I’d listen to the man with the glowing vial if I were you, guys…

Last, week $5+ Patreon got to see a different side of Chapter 1 anti-heroes Hunter and Killer—the sexy side! Comments have included: “That card made my day. it is hysterical and makes me happy.”, and “I was looking forward to this card the most. They’re so cute together! :)” and “The ponytail holder matches the green on the briefs and that just makes me happy for some reason?  Also, obligatory curiosity about how far all that robot stuff extends.”

Check it out!

So! Looks like the team are having to face off against some pretty mean dudes, but poor Fluke is up against four all on his own! How unfortunate! Will they choose to leave him alone? Or will we get to find out what surprises lurk in that glowing bottle in his hand?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • I repeat: GO! GO! GO! GO!

  • I have a magic bottle and I am not afraid to use it!

  • syllibub

I hope Fluke has enough luck left to choose the most effective flask.

  • Hopefully there is quite the bang in those bottles and not just sparkles or a healing potion.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I’m thinking Fluke could probably get away with bluffing at this point. Well, if it were just the minions, at least. Probably won’t work on Anni and PP.

      • I think it would definitely not work on PP, she would recognize the magic.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Ah, good point!

      • I’m just worried the Minions might think to call the bluff all in the glorious name of Herself.

        • stickfigurefairytales

I dunno…minions really do not tend to be known for their smarts.

          • I will give you that. I mean they are working for Herself.

          • bronakopdin

            ha!
Though I think snakeboy deserves a banana xD

        • davefragments

I think they can see Snake Boy

          • What’s a little snake love? 😀

          • davefragments

But that isn’t like “Hold Me, Kiss Me” with Zero Mostel.

          • True! I was just thinking they might not even be thinking of Snake Boy.

          • davefragments

This electric bang was (to them) completely unexpected… SO perhaps they aren’t thinking clearly or even logically. It’s just punch, slash, kick and grab…

          • Now I’m hearing all the sound effects from Batman the tv series

          • stickfigurefairytales

            POW! ZAP! THWACK!

          • Exactly!

          • davefragments

I think the fight against Laampros will look and sound more like that huge battle at the end of Age of Ultron with everyone flying through the air and lots of Ultron robots (think demons with fangs) being ripped apart.

          • I can already see that!!

        • bronakopdin

I said it last page but I wonder whther he really just took them randomly: I thought maybe Spooky gave them a short introduction on the bottles before maybe, so they’d be able to use them in case?

    • bronakopdin

oh I’d want the healing potion… in Spooky’s and Mitch’s direction though ^^

  • davefragments

    …oooh, fight, fight, fight!

  • stickfigurefairytales

I bet that even if there isn’t something super powerful in that bottle, Fluke could manage to convince them that there is, because hasn’t he just proved how powerfully lucky he is right now?

    • Cydney Sabin

Knowing Fluke’s luck, those are the most powerful explody ones.

    • bronakopdin

on the other hand it might have used up his luck though and a streak of bad luck will follow >_<'

    • Klaus

Do the minions know that? But it does not matter. They have seen the snakes. They have seen the explosion.

  • syllibub

Very curious to see how Duncan and Sircea are reacting to this latest upset — maybe they’re using whatever time the minions can buy them to finish placing the portal before entering the fight themselves.

    • davefragments

One of the things I wa thinking of before the page went up was what would happen if Sircea simply magically killed the sacrifices and opened the portal.

      • syllibub

That might be Plan B — or Plan Whatever Letter They’re On Now.

        • davefragments

Well, we know it is atlas Plan 2 because the Grey Workings was Plan 1.
Is it too much to hope that it is Plan 9?

          • syllibub

While it’s definitely possible, I’m still not sold on the idea that Sircea orchestrated the Grey Working — it could have been an attempt to kill her that backfired horribly.

          • davefragments

I would guess that the reason Spooky didn’t go crazy with the rest of the magicians was that instead he was transported into the Laampros’ dimension. SIrcea somehow avoided or survived that disaster. The only thing I can see wrong with that was it seemed that the Grey Workings happened years before that. The timeline has troubles but the explanation fits.

          • I have my long time (and growing) theory of why Spooky escaped going magic bonkers after he returned, and I’m patiently waiting to see if it might fit into the story at some point.. or if it just was a possible idea 🙂
Haven’t spoken much about it, since it involves a mix of info from pages + info that I think only has been given on Patreon so far.

          • timemonkey

Maybe it’s because he learned magic in hell, outside the influence over whatever’s messign with the other magic users?

          • Good suggestion. I think hell-time got something to do with it, yes, but maybe not fully in the same way.

          • Saxon_Brenton

Yes. From memory the third Spooky text story specifies that almost every magic user in the past 40 years has gone crazy. I’m tentatively thinking that even though Spooky wasn’t off-dimensional when the Grey Working happened, that something happened to him while in Laampros’ dimension that gave him a bit of immunity.

(Unless, of course, Spooky was taken more than 40 years ago, was indeed off-dimensional when the Grey Working happened, and simply didn’t age because of screwy inter-dimensional time flow or some other handwavium. Actually, that might explain why he didn’t return to his family after he got back and instead set up a private investigation business on his own: his family are long gone.)

          • davefragments

That type of timeline messes with my mind too much. After all, Kyle and Duncan were only gone minutes and nothing like that happened.

          • Klaus

Here are some diagrams that explain that kind of timeline:
            https://xkcd.com/657/

          • Klaus

He does not remember his family. Did they have those number candles 40 years ago?

          • davefragments

Yes. I have pictures from that time that show those type of candles.

          • timemonkey

I’ve been thinking and I wonder if maybe Spooky’s trip to hell was actually supposed to bring demons forth. Like that was an attempt by Sircea to increase her power but it didn’t work right.

          • davefragments

I first thought that Spooky was sacrificed to the other dimension and not supposed to survive.
Now, I’m trying to get my head around him falling into something from the Grey Working.
Perhaps the weakening of the walls opens portals at odd points between he dimensions and Spooky wandered through one into Lammpros’ dimension and then somehow figured out how to get out.
I’m just not sure about any of that.

          • timemonkey

Maybe both incidents are related. I’ve been playing with a theory that Sircea is behind all of it. What if this whole thing is a long range plot by her? The Grey Workings, the weakening of the walls (maybe she’s the one weakening the walls to begin with?), driving the other magic users insane, Spooky’s trip to Hell, all of it.

          • davefragments

            Intersting idea.
I have to think on it when I’m not as sleepy as right now.

          • timemonkey

I mean, for all we know she’s a demon herself, or allied with them.

          • Klaus

Birthdays have power. Maybe that portal works only your birthday.

          • davefragments

            That’s a scary thought.

          • Klaus

Spooky learned magic in Hell. The after glow of the Grey Working may affect only the earth.

    • Duncan: There goes my work again *drops hell-door one more time*

  • Doki would like to point out how Kick Ass Kyle and Amanda are in the first panel.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      They so are!

  • Watch your back, Kyle!

  • LOL.. The minions fear those bottles (I would too). Will any of them risk ending up like Minion Shane.. or maybe worse. Fear the Fluke 😉

And for Tsu-Tsu, I’m happy to see the arm-shields doing exactly what I hoped they’d be used for, and look at those kick-ass moves from Amanda and Kyle!
I just hope someone got Kyle’s back in that last panel. There’s a minion with a sharpy going for a bullseye on his back.

    • Klaus

He seems about to get a boot to the face.

  • Mir

Is Kyle jumping over the henchmen to get to the sacrafices/or to grab Mitch and Spooky?

Seriously though the last panel could totally lead up to an Emperor’s New Groove scene lol.

    • Klaus

      To get to the dampener.

      • Mir

        Ah, that’d be smart.

  • Seriously, Fluke is cracking me up. ‘I got a bottle, and I ain’t afraid to use it’.

…’it might be another snake, or it may even make you grow some hair again really fast’ *minions flee*

    • davefragments

      terminal flatulence…

      wink,wink

    • Crackferret

      I kinda want spiders.

  • D. G.

Kinda bad luck for fluke to have so many opponents.

  • D. G.

I hope that magic potion is a good one.

    • timemonkey

Snakes for everyone! Even Snake guy!

      • Cman65

Like Snake Guy doesn’t have enough problems

        • davefragments

          It could be worse.

          • timemonkey

What if the new batch of snakes don’t get along with the originals? Demon snake fight!

          • davefragments

            That’s good.

          • Klaus

            It could be raining.

          • Cman65

            raining snakes??????????

  • SofiaT

    Are Duncan and Sircea asleep?
Or just standing there with their jaws hanging open, watching the action unfold?

I can understand the surprise but MOVE YOUR VILLAINOUS ASSES*!

(*so they can be kicked thoroughly.)

    • I’m wondering if the platform blew up, if it blasted them back and set back their response.

      • Connor

Or they’re holding back because Sircea has a trick up her sleeve which isn’t quite ready to be used yet. It would strike me as slightly out-of-character for Sircea to have allowed them to live without any added security that the YP are unaware of.

  • Jeldenil

Are they still recharging their powers?

    • timemonkey

      Power dampener is still active.,

        • SofiaT

He was. So maybe the dampener got damaged by the blast?

          • timemonkey

The dampener doesn’t work on magic.

        • Samurai Jack

The dampener doesn’t seem to affect magic. It’s why the Platinum Priestess can use her powers without being shielded like Duncan.

Things are going really badly. They need to deactivate that dampener before Duncan notices what is happening. Poweless they have no chance aginst his super speed. Of course Fluke is not powerless after all.

    • bronakopdin

do you actually think he missed the explosion? x’D
I bet he already knows what is happening… we just don’t know yet what he’s doing…

      • Klaus

No I don’t, and I don’t understand why has not killed them all yet. Unless Fluke’s power has caused some sort of delay,

        • bronakopdin

          that’s probably it xD

        • timemonkey

He doesn’t want to kill them all.

  • bronakopdin

sooo good oldschool bar fist fighting… including magic bottles instead of beer bottles x’D

Poor Paul but it seems those minions are listening to his warnings xD
    let’s see…
Wondering whether Spooky and Mitch are left alone? It would be a really good thing but I fear that is quite utopistic >_>’

And how will Duncan and Sircea react? Can’t wait for Saturday ^^

    • Spooky and Mitch are down and not posing any immediate threat, so the minions are probably going for the people who are currently running around throwing punches. Of course, once they start thinking rather than automatically dealing with the immediate and obvious threat, someone may think to make sure the superheroes who are down *stay* down.

      • bronakopdin

on the other hand they should also know about Spooky’s healing power and might want to knock him out for good so they won’t need to fight them all several times… it was just me being anxious anyway x’D

  • Love this page – it’s so beautifully structured, leading to that last panel focusing on Fluke. Nice thing about the flasks – the minions don’t know what they’ll do. Even if the minions are willing to sacrifice their lives for Her Platinumness, triggering the flasks might be a very bad strategic move.

  • Shiny Gwilly

i’m glad to see the team can handle themselves enough in a good round of good old fashioned ass kicking, good call on that
don’t get too cocky, fluke, i hope your good luck is still going on
i imagine in the background PP is just staring at Anni with the “i told you so” look, and Anni is just “OK, LOOK”

  • Columbine

Perhaps I can help them out by giving the mooks my flu through the screen….

  • bronakopdin

I spotted a minor consistency error, Alex 🙂
in panel 3 the colours of the viles in Paul’s hand changed! Before and after he always has the red one in his left and the yellow one in his right hand (since picking them up on last page) but in penel three it’s the other way around, though in panel 5 it is correct again 🙂
you might wanna correct this for the print!
(Hope I’m helpful and not sounding smartass x’D)

    • Earl Patterson

Or… Paul is having juggle those bottle during battle

      • bronakopdin

his posture suggests otherwise though x’D

    • timemonkey

Maybe the vials are changing colours?

      • I just think it’s a small inconsistency. It will be fixed.

      • Klaus

        It’s maaaaagic!

  • Michael

Woo, go team! Kyle’s clearly letting the ‘superhero’ thing go to his head, he’s got the jumping superman punch going and everything.

  • Nate

The only golden potion I can think of is from Harry Potter…

“Felix Felicis”, the Luck Potion. 🙂

    • bronakopdin

the luck of the lucky one, how very fitting xD

      • What ever it is, he IS the unlucky one who got up against four of them on his own, so he can use what ever is in the bottles. Let’s just hope it’s something good xD

  • Pikinanou

    Woohoo! Go team!
by the way, it’s the first time I notice the minions are all shaved XD

  • I can imagine Duncan in the background going: ‘Sircea! Will you get this thing grounded to the earth again *faster*, or I’m going to drop it’.

Having to hold the circle up while Sircea magically repairs it, is slowing him down. Either that, or they/she is letting the mininions bear the brunt of the new attack while they finish getting the door back up.

  • TwilightDreamer

Ooooh! Fluke with a couple of mystery potions……yeah, I’d be backing off pretty far! XD!!

  • tyler max

is it just me, or do the bottles mysteriously switch hands twice in this page…???

    • Not just you. Minor oopsie.

      • It is the combination of Spooky’s magic and Fluke’s luck. Such a combination allows the bottles to switch places to confuse and induce fear in the enemy increasing the chances of success.

    • bronakopdin

no and I wrote about it before to notify Alex ^^

    • Thanks, y’all. Fixed now. 🙂

  • David Boccabella

Why does the song “Love Potion No. 9” pop into my head *Laughs*

  • Cman65

Red meets yellow kill a fellow

  • Aitsuki

Better listen to Fluke, lackeys…. a man with all the luck in the world on his side holding some unknown magic vials?? Y’all gonna get eaten by a demon or something…

    • We can just hope it hasn’t already turned into a case of him being unlucky. That this load of luck ran out with machine going boom. Him against 4 isn’t exactly being lucky.

      • Unless it is the four least competent at fighting, or the four most banged up from round 1?

        • strangeangel24601

Or the bad luck from going up against four recharges him and places the odds back in his favor?

  • Jeff Baker

    “Avengers assem…oops!” 🙂

    • Klaus

      Protectors dissemble!

  • KingOfNymphs

Kyle in panel 1 to in panel 4. What happened? Looks like him being in the air was a wasted movement. Also, Amanda got closer without dealing with the guy behind Kyle?

  • I think it is important to note how effective the team is without powers. If there is a message it is this: power doesn’t make a hero.

    • timemonkey

Makes sense though, considering most of them are on the team because their powers were considered unreliable or too dangerous.

  • Derkins

Amanda and Kyle are kicking serious tail!

  • davefragments

Took me ten minutes this morning to figure out the change.
    Nice work.

    • YG_Frenchie

      What changed?

      • davefragments

Left to right hands and red to yellow bottles.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Before I head off for Saturday RPGing, I will throw out this question as a talking-around-the-campfire topic.

The minions seem to all have shaved heads. (Or maybe they’ve been rendered bald by the Priestess as a sign of devotion to her cult). So: what hair do you think Shane the snake minion has when he’s not sporting the minion look? Black and straight? Red and curly? Blond afro with muttonchops? Let’s see if we can add another detail to his fanon biography.

Me, I will start out weird. It used to be brown, but these days it’s bright fluro green. See, there was an nuclear bio-waste accident at the hospital where he used to work, and… Well, let’s just say it’s a bit of a relief to be working in a group where a full head shave is mandatory dress code.

  • davefragments

I’m early tonight so I put on a short movie “Eight Legged Freaks.”
You know a movie about giant spiders isn’t serious when the soundtrack is “Itsy Bitsy Spider.”

    • You mean like Age of Ultron with it’s Pinocchio theme?

      • davefragments

That’s not the same thing. This movie is laughably ridiculous. Ultron considered himself was Tony Stark’s puppet when he really was Tony Stark’s ultimate paranoia and nightmarish vision of the world. In Eight Legged Freaks, the town is populated by Mary Sue’s and other TSTL characters.

        • Isn’t that the movie with David Arquette?

          • davefragments

            Yes.

          • I had this memory of him yelling about eight legged freaks in the trailer

          • davefragments

It’s one of those stunning performances.

            (So crappy I was stunned)

          • Ha! I always fear that movies like that might kill off my precious few brain cells. 😀

      • davefragments

And the hero outruns the mine explosion that kills the spiders. . . BTW — I saw a demonstration both methane and dust explosions at what was then the Bureau of Mines experimental mine in Pittsburgh. There is no way to outrun one of those explosion. The one explosion launched a mine car straight out of the mine portal and 200 feet into the opposite hillside. I was amazed at the sheer power of the blast.

        • There is that one blast in The Force Awakens and I was pretty sure that they should’t be able to escape it

          • davefragments

            I haven’t watch that yet.
Comcast want $21 to buy it, no rental yet.

          • Oops. Well there is an explosion 🙂

          • davefragments

            No problem.

    • Considering the type of movie, it’s not awfully bad 🙂

Now, Snow Sharks (also called Avelanche Sharks) on the other hand. Should you ever come across it. Even if being for free, it’s a waste of time. A tv-channel here had a ‘horror month’ where they sent some of these B- to F quality movies, and I took on the task of sitting through them. Snow Sharks is one of the worst things I have ever watched. Actually, it might be THE worst! I mean in how rediculessly bad/stupid the movie is xD

(D-War was also pretty bad, but it tried and came out a little better. A movie with a giant crocodile -can’t remember title- wasn’t too bad at all)

      • davefragments

I can see the wires moving the fake fins in SNOW SHARKS.

        • Oh, that’s another movie. I edited my post, because the one I talk about is also called Avalanche Sharks. Probably because that other movie is also called Snow Sharks, so there happens to be TWO horrible movies with same name and theme of movie o.O
          Both have equally bad ratings.

          • davefragments

I think most shark movies are abysmal.
            JAWS was the best.

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Sharknado?

        • That one is quality compared to Snow/Avalanche Sharks. At least it was hilariously bad, not just bad.

    • Chris Dangerfield

      NO SPIDERS!!!! JUST NO!!!!

  • Hiya folks, and good morning from here 🙂

    • Morning Ms. Wolf

    • davefragments

      greetings

    • Morning Danish!

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Morning Lady Danish.

  • davefragments

    I put SPACEBALLS on.

    • A much better class of movie.

      • davefragments

30 seconds into it and I was giggling.

        • OMG I can’t remember his name. Mel… WTF? Oh wait! Mel Brooks knows how to make a comedy.

          • davefragments

Mel Brooks told George Lucas that he was going to make a satire of STAR WARS and Lucas encouraged him to have at it.

          • I thought there might be rumors of a second Space Balls. That or I’m crazy

          • davefragments

            I haven’t heard anything.
I miss Mel Brooks comedies. The last one I remember was the musical of THE PRODUCERS.

          • I knew one of the horses, well sorta knew, from Robin Hood: Men in Tights

          • davefragments

            I’m afraid to ask.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            No Fear. DFrag. No fears!

          • Well I guess he would be considered a pony. But he was the one Maid Marianne’s maid rode. My old trainer was friends with the lady who owned him. She brought him to the barn to breed one of the mares.

          • davefragments

            Good show!

          • Chris Dangerfield

Tights are always good on men with the body to sport them (well I suppose that true for women also). 🙂

          • Chris Dangerfield

PRODUCERS — one of the best films EVAH!

          • davefragments

Just the thoughts of Dick Shawn sends me into laughter.

          • Chris Dangerfield

He is aging. Those comedies aren’t easy.

          • davefragments

I think he worked out his Hitler obsession.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Indeed.

          • Chris Dangerfield

Well I won’t touch the “crazy” issue, but two SB films. Wow……….. 😀

          • Chris Dangerfield

He can’t go crazier than Legos or even his own #3-5…. LOL

          • Chris Dangerfield

            Blazing Saddles still a classic……….

          • Yup yup!

  • davefragments

    oooh demons

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Ohhhh ohhhh where?

  • davefragments
