    idsafjölk

I dont remember the word I was using before but this have to do.
This is one idsafjölk new page.

That is a good question. Can they Alex?

    • b3nc0

You got me for I was too polite & announced it on the previous page!

      • Sapfo

And I was polite and got the virgin before someone else took it 😉

        • So very polite! 😀

        • Holly

AJ and i were discussing how no one reminded me the day of the week. *pouts* appease me with cookies.

          • Mint brownie Holly love?

          • Holly

ooo *noms* Thank you Doki! how are you? What do you think of the page?

          • You are welcome sweetie. Hmmm, I think I am going to wait to post that until after I wake up later today. I should probably avoid making a comment while still cramping. ^_^

          • Holly

            Cramping?! OH NO

          • Yep. Though luckily I only have to make it through the one day at the start.

          • Holly

How bad is it? I mean for me it’s either one day or two days, but the first day is always like death. I mean it’s either a PILE of ibuprofen or a T3.

          • I can deal without taking anything, as I proved last month, but I prefer having something that takes the edge off. If I have nothing to take just leave a bunch of chocolate outside my door and back away.

          • Holly

OH yeah, no i cannot deal without something. I would like to say that I had gallbladder surgery and didn’t need pain killers as bad, but lucky girl that I am I started like the day after my surgery.

          • Oh hunny, you poor thing!

          • Holly

Yeah, but oh well. I hear girls who have rough cramps don’t have that hard a time when they have a kid for some reason.

I will just be happy when I am done for the month. 😛

          • Yeah, my sister had them so bad that she spent almost the whole time curled up in her bed. Turns out she had cysts on her ovaries which made them really bad. They are much better now that she has had a kid, though I think she liked the 9 months without them at all more. ^_^

          • Holly

everyone tells me that too. That after you have a kid they are less bad for some reason. I swear in my darkest moments, I’m like “UGH I SHOULD JUST GET PREGNANT” thankfully that horrible idea leaves when the cramps do. haha.

          • lol. i love kids, but I love them because they aren’t mine. ^_^ I have long realized that having kids would not be a good idea for me. ^_^ I am perfectly happy in my role of Crazy Aunt.

          • Holly

My brother feels the same way about being the crazy uncle.

personally I do want kids. I just want to be older, and married, with a house, and a career.

Compared to 25, single, renting an apartment, unemployed, and only halfway(?) done school. XP

          • …..How old is your brother and is he single?

Yeah, those things are always a plus. ^_^

            Good luck with your school!

          • Holly

            27 and yes..

          • Sorry, that was really mostly just a reflex question. You know, the ones that are half serious and half joking?

I really need to hang out with people outside of the computer more. ^_^

          • Holly

I feel the same yes. I need to learn how to talk to the male people like a normal person and lead it toward dinner time.

          • lol. I think part of my problem is that I am the one getting friend zoned. I am better at getting male friends than female friends. Though that might be because I am really good at being “one of the guys”.

          • Holly

hahah friends. I do not make friends. Pretty much any friend I have started out as being in drama with me OR is the friend of a friend .Actually i have a large group of people in my life who I am unsure if they are MY friends or just friends of my friends. And it’s not something you can really ask, is it?

          • I will be your friend if you will be mine. ^_^ Though just to warn you, I am not the easiest person to get along with. ^_^

          • Holly

I thought we were already friends Doki :O

          • Semantics….

I just thought this way you wouldn’t have to ask or ponder. 😛 😉 ^_^

Though I have the problem of thinking of people as my friends when they don’t see things that way. This way things are clear on both sides. ^_^

          • Holly

Yeah see that is my problem too. I think someone is my friend and they are like “What? No, I mean we hang out but, no.”

          • Steven K.

Yeah – my next reflex to have added on there would be “Is he gay?” 😉

          • Sapfo

            I´m sorry? o.O
Would you like a cookie? ^_^

      • b3nc0

Interesting, for Disqus, this post is older than my first one.
        ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

        • Sapfo

Only you Disqus can do something like that. 😀

  • mogoskier

damn it paul don’t ruin the moment

  • That’s the answer.. and a very good question.

… and I just woke up to this awesome page 😀

    • Sapfo

      Good morning wolfie! ^_^

      • Morning 🙂 So.. had I just got my ass out of bed like 30secs earlier *lol* but it was so damn comfy and warm. The snooze button is dangerous.

        • Sapfo

I think Laampros rules over all the snooze buttons. So I be carefull with the use of one 😉

    • b3nc0

      Hallo!
here, some speculoos left, they’re great with morning coffee, too

      • Thank you 😀 Was just scanning the last comments on previous page and all the food sounds yummy.

    • Morning Danish!!!! Here have a mint brownie. You can eat it with breakfast or choose to eat it as a snack later. ^_^

    • Morning Danish!

  • Way to ruin the moment Paul……way to ruin the moment.

    • Klaus

To the contrary. I don’t think he could have said anything better.

  • b3nc0

I see some smug here, now let me read it, please!

    • Saxon_Brenton

Yes, my first thought about panel 4: Spooky’s radiating smug.
(Not that it he doesn’t have *reason*, of course…)

  • silibub

I like Paul’s pragmatism! Although Spooky looking pleased with himself is always entertaining.

  • SofiaT

Ha! I read Spooky’s line and I’m thinking “that’s the million dollar question”. And then I move further down to read Alex’s commentary and I realise I’m not very original in my way of thinking. XD

    • Sapfo

We are all of us thinkning of this. 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

Spooky: Ha! That’s what I *thought*!

    • Sapfo

Not to early for me. I am about to run out the door in 5 minutes.
So thank you Alex for this early page ^_^

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Yaaay!

      • You’re welcome, Sapfo! Have fun today! 🙂

  • Simba

yaaay, I made it… Sleep time now… Zzzzz

    • b3nc0

      B-bye.
      Sounds tempting…

  • Sapfo

But Kyle! I thougth you where going to say: “I would make cookies for all of the commentors”
Oh well this is the seconed best thing you could have said.

    • b3nc0

      The 3d!
The second being “Hmm, I haven’t been naked for a couple of pages now, gotta do what you gotta do…”
      *Shhhhhred*

    • What sort of cookies?

      • Sapfo

I think the perfect cookie only a true hero could make. 😉

        • But is it the perfect chocolate chip? The perfect oatmeal? The perfect pfeffernusse? The perfect (insert favorite cookie here)?

          • Sapfo

It´s chocolat-chip-oatmeal-pfeffernusse-perfect-dream cookies. Can only be made by Kyle. I dont know why. Its just the way it is.

          • I should have known. 🙂

    • Steven K.

Kyle making cookies for me would be far far down on a list of things I’d want him to do for (with/to/on) me.

  • Panel 3 and 4 makes me giggle. Spooky goes from being so serious and back to his ‘normal’ self between one sentense and the other.

Kyle gave himself the right answer and now Spooky looks so smug. He IS the expert in that too after all 😉

    • I want to know more about Spooky’s expertise on that score and on a variety of…fronts. The man just seems more and more intriguing as time goes on.

  • Oh Spooky. Yes, you are indeed the expert.

  • Librarican

Here I thought I was early!
… That last panel… Does Spooky has his own merchandise? That hat seems to have a cartoon on it that looks vaguely familiar. Have we seen the “front” of the hat before this?

    • It’s a Spooky cap. Literally 🙂

    • b3nc0

On the interlude chastly speaking pages.

    • Jamie Dutton

Yep, he has his own merchandise line.

    • silibub

Actually, speaking of his hat, is it supposed to look like a ghost version of Spooky? What if one aspect of Spooky’s powers is that he can “go ghost” like Danny Phantom or something?

      • Jamie Dutton

Good question, silibub. All I know is he does paranormal investigations sometimes, so ghost powers would probably come in handy if he has any.
I wonder if Alex has gotten any more word about the hats from the Kickstarter?

        • I did, actually, just today. A picture from the manufacturer. But unfortunately, it’s a really blurry picture, so I’ll have to wait until it’s in my paws before I can post an update about it. But hopefully that will happen soon. 🙂

          • Jamie Dutton

Blurry pics are better than no pics, Alex. Hmm, maybe they went hunting bigfoot and got the pics mixed up?

          • Maybe, but I think first impressions are important. And if I can’t tell what I’m really looking at, I can’t expect the Kickstarter backers to, either.

Very tempting to post, but I think it’s best to wait until I can take a really good pic (or three.) 🙂

          • Jamie Dutton

Ok, I’m with you on that. I’ll try to be patient for better pics, Alex. Promise 🙂

          • b3nc0

Can I play my Cassandra here? You might want to ask for a better picture… The blurryness of this one may have been on purpose, to make a piss poor job at embroidering less noticeable…

  • Sapfo

Alex you three did a good job on Spooky panel 4 (and the rest of the page also). Kind of want to smack him, but only a little 😉

    • Jamie Dutton

      I want to poke his dimples….so cute ><;

  • Jamie Dutton

That’s our Kyle! Like I said Degree of Evilness/Hell Spawniness: Kitten sleeping in a shoe 🙂

    http://www.cuteanimalsonline.com/my-kitten-sleeping-in-a-shoe/

    • No fair…..that is just TOOOOO cute……can I have teh kittah?

      • Jamie Dutton

Sorry but it’s part of my EKP or “Emergency Kitten Pictures” files. Sometimes the only thing that can combat the terror of the internet are devastatingly cute pics of kittens.

        • too true, too true

Though the biggest temptation to become a cat lady are the kittens, it is hard to say no to a kitten….

          • Jamie Dutton

very true, which is why I’ve been sticking with virtual kittens. Less hairballs and no litter boxes to clean

    • Cman65

It could be an evil kitten , you know that if you try to pet it your going to lose an arm! But its just sooooooooooo cute

  • Sapfo

I have to run now. You all have fun with the new page. But don´t you rip it now! I will not be happy if I see any fingerprints on it. And no eating ice cream when reading it…..

(its good that this is not the papper version with all the food talk on the other page)

    See you all later! ^_^

    • Have a good day!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Take care!

    • Have fun 🙂
I survived my first week at work (even though my feet might not agree) and I’m gonna spend the next hour upping my motivation to get out in the cold again *brr*

      • I was going to ask how work was! Hope it was a good week. (Other than your feet killing you)

        • It’s good, sometimes really busy but good. People are really nice. Luckily we get two half-hour breaks and the free food is great 😉 Despite my feet hurting every day when I get off, I like it so far (might change my mind when it’s my time to work as a dish washer).

          • That’s great! Can’t really ask for better. 🙂

          • Dish washing isn’t that bad. I actually preferred that to working with people. The only downside for me is that it is a little rough on the nails.

  • fujoshifanatic

Yay! Kyle is finally starting to focus on the task at hand (thanks Spooky!) and hopefully his experiences in hell can offer some valuable insights into how they can be stopped.

  • silibub

*slaps forehead* Oh! Before I dive back into my pile of reading — Alex, the Something’s Brewing card and Artifice book I ordered came in the mail yesterday, and both of them are beautiful. I’m really looking forward to reading your notes and so on, but I’m saving it for when I have a block of time to sit and really appreciate it. (I’m appreciating the card plenty already, heheh!)

    • Yay! I’m so glad you like them! Thank you for letting me know!

(And The Platinum Priestess wanted me to tell you that you have excellent taste…)

      • silibub

Ha! Then please assure her that taste is but one of my many excellent qualities.

  • b3nc0

Good day everyone, I’ll nap for a while now. (not having to go to work doesn’t mean I don’t have to work)

    • silibub

Ok, rest up and good luck with your work!

    • Good day!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Sleep well!

    • Hmm, I could nap for another 45mins >.>
Have a nice nap, and good work later on.

  • Simba

I haven’t fallen asleep yet, but as I was trying I was thinking of what I would have said if I were Kyle… Probably something along the lines of “Find a Tardis and fix all this” but I guess that wouldn’t be a serious answer to Spooky’s very serious question. I guess I joke about stuff when I’m feeling like the truth would be overwhelming.
I really really like that first panel, with the speechless helplessness, trying to dig through all the emotion to find the bit of reason hiding in there somewhere… I know how that feels.
Those are my thoughts for now, back to trying to get into Nod.

    • stickfigurefairytales

This is totally unrelated, but your icon is really cute.

      • Simba

Thanks. 🙂 I’ve had it a long time and just recently rediscovered it. Seemed appropriate somehow…

  • jreed3842

Well! I totally missed the camping session!
But… yes… Can they be stopped. Perhaps if they eliminate the source of their new-found power, which would be Laampros… So the even bigger question is… Can Laampy be stopped?

    • stickfigurefairytales

They’ll just have to get George on their side.

    • Steven K.

You’d think Kyle should have some sway or influence with Laampros. And Kyle could always tell him that Duncan was a royal douche to him, as you would have thought that Laampros would have surmised. He didn’t seemed concerned that his “prince” was put in chains naked and used against his will – he only seemed to try to “comfort” him a little, which wasn’t all too comforting to kyle.

  • yaoi fanatic

    Someone call Sam and Dean

    • Sethy

Something tells Laampros would be less likely to put up with our favorite brothers than Crowley lol

      • Holly

        ….Kyle, Dean, and Castiel. *sighs*

        • Sethy

Crowley would probably like Kyle, if only to tease him and make inappropriate sexual jokes ;p

I wonder how being the prince of hell thing would affect Dean and Sam and Castiel’s treatment of him (if they were in the same universe of course).

Actually now that I think about it, Supernatural has never had a superhero themed episode. This could be a fun idea!

          • Holly

ugh now I want fan fiction. *sighs*

          • Sethy

            You and me both ^^

  • This page..
Kyle has self-realization. Clear in panel 1.
Spooky knows he’s right. Panel 4 speak for itself.
    Paul.. ‘now, back to business’.

It’s time to address the ‘elephant in the room’. What are they going to do with the current situation? No, what CAN they do?

And through all this, I’m becoming more curious to what Mitch is doing during all this? How much will he hear. How much will he know. Will something happen outside, or is he about to burst in?
Guess my mind is trying to ignore that ‘elephant’ until the next page.

  • TwilightDreamer

Gah! The suspense of this story! It’s a love/hate thing… XD
Fair question Fluke. Of course they can be stopped, but oh heck it is NOT going to be easy!
I don’t know whether I’m more worried/curious about what’ll happen when they come face to face with Annihilator, or with Laampros. XD

  • Klaus

The perfect line from Paul. He could not have done better if they had rehearsed it. Move focus from the past to the future. Make Kyle think of something other than guilt. And this is the one thing that you can get him to think of.

  • tokiohcom

    Aww Kyle bb. 🙁

  • Alright.. my time to get myself up and going. Preparing for work.. and going out in the cold to get there. Really looking forward to the snow going away again, and temps above freezing.

Have fun with commenting. Alex, thank you for yet another lovely page. Give my thanks to A&V for their great work.

  • Alex, Adam & Vero,

Thank you for beautiful page. Apologies, tonight my husband thinks I’m supposed to pay attention to him. HA! Okay, it’s worth it… erm… really worth it. So, you won’t have my pontification to help you fall asleep. I will write in the morning, which doesn’t really help you sleep… well not at the right time.

So, I recommend Option#2: Slam two Ativan and a martini tonight asap and you’ll all be right as rain (that’s prescribed for each of you).

More curious chat and compliments tomorrow. And ending on another essential question. Alex, honestly, it’s like you do it on purpose. 🙂

    Again my thanks everyone,
    Christopher D

    • Have a nice evening, Chris!

    • Jamie Dutton

Lol, tell your hubby we said “hi” 🙂

    • Yes, much like. 😉

      Have fun, you crazy kids!

  • Sethy

I got a general question for anyone with an answer:
Why is she called The Platinum Princess and not The Platinum Queen or The Platinum Empress or something similar? She’s around Anni’s age right? Has she has this name since she was young and never opted to change it when she transitioned to a mature woman, or is there another explanation?

    • Holly

      It’s Platinum PRIESTESS. Not princess.

      • Sethy

        Oh man my bad! Thanks.

        • Holly

No problem Sethy, easy mistake to make. I was feeling bad for a moment because reading my comment back I thought it came off a little harsh sounding, and I didn’t want to seem mean. ^_^

          • Sethy

            No no it’s fine, I had a long day at university and just finished reading three long chapters of textbooks. My brain is a bit drained haha ^^;;

          • Holly

Oh I know the feeling. I forgot the day of the week because I was trying to clean my whole apartment. A task that sadly will take more than a single day to complete. Which is bad because I need a door fixed and i can’t have my super up until my place is clean, but every time I open that closet I make the whole thing worse.

            What is your major?!

          • Sethy

Ah the woes of cleaning… There just aren’t enough hours in the day. Would it be possible to leave the closet door open until you have it fixed?

            International Relations

          • Holly

Not really. I am trying though. There are things in there that I need and I can’t just empty out the whole closet in the mean time because I have no where to keep things.

            OOO interesting.

          • Sethy

Gotcha. I live in a small apartment too.

          • Holly

How big? mine is 15×15. i have friends with larger bedrooms…

          • Sethy

It’d be considered decently sized if it weren’t for my mom’s stuff taking up all the open floor space. It’s quite cramped. I have maybe 3 feet of open space on my bedroom floor and another 5 feet in the living room that I can actually use. The rest is occupied by bedding, pillows, books, moving boxes, stacks of shoes boxes, etc.

          • Holly

            darn

          • Sethy

Eh it’s all right. I’m thankful that nothing major needs repairs. Moving things around (like with your closet door issue) to make room for maintenance people would be a nightmare. x_x

I hope your door gets fixed soon!

          • Holly

Thanks. I hope so too. I mean it took like 6 months to get my light bulbs changed so i don’t know.

          • Sethy

6 months for light bulb replacements? Goodness…

          • Holly

Well it’s a number of things.
First, He didn’t have enough bulbs the first time. So he needed to go get more
So I, thinking he was busy, didn’t press the issue for a while.
Second, I spent many weeks over the summer at home, so again, not pressing the issue.
And then I pressed the issue hard for a week.

I’ve messaged him about toilet issues and he’s come same day. I think he just didn’t think the lightbulbs were a huge issue.

          • Sethy

Hmmm yeah… still that’s a long time to wait for such a small repair order. Even if he was busy he shouldn’t have made you wait so long. Quite unacceptable in my opinion.

Ah the joys of renting :/

          • Holly

in October, the resident manager for three of the buildings owned by the company i rent from came by for semi annual checks. And decided that my showers needed to be replaced. never came back. LOL

          • Sethy

            /face palm

          • Sethy

Well as much as I’d like to keep chatting with you I unfortunately have class early in the morning and must depart for bed~~

            Good night Holly 🙂

          • Holly

            night sethy

      • You’re thinking about Sircea’s sister, The Plutonium Princess. Whoooooooo… now that’s a sexy costume. Again, totally evil, sure, but seeeeexy. Yow.

        • The Plutonium Princess, huh? Might just have to steal that… 😉

          • Steven K.

Well, if we are sticking with an elemental theme, there’s always the Technetium Temptress. But be careful, she’d be radioactive.

          • Darn fine print… gets you every time! Go Alex!

  • Holly

Wait to bring the mood back down PAUL! Geez, Spooky finally starts getting through to Kyle, maybe making him feel better, and Fluke has to come in and be like “Can we even undo this horrible thing you wraught upon us?”

    • Well it IS a pertinent question. I mean, can they?

      • Holly

Oh I know that. It’s the BIG question. It’s just bad timing. I mean well, excellent timing in one way. Good segue, but emotionally, bad timing. Then again, best not let Kyle get his hopes up and have them dashed.

  • Hmm. This is probably wishful thinking but here goes…How about if one of the ways they can stop Laampy and this end-of-the-world scenario is to convince one of them, Anni or Ms. Priestess, to come over to their side? Not sure how that would play out but maybe it would upset the balance of power somehow?

Of course, they’d (or Kyle) might be elected to do the convincing since he already has a relationship with him. It would be wrenching for him, I know. Anyway, I’m sure that’s not the way but I wanted to through the idea out there anyway.

Edit: Damn, I just reread this comment and realized how crazy it sounds. I only got two hours of sleep last night, folks, so my mind is going in a lot of different directions right now.

    • Holly

mmm. It’s interesting Gryph, but I don’t think it’s what Alex will do. If my brain was functional I would offer reasons for my statement, but my mind is kind of muck and sludge of tiredness now.

      • I think you’re right about that. Looks like a lot of us are kind of muck and sludge of tiredness.

Re: Your apartment. I’m in exactly the same place except it would take several days to clean mine. I keep asking myself: There is a finite amount of space in here, how is it possible that I have so much crap?!

        • Holly

Because you have no where to store it, so it ends up all over. Part of me wants to put the maintenance requests in on the stuff now, but knowing my luck this will be the one time my super doesn’t take a few days to respond. So I will get the place ship shape first, and then ask to have the issues corrected.

          • So right there with you. I have to get the caulking on my bathtub redone but can’t until I clean. *sigh*

          • Holly

Broken closet door, broken face cloth rack in the shower, and the shower isn’t draining right.

Also on a tangentially related note, my walls look a little bare after i moved some of my furniture. But I can’t decide if I should do something about that. I move out in April…

          • If you’re moving out in April, why make the effort unless it really bothers you to have bare walls? You could put up some yaoi prints as a temporary fix 😀

          • Holly

Naw the original pieces are enough. It makes me sad when people come over and think I drew all the artwork. Like I WISH.

…or maybe I will print off something.

        • Klaus

DOon’t worry about cleaning. After about four years, it will not get any worse.

        • Steven K.

The question about the crap? I’m asking myself that quite a lot recently.

    • dereule101

You never know! Even the craziest idea can become the most surprising, awesome twist if properly executed.

      • Spoken like a true writer! Or brilliant reader of webcomics!

        Thanks for the encouragement.

    • Miss Quinn

Well, not entirely crazy. Anni has already admitted he cares for Kyle. Sees of him as a truly good person and a true hero. Of course, he clearly cares about himself more, but he does have some affection for Kyle. He might not even have to come over to their side, he just needs to hesitate, in the fight that Kyle is obviously going to initiate, because, really, the guy broke his heart. (And also used him to open up an interdementional portal to hell to make a deal with the devil who also happens to be his dad.)

      • Steven K.

Ummmm – someone’s got to do a lot better job convincing me that he actually CARES for Kyle. After the way he treated Kyle – and the manner in which he left him, without even any dignity of something to put on, etc. There are SO many things he could have gone about differently if he TRULY cared about him. He may have nothing against him, and may not want to physically damage him if it can be avoided, and might muse how things might have been different under other circumstances, but there is nothing in his ACTIONS that say he has any truly caring thoughts for Kyle. He even says that, not only does he not owe Kyle an explanation, he doesn’t owe him ANYTHING. Those aren’t the words of someone who gives a flying fuck.

        • EyeDontNo

In agreement with Steven K, just remember that Duncan still needs Kyle to open the portal again to fulfill his contract with Laampros. The “I don’t owe you but here it is” monologue seems to be setting the scene for a reconciliation. But it could be leading to a second trap so Duncan can use the spell that requires trust from Kyle to work properly.
Just something to remember as we continue discussing.

        • Miss Quinn

I’m not saying he loves him. I’m saying, he felt some tiny twinge of emotion in his shriveled black little heart for what he did to an innocent, troubled young boy and that can possibly become a future plot point.

  • Mitch…I miss that adorable pup. I hope we get to see him soon. Maybe on the next page? Will we get to see something of his possible crush on Kyle? Would Kyle even notice? What are they going to tell him about the situation?

    • Holly

OH GOD MITCH! I hope we see him before the end of the chapter? I can see him being all like “do you need me to take on Anni for you Kyle?” And Kyle just being all “What? no that’s dangerous” and not getting it and Spooky and fluke being like “oh no, mitch has a crush”

      • XD I can totally see that!

      • Saxon_Brenton

Perhaps Mitch has been listening in, and after all the hard work that Spooky and Paul have been doing to get Kyle’s headspace straight, Mitch inadvertantly wipes it all out by saying something well meaning but ill considered?

        • Holly

Oh I could see mitch doing that.

  • Errff.

I’m about to fall over so I’m signing off for tonight. Alex, Veronica, and Adam, thanks for the wonderful page(s).

    Have fun commenting, everyone. ‘Nite.

    • Whoa and you got “The Hero” page for your birthday. Happy Birthday indeed. Sweeeeet!

    • Happy Birthday! I’m a bit late. Hope it was a good one.

  • SofiaT

This page could have started with the second panel. Kyle could have answered the question with no hesitation, with feeling, straight away. He is a superhero after all, stopping the bad guys and saving the world should be like a reflex to him, right?

But I’m happy he didn’t. I really love that first panel. That moment is not one of hesitation, it’s one of self-reflection. Kyle didn’t just give an automatic line. He took the time to look inside him and search what it is he wants most. He took Spooky’s question seriously and, once again, that let us know what kind of man (a boy no longer), what kind of hero he is.

    Fantastic work, Alex!

    • Thank you. And yes, exactly this. He took Spooky’s question very seriously so he wanted to look deep within himself and give the most honest, sincere answer he could. This is what he came up with. 🙂

    • Saxon_Brenton

Which means that now that Kyle seems to be over his self-flagellating teenaged angst, we get to fan squee over him being a hero.

  • vessto

Oh, but why not fighting Laampros too?

As always Fluke is the voice of the rational thinking.:D

Love Kyle’s head in the last panel. ♥

    • Klaus

If they can prevent the Annihilator and PP from opening the gate, they will not need to fight Laampros.

      • vessto

Once seduced and given an opportunity ot rule over our world Laampros will always seek ways to enter in.

        • Klaus

He has been seeking for a very long time.

      • EyeDontNo

Defeat Laampros and Anni and PP have already lost.
And by Defeat I mean convince him that Earth isn’t Anni’s to offer him.

        • Klaus
        • Steven K.

Or Kyle will just say to Laampros – “I think you need a vacation Pops – why don’t you just find some nice, quiet, deserted tropical island to relax on – or somewhere cold like Antarctica to literally chill out on if you are tired of the heat – and I’ll rule over your portion of the planet in your place, as your heir and all that – we’ll keep control within the family that way and you won’t have to be burdened with all the stress and work and bother of ruling and running things!” Then while Laampros is taking it easy, Kyle just turns everything back over to appropriate authorities – or some such thing – or becomes a benevolent ruler himself. Maybe he decides to then go to war against the soldiers of Dancanistan and free the North American people.

    • bronakopdin

really? to fight the devil himself? If I could I’d seriously try to avoid that >_>’

      • vessto

Laampros is more dangerous than the Silver Duo imho.

        • bronakopdin

yeah but would he ever have come to this realm if Anni and Circea didn’t call for him?

          • vessto

He won’t give up because he met his “son”. Things won’t ever be like before for Laampy.

          • bronakopdin

so at least you give him so much humanity to care for his offspring? xDD

            you’re so nice ^^

          • vessto

Lol, no humanity, but parental pride of seeing how powerful offspring he has.

          • bronakopdin

Isn’t parental pride very human? xD

          • vessto

Human – sometimes; demonic – always.:)

          • bronakopdin

what? parental pride is always demonic? xDDD

          • vessto

No, in the contrary order. Humans can be proud parents but not always. Demons are always proud when their offspring possess forces.

  • bronakopdin

I really like Kyle’s expression in the second panel, it’s so full of resolve! The resolve he gained when looking inside of himself in panel one!

… and then comes spooky again with his confidence xD I like how he likes himself ^^

Paul finally kicking back in with the most important question atm… now I guess we’ll come to some planning and action again in the story 🙂

    very good page!

  • Denise Cruz

Expressions, expressions, expressions! In each panel … Unbelievably perfect!

My favorite one is that Kyle’s face in first panel. SO REAL!

    Can they be stoped?

I still think that Kyle can get. Maybe Spooky knows how more clearly, more emphatically…

  • Sethron A Bowman

    Christ…

Either you moderate your comments really heavily, or you literally have the nicest fanbase in the world. They are all so kind to one another without any prodding.

it’s really refreshing. I enjoy reading the comments on your comic.

    • Niggle

Yes, it’s quite nice. I actually only remember once seeing a comment downvoted. Of course, there have been big discussions and disagreements that I’ve missed, but overall everyone is pretty damn civil and can disagree without being jerks about it. 😀

    • People are nice here 🙂 I only think I’ve seen Alex delete/edit a comment a few times in all the time he’s made TYP.

    • Maus Merryjest

They are pretty darned nice 🙂

    • SofiaT

      It’s a nice community!

And -trust me- the moderating hand here is very, very light 🙂

      • All my joshing aside… “What Sofia said”.

I know somewhere Alex has a link to an excellent article that spoke really smartly to the idea that you could share any personal opinion, even a negative one, in a supportive and positive way. If you were willing to take the time and word it carefully. I think we’ve all picked up a lot of technique from Alex in regards to this idea. And, honestly, it helps a lot.

This IS one the safest Discussion Groups I’ve experienced and yet it’s also a very vocal and opinionated group, in all the ways I love most. Most of the members are not as shy and delicately reticent as I am.

I think you’ll have fun. Just try not to use George Carlin’s Seven Dirty Words in critique of any of my comments… and you should be GREAT.

        Welcome!

        • Thank you, Chris. Was this the article you were thinking about?

          http://www.critters.org/c/diplomacy.ht

(It’s for writers critiquing the work of other writers, but I find it’s message useful for online critique in general. I have a link to it on the Comment Policy page).

          • Yes, thank you Alex, I’d saved it because it says in a perfectly articulate way a discussion that I’ve had in bits and awkward pieces with people many times in a number of different mediums.

It’s about being heard and understood when delivering creative opinions and feedback. A process which is always slightly less fun than heart surgery right after you’ve just given birth to a creation that you’ve labored over for ages.

So, thanks again for that link. It’s so great to be able to share it and say, “YES. THAT.” 🙂

          • Cool. I think for those who are truly looking to be helpful or engage in an actual illuminating discussion (vs. being eristic—a word that SofiaT just taught me 🙂 ), it’s actually very useful.

I’m not sure if the original recipient was ever able to understand what was being said—it seems like it can be all too easy for some people, particularly very young people, to conflate diplomacy with dishonesty—but for the rest of us, it offers really good tips. And even though the ultimate goal shouldn’t be to persuade, expressing your honest opinion diplomatically does, in fact, make you a lot more persuasive.

    • I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I feel so lucky with the community that we’ve formed here. Whether I meet our readers in person or interact online, it’s just an exceptionally awesome group. Discovering and getting a chance to share these stories with such truly exceptional folks is one of the big pleasures of starting this project.

(And yes, as Sofia pointed out, since I launched my webcomics over two years ago, the number of times we’ve had to step in and moderate is a vanishingly small number. While we will do whatever it takes to protect this community and its respectful tone, we don’t have to do much at all—people here are just that cool.)

I’m very glad you’re enjoying the community here. Welcome! 🙂

    • Saxon_Brenton

      Yes, indeed.
[Dexter’s Laboratory reference] “Young Protectors fandom. It’s a happy place.”

    • You are sooooo right. We all know the cruelties, the hardships, the unfairnesses of our totalitarian regime here; the harsh, cruel Lamprossish dictatorship in which our ogress-like MODS wreak atrocities upon our freedom of self expression.

Oh yes, we readers know exactly what is happening, and like miserly merchants with coins of Young Protector Suspense, laying upon the scales of literary pleasure, we are forced to consider the balance mostly… a fair one.

Well, hi-ho, it’s another millennial wait for a page in the seventh circle of the Young Protector’s fandom. Have fun!

*chris heads hopes his comment gets read before it is inevitably… heavily moderated.*

      • *pointing fingers at eyes, pointing fingers at Chris*

        • Denise Cruz

          XDDDD
          Loving it! (Again!)

          • Need to watch that trouble maker!! 😀

          • Denise Cruz

Sure thing! But, you know we love him. Don’t you?! XD

          • Of course! Because he’s a trouble maker. 😀

          • Denise Cruz

            Exactly!! lol

      • Steven K.

Well, there are 2 worse circles if we extend your analogy, so I guess it’s not as bad as it could be.

    • Sebastian

That’s something I always love about coming here. Everyone is so nice! You never see mean comments. It says a lot about the people Alex has attracted to the comic.

  • Pikinanou

I’m so proud of you Kyle. You’re a real hero 🙂
…and meanwhile, Mitch has gone get himself a BigMac 😛

    • Jamie Dutton

I vote for McNuggets! Darn now I’m hungry :/

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

The fire he used against the Annihilator that burned his flesh….yes he can stop them .he could reduce both to a pile of ashes. Going up against the demon might be a bit rougher….but also doable.

    • IamM

Duncan made a deal with Lampy, but he hasn’t delivered on his end to open the gateway yet. The whole thing could be stopped before it even begins. Though u doubt it’ll be that simple.

      • EyeDontNo

        *Dons Evil Hat*
Of course it can be that simple…
Duncan needs Kyle to open the doorway again in order to finish the deal. So the simple plan is kill Kyle and Duncan’s plans fail.
        Simple.
        *Removes Evil Hat*

      • Steven K.

That WOULD be the best strategy – to somehow prevent Duncan from unlocking the gateway in the first place.

  • Perverzak

this is the first time I saw Spooky’s cap close up… Its ADORABLE 😀

  • ME24601

    “Can this be stopped?”
    “Nope. We’re completely fucked.”
    The end.

  • Amanda

Geez, FLuke! Maybe your superhero name should be Debbie Downer, cause you are killing this party.

  • Amanda

I think Disqus is eating my comments

    • I’m showing your other comment there. Though I did have to refresh. 🙂

    • You’re not alone. I’ve been having strange Disqus stuff all day. 😛

  • Jakk Anthony Guzman

It may seem premature for Fluke to be asking if “they can be stopped” while Spooky is still trying to calm down Kyle and to put him in the right frame of mind. But the story has to keep moving at a good pace (as in most comics). In the comics superheroes recover quickly from adversity and are ready to keep fighting in no time. In real life it would be a different story, as we discussed before about the emotional recuperative powers of superheroes when Kyle was being used and abused by the Annihilator.

    • Klaus

This is the best thing they could do for Kyle. Focus on what can be done. Stop obsessing about guilt and move on. It will not last, of course, but it is a step on the way.

  • I may or may not be posting what I wanted to say about this page today. I slipped twice walking down the driveway to get the mail and paper, and the second time I hit the back of my head pretty hard, it has been at least an hour / hour and a half and the pain in my head is still constant. I am going to be black and blue tomorrow.

    • Shinashi

…Might want to get that checked out for real…

    • Ice! You got ice on that head?

      • Well, in a way that is kind what I hit it on…..kind of.

        • So I figured, but you want to keep the swelling down. Do you have a lump. I understand a lump is not a bad thing, it’s better out than in.

          • I don’t feel a bump or a sore spot. Just a really annoying constant headache.

          • Have you taken anything for it?

          • Mother gave me something, so my head is probably hurting a lot less than it could be (and a lot less than when it happened). I actually walked up her scary a** driveway so she could check me out before I went home. She is a nurse and I figure she would know enough to pass verdict.

          • Sounds good then!

          • Yeah, but really not looking forward to being sore tomorrow. When I bent over to pick up the bath mat after my shower, there was a bit of pain in the lower back. So if you don’t hear from me tomorrow, it is because I cannot leave the bed.

          • Oh I bet. I slipped in the shower last year. Was indeed sore for a bit. Lovely bump on my head, a bruise on my arm. Neck was stiff.

          • Took a nap and now my head hurts like it did before I saw my mother, moving around a bunch makes it worse. Told me to take some non aspirin pain relief. Waiting for that to kick in. She said I probably have a mild concussion and to call her at work if anything changes.

          • Well hope everything is okay. Falling can be nasty business. And concussions are never fun.

          • Eh, I have constant headaches a lot, this is just more annoying than usual.

          • Kate G

You should probably go to the ER and make sure you don’t have a concussion or another head injury. It might sound silly, but getting whacked that hard could be serious. Now, you could just have a lump on your noggin, but you could also have a concussion or a bleed in your brain. People have died from not having simple knocks on the head from slipping on ice or the like checked out.

I suffer from migraines too, but my dad being an EMT would have sent me to the ER if I slipped and knocked my head on the ice and it lasted this long. He’d think I would have a concussion, but he would want it verified (because he’s all weird like that.)

          • Mother told me to call her if anything changes when I talked to her after waking up from my light nap. She was at work at the hospital. She works the night shift. And I would really prefer not to add to my mountain of unpaid hospital bills if I can avoid it. *sigh* I really need to find a job.

          • Kate G

Ah, the joys of still being on my parent’s insurance plan and living under their house and being “disabled.” I DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR MAH BILLS! MWA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!! <-only good part about my situation

          • ……..just rub it in, go on, just RUB IT IN! 😛

    • Doki,

I’m worried about you but glad your mother is a nurse. Take care of yourself and I’m sorry you’ll be sore tomorrow. I hope it won’t be too bad.

      Gryph

      • Gryphon,

My head is feeling a bit better now that the pain pills (second time) seem to have kicked in.

Dealing with some contradictory feelings. Since I was going to be out for a long period taking pictures in the snow today I opened up the vent in my room to heat it up for when I get back. Now I am sweating, but I don’t really want to close it and when I go to the rest of the house where it is pleasantly cool I am ending up wearing a sweater. Not sure what I want to do, I hate being hot, but for some odd reason I don’t want to close my vent. *sigh*

When I got back to the house I took a hot shower so hopefully that helped a bit. I have noticed some pain here and there in my neck occasionally, but not for awhile.

I took a light nap from about 7 40ish to about 9 12? So I am probably going to be awake for a bit.

        Doki

        • You might have some pain in your neck. Something about hitting your head that way affects your neck.

I hope your temperature discomfort is better. Keep us posted.

          • Yeah, getting a bit more off and on neck discomfort.

Room is till hotter then I like, but a little more tolerable I think?

  • Shinashi

This part reminds me of the Young Justice scene where Artemis was afraid to show her background, and my husband- I mean Aqualad was like, you are not your family. <3

  • Frater Gymnos

    love that last panel!

  • Perverzak

Its a cool style 😀 I used to wear mine like that when I was 13 and pretend to be a boy… Good times 😀

  • Calvin Wilkinson

love how the first panel shows that moment when he’s taking all the courage and energy he can to get out of the mental hole he already buried himself in; all so he can face the consequences head on. WOOOT for internal struggles being fought

  • Kate G

Spooky’s hair is blue! I thought it was black that had a blue-ish tinge, but geez I must be blind sometimes (like, really, really, really blind.)

Have y’all ever noticed Kyle’s hair has changed somewhat over the chapters? It’s so much cuter now.

Two days until my birthday! WOO HOO! Maybe I’m a little too excited…

    • Klaus

If so, Flyboy’s hair is purple.

      • Kate G

I think he has violet highlights. The vast majority of his hair is black as it matches his suit which is a black pleather/latex/whatever shiny fabric.

        • Klaus

I don’t think either Flyboy or Spooke have colored heir. The highligts are just where the ligt reflects off the hair. Why the artist has chosen purple and green I don’t know.

          • Kate G

I’m allowed to have my point of view; you can have yours. I hope their hair is colored because that is awesome.

          • Well, there are different shades of black hair, just like there are different shades of reds, blonds, and brunettes.

Just maybe a little harder to see the differences….

          • Klaus

It would be hard for Mitch to keep his indentity secret if he had purple hair, dyed or natural.

    • I think Spooky’s hair has more of a teal tint than blue on this page.

      • Kate G

Yea, it’s teal, but teal is in the blue family…so my head says “blue.”I’m in pain! I’m in generalizing mode! XD

        • eh, I would say it is more in the blue-green/green-blue family 😛

          • Steven K.

I’m fairly sure teal is a member of the green-blue.family.

      • Perverzak

teal, huh? I had to look that fancy colour up 😀 so yes yes I agree, but is it natural?

    • Becky

Are you sure it isn’t just colorist trickery for “shiny”? I’m fairly certain it’s meant to just be black.

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

Blue is often used to highlight black hair in comics. Superman in the comics is a good example.

    • Saxon_Brenton

People have already noted that blue highlights to otherwise black hair is a standard artistic depiction of shiny/lustrous hair – presumably as a result of reflecting blue sky. (although I recall reading as a kid a reprint of a Wonder Woman comic where IIRC they explained WW’s blue hair being the result of having an adventure in another dimension that changed it).

However, I will draw readers’ attention to the fact that *this* scene is taking place indoors at night and the only light source is Spooky’s magically conjured lantern. The lantern itself is green (which seems to be the standard special effect for his magics) but the light itself might be white to human eyes – kind of like fluroescent light photgraphs as green but is perceived as white because our eyes and brains adjust the spectrum. So I’m not sure whether that should cause Spooky’s highlights to be more green, or whether the yes-adjusting-the spectrum effect means we just get to see his standard character design.

  • streetwalkersan

Good answer, Kyle! Glad to see you’ve got your wits about you. “Stop them” is rather nice and diplomatic, whereas saying you wanted to brutally slaughter the Annihilator and the Platinum Priestess to make them pay for what they did to you would have sounded a lot more hell-spawny…

I know Kyle’s a good guy but there’s a reason people aren’t allowed to work with cases that they’re too close to in real life. I can’t help but wonder whether that hesitation is because he’s really considering the question or if he’s censoring himself. Interesting!

    • stickfigurefairytales

While that is true (and a good point) about people in real life not being allowed to work cases they’re too close to, I think that it rarely tends to apply for superheroes…in part because the dramatic necessities of superhero comics promote personal involvement, and in part because the superheroes are often the only ones who can take on the fights in question.

      • streetwalkersan

You’re right but that’s exactly my point. Normal people wouldn’t be allowed to pursue their perps personally, it is only because Kyle is a superhero and “one of the good guys” that no one questions if it’s a good idea.

I just wonder, when it comes to the question of how “good” Kyle is, whether it’s as simple and straightforward as this dialogue between Spooky and Kyle would suggest. It isn’t only a question of wanting to stop the bad guys anymore. Saving the world is no doubt a big part of what drives Kyle here but vengeance could be a motivator as well.

I like the grittier type of superhero comics where the heroes are sometimes deeply flawed and have a more human side. Kyle has been very goody-two-shoes so far so this might lead to a bit more internal conflict, a look into a darker side of the guy. Maybe. 🙂

      • Oh, absolutely. In real-life the recusal is to “AVOID” drama, conflict and emotion. In all forms of entertainment, against all good sense, we force the two protagonists together and let the sparks fly (i.e. Sherlock and Dr. W).

It seems that Alex’s palette is bigger than just a single conflict between Kyle and Duncan (although I suspect that would be a hot little fanfic, if you could find a way to tangle them up alone), but I’m sure that Kyle’s conflict with Duncan is far from over.

I didn’t really say it correctly in my big-gay-emoting note about Kyle’s head-moment, mostly because it was about Kyle NOT Duncan.

But, in my re-read, I was a little more distant and able to read more fairly. *shakes head ruefully* I do agree that Duncan is what he is, but he left that warehouse in real inner conflict. A conflict he never expected to experience.

Emotionally, it’s obvious he smugly started the journey of seducing Kyle with the expectation of staying uninvolved and ended it a changed man (in some fashion). I suspect that’s going to provide LOTS of emotional conflict before this is over.

And, all that has nothing to do with myself or any reader forgiving his actions against Kyle. It was clear on this read that SofiaT (among many other readers) is quite right. Yes, there, I said it! No, I’m not saying it again. LOL).

IMO, it IS the fact that Duncan didn’t kill Kyle in the end that tells us some of this. And that monologuing I’ve made so much fun of? IMHO that dialogue was to delay a departure Duncan didn’t want to make, but knew he had to.

Duncan left that warehouse fucked-up too, just in his stoic Duncan way and, yes, you can tell he’s not a man that can deal with emotion. (Oh I can hear the “I told you so’s from here.”) *snort*

In classic hero-story fashion, I don’t think either of these two will be able to avoid the dramatic emotional conflict to come. So, back to your original point — no sensible self-recusal because of being too involved can happen here.

It will be interesting to see how we all change our various opinions about the many sides of Duncan when Sircea truly enters the picture. (Perhaps Silibub can text her and get her involved sooner because I suspect sparks will fly.)

        Ohhhh… now there’s a good pseudonym, “SparkyWillFly.” 🙂

        • SofiaT

HA! Welcome to the dark side! >:D

…Did I say that out loud?

(At least I didn’t say “I told you so”!)

          • *fingers FIRMLY in the ears* lalalalalalalalalnotlistening……………..

        • (I feel a little stupid for asking this but is IMO = in my opinion and IMHO = in my honest opinion?)

          • Exactly and there is no good reason why I use both versions… FYI, all my opinions spring from a soul of extreme humility… *coughcough* Thanks Doki!

          • Just a little embarrassed that it took me this long to figure that one out. 🙁 I kept seeing, IMHO and just ignored it because I couldn’t figure out what they stood for. But thanks to your post I finally figured it out. ^_^

          • Doki, you NEVER have to be embarrassed about something like that. I swear I’ve learned more acronyms, emoticons, cool links, etc… from you, than anyone. So, my thanks to AWC CORRECTIONS, INC., and my thanks to you for all the rest.

*insert appropriate bow of thanks here*

          • Really? Cause I still feel like I owe you for those SGA fan fic links you gave me… ^_^

          • stickfigurefairytales

Oooh…is that SGA as in Stargate: Atlantis? Because if it is…

          • Yep. McKay and Sheppard. OMG….it works so well…those three stories about them…..excuse me I need to go re read them now.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Oooh…which stories?

          • I recommend reading them in this order:

            Coming Home: http://www.xanthe.org/coming-home/chapter-1/

            General & Dr. Sheppard: http://www.xanthe.org/general-dr-sheppard/

            Hiding in Plain Sight: http://www.xanthe.org/hiding-in-plain-sight/

The first one is how they meet and hook up, the second they get sent to a Parallel Universe (I found that one to be quite humorous in ways), and the last one is a SGA/NCIS cross-over. Much goodness. Very much.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            I’ve read those! They’re fantastic!!!

          • Yes, very much so.

          • As I understand it, the “H” in IMHO is for “humble” not “honest”. I see IMHO as a way to make clear that what you’re expressing is just your opinion, not something you’re stating as fact from on high.

          • Ah, kk. Thank you. ^_^

          • Exactly right. Sorry Doki. That’s what I get for reading too fast. When one is as opinionated (and just ever so slightly vocal) as myself. It’s a very a very useful acronym… Thanks Alex.

        • *GASP* I…I…I feel faint!

        • stickfigurefairytales

“SparksWillFly” or “SparkyWillFly” also sound like great ship names for Kyle/Mitch. Or a REALLY great ship name for an OT3 involving Kyle, Mitch, and some other guy named Will.

          • Oh I totally agree and, BTW, you made me look up OT3… exactly that! LOL.

            Thanks.

    • Steven K.

      Interesting point/possibility to ponder.

  • I am bored so I created a chat room if anyone wants to waste some time with me.

    http://us10.chatzy.com/19802473856019

  • Alex, Adam and Veronica you three have taken what should be an absolutely predictable and expected pro-forma super hero power-up plot step, and with your combined efforts, you’ve given the acting a sense of space, subtle depth, strength and hard courage. Instead of the given ‘turn’, it feels like a choice, a hard choice. Congratulations, I think that’s a remarkable achievement in this genre.

This is a moment we’ve all read and seen many times. The hero overcomes adversity and grabs his sword or gun and decides to make a stand. Bruce Willis in DIE HARD is as different a piece of work as I can think of, but this is that moment when he steps up to the plate — “Yippee-Ki-Yay Mofo.” This page felt REAL to this world and to these boys at their age and being who THEY are.

I think (to paraphrase) something Sofia mentioned already…

    http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch3pt1-page-20/#comment-1221454041

This page could have absolutely started on the second panel. As Kyle says, “I’D STOP THEM. I’D STOP THE ANNIHILATOR AND THE PLATINUM PRIESTESS.” It seems like the most ordinary expected line. Seriously.

    Warning gay emoting ahead:

But, here is what my big “mo” gay brain saw in Kyle’s head in that first all important panel that made that following line dire and strong. It’s by no means one thought. He’s an uncertain gay boy who paid a harsh price. In a flash, it is an entire re-read of everything to-date, leading up to this moment.

Kyle goes from honestly wanting to “crawl in a hole and die” to (in a flash) re-living his first gay bar, the pain of self-admitting he did not trust Paul & Spooky with this stupid secret. Acknowledge how hot Duncan was. How easily the man played him (god, I hate feeling that stupid, I can’t imagine it’s not just as hard for Kyle).

He has to relive how perfect the date was up to the spell, how bad he wanted it, HOW UNBELIEVABLY STUPID HE WAS. The terror that Laampros really exists! And HIS FATHER? FUCK??? Then the return, Duncan treating him like shit, but NOT killing him. In my mind, Kyle was sure he was destined to die as soon as Duncan got what he wanted. But, he wasn’t killed. So either they think so little of him that he didn’t matter or? How can he know.

That’s the real core of Kyle’s pain. Dudes like Duncan who do these things, they kill you when they’re done. They don’t leave a mess like you, unless you’re beneath their notice. So what? Just? Happened…………? I think that lightening fast… all that… making no sense… flashed through Kyle’s mind. With the heartbreaking answer… It doesn’t matter.

    It doesn’t matter.

That’s why he’s the hero. All the truth, the lies and confusion mix together with a very sad young man, who was brutally messed about (years of therapy for some). I think that look on his face in panel#1 is such a great flash of confused sorrow. He had such dreams of his first big night. Now gone forever. What’s the old saying? “If you find yourself in hell, keep walking.”

Now I know I can go dark. I see that it disturbs some when I do, but the next line to me in panel#2’s wonderful CU can only come from one place. Kyle is willing to die, maybe expecting to. You don’t defeat Duncan and Sircea if your some snot-nosed 18 year-old fire-chump who can be used and dumped as he was. So this is the only chance he’s got of regaining any pride.

That’s why he’s the hero. Pick your film (Die Hard? LOL. Or whatever). What he wants is the right ending at any cost. That’s why panel#3 reads darker to me. Kyle says, “I’d do anything Spooks I mean it.”

I’ll die to fix this and I expect to. It’s Duncan and Sircea… It’s a simple panel but #3 made me very emotional. He’s switched from the useless crawl in a hole’ boy to a man willing to die to make it right.

Again I loved the first panel of Paul slivered in the foreground watching his best friend suffer. Then it’s all Kyle. Until that last panel, when Paul steps up and (to me) gives Kyle the respect he deserves.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Now (sorry Alex) here is when I lost it. OMGGGGGGGG do I want to grab Paul’s face and kiss that serious looking mouth. He looks so super-smexy in that last panel, that I can’t believe that Kyle doesn’t just grab that head and make out with him for about a week. Erm… yes… I’ve “saved that panel” on my iPhone. (whistles innocently since it already has appropriate credits inscribed).

Paul looks like a MAN ready to stop talking and DO something.

I also disagree with some comments that thought Paul had, ‘stopped the party’. WHAT PARTY? Kyle is fully ready to DIE to save the world and make HIS MOST PERSONAL FUCKUP RIGHT. It made me feel better to think Paul might really care about that. I’d like to read that as… “My Best bud, Kyle, is not going out there to die alone, unless we figure out a way for this to actually work.”

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

While admittedly we’ve had no WoG, there have been many hints in commentary that Spooky is one of our non-queer team members. Well, if we leave Mitch out of it as too young. We have Gay Kyle dressed in an objectifying onzie (when he’s not naked that is). (Honestly, I like that A LOT, but still what is the gay to non-gay attire statement.) We have Paul (given still unknown) dressed in skin tight armor that presents him as sex on a stick. Mitch is in baggy clothing with goofy goggles to discourage the less restrained of us, as he is only 15 years-old.

So we seem to have non-queer Spooky. Dressed in big baggy layered clothing, almost completely covering his dimensions. I ask the quorate, are we perhaps objectifying gay men as sex objects while implying that it’s is obviously okay for smug het-Spooky to slob out? Is Spooks keeping close track of that hat because he can’t be bothered to take care of his hair like the other young men? Or is the issue even more insidious?

HAS SPOOKY BEEN SLACKING AT THE GYM? Is he carrying a deep and abiding envy of Kyle and Paul’s perfect physicality that will cause him to betray them at a critical moment due to the ugly green monster of jealousy? ALEX!!! Don’t break my heart (… again). Just how flabby is that Spooky belly under all those layers? An enormous penis does NOT make up for everything — oh it can help, I would not lie — but it won’t solve all problems if our Spooks is a little pudge-bucket under all that clothing.

So just to encourage the continued group vigilance against sexual stereotypes and objectification — I’ll be very interested to see what our Spooky is hiding and why. The Commander encourages the possible gays to wear revealing costumes, but seems to let her het-boy relax in “man” garb? Hmmm? What does this mean?

So I leave us all with that additional provocation. What lies beneath the hoodie and baggy pants???

What will baggy-panted Spooky say? Is it Saturday?

Hey guys, just absolutely fascinating delightful work. Thank you all for slaving away for us. It is very much appreciated.

    Best,
    ChristopherD

    • Saxon_Brenton

An excellent analysis of Kyle’s introspection, Chris. However, with regards to Spooky’s costume – I’ve already speculated that as the team magic-user he’s tapped into a more Harry Dresden / John Constantine vibe than the others and their skin tight bodysuits. But your speculation does otherwise raise interesting questions about the barechested Tsunami.

      • Well, you know I agree with you… and I love Spooks vibe. But, this is Kyle’s page so I felt some Spooky-bagging was in order, just to be fair to our hero.

But I suspect you’re right indeed… Spooky is also “the hero.” Just of a different story, which we’ll be harassing Alex for in the future! LOL.

    • Another lovely, fun comment, Christopher. Thank you. 🙂

(And Spooky wanted me to let you know that while he might not visit the gym as often as Fluke, his hair falls into a very attractive shape completely on its own, with no extra care, cap or no cap. Since you seemed concerned…)

      • OMG… that’s even worse! Spooky is so cool… he’s immune to hat hair! *SHOCKED FACE* Oh that is just wrong. *LFAO*

Thanks, as always, Alex for letting me enjoy the fun as well as the big gay emoting… it means a lot.

And admit it, Paul looks super sexy in that final panel. Oh how I want to suck face with Paul right now! (Kyle’s hair is so one page ago… humph).

        Best,
        ChristopherD

        • Steven K.

Good – then that leaves Kyle with his STILL-adorable hair for me!

    • Klaus

As for what Spooky is hiding, we have a shower scene coming. You are a kickstarter backer, I jope.

    • Jamie Dutton

I thought I was the only one that read the “I’d do ANYTHING…” as he’s willing to die to stop it from happening. Even with Alex’s WOG, it’s the moment that Kyle finds one of the things in his world that he’s willing to die for. That can give someone the strength to do amazing things when all Hell is literally about to break loose.

      • I’m glad I’m not the only one. Sometimes, I put dark thoughts in their heads as I read, especially in these moments. I think Alex has done a very good job of making our young Scoobies feel fresh to this world and Duncan and Sircea feel old and powerful and very crafty.

It almost felt like Kyle’s “anything” had to literally MEAN “anything” for him to even think it was possible. Which is why P#1 mattered to me so much. He had to get to that point.

In the re-read, it’s true, right or wrong, Duncan felt “so very very strong.” And earlier Sircea feels unknowably powerful and very scary.

I know, I know, I know, but it would feel unsurmountable to me, to even have start thinking that way. D & S are a rough couple of characters.

        Thanks Jamie.

  • Here are the pictures of the driveway, Most of it isn’t really that bad. It is just that darn hill. It is always the last to clear up and pretty much keeps us house bound whenever we get actual snow.

    • Choreocrat

Man, do you have the opposite of my weather! While you were having that, I was having a near miss from a tropical cyclone.

      • The day after I took that I would say about 60-75% of it melted, and today I would say only about 5-10% of the snow remains.

  • @admiraljane:disqus @Gryphongirl2:disqus and @disqus_J9ge42J6QR:disqus I am currently trying to go to sleep with little success, but I am getting sore in the oddest places. My stomach feels like I have been doing crunches. There is soreness in the back, but it seems concentrated on the left side. However my neck is sore on the sides mostly, and it hurts a little when moving my head. Mother said it should be safe for me to go to sleep, but now the fracking insomnia is kicking in.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Poor Doki – I hope you feel better soon!

    • Sapfo

      Get well Doki!
      Hugs! <3

    • Well after waking up it seems I haven’t added any sore spots from the fall. Just the back, mostly on the left side and in the shoulder area, the neck, and the stomach. Funnily enough my legs aren’t sore from all the hill climbing. ^_^ And no more headache!

      • Klaus

Good to hear you are feeling better.

        • Not quite as sore as I expected to be, and sore in an area I wasn’t really expecting to be sore in. ^_^

    • That happens with falls (have done lots of them, pretty much all of them off horses). You tend to pull things you didn’t think you pulled.

      Hope you feel better soon!

      • And learn just how many spots can hurt in one area. I haven’t had a bad fall in a long time. I think the last bad one I had was in the shower. I think my hand ended up the most messed up in that incident though, from where I tried to catch myself on the side of the tub.

And this was the first fall I can recall where I hit my head so hard. That was a doosey.

And also I can move my neck or back, but not both at the same time. It is amazing what movements you take for granted. Stretching is going to be interesting for awhile.

    • I got into a minor car crash once and I was sore in the weirdest places too. I think my stomach felt like I’d been doing crunches too!

Everything is connected…we all know that but it takes something like a fall to remind us.

I hope you were able to get some sleep, Doki. Thanks for keeping us up to date.

  • twenty_fifth_night

I am just loving Spooky more and more each page he’s in =D.

    • I’m so with you on that, twenty_fifth_night!

I keep being told that Spooky’s not for me. One of those non-queer jobs that you keep hearing about. But, I still have secret dreams that Alex is going to pull the old switcheroo on me and shockingly Spooky will turn out to be gay….. or Bi….. Bi is good.

Fortunately, I LOVE me some Paul.

So, I’m saved there. And, honestly, I think Paul would be a good balance for our wide-eyed pure paladin-like Kyle. There’s enough tough pragmatist in Fluke, that he’d keep our boy Kyle from flying off after every cat caught stuck in a tree. You know, just a bit of loving balance — provided by the occasional ass-kicking that everyone needs from their partner in the appropriate manner (it’s Paul’s serious tough look that causing this… I’ll get over it).

But I still dream of Spooks… (cough) AND THE FAT LADY HASN’T POSTED THE LAST PAGE YET!!!!! Oh, I’m so SORRY Alex, that so didn’t come out the way I meant it to at all. Trying again…

AND THE PARTY ISN’T OVER UNTIL THE LAST PAGE IS POSTED! So, there is still hope for my Spooky… chapters and chapters of hope. (I’m fooling myself aren’t I? Well, it wouldn’t be the first time).

*chris goes back to looking at Paul’s determined and highly kissable face in that last panel…*

  • John

Oh god. The eyebrow. It’s up

Dammit I wish I could do that.

Still that IS a good question. It seems the best way (the key if you will) is to take the OTHER key from Anni and platy but I suspect interrupting whatever ritual they use to open the Occulis Infernum (If I spelt that right) could work as well, and may be more effective as I’d imagine Kyle would get a hellish powerup from even a partial portal.

Can they not get help from the adult heroes?

    • Choreocrat

Even if you can’t do the eyebrow, your avatar can.

      • John

Yeah but then I lose gormless Deacon. I love gormless Deacon. He’s so gormless. Silly Deacon.

    • You are so right. I never saw the delicious EYEBROW.

And, yes, awesome avatar. Oh, fun, I also never thought of an open door causing a power-up. Thasss cool. As is, Occulis Infernum.

Never thought about the adult Supes… wonder if The Commander will address that somehow?

      • John

I always spot them as I’m so indescribebly, out-of-controllingly jealous of people who CAN do it.

Thanks; I can’ claim the credit; it’s an old Artifice Avatar, but I reread it, and remembered why I liked it so much 🙂

    • stickfigurefairytales

I know! I am so jealous of people who can raise a single eyebrow. I want to be able to make more eloquent facial expressions, dangit!

      • SofiaT

I could always lift my eyebrow, so I find it strange that some people can’t.
Of course, I can only lift the left eyebrow so I guess I should get down from my high horse.

        • stickfigurefairytales

That probably just means you’re left-eyebrowed.

          • SofiaT

            Fitting, since I’m also left-handed. 😀

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Me too! High five!

          • SofiaT

            Left five!

          • Jakk Anthony Guzman

I am right handed and can only raise my left eyebrow. I’ve read that most people have better control of the left side of their face. For example, the left side of their mouth pulls more when they smile giving some a slightly uneven smile, or the left eye squinting more than the right you can see that in pictures of people.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Interesting…we will have to investigate this eyebrow-raising phenomenon on a larger scale if we are to find any definitive pattern.

          • John

How odd. My right-hand mouthyparts is the bit I use most; my left only gets involved when I’m REALLY feeling it (thats by choice, mind you, not design)

Still I’ve always favoured the right-hand side of my face for expression inasmuch as that is possible.

          • Which is funny cause I’m right handed and I can only lift my right eyebrow.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Have we just discovered a new rule of how eyebrow-raising abilities work?!

          • We need to test this hypothesis… Because that would be awesome

          • stickfigurefairytales

We’ve got to acquire data from people who can independently raise either eyebrow, and cross-reference that with their preferred hand for writing and throwing, whether they have a dominant foot in kicking, and whether or not they’re a switch hitter (in baseball! we won’t be factoring sexuality into this study until we get proper funding!)

          • I wonder how we could start gathering the data? A four or five question poll? Science project! The correlation between raising left or right eye brow with left or right handedness.

          • I would just like to say I am primarily right handed, but by inclination, the left brow is usually the one that lifts, but upon trying I was able to do it with the right, but it feels like more work.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Interesting…

          • I don’t think our hypothesis is working out very well. 🙁

          • stickfigurefairytales

That’s okay – disproving hypotheses and then coming up with new ones is all part of the scientific process.

          • True, true…

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Science!

          • Yay, science!

          • Choreocrat

This lefty can raise either one independently, but the left is slightly easier and more natural feeling.

          • Sethron A Bowman

I lift my left and am right handed. I have messed up the pattern, but I may be an outlier.

          • stickfigurefairytales

That’s okay – we’re merely testing a hypothesis at this point.

          • I feel certain that this is foreshadowing and it means something dire… I suspect you have unknown super powers that are going to manifest soon and events will happen.

People will wander about and notice your outlier ways and mutter “Oh no it’s the power…….” under their breath.

Well, nothing to be done. Please be sure to write us and tell us what your super power turns out to be. Before we read about it in the papers.

(It’s actually so cool, I’m envious). *grins*

            Best,
            CD

I can lift either eyebrow alone, but only slightly. I am right handed and left eyed. The latter is probably due to an injury. I did not even know about right or left eyedness before the inlury.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Hmm…intriguing.

      • Ho-hum, I am ambi-eyebrowed and can lift both together quite easily… but that’s how I roll.

        • stickfigurefairytales

But can you lift each one independently of the other?

          • That would be most illogical…………

          • John

If extremely sexy and expressive 😛

      • Nah, it’s just one more place to gain wrinkles. 😛

      • Cydney Sabin

I can lift both separately, though I can lift my right one a lot easier than my left one for some weird reason…

        • stickfigurefairytales

For the purposes of science, does that fit with your general dominant side (being right-handed, etc.)?

          • Cydney Sabin

Unsurprisingly, yes. I’m right-hand dominant. However, I’m slightly left-eye dominant. Probably because of the astigmatism in my right eye.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Makes sense.

    • EyeDontNo

The Adult heroes are off planet on some sort of cross-dimensional identity crisis at the moment. (Possibly an incident created by Duncan/PP as a diversion.) [As mentioned during Kyle’s Hong Kong adventure.] The junior hero groups are all that stands between him and his goals, as the more ‘vigilante’ types are less organized (by definition of vigilante) and therefore less likely to notice the situation until it is too late.
I don’t know if the phrase ‘adult heroes’ in this context means only the North American Hero Groups, or all Hero Groups worldwide. That distinction has not yet been clarified by WoG.

      • Klaus

I don’t think Duncan and PP arranged the identity crisis. I think whoever is behind the ploty Duncan hinted at in the chapter 2 arranged it. Maybe as part of the plot, maybe as a diversion.

        • John

Thank you both, I completely forgot about that.

I imagine, then, that we WILL see some vigilantes ‘helping’. If they’re anything like Tweedle dum and Tweedle dummer maybe we’ll be better off without.

  • b3nc0

In the first panel, Kyle reminded of someone (it took a lil’ while to retrieve it) (& I ain’t sure of its English name) the Stone Giant in the Neverending Story after the Nothing took the nomade & his bat and the tiny man & his racing snail from his grasp…
“They look like big, good, strong hands don’t they?” (or something like that, still from the French dubbing)

      • Thank you both… that was fun. Kyle’s hands do look good in P#1 don’t they?

chris goes off to start a list of things Kyle should do with those hands…………..

        • b3nc0

Thanks for uplifting… the mood, shall we say.
do you mind sharing a tissue box?

          • My pleasure, b3nc0. I do my best and “the mood” is important for some of us and I really mean that. And, no need for tissues… crying towels are multi-purpose items. If puberty taught us nothing else, it taught us that. LOL.

*chris bows his head in dignity*

I shall say no more… *grins*

          • Just makes sure to wash them ^_^

    • Choreocrat

Kyle consistently reminds me of a younger version of Dash Mihok, which I’m perfectly happy with.

      • b3nc0

Thanks for uplifting the mood b^^
Yep there certainly is something of a Dash in Kyle, Hell (sorry, too soon) he even has a hero-ish name, hasn’t he?

    • Sapfo

      Stone Giant = Rockbiter.
and yes, now that you have said this. I can see the Rockbiter in him.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0VxGRWPh28

      • Sapfo! That chat I opened earlier is still open if you wanna join me?

      • b3nc0

        Thanks.
I can even hear him in Kyle in recent pages, “I failed”, “I thought that I was a hero” = “I always thought that’s what they were”…

      • Choreocrat

It was always this one that made me cry (and half the rest of the world).
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT4FFQ3Ugfc

        • Yes. Always teared up at that part.

        • b3nc0

          Bwaa-waa-waa
Had to give up at 1:30
          TTATT

    • stickfigurefairytales

You’re going to make me cry by bringing up that scene. T_T

      • b3nc0

        I REGRET NOTHING‼
do you mind sharing a tissue box?

        • stickfigurefairytales

          *passes you some tissues*

  • I just want to say thank you so much for everyone that wished me a Happy Birthday the other day. I was not expecting the amount of bday wishes that I got, especially from everyone from TYP. 🙂

    • SofiaT

      a. You’re welcome!
      b. Get used to it. That’s the TYP fandom 🙂

    • What Sofia said!!

    • Denise Cruz

      Sofia is ALWAYS right! 🙂

      • SofiaT

        “Always”, LOL.
        I like that. 😛

        • Denise Cruz

Well…it seems pretty right for me. At least here! 😉

          • SofiaT

No, no, no, don’t take it back now.

I’m always right. Not just here. All the time.

          • Denise Cruz

XDDDD I’m not taking anything back, honey! You ARE ALWAYS right! (Although, I really meant it just for right here! XDD) Anyway… (continence to Sofia T!)

  • Nasro Subari

Spooks: “So, Kyle, now that we’ve settled that you ARE Hellspawn, maybe you should get a badass face tattoo…?”

  • Simba

I can only camp for a little while as I have a board game night to get to with my other buddies. I will check in though. 🙂

    • Which board games are you having?

      • Simba

I got Tsuro of the Seas for Xmas and haven’t had a chance to play it yet, so I’m excited! 🙂

        • Sounds fun, let us now how it is!

        • I got my brother and SIL Tsuro (the original) from Xmas. I need to ask them if they’ve played or not. It look tons fun.

  • Holly

    I REMEMBERED!!! *sets up camp*

    • Hey Miss Holly! I just woke up from a nap. ^_^

      • Holly

        how was your nap Doki?!

        • Not too bad. Almost didn’t wanna wake up though. That I actually took one kinda surprised me, I was only up for 5 hours after sleeping for 8ish when I conked out.

          • Holly

I slept for 14 hours yesterday and I feel weird now.

          • Yeah, I kinda need a job so I can get back on a semi normal sleeping regimen.

          • Holly

I need a job so I can pay bills etc. But I get a feeling i’ll get one of those jobs that has my schedule all over the place. lol

          • That too. I know it might effect my getting hired, but I am going to restrict my available hours to 8-6. This might be able to change in the future, but right now with my limitations on travel, this would be best.

          • Holly

I pretty much told everywhere I was available always. Except during play practices

    • Woohoo! I think that desire to faint is passing.

  • Please please please please let Mitch be on the next page.

    I am missing him lots.

    • Steven K.

Of course having Mitch and Kyle on the same page – or (someone fan me!) together in the same panel might send me into adorability overload. Even just all that cute wavy hair between them.

    • silibub

Me too! Although I get the sense that we might have to wait a bit longer until these three have hashed out the situation a bit more…*pout*

      • Steven K.

You are probably right, so I’m putting myself down for a *pout* as well.

      • I can kind of see him busting in on this scene going “Of course they can!”

        • silibub

Yeah, I’m still holding out hope that he’ll crash in there and interrupt! (And Fluke can be like, dude, aren’t you supposed to be KEEPING WATCH?)

          • Steven K.

And he’d say: “But y’all promised me that once we know Kyle is doing all right and gets suited up, we’d all work this out together, and that you’d be sure to tell him I’m here for him – whatever might be the case. So – Kyle – they didn’t exactly tell me what was going on, but I’m with you, and on your side, and AT your side, NO MATTER WHAT – and I’m going to help you fight that fuck-head that did you harm – whatever THAT takes!!!”

    • Denise Cruz

Me too! That kid captivated everyone around here…

  • Well it looks like Top Web Comics has reset the voting numbers again. Now’s a good the time to vote if you haven’t done so today. —->

    • Steven K.

Oh – is that what happened? I was wondering about that.

  • Denise Cruz

    Hi, everyone!

I almost can’t believe that I lived long enough to see the largest Brazilian television network showing a gay kiss (BL) in so called primetime! For the first time ever! Yay! 😀
    Very cute!

    • YAY!!

      • Denise Cruz

        It was fast, but adorable!

        • It’s a start! And Yay for adorable!

          • Denise Cruz

            Exactly my point! It’s a start! 😉

    • Yay!

    • Steven K.

So many of those Brazilian boys are SUPER-HOT (and intact)!

      • Denise Cruz
        • Steven K.

Nice when a bit scruffy like that as well.

          • Denise Cruz

They were in a beach! ^^

      • silibub

        Intact?

        • Steven K.

If you are somewhere other than the U.S. that might not have a lot of meaning for you, cuz most guys are that way so it’s nothing unusual. Unfortunately, in the U.S., things are different. Though that was me just being slightly naughty and referring to the fact that in Europe, South America, etc. (unless they are Jewish), most guys haven’t undergone that barbaric practice of, without being given any choice in the matter, as infants, having the distal part of their manhood put under the knife and the foreskin removed.

          • silibub

Oh, right, so uncircumcised? Man, I don’t even have the requisite equipment to have a meaningful opinion on the matter, but I’m really against the practice. It just seems wrong to make such a dramatic, permanent choice for someone who can’t consent…

          • Steven K.

Exactly. Even if just for that reason alone.

          • Cydney Sabin

I’d hardly call the practice “barbaric.” That seems a bit…well, I don’t want to say “bigoted,” but that’s all my tired brain can think of…

          • It’s completely banned in Netherlands now, and there’s a lot of talk about making it very restricted/banned in other (North) European countries.
In Denmark there’s been talk about doing like Netherland or almost fully banning it. Making it only allowed for medical reasons later on, and if on babies for religious reasons then the one performing it has to have gone through a medical training to do it. Aka. not every rabbi or what ever priest is allowed.
Actually the last one with almost banning it will just be a stricter version of the current rules when it comes to boys. Making prison an option there too, as it is with female circumsition.
Makes it kinda ‘funny’ because it’s done so commonly in US when it’s not even needed. In some ways many here DO see it as ‘babaric practice’ if there’s no need to do it.

          • Cydney Sabin

My cousin was never… ahem… surgeoned… and that apparently caused problems. I know it’s not common, but it happened. And that’s the reason my mother decided to… prevent said problems for her children.

          • Yes, as I said. It’s being done here on a person if it cause medical problems. No problems then.
Wouldn’t mean the next kids could just have it done becuase of that. The chance of it happening to more than one is tiny, and if it did it would be fixed.
Your mom felt otherwise, so apprently had it done 😉

Edit: Here that wouldn’t be allowed.

          • Cydney Sabin

I’m neither happy nor unhappy. I just wonder sometimes.

        • Steven K.

And hopefully Alex doesn’t design out hero-boys to be not-intact. Or maybe, having a particular superpower also comes with the power that, if someone tries to do that to you (make you not intact), things miraculously “grow back”.

          • silibub

It might be a mix, some circumcised, some not? I guess I don’t really have an aesthetic preference — not really my area, LOL!

          • Denise Cruz

XDD “…things miraculously “grow back”.” –
            That’s a power, uhn?!

        • A none neutered dog or ungelded horse?

          • silibub

Something like that, I guess! (eta: although I thought neutering/gelding meant removing the testicles, not the foreskin or anything to do with the penis itself?)

          • Well yes that’s exactly what gelding and neutering means and why I’ve always taken the term “intact” to mean a horse or dog that was well intact, not neutered or gelded.. I’ve never heard it used in regards to a man’s foreskin

          • silibub

Oh, I gotcha — ha, I’d never heard the term used period, although I figured circumcision is what Steven meant. It’s good to have that further clarification, though, thanks!

          • Ha! Are you certain? 😛

          • Steven K.

            She’s correct of course.

          • Steven K.

Well, I guess now you have ;). In my opinion, if a fellow has had his foreskin taken, he’s not fully or completely “intact”. At least something is missing.
And, in my experience, it’s not uncommon in the gay community to refer to things with that word if there hasn’t been any foreskin removal done.

          • Steven K.

We just kind of assume (if one isn’t having a discussion in a transgendered community or context or with a transgendered person) that the other bits are still there. I’m sure you have an intuitive sense that testicle removal – even among us crazy humans – is much more rare a thing, but that foreskin removal is insanely more common.

          • davefragments

It happens for cancer treatments and for transgendered folk who wish to be of the opposite sex (body dysmorphia and all that) there are certain people want to be free of the effects of testosterone and still remain male.

          • Steven K.

Yep – but much less common than circumcision in a more general society context (in the U.S.).

          • Steven K.

Ummm….I’m not talking about something quite that dramatic/extreme – or with quite as severe ramifications – but still a bit of mutilation nonetheless.

          • Steven K.

“Just” the prepuce, not the gonads.

          • That’s how I’ve always heard the word used. Intact means intact.

          • Steven K.

Well, I’m assuming it goes without saying that THOSE parts (the gamete-producing organs) are still intact, regardless of whether the foreskin has been removed or not. We are not quite that barbaric yet to be neutering/gelding our infant males, even though that other practice – of circumcision – does seem to still be widely carried out and accepted in the U.S.

          • Librarican

I wasn’t sure where to interrupt the conversation to bring to light that they do various removals and altering of reproductive “parts” to females in other countries as well, from sewing things shut to actual removal.

  • Holly

Tonight is not only the Black Moon, but it is a Super Moon. A Black Super Moon is super awesome and rare. More rare than even a Super Blue Moon.

    • Steven K.

Does that mean it’s going to burst into flames and transform into a giant floating eyeball?

      • Holly

I don’t think so…. Maybe? WHat DAY is Kyle’s birthday exactly?!

  • Since someone *cough cough* Chris *cough cough* was saying something about camping causing weight gain…..I have carrots to share tonight.

    • Denise Cruz

XDDDD Also…palmetto and fruit salad, maybe?!

      • Only if someone else brings them.

        • Denise Cruz

          I’m on it! 😉

      • Steven K.

I’d take any pineapple or grapes or pears or tangerines.

        • Denise Cruz

Mix them all! It’s gonna be great! 😀

        • Steven K.

I guess the season for caramel covered apples is past – gosh dern it – but that wouldn’t be too healthy anyway I suppose.

          • Denise Cruz

People are scared to get chubby… so… caramel isn’t in the menu, tonight! — pushes the bowl of fruit salad for Steven– u.u

          • Steven K.

Thanks – I can settle for that 😉 Though maybe I might sneak in a tiny dollop of whipped cream.

          • Denise Cruz

Since you don’t let Chris see it… 😉

          • Steven K.

He doesn’t have to worry about getting chubby – he already has a loving husband – and when you have someone that feels that way about you, unconditionally, they tend to forgive a little bit of flab. Seems to happen to most heterosexual men after they get married, so I suppose it may not be too different with gay couples as well.

          • Denise Cruz

Well… I totally agree with you, but he was the one complaining about getting chubby, so… 😉

  • Sapfo

    Good Morning Campers!

Have completed the first working week and am completely sore in my body.
However found a podcast that has entertained me when I commuted. “Welcome to Night Vale”.

    A review of night vale
    http://www.thebacklot.com/video/needs-more-gay-welcome-to-nightvale/

    • silibub

That podcast is so good! Weird, dark, and incredibly charming.

      • Sapfo

Yay! Someone else how knows about it. ^_^

        • silibub

Yeah! I haven’t listened to some of the more recent episodes, though — I really need to catch up. I’m glad you found it, though, since I think they do a terrific job and deserve a lot of exposure!

          • Sapfo

I love the voice and the music is good. I will really have to like into hows behind the music.

          • silibub

I think they link to the songs and artists on the site, but searching for “Night Vale music” will probably bring up the performers. It’s pretty cool how they let anyone submit their songs, it’s a great way to promote artists who otherwise wouldn’t have their stuff out there.

    • Its Sapfo!!!!!! Yay!!

      • Sapfo

        Hi Doki!

        • Your sore is probably a lot better than my sore. Though now it seems centered upper back on the left. The neck and stomach are a bit less sore, but that back seems a little worse. Some trade off huh?

          • Sapfo

Nope, I did that kind of soreness in November. Dont need it again. But thank you for offering. ^_^

  • Just wondering, but has anyone heard anything from my brother Vile?

    • Sapfo

      No, Sorry.

      • I haven’t heard anything from him since he added me on facebook. 🙁

  • Sapfo

I have been contemplating a new lifestyle.WIth all this snow I wonder if I could make a good Polar bear. Polar Bears are warm right?

    • and cute. ^_^

    • Steven K.

And snuggly if they don’t rip you apart.

      • Sapfo

        Or eat their young ones….

      • Sapfo

        Thank you AJ!
Babbie animal are (most of them) so cute! ^_^

        • Yes yes they are

          • Sapfo

I want a bear hug! Wonder if my fav bear is here?
            Mr. Adam?

          • Haven’t seen him for a bit. Hmm.

          • Sapfo

He comes and goes when ever he wants to. There is no taming that man. ^_~

          • Is there taming any man?

          • Cydney Sabin

            Jane tamed Tarzan. Just saying.

          • Well I suppose there is that.

          • Sapfo

Don´t really know. My brothers seems kind of tame this days. And they use to be a bit wild.

          • I think men slow down, don’t know if they’re ever truly tamed. Well at least in their fantasies. 😀

          • Sapfo

I think they fell in love and even if they are not tame, they want to please their wifes. (atleast my brothers that is)

          • Maybe tame is the wrong word. 😀 But pleasing a wife is of course a good thing. 🙂

    • Librarican

I have a disfunctional fireplace at the moment, and it feels like it is taunting me… “You had visions of curling up next to the fire on cold winter nights? Too bad so sad, no can do for you.”

      • Sapfo

        That´s Evil!
I am so sorry to hear that. I love a good fire.

        • mmmm yes, I love watching the flames

        • Librarican

I do too! I moved into this place in July, and my AC clunks out. Then once it turns cold, my fireplace quits. It’s trying to turn me cold blooded!

          • Sapfo

I wish you luck fixing it for next year.
You should have a good AC and fireplace.

          • I think I was born cold blooded. ^_^

      • DC

not quite the same as the real thing but….
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI__53kBBKM

        • Librarican

rubs hands vigorously and grabs the marshmallows
          Why isn’t it working?!

  • jreed3842

Hi! Fellow campers! How is everyone tonight?!

    • Sapfo

All is great over the timezones ^_^

      • jreed3842

        Woo-hoo!

    • SofiaT

I just had some pizza I baked.
Homemade pizza is the best 😀

      • What toppings?

        • SofiaT

My half had bacon, mozarella and fresh tomato.
My friend’s half had mushroom too.

          • I like your half, never have been a fan of mushrooms. ^_^

          • SofiaT

Me neither. I mean, it’s fungi. Bliah.

      • Yes, yes it is. I’m having oven baked eggplant and chicken parmigiana.

        • Sapfo

And I am having a cup of coffee. <..>
          I am not sharing! >_<

          • Coffee is not to be shared…:P

          • Sapfo

            Thank you AJ.
But some day I would like to taste your coffee ^_^

          • Well do you find yourself in my neck of the woods, I’d gladly share some!

          • Sapfo

            In the future. How knows.

          • Exactly!

          • Not even with me Sapfo? 🙁

          • Sapfo

            MY COFFEE!

Okay, just a little bit of it…

          • *takes a very small sip* Thank you!

        • SofiaT

          That’s second best!
As long as it’s from a good place 😉

          • Madock345

I just had some pizza I walked downstairs and bought. (Dorm life has it’s advantages.)

Is three enough to declare an official Pizza Party?

          • SofiaT

Even one is enough for a Pizza Party!

All you need is the pizza 😀

          • Chibi

it was from a good place. It was very nummy

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Delicious!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      I’m a little late, but I’m good!

  • I reappear for camping and break my almost silence for the last couple of days. Sorry if anyone has been worried from me not replying to them.

I’ve just had a couple bad days personally (can’t/won’t give details currently except it’s not something at work) and they were followed by a sick day today. Probably a mix of fever from standing almost an hour in the cold thursday waiting for a bus and stress from the previous two days :-/
Just slept about ..18 out of the last 24 hours. That has helped. First problem causing the bad mood hasn’t been resolved. I’ll have to go with what happens in the next weeks time and take it from there.

Really looking forward to a new page today.

    • Sapfo

      Good morning Danish!
      Hope you feel better now.

      • Physically, yes 🙂
My little outburst on twitter wednesday still counts though. Not something quick or easily resolved. I might tell you more in private next week when I know where this is going. It’s just not something I want to share at this moment. Besides, I don’t want to ruin my camp.

        • Sapfo

Did you get a the sticker thought?

          • They’re at the post office. I have to go get them 🙂 Of course I went there tuesday to pick up something else, and when I got home there was the note about yours trying to be delivered that day xD So now I have to go again.
My post office happens to be the one where I have to take two busses to go. I’m just at the edge of that district so the easy accessible one I’m close to every day isn’t the one to have it >.>

          • Sapfo

Well, then you have something to lookforward to. even ifyou have to travle some for it.
Now lets camp like there is no tomorrow… which I hope there will be ^_^

    • silibub

I’m really sorry to hear things have been rough for you, Danish…I hope your situation continues to improve, and I’m glad you at least got some rest. Good to see you here!

    • *hugs* Feel better Danish love!

    • stickfigurefairytales

I’m sorry things have been tough for you lately, Danish, and I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*

  • PFG9000

First time camping. Been having a rough year so far, Wednesdays and Saturdays are bright spots for me. Thought a little early cheer might be in order..

    • Sapfo

      Welcome to camping!
the first rule of camping is….. what are the rules of camping?
      Anyway, I have some cookies.
      And again Welcome.

      • PFG9000

        Hooray cookies. Chocolate. Marshmallows… Fiiiiire.

    • Steven K.

I can empathize! It’s been like that for me as well.

      • PFG9000

I’m sorry to hear that. 2014 has been tough for a lot of people around me. My best friend’s cat is dying, her fiance’s best friend has a bad brain tumor, my husband is in jail… Yup life is upside down.

        • Steven K.

Awww – sorry that you are experiencing so much negativity – no stranger to that lately here either. But we just have to hope that each day brings the possibility for change in a more positive direction. And believe me., as someone who is naturally inclined to be somewhat pessimistic, that’s not easy for me to say. But the alternatives are worse. But this is a very nice and supportive community, and losing myself here for awhile a few times a week has helped me and hopefully tends to help you out as well.

          • PFG9000

I’ve been hoping for the best and expecting the worst. I’ve been very ill for a long time and with my husband gone it’s been a rough road taking care of not only myself but my son and dealing with all the worries that come. Of course I’m mad at my hub for being a complete idiot but the best I can do is deal with the cards in my hand. I’ve not said much at this community but it seems nice.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’m sorry things are so rough for you and those around you. I know it probably doesn’t help much, but would you like an internet hug?

          • PFG9000

            Yes please *opens arms*

          • stickfigurefairytales

            *hugs you*

          • Steven K.

I can empathize about the health issues. I have a genetic kidney abnormality and had to start dialysis this last summer., which has been a total drag, and I have not had much in the way of close personal support from anyone other than my elderly mom, and I’m supposed to be the one taking care of HER. Hopefully we’ll all get through these tough times. Best wishes and hopes to you. And yeah – they do like to give internet hugs around here 😉

          • stickfigurefairytales

Internet hugs for you too, Steven. *hugs*

  • davefragments

Punxsutawney Philomena is getting ready to rise from her (not his. The males bite real bad) hovel (cage) in two days. Then we will know with a 38% chance just what he weather will be the next day or two or week.

    • PFG9000

Does spring ever come early enough?

  • Sapfo

So… what do you think is going to happen when they tell Amanda about what happened?

    • silibub

If she’s as reasonable a team leader as I suspect she is, I’m guessing some deep breaths, an assessment of what’s happening and what they can/need to do, and then…action time!

    • SofiaT

Will they tell Amanda what happened?

      • Sapfo

If they dont tell her I think she will find out anyway.

        • Madock345

Yeah, hard to keep secrets with a telepath on the team. I wonder if Kyle has realized that there is no way she doesn’t know he’s gay already.

    • davefragments

Are they going to explain the situation to Flyboy? I suspect since he’s underage Fluke hid the love affair aspect from him. It’s going to be interesting all around.

      • Sapfo

Poor Mitch, he is going to feel left out when he finds out what they been hidding from him.

        • Steven K.

          I know!

    • stickfigurefairytales

I hope she takes it somewhere near as well as Paul and Spooky have. *crosses fingers*

  • Holly

sorry I am not participating in the camp. I kind of had an existential crisis breakdown thing. But it is okay! for now. WOOO CAMPING I hope Mitch will show up soon.

    • Sapfo

All our love to the young flying boy. ^_^

      Holly?

      • Holly

        YES MUCH LOVE.

        Sara?

        • Sapfo

I dont know how you are talking about.
          <..>

          • Holly

            Saf?!

          • Sapfo

            Yes dear! ^_^

          • Holly

NO, you asked me a question first. you were all “Holly?”

          • Sapfo

Oh so you could not read my mind then… that is od? I was thinking the question so hard….
(Sorry, was wondering if you where okay)

          • Holly

Yeah I’m okay. It’s just a lot of disheartening stuff and a lot of things are coming to a head and i was tired.

            But it’s cool now.

          • Sapfo

            That is good!
Btw, I think you would like Welcome to Night Vale.
In ep 5, about 8 min in, there is a section about the moon that made me think about you and George.
            It made me laught. 😉

          • Holly

            ALL HAIL THE GLOW CLOUD!

          • Holly

Oh that sounds interesting tell me about it…

          • Sapfo

I dont want to tell to much. But I found Night vale thought this review. So watch it and see if you might like it also.

            http://www.thebacklot.com/video/needs-more-gay-welcome-to-nightvale/

          • Holly

…you totally missed me hailing the glow cloud. Yes, I am a fan of Nighvale. I live in Nightvale. I am a member of the Sheriff’s Secret Police. I am not a Member of the Sheriff’s Secret Police. No one told you that. Ignore this.

(Yeah I have been listening to the podcast for about a year. I’m like 3 episodes behind right now though)

          • Sapfo

Thats better then my. But i just found it. But then there might not have been anything to find. So if I did find something, might it be that I was not aware that it should not have been found. Or did I place it there myself?
Further investigation must be done about this.

          • Holly

            ALL HAIL THE GLOW CLOUD

    • Madock345

:/ Sorry you’ve been having trouble. Hopefully you’ll start feeling better real soon.

      • Holly

I feel better now as I have a backup plan. Thank the Powers that be for my family. they are supportive as hell.

    • *hugs* It wasn’t my fault was it?

      • Holly

NO! It wasn’t about work. It was about school. But I’m cool. I have a back up plan.

    • silibub

Sorry about that, Holly! But it sounds like you’ve got a plan and support, so I hope things are looking up now.

      • Holly

Pretty much I’m like Kyle and the Gang right now. There is hope and i am feel great about that, but it’s going to be DIFFICULT.

  • SofiaT
  • Sapfo
  • SophiexBoo

Has Spooky’s hat got a picture of himself on it?!

    • Why yes, I do believe he does. Or at least a ghostly type version of him. 🙂

  • Miri

I suspect that this will be a slightly unpopular suggestion. but I’ve got a little theory growing that Duncan developed genuine feelings for Kyle. I don’t think he expected to, and he sees it as weakness, but as far as I can see, he has only told one outright lie to Kyle: whether or not he set the fire (Ch1, “I did not set the fire” – http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch1-page-25/ and Ch 2, “Actually, yes I did” – http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-31/). Even then… I wanted to go back and check the pages to see the wording. Because setting a fire and starting it are subtly different, and I can’t help wondering if he had initially denied doing one, but had done the other. (For instance, if somebody else set up something highly flammable, and he only lit the match (then maybe ran around for a bit to whip up the flames, before going home to change into his suit), he’d have started it, but he wouldn’t have set it. But by Ch 2, when he knows he has just betrayed the boy’s trust and feels like a heel, knowing full well that he’s about to shatter his heart and do psychological harm to him, the fact that he knows that, were Kyle fully aware of all the facts, in Kyle’s eyes, he’d be responsible for the whole thing, it being part of his plan and all, he may have confessed to it anyway. Either that, or this is the sort of language difference which a Brit would notice, but an American might not? In which case, Duncan is British… :-p )

When Kyle asked him to promise not to screw with him before the date, PP interrupted and he never got back to Kyle on that. He hasn’t ever broken a promise to Kyle.

If (and I agree it’s a big if) everything else that he’s told Kyle may have been misleading, but wasn’t untrue, I’d be very interested in his back story. From what he has said, and with a bit of filling-in-the-gaps…

A shy, quiet kid got picked on at school, and wished he had superpowers so he could teach his bullies a lesson. By the sounds of things, when he grew up, superheroes and villains only existed in comics (and presumably films). When he was around 12 years old, his powers manifested. He learnt that he was suddenly strong, invulnerable to injuries. Kids end up in hospital or dead as a direct consequence of bullying. What’s to say he didn’t discover his powers for the first time when he was on his own, and a big group of kids decided to violently beat him up? Only this time, it didn’t hurt. This time, they couldn’t knock him down. This time, he could stand up, shoved back – and put somebody who had tormented him for years through a wall. He didn’t know what was happening to him, or how long he’d be able to do this, He was still, mentally, a child and didn’t have an adult’s ability to reason about consequences. He was also pumped full of adrenalin and, probably a bit giddy, not entirely sure this wasn’t a dream. So he decided to make the most of it while it lasted – after all, if it was a dream, this’d be the closest he’d ever get to pay-back.

It wasn’t a dream. He almost definitely broke bones; he may well have killed somebody – or multiple somebodies. He wasn’t entirely sure how sorry he was – these people had made his life a living hell for years. Asking him, at the time, when it was pure chance he hadn’t ended up in hospital himself, to empathise with the people he had hurt may well have been far too big an ask. But his family were furious. People wanted to lock him up. From being the victim, he’d become the violent, vicious monster who wasn’t safe to be around “normal” people.

So he ran away. And it turned out, he was really fast. Picking pockets, taking what he wanted from shops? Not an issue. If anybody tried to mess with him, they soon realised they’d made a big mistake. I’d be surprised if people, who saw his strength and speed, that he couldn’t be hurt, etc., didn’t think he was a pawn they could use. He learnt that being strong was all that mattered. Money meant safety and security. Emotions were a sign of weakness.

He only became the Annihilator when he was 26 or 27. Approximately 15 years after he stopped being “normal” and, in his eyes, any chance of a life as a productive member of society ended. I’d be interested to know what he did before then, and what he was known as. It may be that it took until around then for metahumans to become common enough for a super-villain name not to seem incredibly, comic-book-corny. Duncan would not have been OK with people laughing at him behind his back.

Maybe it’s about then that he met up with Sircea. I don’t know if she is his sister – in that case, I suspect that she tracked him down and convinced him to team up. I do think it was the first time in a long time he had a glimpse of normalcy of sorts – an intellectual equal, who wasn’t afraid of him, who he could verbally (and possibly physically) spar with. I’m not surprised they got enthusiastic and robbed a lot of banks (even Fort Knox – I’m more surprised they only robbed it the once 😉 ).

Then, when he was around 52, he started to notice that he was getting weaker. Maybe just fractionally – but it was happening. He was starting to show signs of getting older, of slowing down. He confessed it to the one person who he could admit weakness to (without needing to kill them after), Sircea. She felt it too. He remembered what it was like to be weak. He remembered the disdain he’d felt, rising up criminal ranks to become one of the most feared and notorious super-villains in the world, for the weaker people he’d crushed on his way up. He was scared.

Then a story hit the news – a 12 year old boy had developed superpowers and had burnt his house down in the night, badly injuring his foster sister. Something struck a memory of something he’d read once. This boy… What had happened… He found the ancient passage. He did his research. He thought it was possible… He outlined a plan to Sircea. She put forth objections and arguments – but she was interested. If he was right, this could be the answer to all of their problems.

So he kept a close eye on the boy. For close to 6 years, he tracked the child, watched him grow up, sneered at the child’s efforts to become a superhero… And planned. And then, when the time was right – when the boy stepped into a gay bar and they had confirmation that he was the one who should bait the honey trap, he stepped into an alleyway.

And then, he learnt something. This boy who he’d tracked was nervous and shy and got tongue-tied, but had the courage of his convictions, asked the questions he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear the answers to, and was strong, brave, resourceful and loyal. He respected him. He liked him. He meant it when he said that Kyle was overwhelmingly defined by being good, and that this is incredibly rare. His plan meant that he needed Kyle to trust him. The part of him that had engaged in Robin Hood-type escapades wanted Kyle to trust him – and wanted to be worthy of Kyle’s trust (unless that was part of his long-term planning, when it became clear that Kyle wasn’t going to join the dark side, as a ploy to help impress him).

I would be interested to know what the “threats” he refers to before leaving Kyle are (http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch2-page-47/) – I imagine that, even though in light of everything, he wasn’t willing to offer them up as excuses, before the act, he used them to help persuade himself to go through with his plans. His primary motivation was his own fear, and I suspect that the idea of letting down the Platinum Princess would be about as palatable as the idea of ripping off one of his own arms off (slowly) – but while he was painting pictures of what might have been, those threats would have meant that he and Kyle couldn’t have a blissful, peaceful, safe future together. Why pine for something you can never have when you can take fate into your own hands? (Sure, things won’t turn out very well for billions, but most of those billions are faceless strangers. And really, what’s the difference between a billion strangers, and a million, and a hundred thousand, ten thousand, thousand, hundred..? And as he has said – most people aren’t truly innocent – they’re just woefully ignorant. How many not-so-innocent people who ignorantly tried to stand in his way as he hurt/destroyed/killed over the years? Ten, fifty, a hundred? Why, really, should he give up his dreams for ignoramuses?)

*wonders if this will be too long to post*

I don’t think this theory is wrong, especilaly not given what we see later in the story.

    Annihilate the Annihilator!

On re-reads, Spooky remains best character <3
