Ka-SPLASH!

So! It looks like the team has The Platinum Priestess on the ropes! Is that it for our benevolent shiny goddess (and prospective overlord)? Has the team finally won?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • syllibub

    Aw, babe… 🙁

    • Chris Dangerfield

Don’t be sad! You don’t get to be 6,000 years old and look like that by letting a bunch of kids set you back. 😀

  • Dog pile!

  • Well, the water helps the burns be less ouch. Except, maybe not in that amount and fist force.

    • Michael

      Maybe it’s salt water?

      • The river could be salt. That will burn more initially, and then help clean the wounds.

  • davefragments

First rocks falling from the sky, then fire, and now water…
That’s going to muss her hairdo

    • Stephen Hutchison

Yeah, now all we need is wind because Commander is using Heart already.

      • davefragments

Commander’s power is telepathy. She’s blocking the Platinum Princess’ thoughts and making it harder to fight our gang of heroes.

        • Stephen Hutchison

Yes. Heart. Exactly. You thought it WASN’T telepathy?

          • davefragments

            Sorry, I misunderstood your comment.

          • Stephen Hutchison

No, that’s what I meant. We now need a windy person. Does Flyboy count?

          • davefragments

Drop her in the river? That’s an interesting possibility.

          • Klaus

Always dunk burns in water as soon as possible.

          • Samurai Jack

Yes. By their powers combined they’ll be able to prevent the summoning of Captain Laampros.

I’ve always wondered why Asia got two representatives and Australia got shortchanged. I guess they’re not of this planet after all.

          • Stephen Hutchison

            Mati was South American native.

          • Samurai Jack

Yes. But Linka was from the Soviet Union and Gi was from Asia.

          • Stephen Hutchison

Oh right. I always think of Russia as being Europe, and she was cliche Russian. Still, good point.

      • Klaus

Where does heart as an element come from?

        • Stephen Hutchison

          Captain Planet and the Planeteers!

  • syllibub

Man, Tsunami has power. For some reason it’s easy to forget that, in terms of sheer force, he packs the biggest punch out of anyone on the team.

    • In each their way, Tsu and Mitch are the punch force.

    • timemonkey

It helps when you throw matter instead of energy.

  • I don’t think Herself is happy that Duncan is taking such a long nap. 😛

  • Eris, elder daughter of Nyx

Eep, those burns look nasty . . . starting to feel kind of bad for PP here . . . did not see that coming, after all she’s done . . . O_O

    • davefragments

At the risk of being too silly — “that’s one fine rump roast, Madam”

    • Klaus

      Water is good for burns.

  • Now will be the time for us to see what happaned to Anni and Fluke, and to see the timer in the glass cage, before making any assumptions >.>

    • syllibub

Yeah, whenever Alex’s note has something like, “Is this it?? Are they victorious???” that’s our cue to think, “…Apparently not.”

      • Exactly! It’s not over before all villains are lying on the ground knocked out. Then we can start talking about the possibility.

        • Vaira

Not if they’re alive. Our team has also been knocked down and see them now.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Long time reader alert! 🙂

    • camelotcrusade

Basically all the prisoners are doodling on their iPhones so if the camera pans over too fast we’ll catch them doing it and ruin the mood. Trust me it’s better this way.

  • Klaus

Ding dong the witch is wet.

    • Brian Hopkins

And lost her grip on that staff?

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Okay that was…… 🙂

        • Klaus

          When correctly viewed …

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Ohhhhhhhhhh… sexual… but NOT! Nice.

  • Whatever super-villains put in their hair, I want it. It’s a miracle product. Doesn’t even scorch the hair when fire os around. My hair look like a haystack with just a little wind or after being wet. I need their villain secret 😉

    • davefragments

      Dippity Doo

      extra strength.

      • LOL.. I thought it was just something you said, as a happy thing. Just looked it up to find it’s an actual American hair product.

        • davefragments

yes, it’s amazing what is sold in the name of vanity

          • P.T. Wyant

I still remember the smell of that stuff.

          • davefragments

It was yesteryear’s “Wall of Axe” …

      • Chris Dangerfield

I love a person who remember Dippity Doo!

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Sircea? What about Kyle…. DAMN!

  • timemonkey

Well, now she’s hot and wet.

  • TwilightDreamer

….does anyone else get the sinking feeling something is about to turn the tides again?

    • Alex’s comment = we might be doomed xD

      • Klaus

The end of a TV movie I saw many years ago: “Is this the end? Will Holmes and Watson really die? Will Moriarty rule the world? YES!”

        • Chris Dangerfield

Other than the names that sounds like the end to every Batman and Robin episode… “Is this the end? ……”

          • Klaus

Episode one of every story, that is. I think you could base a role playing combat system on the Adam West TV series. It is so very simple: in episode one, the bad guys win, in episode two, the good guys win.

      • Chris Dangerfield

You know him so well….. 😀

      • TwilightDreamer

        Ooooh, the foreshadowing…
        XP

    • timemonkey

I’d say Tsunami is turning the tides here. XD

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Nice.

      • TwilightDreamer

        HAHA! XD

    • Nate

There’s definitely a sense of the other shoe dropping. Fluke’s luck has to run out sometime….

      • Chris Dangerfield

I thought it had already done enough, even if it did. They were all immobilized when his luck (with Amanda’s prompting) kicked in. So even if it goes wonky… well?

        • TwilightDreamer

I feel like it’s going to be something we don’t expect at all….
          …..like the lazer bear XP

          • Chris Dangerfield

I’ll put money on you being right!!!! 😀

          • TwilightDreamer

            haha! 😀

      • TwilightDreamer

        hopefully not just yet.

  • LauraMoyer

Looking at this, I just giggle at the thought of the Commander… she is literally running after PP, THINKING at her!!! XD

    • Chris Dangerfield

      thinking………. “BITCH”

  • Shiny Gwilly

that middle panel is the best, just putting that out there
PP certainly tiring down and getting hit nonstop…..hope it’ll be just enough to put her down (at least long enough to stop the bomb)
keep on her guys, you’re doing great!

  • Jeldenil

Well, she needs to cool that burn eith cold water for at least ten minutes. Tsu is so thoughtful with his first aid.

  • charlieeton

just a question, so did the annihilator lied about the dampener being able to explode in a huge vicinity? or that has not happened yet in this current page?

Cause I was kind of hoping that he didn’t lie and Fluke caused the team to lose or at least both be injured.

    • Samurai Jack

The dampener did explode. It’s just Fluke’s luck, though, that caused the blast to be focused on Duncan.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fluke were looking closely at the cage even now.

  • Michael

That ought to out a damper on her plans! Go home, Sircea, you’re all washed up!

(screen freezes, as 80s sitcom-style credits roll)

BUT where is Dunc? I have a feeling we’ll be seeing him soon, and then the tables will turn yet again.

  • Columbine

Unfortunately none of this has rescued the hostages and PP said it didn’t matter if the ring was standing. I suspect this might turn around with the armies of hell landing if someone doesn’t PLEASE THINK OF THE HOSTAGES!!!!

    • means are the ends

I’ve been wondering if the Annihilator might be helping with that in the background, since we haven’t seen him in a few panels. I really, really want him to be redeemed, and that would be a great way to salvage his soul and show that his heart has changed.

And yeah, I think that tactically if the hostages are rescued, nothing else goes forward. Plus, rescue them already!

    • Chris Dangerfield

Some of whom are children… “Won’t someone think of the children!”

What? It’s a classic remark when denigrating gay people. I felt it needed to be brought out of mothballs.

      • Columbine

I actually find that super-funny because after much reading about historical West-African culture that is actually my main argument *for* LGBTA+ rights in the context of persuading homophobes in modern Nigeria and Ghana.

        • Midori Ren

It’s also an argument in certain historical European cultures, because of orphans. And some modern ones, same reason.

          • Columbine

Heh, I was thinking more about suicide rates among LGBT+ youth and how they drop with increasing protection by law and societal acceptance. But orphans etc works too, thank you for pointing that out. 🙂

        • Chris Dangerfield

I agree. It’s like that classic American remark about God should stay out of everything……… unless it’s a woman’s sexual rights and anything regarding LGBTQ. Gahhhhhhh!

          • Columbine

Are there any cultures out there that don’t get a little weird around ideas about family/reproduction? Do we just all have strange taboos there that we argue over? Humans = weird.

  • Klaus

The dramatically propper thing to happen now is that the timer runs down and Laampros steps through the gate. But that would mean that the sacrifices die, which goes against the rules of superhero comics. So far Alex has stuck to those rules. Nobody actually died yet.

  • Steel_Man

Please just end the world already! (Yep, I want the baddies to win!)

    • Klaus

Not going to happen. Way back, Alex said that after this tory ends, there will be a world left to write further in.

      • timemonkey

And he promised Kyle gets a happy ending so unless he switches sides for no reason…

        • Chris Dangerfield

          oooooooh spoiler alert!

      • Steel_Man

        Can’t help wanting what I want. 🙂

  • PP should be honored. I doubt a lot of people can say they’ve been water-fist punched. It’s a rare thing.

That fist is still so cool. As if Tsu in himself wasn’t someone you didn’t want to hit you.

    • endymion

      *to hit ON you.

  • bronakopdin

I only knew Fire Fist Ace (now Sabo) yet… water Fist Tsunami pairs up so well 😀

PP looks really exhausted… I wonder if it’s true or whether she’s still got sth up her sleeves and it’s just a show to make our heroes think they’re safe?

But looking at how it went with Fluffy and all, I really hope it’s the first option x’D

    • Saxon_Brenton

The scripts released as Patreon rewards have been mentioning that the Priestess has been growing tired for the past few pages. Notwithstanding that she may be able to somehow pull a proverbial hat out of a rabbit, she’s not faking being exhausted.

      • Klaus

Scripts written for the artistic teams. Alex wants her drawn as if she was exhausted. She may still be faking. Also, remember that Alex has promised to edit the scripts for spoilers.

        • Saxon_Brenton

          Those are both salient points.

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Tricksy!

      • Chris Dangerfield

Chris make sillibub an extra cold vodka martini (shaken not stirred) and pats her on the back, affirming that he doesn’t think her wife is out of this in the slightest… (damn meddling kids).

      • bronakopdin

yeah but I actually don’t think sth that spoilery would be in there somehow as the possibility of her still acting is not totally unrealistic

edit: just saw @Klaus:disqus said the same 😀

  • Toli Bera

Uh, guys I’m pretty sure assault of a senior citizen is frowned upon, legally.

    • Klaus

But is she a citizen? If so, of what?

      • Toli Bera

        …earth?

        • Chris Dangerfield

… and when do supposed “immortals” become “senior?”

          • Klaus

You become a senior immortal once you’ve lived forever.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Ummmmmmmmmmm… okay I’ll take that one on faith, but only because you’re the Klaus! 🙂

          • Toli Bera

well based on my highly scientific research, (Denny’s Menu) it’s usually when you pass 65 years.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Horrifyingly, that made sense!

  • Klaus

Tune in next Wednesday, when you will hear Laampros say: “What a shower you have had. Glad I missed it.”

  • Cman65

Old PP is getting very near the hole she dropped Big Ted down he may still be waitting

    • Chris Dangerfield

I think Cuddles is just randomly lasering some small town in Mississippi.

  • camelotcrusade

Guys, don’t finish her off yet! We still need Spooky to burst onto the scene and start some sort of epic Dumbledore vs. Voldemort wizard duel. Plus everybody needs to participate or they won’t get enough XP to level up.

  • Jason Moon

The Commander reminded me of something from an old issue of a comic from a defunct publisher. “You wanna end this, or you wanna stay pretty?” That was asked by a guy named Samandahl Rey from the title Sigil(the character was changed into a high school girl when Marvel bought the rights to some of the CrossGen library) to another character named Sephie in the title Meridian(it was a crossover).

    Some details:

CrossGen published a series of titles over a decade ago before becoming part yet another comics industry implosion. One of their titles(and one that Disney was considering buying the rights to before CG filed chapter 11) was called Meridian. It was one of the few fantasy titles that I actually liked because it wasn’t just another D&D rip-off. It had believable characters it actually showed the inner workings of the politics and the economy of the world. It showed actual INFRASTRUCTURE and wasn’t just another collection of Weird Places with Capital Letters In Their Names To Make Them Sound Cool(The Swamp of Eternal Lameness, etc.). There was a compelling plot of Ecology vs. Industry and some solutions to the problems weren’t as simple as they would seem at first glance(how you gonna protest the wrongness of the poor city’s decision to enslave lost children WHEN THEY HAVE NO OTHER OBVIOUS SOLUTION?). Then the main villain, Ilahn, was probably one the most scary guys BECAUSE HE WAS A CHESSMASTER. He was a THINKER. He had such extreme self-control that he turned the tables on The First(CG’s version of demigods) and attacked them in their home by draining them of some of their life energy WHILE HE PULLED A SPEAR OUT OF HIS OWN CHEST. He PLAYED THE MOST POWERFUL BEINGS IN THIS FICTIONAL UNIVERSE LIKE A BOSS. He made a pantheon his BITCH. And he was from a world that hadn’t even discovered gunpowder.

Seriously, if you track these down on eBay, you should. Barbara Kesel was at her finest.

  • xLizardx

I am now tempted to change my screen name to “insolent insignificant insect”.

Such stunning alliteration deserves appreciation. 🙂

    • Klaus

But you are both significant and solent. Outsolent? Exsolent? Uninsolent? Noninsolent? Or something like that.

  • SchalaRenee

Oh, PP is so sexy when wet and bloody…er, by water and injury of course. And probably other ways as well.

    • Klaus

What is so unusual here is that the blood is her own.

      • SchalaRenee

        Still hot!

        • Klaus

          And bothered.

  • Justin White

I THINK THEY’RE BEATING HER! FINALLY KEEP GOING TEAM!!!

  • bandanajack

    where is duncan ???

    • That is the big question, along with how much time is left on the timer?

      • Chris Dangerfield

Probably however many AW needs? (page turning is tricky like that). 🙂

  • Midori Ren

Now would be a good time to sic another of Spooky’s pets on Anni or PP, if there are any left.

  • “it’s Bath Time, m;lady.”

  • Chris Dangerfield

Whenever we discuss the spatter glass box of sacrifces… I like to remember this panel….

    http://i.imgur.com/Iz4MIrA.png

  • Saxon_Brenton

I’ve been trying to think up some sort of interesting comment, and all I’ve got is: Tsunami sure does look like a Jack Kirby character in panel 1, with that angular pose and his tatts illuminated like that so that they look like armour.

  • Chris Dangerfield

See… this is the problem. Kyle heats things up and then Gordon cools things down. I think they need to coordinate (Unless it’s a gay thing and Gordon doesn’t want to coordinate with c**ksuckers…) I’m just saying it happens.

Honestly what man doesn’t appreciate a good c*cksucker. SERIOUSLY!

    You are welcome!

    • Gregory In Seattle

Fire + water = very hot steam. Fire will destroy nerves while steam won’t, which is why steam burns are often far more painful than other types of burns.

So don’t knock the Kyle/Gordon double whammy quite yet.

  • Osiyo, mein fiends!

I’d like to start by pointing out how well this page is rendered. Events flow naturally. Panel one shows the team literally coming together. Panel two shows them in their “ASSEMBLE!!!” pose. Panel three is the payoff.

Adam’s lines are exquisite. He has a knack for natural body poses as opposed to the hyper-extended figures of days past. Tsunami’s tattoos are distracting in a very good way–ahem. I like the fx used to indicate Commander’s telepathy. I can’t help but imagine the Klingon disruptor sound effect from Trek TOS when she zaps someone. The beauty shot for me is in that third panel water fist. Vero outdid herself with that coloring. It looks like pure, clear water. It’s both amorphous and very clearly a fist. The choice of colors pop the whole page and bring Alex’s genius to life. Nicely done to all of you on the production team. I have never missed a page of TYP and I don’t expect to in the future. Thank you again for bringing this story to us!

    • You’re very welcome, Donald! Thank you for the fun play-by-play reaction! 🙂

  • davefragments

    Juno is orbiting Jupiter!
    Yay!

    • I am sure some of the fireworks yesterday were for Juno. ^_^ I am actually kind of surprised that I haven’t heard any fireworks tonight….despite them going off every night since Friday. Not even rain stopped them for long.

      • Nevermind. We have fireworks tonight as well.

        • We’ve had fireworks like that too, since at least Friday. Big ones too, like m80’s. I’ll see if they light any tonight. grr.

          • i am just wondering how people have the money…fireworks are expensive as f*ck…

          • One of the places I lived fireworks were sold by charity/church/other such organizations as a way to raise money for their clubs. I don’t know how expensive they were, though they were not an expense that we could make. That place we lived was against a hill and so we weren’t allowed to light them. But with having animals, lighting fireworks can be dangerous.

          • When I went with my mother and grandmother a couple of weeks ago, there were at least 4 separate fireworks places within “spitting distance” of each other.

          • Yup. These stands were all in grocery store parking lots and all next to each other or across the street from each other.

          • davefragments

I had to pay a plumber to get the small bathroom’s tub working and the toilet fixed from dripping. It took two plumbers. That’s where my money went.
Then I lost a ball bearing and had to buy a chair. More money. So I’m poor for the summer. Nothing to do but relax in the sun, write short stories, and read books.

          • davefragments

The only year that I bought small fireworks was a year of drought and the lawn was so dry I was afraid to light them. So that was a waste of money.

BTW – after working with high pressure hydrogen and having a few “booms” I stay away from fireworks especially M-80’s (tiny bits of dynamite) and cherry bombs (truly the most asinine of firework in that it can explode and shatter a commode)

          • I don’t like the loud noises really. The older I get the less I like them. I don’t like being startled by the bang. They like to light them here for new years too. blarg.

          • davefragments

Well, In my Grandmother’s neighborhood it was said that years before that those bangs on New Years were mafia paybacks. I never believed that but it made an interesting story.

          • Fireworks that were not in charge of by professionals has always made me nervous.

          • That too! One year we watched 8 houses catch on fire from our little deck. Since we lived on a hill, we would watch the whole valley lighting off fire works. That was interesting.

          • davefragments

I was going to ask about your drought. That would be my reason for not buying fireworks right after “cheap”…

          • This was in the early 2000’s before we reached double digits. So not yet the full drought. I was fully expecting to hear fire trucks last night. I don’t think I heard any though.

          • davefragments

            I hope you don’t.

        • davefragments

          Great,
We have rain tonight. didn’t last night.

          • Over the weekend, I have been able to tell when it has rained at night. Boom boom boomboom *quiet* rain *quiet* boom boom boomboom

          • davefragments

I like this morning to tractors. The property two away from me must have sold and they were pouring stone to harden the dirt into a driveway. That was my 5th of July morning

      • davefragments

The firework technicians keep them undercover until the show.
Rain in the tubes will hinder the balls as they are blown out of the tubes. Heavy rain in the sky will prevent the charge from reaching the proper height.
It’s the big chrysanthemums that must get lots of lift.

  • Kate G

Hello everyone! I’ve been quiet lately because…I was too excited to go see the Lipizzan horse show! I’ve been waiting weeks and weeks for it and I finally saw it at Tempel Farms and I was like, “AHHHHHHHHH!!!!” It was SO COOL! Dancing horses!

And I got a super cool shirt that say, “May the horse be with you” because the pas de deux was to Star Wars. I got to pet the two horses that danced to that too (one was named Batman! BATMAN!)

And so, I’m now on a horse high. I only have horses on my brain.

    • davefragments

The Lipizzaner stallions are a gorgeous show. They are fine horses.

      • Kate G

It was a beautiful, awe-inspiring show. I’ve never seen horses do such complex, beautiful moves so easily. I would love to learn dressage but it’s a very, very difficult sport within equitation. I’m still getting basic English equitation down. Then, hopefully, JUMPING. *tries to contain squealing* I really want to learn to jump.

        • davefragments

My Brother and his wife saw the Lippizaners.

I just saw Alex’s email. Start looking for the new page

    • stickfigurefairytales

      That’s awesome!!

      • Kate G

It was! I want to see it again.

  • syllibub

Hhhh this page stresses me out whenever I come back to it. Also, I’m getting pretty concerned about Spooky — it’s not good to be knocked out this long.

  • davefragments
  • Personally, I’m glad to see the Platinum Priestess suffering a bit.
