The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 57

415 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 57

Something tells me that The Platinum Priestess doesn’t think The Annihilator’s “second thoughts” are truly sincere…

I just want to give another reminder that I’m going to be a special guest at Nijicon in October in King of Prussia, PA. Other very cool webcomic creators, like Starfighter‘s Hamlet Machine, will be there too. There’s still time to get tickets and hotel rooms, and I’d love to see you there!

Oh, and…

Our sixtieth bonus page in a row! And since I updated the webcomic on Saturday, y’all not only tipped the donation bar below past it’s target once, YOU DID IT TWICE! Woo hoo! That means that, thanks to your generous donations, and in addition to our regular Saturday updates, and bonus pages on Wednesday, September 10th (page 59!), Wednesday, September 17th (page 61!), Wednesday, September 24th (page 63!), Wednesday, October 1st (page 65!), and Wednesday, October 8th (page 67!), there will now be TWO additional bonus pages: page 69 on Wednesday, October 15th and page 71 on Wednesday, October 22nd! You all are ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! I’m truly bowled over by your amazing generosity!

Special thanks go out to long-time supporters Antonia S. (who makes their third generous donation to The Young Protectors!), & Saxon B. (who makes their 110th (!) generous donation to The Young Protectors!) and a warm welcome and grateful bow go out to new supporter Steve V. for their generous donations over the last few days!

Big hugs go out to long-time friends of The Young Protectors Kristin B., Giuseppa M., & Luka A. for their super-generous $25 donations! And this makes Luka’s fourth, Giuseppa’s fifth, & Kristin’s seventh super-generous donations to this comic!

Superhero-strength hugs go out to long-time super-friend Christopher M. for their amazingly generous $60 donation, their twenty-sixth amazingly generous donation to this comic!

ZOMG!, super warm hugs and deeply grateful bows go out to long-time mega-friend Christopher D. for their stunningly generous $100 donation, their ninety-ninth stunningly generous donation to this comic! Thank you so much for your continued, amazing support, Christopher!

And finally, Zo-Ma-BAZINGA!, epically huge hugs and head-to-the-floor bows go out to new mega-friend Eugene M. for their jawdroppingly generous $280 donation! Thank you so, so much for your amazing generosity, Eugene! You are a total ROCK STAR!

Thank you all so much for your generous support!

So! Looks like The Annihilator doesn’t like The Platinum Priestess teasing him about these “feelings.” (Or maybe he just doesn’t like her performing Pilates against the Mystery Glass Box.) Either way, I wonder what’s going to happen next?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

All the pretty colors, especially the green of envy.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Congratulations, Dave!

      • davefragments

Thanks. I am so tired, it’s pathetic…my crazy brother messaged my phone at 4 am yesterday and woke me from a bad night’s half-sleep. I’m going to drop off to sleep in about 10 minutes

        • stickfigurefairytales

Sleep well, and I hope you get a better night’s rest tonight!

          • davefragments

            you too.

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

      Congrats, Dave. 🙂

  • Jakk Anthony Guzman

Still can’t see what’s inside that glass thing.

    • You’ve be pretty sneaky lately. Almost snatched it again today >.>
I think we need to watch the chihuahua more closely, because suddently you’re there ;-p

  • Sapfo

    Oh the drama!

  • O_O He scary..

    It’s all feelings, Darling.

  • Ha! She’s a thespian! Duncan is not amused.

  • silibub

Oh my god, marry me already!

    • LOL.

While I was polishing this whole scene for Adam, I was wondering if you might like it… 😉

      • silibub

I don’t know whether it’s flattering or scary that you think of me at times like those, haha!

Spoiler: if she’s busting out the sass, I’m gonna like it.

  • stickfigurefairytales

Minions in the background: “Yeah, I don’t know. The boss is doing some kinda Vogue thing now.”

  • …is this her way of laughing?

  • Danny

His threatening her at a time like this, no matter how aggravating she is being, is really not a good idea…

    • IamM

Yeah. Or you’ll what Duncan? You need her and the deadline’s coming up. You’ve already betrayed Kyle and you’re on the hook to Lampros.

      • Danny

Exactly! He’s rather short on allies at the moment.

  • davefragments

She’s having so much fun at his expense and Duncan is not liking being mocked that way. What a pack of fun she is.
I think there is an Evil Overlord Rule about mocking your companions and play-acting their concerns to their faces.

  • silibub

I love how none of background minions react to this.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Minions: “We’re not getting involved.”

      • silibub

“Bob, do you think we should say someth–”

“NO. No. You saw what she did to Fred last time.”

        • Jac

“She turned him into a newt, remember?”

          “… He got better…”

          • Danny

This comment thread got better too!

  • Sapfo

    I find this very amusing
    Duncan No! (≖͞_≖̥)

  • davefragments

LOOK at all the fancy ornaments on the stargaze circle thingie the minions were building! ! !

    • stickfigurefairytales

That was actually all just one guy’s doing. He’s big into arts and crafts.

      • Irishyankee

        He has an Esty store

  • Jakk Anthony Guzman

That glass thing is really big!

  • Sapfo

Why is that glass not see through!
    Presses nose agains glass
Hello! Is there anyone in there?

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

it looks big enough to hold Laampros.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Heeeeeeeeeey! Now there’s an idea…

        • Saxon_Brenton

Annihilator and the Priestess successfully perform the ceremony, and capture Laampros.
Young Protectors turn up, release righteous mayhem, smash box and free Laampros.
Annihilator and the Priestess: “Darn meddling kids!”
          Young Protectors: “Oops.”

How many times have I told you kids not to play ball at the arcane ceremony site! NOW THE DEMONS ARE FREE and Europe is coming out of YOUR allowance!

      • Sapfo

        It´s a trap!

    • Maybe it isn’t really glass, just a huge piece of ice?

      • stickfigurefairytales

Oh no, maybe Captain America’s trapped inside!

        • silibub

          Capsicle! Noooo!

          • YangYueLan

This whole conversation! I almost had an asthma attack from laughing!

        • Sapfo

          Bucky where are you!

      • IamM

        For post-Hell cocktails?

    • CH

So long as it’s not the 456 bring ’em on.

    • TwilightDreamer

Tap on the glass, maybe someone (or something) will tap back XP

  • CH

oh my, somebody’s a touch upset. The question becomes is the anger because she’s wrong or because she’s right?

    • Jac

Either way, I’m sure she’s not the least bit threatened by him.

      • CH

Well no, the woman planning to double cross a powerful hellion probably isn’t afraid of much. But for plot reason it’s probably relevant to us.

  • The minion at the top looks like he’s trying to be invisible.

    • You know, I think they might all have that look of “look like we are too busy to pay attention, look like we are too busy to pay attention.” *nervous figiting by minions* ….it is always rough on the kids when the parents fight..

  • SofiaT

    I feel like punching her.
And I think Duncan shares my feelings.

    • silibub

This is way more over the top than I was expecting. Kind of sad that she finds the situation so hilarious.

      • I think it goes with the notion that she truly doesn’t understand the softer emotions of us puny mortals.

        • silibub

Probably. Like what is she doing — is she really so dismissive of Duncan’s feelings that she’ll heedlessly twist the knife, or was part of her thinking (hoping?) he would laugh along? “What, me? Fall for that boy? Hysterical! Make some room against that ominous glass case so I can pose dramatically with you!”

          • I do think she would expect the latter. I could see from her point of view the ridiculousness of Duncan actually having gone this far, having used Kyle, and then feeling guilty. Guilty? What for? Surely ’tis a jest.

          • SofiaT

Maybe she was giving him an “out”?
…Nah. She wouldn’t be so kind.

          • silibub

She might or might not — it depends on whether she prioritizes smoothing this over so they can work together long enough to pull off the ritual over testing the extent of his loyalties. If she’s giving him an out and he had taken it, okay, they could have gone about their business with only subsurface tension — but he’s not letting her control the conversation, and I think how she reacts to that will be very important.

        • Jakk Anthony Guzman

Don’t underestimate Sircea. It could all be a plan of hers to see how Duncan reacts, and get the info she’s after. And most likely she has no empathy for others too.

          • I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have any empathy.

          • Sapfo

Did she loss it? Where did she last see it? Oh we better help her find it again.

          • silibub

Damn empathy, that stuff is so slippery.

          • I don’t know if she ever had it to begin with. And if she did, I’d feel safe betting that she stole it.

    • silibub

And eh, after a little more processing, I agree with the idea that she’s trying to be punch-able on purpose to see Duncan’s response. How easily would he turn on her? What’s at the root of his doubts — Kyle, something to do with her (I know, right, unthinkable), or something else? It’s…a strategy, but mostly I think these two could use some counseling.

  • Sapfo

NO IT IS NOT PP WHO IS THE TEASE! It is you Alex Woolfson!
Both you and dear Lady Hamlet at the same place! You are breaking my fangirl heart. 。゜(`Д´)゜。

I hope you have alot of fun, and play well with all the great people going.

    • We’d love to have you there… 🙂

      • Sapfo

Oh, you are to kind. That much good in one place. I have a feeling the your kindness and Hamlets goodness might result in the end of the world.

        • That’s part of the reason we need you there. The fate of the world depends on it!

          • silibub

…You need Sapfo’s unbridled evil to counteract your and Hamlet’s combined forces of goodness?

          • Sapfo

I just think that Alex called me evil.
Oh goodness you are wonderfull XD

          • But I thought I was the evil one!!

          • Sapfo

I just lead you to belive that.
            *pet Doki like a cat*

          • …..

          • LOL .. I’m cackling.

    • Saxon_Brenton

[innocent face] You’re only just noticing that Alex is teasing now?
I’m sure that the imagery in the last page was carefully crafted to punch the buttons of the Redilator shippers and Team Pitchfork simultaneously.
But, yeah, any page where the Priestess plays the ham while the Annihilator gets dangerously pouty is not a page included for exposition and info dumping.

  • DC

Some of those white things in the stargate circle thing look like they have ears and horns. Is that where the sacrificial goats ended up? Or maybe I just need glasses 🙂

  • For some reason that last panel channels Queen Victoria for me: We are not amused.

Of course that leads me to the Queen of Hearts: Off with her head!

  • Jen Roberts

PP vs. Anni? How much do front row seats for that cost? I have a husband and a couple cats I can mortgage…

    • purplefoxglove

I’m not sure if I would want to have front row seats for THAT one…might be a little…too close to the action?

  • Okay, Platinum Priestess nailed it. She is very quickly becoming my favorite character.

  • Starfighter updated – which I can say now that my comments work again. So I did get myself a V this morning 😉 .. a rare one.

And now I can go back to comment here too. I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO PUT MY FOCUS D:

    • I actually got the 2nd post, on SF so I am happy with that. ^_^

  • Mary Klemzak

Uh dude I doubt you can take her. Wish you could. But she’s like a billion years old. I doubt am ass whopping would be a good thing for you to do. Good luck tho.

    • BurstThrough

She’s at the very least very intimidating being a living legend and all…

  • silibub

I’m sorry, I know there’s a lot of interesting emotional stuff going on here, and that things are coming to a head with Sircea dramatizing right over the line and Duncan barely reining in his anger, but that fourth panel is just too funny. Strike a pose!

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

I think she’s doing it on purpose to see how he reacts.

      • silibub

Almost definitely. I guess she’s still trying to suss out just how serious his moral crisis is, and how deeply his attachment to Kyle runs. Talk about pushing buttons, though, damn.

        • Maus Merryjest

She’s channeling some Lauren Bacall, I see!

  • YangYueLan

Ok, she is officially really scary. That third panel may give me nightmares.

    • silibub

That is a pretty chilling expression. Shark-like, almost — she’s hamming it up but the laughter isn’t in her eyes, you know? I think she’s being very calculating here, and it might not be as obvious to Duncan because from his angle he can’t get the straight-on perspective of her expression that we as readers have.

  • David Welbourn

Has Sircea ever considered a career on stage or screen? I’m sure she could get lots of worshipping fans that way and skip that whole silly rule-the-world nonsense.

  • And SHE’s supposed to be the sane one…

She doesn’t seem to get the real emotions, probably because her own is a bit messed up after 6000 years. She’d be brillant on a stage though..which I guess is what the minions are building.

    • Sapfo

She is having to much fun to be a vulcan.

      • Maus Merryjest

Ok, she’s a Romulan! That explains the pointy tiara!

  • silibub

Also interesting to note that she didn’t even give him time to respond. Again: steamrolling. She’s not straight-out calling him an idiot for caring about Kyle, but her mockery makes it pretty clear what she thinks of that possibility. So now if Duncan owns up to it, he’ll have to face further belittlement, and either grit his teeth through it (which would in a way be a capitulation and reinforce her sense of authority over him) or react angrily and belie how deep his feelings are. I think he’s trying to establish a sort of middle ground; by telling her to watch her tone with him, he’s demanding that she treat him with respect, not necessarily threatening her. In that case, the way she reacts to his insistence that they relate to each other as equals should be revealing. These are some insane-level mind games — it makes you wonder how they ever get anything done.

    • BurstThrough

Yeah she could be playing a variety of different mind games but Duncan apparently chose that response to kill any attempt of her succeeding in controling him by using Kyle(either by mentioning or kidnapping) to achieve certain reactions in the future(although if she ever wants him to feel anger she can mention him in the future).
Circe never looked like the kind to like treating someone as an equal she liked turning people into animals after all…

  • TwilightDreamer

    O_O………*flees from Anni’s angry face!*
XD oh man he really is scary when angry….but then again, that moment just took PP from being cold to being a down right ******!…..wasn’t expecting her to be mean in that kind of manner….sooo mature for a 6000 year old 😛 lol.
Ok, so the mystery of the glass case has been going since the focus turned to the villainous pair, but now even I really really want to know what’s inside! XD

  • Acintyabedhabedhadasa

Note to Duncan: Now that you, a genius supervillain, seem to be re-evaluating what Sircea has told you and/or contemplating turning against her, should you really be signalling all this with your remarks and tone of voice? Come on–give us a cackle.

  • Richard Grant Muir

Oh snap! Someone struck a nerve! 😛

  • Oh gods, I love Anni. Have I expressed how much I love him? No? I LOVE HIM.

  • Dennis Grace

    Ruh-roh. Someone struck a nerve.

You know, there something a wee bit hypocritical about accusing anyone else of drama when you’re wearing a titanium bikini and sporting a platinum bison on your forehead.

    • december

    • IamM

This old thing? It’s laundry day.

  • Monica

Ahhh Anni!! that last panel is so strong!! I would not say no if he come and kidnapped me away somewhere *happy sigh*

  • Adam & Veronica, the level of artistry capturing Sircea’s poses and emotional attitudes is just crazy good. The level of “tragical” teasing… both honestly cruel and ridiculous at the same time is so hard to pull off. The levels of her ‘playing’ with Duncan are just superbly visualized, and the angling and posing beautifully done. The maraschino cherry that is Duncan’s final look is just the perfect close on this page. Thank you for such great work.

Alex, stunning ironic overlay of her teasing him (whatever she really believes) for ‘having feelings’. Is it that ‘feelings’ are WEAK because they’re human? Or is it that they’re weak and UNMANLY?

It is such a wonderful comparison about teasing someone for being gay. Say no, and it stops the game, but you lose and they force you to submit and admit to a lie. Say yes, and the game continues and you lose, at least in the immediate, as the attack continues and you are punished (in this case) for being weak and having feelings for your sex.

Obviously Sircea knows Duncan orientation, but the game itself is just as hateful a mirror. Just as painful. Winning this type of game is only a long term thing, because it has to do with being strong unto yourself, regardless of the opinions of others. So just as in admitting to ‘gay’, here he’s admitting to possessing ’emotion’ and its implied weakness. Either way a long-term relationship changes forever and, at the very least, he watches someone he called ‘darling’, a page ago, work very hard to hurt him… right where he lives. THAT is cruel (or maybe to her it isn’t – arg). Sircea is most definitely pulling ahead in the villain sweepstakes on this page.

Alex, I’m not sure if all this is just me laying ‘gayness’ over the top of your ideas or if it’s something you had considered, but regardless, this is a deft and clever page. A worthy follow up to the beauty of the last one. These are both such wonderfully interesting layered and complex characters. Be proud.

Finally given the character you’ve developed Duncan to be, I like and buy that he’s not going to play the right or wrong game with Sircea. He is way too experienced and crafty to be so engaged. Rather he plays the disrespect me at your peril game. I wouldn’t let Sircea scent weakness either. Both the dialog and Duncan’s expression in that last panel say it so perfectly. Wonderful stuff.

Finally there is a real pain in Duncan’s situation. Regardless of what Duncan feels in this moment, he cannot turn back time and undo what he did to Kyle.

What is done is done forever.

Thank you Alex, Adam and Veronica for another exciting, emotional and first class page.

One of my favorite songs ever… is about the very idea of longing for just a few hopeless, impossible minutes as a ‘do-over’. A chance to turn back time and unsay/undo something, anything. The first time I heard this song I cried. At this moment it makes me think of Duncan in this impossible moment…

Missy Higgins (sings) — If I Could Just Start Today Again
    by Paul Kelly

All the kings and queens in the Bible
They could not turn back time
So what chance have I of a miracle
    In this life of mine?

    I only want one day
To unsay the things I said
    Undo the thing I did
    Twenty four little hours

Oh, God, please wipe them all away
And I promise I will change
If I could start today again

I know I’m not the milk and honey kind
    Today I proved it true
When the red mist falls around my eyes
I know not what I do

    Please give me back today
And I won’t say the things I said
Or do that thing I did
    Every minute, every hour

    The replay’s just the same
And I can’t stand the shame
Oh, let me start today again

    I only want one day
    One lousy day, that’s all
Of every day that’s been before
    Since time began

I know my prayer’s in vain
But for a second I’ll pretend
That I can start today again

    • Those lyrics are perfect for this.

    • Sapfo

      A comment worthy for thoughts.
      Well done Chris.

    • Thank you, Chris, for another really thoughtful, insightful reaction! Very cool. 🙂

  • karmakat

are we supposed to clap for her or can we just skip to slapping her right away?

    • Denise Cruz

I’d rather the slapping part right away, please! *v*

      • karmakat

agreed…just not sure when i would stop at this point.

        • Denise Cruz

Exactly! I’ve promised Alex that I’d stop when she’d stopped breathing… It’s the best deal I can offer! lol

          • karmakat

is that bad that i don’t want to stop until even her own mom wouldn’t recognize her? hehe

          • Denise Cruz

Well… I don’t know if it’s bad, but it certainly makes me a fan of yours! xD

          • karmakat

.bows. hehe pleasure to do it sincerely hehe

  • E-Carrion

And with that grin in panels 3 and 4, Platinum Priestess eekes ahead as my favourite character.

  • I find Sircea’s teasing on this page pretty ironic. It’s like she looks at her own reactions to things and projects it on Duncan and has fun with it – a fun where there’s no fun to have, unless you’re in the sociapath group.

Either that and/or she’s actually jealous and diminish Duncan’s emotions is order to hide her own. It probably comes down to wether or not Duncan is one she might have developed emotions towards, only to know they aren’t returned in the same way. Other possibility is her pride.

It’s strange. I keep switching between getting the vibe that they’ve known each other for many years, to feeling like they’ve known OF each other for a long time but only found together in a (sometimes uneasy) truce/partnership years ago – for the ‘greater purpose’.
Maybe it’s because Duncan happens to possess the powers Sircea needs with her own to make this long term plan happen – and at least a long step of the way, the same ruthlessness.

Who’d have thought that ‘a boy’ would be what it took to get in between her and Duncan, and the plans they/she’s had for years. It must be quite baffling to her, and must feel like an unsult since Duncan is turning towards someone so ..’weak’.

Emotional connection to someone? “Baah, petty emotions.. someone she surely can’t be weakened by herself. Right?”

    • joncarllewis

could there be jealousy on her part?

      • I think it’s a form of jealousy that comes from her pride and arrogance. How dare Duncan possibly prefer someone else, someone weaker, over her.

        • Steven K.

Well, if one were looking for an intimate physical relationship with someone (let’s say for the PURPOSE of getting whatever pleasure or comfort one does out of such things [though not saying this was the primary motivation in the Anni with Kyle situation – he had different primary motives), and if one were gay, then it would be natural that he would prefer the company of a another male, and thus should not be surprising to her.

          • If it’s related to pride, I didn’t necessarily mean in a relationship connection, but just as much in a partnership (unless Duncan is bi, and that option is still there).
After years of planning and working together, a ‘simple’ BOY and his friend (Kyle) have Duncan question her. He doesn’t necessarily see her way as the only possible option anymore. She continues calling Kyle ‘boy’. It’s a way to dismiss him as less important. He was a piece of a puzzle to her.. and now Duncan is figurative (so far) leaving her side for that little pawn. Simply not exceptable, so it must be laughed at and diminished. She’s #1. None of those boys matter, and they shouldn’t matter to Duncan either – and yet he/they do.

          • Steven K.

Yeah – that makes sense. At least we can hope that he/they could matter to him.

  • LL

Oh..this…this is not going to go over well with PP.

  • Irishyankee

“I’m Ready for my Close-Up, Mr. De Mille”

  • fujoshifanatic

Is it wrong to say that Sircea’s cruelty would be quite funny if she weren’t going for Anni’s jugular? Maybe 6,000 years of watching countless humans (one or two of which she might have formed attachments to) live and die in the blink of an eye (to her) has blunted her ability to have human feelings at all, let alone empathize with Anni’s dilemma. Methinks this will come back to bite her quite painfully in the near future.

    • BurstThrough

It’s not wrong. Her dramatics are funny but I find it funny cause she’s so callous not that Duncan’s pain is entertaining(it’s just not).I find Maleficent(taunting prince Phillip) funny even though I wouldn’t quite mind if she died afterwards wich is the same way I feel about Circe.
      Agreed on the bitting.

  • EldrinSMP

OK, my evil laugh slipped out with this one (have to be careful, it scares people). Anni is NOT happy. This is going to be fun to watch.

  • purplefoxglove

Somehow, I feel as if Duncan’s warning in the last panel would be far more frightening if he weren’t sitting on a wooden box like…I dunno…a pouting toddler?
*runs off to hide from enraged Supervillain*

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

He didn’t remind me of a toddler sitting there on the box, more like Forrest Gump–minus the box of chocolates.

    • Niggle

lol I had a feeling he stood up to deliver that line. His posture in the fourth panel kind of hints at it. But it’s much funnier imagining him still sitting down.

  • Len Grey

I really adore The Platinum Priestess. She’s beautiful, she’s handsome, she’s wise and powerful enough to be The Annihilator’s partner (in crime/possible world saving). But that look in her eyes these last few pages; devilish, teasing, giddy, joy, astonishment. She’s acting like Spooky did to cheer up Kyle, but in another sense. Feels like she’s trying to get Ani up to game. Teasing him like a wiser older sister to draw him back to focus on the situation at hand…. or I could be imposing too much thought on this and she actually is pretty insane for having magic, just happens to conceal it much better and just has these random bouts of hysteria.. to each their own.

    • AliceVenturi

I’m not sure I agree. PP’s little show seems to me to have a streak of just plain mean to it. Duncan is an ally, sure, but it’s pretty clear to me that Sircea sees herself as the one in charge. She’s pretty ego-centric, & I think maybe other peoples’ feelings just aren’t as important to her as her own are. I think maybe she really is as disdainful of Duncan’s doubts – and feelings! – as her words indicate. I don’t see this as light-hearted attempt to cheer Duncan up; I think it’s more a super-villainess version of tough love, with a chewy center of “I’m better than you, because I’d never let something like this get in my way.” Many of the best villains have at least a touch of megalomania and narcissism in their psychological make-up.

I think Sircea’s ultimate goal – repairing the world walls – is probably a good & necessary thing. But it doesn’t mean she has her head or her heart screwed on right. Or that she’s entirely sane. Or that she is in any way “nice”. I think she is, at best, a very chancey ally, one that Duncan needs to never turn his back on, once he has finished doing whatever Sircea needs him for.

  • Duncan in the last panel here goes so well as a match to Sircea’s back on page 53 of this chapter. They both have that snarly disdain down to perfection. Impact will be great when reading this is print.

So much alike and still so different. It’s starting to be a question of how much they’ll screw up between then and maybe towards Laampros, before the YP team will even show up.

  • Pikinanou

And the Oscar for Best Actress goes to… Sircea!

    • Ooookay… but when she thanks her mom, do you think mom will still alive, so the camera can find her 6,000+++ year old self in the studio audience?

      • john Johnson

If momma is anything like her daughter the princess probably has het safely locked away somewhere.

      • Steven K.

I’d think her mother would be similar to Grendel’s mother.

    • SofiaT

Meh. You need to be able to understand emotions to be a good actor.
Sircea is a drama queen and a diva, but I doubt she’ll win any Oscars anytime soon.

      • Dave Nguyen

I mean, look at Leonardo DiCaprio. He still has never won one.

        • Steven K.

And how popular Tom Cruise has always been, though he can’t really act all that well either – just sort of plays various versions of what he thinks as himself.

      • Pikinanou

Well, it depends If she promised immortality to the judges…

  • DarkFeanix21

And this is why the Platinum Priestess is one of my favourites in this comic. I cracked up at her display.

  • Niggle

Bwuahaha. This page made me laugh. Despite the second thoughts that PP thinks insincere, my sympathy for Duncan is kinda low right now, so him being mocked amused me very much. 🙂

And Duncan, why so serious? You’re only opening up hell on earth, no big deal. ;P

  • Nate

The snark! The wonderful, horrible snark! 😀

  • john Johnson

Anti-heroes don’t really get along with either side very well, but I suspect that the falling out will come after the wall is breached and the lady trades her moon silver garb for something more dark of the moon.

  • Jose O. Gonzalez Lopez

I think that someone wants to see what their insides look like on the outside.

  • WarGoddess

Hahahahaha he didn’t deny it!!!!! Damn, I’d be laughing so hard if I were there watching her do this. This is hilarious!!!! 😀

    • Why so serious? XD

I’d be laughing too, was not expecting that to happen.

  • baranchi

I love Sircea so much right now.

  • Codeless Emerald

Can I just say how much I love PP? I hope she sticks around.

  • Dakejev

Okay, changing my assessment based on new evidence; PP is totally Chaotic Evil, psychopathy and all. Maybe living 6000+ years makes you a bit uncaring of your fellow beings, but I think she’s been like that from the start.

Duncan in the last panel is why I love antiheroes – you can get away with threatening your allies. (Also, he’s still damn hot.)

    • Jakk Anthony Guzman

On the other hand, it could all be an act on her part to make him loose control and get angry enough that he will reveal his true feelings on the matter. That could be her real intention.

      • Dakejev

Whether that’s her goal or not, I think she’s making him angry on purpose, to decide on the equivalent of “fuck this conversation, let’s just get this over and done with!”

  • timemonkey

Still hoping they attack each other. Prefferably kill each other.

  • grimsister21

To be fair, If on of *my* friends was a super villain, I would also use every opportunity I’d get to mock them

    • Terri Sutton

So true for me as well. If they can’t handle me being a wise-arse then how are they going to handle their arch-nemesis being lippy.

  • davefragments

She has all the emotional maturity of a tweenie girl fighting over Edward or Jacob (and I had to look that up, I’ll tell you. It ain’t a fact I keep in my head)
Or the current hysteria over Justin Beiber arrests and misbehaviors
OR how about the SHOCK at the knowledge that congressMEN act like sexist pigs anti congressWOMEN with word like “porky” and “chubby” . . .
What do we want more in a super villain who is going to open the portals of HELL and let the demons in that a good episode of savagely silly and stupid mockery for her (was never really but we thought might have been) Man.
This isn’t Peggy Lee singing “Your give me fever” but Cyndi Lauper singing “girls just want to have fun” on the day Laampros RISES FROM HELL to conquer the world.
This is like DUCK SOUP is real history. (Horsefeathers is better.)
Or perhaps THE ONION is the new NYTimes.
What a grand twist of fun proportion. TYP entire squad has a greater emotional range the the PP.
Now that’s true horror, true scary.
and I think I’ll just quietly giggle until Saturday or Sunday.
GUESS what my new wallpaper is? The Daleks have lost their place in my heart and on my computer.

    • Steven K.

I would have had to look that up as well – I only know them in my mind as (broody) vampire-boy and (hot, hunky) werewolf-boy.

    • Steven K.

And I MUCH prefer Heinrich Ignatz Franz von Biber over Justin Bieber.

  • Terri Sutton

I thought we were suppose to summon a Prince of Hell to Earth tonight not audition for the latest Stephenie Meyer movie adaptation.

    • Steven K.

I don’t know who Stephenie Meyer is (showing my age and interests – or lack of certain interests?), but I’ll agree with you anyway on that.

      • Terri Sutton

Author of Twilight. I haven’t read the books or watched the movies but I thought it was a nice cheap shot.

        • Steven K.

          Ohhhhhhhh – NOW I understand! – LOL

  • Phyre Storm

Well, now he’s put his foot in it.

Next page: “Are you…actually THREATENING me? AHAHAHAHAHAHA you die now.”

    • flame821

Nah, she must need him for something or she wouldn’t have bothered with him in the first place. Now once he fills his role, all bets are off, but she’s not immortal anymore either so maybe she’ll play it safe until she is. She strikes me as the ‘revenge best served cold’ type anyway.

  • Cman65

I said love, I said pet, I said love never piss-off an old QUEEN!!!!!!!!!

  • Denise Cruz

Alex… PLEASE, let me twist her neck! Please! Just until she stops breathing… I promise you I’ll stop, then! Pleeeease!
Ok! Anni deserves it. Of course he does! But… she’s SO obnoxious!
I’m totally dreaming about that huge glass box falling over her and smashing her annoying little head for everywhere. *.* (Can’t write anymore! On the zone! )

  • Tahir Raines

My love for the Platinum Priestess continues to grow.

  • Dark_Otter

Um, Sircy… you might wanna NOT do that… ’cause Duncan’s already on the fence about this operation… and you’re about to push him right off it.

Of course, she’s acting this way because she thinks it’s all going to moot soon… and that if Duncan does double-cross her, she knows how to control for it. Heh. We’ll see about that.

  • Heh

    *gets some popcorn*

    Dang, this gonna be gud.

    • LimpBiskit

      yep, that it is 😀

  • Lillihandra

Bahahaha! I’ve totally done stuff like that to my overdramatic friends before. They hate it, but that only makes it funnier.

  • Tuolu

I fear PP is going to die soon, and that saddens me because she is FANTASTIC.

    • Frater Gymnos

Noooooooo! They can’t kill her! Maybe imprison her in a block of ice… that would be appropriate.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

He may not be strong enough to avoid being burned by Kyle…..but if he gets mad enough…..I think he could be very dangerous.

  • Keneu

When I saw the first and second pannel, I thought I got the wrong page for a moment. @_@ I was sure she was going to be more subtle, not outright mock him and call him hypocrite.

I love pannels 3, 4 and 5, but if any of them gave me those looks I’d run for the hills. Well, okay, maybe I’d take a peek at Sircea posing against the glass before running away.

  • AeeDee

I -know- this woman is a terrifying and calculating villain that I ought to be afraid of, but gosh, I love her.

  • bronakopdin

Oh damn, I hate how she’s making fun of him just because he’s actually HUMAN and has FEELINGS and SECOND THOUGHTS

    damn her….

I mean, this is exactly what I wanted Anni to feel: miserable! To atone for what he did to Kyle. And he does! It would be too much to say we’re clean already but I must admit I’m on the way to satisfaction 😀

    • Steven K.

I’m not sure we know QUITE yet that he feels that way. We’ll see what he says, if anything, on the following pages relating to that. One can hope he has more humanity left than the Priestess.

      • bronakopdin

true, I sure DO hope so

but reading his face and anger he sure feels SOMETHING

  • BurstThrough

She’s hilarious in her callous mockery!!

I try to wonder what the fight would be like!
    Ok taking bets!!
There on the left at over 6 feet of butch UK born man of steel! The man that turned the name Duncan infamous!!

    Theeeeeeee Annihilator!!!!!

There on the right the literally legendary animal transforming sorceress!!! Daughter of Helios the sun god and ruler of the island of Aeaea!!!!!

Circe(Sircea to friends) The Platinum Priestesss!!!!

    Epic fight on the way.

    • HAAAA! I’m getting READDDDDY to rumble!

    • Steven K.

I used to love reading Baba Yaga tales as a kid.

  • Anna Calloway

Wow! So….even though she’s totally evil I’m slowly falling in love with her character. LOL

  • Shinashi

Aw, this is just ol’ siblings teasing each other. XD

  • Adam Irving

What a great place for faces! No really, I think the artists nailed the expressions for both villains. Just great stuff. The accompanying gestures convey a lot too. Masterfully done.

  • Derkins

Aand he snaps out of it! Would be hilarious to see the confusion on the faces of the young protectors if they were to arrive on the scene just to find Anni and PP in a round of fisticuffs. :3

  • justkeepondriving

Ooooooooohhhhhhh Duncan darling, is that a threat?

  • davefragments

    I can’t wait until tonight

  • Oh Duncan. Now don’t spoil a good evening with just threatening. :}

  • Klaus

I read more in English than in my native language, but one thing I usually avoid reading in English is anything about Greece. English mangles Greek names horribly. The worst offence of many is substituting c for k, and then pronouncing it s. I would never have associated Sircea with Kirke from the Odyssey. The names do not seem similar to me.

    • SofiaT

Same. I was very surprised when people associated the two (and maybe that’s what Alex had in mind from the start), but first time I heard it I went “wuuuuuut??”

Not to mention that I’m starting to realise Circe’s reputation is much worse in western minds for some reason than it ever was in Greek mythology. That took me by surprise too.

      • Interesting. In English, what would be the phonetic pronunciation of what Circe’s sounds like in Greek? Does it have a hard K sound up front?

        • SofiaT

It would be pronounced Kérke. (With both “e’s” sounding like evening.

          • Thank you. 🙂 Is it a bit like how we would pronounce the first part of Kierkegaard?

          • SofiaT

Exactly! The first e is a bit longer too.

          • Klaus

Kirke is, in addidtion to being a name in the Odyssey, the Danish word for church. This is of course a coincidence. That the name Kierkegaard means church yard is not.The modern spelling is kirkegård. Phonetic spelling in English: keerkegore.

    • Saxon_Brenton

My own mythological knowledge is… um… “broad but shallow”, so I hadn’t even realised this was an issue. Criminies but I love the comments page of this webcomic.

    • Saxon_Brenton

My own mythological knowledge is… um… “broad but shallow”, so I hadn’t even realised this was an issue. Criminies but I love the comments page of this webcomic.

    • silibub

Right, I took Greek a few years after reading Homer in translation, and some of the names really threw me when I finally had to read and pronounce them the proper way. Circe/Kirke is a prime example. Fortunately my professor was a stickler and didn’t let us favor English (mis)pronunciations.

      • SofiaT

Hercules is another (although the Romans are to blame for that). His original name is Heracles = Hera’s strength = because he got his legendary strength by drinking Hera’s milk as a baby, when Zeus secretly had him nurse his wife while she was sleeping. (When she woke up, startled to find her husband’s illegitimate son attached to her breast, she shoved the child away and the milk that splattered formed the Milky Way).

…Sorry, I digressed there. But the point is, “Heracles” means something, “Hercules” means nothing. Yet that’s the name that stuck.

        • silibub

          It’s pretty frustrating, actually.

(Side note: I’m always amazed by how much of a douchelord Zeus is.)

          • SofiaT

Yep, he is. And he was created as what the perfect male was like in the minds of the ancients, so that’s a good indicator of what their society and mentality was like too.

            My ancestors were douchebags. :0/

          • Your ancestors were so not alone. Zeus and the Greeks had many similar comrades world-wide… to this very day.

It’s not even about race and color anymore. It’s all about the “haves” and “have nots”. Clearly Sircea and Duncan were/are not operating in a vacuum. I’m sure we can find just as many similar examples from every part of the globe. 🙁

          • Steven K.

Does that mean that they thought that the “perfect male” is attracted to both females and other males? It would seem that a number of gods and goddesses had bisexual tendencies (some seemed to enjoy some same-sex trysts “on the side” at least). Or would that be too simplistic an interpretation?

          • SofiaT

            Too simplistic.

The relationship of the ancient Greeks with homo-eroticism is a very complicated love/hate one. It’s more based in misogyny and power plays than anything else and it has been vastly misinterpreted in modern times because it’s being seen under a modern lens that simply didn’t exist back then.

Suffice it to say, that if I was a member of the LGBTI community and looking for allies, I would steer clear of Ancient Greece.

      • SofiaT

Talking of mispronunciations, I laugh my ass off when I hear someone say “hoi polloi” (which, granted, is not often).

        • davefragments

I only hear that in Gilbert and Sullivan – – I guess that is something to be thankful for.

        • silibub

          Do people say “hoy puh-LOY”?

          • SofiaT

First time I heard it I had no idea what they were trying to say. Had to see it written down and i understood that it’s a badly pronounced transliteration of “é polé” from the context.

          • silibub

            *wince-hiss* Yikes.

          • silibub

Quick question, though — I know there are some differences in pronunciation between ancient and modern Greek, so would (aspirated) [oi] be pronounced “hoy” in ancient Greek but “e” in modern? Just trying to think of why anyone says it the clunky way.

          • SofiaT

It would sound the same (except that the “h” indicates accent more than an actual letter, a heavy “e”, if you’d like, that is no longer pronounced like that -I’m not a linguist so that’s the best I can explain it.)

There are 5 “e’s” in the Greek alphabet, two of which are what we call “diphthongs”=sounds derived by the use of two letters instead of one.

So we have “heta”, “iota”, “ypsilon”, “omikron-iota” and “epsilon-iota”= η, ι, υ, οι, ει. They’re all e’s, although some may sound heavier or longer than others, depending on where you find them in the word and what letter follows.

          • silibub

            I think I follow — thanks!

          • davefragments

I think that they mistranslated it, too.
As I read the meanings, it is directly “the many” or “the masses” however, the words “hoi polloi” in G&S are taken to mean in a slightly derogatory and humorous tone: “the common folk” or “the rabble” in a silly class-oriented and discriminatory way that only G&S can to when they are in full flowery satire.

          • SofiaT

It was taken from Pericles’ “Epitaph” where he refers to the people of Athens (“the many”), and obviously in a positive way, as Athens was a democracy.

Now it’s used in a derogatory way, “the unwashed masses”. But not sure if Byron is to blame for that or later uses of the phrase by others.

          • davefragments

Thucydides! I will read it all tomorrow.

          • SofiaT

Funny piece of trivia: the modern Greek word “malakas” (douchebag, jerk or asshole) is taken from the Epitaph too, although the meaning is different there.

          • davefragments

My eyeballs just popped out of my head at that little fact.

          • SofiaT

As you can imagine, when we did Thucydides at school, the class was full of snickering 15-year-olds.
And the teacher was -unsuccessfully- trying to pretend that she didn’t think it was funny either.

          • silibub

I’ve never seen it used in a derogatory manner in Greek, so I guess it was either misconstrued or adapted to suit the aristocratic perception of the masses.

          • Steven K.

Is there an “epsilon” on-it’s-own that would be another “e” sound?

          • SofiaT

Epsilon is an “e” as in “ever sound.
            Completely different from epsilon-iota.

          • SofiaT

I think when it was first used in English in the 19th century, it was used by people with classical education (as Dave says above: Byron). They transliterated letter for letter, but knew to pronounce it the right way.
When later others copied them, I assume that they thought it was written like that because it was meant to be pronounced like that in English too. Because they didn’t speak Greek and the written word of Byron was all they had to go by, they butchered it.

            So, ignorance really.

          • Steven K.

I’d say that is a rather good assessment.

          • Steven K.

Well, a lot of our mispronunciation of Chinese in English/American society is from badly pronounced (and misunderstood) Wade-Giles transliteration of the language. That is what gave us the pronunciation of “Pee-king” (spelled as Peking), rather than the closer (but still not exact) pronunciation of “Bay-jing” (spelled as Beijing). The actual transliteration (I think – it’s been awhile) is P’ek’ing – “P” with the diacritical mark ‘ is supposed to be pronounced half-way between a “P” and a “B”, while the “k” with the diacritical mark should be pronounced somewhere between a soft “ch” and a “j”. Any sinologists feel free to correct me on this. I think there are a number of other examples of that type in spoken English today.

          • Klaus

I think that actually the translitteration has a p, not a p’. Giles-Wade uses the plosives for the same value as they had in classical Rome. The Romans did not have asprated plosives, so the difference beween p and b is only that b is voiced and p is not. It is the same for k/g and t/d. P represents an unaspirated, unvoiced plosive, a sound not used in English. P’ represents an aspirated plosive, that is the English p. Chinese does not have voiced plosives, so Giles-Wade does not use b, d, g at all.

My native Danish also has no voiced plosives, so Pinying seems very natural to me. At least when it comes to plosives. P, t, k and b, d, g all are pronounced as in Danish. The first three are also pronounced that way in English, the last three represents sounds not used in Enghlish.

Classical Greek had all three sets of plosives. When the Romans needed to write the aspirated plosives in Greek words, they represented the aspiration as an h. So Latin ph, th, kh represents the same sounds as Giles-Wade p’, t’, k’.

The pronounciation of Greek has changed a lot over time. When the Romans decided on the spelling of Greek words, this is how the plosives were pronounced:

Pi (p), tau (t), kappa (k): unaspirated and unvoiced. Not used in English. Like Danish or Pinying b, d, g, Giles wade p, t, k.

Beta, delta, gamma: unaspirated and voiced . Like English b, g, d. Not used in Danish or Chinese.

Phi (ph), theta (th), khi (kh): aspirated and unvoiced. Not used in Latin. Like Danish, English and Pinying p, t. k, Giles-Wade p’, t’ k’.

Back to Beijing: as far as I know the change from k in Peking to j in Beijing is an actual change in pronounciation.

          • davefragments

            >>The ONLINE ENTOMOLOGY DICTIONARY gives this explanation:
1837, from Greek hoi polloi (plural) “the people,” literally “the many” (plural of polys; see poly-). Used in Greek by Dryden (1668) and Byron (1822), in both cases preceded by the, even though Greek hoi means “the,” a mistake repeated often by subsequent writers, who at least have the excuse of ignorance of Greek.

            >>I think that they have a sense of humor, too.

          • Steven K.

Etymology rather? (As opposed to examining things with 6 legs.). BUT – very much like that explanation – NOW I see the relationship – “the” polloi = “the” poly(s) = “the many”. Always knew that “poly” meant “many” – now I see the form “polloi” relating to that and things are now crystal-clear – thanks.

          • SofiaT

Poly = neutral gender, singular form = much
Polloi = male gender, plural form = many

    • davefragments

      I don’t know Greek.
However, my first thought was that Circe was too late in the Greek Pantheon to be Sircea. She claims to be six thousand years old and the Greek Theogony is only half that.

What I did have as a thought was that she was Cain and that over the years the misogynist patriarchy (or should that be patrimony?) changed the Brother/Sister combination to Brother/Brother.

      • Steven K.

Now THAT’S an interesting idea! (Especially as Biblical literalists and/or fundamentalists claim that the world is only roughly six thousand tears old – so the time frame within that interpretation would fit.)

      • Klaus

I would not call that misogynist. Changing the first murderer from female to male would seem misandrist (is that a word?) to me.

  • I am sort of here for camping…I wasn’t able to finish editing book 3 of EMR earlier, so I am here, but not really. ^_^

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Good to see you anyway!

      • *hugs* you better get better soon!

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Aw, thanks, Doki!

    • Glad to see you, even if it’s only “sort of.”

  • stickfigurefairytales

Hi! I’m not going to be here very long since I’ve got a bad cold that has me exhausted.
Also we had a very bizarre sort of half power outage at my house – the lights stayed on but at about half their normal brightness, and my computer won’t turn on so I’m on my phone.

    • ….Your cold is so bad you made your house sick??? Dang girl! Get better soon!!!

      • stickfigurefairytales

        😀 Curse my uncontrolled superpowers!

    • silibub

Ah, that’s rough — I hope you feel better soon. Rest up!

      • stickfigurefairytales

Thanks, silibub! My parents both have the same cold (I caught it from them), and based on their experiences I should start to feel better tomorrow.

    • davefragments

I recommend chicken soup and hot tea.
      Get well.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Thanks, Dave! It was really hot here today so I wasn’t in the mood for soup, but I did have a lot of tea yesterday. 🙂

    • SofiaT

      What Dave said.
      Chicken soup is the tits.
And you can never go wrong with tea. Get well soon!

      • stickfigurefairytales

Thanks, Sophia! Yeah, tea with honey was really nice on my sore throat.

      • Steven K.

There’s an interesting expression I haven’t heard before. The only aphorism I can think of regarding chicken soup is the classic “it can’t hoit”.

    • Aww, feel better Sticki! Being sick is for the birds.

        Thank you, Admiral!

    • Feel better, Sticky!

      What Dave and Sofia said.

I had to be on the phone when I lost internet on Tuesday. It was frustrating.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Thanks, Gryphon! Yeah, this is giving me a lot of sympathy for anyone who has to camp on mobile.

  • In for camping. On and off, anyway. I have homemade blueberry muffins, tea, and yogurt.

I made homemade muffins for the first time this week. They came out a little stiff around the edges. Maybe I stirred them too much?

    How is everyone doing?

    • *steals a blueberry muffin and a cup of tea then quickly goes back to editing…mumbling* why is it every time I go over it I find something new? this is just making things take longer!!

      • It’s always that way with editing…a never ending process.

Hey, I brought the honey too. *puts jar down on desk* Orange blossom honey to be precise. I’ll leave this extra spoon here in case you want some.

        • *quickly adds and stirs in honey then quickly gets back to editing* I am having to add things in the margins of the paper where I am writing things down. ….running out of space.

    • Sushi night and watching biking anime again + starting to pack as dance starts this week. 😉

      • Excellent! And what dances are you working on now?

        • I signed up for a round of pain this year. Cinema Itailano from Nine, two different Bollywood numbers, Roxanne/Cell Block Tango combo and a Tango Bellydance. Summer of being lazy is over 😉

          • I remember you posting the videos from nine and one of the Bollywood numbers. You’re going to do a version of Cell Block Tango and a Tango Bellydance? That is soo cool!

Wish I could dance but I think it’s too late to start.

          • Never say never 😉 I didn’t start until 25 and never danced when younger, so it can absolutely be done. Just have to deal with some embarrassment for a while, but fail 1000x to master, right? 😉

          • True that. And I do love to dance in general. Hmm. *thinks about it*

          • You’ll know right after a couple classes if it’s for you or not. I just don’t like the gym XD

          • Okay, that’s some good advice. I don’t really like the gym either. Hmm *thinks some more.*

      • *starts singing Love HIme theme from where she is editing*

    • Steven K.

I kinda like the little crispy bits an the top edges you sometimes get (well, as long as it’s not actually burned).

      • I feel that way sometimes when I’m stressed and haven’t gotten enough sleep. It’s a good descriptor if you’re not feeling “fried” or approaching burn out.

  • Magic 8-ball suggests an early update tonight……….

    • stickfigurefairytales

Aargh, I wish I could stay, but both my phone and I are running low on juice. Have a good night/morning/day though, everybody!

      • You need to concentrate on feeling better anyway.

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Aw, thank you!

      • We’ll miss you!

        • stickfigurefairytales

Hopefully I should be better in time for the next page. 🙂

    • silibub

That’s great to hear! I’m anticipating this page so much.

    • Yay for Magic 8-ball!

    • SofiaT

Awesome! I’ll be on the road, and on my way to a fundraising event in a couple of hours, so hopefully I get to see the new page before then!

    • Steven K.

Why use one of those when you’ve got that nice, new, shiny, interdimensional portal thingy there to peer into. Well, could still be “under construction” at this very moment – kind of hard to tell if it’s quite finished – or maybe its status is “reserved” until further notice, and too risky to sneak on in and take a peek.

  • silibub

Should we start taking bets on how we think Sircea will react? It could go any which way, so I’ll just choose “panel of silence followed by derisive laughter.”

    • I think that’s likely. She’s certainly not going to back down.

    • SofiaT

It depends on how powerful Duncan really is in comparison to her, or how much she needs him. I don’t think he would issue threats if he wasn’t capable of following through but I can’t see her whimpering to his might either.

So either she’ll be pissed off too and issue some threats of her own, or she’ll try to wave it off as a joke and not really meaning anything by it. I give both scenarios a 50/50 chance.

      • silibub

I think you’re right about her response depending on Duncan’s threat level, although I think (unless she lets her temper get the better of her) she’ll probably try playing it off as teasing rather than let this escalate to a full-blown ugly argument. I’m assuming she needs him to be around for the ritual, and wouldn’t want to risk him leaving in anger or otherwise jeopardizing it.

        • SofiaT

Or she will turn serious and be all “what the fuck?”.
She’s come too close to the truth for comfort but I’m not sure if it’s because she figured it out or because she dismissed it as utterly ridiculous and thought that Duncan would laugh along with her.

          • silibub

I’m curious what she’d consider worse: Duncan having genuine feelings for Kyle that are causing him to pay lip service to the moral conundrum at hand, or for him to actually be having a moral crisis. Right now she doesn’t seem to seriously think it could be both, if I’m reading it correctly.

          • SofiaT

I guess we’ll find out soon enough! 😀

          • silibub

            I knowww *bites nails*

      • silibub

I also think there’s a strong chance that at this point in the game, Duncan needs Sircea and her ability to repair the walls/kill Laampros more than she needs him — now that he’s done the dirty work and sealed the contract, and she’s capable of bringing Laampros through, Operation Big Red looks like it’s gathered too much momentum for him to stop it by simply walking away. Could be wrong, of course!

        • SofiaT

I agree. I don’t see Duncan being very confident that even if Spooky and Kyle can help, they will be willing to do so at the moment…

    • I’d like to see them throw down, but I’d bet on de-escalation. On whose part I couldn’t say.

    • Or Sircea slaps him.

      • silibub

Hopefully just a verbal slap! I’d actually hate to see either of them get violent with the other.

        • I think I’m a little blood thirsty at times. 😀

          • Nooooooeeeeee… not the Admiral. (heeeeeeee).

          • Yay! It’s Mr. Chris!

          • My Chris. well…not mine alone….I do have to share him…

          • Heeeeeee….

          • *hugs* You have been missed hun!

          • I know, shocking right?

          • Shocking in all the best ways!!

          • Snirk.

          • *poke head back in* Some say blood thirsty? Did someone call?

          • Doki’s siren call

          • I wouldn’t mind them going at each others face for more than one reason.
*The wolf is blood thirsty xD*

          • XDD

          • silibub

See, I’m awful because I immediately thought “…You want to see them make out?”

          • I was wavering on that.

          • xD ..well I think they both deserve an ass whooping for what they’ve been doing. If it start with them giving each other that whooping, good, then it might be easier for anyone coming after 😉

          • Ha!

        • Well that makes one of us. 😀

          • silibub

Haha! Mean-spirited theatrics are good enough for me for the time being.

          • The bone of Saint Silibub is a sacred relic and is forever protected in the holy crypt. (he he he)

          • silibub

      • davefragments

you mean “get a hold of yourself, you’re not a lovesick schoolboy” slap?

  • In for camping… *yawns* Are we there yet?

    • silibub

      Hey Danish! We’re gettin’ there.

    • Good morning, Danish! I believe we are approaching the high camping phase.

      • Great.. otherwise I might have gone to sleep another hour.

    • Morning Danish sweetie!

    • Not yet. 🙂

  • Sapfo

Maaaa, I don´t want to play, I want to sleep. What is that you say Ma? Camping?
    I´m up!
    Good morning good people.

    • Good morning, Sapfo!

      Happy strawberry day to you!

      • Sapfo

        Oh you have no idea?
In more ways then one. Tonight I am having my little geek-Captain America party. And I am servis strawberry-cake XD

        • Everyday is a good strawberry day for, Sapfo!

          Wait, Captain America party? NICE!

          • Sapfo

Got some good geek friends who understand that I need to be really geeky, and don´t seem to mind being geeky with me. Fun for all 😀

          • That is so great!

          • Erm…. “geeky” or “greeky”?

          • Or both? 😉

          • Star is wise!

          • Sapfo

          • Sapfo

Are you teasing me mr Dangerfield? Do I have to get Madam AJ here? 😉
Nice seeing your face again 😀

          • Tease the lovely Sapf? NEVER!

          • Sapfo

Hmm! That´s better. Now what was I talking about.
Did you know that I am currently sitting in a dungeon?

          • Ermmmmmmm. WHUT?

          • Sapfo

YES! I am so happy! And I told Danish that I would spread it all over camping today. I am in a dungeon, Thanks to Lady Hamlet that is 😉

Look, is it not a horror XD

          • OMG Strawberry bondage!

          • Sapfo

I was trying to get some spoilers from Hamlet, but she did this to me instead. She is so nice *Blushing*

          • It’s right, but we’ll just have to wait & see 😉

          • Sapfo

It was a good way to distract me. A very good way!

          • Sapfo has never been this happy about being put in a dungeon before 😉

          • Sapfo

Might be a bit to happy about it XD
Maybe I should keep writing in my Strawberrie diary…. where were I, hmmm…

          • indescribably brilliant! Sooo happy for you, Sapfo!

          • You won time in the Eruri strawberry dungeon, and there was lovely Daisuga drawings… both winners!

          • Sapfo

I dont know it Hamlet realize what kind of monster she have in her dungeon. But if you don´t tell her…. Mwhahahaha!
(I think I take the link away after camping)

          • Behind the happy blushed strawberry face lurks…THE MOST TERRIFYING EVIL OF ALL!!

          • Sapfo

ooh, you get me! Now let´s…..

          • HA! *makes sounds*.. sorry.. that was totally just the start of a cough.

          • Heeeeee….

          • Steven K.

Awww – what could be better than that ?/!

    • Morning Sapfo love!!!

      • Sapfo

        Morning Doki!

    • Morning, Ms. Sapfo

      • Sapfo

        Goodmorning Madam AJ!
Soooo, I got to tell you!
The last few days have been absolutely wonderfull. Alex might call me evil and Lady Hamlet threw me in a dungeon. I am a happy strawberry. ;D

        • A happy strawberry is a benevolent strawberry. 😀

  • Acintyabedhabedhadasa

    Next time, on Young Protectors:

SIRCEA: “MY breastplate protects against the dread Purple Nurple. But YOURS, on the other hand…”

DUNCAN: “AAAAAAARGH okay, you win. I’ll get the goat.”

    • silibub

Should’ve gone for just a liiitle more coverage, Duncan.

      • Insurance is all about getting enough coverage.

        • silibub

          Huh. Did Sircea’s plan expire?

          • Wellllllll 6,000 years is a long plan. Hmmmmmm.?

          • silibub

It would take one far-sighted provider.

          • Or far “sighted”… indeed.

          • silibub

LOL, caught it right after I posted it. What can I say, I’m sleepy.

          • Sleeping Beauty… it’s really all those dwarves keeping you awake. No worries… okay.

        • Acintyabedhabedhadasa

          “double indemnity” something something something

        • Steven K.

Best “play on words” / double entendre (along with the context) of the page right there. Sometimes takes a bit to impress me, but that one was a little bit brilliant.

    • Steven K.

  • Yay all editing is done, now to type everything up and send the email to themice! ^_^

  • High camping. In the thick of it.

  • Well, I thought it’d be early and then Vero had some Internet trouble…

    Up very shortly…

    • silibub

It’s still early from my end 🙂

    • Internet Gremlins! Who fed them after midnight?

      • Sapfo

        I don´t know….

        • Are any of your strawberries missing?

          • Sapfo

*counting them, and re-count them several times…..*

Oh no! I think little Miky is not here! He was the youngest and most innocent strawberry… oh wait, I ate him last night. Sorry!

            Nope, not my strawberries!

          • Well it’s midnight somewhere, and the gremlins are about. 🙂

    • davefragments

bad internet! (smack, smack) Bad internet! (smack, smack) Bad! Bad! (smack, smack)

      • silibub

Hey, sometimes it works on my router.

  • Page is up.. me writing about virgins, lost me a virgin 😉

  • davefragments
  • OnyxLight

She’s such a bitch in this scene. I wanted him to smack her… HARD!

  • Ree

    Oh my god. She’s perfect.

  • Harry Underwood

The sneering, the mocking, the shade…she could be in RuPaul’s Drag Race!

  • It seems like the villains always struggle with in fighting…and I always wonder if that would be true.

One thing that I find myself contemplating is that maybe in actuality it would be the opposite…
