The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter 4—Page 31

196 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter 4—Page 31

It’s such a shame when heroes give you no choice but to kill them, huh?

This week, I sat down with Bryan of the Flame On comics podcast for an in-depth interview, and it was a ton of fun. We cover everything from the origin of The Young Protectors to how I go about hiring artists to what kind of comics art really turns me on. Bryan is a great interviewer and I shared all kinds of stuff. You should absolutely go check it out. (And if you’re coming from that podcast and are wondering where you can order a Young Protectors book and trading cards, etc., my BackerKit page is here and books/prints/everything else will be shipping out in May. Also, you can scroll down the page here for a link to my Patreon page.)

Also, if you’d like to see The Young Protectors penciler Adam DeKraker on camera, check out the Big Gay Fiction Podcast at the 55 minute mark. Adam was selling The Young Protectors Volume One books at the Rainbow Book Fair this month, he’s a very cool guy, and he gives great sales pitch. 🙂

So! Looks like we’re about to witness two close encounters: The Platinum Priestess vs. Commander and The Annihilator vs. Fluke. Who will wind up on top?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

P.S. Thank you so much for all the Happy Birthday wishes! They really made my day. We really do have the best readers in the world here. Y’all rock!

  • Uh-oh!!!!

    • Klaus

      Indeed.

    • Tyler Griffin

      Spaghetti-O

  • Danger danger danger!

    • Tyler Griffin

Danger Will Robinson! Spider Sense is tingling! Boss-Boss- De Plane- De Plane!

  • syllibub

Are you sure you can’t just set your staff to “stun,” babe…?

    • Not liking your wifey a lot right now >.> …or rather even less. She’s fierce, but bad to the bone :-p

      • syllibub

        *dreamy sigh* I know~

        • Tyler Griffin

You can’t change your partner, you can just find their good qualities and love them for who they are. And some of them just happen to be 6000 year old bad ass ex-goddesses

    • Cman65

One doesn’t do stun one kills

    • timemonkey

I’m sure she could, but where’s the fun in that?

  • davefragments

Here comes a bottle bearing Fluke to save the day!

    • We can hope. Throwing a bottle vs. charging Duncan… what comes first?

      • davefragments

        That’s like a chicken/egg question.

      • Tyler Griffin

Go go gadget Flask of Oil Slick!

      • Klaus

Duncan is super fast. He is able to dodge Kyle’s fire blast at close range. A thrown bottle would be no problem for him.

        http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/typ/ete-page-4/

        • Tyler Griffin

Damnit People, this is why you ALWAYS keep an AoE effect on hand! I’m pretty sure Duncan doesn’t have Uncanny Dodge, it’s rogue feat.

          • timemonkey

Everyone knows the heavy guy is always immune to splash damage!

        • timemonkey

He’s also invulnerable and arrogant, he may not bother dodging at all.

          • Klaus

            There is that.

  • stickfigurefairytales

No more Mrs. Mr. Nice Guy!

  • Seeing the look of the destroyed platform, shouldn’t say the dampner be cablooey?

  • stickfigurefairytales

Kick her, Amanda! Kick her good!

  • Cman65

    Big luck or big trouble

  • I’m enjoying the view of five minions wrapped in snakes now..though the four of them is a little too close to Spooky and Mitch for my comfort now.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Spooky is the snakes’ boss, though. He should be okay.

      • Yes, but don’t want them rolling all over Mitch while he’s being healed, while they both heal.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          That’s true.

        • Tyler Griffin

Hey, a good roll with a hot snake can do wonders for making you feel better

      • stickfigurefairytales

Snake Boss, the new reality show on TLC.

        • I’d watch that show. 🙂

          • Adam Black

Didnt you say Spooky had a TV show?

      • timemonkey

Depends on how they work. He’s not actively controlling them, for all we know they’re feral and will attack anyone.

  • Oh dear…

  • Next page, Duncan trips and goes flying at super speed and hits Sircea.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hahahahaha!

    • It will be difficult to fly back and hit her, still standing next to circle, but I like this suggestion.

      • Well if Fluke’s powers are still at full charge?

        • The good or the bad side of it? That’s the question. When does it switch. One thing is certain; anything can happen.

          • The good? I would think if the bad was now charged shit would be hitting the fan.

          • Klaus

Anything can happen, but will it?

          • That’s the question 😉

          • timemonkey

There’s also the question of which is which. One can easily seem like the other when you don’t know the possibilities and long term effects. For all we know having the demon snakes attack the minions was bad luck as it forced the bigger villains into action.

          • Klaus

That is the problem with Flukes power. If something bad happens, that will cause something good to happen, and vice versa. Will it ever end?

      • Duncan rolled a nat 1 to run down the stairs causing his feet to slip out from under him and for him to fall backwards into PP.

      • Malusz

You don’t know whatever it is Fluke’s phials do

    • Samurai Jack

Or Sircea’s energy blast misses Amanda and hits Duncan instead. Her explaining it would be priceless…

      • Adam Black

        I m thinking that too

      • Klaus

Wouldn’t it be great luck if the blast destroyed his dampenerdampener?

      • Fingers crossed!!

  • Wildroses

Well Sircea’s reaction is unpleasant but unsurprising. She was itching for a reason to kill them, and now she has one. Look at her, she’s not even mad she was proved right!

    • davefragments

Duncan warned her about having a full-scale fight or a bloody mess when Laampros steps through the portal. She apparently doesn’t care about that. However, it’s Duncan’s life on the line with Laampros. It’s not Sircea who will suffer if Laampros gets angry or if the world’s armies arrive to blast Laampros.

    • MoonByte

She’s like “Aw, thanks Santa, I really wanted to cause some bloodshed today!”

  • Jeldenil

Oh, I must have missed your birthday then. A belated happy birthday! Today my twins have theirs 🙂

    • Klaus

      Congratulations.

      • Jeldenil

        Thanks!

    • Thank you! (And happy bday wishes to your twins!)

  • Adam Black

    Hi Wolfpack,

    I think its interesting ( according to TvTropes ) Spooky ( and Red Hot s ) powers are hell-based;

And Platinum Presistess Powers are Light/Holy based.

I wonder if Spooky is immune to Kyles powers or they could charge him up.

And Neither one is seemingly effected by the grey-working.

I think this will be addressed in some future plot. Maybe even near-future.

And what Heavenly power does PP actually serve? And will the deal with Laampros screw this up?

And If PP can channel Laampros power, shouldn’t that make a stronger case that Kyle can be a battery for Spooky ?

    • Klaus

Why do you think that PP is serving some heavenly power? Anyone can call herself “Priestess”.

      • bronakopdin

I understood he took this info from TvTropes, didn’t check though and who knows who put it there ^^

        • Adam Black

I did, but its backed up by the comic.

Spookys powers also seem to be hell-based.

This also explains why he thought he was a monster..being a Demon-Lord, and master.

          • bronakopdin

I never doubted that about Spooky’s powers being hell-based, it was more about where the “divine” part with Sircea is supposed to come from

          • Adam Black
          • bronakopdin

I got as much that you got the idea from the TV Tropes but that doesn’t neccessarily mean it’s true for PP, is it? ^^
Do you have anything out of the comic directly to base that idea of yours on?

      • Adam Black

She doesnt just call herself that.
        Her powers reflect it.

The weakening of the walls also might explain her loss of immortality, in that she cant use her full powers in a hell-realm.

        • Klaus

Her power is magic, not divine intervention. Compare with Kyle, whose power comes from a greater (though not higher) being. He is powerless due to the dampener, she is not.

          • Adam Black

I know her power is magic.

but the source of it appears to be divine, and it probably originates with a divine intervention or birth.

The divine source may be why she didnt go insane post grey-working ( unless she already was ) .

We know in comic that not all magic-rules are the same, so generalities dont mean much .

We dont know how the dampener works either, so we cant use that as justification for anything.

I wouldnt rule out that Kyle doesnt have ( other un-manifested ) divine-powers too— we dont know his mother! I have a suspicion he can regenerate or resurrect.

          • Klaus

            Like the phoenix?

          • Adam Black

            Actually, yes.
I wonder why i didnt consciously make that connection.

    • Flamesilocks

I doubt she serves any kind of ‘deity’ considering she called herself a goddess previously. Most likely Platinum Priestess is a name that was given to her by the media, I would think.

      • timemonkey

Or she’s posing as her own priestess in her weakened state.

        • Adam Black

Great answer! But i think there is more to it.

      • Adam Black

Nah, she has too much class ( and narcissism ) for that. She is self-named.

      • Klaus

The name is used in the prose story, even though she is entirely unknownto the media. It may be a code name Exsec has assigned her. Maybe she dislikes it? Or maybe she has accepted it with glee?

Is she still keeping a low profile at the time of this story? If so her choice of outfit for the Dunacan/Kyle date is somewhat strange.

      • Adam Black

Why wouldnt she serve deity or light-power?

She goes back to Ancient Greece. The deity doesn’t have to be good.

        • Columbine

Or at least…not the modern idea of ‘good’. Does she actually go back to Ancient Greece or just that time period?

          • Adam Black

            Near East, Mediterranean.
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circe

          • Columbine

Hmmmmm I do know the story of Circea but do we have any in-comic confirmation that the myth is based on PP? I might well be wrong but her memories didn’t seem to suggest Greek cultures to me.

          • Adam Black

I think Alex conformed this long ago.

Our Resident Greece-Austrailian disagreed and correctlty guessed she was from Greek myth. i think its been Cannon ever since.

And Greece -speaking territories were wider then and encompassed the western shore of Turkey, and Sicily and Crete.

          • Columbine

Yes pet, I know, I’m half Greek (Greek, Cypriot, Saudi, Brit with a heavy shot of West African influence via too much interest in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana and Mali if it makes a particular difference to you) and I lived with a classicist for two years. I know where the places I’m named after were. But I haven’t seen anything in her flashbacks I can remember that seemed particularly Greek and if Alex said she was Ancient Greek in the comments I didn’t see it. She certainly doesn’t look Greek.

          • Klaus

In the comments, somebody speculated that Sircea was inspired by the Greek sorceress Kirke. Alex confirmed this (and expressed surprise that it was not pronounced sirse).

          • Columbine

I’m still not sure that counts as confirmation that the character is from a part of Ancient Greece- ‘author took inspiration from’ isn’t quite the same as ‘character equals this myth’…… I guess this is only gonna be confirmed either way by Alex huh?

      • Columbine

That kind of depends on the culture. In Ancient Greece people *were* deified, and there was a process for it. Usually they were declared gods only after they died and they had to be pretty damn impressive for it to happen (also still subordinate to the main gods).

In some Voodoo traditions certain gods were supposedly once mortal (Hevioso and Ogun usually, the gods of the sky and created objects respectively). This is more my interpretation but I think there’s also a suggestion that anyone can become a deity in there and that it might be the overall aim of any life, the same way the ‘aim’ in the Indian reincarnation cycle is to break the cycle of rebirth.

  • bronakopdin

ooh! I’m so bad with birthdays >////< Happy happy belated birthday, Alex!!! 🙂

So the silver team is going to charge in, too, now!
I really hope nothing bad will happen T^T
Maybe one of those viles is a protection spell? Please throw it at Amanda, Paul!

  • Chris Dangerfield

I’ll wait for color to fully pontificate. I knew that this whole Fluke-enabled shenanigan would would only get really nummy when Dunc and Sirc realized what was happing…

However, even in lovely pencil, I can still say that Sircea gives off the fabu attitude like no other former goddess or priestess I know. She’s hard not to just love for her snarky ways… I’m looking forward to seeing what and whom she actually blasts.

What IS up with our glass box of sacrifices?

    Thanks Team Woolf!

    • Adam Black

You mean our Volunteers in the Box seats?

    • Columbine

Much as I love Sircea I think in my mind the ultimate title still goes to Servalan. 🙂

      • Ah yes, Servalan, the most glamorous villain of all. 🙂 Of course, *she* thinks she’s The Good Guy.

        • Columbine

There are some wonderful Doctor Who radio plays running now that have Jacquliene Pearce (Servalan) playing….absolutely-not-Servalan-for-copy-right-reasons-kthx. It’s brilliant.

      • Samurai Jack

Ah, yes, Servalan! I agree, she holds the title. Duncan (For our purposes, let’s call him Travis) would never have talked her out of killing our heroes. “While there’s life, there’s threat!” 🙂

    • You’re very welcome, Chris! Colored page up shortly. 🙂

    • Adam Black

      @chrisdangerfield:disqus is up

  • Klaus

If anyone doubted it, here is the proof: the dampener does not block Sircea’s power.

    • I also think much of her power is related to the staff, so wonder how it would go if it broke.

      • T Dibbler

        Oooh… there’s something to ponder.

      • Klaus

She took the time to summon it at the start of the battle. Which may not mean anything, It took very little time, and she may not have considered the YP a real threat.

  • DonnaC

Great interview on Flame On podcast, Alex. I’m listening to the last 10 mins now and the reactions of the parents buying comics for their teenage sons was wonderful and very promising to see such accepting parents.

    • I just finished listening to it a few minutes ago. Great interview.

  • There’s a certain amount of gloating there, and I think some of it’s about being able to tell *Duncan* that she had no choice. After all, she has to keep him on her side for a little longer yet. 🙂

  • Nate

    Flyboy-sense… tingling!

It would be a lucky break if he blitzed her right now, no?

(EDIT: Darn it, he’s still unconscious. 🙁 )

    • T Dibbler

Well, he was still unconscious when we last saw him a few minutes ago, that doesn’t mean he can’t still suddenly pop up. 🙂

      • Look at the bottom of panel 1. Spooky and Mitch is still down. But you’re right, they could suddently be ready; not knowing how Spooky’s healing works.

        • T Dibbler

Oops, I hadn’t noticed them. Thanks for pointing that out. 🙂

  • bandanajack

i think duncan is going to intercept pp’s blast, perhaps at great cost to himself…

  • Platinum Priestess looks even more fierce in color, but she scares me right now. She’s going for blood.

  • T Dibbler

And she looks just so cut up about it too.

    • Adam Black

We all express grief in our own way.

  • Saxon_Brenton

“Oh dear” my foot, Priestess. You’ve been waiting for the opportunity to fry the heroes.
In fact [paranoid conspiracy theory alert] the Commander was wrong about Fluke’s powers not being affected by dampener. Fluke is still depowered (but doesn’t realize it) and the reason the antigrav prison pods fritzed out was because the Priestess had placed a delay-action curse on them, so that the Young Protectors would escape and give her the excuse to kill heroes.

    • Adam Black

How do you know Flukes powers didnt compel the PP to do this?

They seem to effect causality retro-actively.

      • Klaus

Do you know the role playing game Over the Edge? Things are very strange in that world. There are several reasons. Here is one: There is a brilliant scientist building a machine that changes the world to fulfill the wishes of this one man, who is a very ordinary type of guy. Uneducated and not powerful in any way. He does not know anything about it, and the scientist has no idea what she is doing or why. She has never heard of the man. The reason is that the machine is so powerful that it affects the past. To achieve its purpose, it must be buildt. Therefore it is manipulating the past so that it will be.

        • Adam Black

          Interesting.
          Nope, never heard of it.

All Flukes actions seem to happen from events already set up. Its very Bill-and-Ted .

          • Chris Dangerfield

So, you’re suggesting Fluke is high as a kite, dude? )

    • Klaus

I would not put it beyond her.

    • TheManBehindTheCurtain

Except that she was busy with fixing the ring when Spooky’s magic snakes came to Flukes aid. I don’t think she could cast anything on them to cause this (either before or after they escaped) without it being pretty evident since they belong to Spooky and not her. That Spooky could control them would make sense though, but he’s busy with FlyBoy.

  • Shiny Gwilly

    welp, we’re screwed now
i love the wide shot in the first panel, takes a moment to show where everyone is and how far apart they are as well, i assume there will only be more chaos to follow now that Anni and PP are entering the fight
YOU’RE REALLY PUSHING YOUR LUCK FLUKE, I KNOW YOU’RE ALL SUPER CHARGED, BUT HOW LONG WILL IT LAST

  • Adi Zeller

I’m not sure why (well, that’s not true – it’s because of Dragon Age’s Flemeth) but I always hear the Platinum Priestess speaking with Kate Mulgrew’s voice.

    • timemonkey

Everything is better with Kate Mulgrew’s voice.

  • Hours Left

Happy Belated Birthday Alex! Hope you had a good one! 🙂

  • Cman65

would be very good luck if PP hits Annie

  • D. G.

Uh oh. Anni against fluke iz def bad luck!

    • Klaus

      For both, I would think.

  • Klaus

In the interview Alex linked above, he says that he might contine The Young Protectors after Engaging the Enemy is done if there is interest. I can’t imagine that there would be any lack of interest. Alex mentions three characters he may focus on. I have a couple of other suggestions. That dark secret in Gordon’s past. Unless of course he resolves this in the current story. And Cory as the new boy in class.

  • EyeDontNo

And Fluke is her first target. The blast from the staff misses and hits The Annihilator . While not enough to do permanent physical damage, her lack of concern for Duncan causes Duncan to reconsider Red Hot’s previous claims about Duncan’s place in PP’s plans. The Young Protectors now have an inside man in the PP/Laampros camp. Next chapter…

    • Klaus

It looks more like she is going to plast Amanda.

      • timemonkey

        How lucky for him.

    • I’d say Fluke is Duncan’s goal. You see in panel 3 that Sircea spots Amanda – whom she already wanted to kill, so I’d say that’s where het attention is.

      • EyeDontNo

And panel 1 shows that Anni and PP are on either side of the bone ring, with a almost straight line from both Commander and Fluke to the center of the ring. A shot in Commander’s direction from PP would have to pass through/over Fluke, close enough that his personal powers would definitely have a shot of repelling the blast into Anni. (Hitting a magic bottle may prism the blast to who knows where.)

    • Rick T

Yeah, I am thinking (hoping) that Duncan is going after Fluke but, because he’s going too fast for her to know he’s going to pass in front of it, he gets zapped by Sircea’s magic while she’s trying to hit Commander.

      • Klaus

With a little luck, it could happen.

  • Kit the Coyote

“It’s such a shame when heroes give you no choice but to kill them, huh?”

Yes and she looks so broken up and conflicted by that too.

  • fujoshifanatic

Just finished the podcast, and I was so pleased! I’m normally not a podcast kind of girl, but you really give great interview, Alex! Thank you so much for sharing that link! Between enjoying that, and looking forward to a bunch of good stuff–new job (yay!), learning Japanese at school, getting my Kickstarter goodies and definitely going to Flamecon this year, the summer is already off to a great start. Hope your birthday was awesome Alex, and that this year will be filled with many more good things than bad.

As for this page, it’s so fantastic! I love how evilly gleeful PP is over having to engage Amanda, and just the thought of Fluke engaging Anni is making my whole body clench! The whup-ass potential of the next few pages will be epic, and I can’t wait! It’s time to fight the monsters!

  • Chris Dangerfield

Okay I do love it when the fecal matter hits the rotary bladed air circulator! Whhhhheeeeeee…

Panel #1: Okay I love it when wide shots like this are so clear, both in terms of staging, but also that Vero’s colors so clearly let you instantly know who is where. Duncan’s red glow, Sircea’s silver/blue, TYP’s costumes, our snakes. It’s just a snapshot that you can take in so easily. THENNNN you can luxuriate and see exactly who is where and doing what. Great job.

Panel #2: HA! My first thought was — now don’t drop the “bone ring” Duncan, but it figures. Things just would have to be stable. Humph! I do love that determined expression as he takes off. It does make one’s stomach kinda go squeeeeeee.

Panel #3: Just a great expression on Sircea. I love that it’s Amanda she notices and you can feel the motion in her head turn, despite the fact that this is a still frame. That takes real talent and Adam and Vero get applause for that bit of subtlety.

Panel #4: I totally love the way this panel breaks frame with her lance and power. Her line of dialog is perfect Sircea and I’d be surprised if it’s not Amanda she’s aiming at. She knew that girl was trouble and she was right. You don’t get to be 6,000 years old without knowing your shite. Her expression is so perfectly her. Well done!

Panel #5: I love the emotion in this tiny panel. Duncan moving in for the kill like a freight train. Paul watching the train coming. Probably hoping like mad that his “luck” is still running on full-power. He’s got one of Spooky’s tubes (hmmmmm… what could that be?). This is all going to be about luck.

And where… oh where… is Laampros?

Clearly there is still more to come. Oh and I vote for moar, much moar TYP in Alex’ future. Which incidentally should be my future also. For shame! How self-serving of me. Thanks Alex, Adam and Vero. This is a super fun page and just what this week needed.

    • Klaus

And note how the glow from Sircea’s staff hides how the healing of Flyboy is going, while still allowing us to see where Spooky and Flyboy are.

      • Chris Dangerfield

I know. Love that. It took me a minute to see to. I was really hoping for a hint that they were okay and so it was good see them a bit back from the fray.

    • Vaira

Ad 3: Her hair is blocking Amanda’s sight. Although PP probably noticed her, just a bit earlier.

      • Chris Dangerfield

Possibly true, but I accept it for being so aesthetically gorgeous and the motion I “feel” that we’re seeing allows me to think she might continue to turn just that tiny bit more. So, I regardless of who she’s blasting I think her first look was to see what Amanda was and what she was up to. But that’s just me.

Much of the fun of these pages is that we can all come away with multiple interpretations and then decide later what was really happing.

I mean, honestly, she could be blasting the glass box to start Laampros’ arrival. She’s a focused little sorceress, our Sircea. 🙂

        • Vaira

Yeah, I guess that was the point. I just have a very strong and independent practical sense kicking in at random moments. “Yeah, sure, as if she was able to run in those heels.” “If my hair was caught in such a wind I would be combing it for an hour before I could untangle it.” “And not a stain of mud on their clothes?” And so on 🙂

    • Tyler Griffin

      Is that a Homestuck quote?

      • Chris Dangerfield

I don’t have any idea. I’ve been using it forever… it sorta says IT. Don’t you think?

  • SchalaRenee

I don’t know if it’s just hope, but I think Anni is trying to SAVE them from Sircea instead of kill them. After all, he stated that he doesn’t kill young people and that Sircea was being too rash or something. I can easily imagine him grabbing Paul and pulling him out of the way, which would save him, but also stop his efforts to stop the minions. Keep his ‘morals’ but also help himself and Sircea.

  • KatKaleen

    NOOOOO!

    • Klaus

      Yes!

  • Jason Moon

Yes, I can see that PP is SO RELUCTANT to kill them. Since they twisted her arm… 🙂

In the podcast Adam is wearing a YP shirt, will that ever be available for sale? It looks cool.

Sircea goes to zap Fluke but Duncan shoves him out of the way/picks him up and runs. Or maybe that’s just my wishful thinking. I could see it going the other way since Duncan was the first to react.

    • I know, right! Alex wore one too at YaoiCon back in september. I asked him about it, and I think he had a few – but not with him (I wanted one). I can’t fully remember, but I think he had gotten them made for earlier cons as a test, but didn’t really sell.
I think he talked about maybe gettin some made in offial YP colors, white/orange (though I’d still love to get one in the black/grey variant), so who knows. Maybe as a kickstarter thing?

  • TheManBehindTheCurtain

My take on this is that Duncan is going after Fluke first and just intends to knock them out again. However if you look at the first panel Fluke is nearly in line between PP and the Commander.

My bet is that either Duncan slips in the mud (which is all over) and gets blasted by PP by mistake allowing Fluke to go after the power nullifier.

Alternately, Fluke’s power causes the power nullifier protector Duncan is wearing to short out (like it did to the containment device) and Duncan suddenly slows/slips in the mud and get blasted by PP by accident. Without his powers to protect him (and considering PP murderous intent to the Commander) Duncan could very well die and stop the summoning as a result.

Oh yeah, maybe it’s just me but in the first panel it looks like PP is behind the ring and facing the Comanders direction. As such there would be no need for her to “look over her shoulder” to see her fighting.

    • David Welbourn

Yes, I think it’s very possible that PP’s blast, meant for Commander, will hit the Annihilator instead. And I imagine PP’s reaction to that will be “Sorry, not sorry, darling” before she re-aims for blast two.

    • Keneu

That sounds like a comedy gag instead of a stroke of luck. =D

  • Kate G

*gasps* NOOOOOOO! Sircea, you are NOT allowed to killed the Good Luck Charm! BAD, Sircea, BAD! *whacks with a rolled up newspaper* Put the stick down! *whacks some more*

  • Earl Patterson

Red Potion! I’m come for you!!

  • Pikinanou

Who would have thought summoning an evil demon king would be so complicated?!

    • Chris Dangerfield

Diabolical bureaucracies. Sorta, makes sense in a cosmic way. I mean it is basically Hell-ish… LOL.

      • Klaus

Have you read Larry Niven’s Inferno?

        • Chris Dangerfield

Maybe? It sounds familiar and I’ve read tons of Niven. I’ll check.

  • Sapfo

I know this is just my innocent mind trying to protect me, but it almost looks like the “gate” is made out of forks, and not bones. 😉

    • Chris Dangerfield

Forks normally used for eating strawberries… I’m quite sure.

      • Sapfo

sudenly I am very scared again! O___o

    • Big forks, little forks, and especially for David Rose, pitch forks!!

      • Sapfo

Everyone can join in the fun ^^

        • Yup! Forks for everyone!!

          • Sapfo

            but non for berries….

          • Berries can has forks.

          • Sapfo

*grab fork and starts running around* =D

          • *ducks* Berries can has forks with protective coverings. 😀

          • Sapfo

            FOOOOOORRRK!!! =D

  • Snorlaxation

If the bad luck is still going strong, than maybe Annihilator will soon be finding himself in the path of PP’s blast

    • Chris Dangerfield

From your lips to whatever (in this AU’s) deities’ ears.

  • Ah, I’m finally caught up again!! It was great to read so much in one go. Now to wait for pages like everyone else…

    • Sapfo

Welcome back Zelda! There is cookies if you like some ^^

    • Welcome back Commodore!

  • Stephen Hutchison

“Now you’ve given me no choice…” Right b. Because we FORCED you to use your tuning-fork of evil to shoot a dethzappy.

At the end of this all, I profoundly wish to see Sircea grow old and helpless. She’s spent far too much time with the semblance of youth and power and doesn’t seem to have learned how to people … it’s a horrible thought that someone would be stuck as a narcissist for thousands of years. Not that she’d be likely to learn anything new with even a short period spent as an ordinary mortal.

Also, how much DOES she really know? Human brains are remarkably good at storing encrypted stuff (memories) but the access can become quite difficult when you get to a certain age, because you have noise that cross-links and makes it harder to individuate. I used to do a thing when I was younger where I would deliberately remember as far back as I could, moving slowly forward, so I wouldn’t forget stuff. (I was surprised to learn that this isn’t something most people do.)
With PP’s accrued age, it’d be very hard to do that, as it takes quite a while to go over the important things.

    • Chris Dangerfield

She just can’t remember her great great great great (x100) grandkid’s names… that’s not really that unreasonable for an immortal sorceress. Hell, my Great Aunt calls me by my brother’s name… I don’t even bother to correct her. 😀

      • Stephen Hutchison

That’s actually a POSSIBLE consequence of senile dementia, I’m afraid. (Unless she never got you figured out.)

My great grandmother, who died in the late 1960s, and my grandmother, in her 80s, both had that form of Alzheimer’s Disease that stole their recent memories first. I resembled my great-grandma’s brother, so she called me by his name, because that’s who she saw.

  • Good morning from Vikings land (somehow that didn’t post a couple minutes ago)

    New page is up http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/typ/ete-ch4-page-32/

    • davefragments

      Rats, I missed camping

      • I showed up in the middle of Alex posting on patreon. Got tab for page 32 opened just before page was posted. Had just written Good morning here, but apparently forgot to post when I opened tab to new page showing.

        • davefragments

The phone rang and I had to answer. It was a tempest in a teapot. Nothing serious. So I was late.
