What’s that supposed to mean?

Earlier, I shared that this month’s $5+ Patreon backers are getting a very special treat — one of my most favorite pin-up images we’ve ever created — a very special pairing of Spooky and Kyle!

AMW_Comics_TYP-ETE-V1-KS-KYLExSPOOKY_400px

But that’s not all the only sexy pairing with the Spookster that Patrons are getting this month. They’re also getting a very special pin-up with Spooky paired with Tsunami too!

AMW_Comics_TYP-ETE-V1-KS-SPOOKYxTSUNAMI-400px

Checkmate can be so satisfying…

$5+ Patrons for January will get to see the full (and fully nude) versions of both of these pin-ups once their pledges clear in the first week of February. $10+ Patrons will get sent a high-res version of the full pin-ups with over double the resolution!

There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron (you can see them all here along with an explanation of what the heck Patreon is), and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron.

So! The Platinum Priestess and The Annihilator seem to have finally established that Commander is a girl. But is that really true? Wouldn’t “young woman” be more appropriate? Also, what porpoises does The Annihilator find amusing? Does he know any by name? Does he need the boys alive so he can feed those porpoises? Do porpoises even eat meat? (And what about dolphins? Are they to go hungry in the brave, new, demon-haunted world?) And finally, has The Platinum Priestess won the argument here? Is Commander also going to become food for the fishes?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • davefragments

Or do you need to love her too?

    • You were fast! (And/or had a fast loading computer). By the time my comments loaded, your comment was already there 🙂

      • davefragments

Safari behaved tonight. It usually gets all goofy and idiotic.

      • No one was there for me, but yeah, it took several seconds for disqus to stop spinning for me.

  • Fudge damn

  • Oooh good question, Your Goddessness. How many people do you need to love you, Mr. Duncanator.

    • davefragments

The world has not enough enough love for Duncan. He wants them all to love him

      (wink, wink)

      • Why Dave, you devil! 😀

        • davefragments

This has been a very odd and strange day.

          • I will give you that.

          • davefragments

Speaking of writing (well, not really) There’s fanfic porn out there on AMAZON titled: Donald Trump, the Billionaire and the Bellboy.
Please never mention that again. I think it’s a disease in ebook form.
            The reviews are hysterical.

          • Hahahaha! Good grief, but well deserved, but I don’t want to know.

    • Dave Nguyen

I think the formula is {Patreon Donations}/1000 rounded up, or something to that.

  • Sapfo

I do not approve of this! There will be no killing/trying to kill Amanda!
    I will love her! O___O

    • You can save her with the power of the strawberry. I mean, you’re the Goddess of Strawberry surely you could take Sircea.

      • Sapfo

Take on Sircea in a fair fight? Can I just not sneak behind her back. I do feel that I am more of a trickster godess then a godess of power 😉

      • Dave Nguyen

Aha! So Sircea is allergic to Strawberries!! We found a weakness!!

    • Columbine

      Tangent but- Actual-Sappho-fan? Which poems/fragments?

      • Sapfo

        “What shall we do, Cytherea?
        Lovely Adonis is dying.
        Ah,but we mourn him!

Will he return when the atum
Purples the earth, and the sunlight
        sleeps in the vineyard?

Will he return when the Winter
        Huddles the sheep, and Orion
        Goes to his hunting?

        Ah, but thy beauty, Adonis
With the soft srping and the south wind,
        Love and disire!”

It was long ago I read her work.

        • Columbine

I loved the hymn to Aphrodite myself but apparently the translation I like most isn’t exactly the most accurate.

  • stickfigurefairytales

I definitely think that the threat Amanda poses has to be connected to her telepathy, but I wouldn’t rule out her tactical skills playing a role as well.

    • MoonByte

      Might be a combination.
Her telepathy alone is intriguing, her tactical skills alone are amazing. But with both combined, she is seriously dangerous (especially when combined with either a powerful fighter like Spooky or someone with overview like Flyboy).

  • syllibub

Yeah, judging by Duncan’s expression in the third panel, I really don’t think his mind was going that direction.

  • I don’t know if Sircea was ever really a girl.

    • syllibub

Or at least not “just a girl” in the sense that anyone should have ever underestimated her. The vibe I get is that Sircea thinks that line is dismissive — Duncan isn’t acknowledging the real threat Amanda poses, focusing on Amanda’s age relative to theirs rather than the abilities she’s already demonstrated. I think Sircea was in her early twenties too when she really came into her powers and was kicking demon ass all over Pangaea; it would have been a fatal mistake to consider her “just a girl” then, and same goes for Amanda now.

      • Very good point!!

      • Chris Dangerfield

Nicely put. Looking at that first panel, I think it’s the first time Duncan looks to me completely confusled… age, sex, killing in cold blood, surprised… I think he looks really confounded. I’m not at all surprised that his line and his face don’t seem united. He may not know what he thinks about this turn of events at all.

He certainly looks shocked. Rare for him.

    • 6000 years ago.. I think she has a grudge on the time she was ‘just a girl’. Guess she showed people otherwise.
She knows that Amanda should not be underestimated, though, I don’t know how much Duncan actually feels that girl-comment, or how much is attempt to group Amanda with ‘children who shouldn’t be harmed’.

How much of it is Duncan feeling confidence in their superiority, and how much is a way to hide his humanity, and that he care, by trying to ‘control’ Sircea’s bloodlust? A mix is my guess.

      • That’s a good point too! I would suspect more that Duncan is attempting to group her with the children. For whatever reason, maybe he doesn’t want to upset Kyle more?

  • Ouch.

  • Was that a stab on her knowing Duncan has feelings of sorts for Kyle, mixed with a weird way of saying that she herself could have/had feelings – that are/were being unrequited, because she know Duncan is gay?

Was that a final outing to the speculations of his sexual preferences?

    • davefragments

Sircea Wants Duncan, and wants him real bad.

    • syllibub

More ambiguity — who would have expected it from Alex? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

      Oh, everyone. Okay.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        HA!

  • Mitch R.

Yo, if no one here has seen the video for Miike Snow’s ‘Genghis Khan’, it’s in a similar vein to YP… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_SlAzsXa7E 10/10

    • davefragments

      That is so weird.

      • Mitch R.

        Weird how?

        • davefragments

The villain is dancing and almost en-point …

          • Mitch R.

Ah, fair enough. Great video, though

          • davefragments

            yeah, ok.

(ps, you’re talking to a symphony season ticket holder and an opera nerd)

          • Mitch R.

(Excellent! Gotta love a good orchestra.)

  • syllibub

My personal interpretation of Sircea’s last comment is that she’s jabbing again at Duncan’s need to believe that he’s doing the “right” thing — and more than that, his need to have that acknowledged. Whatever happened in his past, he caused great harm to his childhood bullies and was either ostracized for it or willingly separated himself from his family because he was ashamed of what he did. I think he’s held on to the idea of being a hero in the end all throughout his career as a villain, and is hoping that defeating Laampros and repairing the protective walls can be his big turnaround in the public eye.

His relationship with Kyle must have really complicated things for him — now he has to prove himself to a specific person he hurt, and not just people in general. Sircea’s got the better attitude for a grandiose, self-serving plot like this, even if there are eventual benefits for humanity: you shouldn’t hope people like you while you’re doing it, and you definitely shouldn’t care when they don’t.

    • I wonder if that whole bit Duncan told Kyle about protecting children was true. Maybe he doesn’t actually like hurting those he deems a child. And at 58 he thinks a lot of youngun’s are children.

      • syllibub

I think it’s based in truth. I’m not sure about his youth, but I get the sense that at this stage in the game he doesn’t like gratuitous violence, and hence isn’t exactly thrilled by the implication that he might like to keep the guys around as torture playthings or…whatever. (Keep it in the murder basement, Sircea.)

It could also be that, since he clearly has more than two brain cells to rub together, Duncan remembers that pissing Kyle off amplifies his powers and doesn’t want to risk setting him off by killing one of his friends. Especially a mentor figure like Amanda. If that’s the case, though, he should come out and say that — it would be a more respectable argument than “but think of the children!!!”

        • I don’t think Duncan is always extremely truthful with himself. I think he’s very good at lying to himself.

          • syllibub

Or at least good at justifying his actions to himself? I don’t think he’s lying about not wanting to hurt kids, although he was able to (mostly) talk himself into hurting Kyle because it was for a “good reason.”

          • Very true.

His feelings really must have thrown him for a loop. And it seems Sircea knows all.

        • Chris Dangerfield

“(Keep it in the murder basement, Sircea.)”

          OMG… ha!

      • I think Big D was as honest as he could be with Kyle during that dinner, even if the dinner was based on loads of deceit and lies. By that time he liked Kyle, much more than he wanted to.

    • syllibub

Actually he might not even care about redemption in the public eye so much — it may have started out as something he was proving to himself, but now that he involved Kyle and saw up close what hurting someone for a “greater good” really looks like, he needs to redeem himself in Kyle’s eyes as well.

Duncan seemed really moved by Kyle’s straightforward goodness. It’s as if he forgot what heroism could look like without all the gray morality.

  • Toli Bera

jeez, laying it on thick isn’t she? :/

  • Nodding off here. The page adrenalin rush didn’t last that long when going on around an hour and a half of sleep. Will be back in a few hours. Now, you behave everyone, and have a good night or day whereever you are 🙂

  • davefragments

BTW – I think in the third panel that Sircea is fondling Kyle… Or her hand is close enough to make Duncan and Kyle squirm.

    • syllibub

I think she’s just gesturing. If anything, she’s closer to grazing Amanda than Kyle, but I doubt it’s what she’s actually going for. It’s just the perspective of the panel.

      • davefragments

It is probably one of those thoughts that wandering through my mind. It’s also one of those things the Evil Overlord says don’t do — disrupt the magic, sciency, energy field thingie that is preventing the hero from killing you, the villain…

    • T Dibbler

Dammit, cannot unsee. I think (as syllibub said) it’s just the perspective in the panel, and she’s actually nowhere near either of them, but that’s what I’m seeing when I look at it now.

      • davefragments

In the cold light of morning, perhaps it was just the dim, midnight light reflecting in my eyes.

  • Chris Dangerfield

    Oh she is GOOD…

  • TwilightDreamer

Oh that last panel was way crossing a line there Sircea! I have to admit though, she’s beautifully drawn in that second panel.
Aaah! The wait between pages is torture right now! XD

    • Klaus

22 minutes can take many months.

      • TwilightDreamer

        lol indeed.

  • Gregory In Seattle

Wait, those sexy pairing… is this the art first depicted in Interlude 1?

    • The pairing pin-ups are new, original art. But could they have been created in-canon by TYP fans in their world? That’s how I like to think of them. 🙂

  • Jeldenil

Well, I know what Amanda’s theme song should be now.

    • TwilightDreamer

      Do tell?

      • Jeldenil

        It’s a Gwen Stefani song 😉

        • T Dibbler

Oh man, I haven’t heard that song in YEARS. I always loved those lyrics. 🙂

      • Jeldenil
        • TwilightDreamer

lol, yep, that would work 😛

  • Wildroses

Just a girl, huh? Well, I suppose in your fifties, early twenties and late teens are identical from your perspective, legal age of adulthood be damned.

Interesting first response from Duncan. It didn’t occur to me he would find killing people he considers children morally wrong. Yeah, I know he said back on the first date super villains are swiftly dealt with if they break don’t hurt children rule, but he turned out to be manipulating Kyle so I have been not taking anything he said to Kyle pre betrayal as positive truth. This scene is the first of what I consider reasonable evidence of Duncan believing you should not kill children.

    • Klaus

He has never killed anyone on purpose before. Though he is determined to kill the sacrifices.

      • T Dibbler

I can’t remember, has he never killed anyone, or just always tried to keep innocent bystander deaths to a minimum? I thought the latter, but I need to go re-read and check.

        • Klaus
          • T Dibbler

Thanks. 🙂 Although now I’m wondering if we can really trust Kyle’s information at that point, but maybe I’m being to cynical.

          • Klaus

That must be what Kyle’s research showed. But it is unlikely that all Duncan has done is known. And intent is difficult to judge anyway.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Really, wasn’t he a mob-enforcer in his young adulthood?

  • Saxon_Brenton

So let’s get to the obvious thing…
No. Not the fact that the Priestess thinks that Annihilator’s stated reason for not killing Red Hot because he’s Laampros’ son is false and she thinks he’s actually lusting after Red. The other obvious thing…
Like, that Red Hot and Commander are watching the two villains bicker, and are getting lots of psychological manipulation/blackmail/bribery material to use against them.

I’m waiting for Kyle to get their attention, so they allow him to talk (if he can’t already) and say that it was his fault, he called them all together and told them what was about to happen, so PP decides to take him out instead and Duncan tries to stop her.

    • Klaus

He might do just that if he thought that there was a chance it would save Amanda, but PP would not be moved.

  • T Dibbler

I love Sircea so much. Just so much. I’ve always loved a good villain, and she’s smart, and confident, and ‘sassy’ doesn’t seem the right word, and neither does ‘sarcastic’, but I can’t think of the right word to describe her attitude and all her smart little put-downs, and I love them so much. She’s so great.

She kind of falls in with Jane Austen’s Lady Susan as one of those intelligent, manipulative, confident, unstoppable, completely amoral, selfish characters whom I can’t help but admire, yet if I met them in person I would loathe with a passion because they’re despicable really, but they just do it so well.

    • Klaus

She is the best at what she does, and what she does is not nice at all.

      • T Dibbler

        Yes, that exactly. 🙂

  • Megan Staples

It looks like Duncan and Sircea will finally get into a real confrontation. Duncan doesn’t approve of harming young people, I can’t see him allowing Sircea to do it.

  • bronakopdin

I see what Duncan tries to point out but… to call Amanda “just a girl”… I can feel her telekinetic disapprovement *chillsrunningdownmyback*

Those glances Kyle and Amana exchange… oh how I wished that her powers still worked and that she’d debate with Kyle how to get outta there x’D

Sircea sure knows how to rile people up. I wonder how Duncan will respond to that! She’s obviously trying to annoy him and I wonder which reaction she expects of him. As he is not ateenager that would go with an “ok fine, have it your way” kinda like attitude.

Or well maybe she’s following another porpoise…. though where would it hide right now? Those puddles are too small I’d say…

    • Herr Hurbig

I wouldn’t be mad at Duncan if I were Amanda because he called her “just a girl”. After all he IS trying to save her life.

      • bronakopdin

I never said she would be “mad” it is just that Amanda is the very emancipated kind, a strong one, mentally and physically. So being called “just a girl” I think it will push some wrong buttons and she probably doesn’t like it. But also I think she’d never voice that (even if she could) in this situation and I do think that she would be grateful IF Duncan managed to save her. They still don’t know all the details here (well we don’t either) and for them Duncan is still “one of the bad guys that wanna make the Earth a second hell” so I wonder how “grateful” exactly she even can be right now ^^’

        • Columbine

‘Grateful’ is also bound to be weird in that sort of situation: ‘thank you for…….choosing not to kill me!’

          • bronakopdin

that is precisely why I wrote my sentence with “would” and “if” and using subjunctive because that is already suggesting it is just a possibility and also that at that point the situation is over already and some “clear up talk” happened…

but yeah that last part is what was in my head and I didn’t write it down ^^

        • Herr Hurbig

Well it’s just that the only thing that can keep her alive now is if somebody can convince Sincera (is that her name?) that Amanda is not a threat. Yeah, I guess she doesn’t like it and I guess she won’t forgive Duncan just because of that, but it would be stupid to say anything else right now.

          • bronakopdin

her name is Sircea, or well The Platinum Priestess (maybe this is easier to remember xD)
and yes, that is what I said when I wrote “she’d never voice that (even if she could)” ^^

          • Herr Hurbig

Okay ^^ (sorry I messed the names up, I feel like a bad person not)

          • bronakopdin

lol no need to apologize 🙂 when I was new to the comic in 2012 and read it in a bunch until what was up by then I also had troubles remembering all the names and hero/villain aliases at once xD

          • Herr Hurbig

I’m pretty new here, I started last week and now I have read it all through. I’m terrible with names, especially when it’s such a weird one.

          • bronakopdin

it will come over time! It also helps a lot to read other people’s comments as they mention the names combined with the actions on the page 😀 it’s like “repetition” then so you’ll learn them faster xD

          • Pietro7

Well, I hear that mispellers are treated the same as multiple-ax-murderers in the afterlife . . . 🙂

          • Herr Hurbig

Who says I’m not one of them 😉

  • Toli Bera

I gotta say, Sircea’s make up is on point. she just went through a battle with 4-6 heroes and still is serving head-shot glamour. Maybe she’s born with it…

    • bronakopdin

      or maybe it’s maybelline

      • Zeruk

I’m trying to give you a hundred upvotes but it’s not working!
        Do you take cash? 😉

        • bronakopdin

I appreciate the thought, thanks xD

  • Gaël Cassetari

All right. I see why Annihilator would want to keep Kyle alive both as a love interest and as the son of Laampros. Whether Laampros even likes his son is irrelevant. There’s other reasons than selflessness and love for wanting him alive and I can well imagine some that would be completely evil.

Sircea is only practical in wanting to remove potential threats. She’s most likely right that the kids are going to end up messing up her plans big time. It’s very odd a super-villain misses the obvious.

The other question though is why Amanda. Or why solely her. She’s the leader, but it’s not like the others are brainless lumps without her. Not completely. Chances are they might be ticked about her being murdered in cold blood too. Heroes seem to always find practical minds objectionable.

    • Columbine

Sircea hasn’t seen much of the Young Protectors at this point though. They’re not a combat team. What she’s seen is this recent battle, where the team were relying heavily on Amanda’s coordinating them and her tactics/plans. I think she’s got every reason to assume Amanda’s the only brains in the operation.

  • Columbine

It’s tempting to read Duncan’s ‘just a girl’ line as….well a sort of ‘but you can’t kill women and children!’ objection. However given he’s argued for the boys rather than just Kyle (and possibly Spooky since he’s apparently a rarity) I suspect it may be more a ‘they’re defeated prisoners, we shouldn’t just execute them.’

Sircea not getting that would make perfect sense given her age: that moral attitude to prisoners and the distinction between civilians and combatants is historically recent. Might not be what Alex was going for but I rather like seeing this a 1940s outlook vs a 500BC outlook.

    • Wildroses

I took Duncan insisting they shouldn’t kill Amanda because she was ‘just a girl’ not as ‘the weaker sex’ but ‘just a little kid’. Pure age, not gender. I don’t think he sees any difference between late teens and early twenties (unsurprisingly given his age).

I felt Sircea took it that way too because her first response was not “I’m a girl too you sexist idiot” but “Hey, I was that age once and look at how powerful and dangerous I am now.”

      • Columbine

I saw both as a mixture. That Duncan’s objection was based on both Amanda’s gender and youth (with the emphasis on youth) while Sircea’s counter was also based on both (with an emphasis on ‘don’t care for your petty morality’).

But I don’t see age or gender as the root of either response. I think that’s about how you treat prisoners. Duncan doesn’t seem to think of himself as ‘evil’ and he’s lived his whole life in a world where executing defeated, unarmed, defenseless *people* isn’t OK. The groups we tend to paint as most evil are the ones like the LRA, Boko Haram etc who slaughter people that have no chance of fighting back. I think that’s what Duncan’s seeing here and his gut reaction is ‘no way I’m not one of *those* bad guys!’.

Sircea in contrast is 6000 years old. She grew up in a world where there were no civilians vs combatants (by which I mean people didn’t seem to think in those terms) and when slaughtering your defenseless, defeated, unarmed foes was normal practice. It’s….so stuff like the Viking raids on monasteries through Europe- those weren’t shocking at the time because warriors were slaughtering unarmed, defenseless people. They were shocking because it was a powerful pagan force attacking Christian holy sites.

I think it makes sense, given the time periods Duncan and Sircea have lived through that Duncan would object to killing their prisoners (as opposed to the sacrifices whose deaths are ‘necessary’) while Sircea would see it as a normal thing to do (because it was for much of history). And I think her teasing Duncan about ‘keeping’ the boys supports that: for a long time in history prisoners only had value alive as…..bounty, as slaves. Sure she’s probably doing it to get under Duncan’s skin too, but I don’t think she’d necessarily see it as unusual if Duncan *did* want to turn the YP into his harem.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Somehow, this seemed appropriate. You can’t say the lady isn’t consistent.
      http://i.imgur.com/Iz4MIrA.png

      • Columbine

Yep she’s consistent alright! I think I like that about her. Makes her a good villain here.

  • sstogner1

    uh, oh…she’s on to him…

  • Spooky’s macking on everyone! Is he the team bicycle? LOL

    • Actually, he’s the fan bicycle. It was impossible to outvote him during Kickstarter – and still is in any voting of that type…

      • I felt it was more Duncan and Kyle that was impossible to outvote. After two or three pairing votes where it ended up Kyle/Duncan every time, Spooky finally got his moment when there was a pairing vote where Duncan couldn’t be picked (result Kyle and Spooky), and later there was the vote where it could be neither Kyle or Duncan which resulted in the Tsu/Spooky, I think.

        • I guess you always remember those votings when you weren’t too happy with the outcome. but you shouldn’t forget that the Kickstarter campain was back when Anni was all nice and cuddly and harmless…

I’m rather happy with tsunami getting one pairing – even if it has to be spooky. By the way: I think Tsu’s looking rather young in that chess picture

          • Klaus

Nice and cuddly yes, harmless no way.

    • Klaus

Those scenes are as canon as Kyle comitting a robery with Duncan.

  • Pikinanou

Anni wants all the lovin! 😛

  • Jason Wexler

I am still 100% with Sircea on this one, but my bet is Duncan’s argument will be something like “don’t poke the hornets nest, they may want to try and stop us regardless, but if we kill Amanda they may be all the more motivated.” If my prior suggestions about Duncan’s motives are right, he isn’t playing his cards very closely to his chest.

  • Galopa WXY

The platinium Priestess is such an awesome and classy supervillain.

  • Chris Dangerfield

    TRIGGER WARNING: Lots of words.

Okay I’m in love with this page for multiple reasons, but two main ones: the acting is amazing and the art and composition compliment and present it at its very best. Such congratulations.

Don’t get me wrong the acting has always been sharp and clear and very affecting, but pre the hell-date I felt more overtly stalwart and/or devilish looks from both our heroes and Team Silver. Hero / Villain. Great stuff, but I didn’t know them yet.

I could feel Team Silver’s shenanigans (we all could) leading up to the betrayal, but after the shock and the pain of the hell-date, when nothing was remotely what I was prepared for and even Laampros was scarily subtle and unpredictable… it just got subtle and unpredictable and, well, juicy.

When we got to the Warehouse and that down-shot of a naked Kyle all alone in despair. I was pretty overwhelmed at Kyle’s acting, indeed, all the boys. Each in their own way. Mitch’s youth and eager concern. Paul’s unsubtle 17 yo balls-to-the-wall, go get ’em nature — just the way he is. Discovering Spooky was so much more than I had a clue about. Watching his very deft sharp handling of a very damaged Kyle. Lot’s of evolution going on with everyone and all of it very additive page to page.

Then the jet ride. Each character had a very unique and specific issue they were working that related to who they WERE. For example, now we know much more about why flying that jet was tough for Mitch during THAT argument. Still every character had and kept a specifically unique energy that related to them personally. I think keeping each character on point throughout is so much harder than Alex, Adam and Vero make it look.

We’ve all seen a LOT of “gearing up for battle” scenes in film and TV, but there wasn’t a great deal of cliche in this one. Not easy to pull off at all. Again, all in the acting.

However it really started to get complex for Team Silver at the glass box. Duncan’s doubts starting to show, but they weren’t simple. He wasn’t saying that he was wrong or actually regreted thing, but it was clear he wasn’t happy. Then watching Sircea play the hysterical Diva and try to “silly” him out of this mood until the end when she hits the nail on the head and delivers a scalpel description of a dying Duncan and his “love,” Kyle crying over him. She was amazing because she was “acting” with such purpose and, at least in that moment, Duncan knew she was right. She needed him then more than now so she did what she had to do to keep him moving in the right direction.

Then the mass confusion and tension of the battle. Everyone so very much themselves and yet we, as readers, are rocketing back and forth between characters and altercations, seeming triumphs and struggles. Finally Sircea blowing Mitch out of the sky with such clarity of purpose and NO hesitation and Duncan and his dampener, clearly pulling off the plan with no regrets… until seemingly now? How much of that face in panel #1 is about killing a girl and how much do you think it’s about all of it suddenly getting very real.

And, as I wrote previously, Sircea changes on a dime. Dead real in these pages. No less delicious, but there’s definitely a feeling that she’s not pulling any punches. So, all those performances and mood swings and here we are on page 4.

Panel #1: Duncan’s face and line say so many things here. Look at that face. I’d swear, based on his expression, he NEVER thought of killing any specific girl in cold blood. What that says about him as gay man, former mob enforcer, super vilain, I’m not sure. I’m also not sure how it relates to age (which makes Sircea’s next line awesome). But the low angle of the shot and acting are right on. He looks completely shocked and sets her next line up perfectly.

Panel #2: Sircea says this so simply and honestly. I mean… exactly. So what is your point?

Panel #3: A touch of the Diva just to prove she’s way ahead of everyone. “Your boys.” “Your toys.” Referencing that “keeping them alive” at all is his CHOICE. Slam.

Implicating that what is important to him is his amusement and, perhaps, not their plan at all? Oh, and so smartly making light of his instincts and purposes. Ouch. Pointing out to Duncan that Amanda IS the real threat and responsible for what’s happened. Surprise old man. She read you again.

Panel #4: BUT this is the genius panel. Her expression and that line support each other perfectly. They say so much with so little. I’ll bet that expression is pure her. She’s not working him or putting on any theatrics. She’s going right for his jugular and that line says it all. “Do you need EVERYONE to love you?” OUCH. OUCH. OUCH. What more cutting thing can you say to someone who presents himself as the biggest tough guy around? And in this moment, from her point of view, given all their plots and plans. She is exactly right.

Honestly, this is so much more layered, sophisticated and deft than 99% of what we ever get in this genre. I love these pages watching her ramp up to this last panel is delicious. You guys make this such a pleasure. I look forward to every page. Thank you.

    • Her Goddessness is definitely play The Duncanator like a fiddle. She knows exactly which strings to pluck and which to strum and which to nudge gently. She is amazing.

I’m still trying to decide if the Duncanator is appalled at killing someone he considers a child up close and personal or if he’s trying to not have Kyle hate him anymore than Kyle does. I mean it’s bad enough that he used/abused Kyle and is willing to blow people up/give them as demon food, but to kill his friends, those he considers family so they don’t interfere in what he and Sircea are doing of possibly saving the world I guess is a step too far?

      • Klaus

In the unforgettable words of Marigold Farmer: “Can it be both?”

      • Chris Dangerfield

When you talk about Kyle possibly hating Duncan more than he already does, that brings up a very interesting theoretical question: Is there a maximum amount of hate that one can reach? Or does hate infinitely continue to build up until your head explodes or, in Kyle’s case, he goes nuclear?

I mean honestly. Look at Kyle’s face. I keep waiting for smoke to come out of his ears. Still, I guess it can always get worse. (Ho hum. Pig’s bum).

        • Great quote! I love Carrie Fisher. She is a goddess. (I hope Sircea didn’t hear that, but even she would have to admit the awesomeness that is Carrie Fisher.)

I think rage and hate have different levels. There is white hot rage and there is cold rage. Each level causes a different reaction.

At this point, I think Kyle just wants to thrash him, to put him away, and be done with it. I think if Duncan killed or allowed the Commander to be killed, I don’t think there would be any place Duncan could hide that Kyle would not find him and make him wish he had never embarked on this journey of life.

    • And I thank you for another awesomely fun play-by-play, Chris. A real treat for me. 🙂

  • *Psst* I see there’s now an ad for the comic ‘Sir, Butler & Boy’ here on the site.

If you like to read gay things with a BDSM/roleplay theme (and a lot of smut) this is the comic for you – or rather comics, since it’s a bunch of shortstories with these characters. Very smutty-smutty 🙂
It’s made by Tab, author/artist of ‘Khaos Komix’ and ‘Shades of A’ (though very different and much more NSFW than the other comics)

(trigger warning, there’s is heavy BDSM in most of the stories)

    • Yukiness

Thank you for the recommendation. It was a pleasant read.

  • Jason Moon

Okay, PP just stole the webcomic!
“I was just a girl, once!” Hmmm, was there something in her past that brought that to an end, or am I just reading something into a statement that was probably rhetorical?
Love the last panel. WHAT DOES SHE KNOW? ANYTHING? Or is this just manipulation? And is Anni as pleading as he seems? Why is he apparently stepping up for the Commander? Why should he give a damn about her?

    • Kate G

I tend to take it as more of a, “YEA, AND?” She’s kind of fed up with him in my opinion.

  • JozefAL

Was just checking the Advocate’s website, and LO! and behold, a link to an Out.com article on Alex and The Young Protectors.

    http://www.out.com/popnography/2016/1/27/gay-superhero-graphic-novel-raised-133k-available-pre-order

The article isn’t very long but it certainly helps spread the love.

    • Chris Dangerfield

Thanks for the alert. You’re right it’s nice, short and does spread the love. I did the Twitter thing, because it does give a heads up on the pre-orders being available for those coming to it after the Kickstarter…

    • fujoshifanatic

As Kyle would say, sweet! I just saw on Alex’s Facebook that he got a mention in the Gaily Grind as well: http://www.thegailygrind.com/2016/01/28/young-protectors-is-the-gay-superhero-comic-weve-been-waiting-for/

    • Klaus

They do not mention that this is only part of the story. Some buyers may be disappointed.

  • Wherever the Duncanator is coming from with his statement that Commander is just a girl and Sircea’s comment about needing basically everyone to love him, I can’t wait to find out the answer on the next page. Will he deny it? Will he continue to argue? Will he just acquiesce? What’s going to happen? #iwannaknownow!

    • Chris Dangerfield

A+ use of “the” TYP hashtag!

  • And! Mr. Duncanator, Her Goddessness really doesn’t think much of you. I don’t think she ever has. I just thought you should know.

    • Chris Dangerfield

You are so good to him. He’s clearly not having his “sharpest knife in the drawer day”. I think this proves that you, the mouse crew with the vibranium life jackets and the good ship Duncan are still afloat. Sorta. In a slightly leaky way. But good job Admiral!

      • We may be in over our heads, but we’re still floating. 😛

  • Chris Dangerfield

I just gotta say that having just re-read this GN, to get back in the swing before starting Chapter 4, I never thought I would be more than a mild fan of Sircea. Back in the day when she was feeling baby Kyle up with her tentacles and sending them off to Hong Kong… I remember thinking she’s Fab, but okay…

Now, I have a serious boy-crush on her (no worries Sylibub, she can just resurrect me as your zombie gay friend when needed). She has evolved into one of the most interesting characters in this Novel. No doubt. Now THAT is a very pleasant surprise.

Don’t worry Spooky you’re still my guy, but the PP is the bomb… it had to be said.

    • Earl Patterson

You can keep Spooky, I’ll take Kyle

      • Klaus

        Are you fireproof?

      • Chris Dangerfield

HA! Well, if you have a fire-proof weenie. Then… you go for it.
If you got it, flaunt it, I say! 😀

        • Earl Patterson

          Sunscreen lotion should help :p

          • Chris Dangerfield

            HA! Protection Level #666. 😀

  • Chris Dangerfield

I was enjoying the comments below about how Kyle and Amanda might be feeling and how Duncan was/is reacting to Sircea’s working him up.

This is just me guessing, but I’m pretty sure Kyle is about as mad as he’s ever been. Not the jerked around crazymadscaredfuriousbetrayed feeling of the hell-date. I think that surprised him as much as it did all of us. So that one was a big mix. However, in these pages, I just read pure fury from Kyle, but that’s just my read.

However, Amanda? I don’t think Amanda gives a rat’s ass what Duncan thinks of her. After growing up, listening to the idiotic things people think all her life, I think she’s pretty immune to any dismissive bullsh*t, intentional or unintentional. Given her pretty consistent maturity (running all the way back to her handling of Detective Parker in the Spooky Bonus Comic), I’ll bet her mind is running a million miles a second trying to figure a way out. What Duncan says about her at this moment means absolutely zero to her.

    Just some thoughts…

    • Klaus

      Very insightful thought they are.

  • JM

Man, I feel like the two of them have been having this argument for ages. Clearly, Duncan has gone soft, and now cares about collateral damage. He’s not the same dude that she once teamed up with. Or, maybe, he’s always been this way but she never noticed? Either way, Sircea needs to either dump him or let him have his way, and stop dancing around this.

    • Klaus

Or maybe ge gas always been this way but she has never pushed him liked this. Because it has not really mattered to her before.

  • Mir

The last panel had me like; OOOOOOooOOH BURN!! Lol.

    Edit:

Also, after reading some of the comments I don’t think Duncan was saying she was a weaker sex, because otherwise I think he would’ve said “she’s a woman”. But he uses girl, as in she is young. But also there is a possibility if he really really doesn’t want her to execute anyone, he’s willing to play that card, but then again Mrs. PP over here is also a woman so I don’t think he would try to come off as someone who sees women as weak to someone like her. She might have had her fair share of people underestimating her power because of her sex, but then ya’know proves that to be wrong and she blows their brains off shortly after lol.

    O. M. G. Panel 2…. Those eyes…. Those Eye LASHES! Eyebrows on point. That panel looks like her professionally done Glamour Shot with a nice classy filter…. Holy CRAP that looks good Art Team!

    • Chris Dangerfield

Good lighting and makeup are EVERYTHING!

      • Kate G

Good makeup and a good eyebrow wax/pluck are EVERYTHING (well, on top of
lighting.) Sadly, I’m one of those folks whose great eyebrow job only
lasts three days tops so my selfies look great for….3 days. This is why I only get my eyebrows plucked professionally before competitions or for special events. I don’t understand the people who can make eyebrow maintenance look so easy! Mine is a 24/7 job. Stupid hairy thick beasts. I should name them Bert and Ernie.

        • Mine were pretty bad when I was younger. But I think I may have over plucked and now they don’t want to grow back in except where they don’t need to grow in. Sigh.

          • Kate G

I have a few places that won’t grow back from Trichotillomania in the places, of course, that need to be filled in. I have this one tiny area in my right eyebrow near the arch that won’t grow. But EVERYTHING ELSE? Weeds. Above, below, to the sides, between my brows….I look like Bert if I don’t use an eyebrow shaver and some tiny scissors (I’m prohibited from tweezers) at least once a week. I have beautiful Audrey Hepburn-esque brows when they’re professionally done…but beware, it lasts 3 days before I start looking like a heathen again. That Buzzfeed article about thick eyebrows? Yep, I know all about it.

          • It’s just sticks in my craw that hair only grows where I don’t want it to. Blah!

          • Kate G

Oh yea, I know. Why can’t my leg hair just stay gone? NO! I have to shave those beasts of burden once every other week in summer (I refuse to shave them more than that. Just, no.) Armpit hair? Why does it grow back so fast? Why do I feel like I’m shaving those mothereffers all of the time? Stay gone…or find your way up onto my scalp where I really need the hair.

          • Exactly! But I’ve basically given up shaving ever again. If I shave too much, I get razor burn. Not enough and I’m chewbacca, so yeah, I’ve decided to learn to love my wayward fur. Ha! (Edit: sorry for the TMI)

          • Kate G

Yea, I have this great thing called hypersensitive skin. Shave even a day before a certain time, hello red skin, red bumps, ashy skin….and *shudders* ingrown hairs. *shudders* No, no, I’ll just wait as long as I can. Thankfully I have pretty fine hair so I can go a good month for my legs and arms. Armpits? Not so much.

Eyebrows…no, those have to be the one beast that have to have thick, crazy hairs. Can’t last a week without working on that beast.

          • And the fun part is when there wasn’t a hair the day before and suddenly it’s there and it’s an inch long. Fun.

          • Kate G

I hate that! It’s always before something important too!

          • Yup! Just like a zit. -_-

          • Kate G

Yep, just like zits. Especially the ones that only stay beneath your skin and cause you untold pain.

          • Those suck so hard!

          • Kate G

Give me whiteheads, give me blackheads but please no cystic acne. I can deal with the first two. Cystic makes your day miserable.

  • davefragments

Note to writers — apropos of nothing in TYP — it is cliche for the Medical Examiner to be eating near or in the autopsy room.

    • Yukiness

I actually learned from a surgeon who was putting stiches in my sister’s face at the time why that is. Once a person dies you are to handle their body no differently than you would preparing chicken or a steak. Coupled with the hour of those classes, being a poor college student, and those classes taking a very long time with no food being allowed in the room, and then seeing all that raw flesh you cannot help but get very hungry. And the habits carry over when you get the job. Same goes for drawing live models and suddenly craving chicken breasts.

      • davefragments

I’ve read too many stories and seen too many TV shows where the Medical Examiner or the Coroner eats food while showing or discussing disgusting things to the detectives. It’s written to be revolting to the detectives. So the exposition is grimaces and stomach churning actions by the detectives while the M.E. or the Coroner monologues a whole crap load of exposition.
That’s the cliche part. The handling of the scene in the same way as the previous five or ten or twenty TV shows or movies.
Those scenes can be written without the cliche. It just takes the writer more work.

  • Justin White

that was a low blow. the words i want to say about OOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Wildroses

Well, I just pre-ordered my copy of book 1. Hopefully I can get my mother to read this one. She refused to read the copy of Artiface I bought because she “hates interrogation stories and that is obviously one,” which was pretty hard to argue with. But she did speak admiringly of the “well designed art layout” on one of the recent YP strips I left up on her computer over Christmas so fingers crossed. She reads a huge amount of manga, comics and graphic novels, so the rare compliments she makes on artwork grab my attention and should be taken as a massive compliment.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      I preordered mine too! 😀

    Ahhhhhhh HA! A little pre-camping mathematics to cheer us up and I didn’t even need @disqus_8gizXhsHgE:disqus , @davefragments:disqus , @saxon:disqus or @disqus_FidZAwLkzS:disqus to figure this out…

So… IF Veronica is in Argentina (I think), then she is five hours ahead of where Alex is! AND if we use a simple Black-Scholes formula to convert:

THUS — Veronica is many many hours ahead of Alex and should already be baking tonight’s page in her future version of our current time. This means the page should be up shortly.

Right? Right Alex? Alex? Bueller?… Bueller?… Bueller?

        D’awwwwww, DFrag always understands what’s important! 😀

  • Doki has been helping her older sister move into mother’s house. Doki has carried lots of heavy things. Doki has climbed lots of stairs. Doki has climbed up and down (carrying things) a mildly steep hill with mud and snow. Doki may or may not be alive for camping.

Doki has been helping from 10 30 to 1745 (5 45PM). With a small break around 1600 (4 00PM) because when she came to get her sunglasses her grandmother was having an “I can just barely breathe” episode and Doki had to stay and make sure she got to breathing okay again.

    • Chris Dangerfield

I think it’s eirie, but laudable the way you’ve split your online persona off from your meat-life persona and then you take such good care to make sure online-Doki is rested and cared for.

I fear my meat-self and my online-self are horribly horribly similar.

(*As I type this, I can feel people everywhere backing away from their computers at this horrible thought… snort*)

      • Doki just sometimes gets in mood to talk in third person. Works better online than irl.

        • Kate G

Katie likes to speak in the third person too. It’s quite fun for Katie to watch people get aggravated when Katie talks in the third person like Yoda.

        • Red

This is soooo Sesshhomaru sama, and I love that about him!

      • Red

        Love your comment!

      • *smiles fondly* Your comment makes me think of the fun times in KotOR with HK-47 the assassin droid. HK was the best and mostly/always called you “meat bag”.

…..now I want to play KotOR *pouts*

    • syllibub

That sounds really stressful — if you need to just switch your brain off for a while and relax away from the computer, take care of yourself!

    • Hugs to you for that day.

    • stickfigurefairytales

*hugs* Poor Doki! That sounds incredibly exhausting. I hope you get some good rest.

    • Kate G

Massive hugs to Doki. Moving sucks.

      • Sister finally decided to get a divorce. No one was surprised. Except her husband, who decided to blame it on her best friend who just got divorced. -_- She has been pondering divorce since August. Everyone has pretty much been “about d*mn time!”

        • Kate G

She has guts, I tell you that. Hats off to her.

    • Red

Doki needs a hug, a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and a body massage… and sissy too…

  • syllibub

This is one of those cliffhanger pages for me — my brain’s been pinging at me all day about the fact that the update’s coming tonight, because it feels like such a crucial moment and I really want to know what Duncan’s response will be. I feel like they’ve talked around the issue enough at this point, and that from a story standpoint it’s time for this kind of direct challenge to Duncan’s character, and for Duncan to drop at least some of his ambivalence one way or the other. Very curious to see what he’ll say.

    • Chris Dangerfield

How funny. I feel exactly the same way but for opposite reasons. I haven’t anticipated a page so much in a while. However, for me it’s anxiousness about what Sircea will do. Duncan has done his ambivalent thing since his monologuing to Kyle at both the warehouse (after the hell-date) and then to Sircea at the glass box. I don’t see him as having any (new) choices. Well I suppose he could attack Sircea or kill one of the team or something, but I don’t feel him as the driver in this page (I could be so wrong, snort).

Sircea however, could do anything at this moment. I never felt her as unpredictable as I have since this chapter started.

(Excusing the issue of an author not wanting to lose key characters, which is always a key in dramatic fiction and very understandable.)

I feel that Sircea could kill someone and I’d believe it of her character. Or open the gate. Or incapacitate Duncan as a no longer needed complication. Or take Amanda and vanish. Or, or, or… I honestly am dying to know if her mood flips, if she cares about any of this really, or if she gets tougher.

I’m so ready to see where she goes next.

      • syllibub

That’s a great point — I’m not sure what she’ll do, either, and it was an unnerving moment last page when she dropped her mask and showed her serious displeasure at Duncan’s continued hesitation. I really liked your earlier post about the “acting” in these pages, and how, more than any of the other characters, Sircea seems to play with and then discard different means of presenting herself depending on what her goals are at that particular time. It does appear very calculated on her part, so to me it seems unlikely that she’d do anything too off-the-wall — or to put it another way, she has a very strong grip on her core self, and isn’t acting on momentary whims and shifts in personality. There’s logic behind everything she does, even when she’s at her most theatrical and apparent unpredictability. If it seems like she could do anything, it’s because it’s not clear what she wants out of this interaction. Once we catch up to her, her actions will make sense.

I also think she cares about this very much. She may have other ways of getting her immortality back, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t seriously invested in this plan succeeding. I doubt Duncan will be able to hedge this time, and the pressure’s greater for him because Kyle is conscious, furious, and like…right there, staring Duncan down through all this.

    • I’m hoping that maybe, for once, Duncan grows a backbone. We see him start to what appears to be standing for himself and then he backs down and shows his belly. If he doesn’t believe in killing Team YP, then he needs to stand firm. Sigh.

Of course I don’t see Sircea putting up with that shit and well, I wonder if she has the power to do away with him?

  • Saxon_Brenton

Further down the comments Mr Chris Dangerfield speculated on how Red Hot would be furious with rage. As part of your camping entertainment, I want to take that and run off on a tangent with it for the purposes of baseless speculation.

Maybe Red Hot is incoherent with rage and is snarling imprecations at Team Silver. His mouth is open, so it’s plausible. But Team Silver is ignoring him, so Alex isn’t bothering to put in any of Red Hot’s word balloons. This would be annoying to Red Hot. Maybe the Priestess even went as far as to cast a silencing spell on the heroes, so that nobody can hear them except for themselves. She has, as we’ve noticed, got a wicked sense of humour.

Alternatively, maybe the power dampeners aren’t *just* holding the heroes suspended in mid-air, but are interfering with their voluntary muscular control. We’ve seen this type of thing before, with the spell that Annihilator used back at the warehouse in chapter 2. (Chap.2 p.33 has the explanation for this.) This hypothesis would actually fit rather well with the array of hand positions that the heroes have been displaying over the last few pages: their limbs are held loosely in a upright position but with enough leeway for them to flollop about because of lack of muscular control. In any case, Red Hot may have already tried to yell abuse/talk reason with Annihilator, and only been able to make those grunting noises like he did in chapter 2 and now is simply not bothering.

Of course, the sensible – and therefore boring – option is that he, like Commander – is watching Team Silver as they bicker and taking careful note of any details that he can use to manipulate, trick, bribe or blackmail the villains with.

Finally, my personal preference. It’s almost certainly wrong – not so much because there’s no evidence for it, but because the body language Red Hot is demonstrating actively suggests against it. I want Red Hot to be reaching inside himself, trying to remember exactly how it felt like when he overcame them dampening of his powers previously. He’d be screwing his eyes closed and saying to himself: “Okay, I was able to produce a puff of smoke back in the market when I was up against Hunter, and I was able to burn Annihilator when we were in Hell. Two different types of dampener, one tech and one magic. Did I feel the same thing both times? Can I use that to summon my powers back online and do a villain BBQ?”

  • Kate G

“Just a girl?” Duncan? She’s. A. WOMAN. I hate it when people say, “I’m just a girl.” I’m 27 (well, as of tomorrow) fucking years old. A girl? A GIRL?! I AM NOT A GIRL. I actually just had this rant with my mom and dad because I still live at home and they still think they can have control over my body. Yes, the 27 year old girl can now tattoo herself whenever and wherever she likes now. If only I could get my curfew of 9 PM lifted.

    • Saxon_Brenton

Happy birthday. Would you like to celebrate with a glass of virtual champagne?

      • Kate G

As long as it’s non-alcoholic. I just remembered it’s Friday so my birthday is on Sunday. Four day migraines, people. My time table is all fudged up.

        • Saxon_Brenton

Oh, definitely not alcoholic – and not just because it’s virtual. Despite being Australian (with all the clichés that go along with that) I’ve never been able to stand the (after)taste of alcohol, so I just don’t bother drinking.
(Amusing anecdote: just before I went off to university my sisters dragged me to a pub in order to find an alcoholic drink that I could tolerate, simply so I’d be able to drink something at uni and ‘be sociable’. They failed. So I only got a quarter-to-halfway through each drink, which they insisted on finishing up because it would be a shame to waste a drink that we’d paid for. Guess who stayed sober and who got roaring drunk during that episode.)

          • Kate G

HA HA HA HA HA. Your sisters sound like a riot. How many do you have?

I just can’t handle alcohol. Whether it’s my medicine, my problems or whatever, I take a sip of wine and I have to have someone help me to a couch to lie down. I just do not metabolize alcohol correctly. I went to a tiny wedding reception with my mom over the summer and it was 98% alcohol. All of the non-alcoholic drinks were gone in minutes because they went to the kids (I snagged some water.) Water, juice, soda, lemonade….is it really that hard?

          • Saxon_Brenton

            Two sisters.

          • Kate G

You know, I’m thankful sometimes I only have one younger brother. That means I only had one enemy in life, not two or three. XD

          • Heh, I have the same thing about not liking the taste of alcohol, but during an experience a little similar to yours, I did find a few drinks I can drink (to a degree of how much alcohol is added) if I feel like it. Still rarely have alcohol though. Can’t stand the taste of wine of beer (coffee too if incl. non-alcoholic).

My similar experience was my mom sending me out for the night with three 5-7 ( 22, 23 & 24) year older guys with the message that they could get me drunk, but they had to look after me and make sure I got back home safe. I was mortified when she told them that directly, just before she let us all out of the car, but they thought she was downright awesome, and it was such a fun day/night.
I was 17, and I had a blast. Showing up with three physical big guys, who clearly was 21+ meant my ID rarely got checked to see if I was 18.

They did the same testing thing. Pubcrawl, each gave a round. If I didn’t like the drink then the one who paid got to finish my drink too. Great night. We took a cab home at 5am, and I was happily drunk.

          • Kate G

HA HA HA HA HA. My mom’s sisters, her boyfriend, and of her sister’s husbands took her out drinking on her 18th birthday (waaaaaaay back in the day here folks before it was raised to 21 years of age.) She first had a Tom Collins because she was afraid….and it went downhill from there. Remember, she has FIVE SISTERS. Two of them should be considered professional drunks. There was no escaping peer pressure.

    • Happy Birthday!!

      • Kate G

        Thanks!

    • syllibub

Happy birthday! I hope the page – and the whole day – is great for you!

      • Kate G

Let’s hope the migraine hangover is mostly gone by my birthday. I’m still all fuzzy. I’m still questioning what day it is. In my head, I know it’s logically Friday as I got a massage yesterday, but it feels like it’s Saturday. The hangover is the worst part of bad migraines!

        • syllibub

Definitely. I’ve only had a multiple-day migraine once, but even the regular ones leave my brain feeling bruised for a while after they’re gone. I feel for you! I hope you feel better, or at least more oriented, soon.

          • Kate G

I haven’t had one like this in a while. I’ve mainly had super bad ones that throw me in bed for one day; the last multi-day one was months and months ago.

I could have gotten rid of it had I had my triptan (I use Frova normally), but my health insurance decided this year that they’d no longer cover it. So we had to go back to the drawing board and find me a new one that wouldn’t affect my heart. I have a new triptan…we’ll just call it a trial stage. I’m not in love with it yet.

    • Wildroses

Ironically, I think Duncan must be around the same age as your parents.

      • Kate G

Pretty close. My mom is 51 and my dad is 55. LOL. All of my teachers when I was little used to say, “My, my, your parents are really young,” and I was like, “Uh, my mom was 24 when she had me. That’s not young. That’s old.” HA HA HA. Of course, now that I think about it, 24 is very young to have kids, especially one with disabilities. Of course, when you are 10, 24 is kind of old.

        • Wildroses

My Dad was only 22 when he had me. I have the opposite problem. Nobody said anything to me growing up, but I’ve had five people see adult me out with my Dad and think we are a couple. Because of the six year gap between my and my brother and that people don’t expect babies to start talking until around two or three, he was in his early thirties when he realised he had a kid with a disability though, which doesn’t seem too young. Although younger parents are better for kids with disabilities I think as there tends to be an awful lot of hidden manual labour involved. My brother generates an awful lot of housework my mother, who is six years older than my Dad, can’t cope with. Cleaners and Dad have to pick up the slack there.

          • Kate G

OH MY GOD, some people have asked if my mom and me are sisters or if my dad and me are siblings. Like, O.o. Uh, no, those are my PARENTS. So embarrassing.

My mom caught onto me having a disability very early because her major is in linguistics. When I wasn’t babbling, she knew I was going to have more issues than the epilepsy. I have bad days where my issues just make everything worse and really good days where my issues can come out to do a lot of good.

Does your brother do any kind of out-of-home therapy that’s fun that gets him out of the house and out of their hair? I do therapeutic horseback riding for 30 minutes every Wednesday.

          • Wildroses

Oh yes, he loves going on outings. He is with an organisation called Baptistcare who send people to take him out for a certain amount of hours each week, and my parents get respite money from the government as well. He can’t bear staying home all day and isn’t afraid to ask (sometimes demand) to go out. Days without respite are days which have to be planned around taking him out. He considers walking around shopping centres entertaining, and likes bushwalks and park trips. He loves being driven as well, he really doesn’t mind a 40 minute drive. He used to get taken to cafes a lot, but last year we discovered he was allergic to gluten so now that is too hard.

          • Kate G

Ooooh, ouch. Avoiding gluten is hard. My diet was overhauled when I kept getting flares so it’s much different than it was last year.

I do horseback riding on Wednesdays for fun, massage on Thursdays (to help with my lupus and migraines plus oh that feels good on sore muscles), and therapy on Saturdays. I’m getting to that point where I feel comfortable enough with the horses where I can think about volunteering there so I’ll probably do that. If I go outside at least twice a week in the winter, I’m fine. I’m always outside in the summer. I try to go to the pool or some other outing through an organization for people with developmental disabilities in the summer because I love doing that. The pool is tons of fun for me as I love waterslides.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Ooh, waterslides!

          • Kate G

I spend 99% of my time at the pool outing doing waterslides. Kid you not.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I would too, if I went to a pool with waterslides.

      • I was trying to remember his name! I was certain he had one, but all I could think of was: Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal…

He’s the one. He was found in a box hidden for decades inside a cornerstone. When the curtain went up for the public, he simply croaked. With an audience of one, he was a song and dance man.

PS, tonight I want to listen to Caste Diva

          • I remember that cartoon very well and the guy eventually puts the frog back. I always liked that one.

      • At first glance I almost read that as Michael J. Fox.

He never did a song and dance 😉
