The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter 4—Page 11

362 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter 4—Page 11

So… do you?

Kickstarter rewards have started shipping to the original backers, but there is still time to join in the big shipping push and pre-order a copy of The Young Protectors Volume One and other Kickstarter rewards. Watch this video for more information about that. I’ll be receiving the 11″ x 14″ prints from the printer in April—so there’s still lots of time to save up for those if you’d like one. But I now have everything else, and I’ll be shipping rewards that don’t include prints over the next couple months, so if you just want a book, now would be a great time to pre-order. 🙂

Last week, I let this month’s Patreon backers know that they were getting a very special treat — a sexy, safe-for-work romantic pin-up of the Young Protectors’ leader herself!

Commander SFW Sexy Pin-Up

But that’s not all February backers are getting! When the Height Chart was unlocked, there was much celebration – but there were also those who said full-frontal nudity was all well and good, but what would the male heroes of The Young Protectors team look like from behind? Thus, the Shower Scene pin-up was born!

AMW_Comics_TYP-ETE-V1-KS-Shower-Scene_400px

Cleanliness is definitely a virtue.

Of course, the full image shows a whole lot more… 😉

$5+ Patrons for February will get to see the full version of both these pin-ups once their pledges clear after the first week of March. $10+ Patrons will get sent a high-res version of that with over double the resolution!

There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron (you can see them all here along with an explanation of what the heck Patreon is), and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron.

So! Now Commander is completely caught up on The Annihilator’s master plan. What will her reaction be? Will she be able to offer him a better way? And if she does, will he take it?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Well? I’m waiting.

  • davefragments

    ExSec is on the hot seat.

    • Chris Dangerfield

      In the television series the head of ExSec is being played by Amanda’s mother, who clearly has bigger ovaries than the President and I doubt that she’s on any hot seat.

      (well I like the thought anyway)

  • Better late than never, Mr. Duncanator, but maybe you could have asked for a second opinion sooner?

  • Saxon_Brenton

    I am *so* wanting Commander to calmly say, “Yes, Spooky does.” (And it would be even better if it were true, but the look on Annihilator’s face would be worth it even if she were trolling him.)

    • Considering how he looks seeing that Amanda isn’t surprised…

    • Tyler Griffin

      Amanda:
      “Oh, well, *YEAH*. I mean what is the POINT of having a central agency regulating supers if it can’t pool it’s resources to anticipate and deal with universe altering events. You’d be surprised what technology can deal with these days. Those two experimental dampeners? *Pshhhhhhhh* there is a matrix engine in a secret location in this very nation designed specifically to do that. Research began on the problem the DAY we interviewed Spooky. Only problem is that it requires a magic user to power it, kinda like a battery, but they have to be sane. We’ve been stalling sacrificing Spooky to it, because, honestly we need him to deal with other insane wielders. It occurs to me, however, that Sircea being that much older and knowledgeable, she could serve even better as the power source. But then, she knows that already, we have evidence that she had spies in department that developed and built it. Of course, I could be lying my ruby red coat off, but what if I’m not?”

  • Cman65

    Like Big Red would not know what you have planed Annie

    • That mark on his arm is evidently a spying device!

  • syllibub

    That was really succinct, Duncan! I wonder if there’s a way to avoid bringing demons to earth that won’t also get Duncan killed for breaking his contract with Laampros. There’s a big “redemption through death” flag on him, but I don’t want him to die, especially not so horribly.

    Also, why do I get the vibe that Sircea is going to end up alive but on the other side of the hell-earth barrier when the heroes save the day?

    • I don’t think Duncan will pay by dying, more likely by slaving for Laampros!

      • syllibub

        Yikes. That might be worse!

        • ^^

        • Jaq

          But it would be infinitely more salacious

        • Chris Dangerfield

          WHEEEEEEEEE! Fun fun fun!

      • timemonkey

        Why not both? First horrible death then eternal enslavement to a demon lord!

        • ƪ(ˆ▽ˆ)ʃ

        • Klaus

          But is Hell the abode of the dead in this cosmology?

          • timemonkey

            Who knows, I just doubt the contract ends with the death of the flesh.

          • Tyler Griffin

            A soul sold is the property of the buyer, and would thus (I assume) be subject to storage wherever the owners deems fit. (Wait, not THAT opens some possibilities for torment. “I shall store you inside the condom that broke the night your mother became pregnant with you… for now *demonic laughter*”)

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Now that is thinking outside the box! PROMOTION!

      • Klaus

        “I will destroy you,” is what Laampros said.

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Oh piffle. If I had a dime for every time an ex-boyfriend said that to me.

          • Tyler Griffin

            Usually in relation to certain claims about their… uh… “stature”? You know, the ones that always seem to be double or triple the real life?

          • Chris Dangerfield

            ‘zactly…

      • Chris Dangerfield

        Yayyyyy… Duncan/Laampros make-up sex!!!

    • Tyler Griffin

      The deal is to open the gate and Bring Laampros across. Nothing was stated about loyalties after that. The devil is in the details, literally in this case.

      • I think there are points in the contract previuosly discussed detailling what continents belong to whom and whatnot…

        • Tyler Griffin

          Meh, wars happen. Alliances decay. It’s the *nature* of politics. A minor boarder dispute, a few accusations of one side or the other poaching across the lines… a few mobs (totally NOT traceable directly back to either set of leaders, AT ALL) enacting revenge for those poaching’s. An assassination or two of local leadership, suddenly the entire region is destabilized the party contractually obligated to rule it no longer wields true authority.. And suddenly we have a irreconcilable breach of contract due to unforeseen circumstances and all bets are off.
          *demonic grin, glowing eyes*
          Just… the *NATURE* of politics… you understand.

          • Columbine

            That is waaaaay to close to a history of the English-Scottish border

          • Chris Dangerfield

            No they’re the demons. NO, THEY’RE the demons. NO… (etc..)

          • Columbine

            (May be the sheep are the demons? I’ve always suspected them-)

          • Chris Dangerfield

            You and Terry Pratchett know too much! 😀

          • Columbine

            Lol we have both been to Wales!

          • Chris Dangerfield

            But those “orbs” could be weapons of mass destruction!!! I’m just sayin’. 🙂

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Okay, let’s just put the Sircea “on the other side” aside (ummmm) for the moment. Don’t you worry your pretty syllibub head about her leaving you for a few thousand years. Like THAT is ever going to happen. NOT.

      And the “redemption through death” thing? You know Sircea can just resurrect Zombie-Duncan for the sequel and sure he’ll be stinky, but she’s tough and all will be well.

      Stay positive kid. It’s only the end of the world.

      • timemonkey

        He can die all he wants, won’t make him redeemed.

        • Chris Dangerfield

          Point!!!!!

  • That wasn’t fair of you Com, by inviting Duncan to explain himself, you forced it on your helpless neighboor!

  • Falconfly

    Oh, he’s got you there you little bitches. Moral ambiguity wins again

  • davefragments

    Aren’t the big wigs and ExSec supposed to be huddling with the aliens over the problem of the dimensional walls weakening?
    I seem to remember that.

    • Klaus

      The aliens and the walls don’t mix very well. I do not find it easy to fit them both into the same cosmology. If the walls break down, Earth will go back to being just another circle of Hell. That must mean that before the walls were build, Earth was part of Hell. But now the Earth is an infinitisimal speck in a huge universe. Was this universe dragged out of Hell with the Earth? Or did the Earth pop into a preexisting universe? Could demons, or others, cross the Walls of Blood and Pain at the homeworld of the aliens? Whjat is a circle of Hell anyway?

      • davefragments

        I’m not sure what to say as a reader.
        As a scientist, I understand the implications of multiple dimensions like this. As a reader (and a writer, too) I don’t follow those rules and just let the writer create as he or she goes along.
        As long as it all hangs together logically and doesn’t sound ignorantly and impossibly illogical, I accept it.

        We were discussing movies last night and I must say that the HANGOVER series of movies revolt me as illogical and ignorant. That type of fiction I won’t accept. But all this Sci Fi nonsense, as long as it entertains, I let myself have fun.

    • Chris Dangerfield

      Aren’t some dimensions cross-colliding? (well honestly, aren’t they always, but…)

      • davefragments

        I’m not scientifically sure but I have received assurances that certain dimensions are cross-dressing and trying to become that “other” dimension. I think it is called DIID — Dimension Integrity Identity Disorder.

        • Chris Dangerfield

          I’m appalled and disgusted and as soon as I get my alien drag uniform off (don’t judge me), I’ll be back to express more outrage! 😀

          • davefragments

            It’s not easy being green.

          • Chris Dangerfield

            If you can sing like Kermit, I’ll be yours forever………………

          • Love led us here, Right back to where we belong. We followed the star and here we are Now heaven seems so near!
            ~~~~~~~~~~~~
            Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices?
            I’ve heard them calling my name
  • So Duncan,Sircea and you had years to plot your scheme (or scheme your plot if you’d rather) and you expect her to find an alternative in 5 sec with half her team stll unconscious? You aren’t playing a fair game here… But, what’s new?
    • timemonkey
      It seems he’s only recently started doubting Sircea and her motives.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        “Ahhhhh… Hastings… the leetle gray cells! Non?”
        – Hercule Poirot
    • Michael
      Years and years to come up with ideas to prevent Hell from spilling over into Earth resulting in the deaths and torture of billions of people, and the best idea they could come up with was to let that happen anyway, and then rebuild the walls while the demons are all distracted by their human playthings?
      Talk about closing the gate after the horse has bolted. Or throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
      I agree with others that Sircea has ulterior motive(s), she’s playing a long game that might not come to fruition for another few thousand years, time that she (and now Duncan) alone have the luxury of affording.
      Maybe she plans to let the human population be decimated or worse, and then play the role of the gallant, shining leader of the Resistance, who throws the demons back into hell and creates a new golden age of humanity with the world’s surviving population worshipping and bowing to her above all others, and their children’s children revering her as an actual living Goddess.
      • Tyler Griffin
        “10 thousand years of planning, and the best you could come up with was another Sylex blast? A second Ice Age, and half the globe scoured of all life?” Hooray for M:tG references!
      • Klaus
        They are not letting in all the demons, just Laampros’ forces. All we know about their number is that they are considerable. And they are not going to kill a lot of people. As PP puts it, they are “hardly bestial”. It is going to be very unpleasant for people in the demon controlled areas, but not nearly as bad as if the walls has come down.
        • Chris Dangerfield
          And we ALL know that when it comes to the “bestial” less is definitely more! I mean she’s hardly a demon and… oh… Never mind.
  • Have a nice night/day everyone!
    ╰(⌒▽⌒)
  • timemonkey
    I like where this is going!
    And I like that Shower Scene pin-up reward even more.
  • timemonkey
    Also I want to say I really like Kyle’s expressions in the two panels he’s visible.
  • Mir
    “she knows how to repair them” bullshit. Even if she does, what makes you so sure she wants them repaired, Duncan? I think she has ulterior motives here that you are not realizing. And what you’re asking them in the last panel probably should’ve been the first thing to ask before ya’know…doing all this.
    • Tyler Griffin
      I’ve always wondered… “Priestess of WHAT?” Maybe Sircea just likes alliteration, but typically a Priestess should be a representative of some higher (or at least Greater) power or authority. Just saying.
      • Saxon_Brenton
        Dunno. Might be the priestess of some obscure or now defunct religion. On the other hand, this is a superhero class universe and there’s plenty of precedent for people with names like ‘Captain [fill-in-the-blank]’ and ‘Doctor [insert-cool-sounding-noun-here]’. So maybe you’re right and she just likes the alliteration.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        Bugger… I thought being the “High Priest of Chris” was working out pretty good, but you’re saying that’s a no-go? Damn, there goes my tax exempt status at the Church of Chris.
      • stickfigurefairytales
        Priestess of herself, I’m guessing.
      • syllibub
        She prays to herself, for herself.
    • Klaus
      Would she really like to live in Hell? I find it quite likely that she is willing to excert herfelf to avoid this. But once the walls are mended, does she really want the demons banished? Their presence will give her power. Wouldn’t it be tempting to keep them around for just a few years more? Just until she has handled a few other things that need fixing.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        There may be no deodorant in hell. She has her standards.
    • Columbine
      Personally I suspect she’d do it to make her own life easier and more comfortable. I suspect she’d dislike the mess Hell on Earth would cause.
    • I’m skeptical that she was involved in building them in the first place. That doesn’t sound like something she would have been interested in devoting a lot of time and a whole lot of energy into. Especially if she really was a “goddess” at the time – what does she care what demons do to the mortals?
      • Chris Dangerfield
        point.
      • Tyler Griffin
        She claims to have been a champion of mankind at the time. I mean, her goddess complex had to grow from SOMETHING. I can see it.
      • timemonkey
        Self interest can be a wonderful motivator. Get rid of the demons, get rid of most of the really big competition. We’ve seen her live for thousands of years among mortals, would that have happened if the world had been flooded with demons?
        And if walls were going to be built anyway she might as well get in on it and make sure the project keeps things in her favor. If there’s going to be limits make sure you understand them and have a say in where and what they limit.
        • Yes, and I am sure that sacrificing children had absolutely nothing to do with weakening the veil.
          • timemonkey
            As I recall, the event that weakened the walls also robber HER of a considerable amount of power.
          • We do not know that. And I don’t recall anyone saying that there was a single event.
            But Sircea was more than willing to use children as sacrifices, which in the present circumstances is the same thing she is doing to bring the wall down completely.
          • timemonkey
            We do know that it was said outright. There was some kind of ritual performed that went wrong and damaged magic. This drove all magic users, save for Spooky and Sircea, insane and damaged the walls between dimensions and apparently robbed Sircea of at least her immortality.
  • I can’t decide which panel I like best. They’re all so expressive. In that last panel I can just see Duncan lowering his voice and speaking quickly not wanting Sircea to know just what he’s asking. In the second panle Amanda is so calm and steady. I can hear Kyle inner swearing and thinking: wait, what? In the third panel Duncan seems surprised by Amanda’s knowing about the weakened walls.
    And in the first panel I like that Duncan is explaining without acting like anyone is stupid.
    Great page , Alex, Adam and Vero! It’s just building up so deliciously!
    • Tyler Griffin
      It’s really the first time we have seen Duncan explain himself in a way that wasn’t A) talking down to the listener like a very slow child, or b) resentfully defensive.
      • He’s really had some second thoughts on all his life choices up until now. Edit: At least it seems like maybe possibly.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        Point!
      • stickfigurefairytales
        “Oh, now I’m the jerk?!”
    • Chris Dangerfield
      I agree with everything you said, as long as we’re clear that (except for the gay part) Duncan is a stinky, naughty, bad, rotten, no good, selfish man and Amanda shouldn’t believe a word he says…
      (that part)
      • Again. 😛
        • Chris Dangerfield
          Indeed… it can’t be stated enough! 😀
  • TwilightDreamer
    I know he’s likely just doubtful, but is it too much too hope HE’S being hopeful she might say yes?
  • Shiny Gwilly
    hmmmm…..
    there’s honestly not a lot i can add here with this page, dkfgjdkj
    i’m curious on Amanda’s answer, and whether or not it’ll be honest….
    i’m also hoping that Kyle stays quiet while they’re talking, his face is saying “what the fuck” though quite nicely
    i’m sure PP wouldn’t like demons running around everywhere forever, she has some other plan if she’s not sending them back, it’s very possible…but can she really control them all? that’s the other question
    • timemonkey
      There’s always the chance that having a load of demons around permanently suits her just fine. If it boosts her power and she gets to rule a portion of the world then why not let things be?
      • Shiny Gwilly
        true, if they don’t bother her or get in her way, i can see her being fine with them around for a few years
        i’m just curious on how powerful she is vs. the demons combining to overpower her
    • Chris Dangerfield
      That’s so true about Kyle. You know that old saying about “Your lips are saying … but your eyes are saying …” Well in this case, you’re quite right Kyle’s EVERYTHING is saying WTF???? Quite in sync. Love it.
  • D. G.
    Hmmm.
    • Chris Dangerfield
      I’ll see your “Hmmm.” and raise you an, “Oh MY!”
      • Tyler Griffin
        Deal me in for a “Well, well, well…”
  • Now would be a good moment for Spooky to stop playing possum.
    Is it possible that the dampener doesn’t have any effect on magic?
    • Klaus
      Almost certain. PP would have insisted on wearing the antidamoener if it was not so. But Spooky is the one who is most hurt.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        D’awwwww come one. He’s gotta have an unbroken bottle of “fix-it anti-demonizer goo” somewhere in that cool over-coat of his? Right?
    • Saxon_Brenton
      It seems possible that the dampener doesn’t affect magic. When Annihilator activated it and everybody’s powers shut down, the Priestess seemed to have some sort of magical glow still going on the next page, and she certainly didn’t have anything that looked like the red force field glow that Annihilator is using to protect himself.
      However, if Spooky’s powers aren’t blocked, then that would beg the question of why Team Silver would leave him to simply wake up and start causing havoc with his abilities all over agin. There are a number of possibilities that I can think of – the Priestess cast a sleep sleep spell on Spooky and he won’t be waking up until she lets him, or he needs to make gestures to work his magic and the anti-grav prison traps impedes his movements too much to let him operate properly. However, these are all rationalisations without evidence.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        “However, these are all rationalisations without evidence.
        The best kind!
  • Columbine
    It sounds almost a bit like ‘if the Earth’s magnetic poles flip we’d all die. Do you have a solution to that government-personage!’
  • David Welbourn
    I suspect Amanda’s answer will be “No, but why can’t Sircea repair the walls from the other side of the walls where there’s already a lot of demons to get power from?”
    • Tyler Griffin
      Anakin- I mean- Annihilator replies: “Because, my dear, that would involve her getting trapped on the other side when she’s done. We’re not making noble sacrifices here. That’s what Heroes do, we’re not heroes, we’re saving the world because we want to LIVE in it.”
      • David Welbourn
        Hmph. That may well be his answer, but there’s gotta be doors in that wall, otherwise neither Spooky nor Kyle would’ve been able to cross to Hell and back otherwise.
        • Klaus
          The walls are now so weak that even 14 year old Spooky could get out. But when they are repaired, things may be different.
          • Chris Dangerfield
            Well, that and Sircea hasn’t had a birthday in 6,000 years. I mean that would make a person cranky AND bitter… let alone unable to do the bday cross-over thing.
        • Tyler Griffin
          there are holes now, because the walls are supposedly on the brink of collapse. I would assume there would be Gates in the best of times though, if there are gate guarding demons, but still… Not the route to salvation *I* would choose.
  • Jeldenil
    Boooob the builder, can we fix it?
    • Tyler Griffin
      Only if we sacrifice half the world to the sex starved pervy demons!
      • Chris Dangerfield
        Great. So where do I need to be for this party?
        • D. G.
          Lol
    • Michael
      When the difference between bob and boob is an o, adding extra os doesn’t eliminate the ambiguity.
      • Jeldenil
        I honestly didn’t think of that. English isn’t my first language.
        • Chris Dangerfield
          Hey, it works perfectly either way. LOL.
    • timemonkey
      Nope, it’s fucked! ^_^
  • Saxon_Brenton
    The details in Annihilator’s explanation in panel 1 interest me, but I was at work when the page updated and didn’t have the opportunity to go back and re-read the conversation between the Priestess and Annihilator back at the end of chapter 3. Now that I’ve done so I see that it matches up pretty well. Notwithstanding the perennial questions of how much of the story that Annihilator has received from the Priestess is actually true, the explanation as he tells it has most of the same details: the dimensional wall collapse, the Priestess being alive when the walls were first built, and the plan to rebuild them. However, I do notice that Annihilator’s left out the bit about needing the four or five years to rebuilt (chap.3 p.54, pan.2)
    All that said, the last bit of his speech, the bit about needing to bring a lot of demons to earth for power, seems new. I may have missed something during my re-read, but I was under the impression that she would be getting all the power she needed straight from Laampros. Maybe she’ll need more, and merely having magical energy seeping from one dimensional into another won’t be enough? Is it possible that the Priestess wants lots of demons on Earth so that she can surrepticiously capture a number of them one by one, then do hOrRiblE tHinGs to them in order to drain them of their energies? What do the rest of you think?
    • Klaus
      She does not say in so many words that that the precense of demons on Earth will give her power, but I always understood page 51 panel 2 that way. Laampros providing her with power was not one of terms of the deal,
      • Chris Dangerfield
        What? There were no footnotes on the deal. Well that seems a bit vague.
      • Tyler Griffin
        I took it to mean that there was more ambient magical energy in Hell than on Earth, and that Earth did not have enough ME available for the work at hand, thus the walls needed to be dropped to access the higher level of available ME in Hell. I never considered the demons themselves as part of the wall rebuilding equation, although I see no barrier to that being the case. Perhaps, demonic sacrifices can be used to release ME for collection and usage much the way human sacrifices can? Hmmm……
        • Klaus
          The whole point of their plan is that the walls will not come down. So she must expect the presence of many demons on Earth to raise the ambient magic energy level considerably.
  • Toli Bera
    Kinda late to be asking that Anni. :/ you think you could have maybe considered shopping your plan around saaaay 4-5 months/years ago? it’s not like going to the bank, it should be kinda up there on the To-Do list. at least slot 3 (hairdresser, groceries, save world, rob bank, deposit stolen money in other bank, lunch with PP, Pilates)
  • Duncan. Grasping at straws now that time is up, and that last desperation got mixed with his conscience kicking it into high mode. Has his own little good voice on his right shoulder been taking over by a little Kyle standing there instead? His own clearly did a poor job for a long time xD
    I know I can some times be in the master class of procrastination, but there’s just some areas where you do NOT wait until last moment to seek any possible solution and/or help. Saving the world is pretty much on top of that list.
    Pride and arrogance had him forgetting that.
    Forgetting it until reality set in. He finally had to do the monstrous thing that was planned, find that in reality it bothered him a LOT… and he actually got to meet a king of hell. Duncan was taken down a few notches during that short meeting, both by Laampros but also by Kyle.
    The arrogant and self-sure Duncan that showed up in hell was not the same guy that left. He got to meet a higher power, get hurt and, I guess, get scared. Facing Kyle afterwards was another chop off that self-centered poll of pride he had stuffed up his ass.
    Oh, how the mighty (pride) has fallen. Question now is, if it’s too little too late (for who and for what)?
  • bronakopdin
    ok so now we know finally!
    though I’m in with Amanda… is it even possible to get rid of them all again?
    “it won’t be easy” sounds like an understatement Duncan ^^’
    Though I agree withhim that Amanda doesn’t look the least bit surprised, this could either be because of what he said, that she knew about the problem or it’s just her superior ability to keep face like a pro ^^
    I wonder what she’ll answer and whether they actually knew and had plans on their own!
    but even if, is it possible at al to stop this current ritual in the remaining time?
    and what happens if not?
    Will Spooky see his hell-friend at least?
    so many questions…
  • I’ve long had a destinct feelinng that PP has tried to recruit Spooky before, knowing he’s been in a hell dimension, but that she was turned down, because Spooky didn’t want to join her little possy of magical crazy people. We know Spooky has told things about PP to Kyle. Not good things.
    Spooky (and Amanda) has known about the weakening of the walls, but how much have he/they known about PP’s intentions/plans? I think Spooky has known that PP knew about the dimension walls, just as himself, but not how much she was up to. At least not anyway of how she intended to do it. That’s what I prefer to believe for now, until there may be one of those Alex twists that could throw this towards another theory/thought string.
    I think that her doing SOMETHING isn’t coming as much of a surprise though. The signs have been there.
    • threedevilshared .
      i’m too lazy to look for the link, but she dismissed him because he was a child and didn’t believe he would understand + that it would take him too long to learn
  • Dennis Grace
    Great speech, Dunc, and not really a surprise. Your answer to the Commander misses one important point: PP clearly has her own agenda. Who’s to say she will WANT to return all those demons to Hell? And if she draws a little coterie of demons around her, will you be able to convince her?
  • Chris Dangerfield
    What a fun page!
    Okay all I can really say, aside from thank you for the consistently great art and dialog, is that how can a suspended battered Amanda make more sense and elicit more solid information in two pages… than ANYONE has done in the entire book?
    She is amazing. Duncan’s hormones turn off and he starts talking to her more like an adult, even more than he does with Sircea. Amanda is the awesome of awesomes. You can see (in her mother) where she got this cool confident verve from.
    Love it. Thank you guys. It’s fun to reflect that Amanda never takes her “big girl pants” off. She is THE cool. LOL.
  • davefragments
    I am wondering about the comment that Sircea will gain power form the demons on the earth. That magical power is increased with demons around is intriguing and puzzling. That demons will be critical for strengthening the walls between dimensions seems questionable.
    • Chris Dangerfield
      WHAT? A sneaky double cross. OMG… Alex Woolfson is FARRRRR too good and upstanding a person to pull such a thing on his earnest readers.
      A surprise, a switcheroo, a double cross from a supreme set of villains?Fie, I say. Never. Not our good old rock solid and predictable Alex. He would NEVER stoop so low as to surprise us that way.
      Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahcoughcoughahahahahaha…
  • fujoshifanatic
    Is Anni asking Amanda in earnest? Seems a little late for that. It would be interesting to know how PP gets extra power from demons walking the earth if she isn’t part demon herself; as usual ( in a good way), answers leading to more questions.
    Love how Amanda comports herself such that Anni is not only speaking to her without a dismissive tone, but seems to ask her for her input on how this whole demon wall situation can be fixed. It takes a real Commander to elicit that kind of respect.
    So sorry to hear about your dad, Alex; sending good thoughts and wishes towards you and your loved ones.
    • Klaus
      We can not hear his tone of voice. I think it is as least as likely to be a rhetorical question. What he means is: nobody knows another way.
      (For some reason I get this image of Duncan saying. “Would I ask a rhetorical question?”)
      • Chris Dangerfield
        Am I asking a rhetorical question? WAIT? That WAS a rhetorical question. So…………….
  • Nirgal
    Dude, you’ve got a fucking PRINCE OF HELL standing right next to you.
    Just saying.
    • Klaus
      Sadly, this prince of Hell is not going to be fucking until he learns to control his powers better.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        Oh, piffle, he’s just a hottie. It’ll all work out. 😀
    • Saxon_Brenton
      I… Uh… Erm… Okay, it never occurred to me to consider that maybe Red Hot could act as the power source for repairing the dimensional wall collapse. I feel silly now.
      For what it’s worth, the title ‘Prince of Hell’ certainly is evocative of having greater power levels. However I don’t think we’ve seen any instances of Red Hot being able to manipulate that amount of power. Even going by the trading cards, my gut feeling that there’s a huge difference in energy output between powering a planet wide (minimum) spell of repair and smothering a single forest fire or a single nuclear reactor in meltdown. (And that is assuming that what he was actually doing, rather than controlling a blast from hydrogen ignition to prevent damage that might further compromise the actual nuclear core).
      I really like the idea, and I’m really grateful that you pointed out something that I’d missed, but I’m going to need to see some evidence in-story before I’ll latch onto it and declare it my head canon.
      • Chris Dangerfield
        See, I was totally sincere about my “sensible peanut gallery” comment!
      • timemonkey
        We don’t really know WHAT Kyle is capable of. He hasn’t really been testing his limits.
      • Klaus
        It is not about the power demons control, it is the power they leak, so to speak, that will be available for PP to use. But if Kyle was radiating a significant amount of magical power, Spooky would have noticed long ago.
      • Matt Lovinski
        Dbz has a term for all that rot…latent potential. Meaning Red Hot could very well possess that power but hasn’t tapped into it yet. Think of Red hot as Kid Gohan and you’ll see my argument. But alas there’s another problem with the thought and that is, there is a possibility that using red hot as a power source to repair the walls might inadvertently kill him due to the massive drainage of power from the machine. So in all reality it may be better to use the demons because it thins out the population and in turn makes it easier on the wall for a while.
  • KatKaleen
    Hm… I know that Duncan is not an ice-cold killer, he still has moral standards and he THINKS he’s doing the right thing, but… why does he trust Sircea? She’s obviously bloodthirsty and crazier than a banana nailed to a wall, so WHY would he team up with her?
    • Wayne Lunkwitz
      Sorry KatKaleen, but I’m sitting here…..chuckling over “Crazier than a banana nailed to a wall”. Where does this stuff come from?????
      • KatKaleen
        The abyss of my brain.No further explanation. Life is a mistery and the most cryptic thing are humans.
      Well for the most part, he has no choice really. As he said, the usefulness of the walls have a time limit. A time limit that mind you is quickly running out. If I had to hazard a guess, it’s because he’s a quote unquote villian. Because of that the heroes won’t trust him, and the villians he can’t trust himself but with sircea seeing as she’s been there from their inception in his mind she’s his best shot at making things work out in the end.
    • Mir
      The banana nailed to a wall comment made me lol.
  • Sunseahl Silverfall
    I still have to wonder…. Where are the ACTUAL superheroes in all this? Sure it’ll take an hour for the MILITARY to arrive… but TYP was there first… PRETTY SURE the “Adult” supers should have been there by now. >.>
    • They’re all gone on that crisis meeting. It was metioned in chapter 1 during the dinner in Hong Kong, just before Duncan and Kyle had to jump from the missile.
      • Saxon_Brenton
        Off planet, actually. According to what Fluke said back at the warehouse, all the high-powered heroes and interns are off-planet for the Crisis of Collided Trans-World Identities. And from what Kyle said during the dinner in Hong Kong, a significant number of the adult supervillains are there too. In any case, a task force like that would reasonably take quite some time.
        [Y’know, that creates an interesting image. All the big name heroes finish saving the universe, return to Earth tired but triumphant, and find it crawling with demons. “Aw for crying out load, now what!?”]
        • Oh right. That explains the days/week long absense.
          Heroes: Can’t we even get to leave for a FEW days before the earth go under anyway?
          Villains: (-_-) I think we just got outshined as bad guys. Now what? *looks at heroes* ..any chance you take applications?
        • Chris Dangerfield
          You know Galactus is eating fabulous dumplings and rolling his eyes about it all right now…
        • Ha! 🙂
        • Klaus
          All in a days work for a superhero.
    • Chris Dangerfield
      ADULTS? They are old and slow… that’s all we know. 🙂
  • stickfigurefairytales
    Right now ExSec has been leaning pretty hard towards the “ignoring it in hopes that it will go away” solution.
    • Chris Dangerfield
      Thank you! Someone needed to say it. Our GOVERNMENT, not at work, once again. :/
    • I had imagined them to be in a panic behind the scene, trying to figure out what’s been going on, where their dampener went and all that, while they tried to keep the disaster a secret.. but your option sound quite possible too.
      Maybe they’ve been focused too much on that crisis thing everyone else has gone to, and ‘forgotten’ that there may have been bigger problems closer to home.
  • Jason Moon
    Ah, one of those GREAT plans that rely on absolutely NOTHING going wrong and NO GUARANTEE that they’ll be able to close the Pandora’s Box once it’s opened. The ones that require much crossing of fingers, as if that helps. The kind of plan that CANNOT BE BACKED OUT OF OR REVERSED SHOULD ANYONE CHANGE THEIR MINDS. In other words, something rock-solid and dependable.
    ‘Cause those ALWAYS work. 🙂
    • timemonkey
      To be fair, assuming Sircea isn’t lying then they’re in a better position by making this deal since it’s only a matter of time before the walls collapse and demons flood the Earth anyway, this way they’ve set some limits.
  • Chris Dangerfield
    Thank yew… it’s what I live for… 🙂
  • Rick T
    I got my copy in the mail today! I had seen the book at GaymerX so I knew it was beautifully printed, but the stickers and cards look so o-fish!
    • Yay! So glad you like your rewards! Thank you for letting me know! 🙂
  • MoonByte
    In short “So, in case I wanna go back on all this and betray my ‘partner’, you heroes wouldn’t happen to have a great fool-proved plan that would not end with half humanity enslaved AND my boyfriend-to-be hating me?”
  • Earl Patterson
    Enough with chat chit, let’s see some active bring demon into world!
    Anybody here for camping yet?
    • *cuddles with stick*
        • *purrs*
          • stickfigurefairytales
            How have you been doing?
          • Here and there. I am in the process of beta reading a fic.
          • stickfigurefairytales
            That sounds cool. Is it a long fic?
          • Pretty much a rewrite of HP, but follows his twin sister instead of Harry. I haven’t really gotten to far into it yet.
          • stickfigurefairytales
            Good luck!
          • First official beta of a fanfic. ^_^
          • stickfigurefairytales
            Go you!!
    • Pietro7
      I brought Thin Mints and Lemon Shortbread. (The girl scouts captured me and demanded I pay ransom, but included cookies.)
      • stickfigurefairytales
        Oooh, Thin Mints!!
      • I will take them all.
        • stickfigurefairytales
          *defiantly stuffs half a roll of Thin Mints into mouth*
        • Pietro7
          Naughty girls! Share! 😉
          • …..but you only share Girl Scout cookies if you have a secret hoard!
          • stickfigurefairytales
            …I would offer to share some of the ones I took, but they’ve already been in my mouth.
    • Making tuna noodle casserole.
      • stickfigurefairytales
        Yummy!
        • It has thai chili tuna in it (no drain kind). We like to get tuna that isn’t packed in broth, since that broth always has soy in it. The tuna in the broth–even though they say it’s in water–always makes me feel ill.
          • stickfigurefairytales
            That sucks. I’m glad you can get at least some kinds that don’t make you sick, though.
          • Yep. So I can’t ever really buy the cheap tuna. But at least the kind I get isn’t the most expensive.
          • Fresh tuna is amazing, and I love a good tuna beef 🙂
          • Too bad fresh tuna is so expensive. 😐
          • Most fresh fish can be really pricy. I’m lucky to have a dad or other family that hobby-fish, so sometimes I get newly caught fish. There’s also a fisherman who sells fish at a booth one day a week in the town my parents live in, and it’s not that pricy.
          • That’s pretty cool. We’re basically stuck with frozen. -_- Or fresh from frozen.
      • davefragments
        I have nightmares of Tuna Hoodle Casseroles flying in from outer space with giant ray gun blasts, sucking the brains out of the human race.
        • Ha! Well it’s been made from scratch, so there is that.
  • davefragments
    This is my little isle of sanity.
    The rest of the world has gone crazy or stupid or “who cares” anymore.
    • stickfigurefairytales
      Especially frightening when you consider that we regularly offer each other imaginary digital food and drinks.
      • davefragments
        No, that’s just silly fun.
        This past week has been nothing but political coverage of the most strange and bizarre and gut-bustlingly weird things.
        • stickfigurefairytales
          That’s fair. The world is indeed a very disturbing place.
          • davefragments
            Do you realize that Ted Cruz compared Donald Trump to Austin Power’s “Olde Phat Bastard”? ? ? There is no dignity left after that.
          • stickfigurefairytales
            Well, to be fair, there’s never really been any dignity in politics. Just look at John Adams and Thomas Jefferson’s respective campaigns against each other.
          • davefragments
            That’s true.
            Thursday I have a stage play … the Public Theater is performing Guys And Dolls.
          • stickfigurefairytales
            Ooh, fun! I went to see a play last night with some friends. It’s called “Mr. Burns” and it’s about people retelling a Simpsons episode after an apocalyptic event resulted in the loss of all electrical power.
          • davefragments
            Now that’s a modern disaster — no internet…
          • stickfigurefairytales
            I know! I would miss all of you guys so much. D:
          • davefragments
            Yes. TYP is a nice part of the internet.
          • stickfigurefairytales
            And fanfiction. I would miss fanfiction so much.
          • davefragments
            I agree. I like the electronic publication stuff.
            I just burn out on politics and get miserable about it. That along with snow and ice.
          • Yes. I would hate to never know what happens next between Harry, Dumbledore, Tom, and the velociraptors.
          • davefragments
            I wrote one of those stories where all sorts of unusual characters showed up in it.
            I got hate mail over it. I rationalizing it as an accomplishment. Some people don’t like their stories mashed together.
            I’m waiting for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES on TV so I can play it 3 or 4000 times.
          • I stumbled across a HP/Jurassic Park III crossover fic. I found is surprisingly interesting. *giggles* Rita gave one of the raptors indigestion…
          • davefragments
            I was wondering. I didn’t know how to ask.
            I have a Sasquatch character that has telepathic fleas.
          • evil telepathic fleas?
          • davefragments
            Not yet. I’ve kept them reasonably good. I’ll think about that possibility, though.
  • In for camping, now that I have a couple hours worth of power on my tablet. Had to wait after reading ebook earlier, having to stop when power was down to 1% (the horror of having to stop at bad timing when reading).
    My afternoon nap (bc of headache) was supposed to be about 1 1/2 hour, but I managed to turn the alarm off and keep on sleeping, so it turned into 6 1/2 hours. Means I haven’t slept yet, and now waiting to see if I get tired enough to get a nap before the time I have to get up again.
    At least I have camping and a page ahead of me 🙂
    • Hello Danish!
    • davefragments
      Hi.
    • Good Morning, Ms. Wolf
      • Morning, night..not sure what it is right now. Technically both, but closer to first even though my inner (screwed up) clock leans towards last *lol*
    • stickfigurefairytales
      I’m actually going to have to check out very shortly, since I only got three hours of sleep last night.
      I hope you’ll be able to get more rest soon!
      • Sleep well then. My afternoon ‘nap’ was some of the best sleep I’ve gotten in a week. Just very wrong time of the day.
        • stickfigurefairytales
          Thank you! 🙂
  • stickfigurefairytales
    All right, bed time for Stick. Goodnight, everybody!
