The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 21

671 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 21

Y’know, Fluke, on the last page, a bunch of readers were like calling you a Debbie Downer. And I was all like “Uh, uh! Fluke’s not a buzz-kill. Whether the bad guys can be stopped is, y’know, totally the next logical question!” And yet here you are, like a little pragmatic rain cloud, ending the page again by peeing all over Spooky’s sunshine. Well, I say, buck up, Buckaroo! However bad-ass those villains are, it’s not like it’s the end of the world…

Um, right?

We had our twenty-ninth bonus page in a row on Wednesday, and in addition to our regular Saturday updates, thanks to your generous donations, there will be bonus pages on Wednesday, February 5th (page 22!), a bonus page on on Wednesday, February 12 (page 24!), a bonus page (page 26!) on Wednesday, February 19th and look below! We’re already at $240 towards the bonus page after that!

Special thanks go out to long-time supporter Saxon B. (who makes their sixty-first generous donation to The Young Protectors!) and a warm welcome and grateful bow go out to new supporter Robert A. for their generous donations over the last few days!

Big hugs go out to new friend of The Young Protectors Shannon C. and also to long-time friends Marc B., Robert B., & joshua G. for their super-generous $25 donations! And this makes Marc’s sixth, Robert’s fifty-second, and joshua’s fifty-fourth super-generous donations to this comic!

And finally, superhero-strength hugs go out to long-time super-friend Christopher D. for their amazingly generous $50 donation, their fortieth (!!) amazingly generous donation to this comic! You are a ROCK STAR, Christopher!

Thank you all so much for your generous support!

So! Spooky says they actually have a short window of time to make this right. But as Fluke points out, they are hopelessly outclassed by The Annihilator and The Platinum Priestess. Will this simple fact harsh Spooky’s mellow? Or will smiles and rainbows continue to spring forth from the dark recesses of his trench coat?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! Edit 2/1/14 6:54 PM: You’ve done it AGAIN! Thanks to your amazingly generous donations, you’ve tipped over the donation bar below. That means that in addition to our regular Saturday updates, and bonus pages on Wednesday, February 5th (page 22!), a bonus page on on Wednesday, February 12 (page 24!), a bonus page on Wednesday, February 19th (page 26!), there will now also be a bonus page (page 28!) on Wednesday, February 26th as well! You’ve got the whole month of February covered! Woo hoo! You rock! Thank you all so, so much! 😀

  • Sapfo

And now plans to defeat Laampros:

    1. return to headquarters.

    2. tell the commander what happened.

    3. Get grounded …..

Oopsi, that did not go exactly goes as planned.

    • Choreocrat

I’d like to think that any consequences like grounding will wait until after the apocalypse.

      • stickfigurefairytales

“If we’re still alive when this is over, you are stuck cleaning the bathroom for ages, mister!”

        • Sapfo

I really want some more scenes with Amanda.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Me too!!

          • Holly

            THIRDED

          • silibub

            Co-signed!

        • Choreocrat

Not to mention the consequences of her seeing the internet history. And what Flyboy saw.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I think her position there is mostly “I really don’t want to know.”

          • Choreocrat

That would be *before* she finds out that Flyboy was involved. I think she’d be kind of protective of him. Older sister style.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm…I could see that going either way, personally.

          • Madock345

Not much for her to see, they flat out told her what it was.

          • Choreocrat

            You think they stopped there?

        • Holly

Kyle: Amanda I accidentally doomed the world.
          Commander to Spooks: Did he?
Spooks: Kind of but it’s not REALLY his fault
Commander: Okay don’t care then. We save the world.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Now that I could see happening.

          • Holly

She is so awesome and no nonsense.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Damn right!

          • Steven K.

That would be the best of all possible reactions.

        • Steven K.

That wouldn’t be cool. I assume Amanda has her own bathroom though. She may not want a fellow in there messing with her stuff. And she can keep her panties hanging on the rod without any complaints (sorry – old “Goodbye Girl” reference).

    • Aww *hugs my virgin*

      • Sapfo

Now, take good care of Virgin…. he likes to be scratched behind the right ear and chocolate. Bye Virgin! (,◕︷◕,)

Hope you like your package just as much.

  • A view from a window? Is that Mitch???

    • b3nc0

And an elevated view at that!

  • SofiaT

    Is that Flyboy’s POV?

    • Sapfo

      It seems like it.
Mitch knows how to get his info when no one is willing to tell him anything. Good for him. ^_^

  • Holly

    SO CLOSE! 🙁

  • Down to business.. did we get that view from outside the window because Flyboy is watching them?

  • SofiaT

    And what’s meta-humans???
    The plot thickens…

    • stickfigurefairytales

I think it’s usually used to refer to any humans with superpowers (as opposed to aliens, demons, robots, etc.)

      • SofiaT

Yep, but is it synonymous to mutant or something else?
        Hmmm…

        • stickfigurefairytales

I’ve mostly seen it used as something distinct from mutants, so I think that’s how it’s being used here, but who knows for sure?

        • Holly

Meta Humans just refers to people with powers. It covers all classes from Magic to mutation.

    • Choreocrat

Personally I like ‘posthumans’, because of the implication that it’s the next stage.

Hmm… that sounds a little too Magneto. Whoops!

      • SofiaT

        But meta-humans means post-humans. 🙂

        • Choreocrat

          Roses, names, sweet-smelling…

          • Holly

wow way to downplay the shakespeare of it all. 😛

        • Klaus

          That is one possible meaning.

  • Holly

“We have several…hours to solve this.” God I love Spooks! I love that there is hope, but it is still super dire right now. Thank goodness none of their team could get into the big leagues. I mean except Spooks who just doesn’t want to be in the big leagues.

  • stickfigurefairytales

    “Not the interns!”

  • Steven K.

    Meta-Humans?????

    • Holly

      POWERED PEOPLE!

      • Steven K.

Well, is he using that term to refer to all super-powered people (which I could understand from certain points of view), or are Duncan and Sircea a special order of being? If so, more evidence that they could be siblings.

        • stickfigurefairytales

I think it’s all super-powered people. It would be a lot less impressive if they were the most powerful out of a fairly small group of people.

      • Steven K.

I know what the prefix “meta-” generally means in a few different contexts, but would it make sense (Sofia – as this is a Greek derivative, feel free to chime in) that the term META-humans simply refers to people with superpowers?

        • stickfigurefairytales

          It does in DC comics.

          • Steven K.

OK – I’ve been out of that loop for quite a number of years.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Yeah, I don’t follow any of the New 52 stuff – I’m more of a Marvel fan in general, really.

          • Steven K.

Same here – or at least I was in my more youthful very active comic-following and buying days.

          • Holly

I mostly know from JLU because TV is free and comics cost money. 🙁

        • SofiaT

          “Meta” means “after”, “later”.

I wrote that somewhere below or above, not sure where at the moment.

          • Steven K.

Right – that’s one sense. I’m just not sure that fits – unless “regular” humans are going to gradually be replaced. It would also rather imply that super-powered beings are something other than HUMANS with additional powers. “Enhanced humans” would make more sense to me if those with superpowers still have a genome that is mostly or essentially human.

    • DC

Ones who have undergone some sort of metamorphosis??????

    • Klaus

Humans containing less water than orthohumans. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/meta-

      Or more likely definition 1.

  • Librarican

Crisis? Off-planet for the Crisis!? What crisis?
Anyone else thinking the timing was done intentionally?

    • SofiaT

The Crisis of Colliding Trans-World Identities.

And yes, Duncan wouldn’t leave the timing to chance 🙂

      • Steven K.

OK – now we can have a debate concerning what is meant by a TRANS-world. As “trans” means “across”, trans-world in this adjectival usage could normally be seen to mean “across the world” – identities across the world. But that doesn’t seem to be the case from the context, which suggests something larger – as in “across worlds” (plural) – identities that are colliding across worlds – though if that is the basic sense intended, I might have used the term “inter-world identities” – those between worlds.

    • Holly

The crisis that got mentioned during the dinner in China.

And Yeah, I think it was intentional. They are very smart villains after all. They have been planning this for MONTHS if not years.

      • Librarican

I’m left wondering what would have happened if the spell hadn’t worked, then what? Would they have to have created another massive diversion to get the supers off planet at the same time?

        • stickfigurefairytales

          The “Look over there!” plan

        • SofiaT

I have a feeling they didn’t create the crisis -they just took advantage of it.

My gut tells me the Crisis has more to do with all of this than just the timing and the convenience of the adult teams all being away -and looking forward to see what that is!

          • Choreocrat

My understanding was that it’s not a fake crisis, but they did precipitate it somehow (starting an intergalactic war or something like that).

          • SofiaT

Oh, I’m sure it’s not fake! And maybe they did cause it somehow, maybe they didn’t.

Anni’s parting monologue leads me to believe that the Crisis is not anything to laugh at but probably only as a part of something bigger and much, much scarier. Or maybe that “something bigger” is something else entirely. Too many unknowns. But whatever that “something” is, it worries even the great and strong Mr. Annihilator. So, if the Crisis is part of it, I can’t see Duncan causing it.

          • Holly

mmm yeah i can see where you are going with this.

OO GET THE DEMONS TO FIGHT THE ALIENS. 😛

          • Klaus

This may well be what Duncan intends.

      • EyeDontNo

        Like maybe SIX years?
Kyle mentions that Duncan hasn’t committed anything major crime-wise for about six years, and anything in that period was more self-defense than aggressively seeking trouble. (Again at the Chinese dinner date.

    • Choreocrat

I’m guessing that was PP’s responsibility in the planning.

    • Librarican

Okay, I had to go back and find the reference… Made over a year ago

  • silibub

Meta-humans! That’s an interesting term for super-powered people — I like it (what does “meta” stand for, I wonder?). Another bit of contextual information for me to hoard.

That perspective from the window is verrry interesting — is Mitch keeping an eye on his teammates instead of his surroundings?

    • Holly

Meta is what DC calls their supers.

      • Holly

        Meta gene!

        • silibub

Oh! Good to know, thank you!

    • SofiaT

      Meta = After.

It’s why I wonder if it’s similar to mutant.

      • silibub

After, like the next stage in human evolution?

      • Sapfo

Well Kyle is not have a mutation. Hes father on the other hand…

        • davefragments

I think demigod is the right word to describe Kyle.

          • Holly

DemiGod seems a little much. I wonder what the opposite of Nephlim is…

          • Sapfo

Is it not more like DemiDemon? o.O
            Or Prince?

          • Holly

Nephlim the children of angels with human women.

Um yeah Hell Prince seems right.

          • davefragments

I was thinking more like Perseus of the Greek legends — son of a God and a mortal woman.

          • Holly

But Laampros isn’t a god. Though King of Hell goes have a Hades esque vibe. So maybe technically Kyle is a demi god.

I don’t know demon hierarchies make my brain hurt. *drinks my special juice.*

          • davefragments

Then it’s whatever word you wish.

          • Holly

            THANKS DAVE! *hugs*

          • Klaus

Depending on how you define god.

          • Madock345

Nephilim is actually perfect, they were the children of *Fallen* angels.

          • Holly

            awesome! ^_^

          • Steven K.

I’ll buy that, if being a “King of Hell” is equivalent to being a god. Yeah – like Holly mused below. If Laampros has some hierarchical equivalency to Hades or Pluto, you could use that I suppose.

      • Madock345

Less “after” and more “Beyond”, as in something that transcends something else. Like how you have Metaphysics.

Metahumans are people who have in some way gone beyond the limits of what humans are naturally capable of.

        • SofiaT

I just translated it, how is being used here is debatable.
But the Greek word for “beyond” is “pera”. 🙂

        • Steven K.

Can also be used (unlikely the case here) as “about the thing referred to” (or something like that) – as in “metadata” – data about data, etc.

  • CH

You only need the big names for aliens silly, you’ll be fine.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm, I don’t know…aliens versus demons… Has that been a SciFi (SyFy? SyFi? however the hell they’re spelling it now) Original Movie yet?

      • They’re busy working on Sharknado 2

        • Oh god. That’s the funniest ‘horror’ movie I’ve ever seen, Sharknado. I laughed so much. Instant cult movie because it’s so damn bad.

          • I only saw a bit of it and the bit of it I saw was quite bad. 🙂

          • davefragments

It’s supposed to be quite bad. that’s the fun of watching it.

        • Sapfo

          XD

      • SHHHHHH Don’t give them any ideas!!!!

        • Holly

Some day I will have to tell you all about the magic of Space!

          • I love space. When I was younger I loved space so much I convinced myself I was an alien.

There were two versions of this.

            1) I was sent to observe humanity

            2) I was an alien princess hiding out on earth from other aliens that were trying to kill me.

          • Holly

…No. Space is Canadian Syfy. Except it doens’t suck. It’s awesome.

Also that’s lovely. I always told myself i was a changeling or some other form of fey.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Everywhere is Vancouver! Or Wales.

          • Holly

            Also New Zealand!

          • AH. Well, I believe Canada gave us most of Stargate right?

          • Holly

YES! And other shows. SPN is in Vancouver.

          • I love SG1 and the first couple of seasons of SGA, not quite so fond of SGU

          • OH, question for you, do you know of the Tales from the Neverending Story? I think it was a min-series? in Canada, I have the first disk, but I cannot find the second and third.

          • Holly

Yes i know the show. No I do not know how to get the disks. The show was only one season though. Unless you are talking about it as a mini series which is FOUR parts. But it’s only 13 episodes.

      • davefragments

Does the alien possessed wholly mammoth clone rampaging through town count?? That’s a real movie, btw

        • Steven K.

I assume that was supposed to be wooly mammoth, rather than the other alternative – Holy mammoth?

          • davefragments

oops, typed to fast there — WOOLY is the word.

I think that the alien possessed wooly mammoth movie on SyFy was the inspiration for Sharknado. It’s a new form of entertainment — movies to jeer at when you’re stoned, or boozy, or simply silly over a late night pizza.

When I was a kid, movie theaters had balconies and during bad movies we always had balcony popcorn — unpopped and thrown over the railings. Then there were the chocolate covered raisins that were ideal for bouncing off bald heads.

      • CH

I actually meant big name superheroes (Ironman, Captain America…)
But you’re right that does sound like a SyFy movie of the week

        • stickfigurefairytales

No, I gotcha on that. I was just debating whether aliens or demons were a bigger threat.

          • CH

            Gotcha.
I imagine the demons are trickier… you know all that “what do we mean by demons?” “Are we implying a theology here?” stuff…

          • Holly

No. Demons are a Trigon Level threat. Trigon gets the Teen Titans not The Justice League. So yeah aliens beat demons.

  • Steven K.

Though in response to Alex’s comment/”narration” to this page:
But Kyle has Laampros for a DAD! – That connection must be worth SOMETHING in all this.

    • SofiaT

“Dad” implies a certain tender relationship.

      That’s missing here.

      • Steven K.

Well, if we want to be technical, Laampros did show some tenderness to Kyle – in fact, a lot more than Duncan did while they were together.

        • SofiaT

Yep, and a python “hugs” you before he kills you.

          • Holly

…my friends ball python gives me wrist hugs and kisses. Then someone else tried to hold him and he tried to crush their fingers.

          • Steven K.

Well, Laampros seemed like a proud papa to me – and regardless of other factors, I don’t think he has any intention of eating Kyle.

          • stickfigurefairytales

But can he unhinge his jaw, that’s what I want to know.

          • Steven K.

There are many of us who wish we could do that. (Sorry – just me being naughty again.)

          • SofiaT

But even if Laampros has fatherly feeling for Kyle (which I seriously doubt), considering Kyle’s reaction to being HellSpawn, do you think he’d wish to have anything to do with him?

          • Steven K.

But that doesn’t mean one couldn’t make a power-play or use that as a bargaining point or position based on that relationship.

          • SofiaT

He could, true. If he’s learned anything from Duncan.

But I’m skeptical -Kyle is too pure and straightforward to use the methods of The Annihilator. Even if it’s to fool a Demon.

          • Steven K.

I still say Kyle just needs to tell dad to go and relax or chill out on some island and take a millennially-long vacation and that he’ll rule things in his place.
(Like a good prince should be able to do when his pop the king is away.)

          • Holly

BRILLIANT! Though I feel like his dad would give him small but impressive seeming as a test. Like Canada. We are pretty much empty.

So there might be a few years of Demon rule before Kyle takes the reigns.

I just remembered that Duncan is supposed to get Canada and I’m sad. I miss George.

          • Librarican

Yeah, but if Kyle did try to power play his new found branches of his demonic family tree, do you think anyone would really believe him? Besides, who would he go to with that information? I think it is safe to assume that any demons would probably not be too friendly towards the group because of past run-ins with either the Young Protectors or Duncan/PP.

I’m also not sure if Laampros was playing the “proud papa” card so much as the “look what I did/created” card. Like a cat who ate the canary, it’s a testament to his power, not necessarily a testament of foundness towards Kyle. Because let’s face it, if he really wanted to, Laampros could have released Kyle in a heartbeat.

          • Jakk Anthony Guzman

Laampros is far more dangerous than Duncan–way older, wiser and devious. If Kyle fell for Duncan’s tricks he would do much worse against Laampros.

          • Steven K.

Yeah – that’s the part that doesn’t make sense – Laampros makes these proud and fond pronouncements about Kyle, but, even though looking at and watching him all bound and scared and helpless, he tells him not to cry but does absolutely nothing to help or free him.

          • Librarican

Maybe Laampros tells him not to cry because he doesn’t want it reflected badly on him. If Kyle had been a blubbering idiot (no matter how justified we think Kyle would be), I can picture George talking to Laampros, in a condescending Alfred voice after the portal closed; “So that was your son?”

          • EyeDontNo

Laampros didn’t free Kyle because Kyle was the doorway between dimensions. If he freed Kyle, the door would close before Laampy finished his deal with Duncan.
On a side note: the Kiss on the forehead may have been more of ‘inserting a tracking spell’ disguised as a sign of affection. At this point we really don’t know if Laampy’s species uses the same rituals of affection that the Human species does. (Did Spooky check the forehead? Did he know about that particular kiss?) Just something to think about.

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

Steven I agree with Sofia on this one. Yes, Laampros showed tenderness towards Kyle, but we don’t know if he has ulterior motives or how he truly feels towards Kyle. Let’s hope you are right and that Kyle’s connection to Laampros can be used for a good purpose.

  • Fluke is such a worry wart. It’s kinda cute, even when I want to Gibbs Smack him.

    • silibub

Someone has to ask the practical questions! And considering they’re operating under a time limit, they better take stock of what resources they have and come up with a plan quickly.

      • Oh sure. It’s true, but I find it kinda cute with him.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I mostly just want to hug him.

    • Librarican

I love how Gibbs smack has become a thing with this group!

      • CH

So far as I’m concerned it just is a thing.

        • Indeed!

        • Librarican

I guess I’m just amazed at how many cultural references are understood when we have people from so many different countries participating in the discussion. Unless NCIS has gone global without my knowledge.

          • CH

Not sure. Think my Aussie pal knows it, know my friends in the UK and France do, but it might just be internet osmosis.

          • I would definitely say, internet osmosis. They’ve also reached their 250th episode so long running helps too.

          • Choreocrat

I’ve seen it in Australia and Spain both.

          • Klaus

            This is the Google age.

          • NCIS is quite a popular series, also outside US.
In Denmark old seasons are on every afternoon weekday, over and over again. As soon as the last episode on last season previous to the current one is over, it start back from the beginning. And then the new season of course is on a weeknight every week.

However this time, the new season doesn’t start here until this wednesday where it’s halfway through in US. That’s the latest it’s started here after airing in US in a while. Think it’s because we caught up to a current episode on previous season and had to take a break for a while. We’re only allowed to show the episode at least a week or two after US.

      • Well Gibbs is awesome as are Gibbs smacks. 🙂 I mean such a little thing says so much!

      • I’ve Gibbs smacked it onto them 😉

  • silibub

Also, I love their initiative, but the prospect of them busting in on Duncan and Sircea in the middle of a powerful magical ritual, and possibly encountering Laampros as he crosses over to Earth, makes me really nervous on behalf of the Protectors…

    • Choreocrat

Fluke could end up with some *really* bad luck out of it.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Which would then be good! Hooray!

    • Steven K.

      Kyle:
“Daaaaaaaaad!!!!!! – I don’t need you interfering in my life (not to mention my world!) now – you weren’t here for me before, why should you want to be here now? I know you made a deal with my asshole of a would-be boyfriend after he totally betrayed me – but he really did hurt me and doesn’t deserve nor should be entitled to what he asked for. If I burn that contract off his arm, and get him to relent, maybe you can just go back home and relax, and just let me take over from here on this side. K?”

  • Madock345

I love that first panel, the way spooky just pops out into three dimensions is amazingly well done.

Speaking of Spooky, I wonder how he stacks up compared to the Platinum Priestess, a duel between those two would be incredible, I love magic battles.

    • silibub

I’m interested to see what a duel between them would look like, too! The art would be so awesome.

    • Klaus

I expect that in a head on confrontation, she would sweep the floor with him. The premise here is that our heroes are way put of their league. Now if he has a surprise or two up his sleeve …

      • EyeDontNo

Naw, the surprise is under his hat….

  • stickfigurefairytales

“Pff, we’ve got plenty of time. Who’s up for some Super Smash Bros?”

    • silibub

Looks like Fluke can finish that Angry Birds level he was working on when Kyle called.

  • SEE! I knew that crisis thing and the timing was of importance o_o
As I said somewhere on earlier page. Damn good timing there with all of them away.

So it’s basicly down to Spooky, Commander and a bunch of ‘rejects’ and low-powered interns around the world to fight a king of hell?

Oh goody. This will be fun 😉

More than ever, I’m curious about who Spooky’s teacher(-s) in powers and magic knowledge has been. He sure knows about demons and what it takes to conjure them.
Has one of them been Sircei or have they just crossed maical blades a time or two?
As we’ve talked about on earlier pages, she’s someone Spooky has told Kyle about so she’s of some importance – be it ‘just’ because she’s one who has powers to equal him?

    • Sapfo

Well we all know what will happen when the underdog gets to play (I do hope so)

It´s Seabiscuit and our young protectors.

    • I actually really love the idea that it is going to be the “rejects” that save the day. Be a huge slap in the face for the others.

  • YangYueLan

OOOOH, this is the reason California is on fire!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Damn it, Kyle!

  • Kiri

Actually, disrupting a ritual doesn’t necessarily require high powered people, just well placed interventions. As it says in Lord of the Rings: “Yet such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world:
small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are
    elsewhere.”

    • stickfigurefairytales

Maybe they could throw a rock to mess up an important invocation!

    • Steven K.

Yeah – love that – when we think that our actions – those of us who don’t have much power or influence – don’t make a difference or have much influence, it’s nice to think about that – and when we all work together for a common goal, and combine our individually small efforts together, that can help influence things as well.

  • Holly

“Paul we need to fridge your girlfriend to save the world. Is that bad enough Luck?!”

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Boo! Hiss!

      • Holly

I was just hoping to restart the Paul gets lost in the woods thread. Remember that?!

        • stickfigurefairytales

Aw, I think I missed that one!

          • Holly

It was around the time Kyle was encircled by flame but before he and duncan went to hell. And we made a story about Paul having horrible luck as he comes to rescue Kyle so that he has enough Luck Juice to win. It was funny!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Nifty! I’ll have to go back and see if I can find that. 🙂

          • Holly

            GOOD LUCK ^^

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’ve been searching but I haven’t found it – I gave up while trying to make it through the 1900+ comments on chapter 3, page 31.

          • Holly

            wow poor Stick

          • Jamie Dutton

Watch out for the Sasquatches and the bears…they still ain’t happy with us, lol.

    • Choreocrat

Ouch! Is it still bad luck when it’s done specifically to count as bad luck in order to bring good luck? Or does it have to be fate-induced?

      • Holly

Yeah I think it has to just be fate. But I don’t know. I wish Alex was around to answer.

        • Choreocrat

          I don’t know, these people in night-time time-zones…

Now they know how us Aussies feel!

          • Holly

            It’s like 1:28am here.

          • 12 31 am here

          • Choreocrat

3:30pm – I’m used to waking up and finding all the replies already made.

          • Holly

You know tumblr has a theory that there are no Night Bloggers, only australians.

          • Choreocrat

There aren’t many of us, but we’re enthusiastic. 😉

          • Holly

There is a picture that I love on tumblr. I reblogged it once but didn’t tag it and i want to show people but I can’t now 🙁 It’s about australian sleep schedules

          • Choreocrat

It may or may not have turned up on Buzzfeed the other day in an article about Australians on the net.

          • Holly

            Link?!

          • Choreocrat

            Can’t find it! Sorry…

          • Holly

            aww

          • Choreocrat

Aha! #21 on this is what I was thinking of.
            http://www.buzzfeed.com/jennaguillaume/problems-only-australians-can-understand

It might not be the one you were thinking of though.

          • Miri

4:45am for me… I should probably go to sleep soon, actually!

  • Sapfo

Love the window view in panel 4. 😀
Mitch is being a bad flyboy and at the same time we get a nice view of not only Kyles backside, but also Pauls backside and Spookys front.
The color is really good! And the faces have a lot of feelings to them.

Veronica, Adam Hope you have fun making this.
Alex, Thanks to you and your gang for a great comic.

    • Holly

I really HOPE it’s Mitch watching them. Otherwise I am worried for Mitch’s safety.

      • Sapfo

If that is not Mitch, then I would not just be worried for his safety but also for his lack of curiosity.

I dont like it that they left him outside. He is the youngest.

        • Holly

Well no. I mean I can see Mitch being attacked and his attacker watching them

        • Steven K.

          I didn’t like that either.

    • I’m really glad you’re enjoying it, Sapfo! 🙂

  • Xalun K

Well duh, of course the timing is perfect. They set it all up specifically for this date, and lucky Kyle’s birthday fell on it. So, how area bunch of kids going to take on Anni and PP? That is what I’m looking forward to knowing.

    • davefragments

I think that Kyle was chosen for his birthday. I think the Annihilator falling for Kyle was not intended.

      • SofiaT

I think Kyle was chosen for his ability to open a gate to a Hell dimension. The birthday date was probably just convenient.

        • davefragments

Too many coincidences — Kyle’s birthday is an excuse not to commit a crime against a minor in the restaurant discussion and then it’s when the adult meta-humans are gone off-planet and better yet, he the way to bridge between two dimensions.

          • Jakk Anthony Guzman

Dave, that was probably just talk by the Annihilator. He probably didn’t give a shit if Kyle was a minor or not. And he told him so before.

          • davefragments

But the rest of the meta-humans did care if a villain messed with an underage kid. So Duncan wouldn’t want to call attention by messing around.

          • Jakk Anthony Guzman

If his plan worked he wouldn’t have to worry about the rest of the superheroes. Chapter One, page 59. Duncan tells Kyle he doesn’t care if he’s underage or not.

          • Choreocrat

You think they’d have actually been concerned about age if it hadn’t been convenient?

          • davefragments

yes, in that I take him at his word — why? because piling that many lies on lies is too hard to maintain. Cover the lie with a truth and keep it simple.

        • Holly

I think they probably set up the Crisis to circle around Kyle’s birthday.

      • Xalun K

Kyle was chosen for his fire, I think it just made Duncan feel less…. Creepy, taking advantage of a now-over-18 like that.

      • Jakk Anthony Guzman

Well, if Duncan and Sircea were counting on the rest of the superheroes to be off planet to do their stuff, then Kyle’s birthday was just chance. Maybe they didn’t give shit about his birthday.

        • Steven K.

Though his birthday did make him “legal” to be “messed with” / “fucked with” by the villains.

  • Aja

“Or will smiles and rainbows continue to spring forth from the dark recesses of his trench coat?”
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
seriously, im dying at the imagery lol

    • Choreocrat

Rainbows, hunh? Are we being hinted at?

      • That or Alex is just teasing Chris. ^_^

        • Pff.. you thought of Chris instantly too 😉

          • Yep. ^_^

          • Ahahaahahah… you guys know me too well. I read that AW note and laughed so loud my man gave me a LOOK. Erm… no way to explain to him. That was just great.

          • ^_^ I don’t think any of the regulars could read that and NOT think of how you would react. ^_^

      • Chris would LOVE it 😉

    • Xithyl

Someone make a fan art of this please 😛

  • Sapfo

@DanishWolf:disqus SO you dont miss it this time. Hamlet is LS!

  • Klaus

We knew that the Annihilator is extremely powerful. Paul has now confirmed our (or at least my) suspicion that the Platinum Priestess is too.

    • Holly

      mmm yes.

  • Amberwolf

Can’t believe I forgot about the past like 4 pages! at least I’m caught up again. Hopefully I’ll be here for the one on wednesday. Anyway, at least Kyle is out of his pouting stage, now aggression! Yes.

  • Klaus

If they have only a few hours, should they not inform Amanda right now?

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

They seem to be making plans on how to proceed without consulting with the Commander and the rest of the team.

  • Jeabro21

When he said it will take sometime I was thinking days or weeks but HOURS!! is that really enough time to save the world, I know super hero’s like the justice league or young justice do it within less than an hour but that’s TV this is comics the time difference shifts a little I guess kind of like when you move from NY to LA.

    • Klaus

It will take months, I am sure. With only two pages a week, I just don’t see how they can do it any faster.

      • cheerbearp

I see what you did there. :3

      • Jeabro21

        That’s a good point

  • Michael

It has been shown that, when suitably riled up, Kyle’s flames can be made hot enough to burn Anni. I have a feeling this will crop up again some time shortly, perhaps as some kind of Chekhov’s Gun.

    • Klaus

We do not know that. Hell weakens Duncan (http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-38/ panel 4). And it may also boost Kyle.

    • Steven K.

Yea – but, as intimated, that might be the case where either Kyle’s powers are enhanced while in the Hell-dimension, and/or Duncan’s power’s are weakened.

      • Michael

I know, I know, but like any Red-blooded male, I love a good revenge fantasy. 😛 I know Kyle’s the Hero and all, but I think I’d enjoy watching him tear Anni a new intestinal tract.

  • Mary Klemzak

Something tells me, Spookys mellow won’t be harshed very easily. Which is a great thing. He seems quite intelligent about demons and magic and such. This can work out to their advantage! Specially getting everyone, everywhere involved, instead of keeping it secret. I’m sure Kyle wants to, but it won’t help him.

You go, Spooky Jones! Dont let Mr. Debbie Downer get you, um, down!

  • Cman65

A key can be both used to unlock or lock a door. Red you are the key and we need to use you. 😉

    • Librarican

I’m sure all the shippers (regardless of what ship they are on) are thrilled to consider that possibility!

  • Kate G

It’s my birthday!!!!! Or, well, was? It’s still my birthday in Hawaii!

Time for Spooky to use his Spooky powers! Go go Spooky sense!

    • Well Happy (still your) Birthday (in Hawaii)! 😀

    • Happy birthday.

      • Kate G

        Aw, thanks, Danish!

    • Denise Cruz

      Happy Birthday, Kate!! 😉

      • Kate G

        Thank you!

      • Kate G

        Thank you, Denise!

    • Jamie Dutton

      Happy Birthday 🙂

      • Kate G

        Thank you, Jamie!

    • Happy Birthday!!!

      • Kate G

        Thank you, Doki!

    • Happy birthday, Kate! 🙂

      • Kate G

        Thank you so much, Alex!

    • bronakopdin

      Happy Birthday 😀

    • Sapfo

      Happy birthday Kate! 🙂

  • Klaus

Some time ago… Well, a very long time ago, when the Catholics were modernizing their rituals, someone suggested “Daddy, Sonny and Spooky”. While I guess that this proposal was not entirely in earnest, it looks like this is what they are going to get in the YP-verse. If Sonny can convince Spooky to join them, that is.

    • vessto

I wonder how it will be if we modernize Star Wars universe. Dad and son are known, I see Spooky and Solo and Fluke as Lando.

  • Hours

Spooky said “a” king of hell again, instead of “the”. This makes me thing that there are other factions down there.

Also, what is this “crisis” that’s off-planet?

    SO MANY QUESTIONS.

    • Eight_Rule_Pig

I would really like to think that Lapmros uses the royal we when addressing his subjects. Maybe takes his sugar with a spot of tea. Disinvited Beelzebub from his next ball for being “frightfully common”.

    • Denise Cruz
    • Steven K.

Maybe Hell is ruled by some “royal tribunal” of powerful demonic entities or fallen angels – perhaps each with different powers/abilities and duties and oversights. Is there still a Satan or Lucifer of Hades or Pluto of even higher power or rank that is “chairperson” (chair-SOMETHING) of that body or committee.

    • Librarican
  • Mersharr

Well Fluke, doesn’t that just mean the ODDS are STACKED AGAINST YOU?
Time to crash a car, rip some clothes and really mess up a date by unfortunate chance.

  • TwilightDreamer

Man, the ‘big’ heroes really shouldn’t underestimate these young protectors. Sure, they’re young and lack as much experience and wisdom…but they’re proving to be pretty mature and smart, just the way they contemplate every angle of the situation…their individual personalities and skills really make them a great team.
What’s the ‘crisis’ Fluke spoke of?

    • Klaus
      • TwilightDreamer

        Thankyou ^-^
lol, man I think I’m going to have to re-read from the beginning….my memory stinks! XD

        • Librarican

I also had to track down that reference. It was over a year ago, so I think/hope everyone forgives us.

          • TwilightDreamer

lol, oh it’s ok. Like you said, it was ages back now. Details like that can be hard to keep track of, despite how awesome the story is 🙂

      • joncarllewis

I love the way Anni says “the earth is enough for me” and they both laugh at that.

  • Toli Bera

    AND PROM’S TOMORROW~! D8

    • Kakeyo

This totally made me laugh out loud. xD

      • Toli Bera

        XD time’s tickin!

    • Jamie Dutton

      *cue 80’s style montage*

      • Toli Bera

*Works out, Studies, tries on outfits, time lapses some plants growing, tries on hats*

  • vessto

Enthusiasm vs. The Voice of the Reason. Indeed in the clash between them born the best decisions.

Hm, it seems Mr. Cool Silver and his “sow” planned very capably their plot. They are more clever than I suspected.

Recently I think more and more that Anni and PP are siblings. Silver hairs, similar age. They might be twins as well.

    • Denise Cruz

You know… it’s a really good idea! The best I’ve heard ’till now… They could, indeed, be siblings. (What does it say about their parents, uhn?! u.u)

Anyway, our boys are still forgetting something pretty important, here: Kyle is Mr. Red’s son (as he said before). It probably gives at this team another POWERFUL amount of strength to fight against Anni and PP.

If Spooky combine his powers with Kyle’s, (without forgetting the other guys), they’ll, certainly, defeat those two dumbasses.(the boy has already burned him, remember?! Alone, in hell, hurt and chained to a rock)

None of them, (Anni and PP, not even Laampros), is expecting for this kind of reaction… Anni left Kyle broken and alone in a far place… They won’t believe he goes recover and fight them with all his friends, that quickly…

Man!! It’s going to be a HELL of a fight!! I can’t wait!

(Maybe ‘George’ could shooting it in HD for us… :D)

      • vessto

Wonderful review!!!! I so wish now TYP to be made into movie!

Anni always underestimated Kyle and as you say he won’t ever expect so quick reaction, moreover with the other team. He probably expect Kyle to be as broken that not to share what and why happened. I wanna see his face when the team appears to fight him and PP!!

        • Denise Cruz

          Thanks. 😀
Their expressions are probably going to be the best scene of the month! XD
I wonder if Kyle’ll be able to burn Anni again, even being out of hell’s land…Oh, it’s going to be so great!

          • vessto

I think he’d be able, his force in that moment came from anger imho (hm, is this statement to Star-Wars-ish??)

    • Steven K.

Yeah – I’ve thought that for awhile now.

  • So.. Kyle is it a half-demon, a nephelim or a cambion?… or something I don’t know the name of.
Guess it depends on what Laampros actually is (a demon, fallen angel or more a devil) and how Kyle was conceived/born – which is still unknown.

Now I wonder about Spooky who is ‘using his whole life fighting demons’ and ‘who knows better than anyone’ what it means that Kyle is hell-spawn.

Is Spooky only one of the strong meta-humans, a mutant – an ‘after-human’ who is like the next developement in humanity – or could HE be a child of a nephelim? Which could also explain his high magic powers and knowledge of demons. Hmm, he could also be the child of a demigod?

Various lore say nephilims can either go bad or good, and some lore say that good spirited nephilims often are demon hunters.
I guess in a world where mutants are common, it’s harder now to destinguish and find someone who is ‘else’, something more, but Kyle is different and he surely isn’t the only one. If there’s one there’s often more.

Mutant, wizard and/or nephilim ancestry. The options are all there from what we know of Spooky so far. Right now I find Spooky’s past as intriguing as Kyle’s.

    • Sapfo

Well as the rest of you, I don´t really know what Kyle is. But if Laampros is a king, should he not atleast be a prince. And what better for ours young prince Kyle to do then save the world and the dude in distress. I just wonder how this dude is going to be. 🙂

      • Klaus

One thing I am sure of: he is not going to sit around waiting to be given as a reward in a package with half the kingdom.

        • Sapfo

Oh I really hope not. Dudes/damsels in distress how don´t do anything of their own are boring. And Kyle don´t need a boring dude.
But I do hope for the happily ever after-thing.

          • Adam Black

            I am going to disagree
            Kyle’s a hero.
All men —next to him —are “dudes in distress” .

Kyle needs someone to ground him, not another meta with their own agenda and suoer drama.

he just needs a spell from spooky for safe nooky.

          • PFG9000

Oh Adam, I love the way your think. Love your face. Love you. You know what else I love? That Kyle’s sexuality is no longer an issue.

          • Adam Black

thanks… wait, the blank one or on G+?

yeah, it looks it was never really an issue. Which may not be realistic. It ought to change some dynamics , so its not a mere whitewash. It does in reality.

Been awhile since I saw starry skies without a tardis in it

            http://goo.gl/nJUajM

          • PFG9000

Oh dear.. I have never seen a tardis in the starry sky before…

Oh and any face, Mr. Black. It doesn’t matter.

          • Steven K.

Yeah – that would be very nice and helpful for poor Kyle if he can recover psychologically to be willing to risk having a “next time” with someone – that hopefully should actually HELP him be willing to take such a risk.

          • Adam Black

Sorry @stevenklimecky:disqus I dont think you are boring enough for the job. Maybe after Kyles recovers from all these shocks.

          • Sapfo

Safe nooky is a must have.
But I never said dude would be a meta. Just a guy for Kyle to save (atleast once).

          • Adam Black

I just think Kyle has enough exitement to deal with it, he needs someone more level headed. Kyles issues are enough for two.

          • Sapfo

Yes, but that guy is going to have a hard time to stand out right now
Hot dude vs. save the world from ending.

But I hope for a Amal for him. (but the Amal already have TJ. Hmmm)

    • Librarican

As for Kyle’s birth, an option could be Immaculate Conception style… We already have a history of a God using that method. Although wasn’t Laampros referred to as a demon at some point, or was it just his minions?
Insert reference from Hercules or Despicable Me, your choice. I think either would be easier to fight.

      • Klaus

Immaculate conception does not mean that Maria was not conceived in the usual way, biologically. It means that she was free of original sin.

        • Librarican

Opps, my bad. I always think Of Jesus as being the one immaculately conceptionized bu you are right. Should be virgin birth.

          • Klaus

            Conceptionization is a tricky thing.

    • PFG9000

Kyle’s “racial status” would depend on what his mother was/is. It’s likely she was human or what if she is meta-human? Hmm. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if the Platinum Priestess was his mother (or at the very least has knowledge of who she is/was? How else did she know Kyle could be used)? Though if that were the case I doubt he would have been an orphan. She would have kept such a powerful being close.

It’s likely that if Kyle’s mother were a mere human, she died in childbirth as cambion in lore are known to be very detrimental to the health of the mother.

      • Klaus

PP did not know what Kyle is when she sent him to Hong Kong. She had taken some data, which she needed to analyze to check if he was what Duncan suspected he might be. That does not quite rule her out as his mother. But if so she did not know until recently.

        • PFG9000

Hmm You’re right. There is also the possibility that she knew of his existence and someone (or his mother) took off with him at birth to keep him out of her hands.

      • Steven K.

And it would be totally nasty if Sircea was Kyle’s mother, as she would then be complicit in using her own son for her and Duncan’s evil purposes – and, moreover, totally creepy to think that if Kyle was heterosexual, Sircea would have been the one to seduce him, as Duncan mentions. Also, part of me still thinks that Duncan and Sircea might be siblings – so if Kyle was P.P.’s son, he wold have been cock-kanoodling with his uncle.

        • PFG9000

Ewww yeah well I forgot about that.. Beehhhhheheheeh my skin just crawled over to the corner. I have to go get it.

  • Amanda

And Fluke whips out his Debbie Downer powers!

  • WarGoddess

Yes, everything was timed perfectly……Duncan and Sircea finding a nice hunk of young, gullible, naive demon spawn with a history of bad sexy times, Duncan using his considerable powers of sexiness to woo the poor boy into tangoing with him on his eighteenth birthday, and all while the adult superheroes are off the planet while the diabolical duo work their wicked magic. Sounds like the perfect plan!!! So what, is there a solar eclipse (very powerful), or a planetary alignment (very very very powerful) in their future? I give them credit for working all of this out to happen at the same time. That takes talent. 😀

    • Klaus

And with all this perfect timing, he still says “Nothing has to happen tonight if you are not ready.” That must have been hard.

      • WarGoddess

Yeah, but if you think about it, those were the perfect words to say to Kyle. It shows that Duncan was concerned about his well-being, thereby increasing Kyle’s trust in him. This would’ve made Kyle even more eager to give himself to Duncan, because he was under the impression that Duncan would never hurt him, and that he could never hurt Duncan. Silver words from a silver tongue. 😀

        • Saxon_Brenton

I agree absolutely that those were the right words to use to trick Kyle, for exactly the reasons you state.

I am, however, still undecided about whether Kyle was need to open the portal tonight because the night of his birthday was the *only* time that he could do it, or whether Kyle’s birthday marks the first time that he could be used to open the portal and the villains wanted it done as soon as possible so as to take advantage of the timing of the Crisis.

          • Klaus

I don’t think it is either. Waiting for the birthday was just another step towards making Kyle trust Duncan.

          • Steven K.

I’d say you are probably correct about that.

          • SofiaT

I agree. I have the impression that the birthday was conveniently close time-wise for his plan, but irrelevant to the spell. And I don’t think The Crisis -whatever it is- is something that will only last a day or two, it sounds like something that has been going on for a while.

Duncan used the words that would inspire the most confidence and trust in Kyle, because trust was what he needed. I suspect he was plenty willing to wait if necessary, till he was sure he had it.

      • Steven K.

That evil asshole said all the right things. Very sad they were said only for duplicitous reasons.

    • Sanbai

Ha ha ha… “considerable powers of sexiness”… That SHOULD go on your super-hero profile!

      • WarGoddess

        Yes, definitely. ;D

    • bronakopdin

ha! Well maybe just because they needed time to make all these things happen at the same time they got so old already?!
      That’d be so ironic xD

  • davefragments

I had to go back and look this up.
Duncan admits that even the villains have limits on what sort of villainy they can unleash on underage kids — i.e. those below 18 y/o. Not on;y that, someone has put the word out to back off Kyle, too
    this page: http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-14/
    and this page: http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-15/

THe Annihilator has been planning this seduction for some time.
Whatever magical alignments or conditions are rising, Kyle had the right birthday, the galaxy had the right crisis, and Duncan and Sircea have the right artifact – the keys to the kingdom, to gain immortality and power over the Earth.

    • joncarllewis

All attributable to a wonderful sense of storytelling!

    • Randy Patton

So you don’t think that it’s possible that Duncan wasn’t just telling Kyle that they have “limits on what sort of villainy they can unleash on underage kids” in order to lend strength to his story?

      • davefragments

No, I think Duncan’s constant “i won’t do anything to hurt you” was sincere. He was openly troubled when Laampros fondled Kyle and equally surprised when Laampros revealed his secret. Although, Duncan was also surprised that Kyle could burn him in the other dimension. I’m not sure what that says about their upcoming confrontation.

        • Steven K.

I’m not sure that Duncan heard what Laampros told Kyle. I don’t think we know for certain if Duncan was in a position to hear Laampros speaking to Kyle.

          • davefragments

I went back and looked at the pages of the time in the hell dimension. Laampros kisses Kyle’s forehead after he burns the deal into Duncan’s arm. There is no way that Duncan missed all of that.
            http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-45/
I don’t know if Duncan believes Laampros but he definitely saw all of that before they left the hell dimension.

          • Steven K.

To me, he seemed all huddled over in the distance and preoccupied with his injuries and what just happened to his own skin while Laampros then steps away a fair distance and turns some attentions toward Kyle.

  • Shinashi

    The crisis? What crisis? Whhhhhaaaaaaaatttttt?

    • fujoshifanatic

He’s not being so much a Debbie Downer as trying to present exactly what they’re up against so they can plan the best way to defeat them. Someone has to be the voice of reason and think about worst case scenarios (and how to counteract them) now rather than later when they’re in the thick of battle. I for one think this is a good thing, if not as fun as smart one-liners.

    • fujoshifanatic

If you go back to the conversation Anni and Kyle had at the Chinese restaurant, you’ll know what they’re talking about.

      • Shinashi

Ah, okay, hahaha, I totally forgot.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

A crisis created by the bad guys for just this occasion!

  • DoktorNauk

Is the shot through the window making anyone else think they’re being watched?

    • Ray johnson

      yes by Flyboy, maybe.

      • DoktorNauk

Maybe, either way I have a bad feeling.

  • JozefAL

Alex, I’ve got one minor quibble about Spooky’s “several hours” comment.

Considering the fact that (presumably) “several hours” have already passed since Kyle made his call, it just seems like the “several hours at least” isn’t really something that should be reassuring.

We don’t really know how much time passed between the last page of Chapter 2 and the first story page of Chapter 3. We don’t really know how long Kyle’s call for help actually took, either. The only thing we really know is “57 minutes later” at the bottom of Chapter 3’s third page (and Paul had said it would only take about 45 minutes to get the whole team to Kyle’s location before Kyle freaked at that; of course the need for secrecy can explain the longer time period). But we don’t know how much time lapsed over the next 4 pages before the guys land or how much time lapsed over the next 3 pages (Paul and Spooks’ “debate”) or how much time has passed in the last 11 pages since Paul and Spooky entered the building and found Kyle. But, I’d say there has to have been at least 2 hours since Kyle broke free of his bonds and this page’s events.

I’d guess that the Annihilator and the Platinum Princess had a prearranged meeting place (and, one would presume that she’d sensed when Anni and Kyle got back to Earth and transported herself there at once), so they could already have had their plan(s) in motion for those presumed 2 hours while Kyle’s been getting the guys up to speed.

Sorry for the lengthy nitpick, but, given the fact I watch a fair amount of supernatural-themed programs with their own stories involving ritual magic and planning, Spooky’s time frame doesn’t really reassure me.

    • Klaus

Kyle must have explained what happened before Mitch joined the rescue team. On the 57 minutes later panel, they are already over the mountains, so presumably close to the lover’s nest. It can’t be much more than an hour from Kyle makes the call to page 21.

      • JozefAL

Sorry, but I just don’t think that’s accurate. From the “57 minutes” caption, you had Mitch drop the car and then have to catch it again and everyone to get their bearings again. Then the landing until entering the building was NOT just a few minutes.

And, you overlooked my point about how long it actually took for Kyle to make the call in the first place. The last page of Chapter 2, Kyle’s pretty much all-fetal. He’s just endured a significant emotional trauma and I’m sure he took some time (10 minutes? 30 minutes? an hour?) to try to process the trauma and figure out what he was going to do. After all, Kyle already has emotional conflicts involving, um, sexual gratification and release, and in what he’d hoped would be his first REAL sexual experience with another man, he suffers even MORE emotional pain; I think even the strongest among us would need some time simply trying to figure out WHY it happened–why a man whom we’d dated and who hadn’t been trying to rush to get us in the sack would suddenly turn into the (quite literal in this case) bad guy that everyone had warned us about. Chapter 3 opens with NO mention of how much time has passed.

Again. Spooky’s “several hours” comment seems to overlook the fact that our villains (whom we haven’t seen since the Chapter started) COULD have already set their plans into motion the SECOND that Kyle and the Annihilator returned to Earth. Alex hasn’t really explained how magic works in the Young Protectors Universe, but in most other fiction, rituals can be set into motion and even be interrupted without any significant problems.

I just think more time’s passed than you do. Neither of us is necessarily wrong. I would’ve just liked for Alex to clarify the timeline here.

  • Emie A Eab

Am I the only one who hates Duncan more now that I see how manipulative he truly is?

    • Randy Patton

      I don’t think so.

  • JustStoppingBye

Wow. Whatever is happening off-world must be pretty bad if even the interns had to go too. I mean, who’s answering the phones, picking up the fan mail, doing the filing…?

    • Sanbai

Low-power interns? XD, probably filing now with lugubriously sullen faces…

      • Choreocrat

That poor guy whose power is pretty origami is just stuffing envelopes, and the dust-manipulation guy is on the janitor roster *again*, and don’t get me started about the lady who can speak, type and write three different conversations at the same time… boy, does she feel underappreciated.

        • Well it certainly explains why Spooky is NOT doing his internship with the adult group… screw that!

  • Wow, Alex, Adam and Veronica — thank you for a new page and a shift in feel, in pace, in energy. You three continue to give us something fresh and surprising even though we’ve been a greedy bunch and have had you all on a two page a week schedule. I know how much I appreciate it. So THANKS!

I found it very interesting that the last set of pages have been emotionally intense as the gang helps Kyle find a way out of the sad pit he was in. As I said in my last page note. It was too much, too many, to overwhelming, too much his fault for any 18 year-old, how could it not seem hopeless. These two with their polar styles helped him see it from the outside. I’ll bet some of you are like me… great at helping others with their problems, viewpoint, etc… but when it comes to myself. I can’t see the end of my nose.

So, on the last page Kyle turned a HUGE corner.

This page says it… AND shows it.

I love the way the layout of the panels on this page reflects the dude’s new vibes. The camera angles, the backgrounds, the area all feel subtly different. Showing all three with no visual confusion (that previously was perfectly reflecting Kyle’s emotional confusion). This isn’t intensely intimate as Kyle and Paul was in pages 17 & 18 or as Kyle and Spooky in 19 & 20. In this page we can feel the TEAM in them, and we can see three men beginning to form a unit.

Alex a global compliment — I do love that each of your characters is fully unique to themselves. I’m sure others who have higher degrees in super hero Geekademia can make comparisons to other non-queer outside graphic novel heroes over the years, but I did more reading of geek books than comics… but I feel here within TYP these guys are all THEMSELVES and uniquely so. I really appreciate it.

I think this is true across the board. Spooky with his mix of confidence, expertise and outrageous humor. Paul a man powered up by Lady Luck (I still don’t yet know how to describe his skillz?) but, who is surprisingly mature, emotionally strong, and confident for 17 and (surprising to me) a real practical pragmatist. I know less about the others, but I feel already their uniqueness in every combo. Duncan and Kyle. The Commander and Sircea and all the team members. Everyone is very much themselves. So, plaudits on achieving this with this big cast of characters. Really well done.

Panel#1: I just love that we start on Spooky answering the essential question and doing it framed vertically, long and lean, giving us a great look at how uniquely attractive our Spooky is *suspicious side eyes*. If Alex didn’t work so much in advance, I might imagine I was being given a hard time for teasing about Spooky’s gym attendance. Ahahaha, AW may just be nastily precognizant? Seriously, I’d snatch up that Spooky and hug him and squeeze him and… What a dude! Seriously, too, he owns that look of his. In spite of his loose goofy relaxed vibe, he exudes confidence.” I love his ability to shift from goofy humor to serious professional in a snap. I have no real idea, but I remember (Danish?) someone suggesting that if you are a person who is constantly seeing the “hidden world” and possibly very scary things, he may have learned to develop that sense of humor, rather than become Goth Spooky and sourly wander around in an eternal mystical grump. So the instant switches are perfect and make it clear why he’s a pro. I love his first expression. Focused spooky. Expertise and confidence, but not nervous, scared or immobilized by the size of what they’re considering.

I still want him to be gay. (*sniff*)

P#2: Again loved the CU and the sense of “a team of equals” in the composition. *Okay this is me putting thoughts in heads, but this is what I imagined. Inside, Paul is thinking… ‘Whooo Hooo KYLE IS BACK’ (okay he’s not emotionally ‘done’ forever… how could he be? I remember someone mentioning that trauma is a long-time healing, but I LOVE Kyle’s look and dialog. Our hero is grabbing ahold again. Now the best part, Paul isn’t missing a thing. I see tons of emotion here. There have been a series of shots of Paul quietly watching Kyle like a hawk. I want to think he’s seeing his buddy grab the wheel here… and it’s good!

P#3: Adam and Veronica, compliments on a great expression. During this whole page I get a great feeling of Spooky thinking hard about what the magic will require. I love this look that feels like he’s almost talking to himself as he’s imagining the variables. Just a great panel.

P#4: So great to see them in this triangle down shot through the window. Just another example of where you three picked the route that required a lot more work, but it looks just great. Alex you can tell me if I’m wrong for sure, but I love that you just tie this plot issue up… we will NOT be spending a chapter with an iPad and Google Maps wandering in the desert around looking for Duncan and Sircea. Thank you kindly. *bows in thanks* Oh, and also thanks for that down-shot of both Kyle’s & Paul’s backsides. I’d like to encourage CU’s in these instances, please and thank you. 🙂

P#5: Ahahahahahahah… you must just snort your coffee at some of our comments. I think I was exchanging questions about where the adult groups were with someone a page ago. We were wondering if The Commander would know what’s up the adult groups. And then there is all our speculation about why Duncan mentions the Galactic whatsits in Hong Kong. So, picking this timing was critical for he and Sircea and him mentioning it in Hong Kong was dating talk? Maybe he didn’t intend to mention it at all? I read this panel and felt like I could hear TYP fans round the world yelling, “HA. I knew it!”

*chris stares at computer and wills it to be Wednesday! 🙂 *

Thank you all. This was a very fun page and, after all we’ve been through, it’s shockingly satisfying how nice it feels to see Kyle get his game face back on.

Oh… serious point for this AW comment: “Or will smiles and rainbows continue to spring forth from the dark recesses of his trench coat?” Yes, my husband asked what’s so funny an I had to explain that… there was no way to explain.

Oh, also, I wonder if Mitch is okay outside? I hope nothing has happened to him…………

    • It’s being volleyed back and forth about it possibly being from Mitch’s point of view in the fourth panel. The sneak.

      • That’s a great idea (?) I never thought of it, and since I wrote my notes before reading comments the line about Mitch at the end was just me being silly. But, whoever thought that one up… true or not… good idea!

        • It makes a bit of sense though. Having a shot like that from the outside. And since Mitch’s outside and being 15 and wants to know and make certain Kyle is okay and and and he’s 15!!!!

I mean, *ahem* I would think that would practically be required, especially of a 15 year old who could fly! And I bet he’s really quiet when he wants to be and no one EVER looks up.

          • Yep, I have always wondered why that is always overlooked. Don’t they read or watch movies?

          • We don’t live in a jungle anymore. I mean if we lived amongst the trees, it would be second nature to check amongst the branches I would think.

BUT I could be wrong and the very reason why we don’t live amongst the trees, because we never think to look up.

          • One of the reasons why water travel can be so tricky, they can get you from all directions.

          • Very true. There just isn’t any place that’s safe.

    • Thank you again for another wonderful analysis, Chris. I’m glad you’re feeling that each character is distinct and unique. For me, at least, they are—with their own distinct motivations and individual “internal music” that guides how they are in the world and with each other.

And yes, Spooky backstory. I’m glad to hear you’re interested in that. Stay tuned. 🙂

I do indeed enjoy it when questions are raised in the Comments section that I know will be addressed in just a page or two. It makes me feel like the reveals are happening in the right places.

I’m very glad to hear this page is satisfying for you (and hopefully Kyle’s change here feels earned as well.) And as always, I’m also very glad you like the AlexHumor. I can only imagine what your husband thinks of me and our little world here… I’m glad that he can at least see that we make you laugh. 😉 Maybe someday, when there’s a physical book, you can share all this with him.

    • twenty_fifth_night

I love your analysis on this page, especially Spooky! I also had the impression that Spooks isn’t quite has careless as he’d like us to believe ( my memory is a little hazy, but wasn’t he the only one on the team that was “wanted”, for lack of a better term, on the more legit team?). I always love the characters that could take a position with higher status yet turn it down for personal reasonsor moral convictions.
To say nothing, of course, of how sexy he looks with his oh-so-casual attitude to saving the world in baggy pants and a backwards baseball hat =D.

      • Thanks. And no HAT HAIR… I practically have a WoG that he doesn’t get hat hair in the comments on the last page. That MUST be some powerful magic! 🙂

  • Sai

All the big heroes are off-planet? So does that mean it’s up to a ragtag group of plucky underdogs to save the day? I wonder what’s gonna happen!

All teasing aside this is going to be fun :p

  • Miri

Whoops – accidentally posted this on the previous page, rather than joining the discussion here..!

I suspect that this will be a slightly unpopular suggestion. but I’ve got a little theory growing that Duncan developed genuine feelings for Kyle. I don’t think he expected to, and he sees it as weakness, but as far as I can see, he has only told one outright lie to Kyle: whether or not he set the fire (Ch1, “I did not set the fire” – http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch1-page-25/ and Ch 2, “Actually, yes I did” – http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-31/). Even then… I wanted to go back and check the pages to see the wording. Because setting a fire and starting it are subtly different, and I can’t help wondering if he had initially denied doing one, but had done the other. (For instance, if somebody else set up something highly flammable, and he only lit the match (then maybe ran around for a bit to whip up the flames, before going home to change into his suit), he’d have started it, but he wouldn’t have set it. But by Ch 2, when he knows he has just betrayed the boy’s trust and feels like a heel, knowing full well that he’s about to shatter his heart and do psychological harm to him, the fact that he knows that, were Kyle fully aware of all the facts, in Kyle’s eyes, he’d be responsible for the whole thing, it being part of his plan and all, he may have confessed to it anyway. Either that, or this is the sort of language difference which a Brit would notice, but an American might not? In which case, Duncan is British… :-p )

When Kyle asked him to promise not to screw with him before the date, PP interrupted and he never got back to Kyle on that. He hasn’t ever broken a promise to Kyle.

If (and I agree it’s a big if) everything else that he’s told Kyle may have been misleading, but wasn’t untrue, I’d be very interested in his back story. From what he has said, and with a bit of filling-in-the-gaps…

A shy, quiet kid got picked on at school, and wished he had superpowers so he could teach his bullies a lesson. By the sounds of things, when he grew up, superheroes and villains only existed in comics (and presumably films). When he was around 12 years old, his powers manifested. He learnt that he was suddenly strong, invulnerable to injuries. Kids end up in hospital or dead as a direct consequence of bullying. What’s to say he didn’t discover his powers for the first time when he was on his own, and a big group of kids decided to violently beat him up? Only this time, it didn’t hurt. This time, they couldn’t knock him down. This time, he could stand up, shoved back – and put somebody who had tormented him for years through a wall. He didn’t know what was happening to him, or how long he’d be able to do this, He was still, mentally, a child and didn’t have an adult’s ability to reason about consequences. He was also pumped full of adrenalin and, probably a bit giddy, not entirely sure this wasn’t a dream. So he decided to make the most of it while it lasted – after all, if it was a dream, this’d be the closest he’d ever get to pay-back.

It wasn’t a dream. He almost definitely broke bones; he may well have killed somebody – or multiple somebodies. He wasn’t entirely sure how sorry he was – these people had made his life a living hell for years. Asking him, at the time, when it was pure chance he hadn’t ended up in hospital himself, to empathise with the people he had hurt may well have been far too big an ask. But his family were furious. People wanted to lock him up. From being the victim, he’d become the violent, vicious monster who wasn’t safe to be around “normal” people.

So he ran away. And it turned out, he was really fast. Picking pockets, taking what he wanted from shops? Not an issue. If anybody tried to mess with him, they soon realised they’d made a big mistake. I’d be surprised if people, who saw his strength and speed, that he couldn’t be hurt, etc., didn’t think he was a pawn they could use. He learnt that being strong was all that mattered. Money meant safety and security. Emotions were a sign of weakness.

He only became the Annihilator when he was 26 or 27. Approximately 15 years after he stopped being “normal” and, in his eyes, any chance of a life as a productive member of society ended. I’d be interested to know what he did before then, and what he was known as. It may be that it took until around then for metahumans to become common enough for a super-villain name not to seem incredibly, comic-book-corny. Duncan would not have been OK with people laughing at him behind his back.

Maybe it’s about then that he met up with Sircea. I don’t know if she is his sister – in that case, I suspect that she tracked him down and convinced him to team up. I do think it was the first time in a long time he had a glimpse of normalcy of sorts – an intellectual equal, who wasn’t afraid of him, who he could verbally (and possibly physically) spar with. I’m not surprised they got enthusiastic and robbed a lot of banks (even Fort Knox – I’m more surprised they only robbed it the once 😉 ).

Then, when he was around 52, he started to notice that he was getting weaker. Maybe just fractionally – but it was happening. He was starting to show signs of getting older, of slowing down. He confessed it to the one person who he could admit weakness to (without needing to kill them after), Sircea. She felt it too. He remembered what it was like to be weak. He remembered the disdain he’d felt, rising up criminal ranks to become one of the most feared and notorious super-villains in the world, for the weaker people he’d crushed on his way up. He was scared.

Then a story hit the news – a 12 year old boy had developed superpowers and had burnt his house down in the night, badly injuring his foster sister. Something struck a memory of something he’d read once. This boy… What had happened… He found the ancient passage. He did his research. He thought it was possible… He outlined a plan to Sircea. She put forth objections and arguments – but she was interested. If he was right, this could be the answer to all of their problems.

So he kept a close eye on the boy. For close to 6 years, he tracked the child, watched him grow up, sneered at the child’s efforts to become a superhero… And planned. And then, when the time was right – when the boy stepped into a gay bar and they had confirmation that he was the one who should bait the honey trap, he stepped into an alleyway.

And then, he learnt something. This boy who he’d tracked was nervous and shy and got tongue-tied, but had the courage of his convictions, asked the questions he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear the answers to, and was strong, brave, resourceful and loyal. He respected him. He liked him. He meant it when he said that Kyle was overwhelmingly defined by being good, and that this is incredibly rare. His plan meant that he needed Kyle to trust him. The part of him that had engaged in Robin Hood-type escapades wanted Kyle to trust him – and wanted to be worthy of Kyle’s trust (unless that was part of his long-term planning, when it became clear that Kyle wasn’t going to join the dark side, as a ploy to help impress him).

I would be interested to know what the “threats” he refers to before leaving Kyle are (http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-47/) – I imagine that, even though in light of everything, he wasn’t willing to offer them up as excuses, before the act, he used them to help persuade himself to go through with his plans. His primary motivation was his own fear, and I suspect that the idea of letting down the Platinum Princess would be about as palatable as the idea of ripping off one of his own arms off (slowly) – but while he was painting pictures of what might have been, those threats would have meant that he and Kyle couldn’t have a blissful, peaceful, safe future together. Why pine for something you can never have when you can take fate into your own hands? (Sure, things won’t turn out very well for billions, but most of those billions are faceless strangers. And really, what’s the difference between a billion strangers, and a million, and a hundred thousand, ten thousand, thousand, hundred..? And as he has said – most people aren’t truly innocent – they’re just woefully ignorant. How many not-so-innocent people who ignorantly tried to stand in his way as he hurt/destroyed/killed over the years? Ten, fifty, a hundred? Why, really, should he give up his dreams for ignoramuses?)

    • This is a truly lovely analysis, Miri. A lot of fun for me to read. Very well done. 🙂

      • Miri

Thank you! Does this mean I’ve connected the dots correctly? 😉

I haven’t made up my mind whether or not I think he’ll have a last-minute change of heart and try to back out of the deal with Lampros or not. At this point, I’m leaning towards thinking that it’s very unlikely, unless Kyle will be in direct, life-threatening danger if he doesn’t, in which case, there is a greater-than-lottery-winning-but-still-not-necessarily-likely possibility. Duncan’s too fond of himself to risk certain death lightly; and Lampros is much more likely to incapacitate his new-found son than to kill him, should the team not be able to prevent his passage to Earth. I’m pretty certain that Sircea knows Duncan well enough to realise that, while he was absolutely committed to betraying Kyle, he wasn’t entirely happy about it. The question is, if Kyle poses a threat to her, is she likely to direct potentially lethal force at him, or has she realised that there’s more to Duncan’s feelings for him than lust, amusement and a slight twinge of regret that he couldn’t keep Red Hot as a plaything? I get the impression that she is reasonably intuitive, and she knows Duncan better than anybody else. As a skilled magic user, she will have a great deal of self control, so if she thinks that Duncan truly cares for Kyle, she’s unlikely to kill him because he’s being irritating – unless she thinks that Duncan might grow to care for Kyle more than her, and if she kills the boy now, he’ll be upset but accept that it was an accident. (I do think she cares about Duncan, but I also think, if she thinks she can get away with it and it’s in her best interests, she will manipulate him. Both Sircea and Duncan are rather selfish people – otherwise they couldn’t consider this plan.) Of course, I’m personally of the opinion that Lampros would be within his rights, given what he is, if he decides to construe Duncan failing to save his son as “failing him” – so if Sircea tries to take Kyle out, Duncan’s going down whatever happens!

In a direct standoff between Duncan and Kyle, assuming that Kyle could “flame on” hotter than usual in Lampros’s domain and that this will remain the case, I suspect Duncan will largely ignore Kyle – or if that’s not an option, possibly use words to hurt/embarrass him to try to make him go away of his own accord. Coz emotional pain is a “cold ache” and never gut-wrenching or soul-destroying, according to the world as Duncan insists he sees it… If Kyle is angry enough to try to kill him – and if he’s capable of doing so – Duncan will decide he doesn’t have the luxury of being kind or considerate.

Kyle’s teammates are in serious trouble – even if Duncan would try not to kill/seriously injure Kyle’s best friends as that would hurt him emotionally (unless he doesn’t have another choice which still involves completing the plan), I can’t see Sircea or Lampros seeing it quite that way. Unless maybe Sircea reckons that Spooky’s skills with, and knowledge of, demons could be useful, should Lampros opt for a “I never said *how long* the Americas would be yours for” move…

        • Steven K.

We know that Duncan doesn’t resist doing things that hurt Kyle emotionally.
I did like the idea that:
“Lampros would be within his rights, given what he is, if he decides to
construe Duncan failing to save his son as “failing him” “

          • Miri

I think he tried to classify emotional pain as “not real”, but doesn’t always succeed. And isn’t quite as heartless and cynical as he wants people to believe, so knows he is acting unforgivably.

        • Jamie Dutton

The thing about Sircea is that we just don’t know how she’ll react. Also, I’d bet you anything she saw Kyle’s impact on Duncan coming a mile away. She may well have warned him about the consequences of going through with their plans, especially after Hong Kong.

          • Miri

I definitely think she knew what she was doing when she was teasing him about the charming and delightful child he was going to dinner with! I think I can see her suggesting Duncan think again in order to get him to re-commit himself to the plan, rather than to give him a chance to opt out, even if that’s what it looks like on the surface… But yeah – we don’t really know all that much about her.

        • Choreocrat

I think that the only way Duncan can ‘redeem’ himself (in Kyle’s eyes, as I’m hoping he will), would be to not only realise what he’s done and beg forgiveness, but to actively fight against Laampros and his scheme at his own expense – basically giving up his power to do so. I suspect for storytelling parallelism, though, Kyle has to fight his own demon (literally), while Duncan has to fight off his old partner-in-crime.

    • SofiaT

      “Unpopular suggestion”?
      I don’t know what you’re talking about, I loved reading that 😀

      Thanks for sharing 🙂

      • Miri

        Thank you! 😀

I meant more because it’s somewhat more pro-Duncan than the general vibe in the comments has been for a little bit – I haven’t entirely mentally ruled out a redemption arc for him yet, though I’m not sure how it could happen. I was struck by how little lying he may have actually done (and that PP may have stepped in deliberately to stop him from giving his word, knowing he’d break it), as well as the fact that he really seemed to regret hurting Kyle. Despite everything, I don’t think he’s entirely without principles. I don’t think they’re his guiding light though – if they’re a luxury he can’t readily afford, he’ll ditch them pretty quickly.

        • SofiaT

This is a view I’ve shared before but it gives in just a sentence the essence of who I believe Duncan to be, so I’ll share it again: He’s a bullied Superman without the influence of Jonathan Kent in his life.

That pretty much sums it up 🙂
I really can’t wait for his origin story to be revealed! 😀

          • Miri

Especially brilliant since he dreamt of being the man of steel when he was a child…

Me either! My synopsis initially seems quite well fleshed out (he does actually drop quite a bit of information), but there are loose ends, and things which just don’t quite fit: for instance, why would he be so strongly opposed to lying? (Keeping track of the truth is easier, but carefully worded half-truths, or telling the truth while making people think you’re joking..?) Is the dapper gentleman routine a side effect of having based who he should be on Bond villains, because that’s how he thinks wealthy men should act, a rejection of his life on the streets as a youth, or something else? If my theory is right and he read in an ancient manuscript something about demon-spawn making useful keys for travelling to Hell-dimensions with – and he ran away from home at 12 – when did he learn to read it? Did he manage to forge a new life for himself, complete his education, etc.? Or did PP teach him? I’d really love to learn about those intermediary years! Did he try to become a superhero? Was he rejected too, with an existing criminal history, and with nobody like the Commander to step in and rescue him and give him a place?

I’d also like to know his relationship history. (When he first knew he was gay – if it was before or after his powers manifested. How old he was when he had his first kiss, whether his early relationships were healthy and taught him that he was loveable and could be loving, or not… When he first fell in love. When he *last* fell in love, before Kyle, and what happened…)

          • SofiaT

My theory is that Duncan has his own moral code.

He puts himself first and has a cynical view of the world and himself, but there are things he won’t do.
Where that line can be found, is yet to be seen.

I’ve noticed before that his lies are often hidden truths -the way he worded everything when he was in bed with Kyle for example. He doesn’t lie as much as he deceives. But somehow, I think this is not about his moral code, but his ego. He is a proud man. He takes pride in his strength, his intelligence, his charm. All those things are what constitute his might as a supervillain.

Deceiving with the use of half truths, I feel is more of a game for him than anything else. I don’t think he likes lying because he finds lying to be beneath him. He’ll use it when he has to, but for the most part he’ll dance around it. Much more fun, more of a challenge.

          • Steven K.

Or maybe at some point, before he became a hardened criminal, he tried to join a superhero team to try to get on the right side of things and try to make up for petty-crimes of the past, but was rejected because, in those days, there was still a really strong prejudice against people who were gay – and being gay itself was seen an an evil and a villainy – and no self-accepting gay person could ever be considered for such a “morally upright” position as a member on a superhero team. Then maybe Duncan felt his fate was sealed from then on, since what choice did he have, then, but to play for the “other side”, when the heroes wouldn’t have him?

        • Saxon_Brenton

There’s no harm in examining Duncan’s motives and psychoanalyzing his weaknesses. Alex writes intriguingly complex characters, and it would be a shame not to acknowledge that.

And let’s be fair, Duncan has made himself quite a controversial figure. He had initial popularity during his courtship of Kyle when he had the appearance of being a complicated character who was at least an antihero an possibly a reforming villain. Then came the reveal of the scheme that he and the Priestess were pulling off, and the sheer scale of the betrayal he pulled against Kyle and the nature of the crimes he was willing to enact in order to pay Laampros. Team Pitchfork dates from that time, and I see no reason to disagree with their anger.

Some of us (myself and Sofia included) think that for storytelling reasons Kyle should try to redeem Duncan. Of course, it’s been persuasively argued by Chris that even if Duncan can be won over to the side of good for realz, that any hope of an emotionally healthy romance between them is long past. Whatever the case, emotionally sophisticated character interaction is wanted – and having fellow fans offer their takes on the character’s psyches is a welcome part of that. Thank you for your post.

          • Miri

            That he does 😀

Duncan does deserve our anger – his scheme was diabolical, and even he has acknowledged that Kyle didn’t deserve to be used like that. And poor Kyle is doing better, with his friends’ support and ready acceptance, but he is also rather traumatised, still blaming himself, his ability to trust his emotions and instincts has been damaged… This will be something he carries around for a long time, even if the YP team can save the world.

I would like it if Duncan can ultimately be redeemed, but I think he’d need to redeem himself. And it is very hard to imagine how they could move past this to build a healthy relationship..!

Part of me would like to see a big showdown between Kyle and Duncan in which Kyle shouts his piece, it looks like there’ll be a showdown to the death – and then Duncan just stops, looks him in the eyes and says “You know what? You’re right. Strike me down – I deserve it.” The thing is I can’t work out what Kyle will do if that happens… I don’t think he’d actually kill Duncan – unless one/more of his team mates have perished/are believed to have perished, in which case, maybe. But would Kyle, in the face of real remorse from somebody he was learning to love, be able to lock him up so he can spend the rest of his life in a specially designed, maximum-security prison? (And if he does that, how long will Duncan actually stay put for?)

    • silibub

This is beautiful! I love your take on Duncan’s possible road to villainy, and how it could have laid the foundation for his friendship with Sircea as well as his willingness to plan something so drastic in order to retain his strength. I think you’re dead-on regarding his unexpected affection for Kyle, and I’m sure that despite his skill for rationalizing his awful actions, he genuinely wishes he didn’t have to throw Kyle under the bus for the sake of his plot.

It seems to me that Duncan only gets close to people on rare occasions, and that he doesn’t easily betray those he comes to care about — I doubt he would have spent pages monologuing and justifying his deception of Kyle if he hadn’t felt at least a little bad about it. Since the only two people we’ve seen him care about, Sircea and Kyle, are on such opposite ends of the morality spectrum, it’ll be interesting to see how Duncan’s feelings for Kyle affect his friendship with Sircea. Kyle’s involvement with Duncan will almost certainly test his bond with his teammates, particularly those who aren’t as close to him as Spooky and Paul.

      Thanks for your wonderful analysis!

      • Miri

Thank you! Yes, I’m really interested to see how this pans out. Hadn’t realised how many pages we’d already had – or how long this story’s been unfolding for (I’ve been lurking since the beginning) – and am not sure whether to be sad or happy that means that we’ll be finding out what happens next for rather a long time still, though!

    • Steven K.

If Duncan promised not to hurt Kyle, then he didn’t live up to that, since there are more types of pain than physical, as even he admits. He did actually say that Kyle would always be safe with him – probably, for me, the most bittersweet thing he ever said – and yet he did put Kyle in danger. And what did he mean, then – be safe from what? – Certainly not be safe from being bound and used and abused and betrayed and emotionally and psychological traumatized and left naked and helpless?? I think that anyone would not consider themselves safe if they knew they were about to be subjected to any one of those things. And certainly a person who is actually SUBJECTING someone to any of those things is NOT keeping a person safe. Duncan also tells Kyle that Kyle has very powerful friends (intimating himself). Duncan did not turn out to be his friend by any stretch of the imagination. A friend does not do ANY of those things to the person he is friends with. He certainly lied about being Kyle’s friend as well.

    • Choreocrat

I just had the horrible thought that Sircea might be Kyle’s mother. That would make the ‘Kyle is straight’ plan even creepier.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I love this analysis. It’s fantastic!

  • SofiaT

I’ve been without internet for the past 20 hours and to top it all of, I managed to lock myself out of the house this morning -with no phone or wallet on me. I’m finally back in, 4 hours later…

I see more than 300 comments have amassed while I’ve been away and can’t wait to read them all! XD

    • Welcome back! So you didn’t fall off the end of the earth, this is good. 😛

      • SofiaT

My internet connection fell on a coma last night. Trying to fix it, I killed it dead. 😛
My phone was also running low on data, so the notifications would show up but the comments’ content wouldn’t download. >:(

And this morning, after I locked myself out, with absolutely nothing on me but a Zone 1 ticket, no phone, no wallet, I had to find a way to go to a friend’s place because she has a spare set of my keys -but she lives in Zone 2. And I didn’t have money for a ticket.

Thankfully, the nice guy at the train station gave me a free return ticket when I told him my predicament.

I just made it back home 15 minutes ago.

        • Oi vey! That was some adventure today.

It’s amazing sometimes the kindness of strangers when you least expect it.

Had our car die in the middle of grocery store parking lot several months ago. I was trying to push it out of the way when a lady who worked int he grocery store came over and helped me push and then two men came over seeing the predicament and then help push it the rest of the way. The two men then helped figure out what was up with the car. Turned out one of the battery cables was loose.

          • SofiaT

Apparently, Sydney Trains provides people who had their wallet lost/stolen with tickets, so they can make it home -he issued me with one of those, even though I wasn’t really entitled of one. I had only gone to the train station to ask if they knew of a bus route to where I was trying to go, I didn’t expect to be allowed to use the train!

It helped that half-way through the conversation he realised I’m Greek because, as it turns out, so was he. As he put it, “we take care of our own”.

It made me feel a bit like I’m part of the mob, but I’ve never been happier to be Greek in my life. 🙂

          • Well here’s to being Greek! 😀

          • SofiaT

Heh. Well, since I was in cleaning mode when I locked myself out, I was wearing a pair of jean shorts and a tank top. I have a feeling that might have helped too 😛

          • Heh! Possibly. 😀

          • Choreocrat

Good thing that it’s summer, hunh? All that cleaning in the heatwave at the moment must be gross.

          • SofiaT

It’s not too bad. I get to have cool showers when I’m done 🙂

And all this cleaning is really good exercise, my muscles are getting a good work-out. Plus, the heat means I don’t feel much like eating.

Perfect conditions for losing those 2kgs I gained during the holidays 😀

          • Choreocrat

Ugh… Christmas weight gain during summer! Curse our ridiculous inverted seasonry!

    • Sapfo

That is bad. Being locked out is a commen nightmare, may it not come true here.
Now get a cup of tea and enjoy the reading. 🙂

      • SofiaT

        I think I’ll have lunch first. 🙂
It’s 15.30 and I haven’t had anything to eat since last night.

        • Sapfo

Oh, so your back downunder again. Hope it´s good to be in your home time-zone.
Well, you can have happy reading with lunch then 😉

        • Low blood sugar, missed dings, no keys, and 300 comments. You need an, ‘On Sunday she rested’, sort of dayl

          Best wishes, CD

          • SofiaT

Don’t forget the deep house cleaning, which I finally get to do now that the annoying (and filthy) flatmate is gone.

            No rest for the wicked.

          • Sapfo

            Let´s be bad together. 😉

          • SofiaT

Ha! I cleaned (really cleaned) the kitchen and the bathroom, and finally finished at 9.15pm.
Living room and guest room will have to wait till tomorrow, after work.

But if the flat decided to come alive and clean itself while I sleep, a la Beauty and the Beast (and find a way to use the vacuum cleaner in silent mode), that would be awesome. 😀

          • Sapfo

Double ha! Did not cleaned, but got up four shelves up on the walls (with help from my parents), two blinds in the bedrooms and am almost finished with the laundry (which still refuses to fold itself).

If you get the hang on the self-cleaning flat thing, you should make it into a business concept. 😉

          • Why won’t if fold itself? Laundry needs to learn to fold itself.

          • Sapfo

my clothes are quite new, but I still think that the socks should have learned to stick together

          • Mine aren’t so new, you’d think they know better by now. I guess you just can’t teach old clothes new tricks. -_-

          • I understand! GO TO IT. Clean house with a shovel, an accelerant and a match. Sometimes that is the only answer! Scrub all the unwanted filth out of your being! 🙂 YOU CAN DO IT! Clap if you believe in Sofia!

    • Saxon_Brenton

You’ve also got the warm fuzzy sound of Dings. That’s always nice.

      • SofiaT

        YAY!

    • Steven K.

Hate it when things like that happens. At least you don’t have to worry about being locked out and the temperature is 10 below zero, like around here lately.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Oh no! I’m glad you made it back safely!

  • Becky

Zoomed in to check out Fluke’s butt. Not ashamed.

    • Never… and it’s worth it every single time. LOL.

    • Cman65

Butts rule, and hairy butts are the best LOL

    • vessto

      Fluke is hot.

      • Becky

        No, really? 😛

  • Terri Sutton

Doesn’t Fluke know he is a “good guy” in a Superhero comic? They always win in the end.

  • Cman65

a King not “The King” hell has a lot of kings

  • Sapfo

Ignore me, I am just having a strange theory moment right now. And that´s all.

I wonder if Hell belive in choosing once own partner or arranged marriage? With Laampros being a king he have to keep to traditions. And if arranged marriages is the tradition then I hope he find Kyle a good looking Incubus. Or maybe Laampros can make a deal with the heaven, once the door is open, and snag up a cute Angel for Kyle.
Laampros must think of different alliances he can build with an arragerat marriage for Kyle, but at the same time he must built a better relationship with his son. So why not a marriage between heaven and hell.

Wonder if male angels can get pregnant? o.O

Kyle you better stop this fast or else….

    • EyeDontNo

      LOL!

    • Steven K.

Those are some creatively cute ideas. Is there such a thing as a cute and NICE demon-boy for Kyle? I mean, it’s not the kids’ faults if their parents rebelled against heaven and all that. I like the thought of an angel-lad for Kyle, but I don’t think that angels usually interact THAT closely with humans, or even half-humans, to be a good partner – or to have maybe produced a half-angel offspring with a human that could be good for Kyle. I would think that if such things did happen they’d be rather rare, and the odds of that entity also having romantic tendencies toward the same gender seem like they would be astronomically high. Are gay offspring among non-human entity populations produced at the same 10% rate that it seems to be the case in human populations?

      • Sapfo

There are a lot of demons in hell, so there should be at least one good/nice demon for Kyle. Or if it is to be an Angel… well how would say no to Kyle.
The only problem with this theori: What does Kyle want?
        Demon, Angel or Normal Dude?

Right now I think he wants to either turn back time, or alternative save it!

        • Steven K.

I think that, when Kyle recovers emotionally and psychologically from this latest trauma, Kyle would go for the almost normal dude category – he’d still need to find someone who is just abnormal enough to be fireproof.

        • Jakk Anthony Guzman

I think Kyle would want a nice guy who is also fireproof.

          • Steven K.

Exactly. Or maybe, with some more time in some additional abandoned warehouses for “practice”, Kyle can learn to control his powers when he’s achieving an erotic climax. If he learns to control things so that he doesn’t spontaneously flame on when that happens, then he and Mitch can fall in love and eventually have happy times together once Mitch becomes legal. Think what a hot graphic it would be that shows them making out (or more) while they are flying through the air nekkid together.

          • b3nc0

But, like Flame Princess in Adventure Time, he would find ways, wouldn’t he?

BTW, the all happiness-override thingie kinda reminds me some events in Demon-Realm Prince’s earthly life ¬¸¬

      • Choreocrat

There’s the twist – half-demon offspring are all gay, because there’s less chance of them reproducing further and putting too much demonic DNA in the human gene pool.

  • fujoshifanatic

Yay! another whole month of double updates! It is such a credit to you, Alex, and your professionalism in being so consistent with updating this comic (with no loss in quality no less!) that you get the kind of support that you do. If only other comics were so consistent, but I am thankful that one of my very favorites is. 🙂

    • Thank you, fujoshifanatic. I’ve discovered it is actually a lot more work to do 2 pages of updates a week on a consistent basis with this kind of art quality than I could have ever imagined—it’s close to a full-time job in terms of hours—so I have total empathy for other creators when things get in their way of consistent updates.

But it is a high priority for us to deliver high-quality updates on time to y’all and your support, insightful commentary and reactions and enthusiasm make all the hard work totally worth it. I’m glad that you feel it’s worth the effort too. The generosity of y’all continues to bowl us all over and makes us feel to honored and lucky to have such awesome readers. 🙂

Talk about the eye of God.

  • Vinny Gothika

Well it seems they have been planning this for a while after all…..I wonder how the Platinum Priestess fit that in with her nail appointments and hair appointments lol

    • joncarllewis

      She does have fabulous hair.

    • silibub

Effective time management must be one of her powers.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Very nice!

Also, are you feeling any better?

      • Yes thank you. No longer ANY sore spots. Though I have been sleeping more. Lots of naps.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Glad to hear it! <3

  • IamM

Also if she was his mother that would’ve taken the guess work out of the nature of Kyle’s powers. She wouldn’t have had to do the magical scan before the Hong Kong date.

  • SpookyDomme

Whoa. Spooky has some Trenchcoat Brigade stuff going on there. This is excellent.

  • I think I’ve fallen in love …

    … with Spooky’s coat.

    • LOL….I know right?

      • It is utterly awesome. Why doesn’t my coat curl like that? Oh, yeah, because my coat is a ratty old raincoat.

        TRiG.

        • Well, it does belong to Spooky, and Spooks is known for playing with magic AND trying to impress the ladies. ^_^ So some of that Spooky magic has probably soaked into his coat which imbibes it with the ability to always be flattering on him. ^_^ It can never not be cool.

          • Denise Cruz

I couldn’t have explained it any better!
            Great work, Doki! 😉

          • I have my moments, but….. *looks around then leans in and whispers* if we are not careful Chris will show up and type up an essay on the magnificence of Spooky’s coat. Which will then devolve into a love letter to Spooky. ^_^

          • Denise Cruz

XDDDD Something gives me the feeling that he knows what we’re talking about… *looking over her own shoulders*

          • Dear Spooky’s coat: …………………… (LOL)

          • *tries to look innocent* Oh! Hi Chris! So, uh, what have you been up to lately?

          • Author, Simon R. Green, has a world called The Nightside (kind of a dark macabre version of London) and a PI character named John Taylor — who is a lot like Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden character.

Taylor has a trench coat of similar type…

I remember one book where he hands it to a butler (or something) thinking, (paraphrase) “I wasn’t worried about the coat. It could take care of itself itself. Although it hadn’t eaten anyone in quite a long time.”

          • I bought several of those books for my dad, he never said that the trench coat would eat people. I may now have to go find them. Cause I mean, a trench coat that would eat people, THAT’S AWESOME!!

          • It’s a minor mention in one of MANY books. 🙂

          • Still… a man eating trench coat

  • devil_woman_24

    OMG the story is going to great!! I hope at the end Ducan/The Annihilator ends up with Kyle ;a;

  • Ellen Harman

“They couldn’t of time it better.” What if the so called crisis was set up or staged by them in the first place? They not only get the best heroes out of the way but any completion as well.
They divided the world between themselves and Laampros so what happens when everyone else returns from this so called crisis? Of course it won’t be a problem since Kyle will have taken care of everything. They really should have thought about this a bit more. Demon spawn and with fire power. Once he really gives in and starts actually using his full powers they will be in trouble.
I think Kyle has been holding back, all we have seen him do is absorb some fire. Shouldn’t he have been able to control the fire? I wonder if his power is on par with Johnny Storm or Sunspot? Both characters have fire based power than they have to control since they have the ability at full power of destroying the Earth. I wonder if Kyle’s bad experience didn’t keep him from fully using or training his abilities.

  • Okay, I know on the last page we were discussing the coloring of Spooky’s hair, blue/teal etc and lighting possibly affecting it. So what are we thinking on this page where that coloring is fading out and possibly completely gone in the last panel? Because in that last panel that just looks like normal light reflections on black hair, with no alternate coloring.

    • Ellen Harman

      Lack of a light source?

      • Well, some were saying it was from Spooky’s Lantern. Did his lantern go out?

  • Oh good, I made it 🙂
I’ve been tripping for the last 30mins because I had no internet. I feared it was gonna last 30mins longer – message from internet supplyer that the power could be gone between 1-6am (it’s now 5.30).

Has something been wrong with Disqus or is camping just really silent today?
I had to check if it was the right morning xD I could have been wrong in the busy haze my last days have been.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I got here just a little bit ago, and I think it’s just really quiet, but I couldn’t say for certain.

      • EXTREMELY QUIET. I kept repeatedly checking the calender to make sure that it was indeed camping day. It has been so quiet…

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Want some s’mores?

          • Yes please. ^_^

          • stickfigurefairytales

*passes you two on a paper plate*

          • *takes plate* Thank you!

          • Oh you two… sugar is NOT the answer to the Galactic Whatsits… or the interns would have stayed back and made snacks!

          • Hunny, right now I am still in the “there is no such thing as too much chocolate” place, and will probably be there for another couple of days.

          • Is that code for referring to the evil hormone fairy? (asks the gay man)

          • ….You could say that, don’t think I have heard it called that before though….kind of like it

          • That comes from my lesbian friend in Melbourne… she also describes it like the end of the world in THOR THE DARK WORLD… all the planets align and it’s BAD.

I stay quiet during the alignment…

          • … and even worse, it seem like several here are starting to syncronize.

Now THAT is something that should make you run if anything :-p

          • OMG… I’ve heard of housemates and office-mates synchronizing, but never an on-line group. I think we’ve taken the terror up a notch!!!!!!!

          • stickfigurefairytales

It is our hive mind through which the collective will achieve dominion. Resistance is futile.

          • We are truly scary, aren’t we?

          • The laugh I just made.. a mix of giggling and cackling.
Must be my wicked laugh *ahem*

          • Baba Yaga would be so proud!

          • Steven K.

That’s a nice Eastern European folk reference. Been a while since I’ve thought about her – used to read stories when I was a kid.

          • stickfigurefairytales

You kids get off my chicken-house lawn! (And into my stewpot.)

          • Oh yes…they should start running

          • Steven K.

**OLD** SNL Sketch (as nearly as I can remember it):
Mrs. Loopner: “Lisa, do you need some Midol?”
Lisa Loopner” “Well, I’ve got the curse if that’s what you mean!”
Mrs. Loopner: “Well, Lisa, it is a curse, but it’s also a blessing. It’s a curse AND a blessing!”

          • stickfigurefairytales

            I can’t hear you…the s’mores are too delicious.

      • Oki, sadly I haven’t been around much in the last week’s time so I have messages I can read to catch up a little 🙂
I’ve basicly only had time for a short comment on Teahouse here and there in the last days.

        • stickfigurefairytales

Well, glad you could make it tonight! (or this morning/afternoon/whatever time it is locally)

    • Quiet mostly I think.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Hi AJ!

        • Hi Sticky!

          • Indeed hello to all you troublemakers… I’m here to balance out the estrogen flood so relax… all is well. LOL!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Welcome, Chris!

          • Thenk yew!

          • HA!

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’m handing out s’mores if you’d like some.

          • Always!!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Here you go! *passes some over*

          • NOM! Thanks!

      • *lol* With the usual bunch around I must say that I find this happening very surprising 😉

        • stickfigurefairytales

It looks like things are picking up now, though! 🙂

        • I know! I kept checking and checking. I think maybe up until now there were 18 posts. (I get all the emails)

  • Sapfo

    Good morning!
Seems like a quiet camping today.
Almost awake now. So maybe I´m just sleeping and camping is not for some time. How knows? o.O

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Good morning to you!

    • Morning!

    • Morning Sapfo!!!!!!!

    • Oh no it’s the virgin snatcher… RUN EVERYONE RUNNNNNN!!!!

      (good morning)

      • And you don’t feel safe from a virgin snatcher? o.O

..and good morning to both of you 😉

      • Sapfo

But Chris, You are not a virgin? o.O

        Good morning! ^_^

        • No indeed… I guess I have no need to run. 🙂

          • Sapfo

            That´s right.
You just sit down and relax and leave virginity to me.
            ^_^

          • *side eyes*
something wrong with that plan……… hmmmmmm….

          • Steven K.

Doesn’t mean he can’t snatch one though. They seem to go predominantly to females – it’s not fair. But I’m not into virgin-snatching – I prefer them to come willingly.

      • Steven K.

Why should you run – you are hardly of the proper “status” to worry about getting snatched. 😉

  • stickfigurefairytales

Hey, since telling spooky stories is often a traditional camping pastime, does that mean that we can tell any story that features Spooky?

    • stickfigurefairytales

All right, then, let’s get this thing going! I’ll start us off:

Spooky sank down onto the bench in the locker room with a heartfelt sigh. That had been a *much* longer fight than usual these days. Now all he wanted was a long, hot shower…

      • stickfigurefairytales

Opening his locker door (which tended to stick unless you kicked it in just the right place), Spooky hung up his trench coat and hat. He ran his fingers through his sweaty shock of hair, then pulled the hoodie over his head.

        • Oh move it along… we’re staring at his penis NOT at his hair… Let’s talk Spooky penis… What… Wait… (was that in my out loud voice?)

          • stickfigurefairytales

Have you never heard of…savoring the moment?

          • Well sure but thats when the Spooky penis is home in my bed… we’re in a locker room right now worrying about his hair and a hoodie…..

          • stickfigurefairytales

Once he’d toed off his shoes, Spooky left the rest of his clothes in a heap to dump into laundry later. He padded into the showers and turned the water on full blast.

          • Shower scene >.> ..you attempt to distract me with a shower scene, don’t you?

            (Very good chance of success)

          • Yeah… no kidding… but if The Commander wanders in… I’m out of here in a huff!

          • LOL.. while there’s still a wet, naked Spooky around?
            I’m not going anywhere!

          • And Danish sure loves her wet, naked men. Water running down Spooky’s chest…about to be “enhanced” by Mitch’s soap.

          • Danish you have revealed too much!

          • Mmmm.. with the scenarios given, I’d say not enough have been revealed yet 😉
            MORE, I WANT MORE!

          • Ahahahahahaha… she’s so shy…

          • stickfigurefairytales

            (Writing is hard!)

          • True, dat…but so worthwhile especially with this scenario.

          • Sounds like things are about to get harder 😉

          • stickfigurefairytales

            HA!

          • What “Stick” said!

          • I know you have to keep track of name names and super names and all kinds of stuff. I’ve forgotten Tsunami’s name also…….

          • I am not sure it has ever been mentioned.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I wasn’t sure either, and I’m too busy writing this to go back and check the interlude.

          • When Alex pulls the huge Spooky is gay switcheroo on you all… well don’t say I didn’t warn you…

          • Hey! I’ve already told you that IF it turns out to be the case with gay, bi, pan .. heteroflexible.. whatever.. I’ll go with that. I still get to watch 😉

          • Tricky female!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            (Hee hee hee.)

          • stickfigurefairytales

*Gods*, that felt good. Spooky moaned as the spray pounded against the knotted muscles in his back. He could never thank Amanda enough for making sure the bathrooms at headquarters had decent water pressure.

          • Cheap Commander ref……… I’m appalled.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hey, she’s in charge, she gets the credit, pal!

          • Oh FINE as she lives off the efforts of these young men… appalling I tells ya. I haven’t seen such abuse of the young since certain people were turned into taxi’s to hell…. humph.

Fine, just another example of women living off the hard work of….

*chris look around carefully and sees all the estrogen.*

Erm… never mind… let’s just cancel this comment.

          • silibub

Hey Sircea, are you hearing what Chris is–oh, never mind.

          • I’ve seen that picture of Kyle in her magic bird bath… I’m scared… you don’t have to spell it out. LOL

          • stickfigurefairytales

Spooky reached for the shower gel, only to swear as he remembered he’d run out the other day.

Then someone thrust a bottle under his nose. “Here. You can borrow some of mine.”

Spooky opened his eyes. “Thanks, Mitch,” he grinned.

          • davefragments

            He’ll even wash his back

          • stickfigurefairytales

            (Damn straight. Or rather, not.)

          • HA!

          • Damn, doesn this mean now it has to stay PG-rated?
            Underaged in the room 😉

          • stickfigurefairytales

(Hmm, good point. Maybe it’s set a couple of years in the future?)

          • ^_^

          • Adam Black

            that’s only with Villains.
Age of consent must be 15 in this universe for Heroes

          • Prolly true.

          • stickfigurefairytales

He squeezed out a generous handful and began lathering his skin. But as he reached for his back Spooky winced. He must have pulled something when he’d dodged that brick wall.

            Mitch, of course, noticed.

“Shit, man, you okay?” he asked.

Spooky nodded. “Yeah. It’s just a twinge.”

Mitch looked skeptical. He was familiar with some of his teammates’ tendency to play down injuries.

Just then Paul came into the showers.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Mitch promptly told on him. Honestly, why could that boy never hold out when Paul gave him that stern look of teammateness. Teammate-itude? Eh.

But Paul insisted that he and Mitch be allowed to soap Spooky’s back for him.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Mitch’s touch was light, almost tentative against his shoulders. Paul’s hands, meanwhile, were gentle but sure, rubbing broad circles across Spooky’s back. Spooky found himself arching into the caresses like a cat being stroked.

          • Young Super Hero double massage…under hot water. Getting a little warm here…

          • stickfigurefairytales

(Should I add in anyone else at this point? I feel kind of bad leaving Kyle and Tsunami out – crap, I forgot Tsunami’s real name – but the logistics are going to get trickier if I do bring them in.)

          • I would have preferred Kyle over Paul, but a guess Chris deserves a treat for putting up with us. ^_^

          • Humph…. it’s a twelve hour shower already. 🙂

          • It’s fine now.. move it along, I have to leave in 30mins.
Right now I’m waiting for both this and the page xD

          • Steven K.

Hmmm ..yeah – Kyle’s never gonna get any decent loving, is he? Oh – I forgot – this is just a fantasy – as I said, back in the “real world” we know that Mitch is still saving himself for Kyle, no matter what happens.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’ve decided that in this fic Kyle and Tsunami are off having sexytimes of their own. 😉

          • stickfigurefairytales

And Amanda is off with her own boyfriend, girlfriend, or whomever she pleases. Maybe both.

          • I vote both. The woman can break boys in half, remember?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Agreed.

          • SK… dude by the time Mitch is ready, Kyle will have been living with Paul or Spooky for three years… I don’t think that’s fair to Mitch. Next graphic novel Mitch will get to go to hell and then save the day… Promise!

          • Steven K.

Man – you ARE holding out for Spooky and/or Paul to be queer. I think it’s going to take that long for Kyle to even feel psychologically and emotionally and physically comfortable trying to get off with someone again. And if he can’t find anyone else who is fireproof, it might take him awhile to be able to control his powers enough while he is having his erotic finale.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Then a hand squeezed his ass. Spooky opened his eyes – when had he closed them? – and to his surprise, found Mitch giving him a little grin.

            “Problem, man?” he asked.

            Spooky blinked. “Hell no.”

          • HeyyyyyyyOOOOOOOO …. I’m back.

          • Hell YES!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Paul’s arms wrapped around his chest as Spooky’s other teammates pressed up behind him.

            “Is this okay, too?”

Spooky smirked and turned his head enough to capture Paul’s lips with his. That oughta be reply enough.

          • And Chris is sent to Chris Heaven

          • Amen!

          • stickfigurefairytales

[Brief disclaimer: Outside of magical porn land, shower gel does not make a good choice for lube. Also, the boys should really be using condoms. Thank you.]

Holy seven-layer cakes of hell, Paul was good with his hands, Spooky thought distantly. He’d accidentally bit down harder than he’d meant to on Mitch’s neck when that first finger breached his entrance. But Mitch seemed to enjoy it if the strangled moan he’d given was any indication.

Spooky continued trailing a mix of kisses and nips up and down Mitch’s throat. He’d pinned his younger teammate’s shoulders against the tiled wall and promptly set about enjoying the feast he had in front of him.

Not to mention behind him, Spooky noted as Paul squeezed more gel onto his fingers.

          • stickfigurefairytales

“Seriously?” Spooky got out, though his voice was nowhere near as steady as he’d like. “I thought we talked about me not being an exclusive bottom.”

          • stickfigurefairytales

“We’ll switch next time,” Paul promised. His voice had deepened to the husky rasp that gave Spooky an almost Pavlovian boner any time he heard it.

Feeling that he was being a little ignored, Mitch tilted his hips forward to meet Spooky’s and slipped a hand between them.

          • Pavlovian boner…absolute genius, Sticky!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hee hee, thanks! I was particularly proud of that bit!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Paul handed over the shower gel after generously coating his own erection, and Mitch squeezed out a dripping handful. Then he wrapped his hand around Spooky’s cock along with his own and began leisurely pumping.

Paul, meanwhile, carefully pressed into Spooky’s ass. He paused, panting, as soon as his cock’s head had breached his friend’s entrance, waiting for Spooky to adjust. When Spooky broke off his kiss with Mitch to demand that Paul hurry up and fuck him, he moved forward again.

          • Wow. This is the first time I’ve wanted to come back to the previous page. Enjoying this little “interlude” immensely.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Aw, thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the end!

          • Well, you could have left Paul out, but it was very enjoyable. ^_^

          • stickfigurefairytales

But I love Paul! (I’m glad you liked it, though. ^_^ )

          • It’s okay, I am well aware I am one of the very few that isn’t a fan of Paul.

          • stickfigurefairytales

You know what I bet would totally convince you? Me saying his name over and over a zillion times. Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul Paul … Sorry, I’ll stop now.

          • Lol, nice try, but he isn’t really my type and I just don’t really like him that much.

          • stickfigurefairytales

That’s cool. To each their own.

          • Yep. ^_^

          • A Happy Ending! Loved it.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Thank you! <3

          • stickfigurefairytales

Soon he was pistoning forward and back as Mitch stroked in counter-tempo. Spooky was out of his mind with bliss. The overload of sensations somehow kept building higher and higher, pleasure coiling tighter and tighter inside him until with a loud shout he came.

Paul was quick to follow as Spooky convulsively clenched around him, and Mitch – who had frankly impressive lasting power for his age – finished off as Spooky’s hand joined his and Paul leaned forward for a kiss.

The three of them leaned against each other to keep from collapsing, legs shaky and hands suddenly clumsy. Paul carefully pulled out and helped his teammates rinse off the mess of cum and shower gel that seemed to have gotten everywhere.

As Spooky picked up the bottle to hand it back to Mitch, he frowned and shook it.

“I think we just finished the last of it.”

He looked up at Paul and tossed his friend a towel.

“It’s your turn to bring it next time.”

            The End

          • Oh-la-laah~ I just came home, and of course I had to go back and read the end. I had to leave just as it got really hot xD
I need to copy your comments or something like that. This story can NOT be allowed to get lost in the comments section. It’s a keeper!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hee hee! Aw, thanks! I was pretty pleased with this for spur-of-the-moment writing.

          • Okay now i think I am gone, Spooky likes to bite and Mitch liked to be bitten……yeah….ummm…..bbl

          • Steven K.

Ummmm ….has Mitch reached legal age to be sharing in potentially romantic/erotic shower scenes yet? But wherever your fantasy might be leading, I’m sure that, in “reality”, he is saving himself for Kyle. Is he using the vanilla pear or the honey apricot shower gel?

          • Yup, yup.. it’s now a couple years into the future to allow it 🙂

          • Yup, yup, yup…. ahahahahahaha

          • We are the BEST time travelers in that way.

          • stickfigurefairytales

(I have decided that he has, yes.)

          • Steven K.

In early in this last season of “Supernatural”, I think after Metatron dumps the other angels out of heaven and they’ve fallen to earth, and Castiel is starting to live as a human, he (Castiel) makes a comment about the things that one appreciates as a human – one of them being good water pressure.

          • Yes, never underestimate the power of good water pressure.

          • I am blessed with excellent, pounding-pockmarks-into-your-skin water pressure.

          • I hate you. (Not really, but you know what I mean)

          • Awww…. bless………

          • Steven K.

I wonder if the penis has a “hoodie”.

          • Adam Black

            better stay out of Florida..
            ( too soon ? )

          • HA!

          • Mitch is coming into the scene soon right?

            *suffering from lack of Mitch*

          • stickfigurefairytales

I shall grant your wish, then, my dear!

  • Sapfo

Now it is a count down for me!
    15.00
    14.59
    14.58
    14.57
    ….

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Eep!

    • In my case, add an hour and it fits. Good thing I had my meeting time moved 10mins so I can sit here 30mins longer on campings 🙂

Gives just a little longer time.

      • Sapfo

I hope my boss not mind me working in pj…. ;P

        • I like that you have the right priorities! Yayyyy.

          • Sapfo

            4 minutes to go.

Whatever the case is with my priorities, I will not leave my home without brush my teeth. There is a line there 😉

        • Currently I’m in a t-shirt and wrapped in a thick blanket. It would be rather cold to go outside, but it would be fast to switch to work uniform.
The stares I’d get in the bus though. Might not make it to work until someone called the cops – thinking I was lost from somewhere 😉

In the first 15/20 minutes of SHAUN OF THE DEAD the living who are going to work, riding the bus and doing all the mundane boring things of life look more like the zombies than the zombies.

They are living lives of utter boredom with blank stares and open mouths and nothing but emptiness in their minds…

    • Erm…. ummm… so your point is that Laampros is just going to liven our drab human lives up?

      • davefragments

My point was nothing to do with TYP. It was idle chit-chat.

        • Cool so not a point, but more of a …. urm… chat thing… got it.

    • silibub

Heh, I always liked that unspoken bit of commentary in that movie.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Such a good movie.

      • silibub

I kind of have the urge to watch it now…but do I dare attempt to excavate it from the DVD drawer? Hmm.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          DVD drawer? That sounds daunting.

          • silibub

It’s inconvenient, definitely, but I ran out of space on my shelves.

          • There is an iPhone Ap that I just discovered, called FILM, that allows you to barscan your DVD and it puts them in an dbase you can easily access and see all into about them and if you have that DVD. You can also note if you loan it.

            S’cool…..

          • silibub

Whoa, that sounds amazing. I’ll have to look into it!

          • davefragments

I have SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS in the machine to watch. I haven’t had the urge.

          • silibub

Jeez, one psychopath sounds like enough. (hyuk hyuk)

          • On new page night? How redundant. I understand.

  • Not sure if my head is hurting and I should take something for it, or I am tired because I wasn’t able to nap earlier. Yes, my head hurts when I get tired.

    • Sorry your head is hurting but are you feeling better since your fall? Sorry if you’ve mentioned this earlier.

      • Yeah, all better now. No more sore spots. I have, however, been napping more than usual since I hit my head.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm, are you planning to go to sleep soon as it is?

      • Cannot decide, it would be much better if I could tell which kind of headache it is.

        • stickfigurefairytales

Very true. I hope you feel better, honey!

  • *looks at clock*
    Uhm, Alex, are you here?

    *pokes at screen*
Will I get the page before leaving or will I have something to look forward to in about 11-12 hours?

    • I’m here. 🙂 Vero is putting on the last touches for the colors.

I expect the page to be up in 10 minutes or so.

      • Yay!

      • I might just make it then 🙂

        • I’ve been crazy busy today so I haven’t been able to follow the comments, but have I been seeing sexy shower fan-fiction popping up down below? 😀

          • Yes~

still can’t wait to find out what this big “Crisis” is, feels like some “Crisis on Infinite Earths” thing like paper comics do every once in a while to ret-con various things.
