Well, that’s not what I usually expect to see when a man opens a trenchcoat in front of me…

BENT-CON 2014 in Los Angeles is just a week away. This will be my fourth year there, it’s a lot of fun for anyone into LGBT comics, and I’d love to see you there too, so be sure to get a badge!

Also, we have new Fan Art! Tsunami Practice by purplefoxglove — which has the second oldest member of The Young Protectors showing a little skin (or, heck, maybe a lotta skin!) Do check it out!

We had our sixty-eighth bonus page in a row on Wednesday, and thanks to your generous donations, and in addition to our regular Saturday updates, there will also be bonus pages on Wednesday, November 5th (page 76!), Wednesday, November 12th (page 78!), Wednesday, November 19th (page 80!), Wednesday, November 26th (page 82!), and an additional bonus page (page 84!) on Wednesday, December 3rd! And look below—we’re already at $149 towards the bonus page after that!

Thank you all so much for your generous support!

So! Seems like those airholes are key to Commander’s plan to save the hostages. Could she have been listening in to your Disqus comments?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • LOL.. that jacket has a lot of secrets.. and magic to not have it hang weird with all the bottles 😉

It’s happening! What is Amanda up to? I want to knoow!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Congratulations, Danish!

      • Thank you.
I got distracted from camping by something I was reading online, and when I finished that I refeshed and there was a page. Was sure I was ‘late’, only to scroll down to 0 comments. Then I got busy ^_^

        • I am actually very shocked I got second comment. O.O

  • And still no Mitch….

    • *Pats* There, there.. he’ll have his grand moment.

      • I know…. but I would settle for just a bit of his sleeve or part of his head, or a bit of leg…

        • stickfigurefairytales

If I had actual Photoshop skills, I would start inserting him into every panel for you.

          • You are now redeemed, and I love the imagery of bits of Mitch being photoshopped into all the panels he isn’t in. It makes me laugh.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Standing reeeeeally awkwardly in the background while Kyle and Duncan are making out.

        • I can just vision you get a peek of Mitch’s hand on a page and go ‘Hand, hand.. there’s a hand!’ *Doki flail*

          • Ah hem. it would be *squeeeee* We get to see Mitch’s hand! ^_^

    • But Mitch is going to take part in the mission.

      • SofiaT

        He is?

        • Well I assumed since they spoke of Mitch seeing the air holes.

          -_-

Dammit! I should go eat something to make my brain work properly

          • SofiaT

It’s lunch time here and I’m starving too… better go have a kit-kat break (without the kit-kat)

          • Terri Sutton

            No kit-kats.
            : (

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Aww. 🙁

          • I have reese’s peanut butter cups waiting after dinner. No kids have come to the door so it’s a free for all. 😀

          • SofiaT

I’ve never had those, I don’t believe we have them here… or do we? Hm….

          • There’s a lot for you to try when you eventually venture to these shores! They are some of my favs.

          • SofiaT
          • stickfigurefairytales

Those look yummy! Do they have caramel inside?

          • SofiaT

Yes! They’re exactly like a mars bar (although I’ve heard that our mars bars are different from the ones in the US) but on a biscuit (you’d call it cookie) pod.

This is what Mars bars look like here: http://coffeedundee.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/mars-bar.jpg

          • stickfigurefairytales

Actually, I don’t think we have Mars bars at all in the US. We have Milky Ways, which are similar, but the nougat is a bit less chocolately, I think. I have performed comparison studies by virtue of liking both of them a lot (I had Mars bars when I was studying abroad in Ireland).

          • We have Mars bars… At least I thought we did. It’s been so long since I bought a candy bar (and if I do it’s usually a hershy’s bar)

          • SofiaT

I usually go for scorched almonds in dark chocolate from Haigh’s, when I want chocolate. http://www.haighschocolates.com.au/dark-scorched-almonds-200g

Commercial stuff from the super market, I go for either twix, mars or kinder, but it’s a very, very rare thing for me to do so.

My downfall is nutella. Chocolate and bread, my two favorite food groups, I can’t say no to.

          • When I lived near a Trader Joes my fav was a 70% (dark chocolate) from Scharfenberger. Good stuff.

Okay, now I need to go have some candy. 😀

          • stickfigurefairytales

I love Toblerone bars myself, although they’re a bit expensive.

          • Whatchamacallit ^_^

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm, maybe it varies from place to place.

          • Probably. It’s not really fair. 😛

          • Hmm, I actually think that finding a Mars bar is like a scavenger hunt. I know some places will have them, but not others.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Ooh!

          • Just don’t ask me who is currently dealing and we are good. I just remember seeing them somewhere at some point because I at one time believed myself to be from Mars (second grade, I had an active imagination). Anything that possibly has to do with space grabbed/grabs my attention in passing.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Oh, I just remembered! Your present should be arriving early next week. 🙂

          • Yay!

          • You mean today (Saturday)? ^_^ I love the stickers!!! And which order do I play them after I get through crazy circus and such? Miles or TaT?

          • stickfigurefairytales

Oh, it came early! Hooray!! The order does not matter much for these, since Miles is just doing his own thing, but I think that AAI is set slightly after T&T.

          • Okay. ^_^

          • You even have snickers pods. I love snickers. I just wish caramel here wasn’t made with corn syrup.

          • SofiaT

            Corn syrup. Blah.

That’s an easy way to destroy my appetite.
I think I’d never be tempted to eat too much in America, knowing the ingredients puts me off from most junk food (nutella doesn’t count).

It’s the same with Cadbury chocolate here. In Europe it’s ok but here it has too many preservatives and I can swear I feel the difference in the taste -makes me feel sick so I haven’t been tempted to touch it since I first arrived in the country.

          • It’s been there so long, most people don’t know the difference. It was there originally to help make hard candy, keep the sugar from crystallizing, but Nixon was looking for a cheap alternative (the sugar lobby is ridiculous here. Brazil it’s so cheap they use it as fuel like we use corn). Most don’t know it’s in there. Most don’t realize it’s in everything. Or that it’s basically poison.

          • SofiaT

Don’t you just hate all those lobbies affecting people’s every day lives even down to what sweetener is in their candy?? [obviously a rhetorical question]

          • Well interesting fact I recently learned. It’s the candy lobby that made it so the US didn’t set their clocks back until after Halloween.

          • SofiaT

            …why am I not surprised?

          • Yay politics!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            THOSE BASTARDS!

          • Yup. Halloween in this country is only second to christmas in profits.

          • stickfigurefairytales

This makes me SO MAD. The fact that corporate lobbies have that much power is one thing that makes me furious. The other is that as far as I am concerned, the ONLY advantage to having Daylight Savings Time at all is so that it’ll be dark when you start trick-or-treating.

          • Exactly. It’s screwed up. It should be dark when people trick or treat. It’s just not the same as it was when I was a kid.

Of course now everyone just goes to parties or drives to other neighborhoods.

          • Librarican

My neighborhood moved trick or treating to Saturday night, so I’m passing out candy this evening. why you ask? Because the high school had a football game on Halloween night and they didn’t want it to conflict. You realize that is like telling kids you need to wait until Dec. 26th to open their Christmas presents!

          • It’s also telling them that football is the most important thing EVAR!

          • Well, it had an actual purpose when it first started, but that reason is obsolete now I believe.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Didn’t it have to do with farmers somehow?

          • I think it had most to do with WW2, to save energy, or something like that. Which really is stupid, because we’re moving one hour to the back end and then moving it back to where it was. That was my favorite thing about living in AZ. No time change.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Sad! (Probably healthier not to be tempted, but still.)

          • You probably can taste a difference. I know there was a difference in some of the things I tried in US vs. my country/Europe.
The sodas was of course an obvious thing. I found myself liking some sodas in US that I don’t care much for in Europe and vice versa. Some of the candy I tried I felt I could taste a difference too, and if not the taste then slightly in texture.

I know Europe is one of the stricter places when it comes to food, and even more so in Scandinavia – or even Denmark alone. There’s been a couple of cases where EU has asked (ordered) Denmark to lower the rules/standard for certain food, so it could be the same as all of EU’s countries.

          • stickfigurefairytales

I knew about Denmark’s strict food standards thanks to that SatW comic!

          • SofiaT

I do think that stricter food standards are better.
And if stuff like genetically modified food are allowed in the market then they need to be appropriately labeled so people know what they’re eating.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            I agree, and approve.

          • SofiaT

I remember when I went to Spain, the Coca-cola there tasted like Pepsi does in Greece. Which is awful.

No idea what either tastes like in the States.
I’ve stopped drinking colas so now I’ll never find out!

          • Yes, it varies a bit in EU too. I’ve found that some German sodas sometimes isn’t as sweet as the Danish variant.
I haven’t tried sodas from that many countries in EU (and some I can’t remember how tasted) but still quite a difference between the corn sirup and sugar ones.

          • I can tell the difference between the coke/pepsi with real sugar and the coke/pepsi with corn syrup. One thing that’s interesting, the coke/pepsi with real sugar fills me up whereas the ones with corn syrup, I can just drink without satiation.

          • SofiaT

Anything that contains sugar makes you thirstier actually… so you keep drinking, which only makes you even more thirsty… it’s a vicious circle.

          • It’s worse with corn syrup because of the way it is absorbed in the body.

          • Maybe that’s why people practiacally drank it like water in US.
I was seriously surprised at how much, and how fast, my friends drank sodas. When we were somewhere I got a small most of the time. I started with a medium from a Burger King when we drove home form the airport, but that was the size of a big cup in my country xD
During a meal I either got the small, or the medium and then had about half with me out, often no need for a re-fill (the free re-fills was a surprise for me too). The others usually had their cup drunk, and got a re-fill on the way out (and they had mediums or big). My reaction every time was pretty much o_o

Clearly I was out of practice with that LOL

I still don’t know if the 36h travel to Ohio, with 4 flights from my place to there, or if it was something in US that did it, but the first 4-5 days I was there I literally went to the bathroom every 30-60mins & 1-2 times during the night.. to pee!
If we were going somewhere I made sure to make a trip to the bathroom first, even if I had just been there 15-20mins before. Then I could make it trough a 1-2 hours drive. It was horrible.
It almost became a joke to scoop out where the bathrooms were everywhere we went. Around day 5-6 it slowed down to every 1-2 hours. I have never peed so much in my life LOL

          • SofiaT

Drinking a couple of glasses of soda a day are a good way to become overweight pretty damn fast!

No wonder there’s such an obesity problem in the western world.

          • It’s also the salt we put in our sodas. 25-30 mg per serving.

Plus we have a fetish with ice. We LOVE ice in the country, so often we have more ice than soda in out cups. At least when I go to the movies, that’s how I limit myself on soda.

          • SofiaT

“Are you thirsty?? Here, take some liquid with sugar and salt in it, that should help… not!!”

Do you get to serve yourself when you go to the movies?

          • Well at this movie theater, the drink stand is self serve. (Still have to have the popcorn dished for us).We pick the size, fill our drink, and then go pay.

Actually in most take-out places the drinks are self-serve, because well free refills. But often they serve ice tea as well, so there is that option.

          • SofiaT

The only place I’ve ever been with free re-fills was Applebee’s -and that’s an American chain, isn’t it?

I can’t remember if I’ve ever had McDonalds but I don’t believe they offer free re-fills neither here nor back home.

…Actually, no, I just remembered. Nando’s in the UK offers free re-fills but that’s it.

The concept is not a common one either in Europe or Australia, in any case.

I wonder what’s the deal in the States. Are they trying to fill people up with empty calories?? And for free? What’s the benefit to them? o.O

          • More of our crappy politics. Much of our information is outdated and what the (I think) FDA says we should eat is what pig farmers feed to make their pigs fat for slaughter.

It’s like Stick said, many of the big lobbies run the country by buying off the house and senate. Jessie Ventura (I think it was him) suggested that politicians should have to wear their sponsors logos, much like race cars, to let everyone one know who owns them.

          • stickfigurefairytales

You were in Ohio?!?! If you’re ever in Ohio again, let me know for sure!

          • Oh sorry, I’ll correct it. I was in Iowa + Nebraska. One of my friends, who was also there, is from Ohio. I got that mixed together. But IF I ever get around to Ohio, I’ll ket you know 🙂

          • Terri Sutton

Cadbury chocolate made in Australia has gelatine added to it so that it doesn’t melt in the summer.

          • SofiaT

            Maybe that’s it then.

            It tastes very… chemically?

          • Mmmh, looks good. We don’t have those here. Just the normal mars, snickers, twix etc.

          • Terri Sutton

You can get Reese Peanut Butter Cups in Aus. But they are totally awful as they are imported.

          • SofiaT

I bought overpriced Greek chocolate here once, from a Greek deli. Had missed the taste of home so I thought it would be worth the extra $$.

Didn’t taste anything like it should. It was made in Greece so I wonder if the way it was transported was the reason -I know that the taste of chocolate that has been frozen alters significantly once its thawed.

          • Terri Sutton

Refrigeration makes chocolate go stale. It is why we put gelatine in chocolate rather than store them in fridges in shops.

          • DC

We do. I love them. You can find them in the Reject shop and in specialty lolly/confectionery stores.

          • SofiaT

I’ve never bought food from the Reject shop, it’s probably why I haven’t seen them.

          • I tried those when I was in US. Not my thing. Maybe because I’ve never really been into peanut butter, as it’s not something that’s commonly eaten here even though you can find it in stores.
I found them a bit too.. salty, if that’s the right word.

          • Salt and sugar, two of the US favorite ingredients. 🙂

          • D. Garrett

true. which is why i <3 payday candy bars.

          • And why chocolate covered pretzels are to die for (personal opinion)

          • Librarican

Peanut butter stuffed pretzels…. They have become my Kryptonite recently. I go through a whole container in less than a week.

          • Those are so good!

          • D. Garrett

they are really good. havent had any in forever though. *scratches my head. i guess i just forget about them for some reason. :-/

          • It’s a bummer that it’s hard to find ones without corn syrup in the pretzel. >:(

          • SofiaT

I like to make pancakes and serve them with home-made hot chocolate ganache and peanutbutter!

It is salty, but that’s why it goes so well with chocolate (I also like peanutbutter with raspberry jam… and if you pair it with honey, it tastes almost like tahini).

            Very versatile!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Poor Doki…it’s been quite a drought lately, hasn’t it?

      • Not the longest one… but haven’t really seen him since they used him as binoculars. -_-

        • stickfigurefairytales

I wanted to do some kind of innuendo thing with “I’d like to use HIM as binoculars”, but 1) that was just repeating your words, not changing them around somehow, and 2) I have no idea what that innuendo would mean.

          • EyeDontNo

I think the term you’re looking for is ‘telescope;.

  • Terri Sutton

Spooky is geared up the way I imagined all of my RPG characters.

  • DC

A rainbow coloured collection of ectoplasmic spells??

  • SofiaT

Now we know why he’s always wearing that trench-coat!

    Inspector Gadget!

    • Ha! I was going to say something about the trench coat, but after Inspector Gadget I have nothing. 😀

      • SofiaT

You could say something about Bogart?
“Here’s looking at you kid… with all these potions”. 😀

Of course, now we know the purpose of the trench-coat… we need to discover the purpose of that baseball cap!

  • LOVE THE FANART! Glad I didn’t see that before the page was up.

I will live with the pretence that this was made for me, since I helped decide the theme ;D

    • I love the fanart too! Very, very nice.

      • purplefoxglove

Thank you ^^ While drawing, I got the suspicion that the reason why Gordon was rejected by other superhero groups might have been that he kept distracting both his enemies and his teammates with that well-defined naked upper body of his 😛

    • Yeah, that is really nice fan art. ^_^

      • purplefoxglove

Glad you like it ^_^ I think you’ll get to see Mitch next – can’t make any promises when I’ll have time for it, sadly.

        • *squeee* MITCH FANART AT SOME UNDETERMINED FUTURE DATE!! YAY

    • stickfigurefairytales

Yes, I love it too! We have so many talented people around here. Great job, purplefoxglove!

      • purplefoxglove

Thank you! 😀 My motivation to do more has not yet subsided 🙂

        • stickfigurefairytales

          I heartily approve!

    • purplefoxglove

You’re totally welcome – and I actually had you in mind while working on it 😀 As a late birthday gift, I shall dedicate it to you 🙂

      • YAY! <3

        • purplefoxglove

Is it OK if I put your nickname under the description on deviantart?

          • Sure 🙂 I don’t mind.
I’m on dA myself, so I can fave art, even if I haven’t been active much lately. Also named DanishWolf on there (not to mistake with another dA user with the same name but spelled Danish-Wolf)

          • purplefoxglove

Found you and added dedication 🙂

          • Any idea where I find it myself? I haven’t really been on dA in months, and can’t see anything about a mention anywhere.
Could you klink me to your dA? I want to fave it 🙂

          • purplefoxglove
  • Maybe I’ll cosplay as Spooky next year for Yaoi-con and Halloween! I’ll have a cap from the Kickstarter and I can sew a bunch of pockets and outfit them with bottles of magical colored stuff in a trenchcoat!

    • Yay! That’d be awesome! 🙂

    • Heh! I already had that thought too, about the cosplaying (except the bottles, that would be added) if I made it to YaoiCon. Also because I’ll bring the cap if I do 🙂

      • WE CAN BE TWIN SPOOKYS!!!! Alex would be so tickled!

        • YES! I really, really keep hoping I can somehow make it there for 2015. It’s a long shot, but I certainly haven’t given up.
We’d need the caps for sure, or have a mio people assume we’re Castiel 😉 I hope my big head can fit in it *lol*

          • I was actually thinking if I was going to be Spooky on one day, I’d be Castiel on the other 🙂

        • That would be doubly awesome! 😀

    • Yay! I’ve wanted to cosplay Amanda, so perhaps I will join you ^^

      • You would be sooo perf as Amanda, Starr!

      • pssst Starr, which costume won your prize at work? and apparently Little Ceasers has a pretzel pizza I would like to try…

        • Hehe the quick pic I posted on Twitter/Tumblr. My random anime character XD

  • SofiaT

Alex. I just read the commentary and I must say, I really do hope men don’t open their trench-coats to you often!

…Well, not in parks and not in an unsolicited way, at least.

    • Terri Sutton

Maybe Alex is into that and we shouldn’t judge him for it.

      • SofiaT

It was obviously a joke -but I don’t think anyone is into having someone jumping in front of them and exposing themselves to him/her without invitation. That’s as much a violation of people’s sexuality as is touching them without permission.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Aw, I missed camping. But on the plus side, I finished my paper proposal for the IAFA conference!

    • Not much camping, the page was very early. But glad you’re here!

Yay for finishing papers. What’s the IAFA?

      • stickfigurefairytales

It’s the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. (That encompasses fantasy, sci fi, horror, basically anything with “fantastic” elements to it.) They have an annual conference every year in March in Orlando, FL and it’s always a blast! Lots of friendly geeks full of awesome insights about books and movies and stuff.

        • Oooh, sounds cool. What’s your paper about?

          • stickfigurefairytales

It’s about the use of fairy tales in the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena. I’ve been wanting to write a paper about that series for ages!

          • Definitely cool!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            😀

  • JesBelle

My husband wants to know if the test tubes are full of printer ink.

    • Terri Sutton

Ink cartridges are so expensive nowadays that you have to magiked them into existence.

  • I sooo wanna know what each of those bottles/tubes contain. Also those strap ‘boxes’.
My guess is that the paper/books are various spells, encantations and notes – but I could be wrong. Spooky almost has a rainbow and a library in his coat.

I’m sure Spooky could do some serious bippedy-boppidy-boo with those items.

    • SofiaT

I think the notebooks contain spells or instructions to create potions and stuff but it’s that solitary small tube of paper that intrigues me… is it a on-the-go spell that you can maybe burn to activate?

      • Klaus

If burnt, it will release a spell that fills a fairly small room with a faintly unpleasant smell.

    • Klaus

Bottles, first row: rasberrw, lemon,. mint, lime.
      Second row: strawberry, gooseberry, blueberry.

      • Terri Sutton

        No Kiwi?

        • Klaus

Maybe your question answers Samurai Jack’s above.

      • I think you’re forgetting snozberry. Don’t forget snozberry.

        • Klaus

I did not forget. I had never heard of it before. But now that I have, I don’t think Spooky would have any bottled.

          • Probably not. Willy Wonka probably has a corner on it.

          • Terri Sutton

Willy Wonka is a charlatan compared to Spooky.

          • Well, we haven’t seen if Spooky can make chocolate yet. But I could believe that Willy stole the idea of the everlasting gobstopper from Spooky.

          • … but Wonka sounded so happy when mentioning snozberries…. and Wonka would never led us wrong

    • Terri Sutton

One of them definitely contains Absinthe.

    • Keneu

Don’t tell Sircea, though. She may get jealous she’s not the only one pulling magic tricks.

  • stickfigurefairytales

I hope Spooky doesn’t ever trip and fall – even if those bottles and test tubes are made of stuff that wouldn’t shatter, it definitely would not be fun to land on all of that!

    • Terri Sutton

You’d have to be very confidant in your special awareness to do that.

Or maybe the glass has an unbreakable enchantment on it. Or Spooky created them specifically not to have any affect on his person.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Or Spooky’s like a cat and always lands on his feet!

  • Toli Bera

Can anybody spontaneously teleport? might solve a few problems. XD

    • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm, I think the only person we’ve seen so far who can teleport is Sircea. And she’s not going to help them stop her.

      • Klaus

And she had time to prepare, if necessary.

  • It’s a Utility Coat. Kinda like Batman’s utility belt. I think the scale is weighing more in Spooky’s favor.

  • TwilightDreamer

rofl!! I literally broke into laughter when Spooky opened his coat, that’s awesome! XD

  • davefragments

    oh am I late.
Nice page. There’s more plan and how much more about Spooky that is hidden?

  • So we see what is on the left side of his coat, but what is on the right side?

    • SofiaT

A comb, some hair pomade… you know, Fonzie style.

    • Terri Sutton

That is where he keeps the autograph photos of himself for the fans.

      • purplefoxglove

Now I want one – do you think Alex would put some into his shop?

        • Terri Sutton

Maybe if we ask very nicely.

        • Hmm… That’s actually not a bad idea…..

          • Klaus

Do you think you can get Spooky to fly in to sign photos?

          • He is a busy guy, but I do have some pull. 😉

          • purplefoxglove

Yes, yes, yes – does it help that tomorrow is my birthday? ;D

          • Happy Birthday!!! (in case I forget tomorrow)

          • purplefoxglove

            Aw, that’s cute – thank you! 🙂

          • Happy Birthday!!! (in case I forget tomorrow)

          • It helps because knowing that allows me to wish you a very happy birthday in advance!

I HOPE YOU HAVE AN AWESOME BIRTHDAY TOMORROW, PURPLEFOXGLOVE! 😀

          • purplefoxglove

😀 Thank you so much, Alex! 😀

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Happy birthday!!

          • purplefoxglove

            Thank you! 😀

          • Happy Birthday!

          • purplefoxglove

            Thank you, Jane! 🙂

    • D. Garrett

thats where the large mirror is that he is going to use to capture and imprison sircea.

  • Sapfo

Trick or treat? Oh Alex you do give good treats 😀

    • That he does 🙂 I’ll even take one of his pages over chocolate.

      • Sapfo

Well chocolate is good, but so is also a new page. Don´t make me chose between them!
Can I please have a chocolate coved page?
Oh no! That was not a good combo. -_-

        • ….that might actually be a really good combo…. ^_^ O:-)

      • Zeruk

I totally misread that as chocolate covered pages….and well-I mean why not?

  • SofiaT

(It’s currently 34 degrees Celsius with torrential rain and strong winds that came out of nowhere. Spring time in Sydney!)

    • Terri Sutton

My grandparents just had an argument about whether or not it was raining. The sound of it gently raining is the exact same sound of the tin roof crackling in the heat.

      • SofiaT

Now it’s raining and the sun is out!!!
How can it rain when it’s sunny?? (not that I’m complaining, mind you. And I do like the smell of rain.)

        • Time to look for a rainbow 🙂

          • SofiaT

Oh, we got plenty of those!
            Sub-tropical climate and all 🙂

        • Terri Sutton

Sun showers my favourite. Much more pleasant than dry winds during heavy showers.

          • I got to see a sun thunder storm once. It was good. ^_^

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Ooh!

        • Kai927 .

Come to Oregon, USA. That happens all the time here.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Wow! Crazy!

      • SofiaT

I do love Aussie nature! 😀

  • Sapfo

I remember something AJ said about me sneaking around in a trenchcoat. Sorry gal! I gave it to Spooky, he seemed to need it more then I do 😉

    • Apparently he does. 😀

      • Sapfo

I will help in the good fight with anything I can. And how could I say no to him when he looked at me all cute. making me blush like the innocent I am …. I am sure Chris agrees that I am a total innocent <.<

        • Of course. There is no saying not to Spooky when he offers that cute little grin of his.

Well, at least you’re not trying to trick anyone with a fake halo. 😀

          • Sapfo

Oh darn it! Where did I put the halo… Did not find it But I did find my wings #^_^# my batwings

        • purplefoxglove

Now, now, we totally understand. There’s no reason to pretend the trenchcoat was the only thing that came off when he gave you those puppy eyes.

  • Choreocrat

Psst… wanna buy a spell? Special deal, just for you.

    • purplefoxglove

      I’ll take them all.

  • Jack Burton: “What’s inside?”
Egg Shen: “Wind, Fire, all that sort of thing!”
Jack Burton: “What does this do… exactly?”
Egg Shen: “Gives a HUGE buzz!”

    • Lucky that Bilbo wasn’t wearing Spooky’s coat when he asked what was in his pocket. 😛

      • purplefoxglove

I don’t know – Gollum would never have guessed “enough magical potions, spells and arcane books to equip an entire army.”

        • Ha! True, but it would have been very interesting.

  • silibub

Spooky has a vial of Gatorade for every step of this process. Prepare! Perform! Recover!

  • Adam Irving

“Hey kids, wanna buy a watch, er, potion?”

  • I think all the Spooky on this page is doing things to me. That big smile, the dialog, a close-up and him flashing us Spooky-style, and I have SO many innuendo/straight up naughty comments flashing through my mind.. more than usual that is *ahem*
(Some of that reaction may partly because I haven’t slept yet, or maybe not).

I have really been good about not posting them all over the comments. This is supposed to be a serious sitation here >.> … but that dialog!
It’s not the tricks in Spooky’s sleeves that comes to my mind, and he comes prepared so he can show me his tube any ti- *Gibbs smack self*

Alex, you’re not making this easy!

  • karmakat

spooky must be using magic on his coat to not go “CLANG CLANG” everytime he just moves an arm or even just a finger i swear.

    • Terri Sutton

Who is to say that he does make a lot of noise when moving but everyone just politely ignores it.

      • karmakat

i don’t think a bad guy would be “polite” lol

        • Terri Sutton

Just because villains want to take over the world doesn’t mean that they are without manners. And also if no else is mentioning it than is it really happening, so many practical jokes are based on that premise.

          • SofiaT

            Savoir-vivre villains.

      • LimpBiskit

uuuuuugh now i have this awful hilarious head-canon of Spooky clanking and clinking around and everyone acting like they don’t hear it… and one day a random baddie commenting on it XD

        • Terri Sutton

If that includes everyone then proceeding to stare at this baddie like he/she/ze is crazy, then you have my head-canon.

          • LimpBiskit

            Perfection 😛

          • LimpBiskit

That is to say, THAT was exactly what I mindmovie’d XD
Alex ol buddy ol pal, that would be an awesome outtake/blooper in the future. Just sayin’ *nudge wink*

  • Kit Jamea

You know, it suddenly occurs to me that in any story if you discuss the plan before you go through with it, it NEVER works.

  • D. Garrett

i cant wait to see spooky multi-task. gonna be awesome.

  • justkeepondriving

Hahaha Alex I’m loving you cracking all the dirty jokes in your captions!

  • Samurai Jack

What’s Spooky got on the other side of his coat? There’s got to be something to balance out all that weight.

I think this every week… This team needs more women/girls. I hope it eventually gets them.

    • Sanbai

Yeah… I know it’s a “yaoi/m-m” romance comic, but seriously, the “smurfette” syndrome is occurring on both ends of the good/bad spectrum. Alex could at least have passed the Bechdale test in the “present” tense (I know the comic passes in the ‘several years ago’ bonus comic, but that’s barely a few panels.) Oh well…

  • Klaus

    No complaint from Mitch yet?

    • Terri Sutton

I think he may have miraculously been transported to another plane.

      • SofiaT

Or he’s building up to a huge “what about me, guys???”

There is, of course, the chance he has more maturity in these circumstances than Paul and Gordon combined, and stays silent because he realizes this isn’t the time to be whiny.

  • Klaus

    DING DING!

  • bronakopdin

so now we know the prupose of the never missing Spooky coat 😀

somehow this remembered me on my friends Resident Evil 4 game xD

    the merchant ^^

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEAakGOwSqw

  • bandanajack

damn this is taking a long time to reach its climax and denouement! the only consolation is the great art work along the way.

speaking of, have you gotten any photos of fans in YP costumes for halloween (or streetwear if so inclined)?

  • Jac

Why is everyone SO GOSHDAMN CUTE

  • Nate

Now that is one well-organized “utility coat”.

  • Mary Klemzak

Wow. I’m impressed with his utility coat.

“Psst. Ya wanna buy a vowel?!?”

  • Cydney Sabin

Surprisingly, that IS what I expect when someone opens their trenchcoat in front of me…

    • that is what I WANT to see when someone opens their trenchcoat in front of me ^__^

  • WiseDragonQueen .

Just a few tricks up his sleeve, barely worth mentioning…

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

Just a few tricks? as long as he doesn’t grab for an energy drink instead of what he really needs…..not sure if Gatorade would do it…..even if it is his favorite flavor 🙂

    • Terri Sutton

I’m sure if you threw a energy drink at a person’s head hard enough you could do some damage.

  • fusrohdahskryim

holy crap his coat is AWESOME!

  • Dat grin

  • purplefoxglove

Now, Spooky, PLEASE don’t mix up the love potion with the mesmerisation potion…

    • DC

      Lovely Tsunami fanart 🙂

      • purplefoxglove

Thank you ^_^ More to come.

  • Wohoo! Another *Ding, ding, ding* 🙂

  • Jackal

I bet Spooky always has the best drugs.

  • Pikinanou

My guess is that, by now, Mitch has already thrown himself in the fray, unable to wait any longer to deal with Anni and PP 😀

  • Megan Staples

The Boy Scouts and Spooky… Be prepared.

  • Sanbai

Yeah…I expect to see a few Rolexes and bracelets! Come on!

  • Zeruk

When Isaw this page all i could think about was gamzee and those blood potions…

  • Derkins

So that answers the trench coat question

    • It was a question?

      • Derkins

        Yes. It was: “Why?” 😉

  • A side site note.

I went to archives to fall into the story like 4 from the end, and I found myself back at the police station. It hasn’t been updated in a while.

I thought that was odd. I guess it’s not updated automatically after all.

    • Howdy J.E.M.,

The Archives are actually updated with every page, it’s just that Chapter 3 and the Bonus Comic are separate chapters, so my webcomic software keeps them separate in the Archives. Because Chapter 3 was started before the Bonus Comic, the software placed the Bonus Comic pages after the (continually updated) Chapter 3 pages. If you scroll in the Archives to just above the Bonus Comic, you’ll be able to see all the pages that have been posted up over the last few weeks.

I agree this is odd and not ideal. But it will be resolved once the book is out and the Bonus Comic is removed from the site. 🙂

    • stickfigurefairytales

For a moment there I thought you meant you found yourself at a police station in real life, and I was a bit concerned about that unexpected side effect.

  • D. Garrett

Some of spooky’s spells: 1. itch potion. intense itching sensation once the fumes in the vial reach the perp’s skin. they must drop any and all weapons and scratch themselves so intensely they draw blood. leaving themselves vulnerable to attack. 2. hallucination potion. when the liquid in the vial touches the minions skin, they see land sharks, childhood boogeymonsters, etc. charging them, causing them to flee for their lives. 3. horny spell. lol. only thing they can do is fall back and masturbate or try to have sex with someone. he he he. that one gives me the giggles. imagine in the middle of a battle….anybody else have any ideas?

  • Jeffrey Jacobson

I’m thinking that all this planning is going to end with, “Ooops! While we were talking, they finished the spell!”

    • Klaus

The timer is misleading. Oldest trick in the book.

  • It sounds a little familiar. Except… well the death rays.

    http://tinyurl.com/ot4yfwh

  • Thanatopia

Huh! Nice trenchcoat, Spooky! I’m going to assume it’s one of “M on the outside, XXXXXXXXL on the inside” types! Very chic!

  • PROBLEM SOLVED!

Okay, look at Spooky’s trench coat bottles, the top row.

The first one on the left, the ?magenta-ish? one is body lotion. So if he’s trying to pick you up and offers you a massage… “No, really, just a massage. It’s good for helping relax your muscles. Promise! Truuuuust me.” First, just say YES really fast and trust him… it is JUST lotion, but it smells super good.

The second bottle, the yellow one, is just hair gel to keep him looking cool and prevent ‘cap hair’. So ignore that one.

BUT! The third, blue one, is the ticket. When he smashes that to the ground and it shatters, blue smoke everywhere and Spooky utters the proper words. BLAMMO! It summons DEACON! Yes, ARTIFICE, Deacon.

    ALERT: NERD/GEEK ALERT AHEAD!!!

Then while Spook, who actually understands HELL takes on Sircea who only thinks she understands HELL (erm… she’s NOT Solomon). DEACON takes on DUNCAN in a battle royale!

Heh! Pretty cool huh? I’d pay to see that.

Amanda and Paul take on minions and Kyle and Tsunami destroy the diabolical sphincter and figure out how to extract our kids-in-the-box.

    TA DA!

See? All we needed was DEACON.

    • Klaus

      Mitch! What about Mitch?

      • Terri Sutton

He’s in one of the little vials.

    • D. Garrett

oh my god. u just said diabolical sphincter! das funny. but wouldnt that describe the demon, (i forget his name. oops) kyles supposed father, best??? or at least that part of the demons anatomy? he he.

      • Laampros, I think Kyle gets his good looks from his daddy.

  • Galderman

By the GODS I want Spooky’s trench coat right now!!!

  • OnyxLight

Loving where this is going thus far

  • Again, Kyle is always concerned for others before himself. And he’s so darn cute. And for the record: Spooky = genius.

  • Saxon_Brenton

I will also express my appreciation for Spooky’s trenchcoat. However I must wonder whether he always has that amount of stuff on him. I mean, maybe he does. But on the other hand, maybe he usually has a smaller array of general utility items and spells on him, and only now that he’s going into battle has he gone and geared up. (Which in turn would imply that he mantains a separate stash of more specific magics for combat purposes and simply selects what he needs, kind of like an RPG character in a campiagn where the GM is strict about following the encumberance rules…).

Ah, but even as I type out these words a treacherous part of my mind is screaming: “What!? Spooky doesn’t have access to Hammerspace!?”

    • Terri Sutton

Me: I cast “No Encumbrance” upon myself.
GM: That’s not a real spell!
Me: Well, it obviously didn’t cost anything to cast then.

  • Terri Sutton

    Happy Camping Day people.

    • Well.. it was going ok… but then Grease II came on the tv….I had almost successfully forgotten that existed.

      • Terri Sutton

I found Grease II to be enjoyable.

But then again, I have watched Super Mario Bros: The Movie, so my sh*tty movie tolerance has been bjorked.

        • heh, I really liked Super Mario Bros ^_^ Trust the fungus.

          • Terri Sutton

My mind has literally deleted that film from my memory.

I remember putting that tape in then the sequel hook and the start of Roxette’s Almost Unreal and the rolling of credits. All of that in between is totally gone.

      • I must admit, I didn’t mind Grease 2 either. I found the guy to be a lot more attractive. 😛

        • Terri Sutton

Are you talking about Maxwell Caulfield or Adrian Zmed?

          • I believe Maxwell. Be still my young heart.

          • Terri Sutton

He looked quite a bit like James Dean didn’t he?
            🙂

          • And the accent… sigh.

    • Happy Camping Day to you!

  • If I don’t make it to the next page… it will be because catching up on Cans of Beans is killing me with laughter

    • DC

Good, another one to add to my ever growing list bookmarked to read later 🙂

      • Read the comments under the page as well. ….You will miss out on some great sh*t if you don’t read the comments… I think I am actually having a growing very deep affection for the creator because of the replies they leave…

  • davefragments

There’s too much gone on today. I need a bit of peaceful camping

    • Terri Sutton

It has been quite today. Does that count as peaceful?

      • davefragments

The cleaning ladies come in like 4 hurricanes. I voted and when I went to pull out, had a flat tire. I had to wait an hour to get AAA. Then my tummy decided to revolt from an errant bowl of minestrone soup (from a friend) that had (of all things) cabbage in it. So I need a more than anything – nothing going on. Camping is nice. Camping is friendly.

        • Terri Sutton

Camping is nice and camping is friendly. Even when an argument breaks out, which is really weird, considering that this is the internet.

        • silibub

Crappy day! I hope you’re able to unwind now.

          • Hello silibub!

          • silibub

            Yo!

          • davefragments

heave ho and raise the anchor

          • silibub

            Aye, matey.

          • Acintyabedhabedhadasa

            And spanker!

          • davefragments

I had to look that up!

          • silibub

*twirls paddle* Wait, I may have misinterpreted.

          • davefragments

I’m listening to politics and it’s gotten silly because they’ve been on the air for nearly 5 hours and they are all punchy and trying to take more minutes than the next person. Funny to watch.

        • One thing after another. Definitely deserve to put the feet up and just relax. 😀

        • Oh dear that is quite a day! My grandmother fell this morning (she is mostly ok) and yesterday I was woken up before/around sunrise with cramps and nothing to take for them. So I can sympathize.

          • davefragments

well, I can’t identify with cramps. Sorry about that.

          • You have no idea how lucky you are.

  • Oh Starr won’t be making it tonight 🙁

  • Steven Klimecky

I know we are supposed to be respectful of all people’s positions and inclinations and persuasions, etc., but I can’t help saying that if Mitch McConnell becomes Senate majority leader (as seems likely at the moment), I’m really going to have to somehow keep from vomiting.

    • davefragments

I worked for six presidents – start at Gerald Ford – None of them with the same policy or party. . . Even in second terms they change policy. You cope with it.

      • Steven Klimecky

I just think a lot of people are going Republican because of their unfounded fear of and reaction to gays (gay marriage) and Hispanics (immigration, etc.), and somehow not wanting more people to have access to health care.

        • James Wade

No, its more likely the usual 6th year slump.

    • Terri Sutton

Will it comfort you to know that there are people out there who have no idea who this “Mitch McConnell” is?

      • Keneu

*raises hand* one of those know-it-nothings here!

        • James Wade

Actually we had a politcal party known as the “Know Nothings”.

          • Terri Sutton

That is awesome, but I still reckon that the Australian Sex Party is the best political party in the world.

          • Not sure I trust a party with the acronym ASP. 😀

          • Keneu

            Why?

          • Steven Klimecky

Asp = poisonous fanged snake (a species/variety of).

          • davefragments

A favorite of Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile.

          • Steven Klimecky

I almost included that bit of info as well – lol.

          • Keneu

Could be a party of snakes in the grass.

          • Terri Sutton

That acronym was good enough for Harry Potter’s boy it’s good enough for anyone!

          • Steven Klimecky

I’m kinda guessing here from my somewhat more limited knowledge of the story — Albus Severus Potter?

          • silibub

Urgh, trying to forget that epilogue exists.

          • Adam Black

I dont know about that. They would have to earn my vote first

      • Steven Klimecky

Maybe a little – nice to know he’s actually inconsequential to many people in the world, even though he will be an instrumental leader now in U.S. policy (and one of the handful of the most powerful political leaders in the U.S.).

        • Keneu

          But who is he?

Mitch McConnell is the senior senator from Kentucky and he will be Majority Leader in the Senate. That is a big and powerful position in the Legislative branch of government.

          • Keneu

Thanks! I’m not from the US, so I had no idea.

          • davefragments

We have a rather unique political system in the USA. It’s mostly incomprehensible to anyone in another country.

          • Keneu

Er, I wouldn’t say so. If you looked at the politicians of my country, I don’t know whether you’d laugh or cry. Anyways, I’m not very interested in politics, but it’s always good to know who those in power are, because they have power over you and your surroundings. And since US politics affect the whole world, even more so.

          • Steven Klimecky

Exactly – that’s why I think this situation is not quite as inconsequential to the rest of the world as some could assume, even if they don’t know who this fellow is.

          • Keneu

Yeah. It’s a bit unfair to the rest of the world to depend on who the US citizens vote, but that’s how it is. :/

          • davefragments

We have a few elected officials that I cringe when I think of them. Right now, one congressman is going to trial next Month and his voters reelected him. Marion Barry (mayor of Washington DC got caught smoking cocaine. I won’t say anymore. You are not alone.

          • Steven Klimecky

He is the current minority (Republican) leader in the U.S Senate. But if the Republicans pick of a majority of seats in the U.S. Senate (they are almost there – just one seat away) – he will become the majority leader, and also both houses of the U.S. legislature (both the House of Representatives an the Senate) will be in Republican (anti-gay, anti-women, anti-choice, anti-poor, pro-war, pro-guns, pro-wealthy, etc., etc.) control.

          • Keneu

I heard the news on the TV but names weren’t mentioned. If Republicans control both the Congress and the Senate, could laws still be passed?

          • davefragments

Well that’s unknown. They can’t refuse to rule but they don’t want to give Obama or a democrat credit. It’s going to be a really strange two years. Likes I said above – I worked for every president from Gerald Ford to Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan to George HW Bush, to Bill Clinton, to GW Bush and they all were different from each other. Plus congress changes. The world does not stop spinning. The sun shines and the rain falls.

          • Keneu

Wow! You worked for several presidents? It sounds very interesting, but very stressing and exhausting too.

          • davefragments

The way it works is that policy changes. For instance Carter used to give money for energy research to small business and let us do lots of research inside the government facility. Reagan gave money to big business and didn’t do in-house research . So you adjust to the policy and execute it.

          • silibub

I want to like write a love letter to your pragmatism — this is comforting on multiple levels.

          • davefragments

I learned how to deal with it. One of the says is the Tao Te Ching (The Way of the Dao).

          • Steven Klimecky

Now the Republicans can more easily get through any laws they want. To stop them taking effect, President Obama would have to veto what they pass.

          • Steven Klimecky

Although the Senate Democrats could fillibuster EVERYTHING that their majority Republican colleagues try to pass, just like the Repubs have been doing to the Democrats in the Senate ever since Obama was elected.

          • Keneu

So, to sum it up, it could become an ungovernable country, like Italy? I hope at least they agree on important subjects, like when they didn’t let the country go into suspension of payments (I don’t know if it’s said like that, sorry :S). Not that health care, human rights, sexual freedom and the like aren’t important subjects… but yeah.

          • Steven Klimecky

Oh that was one of the things that the Republicans were/are hugely in favor of in order to pressure getting their way. They zealously advocated such things.

          • Adam Black

Unlike Italy we are not a Parliamentary Democracy.

The President still controls the executive branch. But nearly all law making , and many appointments have been frozen at the federal level for 4 years. .

But yes, It could easily become a choice between suspension of payments or take away millions of peoples health care. Budget Bills can be passed with a simple majority if there is presidential assent, so expect them to be packed with terrible laws

The few things the parties have agreed on have been awful.

But we also have divided government at the local level..US States have legal and lawmaking powers nearly equal to the national government.

The problem is the US become an Empire with extensive internal infrastructures, and institutions , controlled by Federal expenditures, after World War 2.

A large part of the Private economy and running of the local states is dependent on the federal expenditures. Even if they wanted to, most states dont have the resources to pick up the slack.

The US cant go backward , because that was a time before the whole country had electricity, and didnt have a highways .

Worse one of the parties dogmatically like to pretend this spending doesnt underpin the entire economy. So many of these local states wouldnt even spend this money ( on science research , infrastructures ) if they could .

          • Adam Black

Except for 2 things. Democrats weakend the filibuster last year.
            and

Republicans can pass a budget by simple majority, no fillibuster.

Thats was how Health care Reform passed .
Although to be fair 59 out of 100 Senators is a large majority.

Thats why Budgets havent been passed since. Republicans have tried to repeal ACA on every Budget since

          • Adam Black

            Obama can veto almost everything.
The problem is he agrees with the Republicans 50% of the time.

Hes not fighting for Net Neutrality, hes letting the NSA run amok, hes willing to slash Social Security . He pre-emptively compromises. The ACA would have been a much stronger and sounder law, both legally and for benefits if it contained a Public Option. Becuase it doesnt, it was nearly repealed, and millions of people are now locked out of medicare plans and subsidized private plans.

While its the Republican fault in the state level AND John Roberts fault for breaking the law, this was only possible because Obama gave away the Public option preemptively to get Republican support. Once Republicans fillibustered the bill, anyways , Democrats could have easily added the Public Option back to the bill.

Obamacare is extremely popular in Republican southern states that run it, like Kentucky. Republican Voters would not have given up a Public Health Care Option once they had one. IMHO.

Ironically, the only reason Obama hasnt already slashed Social Security is that Republicans kept moving the goal posts. Obama agreed to their cuts and they demanded more. Its true.

I am thankful the Republicans have been so dysfunctional in the past two years. When they agree with the President , we get cuts, we get NDAA, we get anti-occupy, anti-protest laws, we get CISPA, we get SOPA , we get chained CPI social security cuts.

          • Steven Klimecky

            I should have added anti-immigration, anti-heathcare access/equity.

          • Keneu

Ugh. Why there is so much polarity in US political parties? I mean, is there no other options other than Republican or Democrat?

          • davefragments

            I don’t think I have an answer

          • There are other options….technically, but they are less likely to win elections. Though when I voted last week I voted neither Democrat or Republican where I could.

          • Steven Klimecky

It’s the ageless and unceasing battle of good vs. evil, light vs. darkness.

          • Steven Klimecky

With a lot of muddying of the waters in-between, granted.

          • Adam Black

Because the US has a First-past-the-post voting system, which mathematically makes 3rd parties to be only spoilers.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tWHJfhiyo

We have lots of other options, but in practice none count but the top 2.

The solution is instant run-off elections, or ranked voting, but that would require the top 2 parties ceding power.

        • Terri Sutton

Ask yourself one question. Is he going to be worse than George Dubya Bush?

Remember if enough people refuse to acknowledge your existence, do you actually exist?

          • Steven Klimecky

Oh – he IS worse than W. (who I think was stupid and misguided and controlled) – just not in QUITE as powerful of a position. McConnell is evil and much less stupid (just my opinion).

  • Kuca

Yay, I didn’t work late tonight and I get to camp!

  • Well again, big TYP-pers! How goes the camping?

    • *is sitting in a circle of candles praying for Mitch on the new page*

      • Keneu

        *joins prayer*

        • Acintyabedhabedhadasa

“Hail Cthulhu, please devout us your servants last.”

          • silibub

How much time would that buy? No idea how quickly C’thulu eats.

          • Keneu

I hope Laampros’ appetite is not as voracious.

      • davefragments

I think that Mitch is going to have to save the hostages. No one is left of TYP

      • silibub

        *wafts incense your way*

      • Terri Sutton

        *begins chanting*

  • fujoshifanatic

Darn, the new page isn’t up yet. This election has me totally bummed, and I live in a state full of dim-witted voters. 🙁 I need some TYP to lift my spirits.

    • *hugs* I feel ya. Though I just want some Mitch on the next page.

  • Hi all. In for camping.

Um, I don’t mean to be weird but I have a lump on my head. It’s been there my entire life so that’s not a big deal. Years ago doctors said it was just a flaw in my skull. Well, I’ve noticed it’s been getting larger over the last few months and now I think I’m getting headaches from it.

Anyway, I tell you all this because I’m going to the doctor tomorrow and I’m a little scared, truth be told. My brother said it’s probably just calcifying though they might recommend removing it but I can’t help but worry.

Wish me luck on this if you don’t mind. It would be nice going into the doctor in the morning with lots of positive thoughts from friends.

    • davefragments

I hope all turns out well for you.

    • Of course thoughts and luck with you!

    • silibub

      Positive vibes directed your way!

    • Keneu

All the best! Hope everything turns out to be OK.

    • *hugs* Let us know that everything is okay when you get back tomorrow.

      • Will do! Thanks for that. From everyone, not just Doki.

    • DC

I think your brother sounds like he might be right, good luck for the mornings appointment.

    • Steven Klimecky

I can feel a crack/fissure in mine running from my crown down along my forehead if I press down along the skin. Bit I guess it’s not deep enough to cause a problem – I’ve always wondered what happened in my skull development to cause that.

      • I’ve definitely wondered about my own development to have caused a bump. Quite a prominent at that. Good thing I have a thick hair.

    • Steven Klimecky

Hope everything ends up looking OK. Have you ever had a scan of it before (CT-scan or PET-scan, or MRI)?

      • I have not had it scanned before. We’ll see what the doctor says.

    • I caved in the right side of my forehead as a little kid. I have a hard knot there now. The body is amazingly resilient.

      • Wow! I’ve been talking to folks at work and a lot of them seem to have bumps and dips in their skulls. Very interesting.

        • davefragments

My head isn’t symmetric because they used forceps years ago at birth.

        • have you watched little kids play? It’s amazing the human race survives…

          • Ha! When I think about how many times I’ve fallen off my bike, out of trees, etc. I have to say you’re right about that.

    • I’m also sending you my positive thoughts, Gryphongirl. Good luck! 🙂

    • Best thoughts and good luck!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Oh dear, that is scary! I will be sending you positive thoughts and prayers (if that’s okay with you).

      • That’s wonderful, Sticky! I’m not religious but appreciate people who want to send a little grace my way.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Okay, so before I head home for the afternoon, I have an off-topic question relating to today’s USian mid-term elections.

I’ve seen a number of comments on various blogs about how people’s vote always counts. This apparently relates to various purported dirty trick campaigns to get people to believe that such-and-such a candidate is so far behind that they’re a lost cause, in order to get their supports to not bother voting. My question: Is this a Thing? In the sense that it’s a trusism that is seen to apply broadly across American politics, and any instances where it doesn’t apply are unusual.

Now, I admit that in Australia we have compulsory voting, so the local pollies have an incentive to try to harvest every vote they can get, because those votes *will* be floating around in the system *somewhere*. But the thing is, this results in exactly the opposite phenomenon. When Australian pollies are interviewed about how they think they’re chances are, they always ‘Go for the underdog status’ and claim that they’re behind in the polls (or at the very least, claim that their party private polling says that the numbers are closer than the publicly released media polling is indicating).

I’m thinking that the mechanics of the respective political systems causes the politicians to tailor exactly what type of mendacity they engage in.

    • Steven Klimecky

I’d simply say YES, I think it is, to at least some degree.

    • Terri Sutton

All this political talk is making me depressed. Can I make a joke about the Australian Sex Party like doing it from behind or something?

    • davefragments

I like compulsory voting. It’s a shame we don’t have it here.

    • Sadly, in the U.S. confusion, obfuscation, corporate money, and spin-doctoring rule the day. Politicos here outright lie and there is no consequence. This and the amount of political advertising on all media outlets inundate voters until many are so confused they cannot vote objectively. Throw in some blatant gerrymandering of voting districts and some politicians never see any competition. In fact fully 25% of seats available go uncontested. I find it frustrating to say the least. Compulsory voting will do nothing here without some system in place to guarantee that voters receive accurate and objective information about candidates.

      • Yep.

      • JesBelle

I’m pretty sure the only thing Donald forgot was the rampant fear-mongering.

        • *poke poke* HEY!!!

        • I included that with obfuscation and spin-doctoring but it is worth noting. Thanks for pointing it out.

        • Steven Klimecky

PLENTY of that abounding for sure!

      • Steven Klimecky

        Aye!

    • We may not have compulsory voting, but we have plenty of voting frauds.

  • Steven Klimecky

OK – U.S. Congress now in total Republican control. And so it begins – the doom of the United States and perhaps the descent into another great recession (and all kinds of attempts at repealing healthcare reform, repealing gains in human and gay rights, repealing reforms in climate control and pollution and environmental regulations). Going back to policies of stealing from the poor and weak and needy and sick and disabled and aged to give even more to the wealthy – taking away what little the “have-nots” still might have to give even more to the “already-haves”, a.k.a., the rich. Let the already wealthy get away with paying little or no tax while increasing the relative tax burden to the poor and middle income to obscene levels by comparison.

    • silibub

Sucks, but Obama still has veto power and there will be another Senate election in 2016, so Democrats may regain control by the next presidential term.

    • Steven Klimecky

O.K. – well, I’m done ranting about this for the evening.

      • silibub

I wish I could give you a soothing head massage!

        • Steven Klimecky

Awww – thanks. I think I’m going to go get a nice snifter of Cointreau.

    • davefragments

The USA is a much stronger country than just falling apart.
I saw the assassination of President Kennedy and the USA did not fall apart. I was working the morning that planes hit the World Trade Center and the USA did not fall. Some how, politicians (rotten as they are) rise to the occasion.

So if republican in the House and Senate don’t rule over the next two years. The public will treat them badly.

      • Allow me to commend you for your service to the country. Your experience serving under so many administrations of both parties must be a treasure trove of great stories.

        • davefragments

          somedays I tell.
          Most people find them boring.

          • Adam Black

            wait, what do you do?

          • davefragments

I used to turn coal to oil and then to gasoline. I loved doing research into energy at one of the national laboratories. I’ve also done lots of chemical engineering management. Now that I retired, I write short stories in realms of Sci-Fi and Horror.

          • And they are very very good.

    • stickfigurefairytales

I am very discouraged as well. We are going to have so much work to do to fix things after this.

  • Dude….the Yaoi of the Wild West forum is keeping up with almost 60 currently updating comics… wow, I wasn’t even aware I was reading that many…

    • Haven’t been on there in a while. Need to get back on that horse!

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Oh, me too.

  • Keneu

Er, I’ve been promoting this Change petition in Twitter to get a person I know the urgent treatment he needs. He is a disabled man who was recently operated, but the sanitary personnel didn’t pay him enough attention during the post-operation period and now he suffers infections and haemorraghes. However, the public health system won’t look after him, and won’t give permission for him to go to a specialized centre several hundred of miles away, where he could receive better medical care there.

Would you mind if I share the link here in the comments? If not, it’s totally OK. I just wanted to ask before doing something that could be considered spam.

    • Steven Klimecky

I hope he can get some help. Kinda sounds like the system here in the U.S., sadly to say.

      • Keneu

That’s the system our politicians want to imitate. :/ At least it’s still mostly free, but they want to add more fees. We can count on it to save our lives most of the time, but other treatments that may be needed afterwards, like rehabilitation, postoperatory, psychological or psychiatric aid, and such, vary greatly on quality and avaliability.

        • Guest

          Link to the petition added.

      • Keneu

I added the link of the petition on my previous comment. It’d be of much help if you could sign it.

  • *YAWNS* In for camp … though I might have to skip out again soon if the page isn’t up. Barely made it here and have an early apointment today. Can’t do three days in a row on little sleep (I’m getting old xD).

    • silibub

Hey Danish! Yeah, don’t overtax yourself. I realized in the past year that I can’t pull an all-nighter anymore, so age is catching up with both of us!

      • I can pull an all nighter, but not three nights in a row on a couple hours of sleep .. at least not here in the darker days where I can feel tired all day long >.<

        • silibub

Late fall/winter does that to me, too. Stay strong, buddy!

    • Good morning, Danish!

    • Keneu

      Morning!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Good morning. No problem if you have to go – taking care of yourself is important!

      • Stick. The Nickel Samurai? Seriously??? *shakes head*

        • stickfigurefairytales

          😀

    • Sapfo

well you are old…. very old XD
And you are also 2 minuets before me :O

      • Just you wait. You’ll be ‘my’ number soon too. You only got this one month being a year less 😉

        • Sapfo

Oh you little old lady! I soon join you 😀

    • Morning Danish! I might have to duck out here soon, myself. I am pushing 16 hours of wakey-ness. And I was up ….. too long yesterday with cramps.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Poor Doki! I hope you get some good rest too.

      • Believe it or not Doki I feel your pain. I go through all of the hormonal mess women suffer without having the requisite anatomy. /sigh, being intersex sucks Donkey Kong sometimes.

        • That indeed sucks.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Man, f***ing hormones!

    • Good Morning, Ms Wolf

  • Sapfo

    Good morning campers.
    Hardly alive person here. 😉

    • silibub

Hmm, I have this bucket of ice water just…sitting here. Should I use it?

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Morning Sapfo!

    • Morning Sapfo!

    • P.S. Ono just started a LS.. just so your tired mind doesn’t miss it.

      • Sapfo

I am at the LS right now. She just did a fun little doodle 😉

    • Terri Sutton

Hello Sapfo. Person here who body clock has been f*cked with by the weather.

    • Morning Ms Sapfo.

    • Good morning, Sapfo!

  • stickfigurefairytales

Good news – my submission for that conference I mentioned last time got accepted! 😀

    • silibub

      Awesome, good for you!!

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Thank you! I’m really excited.

    • davefragments

      great. congrats

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Thank you!

    • Woohoo!

      • ADMIRAL! *zen-glomp of happiness*

        • Oof! Hello Donald!

          • I have a snuggy, hot chocolate, and wafers if you’re interested.

          • If there’s also aspirin, I’ll take it! Always up for hot chocolate! 🙂

          • I’m not allowed to take aspirin but I have super-tylenol if that helps.

          • That’ll do. Just need to get rid of the headache.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        So excited! 😀

        • I bet. You should be dancing about!

          • stickfigurefairytales

I’ve presented there for a few years now, but I always have a fantastic time. Plus this is the first time that I won’t be in the Children’s & Young Adult division (the division heads thought my paper would fit better in the Fantasy division, which makes sense to me).

          • Well definitely congrats!

    • That is so great! Congrats!

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Yay! Thank you!

    • purplefoxglove

      That’s great, congratulations 😀

  • :watching all the new people show up as I wrap the blanket closer to myself:

    • Keneu

      Hi there!

      • Hey.

        • Keneu

Mind if I join you on the blanketers group?

          • I’m glad for the company. 🙂

          • Keneu

Nice. *brings two cups of tea*

          • Thanks, :taking a cup:

I have some chicken dim sums? Want one?

          • ME! OOH, ME! PICK ME! Sorry, Donkey from “Shrek” Possessed me but I’m back. I”ve never had dim sum before. I hear it is yummy.

          • They are. I got them from bento over next to Wall street before coming home. 🙂

I got a set of 6 so a few people can get.

          • Keneu

No problem *hands him her dim sum*. Actually, I’ve never had it before either. But we can ask Spooky on the best places to get it.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Blankets are so comfy.

      • Yeah. It’s cold up here in NYC.

  • Not long now… 🙂

    • silibub

Yesss, I was just starting to get tired. Your timing is so excellent.

    • Thanks, Alex!

  • Since it’s voting day in US, don’t forget to vote for TYP too 😉

We need to start threatening people with hitting them with a ruler to get them to do it. Or perhaps threatening people with NOT hitting them with the ruler, if they are so inclined.

“Hey, kid, wanna buy a Rolex?” Sorry, I had to.
