370 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 99

For those who don’t speak Seventh Circle of Hell, the minion says “Rawr!”

We now at $2408/month with 235 Patrons over at the Patreon Page! Our first Milestone Goal has already been triggered (Patrons now get to see the pencil art along with the colored art for each update). And Patrons who chose to receive the Special Digital Rewards (the vast majority) will get to see a special, shirtless, sneak peek image of Flyboy this Sunday (for Sneak Peek Sundays)!

That also means we’re just $592/month away from turning The Young Protectors into a permanent twice-weekly comic and only $92/month away from unlocking the safe-for-work Digital Kickstarter Rewards for Patrons Milestone Goal! We’re so close to getting all the art and web hosting for this comic paid for (which would be a huge step to making things sustainable!) and that’s because YOU ALL ARE AMAZING! THANK YOU!

There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron, and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits!),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron. 🙂

We had our eightieth bonus page in a row on Wednesday. And thanks to your generous donations, and in addition to our regular Saturday updates, we’ve got two more bonus pages “in the bank”: one on Wednesday, January 28th (page 100!), and the last one (page 102!) will be on Wednesday, February 4th!

I want to send out my warmest thank yous out to all the new Patrons who have joined in the last few days. As you can see in the comments below, a bunch more folks have had a blue, silver, or gold YP badge added to their Disqus avatars, which means they are a Patron. If you see one of these folks, please join me in extending my thanks for directly supporting the making of this comic! And please also send out a special thanks to those exceptionally generous backers who are on the Leaderboard of Awesome page. You all ROCK!

So! Looks like our heroes are kicking ass and taking names, and everyone’s getting their chance to lay the smack down. Do our poor, ancient super-villains stand any chance against the vigor of these upstarts?

Tune in next Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Holy jeebus 🙂

    • Sapfo

      Darn you sneaky wolf!

    • Sneaky XD

      • *lol* In my mind I was seeing someone come first because it didn’t want to post the first time I clicked it.

        • I have been reading/writing fan fics all night, so distracted and late to the party XD

  • Sapfo

    Fire and water!

  • DC

    Good move Fluke

  • Ha! I love how Tsu just backhanded the minion with the water.

    • DC

Yeah three in one oh so casual move, and Fluke got three in one shot too.

    • His expression there is wonderful. 🙂

  • Everything is going just a bit too well… and I’m worried for Spooky! *nervous until we see him again* Also wondering how Kyle torching the book will/if it will effect anything…

  • davefragments

That is just so much fun to see.

  • syllibub

They’re definitely on a roll. My back’s getting locked up from tension, waiting for the other shoe to drop — spare one of those minions for a massage? They’re just lying there anyway…

    • D. Garrett

i think they r so sore and beaten they may ask u for a massage (and first aid, lol) instead!

  • Sapfo

I did a fast translation of what that minion is saying, and he is saying: “ODPS: Z!” (I think Alex was wrong in his translation)
I hope you all can analyz this and make it understandable for me also. Please? Anyone? <.<`

    • Alex posted on Patreon, “For those who don’t speak Seventh Circle of Hell, the minion says “Rawr!” 😉

      • Sapfo

Is that what ODPS: Z sounds in Seventh? Wow. o.O

    • Klaus

Looks more like ODPSO to me. That would be the Order of Damned Pseudooracles. (Well, more like Damp Pseudooracles right now).

  • syllibub

Seriously though, what an awesome action page! I love how everything flows, and you can actually feel how the Protectors have settled into the rhythm of the fight. I really enjoy Amanda mind-zapping that minion in the bottom-left panel, too — it’s cool to see how she blends her powers in with her combat style.

Anyway, I’ve been hoping to see Sircea speak again, but I get the sense that when she does, it’ll mean things are about to take an ugly turn for the heroes. I’m perfectly happy to watch them smack mooks around until then!

    • timemonkey

She may not be able to so long as Kyle keeps up the fire. No oxygen.

    • Why does that sound like a New York Times Bestseller to me? 🙂

SIRCEA SPEAKS her words, recorded and written by Sylllibub

An amazing behind the cape look at Earth’s longest living sorceress. Syllibub manages to get the notoriously publicity shy Mistress of Magik to discuss her origins, the source of her incredible power, whether she really is a Goddess, the creation of the hell-barrier and even a few details of her long-rumored affair with Solomon. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear the uncensored words of the Platinum Priestess herself as recorded and shared by the fearless Syllibub. It’s well known that previous biographers have not survived and/or remained sane after attempting to work with Sircea, so this is a definite first. A singular look at the dawn of time and the emergence of women of power. Find out which stories about Sircea are actually true. Tales straight from the Deadly Sorceresses mouth and deftly organized by Syllibub for your enjoyment. Syllibub also assures us that the only changes she’s made is to make sure that no spells of mallicoius power were slipped into the book by the crafty sorceress. In fact, Syllibub assures us that almost no one had to die to get this book written. In addition, 79% of the profits from this book’s sales are going to benefit the Plantinum Priestess Foundation and the Library of Power — An institution dedicated to the preservation, protection and containment of most of the world’s most dangerous books. A one of a kind library.

      • D. Garrett

        *look of awe….”wow!”

      • Nice. 🙂

      • syllibub

(omg I love you.) Thanks for the advertising, because pushing this thing through to the shelves was not a cakewalk.

[INT: EDITOR’S OFFICE — PP PUBLISHING

An UNSPEAKABLY WEARY EDITOR sits at a desk, running a hand through his hair, which has gone almost entirely gray over the course of a week. SYLLIBUB sits across from him with a thick manuscript on her lap, occasionally sipping from a comically oversized to-go
        coffee.]

EDITOR: Look, I’m not saying this isn’t excellent content, but after what happened to those interns and our copy editor—

SYLLIBUB: Ha! Rest in pieces, am I right?

EDITOR: –we just don’t — what? That’s…you’re terrible. This book is terrible, in the literal sense.

SYLLIBUB: Well yeah, what rough draft isn’t? I’m positive I caught all the curses this time, though, so no one else should…hm. How would you describe what happened? Because I’m thinking the word “splatter” but I don’t know if that really conveys –

        EDITOR: Please stop.

SYLLIBUB: –the violence and, like, immediacy of the – oh. Sorry. It’s tragic, really tragic.

        EDITOR: You’re smiling. A lot.

SYLLIBUB: Am I? Wow. No idea what that’s about.

EDITOR: Ugh. How did you even get this material? Everyone else who’s tried has wound up…well.

[A pause while both of them think “splatter.”]

SYLLIBUB: Yeahhh. See, anyone who wants to talk to her has to pass a trial, except apparently she rigged it so that it’s completely unsurvivable? So.

[She takes a long swig of coffee, but doesn’t elaborate.]

EDITOR: (excited) But what, you found a loophole? Beat her at her own game?

SYLLIBUB: Uh, not hardly. I died twice.

        EDITOR: …

SYLLIBUB: I was supposed to come back as a mindless revenant for her horde, but that part of it just. Didn’t take? So she killed me and revived me again, which I found pretty rude, but other than night terrors and occasionally coughing up black fluid, it didn’t really have an effect. So after that she was intrigued enough to answer a couple of questions. And I think I joined a cult in the process? Anyway, there’s a book now.

        EDITOR: …

SYLLIBUB: What I’m saying here is that I didn’t cheat death — twice — and indirectly murder at least three people for you to be a chickenshit about this, Tim.

        EDITOR/TIM: It’s Ted. There’s a nameplate right on my–

SYLLIBUB: Publish the fucking book, Ted.

See? It’s like pulling teeth with these people.

  • This page is utterly gorgeous (like that’s something new) with the flow of water and fire.

Kyle really like to burn PP’s things. First her cape, now the book. He’s so moving towards her least liked person.
Fluke in the last panel, I love him but I fear that might be the words he shouldn’t have said xD

I really need to become a patreon soon so I can see the sneak peaks!
Hopefully next month (*growls at the dollar price going crazy high*)

    • purplefoxglove

“Fluke in the last panel, I love him but I fear that might be the words he shouldn’t have said”

My thoughts exactly! He’s seriously challenging fate to pull the rug out from under him. As in, “what could possibly go wrong?”

      http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TemptingFate

  • TwilightDreamer

Love how well tsunami’s back hand is drawn.
Oh Fluke…*face palm*….couldn’t resist could you? ;P rofl

  • Hours Left

This has all been going too well. I feel like the tides are about to turn. O_O

    • stickfigurefairytales

      I know, right?

  • And Kyle got the book! The poor book. There it was minding it’s own business and now crispy pages. Just like Sircea’s cape!

    • Sapfo

      Book D,:

      • Poor poor book.

        • Sapfo

Did it have a name? Did anyone ask it for it´s name?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Bob. Bob the Book.

          • Sapfo

Bob…. I will miss Bob the book so much

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Poor sweet Bob.

          • I don’t know if one would call Bob sweet. I don’t know if Bob would like being called sweet. Bob was quite cantankerous.

          • Sapfo

Oh he is sweet! Lick him and you will see! O__O

          • Salty!

          • Sapfo

AJ! That is not the book, you are licking my fingers!

          • Then why do your fingers taste like old leather?

          • D. Garrett

aj i think u might have just exposed sapfo’s s&m habits…forgive her Sapfo! jk!

          • Adam Black

warning: you should never say that to another lady.
( edit Unless thats the name of their perfume )

          • “Old Leather” (?)

          • HA x 10!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Mmmm….forbidden knowledge…

          • Adam Black

            Love me some forbidden knowledge

          • HA!

          • DC

            He’ll taste like charcoal soon.

          • stickfigurefairytales

True. He was crotchety with age.

          • And creaky too!

          • I’m afraid in all the excitement it was overlooked

          • Sapfo

Sticky was fast. she got the name of Book.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            😀

          • Well she is a Librarian. Librarians are super that way.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            :DDDDD

          • Tyler Griffin

More importantly, was it bound in human flesh, and given as a gift to the Sanderson Sisters by Satan himsef?

          • and was there a free moving eye on it?

            Possibly related to George Finnegan?

      • davefragments

Some devil whispers the words in a wizard or witch’s ear and the fool writes it down in some book, calls the book unholy, and another mental midget blesses it, and the damn spell becomes real.

    • stickfigurefairytales

From a librarian’s perspective, I would have to give Kyle a very stern look. However, from a fan’s perspective (and someone interested in not living in a demon-annexed world), I’ll allow it.

      • Yeah, I’m torn as well. Stern look, and then a fist bump.

    • Let’s hope it didn’t contain the secret counterspell!

      • Unless it was like the Witch of the Waste and only knew how to cast spells, not remove them. o_O

    • Tyler Griffin

      *Winifred Sanderson voice* Oh, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!

  • James Wade

And now it’s time for all hell to break loose, probably quite literally. 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

I wonder how much Fluke’s powers tend to factor into typical hand-to-hand combat for him. Can he consciously choose what to use his powers on, or does it kick in automatically? Do you think that the better he got at fighting, the less his powers would activate for that?

    • Cydney Sabin

I’m thinking he has no “control” per se, but he can activate and direct it. Just my thoughts.

      • stickfigurefairytales

So that he could be like, “kick in!” or “kick in over there, for that person!”? That makes sense to me.

    • Tyler Griffin

I would assume that he can activate it as in to bless or curse his or someone else’s luck, but he has no control over the balancing actions that occur after.

  • Keneu

Now would be the best moment for the PP to strike back – Tsunami is distracted destroying the gate and smacking the minions, Kyle is looking at the book, and I guess Amanda can only attack one person at a time, but even if it wasn’t like that, it’d be hard for her to fight both physically and mentally against two different enemies at almost the same time, no less.

  • D. Garrett

omg tsu and fluke! awesome coolness. fluke is really strong to lift the minion and throw him, knocking down the other minions. and tsu is having such a bad ass moment. reminds me of wolverine in xmen when he has two guys at his claw length (one in front and one behind him.) really cool page!!!!

  • Hours Left

Oh, I just saw the Coming Out On Top banner ad here! Awesome!!!

That game is so amazing. I love it. <3

    • davefragments

Coming Out On Top has a “secret” bill label for those who want to hide from the world and then they have links to Facebook, twitter, tumblr, pintarest, and google plus.
That’s like the whole internet world, isn’t it?
      wink, wink

  • Eland

As a libra, I feel some pity for that henchmen, who speaks the language of our sign.. Hahah. ;D

    • stickfigurefairytales

Maybe that minion was just trying to tell Fluke about his horoscope?

      • Eland

“Avoid secluded ritual sites, and wearing the colour purple for prolonged periods of time. Your lucky numbers are…(all of them).” Okay, it turned a bit fortune cookie, I’ll admit.

        • stickfigurefairytales

“Hey, are you a Libra, man? Because I am totally compatible with Libras! We should get together some time.”

          • Eland

            I’ll ship it!

      • Samurai Jack

Speaking in tongues perhaps? “Laampros can be your lord and savior. Ask me how!”

  • Mary Klemzak

Oh lord, Fluke bids he just do a Dad Joke?!?

Tsunami is getting some more much needed love and respect from me.

Fluke? Don’t quit your day job to become a comedian, kay buddy?

  • D. Garrett

panel 3 tree: “aww shit! fire.” one sec later… “thank you lord, water!” … “wait a minute…wtf?!” haha!

  • stickfigurefairytales

Okay, I’m off to get some sleep. Goodnight, everybody!

  • Lovely page and all…but umm…are we going to see Mitch again soon?

    • D. Garrett

wb doki. hope u r feeling better.

      • eh, ish? Lying down for a bit helped, now I can sit at my computer until I need to lie down again.

        • D. Garrett

well im glad it at least helped some. did u put med in other ear too? i had an ear infection in both my ears last time i had it as well.

          • not yet. kind of iffy about putting medicine in it without knowing for sure.

          • D. Garrett

            i understand.

  • davefragments

Now who of the The Young Protectors (our heroes) is destroying the wiring and stopping the clock on the Human Sacrifice Chamber?

    • They have time, they have time. All the way to just before it say 00:00:01.

      • D. Garrett

        *giggles. galaxy quest.

        • LOL that part was sooo hilarious….

          • D. Garrett

ikr. i laughed so hard. its one of my fav movies.

  • I have to say I like Tsu’s water powers more and more by the minute. They sure come in handy some times *hur hur* 😉

That backlash water hand is like a smacker, taking three evil minions in one go just like flies.

    • Eland

Yes, and he looked so casual about it. Really makes you appreciate the power he lends the team.

  • D. Garrett

my body hurts just watching amanda. hella high kick! ouch. but i dont exercise or even stretch much. yeah. didnt make it as a new years resolution either. lol.

and isnt this the first time a minion has spoken?

  • Adam Irving

After that last panel, I hear Han Solo in my head saying “Great, kid. Don’t get cocky.”

  • ΩΔΨΩ is not a word.

I’ll also note that is at least two of the “tools” down, the book and the bone circle.

    • Eland

But is ♎ different from Omega? 😛

      • Technically, yes, but I don’t know of any word that starts with “Libra”, either.

        • Klaus

Maybe “rawr” is not a translation but a translitteration. What looks like a libra sign to us is the letter ‘R’ in the alphabet of the seventh circle of Hell.

          • There’s no letter like that in the Enochian alphabet, which is the only alphabet the Grigori would have known.

          • Shhh, the poor minion. He doesn’t know he’s saying it all wrong! He’d been practicing and practicing and when it counted, he flubbed it. 🙂

    • Klaus

Looks like a word to me.

      • SofiaT

My first thought was that it’s some mutation of the greek alphabet forming the word “ωδυω” (if you consider that third letter to be Υ instead of Ψ). Which means nothing in Greek, but transliterated into the Latin alphabet, would form the word “odio” = hate.

But that makes no sense, most likely the minion is simply screaming “Die!”.

        • Klaus

Alex has informed us that the language is 7th circle of Hell.

          • Nate

            Visual Basic?

          • Klaus

Looks more like APL top me.

          • Cydney Sabin

You sure it’s not just Wingdings Font?

  • Megan Staples

I love the last panel. Fluke’s grin is priceless.

    • Eland

We’ll see what it really costs him a bit later, maybe? 😉

  • Precious

Now that’s what you call a bish slap right there! 😀 And I have no clue as to why I yelled that and woke up the family :/ Oh well! They’re kicking butt!

    • davefragments

But it was a good yell!
      wink, wink

  • davefragments

    I have to go sleep.
    Enjoy the page.

  • Sheva Bree

Okay.. who else is waiting for the other shoe to drop? Things are going too well.. something bad is about to happen.

    • Precious

I know T~T I’m just pretending not to -Cries- =(

  • Eland

Okay, I’m heading out too because my physics homework no longer makes sense. Hahah. Nice to actually meet you all. Have a wonderful weekend/next week. 🙂

    • Have a good weekend too.

    • D. Garrett

      nice to meet u 2. 🙂 / u2.

    • You too, Eland! And good night.

  • Richard Grant Muir

This totally makes me think the next page will be of PP seriously injuring Fluke

    • D. Garrett

hmmm. a bad turn of luck. possible. hope not. would flukes death mean ultimate victory because of his powers? *rubs chin.

    • Klaus

Fluke must be very sure that his powers will not make his wish come true.

  • hmm -one of the rare occasions where burning a book actually seems ok to me….

  • joshsusser

I’m starting to dread that the items our team keeps destroying are the tools PP must use to *control* the demonic energies that will be raised in the ritual, not to get the portal to open. By this point, it seems all that remains to open the portal is the energies from the sacrifice. Supposition: PP can no longer complete the ritual to bind the demons to their agreement, so they may well ignore their agreement to leave the Americas to Team Silverhair. I believe in the trade this is known as “making things worse”.

    • Tyler Griffin

      “Stop Helping!!!!!!”

  • bronakopdin

it’s really running smoothly their… so my anxiety is building up smoothly, too x’D

  • AseretZone

Nice work! How long will this good luck hold out, though? D: Hopefully they don’t get interrupted by Big Daddy showing up anyway!

    • Klaus

We will have luck at our side at first, but we will be burning it fast, Amanda said a hew minutes ago.

      • AseretZone

Hopefully it doesn’t run out before they get the people out!

  • Klaus

There were 17 minions in the panel giving the best overview. The Amander estimated their number as 20. How many have we seen knocked out so far?

    • Klaus

Answering my own question: 13. 8 on this page alone.

      • Cydney Sabin

        So that just leaves…. 30?

    • Tyler Griffin

But combat moves VERY quickly, actually. Most actual fights last only seconds, even though this is more like a “Prolonged battle” it still doesn’t take all that long to throw a punch

  • Klaus

“$2408/month with 235 Patrons”, Alex wrote three hours ago. Now it is $2446.50 with 239 patrons. We may yet get to $3000, but it is no sure thing.

    • Saxon_Brenton

I would quibble. I think it’s not a matter of if but of when. I submit that reaching $3,000 is probably inevitable – but it’s a question of whether we do so before we run out of banked bonus pages from the donation bar regime and Chris Dangerfield goes into withdrawal.

Now, the long-term project of letting Alex give up his day job… That I have no way of guestimating.

    • We’re now just $5.50 away from the second milestone goal.

  • bergulme .

I must say that I have a hard time to follow the movements in the panels (“camera” angles, blocking of the scene, line of motion etc.). But maybe that is because I can’t read straight through the action scene.
This page feels alot better to me than the last few. Scripting a scene with so many partys is very difficult of cause.
Also: Oh, Fluke, no! Never say something like that. That’s like saying “It could be worse.” in a movie.

    • Tyler Griffin

      “Nothing can stop me now!”

  • SofiaT

I don’t like seeing books burn, even if they’re grimoires used to summon the forces of Hell.

    • Michael

Considering it’s a book about summoning Hellions, I would imagine a few fireproofing spells would have been cast on it.

Fluke has the same smug grin that I get when I think of a particularly terrible pun. (example: yesterday my brother was talking about birds getting into his water tank. I commented, “I guess it would make the water taste rather foul”).

      So, so smug.

      • Phyre Storm

…Tell your brother to let me know if he needs help smacking you.

        • Michael

Oh, he doesn’t smack me, because I know kung fu.

  • John

    Very Yoda there, Tsunami.

    • Samurai Jack

What are people but ugly bags of mostly water? Of course he knew where they were…

      • EyeDontNo

A Star Trek: Next Generation quote in a Young Protectors thread? Its more likely than you think!

        • John

          I got HK-47, but yeah.

      • John

I was actually referring to the slightly off-hand wave of hand and felling minions. A la Return of the Sith.

        • Samurai Jack

I was too, in a joking way. I figure Tsunami has good control over all water, and so he doesn’t need to look around to know where there are sources of water available. And since people are (as immortalized in ST:TNG ) “ugly bags of mostly water” Tsunami knew the minions were approaching him from behind. Making them easy to swat.

  • Ant-Man

came across a new web comic 2day….thought i’d share it with you- it’s from 2 italian artists/writers_ but they have it posted in english too.

it’s all in color- 3 chaps so far- about 40 pgs/chap___it’s got sexy guys & sex_ some pages not work safe.

    ——-

Set in a secret world of darkness inhabited by vampires, werewolves and other creatures of the supernatural universe, this story focuses on two cities – Lucca and Pisa (located in Tuscany, Italy) – who are old enemies over past disagreements and frequently face-off in a series of predominantly bloody clashes.
Lucca, obedient to the rules imposed by Florence (a governing city where a wealthy society of vampires lives), drove out all the vampires who did not conform to the rules for their insubordination. This group of banished vampires, who now live in Pisa, have begun reorganizing their ranks as they plan to seek revenge for wrongs suffered. Meanwhile in Lucca, they have their own troubles as a recent series of strange events and suspicious deaths worries the entire Grand Lodge.
As this situation develops, other figures begin to populate the zone between the two cities. This small gang of independent vampires, however, has no allegiance to either city and daringly creates problems for them both with their unscrupulous behavior.

War is more alive than ever in these nights of darkness, and no one is safe.

    Purpurea Noxa: the meaning

Purpurea Noxa is the fusion of two latin words. Purpurea refers to the color “dark red” or “crimson” and is obviously related to the color of blood. Noxa have a multiple meanings, it means damage, harm but was also used to indicate, guilt, crime, sin, punishment and in some documents is also linked to the diseases. With these two words we tried to summarize what for us is means being a vampire. Besides the advantages due to the power that a vampire gain, there are a bunch of handicaps that cannot be avoided. The sun, the fire and the true faith, are only some of them; your true enemy is yourself. The hunger and the inner beast are always on alert and ready to take over on you. It’s a sin, it’s a fault, it’s a disease. It’s a curse tied to the blood, their source of life and, at same time, of damnation. If you want you could read “Purpurea Noxa” like “Crimson Disease”

    • D. Garrett

      im reading that 1 2. 🙂

    • Niggle

lol I’ve been reading that a while. Good art, but I’m so damn confused about the plot and characters sometimes.

  • nice job “fixing” it, hero: you probably just activated some Nuke of Destruction by scorching that tome!

  • So next up we have page 100 of the chapter. I wonder if Alex has anything… special… planned to celebrate?

  • Pikinanou

Watching Tsu bending water so peacefully makes me want to watch Avatar, the last Airbender series all over again 🙂

    • rgleon9986

It’s ALWAYS time to watch Avatar: the Last Airbender again.

  • TheManBehindTheCurtain

Interesting action. But shouldn’t Tsunami’s tattoos be glowing when he uses his power? I seem to recall see this way back when they did that apartment fire rescue.

  • WarGoddess

Better luck next time…these young whippersnappers got me laughing so hard. 😀

  • MichB

Ahahaha, he has a catchphrase 😀

    • OnyxLight

LOL indeed he does and I love it!

  • RustyBurrell

I just wanted to smack Fluke in that last panel! I was waiting for it to be a gif with sunglasses falling down to say “Deal with it” or a “Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah!” from CSI Miami. Someone throw a house slipper and hit him in the back of the head please!

I say all this in jest. I love his corny ass XD.

In other news, I am loving this Tsunami/Red Hot action.

  • fujoshifanatic

Hee! Fluke, you so corny! I love it! And the action that Red and Tsu are working is just stunning! Did Red actually incinerate that grimoire? I figured that since it is a “hell-tome” it would be more fire-proof than that? Either way, the action is awesome; keep it coming!

  • @alexwoolfson:disqus thank you so much for providing the Rosetta Stone to hell-speak. It’s so hard to get a reliable translation these days. LOL.

Congrats on how well the Patreon is going. Fellow rabid fans, we are so close to the ultra-key milestone (I mean really close) that will guarantee two-pages a week. Please please please check under all the cushions on your chairs and couch (or unused car ashtray) for spare change. Even 1,2 or 3 dollars A MONTH! can help make the difference if enough folk can scrape it together. Alex is much too classy to beg, but I’m a shameless TYP junkie and I’m totally addicted to the TWO-PAGES that come like clockwork each week.

Trust me you DO NOT want to see me undergo the delirium tremens (DT’s) when I hit withdrawals. It’s so NOT pretty. So onto this page!!!

First, sorry I haven’t been posting my page love. Yep, like everyone, I’ve been under the weather and that makes reading, writing, typing just plain rough. I LOVED the last page and Spooky’s STFU to Duncan (and a whole lotta other stuff)… but for the moment… this page.

This page is a wonderful “part two” to the last page… a wrap up of where everyone is and what people are feeling and doing (don’t worry Doki… Mitch is coming… I mean… ummm… never mind). Alex, Adam and Vero you guys have outdone yourselves on these last few pages. They are complex and very active and could easily be too busy, but you manage to contain it and present everything so cleanly that it’s a pleasure to be wrapped up in the action and be ‘dead center’ IN the heart of the page, instead of observing from a distance. This is my favorite kind of comic storytelling.

Panel #1: I love the composition of these long lateral panels. They are perfectly framed to show off the beauty of Kyle and Tsu’s magic. The crackling thrust of hell-fire and the stunningly powerful cool flow of water. I love that EVERYONE is straining, working and seen in effort as they battle. Even Sircea is working. That energy shines off the page. No one is taking it easy and it shows. I remember the very early pages when we saw them rescue people from the burning building. The YP’s powers were beautifully presented back then…

    http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-ch1-page-6/

… but they weren’t under fire back then and so they didn’t have the sense of pure strength we feel here. Sure, like everyone, I’m waiting for the “other shoe” to drop, but still it’s great to see this moment of them really doing their best as they hope for the military to arrive.

I also don’t know if it was intentional, but I love that Kyle and Tsunami are working so seamlessly together. Fire and Water. After the hard words in the jet they both put on their big boy pants and are working together. Oh yeah, I get that it takes both these formidable powers to keep Sircea occupied. That REALLY speaks to how powerful she is. IF Spooky is their most powerful operative and he is keeping Duncan occupied, then it’s really frightening that both Tsu and Kyle are needed to keep Sircea focused. Yikes.

Compliments to Adam and Veronica on giving the fire and water such beauty and also their own unique look, each so different than the other.

P#2: Okay I know that @admiraljane:disqus , @DanishWolf:disqus and others said this below, but I have to repeat it. Love this panel and Tsu’s little casual backhand with his water. It’s brilliant. All the attitude comes through. He’s focused on Sircea, but NO these little minions will NOT be sneaking up on US. Maybe I’m reading too much in, but I also thought it really showed that he has a few more years of experience using his power than Kyle… just being able to split focus for a moment to casually brush off some flies. Great fun to see. The attitude shows. I also loved the way the water flowed and followed Tsu’s hands. Great composition and energy flow. Congrats you guys for this great satisfying panel.

P#3: I loved this panel for the same reasons. Kyle and Tsu back to back (should we be shipping that one?), just as warriors are taught to protect your brother’s back. Power flowing in all directions. We see where that hell-book got to. Honestly, it reminded me off the Necronomicon Book that attacks Ash at the end of EVIL DEAD 2. Like it’s an evil book that is flapping it’s way toward them. LOL. (okay I’m dreaming of things there, but still…) Wonderful panel. Congrats to Vero for the amazing layering of the colors of fire and water. Beautiful.

P#4: I disagree with everyone. I think the minion is saying “GOTCHA!” — it is the classic minion mistake… to speak BEFORE you strike… thus alerting your victim and getting stomped. Love the classic little motion marks showing Paul’s head shooting around. I do appreciate this comics subtle and judicious use of the classic comic visual cues. Never so much that it feels silly. Never even ‘necessary’ to tell you what is happening, but so fun. Just enough. Well done guys.

P#5: Love the motion again. “PUNY LITTLE MINIONS, FLUKE SMASH!!” All while subtly and smoothly in the background our delicate but deadly Commander is going all Bruce Lee on minion ass. So great.

P#6: I dig Paul taking a breath while staring at his “pile ‘o minions.” Even more I love the little rays coming from Amanda’s head that let us know she’s dishing out the minion migraines at the same time she kicks their asses. Poor poor minions… both ends of them will be hurting when the Commander finishes.

P#7: Okay I love Paul’s evil smile. So satisfied. Yes he can say the cliché lines and get away with it on sheer moxy. It is just so Paul. Now, I totally agree with many below who say that this kind of line is like inviting Murphy and his Law into your living room for tea. Just asking for IT. Still, it’s Paul! It is. I don’t know, but somehow it seems that his personality and power are linked in some fashion. The power of self-confidence and pure pugnacious confidence. The ability to make something happen because you BELIEVE in yourself. I love that about him. I don’t know if he’s gay or if he’s the right guy for Kyle, however as a man who is happily partnered for many years with a guy who couldn’t be more different than I am. I could easily ship Kyle and Paul. I just bet they’d have fun together and Paul’s good-hearted bluster would be the perfect counterpoint to Kyle’s somewhat shy and serious nature. Based on personal experience, I could totally imagine them as a very happy couple. Just fun to think about.

Thank you so much Alex, Adam and Veronica. This page and the last page together make this entire battle scene so much more energized and fun. I know things are going to go horribly wrong, but you make it so much fun… thank you all for that!

*** So close to two pages a week on Patreon… sooooooo close. Please have mercy on your fellow addicts and give up one mocha-frappachino a month and push us over the top! THANKS!

    • Nicely put, Mr. Dangerfield. *pets fuzzy white kitty*

      • Sapfo

        Here here! 🙂

        • *whispers there, there!* 😀

            (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

    • fujoshifanatic

Excellently shameless beggary! If my broke behind hadn’t already signed up, this post would have surely convinced me. Hopefully it will convince others to make the leap.

    • D. Garrett

excellent and funny analysis Chris D. just wanted to point out that sircea isnt just being handled by kyle and tsu. commander is also f’n with her head. i could totally go for a ship between kyle and tsu. but i hadnt given much thought to kyle and paul. i think it could work. when fluke is charged up on good luck, they could have sex and he would be lucky not to get incinerated. heh. ahem. but i imagine it could result in major periods of ust. an thats a b*tch.

      • D. Garrett

four days have passed and fluke wants some…action. lol.

        txt msgs:

fluke: man this mornin i work up and my face broke out!
kyle: dont think thats unlucky enough.

fluke: not even 4 a hj?
        kyle nope.
        4 hours pass…
fluke: yanno. i got home to find all my shoes have been destroyed by fire. i really liked some of those.
kyle: man. thats major bad luck, isnt it? wink wink.
fluke: yeah man. i would come over, but i have no shoes!!!

kyle. np. ill lend u a pair of mine…im on my way.
        fluke:ill be waiting sweetheart.

    • I love reading your play-by-plays, Chris. So much fun for me. 🙂

  • Okay, seeing as to where the minion is staring in panel three I have to agree with Alex, the minion is saying Rawr! I mean he’s staring at Fluke’s fine tush, how could he not say Rawr!

edit: yes I am ashamed to be noting 17 yr old Fluke’s fine tush.

    • Phyre Storm

      Pffft. You’re allowed to look.

And I’ve totally not been perving on Mitch this entire time…

      • Soirbleu

Me either. I would definitely not be doing that, because I am far too old for that.

        • Phyre Storm

Of course not. We haven’t been ogling Spooky either (because we’re totally not into Asian guys) or looking at Commander’s ti–um, hair.

  • Dennis Grace

This fight seems to be going to well. Duncan and Sircea should have been harder to overcome.

    • Tahir Raines

Tbf, Anni and Sircea were jumped. If Spooky hadn’t surprised Anni with his tentacles, Anni would most likely still be in play. And Sircea is only out of play b/c she’s fending off/attacking 2 opponents at once who use elemental powers that can’t be simply dodged (with her speed stat anyway). If the minions were more competent and could free up their masters, the fight would most likely not be going so well.

      • Dennis Grace

I can see why and how they got into their current situation, but I would a pair of first tier super villains to be a but better prepared–especially hot Kyle and company. If I were Amanda, right about now I’d be wondering why this was going so well–too well. I’d be especially concerned that I had so little in reserve (Flyboy) and would be trying to pull at least one team member back to watch for anything that might yet blind-side them.

  • john Johnson

Given Laampros’ nature it would be interesting if setting the book on fire was a necessary part of the ritual.

  • Seventh Circle of Hell, eh? So that’s the part of hell Laampros rules?

How ironic. A lot of people hope to experience that figurative feeling of ‘7th heaven’… Duncan took Kyle to the 7th dimension of hell instead xD

    • Amaryllis Heloise Gregory

That would be with the usurers, sodomites and blasphemers, according to Dante.

  • Lillihandra

GUYS! GUYS!!!!! WE’VE CLEARED THE $2,500 MARK!

    • Saxon_Brenton

      Yay! Virtual cake for everybody.

  • Klaus

I am considering getting an avatar with a YP icon. I will not use my current avatar for this. It was made for the forum of another webcomic, and shows a character from that comic. A very obscure character. I would be much impressed if any of you recognized him.

Do any of you have any recommandations on how to make that perfectly square image that Alex requires? My current avatar is made with Irfanview. If that has a tool to make an image square, I am unable to find it.

    • Lillihandra

I don’t remember the guy’s name, but that looks an awful lot like the bar from QC.

      • Klaus

It is. It is the bartender of the Horrible Revelation. I think we have seen him twice. Last time was when he hired Will. He was never named.

      • I was about to say it looked like a character from QC. 🙂

    • Disqus does that by itself. When you upload an image for your profile pic (under Settings – Avatar), you say Save Changes. Then a square shows up on the image that you can make bigger and move around to fit the part of the image you want to make your icon.

      • Klaus

So I should upload the picture without YP icon to Discuss, save the picture from the page, and send that to Alex?

        • davefragments

          That won’t work.
You have to send your picture to Alex Wolfs and he has the YP Icons to put on. Then he will send a 128 by 128 pixel image back to you that you can put into Disqus. Before I uploaded my avatar you could see my hair and Disqus cropped it out. I used the bigger image from Alex on my Facebook page.

added – ALEX has instructions somewhere here. I’ll go look. However, any size seems to be OK to send to Alex and keep the resolution as high as you can. I took a selfie with my cellphone and squared it by cropping it.

          • Klaus

Then I don’t see how Discuss making the image square could help me. I also don’t see why it would not work. After I get the image back from Alex with the icon, I will need to upload it to Discuss again, of course.

          • davefragments

Plan that the image will be square. That’s what I did when I sent it to Alex.

          • Klaus

I have read Alex’ instructions. They say that the picture must be absolutely square. So I ask: how do I make it so? I have tried and failed to do it with Irfanview. Rather than installing something else that may or may not work,. I ask in this forum where many people have already made such an avatar: how do you make one?

          • davefragments

I have a MacBook Pro. I don’t think that I’ve ever used Irfanview.
However, in “preview” I can select a square and crop the picture. I don’t know how to do that in Irfanview.

          • davefragments

I just realized why you use Irfanview. If tomorrow you can’t make an image square, I’ll do it quickly and email it back for you. Let me know tomorrow. A reply to this will be enough to get me online.

          • Klaus

Thanks for your offer, but I managed to do it myself. I don’t know why my friends recommended IrfanView. Paint is so much easier to use.

          • davefragments

I see your avatar. Nice, nice.

          • Looking good, Klaus! 🙂

  • Marie

Oh, they got smug. Something bad’s about to happen.

  • Ooh. got back from dinner to find the Patreon had tipped over $2500 and the next milestone. 🙂

    • It’s so awesome. Y’all are so great. 😀

      • Samurai Jack

Hey Alex! Is there a way to give a gift Patreon subscription? Say I wanted to sign up, but have someone else receive the benefits you’re giving out for doing so? Can we work out a way to make that happen?

        • That’s sweet of you to want to do that. 🙂 And I don’t know if there is an official way to make that happen. You might want to reach out to the Patreon folks about that.

But one way you could do it is to simply create an account for them with their email address using your credit card or PayPal account. You’ll want to make sure that this is something they’d really want—we absolutely don’t want to be spamming folks and, obviously, it’d need to be someone you really trusted—but I think that’s one possible way to make that happen.

But definitely reach out to the Patreon folks (hello@patreon.com). They respond very quickly to questions in my experience. And you get a cute image of them running to your aid in their support confirmation email. 😉

          • Samurai Jack

Sadly, the Patreon folks tell me it can’t be done. Their best suggestion is the same as yours; create an account for the other person, but would allow them to initiate new charges. Which is too bad. 🙁

          • Bummer. Well, maybe they’ll offer that in the future.

One other thought is to use a pre-paid credit card. That way you could “gift” a year or whatever and you wouldn’t have to worry about unexpected charges. You might even be able to keep track of that account and add more money as needed.

          • D. Garrett

or maybe use the prepaid card and have ur bank transfer intended donation amount every month at the corresponding time. if it cant be done by bank it can be done via paypal acct. therefore it would be impossible for giftee to increase donation amount. but u would be trusting that person to use it for patreon and not something else. but i guess if the person stopped donating they would lose yp logo?

  • John Patterson

Again, give henchmen guns. I mean it would make them so much more useful. Well I guess Fluke could interfere with them but seriously guns!

    • Terri Sutton

We do not give the minions and/or lackeys guns; they are more likely to accidently shoot themselves than other people.

We learnt that the hard way, apparently English to Minion Speak translation is “I am skilled in a variety of weapons” really means “I play CoD 20 hours a week”.

    • Tyler Griffin

Errrr… No. See Star Wars for further reference

  • I just wanna take a moment to complement our artists here.

That water and fire is just beautiful in shape and color.

  • S+

Magnificent water and glorious fire. Wow!

  • Alt+F7

Fluke you magnificent dork! Of course there’s time for a cheesy one liner and stunning grin in the middle of the big battle. <3

  • D. Garrett

i luv this webcomic. it makes me wish i could be a superhero.

  • Sterling Ericsson

Geez, that book is hard to destroy. Since it’s a magic book, does it have a moderate amount of magical protection?

  • Tyler Griffin

I just still can’t get the image of that being the same book as the Book the Sanderson Sisters had in Hocus Pocus

    • Kate G

HA HA HA!!! That’s exactly what I’m commenting about! “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!”

  • Abbi Orenstein

    squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! that smile!!!!!

  • Phyre Storm

Panel 2: TALK TO THE HAND! *splosh*

  • Kate G

I believe Winifred Sanderson is in Hell screaming, “MY BOOK!!!” Poor Book; it’s being used and abused again. We’ll have to hope it’s like the Sanderson book and fireproof….or should we?

Is Book immune to superpower fire?

    • Eland

You win my complete respect for that reference!

      • Kate G

I think there are a few others who have commented about the book being Winifred Sanderson’s precious book. We’re all riding the same wave. It’s immediately what popped in my head. But the pages are singeing, so I guess Book lost some of its powers over time; its not completely fireproof over time (or it’s just not immune to super fire.)

Oh my gosh, I just love that movie. HA HA HA!.

        • Eland

I say they simply got one of those cheap knock-offs whereas they were TOLD it was the real deal. PP must have left Anni in charge of getting it, unfortunately for her. ;P

          • Kate G

Men can’t ever be trusted to get the important things. They’ll always go as fast as they can to get in, out and be back home. No, no, PP should have done that one. HA HA HA.

  • davefragments

On some days, I thought of the Platinum priestess as LUST from Full Metal Alchemist.
On other days “Die Koenige Der Nachte” from Mozart’s Magic Flute comes to mind. It’s the knives and the fact that I “hear” her voice as shrieky and screechy by truly singing that dread aria “Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen!” now that’s got the high notes and coloratura I associate with the PP. The Koenige is one bloodthirsty (censored).
You want to hear it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzFi-7H9TKs

The aria starts about 2:10 into the video and it has no translation but you can find that online.

    • Klaus

      Revenge, not fire, actually.

      • davefragments

I thought so. I’ll fix it.
My dictionary defines that as revenge. However, GOOGLE sent me to a website with the wrong translation. In the context of the aria both work. I think that the English versions try to make the aria singable and then change the words to match what they believe is the phrasing.
        Thanks for pointing that out.

  • purplefoxglove

I bet a lot of the minions were linguists in their former lives. I know *I* would be totally tempted to join their ranks if I was offered the chance to learn a language as rare as Seventh Circle of Hell.

    • Tyler Griffin

I dunno. 7th Circle seems kind of animalistic and bestial, to me. I mean the minion could have screamed “Die!”, “Begone!”, “For the Horde!”, any number of curses or explicitive, yet instead it GROWLED at him in a foreign language? Then again, I suppose that in any other situation, growling in demonic (regardless of dialect) would be pretty darn intimidating.

  • charlieeton

I seriously think they are dancing and not fighting.
Look at all those moves from Tsunami

    • davefragments

That’s almost the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy with Peter Quill dancing his way to get his hands on The Orb first.

      • D. Garrett

        i really liked that movie.

        • davefragments

I rented it on cable. The rental period was three days and I watched it 4 times. It’s an entertaining movie.

          • D. Garrett

my sis sent it to me via dropbox. i would try to watch it, get oi a certain point, and something would always happen to prevent me from finishing it. it was crazy! but when i finally saw it all i really liked it. i could def watch it again.

          • davefragments

I had the same reaction the first time I watched. None of these “guardians” seem to fit together or have any redeeming qualities. Not even the supposed good guys running the government. Then somewhere in the middle all the plot threads fall together and it turns into a good movie.

I’ll give you a hint the first time I saw humanity in Peter Quill’s eyes was in that shower room at the prison. Everyone is watching Chris Pratt to see just how naked and just how bulked up he is (think lots of muscle) and as they are getting dressed, he looks at the back of the raccoon and see some rather horrific scars and implants that gives the vermin intelligence. And he feels sorry for the creature. The words of Rocket Raccoon right after that scene are telling “Ain’t nothing like me, but me” and he says it not in pride but in sorrow and hate. Quill sees and understands and begins to act different. There are details like that all through the film.

          • D. Garrett

very true. for me the best was the ending. in a word. groot.

          • davefragments

            I like Groot!

  • Frater Gymnos

is there going to be a long group shower after all of this? i think i’m going to need one!

  • justkeepondriving

    Hahaha “rawr!”
Also, this battle is going very much to plan *knocks ferociously on wood*

  • Klaus

The Patreon counter has increased $200 in just 2½ days. It is getting hard to maintain pessimism.

  • Alan Michael Williams

It was nice to read all these action pages in one sitting. I’ll be back in a couple months, lol.

    • Tyler Griffin

It DOES make for such a more cohesive flow.

    • Eris, elder daughter of Nyx

Poor Flyboy, with Tsunami calling the gay stuff so twisted that he couldn’t be allowed to see it! The things you don’t think of at the time. I was thinking of how it must be making poor Kyle feel, not Flyboy.

      • over two years in the making, this was. . . . .

speaking of “two years,” i wonder how much time had passed in that universe, since then?

maybe, but a few mere weeks?

        some Months?

  • Kitkat822

I just got really disappointed because I thought it was Wednesday and there was no bonus page, then I realised we’re only on Tuesday, Nights are taking their toll on me!!

    • Well, depending where you are, we meet here on Tuesday nights for camping while we wait for the page. Which often is uploaded before 10pm pacific time. 🙂

    • davefragments

I feel your pain. We only get two nights a week that TYP updates.
      I rank my evenings as
      1) (personal and private duties)
      2) TV mysteries
      3) TV police procedurals
      4) Worst Cooks in America
      5) some but not all movies
and I consider the drecks as being
      6) drunken tattoo erasing shows
      7) Storage locker selling shows
And last night there was nothing on but SNOW news, endless and repetitive snow news.

  • Hi Everybody!!

    • Camp time! Hello 🙂

      • 😀 How’s it going?

        • Not too bad, just up from a nap and trying to wake back up again -___-

          • Hope the weather’s not to bad.

          • Beautiful here & all our snow is gone for now! No complaints!

          • Yay! Snow is nice for a brief visit, but just that a brief visit.

          • It’s still beautiful here too. Was supposed to rain but everything is dry.

          • We got some rain. Living in the desert, it’s appreciated. Of course, I’m not looking forward to clearing out the weeds when spring comes.

          • We need the rain. It’s nice now but our drought situation isn’t good.

          • No, it’s not, but I don’t think it’s the worst drought CA has faced.

          • davefragments

I hate snow. I am promising myself that next year I will be in a warm climate without snow.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Nice! We’ve got some snow here, but not nearly as bad as some places.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hi AJ! How’s it going?

      • Hi AJ and Stick!

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Hi Gryphon! How are you?

          • Doing well. My Disqus is slow…I’m updating my OS so if I suddenly go away, it’s because my computer has restarted.

            How are you?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Duly noted.

        • Hi Gryphon!!

      • Hi Stick. I’m over my cold, so that’s nice. So basically everythings good! 😀

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Yay! Great to hear!

    • Hi Admiral! :3 The camp is on!

      • Yes it is! Quick claim a spot before Chris shows up and tries to hog all the muffins!

        • stickfigurefairytales

I’ve got some banana bread as emergency backup supplies.

          • I had cookie dough but um…*wipes away crumbs* There was a terrible accident.

          • I love banana bread. Which is funny because I’m not a fan of bananas otherwise. Unless they’re chocolate covered and frozen (with nuts is best)

          • stickfigurefairytales

I prefer no nuts myself, but I like bananas on their own too.

          • Good source of potassium!

          • It’s same the conundrum I go through with tomatoes. Things made with, are fine, but the thing itself, I will not suffer it on my food!

          • stickfigurefairytales

My mother hates raw tomatoes, but like you she’ll eat stuff with cooked ones in it.

          • How can I say no to salsa and ketchup and spaghetti sauce and and and… But that thing is just so wrong by itself and raw.

        • *pitches lavish tent*

        • Question about baking muffins. How do you keep them from getting tough? I’ve been making muffins from scratch and they turn out a little tough on the outside.

          They taste really good, though.

          • That’s a good question. If you figure that one out, I’m all ears.

Three things that I’ve heard regarding baking. There is the matter of butter vs oil, the matter of ingredient temps, and the matter of over-mixing the batter.

BUT I do know that coconut oil gives a different texture than olive oil. At least for microwave cakes.

          • I have heard about over mixing batter and wonder if my dough isn’t wet enough but I think I will try the next batch with an extra egg and see how it goes. I will report back on my findings, Admiral!

          • I look forward to the report! I do wish I knew how bakeries get them all moist!

          • stickfigurefairytales

I know that in my experience putting them in Tupperware tends to help them get softer, especially if you put them in before they are completely finished cooling.

          • You mean if they last that long? 😛

          • I will try that, Stick! As for the Admiral’s comment, it is true that my homemade muffins taste much better than the store bought kind even a little tough on the outside.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Good luck! 🙂

        • I had an apple fritter and got distracted. 🙂

          • The fritter is a master of distraction.

          • True. I can’t even begin to tell you how much time I’ve frittered away…

(Yep, it’s not just Fluke with the Dad jokes. In fact, my Dad’s jokes were nothing but bad puns. Drove me bananas. 😀 )

          • Ha!! (Groan)

    • davefragments

I like that Avatar. It’s a lot of fun.

  • davefragments

hey there (you with the stars in your eyes)
    wink, wink

  • I’m here, everyone can calm down now. No need to cry, I’m here for you all. 😉

  • stickfigurefairytales

So I’m back now from housesitting/catsitting for my friend. I made such good progress with the new kitten! His paws seem to be healing up nicely and I was able to get him to purr very happily while petting him on Sunday and Monday. 😀 Also, my friend said I could be the one to name him, and I decided on Copernicus. (Since her other foster cats have names that starts with an A, a B, and a D, I wanted to pick a C name.)

    • Aww! I love kittens so much, I wish I could rescue one! Pretty sure my dog would eat it though. >_> Copernicus is a wonderful name!

      • stickfigurefairytales

Yeah, it’s tough to already have pets that wouldn’t get along with them.

    • That’s wonderful, Stick! I was a bit worried about the poor thing. So glad he was able to warm up to you. Copernicus is a great name!

      • stickfigurefairytales

Yeah, I was so excited! He even started lifting up his chin so I could scratch him under it more effectively. 😀

    • davefragments

My sister-in-law and one of her daughters keep trying to convince me to get a kitty from her because they have too many and they are all just let loose to run free and/or be barn cats. I really don’t want a cat. I’m a dog person. I just don’t think I”m going to be fair to a pet with my goofy schedule.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Have they spayed/neutered all their cats? If not, they really should.

        • Definitely. That’s how you get unwanted and more importantly unfed strays. 🙁

        • davefragments

I don’t ask. I haven’t been at my brother’s house in several years. It’s up two stairs. He was just at mine, though.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Tell them I said they should spay or neuter all their cats.

  • We should all say the creepiest things possible to Alex until he checks the comments, to freak him out. >:D

    • davefragments

      How’s this:
…they cling to the dogma imposed by the long post-Enlightenment hegemony over the Western intellectual outlook, which can be summarized briefly as follows: that there exists an external world, whose properties are independent of any individual human being and indeed of humanity as a whole; that these properties are encoded in “eternal” physical laws; and that human beings can obtain reliable, albeit imperfect and tentative, knowledge of these laws by hewing to the “objective” procedures and epistemological strictures prescribed by the (so-called) scientific method.

      • syllibub

        Well, I’ve got chills, anyway.

      • Lol well I was thinking of something along the lines of “We see you Alex” and goofy shit like that, but that was certainly creative. O_o

        • davefragments

It’s a borrowed quote. I don’t think in means anything, just sounds creepy.

          • syllibub

The seeming contempt toward the idea of an “external” world that can objectively analyzed is a little unsettling — what’s this from?

          • davefragments

            You ready for this:
Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity

          • syllibub

Sounds like some nice beach reading.

          • davefragments

Nah, it’s all a fake, made up silliness that is supposed to be “real.”

          • syllibub

I guess if there is no consistent, external world, there can be no beach. See, that’s spooky as hell!

          • This is a great comment!

          • Adam Black

no, it means the beach is dependant on humans to get semi-nude and play volleyball

          • Adam Black

was that the trojan thrown down on the science wars?

          • davefragments

No, the author – Alan Sokol – wrote a deliberately fake article to a legit journal and it got published. It was his joke on peer-reviewed journals. He really pi$$ed off the academic world with that stunt.

      • I think Dave has been playing drinking games with Laampros again. Oh those crazy kids and the stuff they get up to!

        • davefragments

          😉

    • Could it be that I have the most awesome and the silliest readers in the world? õ_o

      • Oh hey there Alex. Didn’t see you there.
We tease because we love. 😀

      • syllibub

Alex! The call is coming from inside the house!

  • Yukiness

My god I miss this fandom. Sorry for the past few months of silence;a lot of crazy mess happened to me but everything is better now.

Loving the Sassy Tsunami and adorable Fluke. Great job guys

    • Welcome back, Yukiness!

      • Yukiness

Thanks guys. You don’t know how much medicine you are to my soul

    • stickfigurefairytales

Welcome back! I’m sorry that you had some tough times, but I’m really glad things are better now.

    • Glad to have you back, Yukiness! 🙂

  • I wonder where Danish is. Do we send out a fandom howl?
I am sorry for so many comments I have nothing else to do with my life.

    • syllibub

She’s probably sleeping, still. Her fresh-page instincts will wake her up eventually!

      • Lol oh yes, she’s on the opposite side of the world from me. >_< I forget sometimes. (I'm so American, gawd.)

        • stickfigurefairytales

Wha….what?! There is…other part of world…besides us?!?!?! (I’m American too)

          • syllibub

I know, right? I have to compare all these other inferior time zones to my FREEDOM CLOCK.

          • stickfigurefairytales

What time is it? Hold on, let me check my watch… HA! IT’S FREEDOM PAST LIBERTY, THAT’S WHAT TIME IT IS!

(Disclaimer: Freedom and justice may not be available to all. Please check your local listings.)

          • I… I refuse to believe such!

          • This is the part where we get horribly offended, do a diva hair flip and Beyonce walk away, and then not notice the armies that go marching in.

      • That is our @DanishWolf:disqus

She could be five years dead, buried on the other side of the world… and some sexy new comic page goes up… a world away… and her zombie wolf eyes will snap open and she’ll roll over, shave her legs, and fire up that laptop pronto.

        Yep… no stopping our Wolf!

    • Your howl was heard, but I found the new page just after I read your comment xD Had to type in the new address in another tab, and there was the page *lol*

      • Lol, well, glad you made it anyway! Next time I’ll do a good howl earlier and see if you hear. 😀

  • davefragments

I had a thought. I can’t share it. It was scary.

    • I dunno, Dave. That fake quote you shared was pretty scary.

      • davefragments

I should have said spooky but that means supernatural and not Spooky of the comics.

        • Ah right, hit me with the supernatural thought! I’m game.

          • davefragments

          • As in those architectural structures on gothic churches designed to drain off water or those demony-vaguely reptilian creatures?
