Isn’t time for what, Kyle?

I’d like to wish a very Happy Birthday to long-time reader Saxon and awesome super-mod, Admiral Jane! I hope you both had great fun on your birthdays!

Over at the Patreon Page, I added a new Milestone Goal at $6600 for a special Silverjow pin-up of The Annihilator. I thought I’d share a little sneak preview of that here. 🙂

AMW_Comics_TYP-ETE-PATREON-Duncan_Silverjow_PinUp_400PX

Gosh, I wonder what he’s thinking about… 😉

The full image shows him in all his sexy, beefy glory. If we hit that Milestone Goal, $5+ Patrons will be able to download the full wallpaper and $10+ Patrons will be send a high-res version with over double the resolution!

There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron (you can see them all here along with an explanation of what the heck Patreon is), and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron.

So! It looks like The Annihilator is having some second thoughts! Will Kyle be able to get through to him? Or is he just going to let those hostages die?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • No time for talk of regrets. Action! That is what’s needed.

  • Oh Duncan…

  • Thanks, Alex, for the birthday wishes. I stuffed my self silly with cake and chinese food! It was great. 😀

    • Jeldenil

      Congrats, Admiral!

    • bronakopdin

      Happy belated birthday 😀

    • Yay! That sounds like an awesome way to spend your birthday. 🙂

  • You’re maybe willing to possibly believe that Herself may have misled you? -_-

    • syllibub

*shakes Magic 8 Ball* All signs point to DUUUUUHHHH.

      • Ha! *shakes Magic 8 Ball again* I already said DUUUUUHHH.

  • davefragments

Duncan thinks he knows of a switch that will stop everything. I’ll bet Sircea has double-crossed him.
And worse, much worse, Duncan has the hots and the regrets and the guilts over his treatment of Kyle.

    • Brian Hopkins

Such an intricate face in panel 4, reflecting on all the conflicted emotions you mention.

    • Maus Merryjest

Alas too little, too late for Duncan, I think.

      • davefragments

I’m of another mind on that. I think Kyle gets to confront his father over Duncan’s life.

  • Brian Hopkins

Kyle, gently blocking Duncan’s reaching hand: Shh, not now, we’re not alone, remember?

  • Okay people, we really need to get to that next Patreon Goal!! I mean with how hot the Tsunami one was, I really really want to see the Duncan one.

  • Kyle sure ain’t got time for any talks, neither the timing or with an audience. Pushing Duncan’s hand away says it all. Pretty understandible reaction given that less than a day ago, Duncan abused that right he had to touch him then.

Duncan may regret it all, but Kyle got no time to even come around to any feelings Duncan has now. Too soon in some ways, and not time enough in other.

    • Saxon_Brenton

Using what we-the-readers have speculated about Red Hot’s personality over the years, I think he’s in full professional superhero mode. Rescue the hostages, save the world.
So, yeah, Red Hot doesn’t have any time for any of Annihilator’s attempts at personal melodrama. With that said, the final line, “Duncan, there isn’t time for-” suggests that that moment of pity Red experienced when he realised that the Priestess was manipulating Annihilator is helping keep him from being vengefully mad. Otherwise I expect he might brush aside Annihilator’s hand with a comment like “Don’t touch me! You haven’t the right!” or somesuch.

  • Sapfo

Look! Tsunami and Spooky are dancing ^^
And Duncan is trying to get into Kyle tight little spandex again? o.O

  • camelotcrusade

Kyle: There’s no time to explain!
(Gets on the Annihilator and rides off)

  • Saxon_Brenton

Okay, so show of hands… Did you think Annihilator is making apologies right now because he’s punch drunk and doesn’t realise that now isn’t the proper time and that Red Hot (and the rest of the YP) have different priorities? Or do you think Annihilator knows *exactly* what’s going on and fully expects to be demon prince chow any minute now, and is saying his apologies and goodbyes because he doesn’t expect to get another chance?

    Patented Woolfson ambiguity.

    • I was thinking of the lines that he may be more feeling extra guilt because he really is weakened right now and has absolutely no true shield left.
Which basically kinda amounts to the same thing that you were saying. lol

    • syllibub

Yeah, I think he’s in full “deathbed atonement” mode. It would be interesting if he lost Laampros’ mark along with his powers, but I guess from a narrative standpoint that would be too easy?

    • syllibub

      (Oh, and Happy Birthday!)

      • Saxon_Brenton

        Thank you.

    • timemonkey

Even if he survives the whole demon ordeal somehow he’s powerless, old and just tried to destroy the world. No matter how good he thought his intentions he’s crossed too many lines. No matter what his life is over, either through death of lifetime imprisonment.

    • bronakopdin

Happy belated birthday to you, too 😀

  • Mary Klemzak

I’m reeeally hoping Duncan is regretting his actions. And not playing. I was expecting something like this for awhile. I knew Kyle was going to come through, in a big way. Maybe this is it? Almost the end? Will there be more chapters, or different comics? I hope so. They’re so amazing.

I feel a teensy bit bad for him. Being used by an older-than-dirt evil witch lady, does seem like a bummer.

  • syllibub

This guy sure likes the tender face-touch maneuver — I’d say he likes it as much as he hates admitting that he’s wrong.

And…look, I get that Sircea manipulated Duncan into helping her carry out this batshit crazy plot, and it’s impressive (to me) that she’s savvy enough to have done it in a way that made Duncan believe he was basically forming the plan himself. But the whole “I know you thought you were doing the right thing, but she was using you!” thing just makes me feel like it’s letting Duncan off too lightly, in a way? Because whatever he believed about saving the world, he was motivated in part by self-interest and he did do some properly shitty things in pursuit of this goal. How much of his cooperation was truly because Sircea is some kind of chessmaster of the mind and will, rather than Duncan, afraid of loss of power and relevancy, really wanting to believe there was a way to redeem himself and be young and powerful forever?

Mainly, the more I think about this, the harder I cross my fingers that we get some kind of backstory for Sircea and Duncan — I’m so curious about the dynamics of their partnership and how they formulated this plan together. (Please, Alex? Someday?)

    • timemonkey

Keep in mind Kyle’s trying to get information out of him right now. Now isn’t the time to make full condemnations.

  • DonnaC

No time for your monologue now Duncan. Get off your sorry (hopefully truthfully sorry) butt and help the YP team get those hostages free.

    • Mary Klemzak

Definitely! It’s the least he could do!

  • Concerto

    I think he really don’t know how to open that shitty glass box or he know that this isn’t possible. Oh fuck and he look like he’s gonna die ahw shit i liked him a looot ;-;

  • Kyle is all “NO TOUCHY!” in that last panel.

  • David Welbourn

So which of the team is a Disney fan? Like, we know Sircea loves Disney. Get someone to say ‘abracadabra’, ‘bippity-boppity-boo’, ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, etc., every cute cliche line they can think of that Sircea might’ve used as a keyword to lock and unlock the box. C’mon, it’s worth a try if nothing else is working.

    Other things to try
    * Can anyone stop time locally so the timer is frozen?
    * Can Tsunami manipulate liquids that are already in the box? Ask a few of the prisoners to empty their bladders, if necessary. Nasty, sure, but if it saves their lives, do it.
    * Could the Annihilator break the box if he had his powers back?
    * Can Fluke’s current ‘unluck’ charge be used to help out somehow?
    * Break the bone circle. It’s still standing, I see.
    * Have Mitch move the box somewhere else, away from Sircea’s chosen site, so at least if the deaths can’t be prevented, they won’t count as magically relevant to whatever purpose their deaths are supposed to serve.

    • David Welbourn

Considering that there’s a clock deadline and a *glass* box, I’d try to concentrate on significant words from Cinderella. But still, say “open sesame” or make a lot of smoke so “Monstro the whale” will sneeze.

    • bronakopdin

with less than 30 seconds I wonder how far Mitch could carry the box adding enough time to get away from it to not be affected by the destruction himself >_>’

    • D. G.

      Thx doki.

  • Cman65

Don’t trust Annie he is always planing something

    • bronakopdin

with the spelling AnniE I first thought about Pogo’s ferret from DOTU x’D
      “Why not trust Annie?!?!??!”
      x’DD

  • Jeldenil

Nope nope nope, don’t fall for it. Sneaky bastards don’t just become honest heroes.

  • jreed3842

No. There isn’t time for that.
    Really Duncan?
You wanna try to get all sappy now?
You betrayed him. Beat him up. Knocked him unconscious. And now you’re all “I certainly did everything wrong with you.”
Actions speak louder than words. If you wanna make amends with Kyle, then try to help him save those people.

I do fee like Kyle can bring himself to forgive Duncan, just because thats the kind of person he is. But I don’t think he’ll ever be able to trust him the way he did. I HOPE that Kyle wouldn’t consider a relationship with him any more… But I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.

  • Shadizar Silvermask

Considering the consequences for failing to meet his bargain (that was engraved in his skin by the demon) it likely IS the time for it because without a miracle in his favor he’s off to hell for eternal suffering quite soon.

    • Klaus

Without a miracle the victims will die, Laampros will gain access to the Earth, and Duncan will have delivered on his contract.

  • I’m on time. 🙂

I knew they …Well, I knew there was still a ‘they’, but the hostages… they could still die and add more tension to an already hard situation.

The fall out from this is going to be big and it’s not really over yet. I have not forgotten about that thing on this arm. The contract. That will not be good for Duncan’s heath.

Oh and “Happy Birthday Saxon!” 😀

    • Klaus

      They are not hostages.

  • bronakopdin

I like how Duncan is regretting it badly now!
1st he deserves it and I hope the regret is colossal
2nd I actually believe his regret. I’ve seen people continue to blame him in the comments.
Sure it isn’t done with one apology and a little regret but one should stop accusating a person who honestly apologized.
Ofc I’m also still angry at him but at the same time it’s neccessary to actually look at the person and accept the regret and honesty.
Obviously he is still reluctant with it all… saying “maybe” he was wrong.
But it’s the right direction and I think this must be valued for now!

  • TwilightDreamer

whooaaaa there Duncan! Cool your jets mister >:s I think it’s gonna take A LOT more than accepting you might’ve been wrong for Kyle to let you lay a hand on him again.

  • Wyrmidon

I’m naive and idealistic. I prefer to see the good in people, even in the bad ones… I believe Duncan is sincere here, perhaps for the first time ever. And yes, I still believe this… relationship has a chance. I will go down with this ship.

    • Cecilie Muldkjær Bredesen

I am completely with you on this. I will stay on this ship til the end

    • Concerto

      I just love him too much ;_;

  • Aitsuki

Oh Duncan… everybody already KNOWS you did a lot wrong by poor Kyle. You admitting it does nothing… Being last to the party doesn’t make you the DJ! You did more than just ruin your chances with a kid less than a third your age…. you ruined him for life. How could he ever let himself feel, knowing he could open a hell portal again!? So, Duncan, you don’t get wallow in self pity. Do something not selfish for once!

  • Rick T

Quick, what’s the Elvish word for friend?

    • David Welbourn

I used to know that and I’ve totally forgotten. I’m as likely to blurt out “strawberry waffles” at that darn door as anything… oh wait, it’s “mellon”, isn’t it? I never liked watermelon. Friends should give me other food instead of melons.

    • Klaus

      The Magic Word is “please”.

    • Klaus

      The Magic Word is “please”.

    • Nate

      “Mellon” 😀

  • Michael

Oh, so it’s “Duncan” now is it, Kyle?

My opinion is that he’s being too quick to forgive, and too soft. Especially when people’s lives are at risk.

    • It was always Duncan, right from the moment he learned his name. I think Kyle called him by his alias only once in comic

    • HermeticallySealed

I see it more as removing artifices. It’s easy to hide behind codenames, but invoking someone’s personal name often drives home a seriousness that you otherwise can’t. You see this a lot in stories where characters often call someone by their title or moniker (e.g. friends calling Picard “Jean Luc” rather than “Captain,” or Justice League members referring to Batman as “Bruce”). It’s less Kyle being forgiving, and more him trying to show how earnest he is.

  • karmakat

would it be THAT FOOLISH to try to all go out on it at full strength? try underground? lift the damn thing? drop something on it? i don’t know…not jsut talk while only 2 are trying no?

  • Foelhe

That face-touch thing Duncan’s doing is ticking me off. Yes, Duncan, you did do everything wrong with Kyle. So maybe keep your hands off him. I’m pretty sure he genuinely feels guilty about everything that happened, but geez, even when he’s apologizing the man is incredibly self-centered.

Nice to see Kyle shove his hand away, is what I’m saying.

  • Koe

To be fair, Kyle is grinding his super perky butt into Duncy’s lap. Taking it personally is an easy mistake to do. 😉

  • Concerto

I don’t hunderstand why Duncan is more hated than Sircea because in the story Duncan does that because he think he was doing the good thing and even with a little bit of egoism sircea, her, do it just for immortality she just don’t care about people. So why everybody love her and hate Duncan. Duncan have done and do bad things but Sircea is worse. ( I hope that’s hunderstandable don’t hesitate to correct my english !)

    • Sircea isn’t exactly loved either, and there’s many who hope Duncan is redeemed. I don’t think it’s one-sided hate.

      • Derkins

        It’s complicated with Duncan 🙂

    • KatKaleen

I like Duncan much more than Sircea. I think most of us readers do.

    • Duncan was the one that personally manipulated Kyle.

    • Adam Black

Cause she’s a beautiful , stylish misunderstood Villainess trying to get shit done to save the world.

and Duncan is a big Jerk-face*.

( *who pretended to like Kyle, sexually assaulted him and took him to literal hell and back )

      • Concerto

Oh don’t take me wrong I think Duncan have done shitty things but I mean Sircea look to be a despotic godess. And she don’t want at all to save the world she juste want her immortality and she is the one who make the plan and like said in the story if Kyle was heterosexual she would have been the one to take Kyle to hell. But we can’t all love the same character and it’s cool because that make diversity ! 😀

        • Adam Black

But she will be a stylish overlord.

    • Adam Black

Duncan didnt think setting a fire to get a date was a good thing

    • Derkins

It’s definitely because of our love for sweet Kyle, and what Anni did to him. It’s true though that if he had been straight PP would’ve done it in a heartbeat, with less gain, and surely far less sympathy for her actions.

I actually like Duncan way more than Sircea, to be honest, and some people even still ship him and Kyle. I want to l like PP, cause she is a badass, and she’s got that sweet pagan head dress … but the silver fox just doesn’t have that straight up evil vibe like she does. Cockiness always turns me off, and she’s thinks she’s the best thing since beer was invented. Kinda makes me happy to think about how bitter she should be right now in the alternate location, after losing the day due to the teens.

      • Concerto

I think I understand your point ( understand without h this time I always do that fault ! ) I personally like both because I often like the bad guys haha and I know why people like her and thank you for explaining me your point of view I always like to share different opinion ! c: ( Well english is hard but actually the grammar is simpler than my language hehe)

        • Derkins

Any new language is going to be a huge challenge and take lots of discipline! But it’s a worthy endeavor. So cool to be able to communicate with people from other cultures, and see how their culture is reflected in that language. You also gain access to so much new literature. I know I have a new appreciation for Pablo Neruda, for example, after actually learning some Spanish. The translations are a poor substitute!

  • D. G.

I’m concerned. Not much time left at all. Come on miracle!

    • KatKaleen

I know a cat called Miracle. That would be hilarious, a cat coming in and saving the day now. XD

      • D. G.

        That would b pretty funny.

  • D. G.

I want kyle and anni to work this out somehow. I still ship them.

  • Minyassa

Wait, they’re going to be electrocuted? For some reason I thought they were just going to get blowed up to squish inside that box. If electricity is involved why can’t they just find the cable that’s going to feed it in, and destroy that?

    • Concerto

Haha ! That could be so simple but I think this is magic electricity

  • D. G.

Its pretty bad luck for the glass box to be magically protected. Maybe flukes good luck will cause the typ to figure it out in time.

    • KatKaleen

But isn’t Fluke all out of luck right now? He drained his powers earlier.

      • D. G.

I don’t think we can really know for sure.

        • He’s pretty pumped up on bad luck right now. Question is what occurrence it takes to re-load to good luck.

          • Klaus

The earth being overrun with demons should do it.

          • Derkins

Honestly if that happened Fluke might be able to take back the earth all by himself. I’d almost like to see what that butt-kicking run would look like. o-o

  • Dennis Grace

Jesus, Duncan, this is no time to want to cuddle.

  • AeryonSun

I haven’t commented in a while but this page made me mad. Seriously Duncan!? I love ya, don’t get me wrong, and I know you are feeling vulnerable since you lost your powers and Kyle, but now is not the time for apologies or self reflection! There are people about to die because of your actions, apologize later and tell Kyle how to open that thing up!

    • Derkins

The more he acts like himself the more Kyle is like, “seriously?” :p

  • Kensworth Ebbinghause

I don’t really enjoy how Duncan, a smart and knowledgeable man could fall so easily to Platinum priestess ‘ s con. Also since convincing him other wise only took a 2 min conversation with his boy-toy. Those two have been working for at least a year on this plan to “save the world” and Duncan didnt think about or doubt it? But boy wonder comes in, insults him a bit and poof! He becomes self-aware?

On another note… am I the only one waiting for Lady Luck to royally screw over fluke? The boys been on a hot streak, and I’ve seen enough gambling to know what happens on that last bet.

    • Klaus

Did he fall easily? She may have worked on him for years. And she is very experienced.

      • Kensworth Ebbinghause

I still have to say yes. Even if PP is a master conwoman, or she spent years conning him, it took flame boy 2 mins to debunk his entire belief in their plan. Something I would think a smart man would have brood ed over before selling his soul….life…whatever thing.

        • timemonkey

Duncan has a need to feel important and is feeling insecure about his age and weakening powers. Sircea provides a masterful manipulation and he falls for it because he wants to. He wants it to be true because it gets him everything he wants and he gets to play hero and have the entire Earth in his debt. Add in that the only other magic user available to provide a counter viewpoint is a teenager and on the other side fo the hero/villain dynamic and it makes sense he’d fall for it.

        • Klaus

He admits that he could have been wrong. He does not say that he is convinced that he was wrong. I am not at all certain that he was wrong. We know that the problem is real. The walls actually are weakening. Demons were already seeping into the Earth six years ago. PP claims that she can fix this. She can see only one way, and that requires that a great many demons come to Earth while the walls still stand. While we have no reason to trust her, we have no compelling reason to think she is lying either.

    • Adam Black

How much of it is a con?
We had independent confirmation the walls were collapsing.

      • Kensworth Ebbinghause

True, but regardless of the wall falling. Duncan is left with the short end of the stick if the demonic pact goes wrong. When the person who made the plan gets away Scott free it smacks of a con.

      • Derkins

The best lies after all, hold quite a bit of truth in them. Ultimately PP knew that vanity and pride were Duncan’s weaknesses, and she played off them masterfully. Brains or no, everyone has their blind spots.

  • Pikinanou

    It’s all about timing… literally.

  • Steel_Man

Who didn’t see this coming? What a waste of a good villain.

  • Toli Bera

is he gonna die mid-monologue? we bustin out that ol chestnut?

  • Dekira

Now is Definitely NOT the time. Specially with those three pair of eyes looking…. I wonder if they’ll have that talk later though…. Not sure everyone would agree, but i would still like to see them talk it out…

  • Jason Moon

    “Kyle… (kack) Kyle… for… give… (KACK) Forgive… meeee…” Anni begins hacking up blood.

    “Dun… DUNCAN! NOOOOOOOOOO!” http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BigNo

  • JozefAL

    “Duncan, there isn’t time for . . . .”

“You shoulda thought about that, pup, before you straddled me like that. I may not have my powers right now, but I’m still a man.”

    • I just realized the very… shall I say ‘close’… posture they have in the last panel. I was too involved in the words to notice it.
Your comment just makes me grin like an idiot. Thanks!

      • Librarican

Ok, I can’t unsee that now. Especially the second to last panel. That line from the tip of his flame goes all the way down to Duncan’s nose. And also how Kyle’s hand is positioned. I know there is more space between two areas of their body, but the reader’s viewpoint is VERY questionable from this angle….

  • Kate G

This is not the time for sentimentality, regrets OR monologues, Duncan. I want the answer and I want the answer now.

I love how in panel four the smoke behind Kyle frames him up nicely, giving him that pissed off, “I’m not in the mood for your shit” look. Kyle knows Duncan way too well and he is not in the mood to deal with his crap. He has people to save, friends to look after and injuries to nurse.

    • Derkins

“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice … Can’t fool me again.”
      – Michael Scott

  • Wait…does he *actually* believe he’s wrong? Or does he believe it like a super villain would? (as in, backstabby way)

  • tor

Please tell me you didn’t kill the annihilator.

    • D. G.

I think he is just injured. I don’t think Alex would kill him off just yet.

  • tor

he just dropped in the last panel and the way Kyle drifts off… i’m not the most optimistic that Duncan going to come out of this A) alive and B) if he does live, then he is not getting his powers back…. maybe

  • Shiny Gwilly

well, it probably took a lot for Anni to start admitting that he was wrong, “getting all kinds of beat up, blasted by a machine and now being an old man with maybe a broken nose, yeah, somewhere along the way i thought ‘maybe this wasn’t the best plan after all'”
but yeah, we don’t have much time now for a monologue, help get that box open if you want to try to START making it up to Kyle

  • ChibE

I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Duncan doesn’t have his invulnerability and there’s a very sparky death box nearby…

  • Sanbai

XD Why do I feel like Duncan is going to headlock Kyle and use him as leverage in the next page?

    • timemonkey

Considering he’s lacking his powers grabbing the guy who can set himself on fire would be a hugely bad idea.

      • Sanbai

Ehhh, not entirely sold that he’s telling the truth, but I could be wrong…

        • Klaus

The black eye and bloody nose are rather convincing.

  • Duncan, there isn’t time for everyone to listen to this vulnerable conversation, oh god.
I have a nasty feeling that Duncan is saying this Now because he thinks he won’t get a chance later. Even if I’m still mad at him, I want this couple to work out eventually, you know what I mean?

    • He’s still self-centred – he values his monologuing (controlling the image Kyle has of him) over the lives of others, wasting precious seconds.

      • Klaus

He is convinced that there is no way to stop the sacrifice.

        • He’s been “convinced” of a lot of things without actually bothering to question them until too late.

          • Klaus

But could he help if he wanted to? He is powerless and hurt, and we have no reason to think that he knows of a way to stop it.

          • Then he should say that instead of wasting their time.

    • elisuccia

I want it too 🙁 I believe that Duncan really has feelings for him..

  • Rick T

“I, me, I, I, I. So glad you keep finding ways to make all this about you, Duncan.”

  • davefragments

I’m early tonight and watching the Parade of Nations.

    • davefragments

Nearly all the athletes have cellphones and they all are taking pictures. The internet is going to get tons of selfies and videos.

      • davefragments

Estonia has three young ladies who are identical triplets competing in the Marathon (I think) …

  • I love Kyle’s expression in panel 5. The perfect WTF fuck.

    • davefragments

Kyle certainly doesn’t want to have an in-depth, heart-to-heart talk with Duncan right now.

      • Uh no, no he does not. And he can’t even fathom how Duncan could think he does.

        • davefragments

If Duncan had a ring, he would be yelling “marry me” … knee part optional

          • Ha! He just might. Foolish idiot man. I bet that would just make Kyle feel all cozy and warm and romantic -_-

Rule #216 of The Evil Overlord List:
“If I ever MUST put a digital timer on my doomsday device, I will buy one free from quantum mechanical anomalies. So many brands on the market keep perfectly good time while you’re looking at them, but whenever you turn away for a couple minutes then turn back, you find that the countdown has progressed by only a few seconds.”
