Don’t feel bad, Tsunami. A bunch of the readers were thinking the exact same thing…

SPECIAL HOLIDAY DEAL: With the holidays coming up, I figured you all might want some fun offline reading for when you’re traveling, so I’m offering a special deal on the Kindle version of Artifice. The Kindle version is very cool because not only will you be able to read Artifice without an Internet connection, it also uses the fancy Panel View feature that makes it easy to read the comic no matter what size your device is. Plus, it has all the special extra content that is in the trade paperback!

Ordinarily, I sell the Kindle version of Artifice for $9.99, but I’m doing an Amazon “Countdown Deal” for one week starting on Friday, 11/21/14 where it starts off super-discounted at $0.99 / £0.99 (that’s, like, 90% off! Crazy!), then the price rises each day while the promotion runs. I just wanted to let you know in advance in case you want it, so you all can get it at just 99 cents — just one way of saying thank you for being such awesome readers. Just be sure to get it on Friday before Amazon raises the price! 🙂

As you probably know, there is a free Kindle app for pretty much any device, so you’d be able to read it in full color on your mobile, tablet, notebook or whatever. You can get the deal starting 11/21/14 in the U.S. here. And in the U.K. here. (And feel free to tell your friends!)

    Banzai!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Way to go! 🙂

      • silibub

LOL, I guess Danish really is snoozing.

        • I left the chair right after I saw your reply my ‘sleep’ comment, and just fast enough to miss Alex’ reply about the page coming soon xD

  • davefragments

    Sillibub wins again

And there’s even more plans that aren’t going to work.

  • silibub

Proud of you, Mitch. You may be young but you’ve got your priorities in order. *clenches fist, gets misty eyed*

  • Saxon_Brenton

Fly Boy is dangerously genre savy 🙂

  • Interesting.

  • Tahir Raines

Glad to see he isn’t a fool.

  • My feelings about this page: *sigh*

My feelings about Mitch on this page: OMG you are the cutest and I love you forever and ever and if you ever want to lose those idiots, i have a special place on my team just for you.

  • stickfigurefairytales

I am genuinely impressed by the amount of maturity Mitch is showing. Three cheers for Mitch!

    • Terri Sutton

      Here here.

    • Toli Bera

lets see how long it lasts. note the look over his shoulder, and Mitch went online and checked out the porn/art sites after Gordon warned him against it. he’s pulled this stuff before. he might try something again.

      • The porn wasn’t a life or death situation either.

        • EyeDontNo

For the youngest in the group? Being left out is life or death socially speaking. And he didn’t know it was porn until he pulled up whatever they were hiding.
The only way to break him of that habit is to stage the same scenario but have it be a birthday surprise they are hiding. 🙂

      • stickfigurefairytales

Well, there’s a big difference between looking at fan-drawn porn on the internet and doing something that could get himself or other people on the team killed.

    • purplefoxglove

      Cheer! Cheer! Cheeeeeeeeer!

  • stickfigurefairytales

Can the boulder thing be Plan B?

    • stickfigurefairytales

Ha ha, B for boulder! Just noticed that.

  • Kuca

    Yay, a page!

I almost want to see him leave in the future at some point. Not on bad terms, necessarily, but, would make for interesting story. Though, whatever works, I suppose.

    Off to bed then, goodnight!

  • silibub

Mitch seems pretty fed up with Gordon’s “little bro” treatment. I wonder if, besides wanting to be taken more seriously, Gordon’s mistrustful attitude toward Kyle has Mitch aggravated.

    • Steven K.

I’m still hoping he has a crush on Kyle – and is being very mature about things because he doesn’t want to screw up in front of him – though I’m sure he’d like to impress him as well, and help defend his honor and give it to the people that hurt him.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        That would be awfully cute.

  • Ah! What do I need to know! Tell me, Amanda! I mean, tell us! Tell them…whatever…

  • stickfigurefairytales

“You already have the most important job in the world, Mitch – being a friend.”

  • Malcolm Wright

I really like that Flyboy has this old school pilot jacket thing going on.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Me too. Plus the color goes really nicely with his hair.

  • SofiaT

I feel very proud of Mitch right now and slightly annoyed with Tsunami.
Only because I thought he sounded a tad patronizing.

    But I like Mitch’s spine.
    Flyboy has steel!

    • stickfigurefairytales

I agree that Tsunami came off that way, but I don’t think he meant to be. He just can’t stop putting his foot in his mouth today.

      • SofiaT

Which is why I’m only *slightly* annoyed. 😉

    • Terri Sutton

When is Tsunami not annoying us (the Peanut Gallery).

      • True… he’s been nothing if not consistent. Let us see what time brings us with our little (HA!) Tsunami.

    • Samurai Jack

What did Tsunami do wrong? Isn’t that his job as second? He’s backing up Amanda here, not being condescending to Mitch. I didn’t think it sounded patronizing at all. I’m glad to see that Mitch is a total team player here, though.

  • Sapfo

    *raise hand*
I dont know what I should be doing. (Kick schoolbooks behind the soffa)

    • I’m so proud of your understanding of priorities! Good Sapfo!

      • Sapfo

I will forget all about school, IF I get to join in the saving the world 😀

  • Sorry I missed camping but I’m glad the prayer circle worked from last week. More Mitch! He is very mature about it all though disappointed.

I have a feeling PP and Duncan have something up their sleeves that no one has thought of. And I think Mitch might see it before everyone else does.

Oh, and I highly recommend Artifice if you haven’t read it yet. Great story, beautiful art, just perfect.

  • Disqus is acting weird. It keeps saying there are comments but I can’t see them :/

    • davefragments

Disqus has been weird for months for me. Most of the time it doesn’t know if the new post is up or down. I just scroll to find it.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Yeah, it does that for me a lot too.

  • The only thing I can think that she could say, make certain to use the bathroom before heading into battle?

    • davefragments

      real superheroes hold it forever.

      • Bladders of steel?

        • davefragments

No way superman has a weak bladder!
          Wonder Woman or Xena either.

          but Aquaman, he’s a real pischer . . .

  • Abbi Orenstein

    I love Mitch. smart kid.

  • Okay seriously. Everyone already said what I was thinking, but better, so nicely done. But I may say it anyway.

Mitch is taking this very well, better than I probably would have. Makes him very mature. Other than with Tsu once more trying to be the big brother. There is only so much big brother a kid can take, especially when the guy trying to be the big brother is constantly stopping him and maybe with a bit of condescension. I’m happy to see Mitch stand up for himself.

I’m not that guy. No, no he’s not.

Oh, running can definitely kill you. 😛

    • Steven K.

      Especially running with scissors.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Hi everyone. Just got home, and have a few more observations that I thought of while on the train.

So, to reiterate, it was very nice to see Fly Boy acting with maturity, genre savy-ness, and just a bit of resentment over the prospect of being seen as the stupid kid who messes up while trying to prove himself.

Now, let’s unpack that statement. Why was it so nice? Answer: because Alex had already primed us to expect Fly Boy to actually be the stupid kid who messes up by trying to prove himself. No, really, think back: Interlude 1, when Mitch walks in on the others reading porn on the internet and Gordon blocks him from seeing it, he goes “C’mon guys! This totally isn’t fair!” Which depending on your take on how long-suffering he is could be read with a number of tones of voice, but I’ll admit I tend to read it in a whiny tone. Then at the start of chapter 3 he keeps pestering Fluke and Spooky about wanting to go into the warehouse and help Red Hot, to the point where Fluke snaps at him.

And yet that scene in chapter 3 also holds the seeds of the characterisation we see here. When Fly Boy finally takes the hint that Annihilator might come back, he accepts the task of guard duty. Again, depending on how you read Fly Boy’s motivations that might be because he’s feeling vengeful and the idea of getting a few kicks in would be appealing, but it might also be because he’s internalised some of Commander’s lessons about responsibility (I mean, come on, you know that Commander has given them the “with great power comes great responsibility” talk; if nothing else Red Hot’s comments about how he wanted to be a superhero for the wrong reasons before she helped him are an indicator of this).

But Fly Boy is still a 15 year old teenager. He’s easily distracted and impulsive. The two incidents where he looses focus and drops Spooky’s car and then the team plane show this. What it means is that at this point he’s not planning on going against orders to take on the bad guys directly. However when push comes to shove and Team Silver (I expect almost inevitably) pull a nasty surprise out of their metaphorical hat against the heroes, then we’ll see how he reacts. If that reaction is with calm and deliberate weighing of the options, I’ll be even more pleased with Fly Boy’s maturity than I am now.

    • Nate

      Consider this:

In both of the situations you mentioned Mitch had a chance to see Kyle naked…

      😉

      • Ha! I hadn’t realized that. That’s awesome. 🙂

    • A very nice analysis, Saxon. 🙂

  • Ahh, I really like both Mitch and Amanda on this page. She shows why she’s a commander and he shows he can be smart and mature about something, despite it not being the scenario where he hoped to contribute more.
Tsu is learning first hand how his little buddy is growing up fast (NO double pun here xD). I guess they’re all about to do that from the coming experience.

Btw.. I need to get this one off my chest:
“Is is a bird, is it a plane.. Yes! And it is Flyboooy!
(I can’t be the only one who’s having trouble not to make Superman references around Mitch? *lol*)

Last I also need to mention how absolutely silly-cute Spooky looks in the first panel, being all attentive with a touch of ..surprise 😀

  • Saxon_Brenton

So, if Mitch isn’t going to be the team member to act his age, be irresponsible and endanger the operation by going against orders to grandsatnd, then who will be? (And by this I don’t mean to make spur-of-the-moment decision in response to unexpected battlefield conditions.) Let’s examine the candidates…

Commander? No. Quite apart from the fact that she’s the one giving the orders, from what we’ve seen she’s all business. Granted, she probably has to be to keep all those rambunctious teenage boys under control, as events of Interlude 1 strongly suggest. (This does raise interesting questions about whether she even let’s her hair down when she’s off-duty, but that’s another topic entirely.)

Tsunami? No. From what we’ve seen he’s an over-protective worry wart. Extremely unlikely to grandstand while on duty. He might make a wrong call due to his over-protectiveness, but again that’s another topic.

Red Hot? No. We’ve seen that a sense of guilt and responsibility has prompted Kyle to abstain from sexual release for six years. Then he took a risk with romance, it blew up in his face, and now he’s back to a laser-guided focus on superheroing duty again. A cynical interpretation of Kyle’s motives might suggest that he’s more interested in revenge against the Annihilator than in justice, with the possibility that he might take risks to get that revenge. However, I would say that what we’ve seen of Kyle is that he’s a boyscout mode superhero, so seeking revenge seems very unlikely to me.

Fluke? No. There was a time when I would have said maybe, because early on I was worried about the prospect that someone with luck powers might be freewheeling in his attitude. However, I recently revised that opinion when I noticed that Fluke was the one consistently analysing the situation, then playing Devil’s Advocate to suggest possible weak points in a plan. From that I would speculate that he’s all business when on duty.

Fly Boy? No. From this page it’s pretty clear that Mitch is aware of the risks of being the irresponsible kid who messes things up by trying to prove himself. He hates being treated as a kid, and can think long term to recognise that messing up will only cement that reputation among his teammates.

Spooky? No. I can see a situation where Spooky’s laid back approach to doing things might surprise his teammates – a direct analogy would be to the way his let slip the name of Annihilator while flying to the warehouse, startling Fly Boy and causing him to drop the car. But deliberately going against orders to grandstand? No, can’t see that.

Any thoughts, disagreements or points of clarification?

    • D. Garrett

      wow. really good analysis!

    • Samurai Jack

The true test is when they’re faced with adversity. If the battle goes badly will everyone stick to the plan or will they be tempted to improvise? Worse, will they just freeze if they’re not capable of improvising on the spot? Granted, I don’t see Spooky doing that. But Kyle? Maybe. Duncan is too tempting a target for him, for answers if for no other reason.

I know the Commander will be in telepathic contact with them, but she’ll have her own fight to worry about. Can she monitor everything while getting her job done? I hope Amanda’s final words are about what to do should something go wrong.

    • Larkle

I think the one to endanger the operation will be the Platinum Priestess. And/or Duncan. They’re sure to have a counterattack.

      • Derkins

Exactly. And Gordon may be to preoccupied to even attempt getting the wires disconnected inside the box. I’m also really suspicious that the plat. priestess is going to be a whole lot more to handle than Amanda is betting. Unless *she* is just *way* more powerful than I expected. She’s supposed to administer the psychic attack, while seeing through Mitch’s eyes, and communicating with everyone else, too, AND preforming had to hand combat. Just… seems like a lot. Her and Spooky are spread real thin in this plan… that’s all.
I will say that Kyle might be the trump card. If he gets emotional again, like he did in Hell, then he could potentially put some real hurt on the baddies if all hell breaks loose (ominous expression for this context, i know).

        • Saxon_Brenton

Agreed on all counts. It’s a nagging doubt, mainly offset by the Commander’s rep as a rock-solid tactician, but I’m worrying that some of the YP team ares spread a bit thin. Makes me wonder if Commande’s being ‘fluenced by the Priestess to make a mistake. (Also makes me want the Powers Cards from the kickstarter, but I’ve been saying that for months…)

    • Derkins

If their friends become overcome, they’ll be forced to improvise, though.

  • SofiaT

I just found out today it’s international Men’s Day.
Because apparently all other 364 days in the year… aren’t?

I read that it was established in 1999 and it was created as an anti-sexism event.
It was hailed with this unforgettable quote -among others- : “This is an excellent idea and would give some gender balance.”

Next thing you know, we will have an International Heterosexual Day, to make sure heterosexual people don’t feel marginalized and discriminated against.

  • Kiri

Actually, I think Flyboy is going to be pivotal. Being outside the fight he’s going to be the only one with (a) the chance to get away when it all turns to goo. (b) the only objective viewer to let Amanda Commander (did you make it rhyme on purpose?) know that it’s all going to goo. Without flyboy I doubt our heroes would survive it. I kind of hope he realises that.

  • TwilightDreamer

Good boy Mitch :)…still feel bad for him, but I like that he brought up the whole “not being the kid who messes up trying to prove something”….I was worried that might happen…he’s such a sweet heart.

  • D. Garrett

Amanda: “never give up, never surrender!” ha ha. galaxy quest…

    • SofiaT

By Grabthar’s hammer, we shall defeat them!

      • D. Garrett

        omg! I loved that line!

        • SofiaT

          i loved that movie 😀

          • D. Garrett

me too. one of my fav’s. so funny.

          • SofiaT

Now I have the sudden urge to watch it again…

          • I have the dvd. ^_^ Good movie. ^_^

      • Perfect quote from a great film. I also thought of you when I accidentally fell across this Eddie Izzard moment. Seems timely.

  • D. Garrett

there seem to be quite a few tsu haters, but I like tsu here. he acknowledged mitch’s feelings and supported Amanda’s plans. u go tsu! *upvotes mah self cuz I doubt anyone will. lol!

  • Mary Klemzak

    First panel:what’s Spooky lookin at?

And ugh, I wamna hug Flyboy and feed him cookies and milk. He’s so adorable.

  • Falconfly

  • Klaus

I hope Amanda has trained fighting while keeping an eye on the Flyboy’s eye view. It must be hard to do. And maybe Flyboy ought to practise boulder dropping before he tries to do it close to teammates and non-combatants.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

Let’s hope this doesn’t take much longer……I am very excited to see how this turns out!

  • Evoru

I’m suddenly very uncomfortable that our aviator will be unprotected and all alone up in the plane…don’t most portals to hell normally open mid-air?

    • I don’t know about “most” portals, but John Milton’s Paradise Lost: The Second Book, Lines 717-720, do mention an encounter in mid-air?

Hovering a space, till winds the signal blow
To join their dark encounter in mid-air.
So frowned the mighty combatants that Hell
      Grew darker at their frown; so matched they stood;

      (not exactly comforting, I guess…)

      • Derkins

I’m trying not to imagine what it might look like if that were to happen. :C

  • WarGoddess

The thing you need to understand…is that nothing can overcome the power of the SPIRAL. Believe in the me that believes in you!!!!!!! 😀

Cookies to anyone who knows where that reference is from.

    • Tim P

      ….Praise Helix?

    • Larkle

…Wizard 101? Only place I can think of that references a spiral.

    • Foelhe

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, for the delurk and the win.

  • Derkins

oh lookit everyone cringe as gordon patronizes mitch. he really needs to work on those people skills.

  • bronakopdin

no time to comment here yesterday so with a little delay my two cents ^^

in fact… I love how Mitch brings up that clichéd hero attitude 😀
at the same time his sulking is so cute!
and yet I still have a feeling he might try something >_<'

What I think about recently is actually… well I wish Mitch could act more like his age!
He's surrounded by elders, even is just a little and constantly feels like he's kind of left behind, always making an effort to be useful, trying to kind of compete with his comrades… Even if I get his point of not being seen as the "kid"… in the end he is… and I wish you could feel that way himself in a way… being spoiled a little longer, enjoy his youth and everyday life with friends, going for a flick and eat an ice cream instead of dealing with major dangers like this…

yet it's a very admirable trait of him to be that ambitious! You'll be an awesome grown-up later 🙂

  • Larkle

Flyboy is like ‘do not pet me’ to Tsunami. Well, no one likes to be patronized.

  • Happy Birthday Stick!!!

    Happy Birthday to you
    Happy Birthday to you
    Happy Birthday dear Sticky
    Happy Birthday to you

Thank you, Danish! I’ve decided to celebrate all weekend, so this totally counts! 😀

    • stickfigurefairytales

Yay!!!!!! Thank you so much, Doki! <33333333

  • Happy Birthday, Sticky!!

    • Oh yeah… Sticky you survived 2014! That is worthy of a “HUZZAH.”

      HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

      • Sapfo

That she did! And will live on to the next level.

Have a great new year Sticky!

        • stickfigurefairytales

Thank you, Sapfo! I’ve had birthday wishes from so many kind people, including you guys! 🙂

    • Happy Birthday, Stick! Thank you for being such an awesome reader and member of our community here! 🙂

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Thank you, Alex! :))))

    • stickfigurefairytales

Aw, thank you so much!! 😀 <3

      • You’re mighty welcome. I hope the day was awesome!

  • Kate G

Mitch may not like it, and he may be pouting, but he’s taking it like a grown up.

I would never be able to do that. I’d be throwing a temper tantrum. Like a five year old. Which would probably be all the more reason to keep me on look out duty.

Mitch has some of the most beautiful and loving (but very protective) expressions throughout this comic. I love that so much. Here he has that protective but seriously disappointed face and it makes me want to hug him. He’s so huggable.

    • Sarah314159

Yeah… He’s just been told that he’s still a kid, and he’s totally taking it like a man. His combination of acceptance of the reality and frustration with it really made me say Awwwwwwwwww.

      • Kate G

Well, he is–essentially–a kid. He’s 15. But, nearly all of the boys ARE KIDS. I mean, do you remember being 17 and 18? (If you’re actually passed that age a bit.) I was an insecure, emotional 18 year old who had no idea who I was. NO IDEA. I was like a cannon ready for the Civil War.

At 25, my moods are a lot better but I’m still essentially a kid. I’ll always be part kid because I’m behaviorally behind! But, I’m definitely more aware of the world now. You’re more naive at 15-18 than you are at 25.

  • bronakopdin

@alexwoolfson:disqus just a question: I’m in Germany but I still made an Account for Amazon.com since I wanted to buy sth once that wasn’t available on Amazon.de.

So I checked for the Artifice kindle Version and sadly it still tells me to go and buy Kindle products on Amazon.de since my location is Germany and sadly there it tells me the price is still 9.71$ or sth so I guess it doesn’t work if you’re living outsite of the USA or GB? Well too bad 🙁

I have the printed version anyway so it’s not so bad 😀
but I wonder if there is a possibility to include more countries the next time you do such a nice offer?

thanks anyway I bet many people who were wavering whether to buy it or not are really grateful, too 🙂

    • I’d love to have that offer worldwide. Unfortunately, Amazon only allows Countdown Deals on their U.S. and UK stores. :/ And I had another reader from Australia who told me she saw the same thing you did when she logged into the USA store. You could try to purchase the book using a VPN or anonymizer web site before going to Amazon, maybe that could “fool” Amazon into thinking you are from the U.S., but I don’t know. (Or maybe you could have a U.S. friend purchase it for you as a “gift”? Can you do that with Kindle e-books?)

But yes, I’d love to be able to offer it everywhere. Hopefully, Amazon will change their policy here.

      • If you buy ebooks for people in the UK using the US site, sometimes the recipient can be required to pay the VAT tax, even if you flag it as a “gift.” I actually log-on to Amazon’s UK site and buy it in BPS (the site translates to dollars and my credit card manages).

It doesn’t seem to apply to a hard copy books sent, by post, and marked on the customs form as a gift. So I don’t know how consistent the issue is with Amazon as opposed to buying a hard-copy book from any seller and mailing it. The digital part is weird also because sometimes the Kindle copy is only AVAILABLE in one country or the other, which makes no sense to me at all.

Good luck all, sorry to make it more confusing.

      • bronakopdin

Ah so it’s Amazon who limits that, I had no idea ^^

Too bad though and I wonder if I might try that?
I actually have the print and in fact I prefer prints since I can hold them in my hands and I sure love the smell of books xD

it would just have been convenient to have it digital too 🙂 maybe I try and look around though I wonder if I should reading Chris’
        post below x’D

anyway thanks for your efforts and kindness 🙂
(yeah I know this sounds overblown but hey it’s how I feel ^^)

  • davefragments

Tonight is time for Friday Camping.
Yay. I need a bit of camping.

    • Oh YAY. I’m with you Mr. Dave.

I seriously forgot about the whole Friday page thing. Now I’m way happier. Now then, this is the page where Mitch get’s all young and worked up, and goes off to prove himself and causes everything to get all FUBAR… right? Right?

Wait. Erm… what did I miss?

      (*snort*)

        Maybe. Possibly.

Someone sent me a picture of a thawed turkey carcass leaning back in the sink and holding a bottle of coors light with two peeled onions as the eyes. the caption is “the cooking instructions said let the bird chill for a few hours before cooking.”

So I’m giggling myself into complete silliness right now.

        • At the end of this week, I fear that bird and I are operating intellectually on the same plane. HA!

At least, that’s the way I feel about Thanksgiving. Usually it’s a huge amount of work and some family members always end in tears. (Grown ups, humph).

I have too many international friends who seem to live rich full lives without cooking a turkey (impractical bird) for too many people, with too many side dishes to coordinate. It’s an impossible American holiday.

So, I like that picture. Thank goodness, I’m headed to family up north. Better to be a visitor and stir and serve things than have to organize. Aughhhhh.

I told my Niece that I was tired of cooking (dinner would be at her house) and then sort of gave her permission to go to (get ready) her son’s girlfriend’s grandmother’s house for dinner.
I will make a fine dinner for myself this year.

          • Smoothly done my friend. Very impressive.

I’m required to provide massive hugs to my mother and Aunt this year (my very ill Uncle just passed away) so it’s going to be ONE OF THOSE. But I’m good at those Spooky>Kyle glomping type engulfing hugs, so I’ll earn my keep.

Still the idea of being home and enjoying some peace and quiet is also very appealing. Definitely well played Mistah Bond… well played. 🙂

          • I’m campaigning for chinese food. It’s just the three of us here. The only think I would miss would be the cranberry sauce.

Hmmm, I wonder if there is such thing as a cranberry pie.

          • A lot seem to be mixed with apples. Still looks good. 😀

Chinese food isn’t that much of a treat when I crave brown gravy and stuffing and sweet potatoes. . . I’ll go to the supermarket early next week and buy something nice and fresh.

          • No, it’s really not. But I’m not certain I feel like cooking all of it. But it’s a week away, I might change my mind.

    • DC

My mind went immediately to the Monty Python camp it up march skit, just a bit of silliness.

  • *Peeks in* Hello Youngsters 🙂

Alex, are you around? Any news about the page being an early bird or a night owl? Aka. ‘can I sleep an hour or two longer now, or after the page before I have to get up again in 3 hours’?

  • Hmm.. the TYP site was crashing for me a few minutes just now. Had to go to a cached copy before I could make the actual link work again. Weird.

Anyway, I gave it more than 5mins before I left to nap again this time, so I’m counting on a late-ish page, or waking up to it. So many early plans this week. It interrupting my camp :-p

    • Hmmm you might watch this before you go? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20DF6U1HcGQ

I admit I have a weakness for various tellings of fairy tales…I already own more than one copy (dvd different versions) of Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast….

Most of the day today, Youtube and Disqus were not playing well together. One gets nuts and the other stops and then they trade goofiness.
