first date together.

  • Adam Black

    end of an Era

  • This is a lovely page and a lovely ending to this story. ^_^

  • Guess I am going to have to start a whole new V chart for Legendary… ^_^

    • Madock345

Sounds like there won’t be any Vs at all 😉

    • Yup ^_^

    • camelotcrusade

      n00b question, what’s a V chart? A romance/shipping chart?

      • A chart that keeps track of who claims the V in the comment section for each page. For TYP: ETE 123 people claimed the 552 Vs available. This page’s V was claimed by Saxon. Danish has claimed the most with 123. 83 people have 1 to their name. I am in “Fifth Place” after Sapfo (38) with 19.

I was bored one day and went through all the old pages and made a chart, I also wanted to document which pages I had claimed. V hunting didn’t start until about midway through Chapter 2 where Danish and Sapfo claimed many and claiming a V before them became quite the feat. When Patreon was taken up by Alex, Admiral Jane (94) and davefragments (42) started claiming more.

        • camelotcrusade

Lol, wat. I still am not quite clear, but through context clues elsewhere maybe you mean the first post? And why won’t there be any more?

          • Yes the first person to leave a comment on the page gets that pages V. There will be no more Vs for TYP:EtE as this is the last page of this story. A new chart has been set up for the next story Legendary. Which I can track from the beginning. ^_^

          • The V stands for Virgin. It’s the first comment on a page. It’s something that started as a bit of a game on another much camped on comic (RIP Teahouse) and spread to here, as we where much the same group of commenters back then.
It’s not as much a focused game anymore, but there’s still something about taking that V *pets V harem* 😉

          • ….”very large V harem”

  • Eris, elder daughter of Nyx

Maybe I missed it (there’s lots of text, and I’m sleepy so maybe I’m not processing great) but will there be a way to buy the digital content as an e-book? Because I don’t have the funds to do the Patreon for any significant length of time, but I also don’t have the ability to drag books around with me because I’m not stable in my residence yet.

    • Vol. 1 of this arc is for sale as eBook now. Vol. 2, and later 3. will be for sale as eBooks once the kickstarters are over and each volume has been delivered to the backers, and then released for sale online. Vol. 2 will be out later this year, and Vol. 3 early next year.

Same will be for Legendary once it is complete and out in print.

  • Bei Dawei

Congratulations to the creative team! It’s been a long five years, with many twists and turns (in real life and on the page), but you made it (in every sense), and it’s beautiful.

As Isaac Asimov supposedly said after seeing Star Wars, “Bring on Episode 2!”

    • Thank you, Bei! I’m really glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

  • Madock345

Thanks Alex. I could write paragraphs about how much I loved this comic, but I think “thank you for being awesome” pretty much sums it up 🙂

    • You’re welcome, Madock! Thank you for being with us on this journey! 🙂

  • I am pleased to be alive to see this story from start to finish. Each day is a special gift and this is one for me, thank you Alex, Adam, and Vero.

    • You’re welcome, Donald! It’s been great having you here. I look forward to hearing what you think at the end of Legendary. 🙂

  • kuku

And the rainbow flag is flying.

  • Thank you Alex, Adam, Vero (and guest artists) for making Engaging the Enemy such a great comic. Both storywise and artistic. I’m hapoy it did end on such a sweet page. Can’t wait to own it all in print and look forward to both new Kickstarter projects for Volume 2+3.
THANK YOU for all the hard work put into this.

Also, if I wasn’t already excited about Legendary, I am even more excited now.
Extra sexy pages!! ..oh my, my, my~

It’s going to be great reading Legendary in two ‘versions’, reading it here while getting extra naughty bits served on Patreon 🙂 Having already seen NSFW art on Patreon, this is going to be geeewd, and it being a Spooky focused comic (with Kyle as 2nd focus?) os something I’ve wanted since reading the Spooky short stories on Patreon. Dude has, and have had, quite an intriguing life – both good and bad.
You, Alex, has written the short stories so well that I’m hooked on gettkng anything about Spooky.

I welcome Julie back as a guest artists, she has done great before. I hope Adam get to enjoy his break, but also look forward to get him back. Seeing Legendary in two styles we already know will be fun, but (sorry Julie) Adam will always be the main YP artist for me.

*gives a salute for EtE ending* What a wild ride it has been.

    • 123

    • Thank you so much for being with us on this ride—and for being such a great member of our community and such a great mod, Danish! It’s always such a pleasure for me to read this comments section—you and Dave (and AJ and Sofia) have helped build such a wonderful community here and I’m grateful to you all.

And thank you for such a fun comment. I’m glad you’re looking forward to what’s coming next. If you’d like to learn a little more about our friend Mr. Jones, then I think you will definitely find it a treat. 🙂

  • Michael

Adam might be THE Young Protectors line artist, and he and Vero make an amazing team, but he’s definitely earned some time off for a while. Julie is an incredible artist as well, and I’m certain she will do the story and characters justice while Adam rests his drawing hand.

Thanks again to the entire team for producing such a top-notch, engaging (nudge nudge), and enjoyable story. And for making it available to us poor underemployed jobseekers.

    • You’re very welcome, Michael! I’m delighted to hear you’re looking forward to Julie’s chapter. I hope you’ll be with us for a very long time. 🙂

      • Michael

You kidding, this is the best webcomic (and best comment community) on the web. I’m here for the long haul.

I’m hoping to get a proper job soon, and then I can go back to patronising (patreonising?) you. It’s been a rough three years — one year unemployed, one year as a full time student, and one year underemployed — but the pot of gold is one rainbow away (If you get that reference without Googling it I will love you forever).

  • Zephyr10101

    My baby deserves this happiness

  • D’awwww!! Thanks guys for a great ride!! Sniff. Can’t believe EtE has come to a close.
*rubbing hands together* Can’t wait for Legendary!!

    • 94

    • You’re very welcome, AJ! Thank you so much for being an awesome mod and for helping to create such a beautiful community here. Glad you’re looking forward to what comes next!

  • Adam Black

are the background people supposed to be YP fandom ?

    • Not specifically. In my script, I talk about it being a larger world that Kyle is now more comfortable joining as who he really is. But certainly that world would include awesome folks like those in the YP fandom. 🙂

  • TwilightDreamer

What a beautiful page to finish the arc :’) I’ve loved every bit of this story….all the feels…the twists and turns no one saw coming no matter how hard we watched out for them…the wonderful artwork and the realism of the characters.
Can’t wait for the next arc 🙂 see you then! ^_^

    • Thank you, TwilightDreamer, for all those kind words! So nice having you here. I’m glad you’ll be joining us for the next arc! 🙂

  • Cman65

I’m now 52 and so wish that 30 years ago I could of walked hand in hand with my then boyfriend. Being able to do that now is super.

    • When I do it, it still feels very special, every time, for the reasons you said.

  • Kate G

Oh well, here’s saying…I’ll be waiting for the book for all the sexy scenes because…we is MOVING.

Also, have a happy holiday Adam! Go take some time off! I’m sure your hand is aching from all that penciling!

  • Amy Tombleson

Thank you so much to all of you for the incredible work you have done. Alex, Adam, Vero (and guest artists), you are all so talented and amazing! I can’t wait for the next installment in the Young Protectors. May I just say thank you for making such a unique, interesting, engaging, beautiful comic! I love how you’re always willing to try new things with the story. <3

    • You’re very welcome, Amy! Thank you very much for those very kind words! I’m glad you’re looking forward to what comes next! Hugs!

  • Shiny Gwilly

i haven’t been commenting a whole lot, but i have been here reading this entire comic from the start and i love how this arc ended, it’s just so perfect in every way. Kyle has learned and grown a lot and even though there are more things he has to deal with now (dealing with possible relationships AND any new world issues that arise), he has a lot more confidence in himself and in his team, and i’m just so happy for him
i can’t wait to see what the next arc brings! thank you Alex, Adam, Vero, and everyone in between for helping to share this awesome story! and to everyone in this comment community, i’ve said a few times before, but you all are great too 😀

    • Thank you, SG. I’m very glad to hear you’ve liked how things ended and that you’re looking forward to what we have in store next!

  • Juliette Leroux

Congratulation, Alex, for this really stunning story that got us hooked for so long. A special thank you because you opened a whole galaxy of wonderful other online comics for me and thus changed my life a little, in a very good way 🙂 Congrats also to Vero and Adam for a consistenly awesome work. I’m looking forward to the new story!

    • Thank you, Juliette! (And I’m happy to have introduced you to other webcomics that you really connected to! There is some really special work out there.)

  • Bei Dawei

I actually didn’t spot that, and had to search for it based on your comments. (I’m partly color-blind.)

  • Jeff Baker

    Awwwwwww! Wonderful!

  • Nate

Only thing better than a happy ending are two of them 😉

    • Five

      • Nate

I only see two ends on this page. 😀

        • The amount of TYP: EtE Vs you managed to snag. ^_^

          • Nate

            Actually, I think I have 3 or 4. Honestly, I’ve lost count. 🙂

          • Title Page: Flyboy Bonus Comic
            Flyboy Bonus Comic page 44
            Chapter 4 page 68
            Chapter 5 page 26
            Chapter 5 page 56-57

          • Nate

            I was close! 😀

    • 🙂

  • Awww!!!
    This was amazingly wonderful!
I have been following this comic since the very first page!
This has been a wild ride. I’ve felt so many emotions along the way! You are an excellent storyteller and Adam and Vera do an amazing job of bringing your script to life!
    You guys rock!!
I am so looking forward to what comes next, and other stories in the future.
I will forever be a supporter of your work!! 😀

    • Thank you for being with us on this journey since the beginning, jreed! (And for all your kind words!) It’s been great having you here, and I’m delighted to hear you’ll be with us for the next one! 🙂

  • Mohrovia

You’re a mensch, Alex. Love to all of you, husband included.

  • Thesseli

    Wonderful!

  • Mary Klemzak

    My body is ready.

And I really hope more people can support you on this. Its an amazing and beautiful comic, that never disappoints. I’m sure many readers do wish(like me) to support you financially, and not just emotionally, by commenting, as well.

This is a great community. I love the discussion and insights people have. Even if there’s differences in opinions, they’re handled very professionally and calmly.

Wow this got long. Anyway, I look forward to more Kyle and Spooky interactions. And the rest of the gang too!

    • Thank you, Mary, for all the kind words and the well-wishing! I agree with you about how awesome this community is here. Glad to hear you and your body are looking forward to what comes next! 🙂

  • Jason Moon

The webcomic version of riding off into the sunset.

If you do a collected omnibus of the this arc, IS THERE CHANCE THAT YOU CONSIDER DOING IT IN HARDCOVER?! WITH COOL EXTRAS AND BONUS EXCLUSIVE GOODIES?!

    Just askin’.

    • Not saying Alex will never do an omnibus, but I kinda doubt it. The thickness/weight of Vol. 1 alone is a good size. Vol. 2 + 3 will be same size or even thicker. Once the comic is out in three volumes, I think the costs of making a 500+ page omnibus in clear color/quality is a lot. Not enough sale in it.

Vol. 1 has a few extra pages, not ‘extras’ per say, but a in-comic background article for some story.

      • Jason Moon

        I know, I’m just a greedy bastard. 🙂

    • Yep, like Danish said, an omnibus is unlikely. That’s in part because I, myself, am not a fan of hardcover graphic novel omnibuses (too difficult physically to read due to weight and size). I won’t ever say never, but I’d need to be convinced that there was enough interest to justify the (very expensive) print run. By my lights, most folks would enjoy having three comfortably sized trade paperbacks more.

No harm in asking, though! 🙂

  • James Wade

Though you have to imagine that their “Have you ever done this before” talk is going to be interesting or totally dishonest on Kyle’s part.

I can imagine Kyle being quite frank about parts of it, and then simply saying “the rest is still too sad for me to talk about.” He has no need to be dishonest.

  • Jesslc

Thanks for the awesome story Alex! I am looking forward to Legendary – can’t wait to hear more about Spooky.

Free to someone who will appreciate them:
The sticker sheets and bookmark that came with the Kickstarter. (These stickers: http://store.yaoi911.com/sticker-sheets/ – The bookmark isn’t in the store – it’s Red Hot in his uniform drawn by Adam)

I supported the Kickstarter because I want to support queer comics. Sorting through my stuff recently I realized I am never actually going to use these stickers and I don’t really use bookmarks. Rather than just throw them out, I would like to post them to someone who will use them. I would prefer to send them within Australia (probably cheaper for me) but if there are no takers in Australia, I will post worldwide.

    • You’re very welcome, Jessic! Glad you’re looking forward to learning more about the Spookster! 🙂

  • Earl Patterson

Can i have hand hold too?

  • fujoshifanatic

Oh my gosh, it’s been quite a ride! Thank you so much for working so hard to make comics that I enjoy not only for the story and the art, but for the community that has built up around them as well. Like in the comic you mentioned, so many things in life can derail a comic’s progress and completion, despite its popularity or the creator’s best efforts. I admire and applaud your persistence in working through those difficulties, with your family, life and finances, to keep bringing us the wonderful stories you do, You are the type of creative professional I am striving to be, and I am so happy and grateful I have been able to support you, and continue to support you, in your endeavors, even with my limited resources.

We need heroes like you to tell our stories, the LGBT stories that must be out there to help fight the bigotry, homophobia and hate that is still, sadly, very much a part of our lives in 2017. I am looking forward to this next story arc, and I hope this new, sexier feature will be as beneficial for you as it will be fun for us. I’m sorry I’ll miss you at Flame Con, but I’m looking forward to meeting Adam, and I hope your family stuff resolves itself with a good outcome.

    • Yay! Looking forward to crossing paths with ya at Flame Con! 🙂

    • I’m sorry that we won’t be able to see each other at FlameCon, either, fujoshifanatic. But hopefully sometime soon. The only other Con I have on deck this year is YaoiCon, but next year I should be doing more, once Volume 2 of “Engaging the Enemy” has been printed and sent out to the Kickstarter backers.

Thank you so much for your support and for such sweet a comment. It’s put a big smile on my face. You’ve been with us since the beginning, so I really hope you enjoy what’s next! 🙂

  • g051051

OK, I guess I can now say that I’m disappointed with how the comic ended. I was hoping for Annihilator to have more of an arc than to simply be swept aside as a dupe. He started as one of the best villain characters ever created, but wound up as a footnote in the story.

On a positive note, speaking as a comics fan of many decades, it was overall a fantastic work with great writing and art. I checked YP every Wednesday and Saturday like clockwork because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Keep up the great work!

    • NoiseShaper

Duncan wasn’t really swept aside; He got himself locked up as a consequence of his actions and he’s clearly got potential for a completely fresh restart, for actual redemption or for a reboot of his villainous career; The ExSec “dungeon” scenes were actually a pretty good conclusion of his part of the story.

Much better than just forcing a weirdly conciliatory end which would completely negate what he was ready to inflict on the world and which would just wipe out the stakes as well.

If you want to have juicy, satisfying villains you can’t just suddenly domesticate them because the story needs to be tied up in a bow.

I think he’s better served with the ambiguous ending we’ve got, where all three potential directions remain open for future story chapters or for readers’ imaginations to explore…

There’s no doubt that every one of us has their personal favourite characters and story threads, and that it would be impossible to have all reader expectations completely satisfied.

But overall I think this entire story has been done exceptionally well right until the end by Alex, Adam and Vero as a brilliant and reliable team.

I think when you look at the entire arc from the prologue to here, the main event was Kyle’s journey, and for him the important thing is that he has grown and found a happy ending for himself.

Duncan has his own story, and as little as we know about him from before this arc, maybe we’ll learn more about where he’s going from here. It’s testament to the writing and to the artists that we actually care about that, even though he’s not the main character and even a villain.

      • g051051

I certainly didn’t want some sort of arbitrary redemption and fan service ending…what he did to Kyle would require a lot more work to repair, if it’s even possible to repair that kind of betrayal.

When I say “swept aside”, I mean literally beaten down, depowered, and removed from the story as a player in the climax.

When you go back to the beginning of the story through the “signing of the pact”, Annihilator was basically the co-star of the book, so his reduction in status was pretty surprising. Like I said, he was a great villain. A very bad guy, but with enough nuance and charm to be someone that you have to respect. I just wish he wasn’t turned into a footnote in the story that seemed (at least at first) to be as much about him as about Kyle.

        • NoiseShaper

Oh no, he’s anything but a footnote! He was crucial to the entire story, and nothing is taking that away!

He just doesn’t have a part in Kyle starting to live his new life (at least not at this particular point), and I think that is exactly right under the circumstances.

All the other heroes also aren’t a part of these last scenes, and they’re no footnotes either. This end of the story is about Kyle leaving the past troubles behind (and unfortunately that also includes what Duncan deliberately inflicted on him) and going for his own personal happiness.

Anything beyond that we’ll see in the future, but Duncan has actually fared much better than most scripted villains, with real ruthlessness and brutality, but also self-critical insight, perspective and regrets and probably with at least some real emotion, and some hints at his own personal demons.

And now he is at a new crossroads with his own as yet untold story potential.

For a villain at the end of a major story arc that is actually an excellent point to take the break, and I think it is done really well here.

          • g051051

Sorry, I can’t agree there. He just sort of … fizzled out, when (thematically speaking) he should have been standing shoulder to (grudging) shoulder with Kyle and the rest. No redemption, but something other than being reduced to a shadow of his former stature. He was “a villain”, but he wasn’t “the” villain of the piece, so I’d just hoped his part of the story would be … more.

          • davefragments

That’s an alternate ending to the story where he is conscious for the battle with Laampros and helps push him back. Then he has to face Kyle and reconcile himself with the rest of the world. In this case, I still think he would end up in ExSec’s prison cell.

However, there is another alternate ending where DunKid really has no memories of his past and The Young Protectors take him under their wing to keep him from becoming the World’s Greatest Villain again. That could end in several ways — marriage to Kyle is one way. Lots of raging sex there… Or perhaps a different variation could be sudden restoration of his memory and all sorts of villainy.

          • NoiseShaper

Or him recognizing more and more of his old memories coming back but dealing with those from his new angle at life, which may again have its own ambiguities…

There’s lots of opportunity left in this character…!

    • Chris Dangerfield

I’ve always had it out for Duncan after the date, and I was vocal about it. That said, I agree with your’s and all the smart observations in this thread.

Duncan is a hugely interesting and appealing character and a real triumph of writing. I have not idea how his arc will evolve, but I very much doubt Alex will waste such a great character and we have definitely not seen the last of him.

Now the excitement will be to see how he returns, in what form, and who he evolves into. The possibilities are almost infinite and I think that’s part of what makes him such an appealing character. Nothing one-note about Duncan in this ending.

Shenanigans WILL ensue. I’m a believer.

    • Eh, Duncan long ago was demoted from Villain to Bad Guy in my books. PP and Laampros were much more villainous than Duncan.

    • I think the point you’re making here (and below) about The Annihilator’s role in the climax is a fair criticism, g051051. I made that choice for thematic reasons and, as you can see in the responses below, it’s a choice that worked for a lot of readers. Perhaps the majority of readers. But I can certainly understand how for other readers it could feel like a surprising and not entirely satisfying choice.

There are some ways where writing a webcomic allows you to be quite nimble as a writer (for example, I can change the dialogue at the last minute—really, until I go to print). But there are other aspects (like story structure) where choices get locked in (because it’s too expensive in terms of money and time to change or add page art for chapters already created) and you have to work with what you have. I’d plotted out the entire “Engaging the Enemy” arc before we even began Chapter One, but I’ve learned a lot while writing The Young Protectors over the last 5 years. Would the story have been stronger if The Annihilator had a different role in the beginning or the end? Or if I made his role in the story more clear in the beginning (and elsewhere)? It’s something I myself have given a lot of thought to. And the conclusions I’ve drawn are going to inform my creative work going forward.

The response to the “Engaging the Enemy” arc has been very gratifying to me—it makes me feel like we managed to be successful in creating the experience for the readers I hoped to create, and in saying those things that I felt were important to say. And I’m certainly delighted to hear that you still felt a strong connection to this comic and its story, despite feeling disappointed with this one aspect.

But as I’ve said many times, I’m not a perfect writer and there are a number of things I might do differently based on what I’ve learned, if I had to do it over again. Overall, I feel like I achieved what I set out to achieve with the “Engaging the Enemy” arc. But I’m constantly evaluating all my story choices with an eye on having the next work be even more satisfying, and that includes my choices regarding the role of the antagonist in final Act.

Thank you very much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your experience, g051051. I’m glad that to hear you followed our work so closely, and were eager to find out what happened next. And, as I continue to try to grow as a writer, I hope you’ll stick around to enjoy the future arcs of The Young Protectors.

  • Susana Cervera

NO!!!:c. i want Duncan and Kyle together. omg i hate this end.

    • NoiseShaper

At this point that would have sanctioned and rewarded Duncan’s abuse of Kyle.

There’d have to be a lot of distance and redemption before that could make any kind of sense to me.

    • Something could happen later on, in the next big arc after Legendary, but honestly I believe that ship kinda sailed the moment Duncan took Kyle to -and through- hell.

  • Giada P

Duncan and Kyle together again..please Alex :'( Ducan needs a second chance..c’mon..you know that ;D Waiting to see the next arc 🙂

  • Curt Clark

Being polyamorous is awesome, ‘s all I have to say re: OTPs.

That said, I love what we have seen of Spookyle. A WAY healthier relationship than Duncan (though to be fair that is not hard), and it leaves Mitch free for his happy ending with Cory (and keeps Kyle out of trouble for statutory).

Everything else I could say, you’ve said, and said loads better. Again. :p It’s cool though, your comments in particular have been just as captivating as the main story. ^_^

    • I have read/am reading a few Harry Potter male harem fics. ^_^ Harry needs lots of love. I cannot wait for There Be Dragons, Harry to be finished. ^_^ 102 chapters so far, 800,000+ words. It is gloriously long.

      • Chris Dangerfield

When you get stuck into loving ongoing fanfic you quickly learn to take a quick look at the word/page count because it’s hell to get addicted and then find out there isn’t enough.

        Smart Doki. 🙂

  • Curt Clark

I…do not know where to begin.

EtE is over, and could not have ended better IMO.

TYP is not over, though, and that fills me with glee and anticipation. I am impressed that you’re not even taking a break, Alex — though I totally sympathize with Adam’s need for one, and I am happy we’ll be seeing Julie’s work again (especially upon learning Legendary will be a “racier” story than EtE, as Julie and Adam have both drawn incredible sex scenes…stupidsexyDuncan)

I haven’t regularly checked a comic like this since the heyday of Dominic Deegan: Oracle For Hire. Even though I am a fan of some, like Shattered Starlight (love me some emotionally-scarred magical girls) and AJ & Magnus, I am not as religious about them as I am about TYP. And since I was only able to support ONE of these three amazing comics on Patreon, well…it should come as no surprise I picked Alex’s fantastic work.

And it’s only going to get better from here! ^-^ The trade will be mine, oh yes. It will be mine.

I am here for the duration, whatever Alex comes at us with next!

    • One

      • Curt Clark

Torn between insane curiosity and not wanting to look dumb at missing an in-joke…

        ‘One’ what?

        • You have 1 TYP: ETE Virgin. ^_^ Chapter 5 page 55. ^_^

          • Curt Clark

Wow, that’s…really touching, actually. 🙂 Thanks.

          • Doki has a chart. Got really bored one day, wanted to know how many I had and thought, might as well make a chart of everyones while I was at it. Now that it is over, I thought I would let people know where they stand.

    • Yay! So glad you’re here for the duration, Curt. So glad you liked how “Engaging the Enemy” ended. Thank you so much for your support, your very kind words, and for being such an awesome member of our community here. 🙂

  • Chris Dangerfield

Totally random Duncan curiosity. Someone (apologies) said on a previous page (paraphrase) that it seems hard? cold? callous? that Kyle could walk away from that young boy in such difficulty. Nothing wrong with that observation.

I just wondered on reading that: What does Kyle see when he looks at young Duncan? Does he see a very vulnerable looking youth or does he still see the man who took him to Hell, broke his trust and faith, and repeatedly defeated him and his team until the very end. We all know that PTSD and trauma can last a long time and have very unpredictable effects on someone. Kyle was clearly locked down hard, just to get through that interview. So???

I agree that Adam and Vero drew a spectacularly appealing and sympathetic looking young Duncan. That art-work alone was the culmination of years of effort on this novel and it showed. However, unless Alex writes a convenient scene, where Kyle spills his guts to Amanda about how he felt in that interview, I have absolutely no idea if he perceived young Duncan as we got to.

Thanks unfortunately uncredited commenter for prompting what was for me a very interesting thought.

    • 12

    • Vaira

Seems like he still sees Duncan for what he is, not how he looks. And for a good reason. Dunkid claims to not remember things, but he suddenly remembers when Kyle pressures. So yeah, old Duncan I guess.
Although I may be a bit prejudiced since I hate children and their demands/greed/being clingy. 😉

    • NoiseShaper

I just wondered on reading that: What does Kyle see when he looks at young Duncan? Does he see a very vulnerable looking youth or does he still see the man who took him to Hell, broke his trust and faith, and repeatedly defeated him and his team until the very end.

      Both, quite clearly!

      • Chris Dangerfield

You’re probably right… I just realized that Kyle was holding his emotions so tightly (understandably) to get through the meeting, that I couldn’t decide what he was perceiving (visuals aside), whether he felt he needed to be there for himself or was just doing it for Exsec and it was a duty or???????

Visually there really weren’t any clues as to Kyle’s motivations except that it was clearly a very hard thing to get through.

Figures, I’m always wanting more. (Now where are those cliff-notes? Ha)

        • Pietro7

But this is a very interesting thought. Makes me wonder if Alex has plans for that scene in a later flashback, or something. (Look at me, expecting tricksy layers of emotion and meaning out of every scene – Alex has raised my expectations to stratospheric heights! But no pressure.) 🙂

    • davefragments

I think when Kyle looks at young Duncan, that he sees Duncan as he was in Chapter 4 pages 54 thru 61 where he was punching out Duncan real hard, with vigor and mucho enthusiasm. When they found Dunkid after Laampros was pushed back, Kyle almost fried him right then and there.

  • bronakopdin

I am super late today but wow I really look forward to the experimenting 🙂
Also i wish Adam a great break time and want to welcome back Julie 😀

This last pic of Kyle and Sameer looks peaceful ^^ I hope they’ll have a good time at the park x3

    • Glad you’re looking forward to “Legendary,” bronakopdin! The experimenting should be fun… 🙂

  • unknownlight927

So I’m going to ask the question I’m sure many of us have thought about. If Kyle and Spooky do indeed have a sex scene in the next arc, should Spooky keep the hat on or not?? 🙂 🙂 🙂

So many delightful and thought-provoking comments today. Thank you, Alex, and your moderators, for having created this space and attracted this community. It is a treasure beyond price, and one of the best gifts anyone could ever give.

  • Mikki

Wait so does Anni stay locked up forever? Did Anni really lose his memories? (I kind of took him glaring at the camera as a “no”…, but wasn’t sure) Do they find the Platinum Priestess? I feel like I’m missing something, but maybe it’s just me?

    • We will probably get the answers to that in the next big TYP arc that will start after Legendary is over. Maybe some answers is givern during the Legerndary story.

  • somebody

    Amazing last page.
The details!! Dude I’m such a detail lover and this page is pure genius!
Must have been a lot of work.

Can’t wait for the new Legendary stuff :3

    • Last page of the story, so I wanted to throw a little something extra into it. 🙂 Thanks for reading!!

  • Xavier McGettigan

I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented here before, but I just wanted to say how much I’ve loved Engaging the Enemy, how much I am looking forward to the future of the Young Protectors, but mostly how this comic has made me feel as a gay guy who never had heroes like this growing up, I really, really appreciate it and it makes me feel so normal and a part of something, especially with the nasty debates that are starting (and will continue) in my country (Australia) about marriage equality, makes me appreciate this all the more. Much love!

    • Xavier McGettigan

Also this art is ridiculously impressive.

      • Thanks for the kind words on the art, Xavier! 🙂

    • Welcome to the comments 🙂

    • Thank you, Xavier. Creating that experience for our readers is a huge reason why I decided to start telling these stories. Love back—you’ve put a big smile on my face.

Well, I certainly chose the perfect time to catch up on this comic!

OK……What could be better than…..”ending” with two sets of hot buns…….this ending left me grinning for 3 days!

Camping tonight! First page of Legendary to look forward to, yay! I brought peach lattice pie and cut strawberries.

    • Saxon_Brenton

      Noms! Thank you.

  • Adam Black

Last Night of Camping on Engaging the Enemy Page, ( although it looks like most people are less excited for a title paige )

As a farewell to five years I offer this quote from President Obama’s farewell address:

“That’s why we cannot withdraw from global fights – to expand democracy,
and human rights, women’s rights, and LGBT rights – no matter how
imperfect our efforts, no matter how expedient ignoring such values may
seem. For the fight against extremism and intolerance and sectarianism are of a
piece with the fight against authoritarianism and nationalist
    aggression.”

its even more topical than when he said it.

  • davefragments

    Hello Campers,
    A new adventure begins tonight.

    • Adam Black

Do we get a full page, or just a title page?

      • davefragments

It’s always been a full page in the past.

      • Saxon_Brenton

IIRC, it’s always been the title page and the first page.

    • Jac

      So excited!

    • Doki will be in and out working on finishing something that I will post. ^_^

      • Its a list.

        • davefragments

          Madamina, il catalogo è questo

        • Saxon_Brenton

Ooh. What type of list, I wonder…
(As if I can’t guess. Actually, I was thinking of asking for a certain list just to have all the info tabulated in one spot, but decided against it because it would seem pushy.)

          • After I get done with what I am doing, do you want which pages are yours?

          • Saxon_Brenton

No, that’s fine, thank you. Individual pages listing is a level of detail that I’m not craving after, just the top level summary of final totals.
(That said, other people might want to chime in on this, since it might be a level of detail that they crave after.)

    • Wayne Lunkwitz

      Hi Dave!

      • davefragments

        hello, how is it going?

        • Wayne Lunkwitz

Day three of playing “catch up” on lawn mowing……after a 1 week monsoon season here…..rained every day last week…….So, I got it done but I’m hurting in places I don’t remember having.

          • davefragments

I looked at my lawn and thought about mowing and it rained all afternoon and last night.

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

For me it’s partly me, partly the fact that the mower is over 10 years old (mulcher or bagger) ……this is the first year I’ve ever done the mulch thing.

          • davefragments

I’m cursed. I call the mowing service and it rains for several days.

          • Wayne Lunkwitz

I thought I had that covered…..Had someone set up and ready to take the job……he mowed it three times and then backed out (Family issues……his Dad is a brittle diabetic who needs supervision. He forgets his meds.)

  • Hello campers. In for the start of a new story *wohoo*. Happy we asked for it enough for it to happen, and even with what ended with two new arcs – the ‘short’ Legendary and a long one after that.

Being here for this camp is the highlight of my day today * groans*

    • davefragments

      good morning

  • Saxon_Brenton

Random bizarre thought: In the hypothetical case the patreon support had dropped below the critical level that gained us access to the script and page pencils, would the fact that we’re starting a new story mean that those perks would go away? Or would the fact that we’re still doing the ‘grand epic Young Protectors sage thing’ mean a continuation?

    • Saxon_Brenton

      Thank you Doki.

    • davefragments

      🙂 thanks

    • Great job. Thank you.

      • A lot of people we haven’t seen for awhile on there.

        • The usual mix of regular long-time commenters, coming along as they find the comic, the regular ‘sometimes’ commenter, and then the ‘waves’ of commenters, coming and going, and some returning.
Some retreat to the ‘shadows’ for a while, never leaving the comic just the commenting. These are often the returning ones here and there. I see this on all long going (2+ years) comics I follow that is being steadily commented on.

On some comics I AM a ‘sometimes’ commenter or mostly shadow reading, rarely commenting, and on some I almost never/can’t comment on.

          • *giggles* Avialae has quite the stuff to comment on lately. ^_^

          • Yes. I read/comment on her Tumblr mirror-page on that, as it has Disqus. Know most read/comment on the SmackJeeves or the Tapas mirror links, so there’s many comments I never see on there.

(and going by Lucid’s Twitter posts, it very much looks like a good thing. I found the right place to read it while avoiding the ‘weird’, juvenile and/or troubling posts)

          • She has Gannet completely wrecked and it is gorgeous!

          • How are you feeling?

          • Whiny xD

Got a case of double carpal tunnel syndrome (along with tendovagnitis in left wrist), I’m on the midfle/end of a cold, got my period (headache all around), got a sore bump on my forehead after a little too close metting with a door handle thursday, and as of yesterday (friday morning) I got a blue nail on a sore finger after door closed on tip of it. Apparently doors hate me this week >,>

          • davefragments

            oh bummer

          • awwwww! Well, at least your cold is clearing up?

          • Yes. Happy for that.

    • Lol. I never got close to getting a V….
Never really crossed my mind to be the first commenter. I would load up the page and then read the page and then scroll up and read again and look for details.
And then I’d scroll down and make a comment and by then there are already like 17 comments. 😛

But now that we’re keeping track I may try harder. Hehehe

      • NoiseShaper

Just be sure you actually have something to say – there’s nothing more embarrassing than just crowing “First!” without having anything to offer. Then it’s just a waste!

    • Songbird

Oh my goodness Doki. Not all heroes wear capes.

      • Pietro7

Though it’s possible our Doki has a cape in her closet. I’ve suspected her of heroism for quite some time now. 🙂 Thanks for ll this work, and for sharing it, Doki.

        • Well, no capes, but a cloak or two, do they count?

          • Pietro7

            Cloaks count. 🙂

          • Songbird

Dude do you have a local cloak outlet? There’s been a weird amount of cult activity, and it’s getting hard to find my business-casual dark lord ensemble

          • No, the first one I got was at … Con Nooga. It is a heavy (winter?) cloak. Very lovely. They other is a thin/cheap Jedi cloak/robe that my Ex let me have.

    • Madock345

I thought I had a v once, turned out to be a disqus bug. -_-

I think Dave actually got it

    • So close to 100!

  • If anyone on the list wants to know what/which page/s I can do that, it is part of the chart and not a problem. ^_^

    • Having so many, I think I’m good with just the number.

  • Pietro7

Fighting off sleep, but it’s winning. Patron is still silent so I’m going to have to wait until morning to enjoy Legendary. G’night all, pleasant dreams.

  • LOL.. Patreons. Go look at the new NSFW guest art of Spooky and Laampros. It’s quite.. captivating 😉

    • davefragments

The word in my mind was ‘outstanding!”

    • Madock345

*looks at sad, flat wallet, wails and nashes teeth*

      • Aww, you will get there. Maybe next paycheck. Being a broke wolf, I’m happy it’s $5 a month which then allows access to all posts for the month (and prior ones except the few ‘expired’)

      • Wayne Lunkwitz

That seems common this time of the month (FWS) I won’t get “paid” such as it is until the day after my birfday…..Sept. 1st…Grrrr!

        • Madock345

Yeah, I should get “paid” Monday, but really it’s just a graduate stipend. Usually still have to borrow rent money from my parents by the end of the year.

  • Madock345

I’m so pumped for this! 😀

I missed the opening of the first YP arc since I didn’t realize Alex had started something new after Artifice and lost track of him for a few months. Really excited to be here for the start of this one.

    • Wayne Lunkwitz

I think everyone here is pumped up for this.

  • Adam Black

    even @chrisdangerfield:disqus is lurking!

  • The first page of the new arc should be up soon….. 🙂

    • Wayne Lunkwitz

Although the current page is my current fave (I have a “thing” for hot buns)…..I’m ready for the start of the arc.

    • William Clapie

New arc? OK. When do we get the whole Alex library? I hate this anticipation!

  • davefragments

    Patreon rumbles

    {…and I have no idea what the URL will be…}

    • davefragments

      you’re on your own…

  • OK. Still working out a couple bugs. But here is the new URL!

    http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/typ2/legendary-ch1-page-1/

    • davefragments

      YAY

      • I’ll come up with the “special URL” to take folks to the latest page in a bit. But for now — time for dinner! 🙂

        • davefragments

          thanks…

I was banging away on the last script like a scary stalker

        • Can’t you use the one you already have?

          • Is that working for you?

          • No, at least not yet, but was wondering if you couldn’t just shift that same one to Legendary instead?

          • It will need to be different code. And I just need to take the time to figure out what that is. Shouldn’t be difficult, but I’ll get to it this weekend. 🙂

    • Dang it. I almost had the correct URL. All but the /typ2/ change.

  • Coming up with that Most Current Page URL for “Legendary” was easier than I thought. Here it is:

    http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/?last_webcomic=webcomic3

If you use this URL, it will magically transform into the most current page of “Legendary.” But because of this magic, you can’t just enter it into your URL bar and go to the page and THEN bookmark it, because all you’ll do is bookmark whatever page it sent you to. (And thus your bookmark won’t actually be for this special URL.)

Here’s the secret: First you have to create a random bookmark in your browser (it can be for any page, or any site—it doesn’t matter, because you’re going to change it.) THEN you need to EDIT that bookmark and change its URL to that special URL above. From that moment forward, that bookmark should get you to the current page of “Legendary.”

For folks who already have the “Most Current Page” bookmark for “Engaging the Enemy”, it’s even easier. Just edit that bookmark and change the “webcomic2” to “webcomic3”. Easy peasy. 🙂

    • Heroguna

I just wanted to congratulate you on finishing this arc, Alex. I haven’t been around to post much in the comments, I’ve been really busy working towards starting my PhD next year. (Would you believe I’ll be doing it on LGBTIQA+ representation in pop culture, particularly games and comics? Your work may show up in mine!) But I’m still around reading the updates. I look forward to the next chapter and who knows, I may see you at a con in the future as part of my research treck to the US. 😉 Best to you and your team. xo <3

      • Thank you so much, Heroguna! (And good luck with your doctoral work!)

  • Congratulations! I enjoyed every bit of everything. Just wished the new character that totally looks like me stayed longer :p

    • Thank you, jhubeJELLO! (And, who knows? We might see our buddy Sameer again sometime. 🙂 )

  • a_ngua

    Congratulations! ^^
But funny you should mention Teahouse of them all; for me, they just stay as a reminder how one should wait for all chapters to be released to buy comic… 🙁

  • Klaus

Of course the new comic will be done in the best possible taste.

  • As always, your comments are a real delight for me to read, Chris. I’m very glad you enjoyed Kyle’s arc. Thank you so much for sharing what it (and this comic) meant to you so eloquently. It means a lot to me. 🙂

  • Shinashi

It’s so exciting to see artists moving to Patreon. I can’t afford it just yet (and you’re actually many among my lists), but I appreciate anything that is given for free, but would ultimately understand if everything becomes paid. This is a lot of thought and love to go into things for free.

Also. The sweetest end for the sweetest couple of guys! So cute~

  • timemonkey

I just realised, the next page will be a title page won’t it!?

  • davefragments

    {Because of some issues, the “NEXT PAGE IS UP” announcement is getting buried in comments.}

The first page of LEGENDARY (the new story) is:
    http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/typ2/legendary-ch1-page-1/

  • Livia

This is not the end right?! Tell me it’s not!!! My Kyle! I want more of Kyle!!!

  • Dinglehopper

I have been enjoying “Legendary” and plan to enjoy it as a Patron donor when I can. My question here is, will there be another arc of The Young Protectors after “Legendary” ends? *crosses fingers* I hope so!

    • davefragments

yes there will be another “Young Protectors” story after Interlude

      • Dinglehopper

        Hooray!

    • Yep. After Legendary completes, there will be a longer, more super-heroey arc. So stay tuned. 🙂

  • This is such a great comic, Alex! Awesome job!!!

    • Thank you, Clover! (It was fun to read your play-by-play.)
