The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 112

601 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 112

All right. Well! Our young magic user might be in a spot of trouble right now on this comic page, but he’s been getting lots of your love over at the Patreon page. Since the last update, y’all have blasted through two Milestone Goals, raising your support over $425/month to $5306/month! Holy cow, you all are so totally awesome!

The first Milestone Goal (at $5000/month) was the chance for Patrons to vote for their favorite character for a Patreon-only wallpaper. Currently, Kyle is in the lead by a good margin, but voting will continue until Friday, so it’s not too late to join and cast your vote. Also, because it’ll take a month to get that wallpaper created after the vote is complete, I sweetened the pot by also adding in a fully-nude, full-color Full-Monty The Annihilator Pin-Up as a Special Digital Reward. The coloring for that pin-up is being finished right now, so I should be able to post that up for Patrons by Saturday. Whether you want to use it for a wallpaper for your phone, or would prefer instead to print it out and throw darts at it, I’ll tell you one thing: you won’t be disappointed with the art. This one is truly something special. 🙂

The second Milestone Goal (at $5250/month) was a longer short story answering the question “What does it feel like to kiss Spooky Jones?” And, as I followed the truth of that story, it got kinda steamy. OK, very steamy. And people seemed to like what they read. Here are excerpts from the comments: “Ohhhh myyyyyyyy! Now that was certainly a wonderful diversion, and makes me want to know EVERYTHING about all three characters!”, “Oh Alex. Words are escaping me right now. I haven’t enjoyed myself with written words like that in a long, long time. I could have read a thousand pages of that story in one sitting, food and water be damned!”, and “I’m SO glad I didn’t read that at work! I’m here at home fanning myself.” Wondering what all the fuss is about? Want to feel some Spooky love? The story is up on the Patreon page right now for all Patrons to read.

Of course, an earlier Milestone Goal allowed me to start posting up the NSFW Full-Monty Digital Kickstarter Rewards as Special Digital Rewards. This full-color, “Full Monty” art shows full-frontal nudity of the adult characters of The Young Protectors, something that I’d never show on this site. The first thing I posted up was the Sexy Height Chart of the Guys, which shows all the male members of The Young Protectors team lined up by height. Curious how our boys measure up? Wondering who’s cut and who isn’t? Now you can find out! 🙂 (But you’ll have to act quickly, because unlike the other rewards, I’m only going to be keeping NSFW rewards on the Patreon Page for 60 days before removing them.)

If you become a Patron now and choose to receive the Special Digital Rewards, you will be able to download a wallpaper version of the Sexy Height Chart. You’ll also be able enjoy all the other rewards so far posted, including the “How Spooky Got His Cap” short story that folks have liked so much. And, of course, Patrons who chose to get the Special Digital Rewards (which is the vast majority) continue to receive Digital Kickstarter Rewards every Wednesday and get to see special Sneak Previews on Sunday.

Over 650 of you have already become Patrons in the last six weeks. There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron, and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits!),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron. 🙂

So! Ouch. Looks like The Annihilator isn’t taking any chances with the Spookster. Is our young wizard now out of the fight? How will his teammates react to what just happened? And what will The Annihilator do next?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Nooooooo!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Good job, though!

      • Hee! I was so shocked when the page came up with the new link.

        • Yes, but I don’t like this page. Since it’s yours, please send it back and tell Alex I want a NEW one!

          • I…um…I think we all do. It’s a bad dream that’s it.

          • AW has a lot to answer for. I think I’m going to let Doki off the leash… we still don’t know how Mitch is doing and I think AW is pushing it!!!!!!!!!

          • Poor Alex.

          • The god of TYP sits on an uncomfortable throne!

    • Yes, congrats AJ!

  • davefragments

    no, there wasn’t time

  • Spooky! MITCH!!! Does that mean his cushion is gone? *frets*

    • stickfigurefairytales

I hope not, but at least Mitch wasn’t actively hurtling downwards anymore.

    • Klaus

His fall is already broken. He will just fall a meter or two. That will not hurt him. Much. I hope.

  • stickfigurefairytales

  • Bloody hell. My poor nerves.. they can’t handle much more of this.

    • You and me both.

      • *Grabs Chris hand and nearly squeeze it off* This is going to be a horrible 3 days before knowing what happens next.

  • SofiaT

    YES!!! …I mean, NO!

  • Um… those bottles spilling, are they going be cause trouble??

    • davefragments

Little bottles flying everywhere – – if they break what will spring out?

      • Exactly! Will demons run free? Or more demon snakes? Or flames? Explosions?

        • Oh dear! This could get even messier, very fast.

        • Where’s the bottle that give Duncan a really really serious case of roids!

        • Danny

How about a perpetual itch that is just out of reach?

          • That works too!

          • Oooooh I like the way you think!

          • Danny

Heh. The dark spots in my mind prove useful sometimes! Besides, I’m beginning to doubt that our Silver Fox can ever redeem himself…

          • davefragments

How about the CURSE of LIVER SPOTS

          • Danny

That would definitely impact his good looks, but let’s add some more discomfort to the situation. Unless vanity is his downfall, then perfect!

          • ANNNNNND Spooky unleashes the curse of the ever shrinking weenie!

            Kyle is also pleased!

          • Danny

Ha! There we go. How about another curse causing pants (trousers or undies) to always be too small in the crotch region, no matter the actual size on the tag?

          • Seeeee? You understand perfectly.

          • Danny

Of course, this could have the unintended consequence of causing the Silver Fox to become a nudist… but then he’d have to reveal his shrunken nethers.

          • I’m thinking a constant itch a very private spot. That’s what I’m thinking *scowls*. I began sharpening the pitchfork with Mitch. I think it’s about sharp enough to hurt even Anni pretty bad, if the look in my eyes aren’t enough to take him down *growls*

          • Danny

I’m sure we can find some… interesting crannies for the Perpetual Itch to reside in. Just don’t kill him (too quickly), or we won’t get to see him writhe.

          • Where is Mr. Stabbity when we need him?

          • Klaus

“May your arse itch and your arms be too short” is a curse occasionaly heard in these part.

    • Explosions…?!

      • Lots and lots of them. Or they all mix and *covers eyes* I don’t want to know. It’ll be like crossing the streams.

    • Spooky slowly losing his marbles… I mean bottles. Yes, bottles. XD

    • I wondered that myself. I sure hope they won’t cause further problems for Spooky since he’s landing in the middle of them dropping around him.

We don’t need more bad luck for the team. Fluke better recharge his luck-batteries SOON.

      • IKR? WHAT IS EVERYONE DOING… If I see lawn chairs and popcorn someone’s getting a vicious slap!!!!

      • If this doesn’t recharge Flukes battery…. Unless this is because his batter is depleted? Wait, does Fluke’s battery work in a bit of a cycle? Bad luck happens and so good luck happens but when the good luck runs out and bad luck happens, does that once more lead to good luck?

  • OUCH #2!

  • And that’s my Spooky. NOW MR. DUNCAN MUST DIIIIIIIIEEEEEE…….

  • DIE!

  • A painful Duncan death…

  • Maybe a few years in hell… and I’ll forgive him… NOOOOOT.

  • I think Laampros needs a boy-toy and Duncan is the boy for the job!

  • stickfigurefairytales

I have to admit that if I were in this fight, my instinct would be to grab those bottles and start throwing them at Duncan, which could prove to be a terrible idea. (I mean, I’d try to ask Spooky what each one did, but if he were unconscious…)

  • stickfigurefairytales

I also have to admit that I briefly mistook the blood orb holding the key for part of Sircea’s…ahem, posterior. I did wonder at why it was suddenly so pronounced.

  • Cydney Sabin

Alright. Duncan’s going down. Especially if Chris has anything to say about it…

      • Cydney Sabin

I rest my case. Now to find a suitable punishment…

        • A new prose story…. “Duncan, and the unnecessary circumcision!”

YEAH, THAT’S THE TICKET! What milestone is that?

          • Once again, I’m slumped over my desk, laughing.

          • D. Garrett

          • syllibub

We won’t know whether or not it’s unnecessary until the $5000 milestone reward comes in, yeah?

          • Doesn’t matter… HE NEEDS ONE!!!!!1

          • Yeah… true… but I’m feeling a little ‘Lorena Bobbitt’ tonight.

          • fujoshifanatic

I’ve got a rusty pair of blunt scissors you can use! Where do I send them?

          • You can help with the surgery. I like your attitude!

          • Danny

To cauterize or not to cauterize… that is the question.

          • Klaus

No need to bring blunt scissors. Any scissors will be blunt after you try (and fail) to cut Duncan with them.

          • D. Garrett

i so love the pathological liar. was pure genius!

  • Hoping along with Spooky’s layers he’s wearing some armor under there! Duncan’s punch has GOT to smart! (along with the colorful WHAM text!)

    • Toli Bera

as I said before. probably one of those is a bullet proof Grandma sweater.

  • Toli Bera

and all those Jars break open with scary dragon critters that give Duncan the buisness?

    • THAT would be fun! Fire breathing scary dragon critters with big scaly razer sharp claws and…and giant teeth of steel and glass…

      • Toli Bera

well I mean it’d pay off him showing them off on the flight over.

  • I can’t look at the pages right now, so I’ll just stick to the comments.

As if it wasn’t alreeady horribly obvious that Spooky is being body slammed.. that horribly big WHAM just has to be an extra reminder D:

    • Quick, Danish! We can save Mitch & Spooky *transforms into secret Magical Girl squad!* 😉

      • stickfigurefairytales

Can I get a transformation pen too?!?!

        • I want one! I got wings already!

        • Oh yeah! The more help, the better!!! *glides through the air*

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Whoo-hoo! *sparkly transformation sequence ensues*

      • purplefoxglove

Are you still recruiting? I want in!

  • Sapfo

    Morning good people!
    And NOOOO!
    Not Spooky boy!

So far it seems like Spooky is the one to take the hardest hits.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Well, Mitch got hit pretty hard earlier, but Spooky definitely took a nasty blow there.

    • Toli Bera

      his hat’s still on he’d fine. >n> I hope.

      • That might be a good indication!

        • Sapfo

You mean: Hat one oki, hat of not oki. Well I buy this. Hat on. OKI! ^_^

    • Morning, Ms. Sapfo. Sniff Spoookyyy

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Also, good morning!

    • Good morning, dearest Sapfo!

      • Sapfo

Morning GG, Sticky, AJ and the rest. Birds are singing again 😀

    • Morning! *purrs* and shares warm weather with you!

      • Sapfo

Well right now I am kind of wet. Got water all over me trying to make tea (cold water) XD

    • D. Garrett

      gmorn sapfo.

  • fujoshifanatic

NOOOOOOOO! After the Patreon story, this is hitting me in the gut even worse! Please tell me this is where Kyle goes into his rage-y Hellfire mode and puts a serious hurting on Duncan and Sircea! Yeah, just get real mad, scream, “Red Hot, Flash Fire!” and just start shooting napalm-level flame in both their general directions! That’s what we’re going to see in the next update, right? Right? Please say I’m right! *goes of to curl in a ball and weep softly for Spooky and Mitch*

    • D. Garrett

*weeps too and shares my kleenex with lotion with u.

      • stickfigurefairytales

See, at first glance I read that as “kleenex AND lotion” and I was just going, “Uh, D., I really don’t think this is the time.”

        • D. Garrett

omg *dies laughing. someone bring me back!

          • fujoshifanatic

Oh my! My mind can usually be found in the gutter, but not at a time like this. Still. *small giggle*

          • stickfigurefairytales

Well, to be fair, I also wondered “Wait, so did fujoshifanatic say something in her comment about her hands being really dry or something?” So I wasn’t just ENTIRELY in the gutter. Just…y’know, mostly.

          • fujoshifanatic

Everyone has their own way of dealing with stress, stickfigure, and while I have employed that brand of, er, stress relief on occasion, I don’t think it would serve me here. But don’t think I wouldn’t try if I thought it would. 😉

        • syllibub

…Or is it exactly the time?

No? No. I was asking for a friend.

        • davefragments

Sand in his lubricant bottle? Now that’s really a punishment!

          • Oh Dave… thou art so wonderful. MAKE IT SO!

          • davefragments

I’s better than what I was thinking — a dirty frat song. Too many frat people got in trouble today.
I think this is like atomic balm in the jocks.

          • Still with you!

        • Erm…. it’s always the time. WHAT? WAIT? (did I say that out-loud?)

      • fujoshifanatic

SNIFF Thanks so much D. Garrett!

        • D. Garrett

          u r welcome ff. *sniffles

    • Maus Merryjest

Alas, I don’t think Kyle can do anything- Duncan is fireproof.

      • Toli Bera

Kyle burned him before when he was mad. (he was mad about the after-sex behavior. but this is 2 allies down + still mad about post-sex shenanigans) so he might toast his marshmallow good.

        • Maus Merryjest

I totally forgot that- GO KYLE GO!

  • syllibub

Kyle’s not going to like that at all, if those shock lines are anything to go by.

Love the movement in this page, and how Spooky’s trajectory extends beyond the panel border. Adam and Vero did another kickass job!

    • INDEED!

    • Oh fine, be all artistic and lofty. I’ll enjoy seeing you post when Kyle dumps that bucket of water on your wife! LOL.

      • syllibub

Rude!!! But you’re in distress, so we’ll put that behind us.

(There won’t be anything “lofty” about it, haha!)

        • (chris considers and thinks Syllibub MAY be correct, and that he MAY be able to be reasonable and civil in them morning, butt right now the synapses are all land-mines and collateral damage. So we’ll have to wait for tomorrow for the forebrain to regain control…)

          • stickfigurefairytales

            (Heehee. “Butt.”)

        • It’s Thursday. Syllibub you were quite correct two days ago. I wasn’t in my right mind due to SDS (Spooky Distress Syndrome). Dear Syllibub, you are correct… a bucket of water for Sircea. Trés declassé. She’s not green and would never be caught dead in that old WW of the West schmatta. So, just no, to that old bucket of water.

I think for Sircea’s evil machinations something may HAVE to be done eventually, but perhaps it should be more of a wee splash of Veuve Clicquot Brut tossed off in her direction from a proper Waterford Crystal Toasting Flutes (?) Then, if that doesn’t succeed in melting her… it will be incredibly refreshing for whomever needs to lick it off. Yes?

So, I’m sure we can manage a more appropriate denouement for the wife… even if Spooky get’s a bruise. I must admit… I did scream, “NOT THE FACE.”

He’s too adorbs for that. Even Alex couldn’t be so cruel. Thanks again for your understanding.

          • syllibub

You screamed “NOT THE FACE,” and earlier when Kyle was busy setting Sircea’s cape alight, I was thinking “NOT THE HAIR!” — we have our priorities in order, I’d say.

          • Heeeeee… I never doubted that for a second, but with 6,000 years of experience I know she has many spare capes… She’ll be fabulous by tomorrow… Spooky’s face… Ouch… Still an open question.

Ahhhhhh… Well, life experience is all. 🙂

    • Klaus

And note how the hat stays on!

  • After dealing with demons, I wonder if that’s like a love tap for Spooky? Right?

    • syllibub

If he isn’t at least stunned for a moment after that, though, I think it’s time for Duncan to retire.

      • Isn’t that why Duncan is doing all this, so he doesn’t have to retire?

        • syllibub

        • Well his kids certainly aren’t taking care of him. Hmmmm… maybe he likes BINGO!

          • Supervillain bingo?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            “I destroyed a building, a city, a state, a country, and a planet! Bingo!!!”

          • davefragments

Under the “B” the number is 37.
Under the O, the number is 3.

            Bingo, Duncan style

      • Shady Acres: The Retirement Village for OLD Villains!

    • D. Garrett

      thx. i feel better!

    • EXACTLY SO. Well put, Admiral! Humph!

  • Xithyl

Come back to the previous page everyone! There’s a sentence by sentence story going on and it’s getting good :O

    • D. Garrett

      kay. 🙂

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Ooh, yay!

    • Will that be like going ‘back-in-time’ and Spooky won’t have been hit? Can we change the story this way?

      • Danny

Unfortunately not, but it’s basically an AU, so we can pretend that Spooky was never hit. Sound good?

        • Xithyl

We could always insert a sentence about Anni mysteriously appearing and Spooky beating him to a bloody pulp… 😛

          • Danny

That could work. Now we just need to figure out how to introduce this plot twist naturally…

          • I love you all… I shall dream of this solution tonight.

            Gnite guys!!! 🙂

      • davefragments

Timey-Wimey is left tot he TimeLords of Gallifrey

  • Hmm.. damn computer. Does the direct link still work for you guys? Since I had issues with it on last page too, I’m starting to think I actually did it correct the first time and it’s my computer that changes/saves it wrong after I’ve bookmarked the link.
Just like last page, my direct link bookmark is staying on previous page – in this case the double pagespread – now it does it even when I use the direct link. My direct link still leads to page 110-111 after I’ve either opened my bookmark or pasted the direct link directly into the address bar. I’ve tried to clear the cache to make it work and nothing.

*Hmpf*.. I’ll just stick to how I usually did it before – change the address bar manually and then keeping the link active in my address bar so I just have to click that. It’s probably my computer acting up. Technology does seem to dislike me xD

    • davefragments

You have to open your bookmarks and insert that link. I think what happens is that it executes a script that changes it to the current page of the comic. That’s how I did it.

      • To be even MORE specific. Open your browser’s “Bookmarks Manager”.

Manually create a NEW bookmark. Mine is simply ‘named’ “TYP” and then paste Alex’s magic URL into the space next to the ‘name’ you created and save it… I’ve put mine in the web-browser bar that perpetually lives right on top of my browser in plain sight. Right next to Google.

(Alex can get a big head because his TYP-link is right next to Google… one day his empire will eclipse the old search engine, but this shall serve for now. HA!)

        • Yaoi-engine…. 😉

        • fujoshifanatic

What Chris said. If you’re on a Mac, it’s the Bookmark Editor link in the Bookmark drop down ,menu

          • I’m on a PC.

          • You can do whatever you’re comfortable with. It was never THAT hard. However, it’s the BROWSER that really is the answer. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc….. They all have a way of storing and managing your bookmarks. On the bar, in folders, etc….

So, if you go to whatever type of “Bookmark Manger” YOUR browser has. You can put Alex’s magic URL into it’s own bookmark and place it wherever you want (bar, folder, etc…) and then when you click it it will always take you to the latest page of TYP… once it get’s there.. the URL in the address bar at the top of the browser will change and show the old URL (showing the page number) you are used to seeing.

I hope that makes sense. Good luck oh wizard of the webcomics. I still look to you to find out where all the interesting new comics are popping up and THAT is what’s really important. LOL.

            x, Chris

          • Exactly! This isn’t supposed to be hard. I have literally thousands of bookmarks (I need to clean up in those) and they all work perfectly. One tiny little link, and it’s trolling me xD
And I agree about the comics. I might have a new recommendation or two for you 🙂

          • Yayyyyyyyy….

        • Naah. I don’t want to mess with it anymore. It works for you guys. I’ll just do it how I usually did it before. That worked for me splendidly so I’ll stick to it xD
I was just wondering why it still created issues on my computer when it should be working. Not even pasting the link directly into the address bar leads to the newest page but keeps it on previous page o.O
I’ll just come to terms with that either I’m to damn a tech-noob for this and/or my computer is trolling me. Technology does seem to dislike me.

          • Oh wait, now it finally changed the direct link into the new page. It just took an hour to catch up.

          • D. Garrett

i am the same way. 🙁 i might try to tweak it again after i have coffee tomorrow.

          • Now that I deleted the previous bookmark, I can’t even save the direct link as a bookmark anymore, like I did on last page LOL
I just decided to try a last time, and if I paste the link and then save it as bookmark before loading it, it opens up as a blank page. That bloody worked on previous page, as I was told to do it. Now I’m left with the only option of loading the direct link before saving it, and that’s what went wrong two pages ago.
/Headdesk. Nope, I give up. Changing the address bar work for me, so I’m keeping it.

          • D. Garrett

well im glad u found a way that works for u. im gonna see what happens later.

          • Good luck with it, or just do like me now and skip the direct link completely xD

          • D. Garrett

            thx. 🙂

          • Aha! Sounds like you need to clear the cache. Your browser is loading the cached page (which is the old “new” page). Another way to put it: your computer has saved the page from last time, and rather than looking for the new page, it’s just loading what it saved.

Caching seemed like a great idea, way back when, but it’s been causing more problems as time goes on, especially with sites that update or refresh frequently.

          • I did that even before I wrote my comment xD

Clearing the cache is always the first thing I try if something hasn’t caught up. Did it three different ways and it still didn’t work as it should. Deleted the bookmark, and it took an hour until it worked by pasting the link directly into the address bar.
The new caching already means I clear the cache on a regular basis just on a basis of normal computer care.
I’ll just settle with my computer trolling me and that it works for (almost) everyone else.

    • fujoshifanatic

Are you on a Mac or PC?

  • Mir

Poor Spooks! Those potions are going to break too. Alright Kyle, it’s your time to raise hell with Duncan.
Btw, Where exactly did Spooks get hit? Uppercut to the chin? Or his feet?

    • AseretZone

I’d say he got hit in the chest and propelled upward and backward by the hit.

  • Kaatje Van der Zee

  • Dark_Otter

Wow, Duncan smacked Spooky so hard it merited its own special font.

  • A fan note to Adam and Veronica…

    Dear A&V,

I don’t know what kind of horrible “hold” over you both that the diabolical Alex has that would FORCE (yes I said it, ‘force’) you to so beautifully illustrate the horrible pugilistic punishment of sweet innocent Spooky, that we see in this page. So I just want you both to know that I hold you both blame-free for Alex’s heinous crimes against Spooky on this page.

Tomorrow, I shall be a new man, and be able to speak cogently about the beauty of this page but, for tonight, I must complete my Alex-voodoo doll and finish sticking all it’s pins in.

No, please don’t thank me. I can clearly see he has forced you into horrible artistic servitude, otherwise you would never have let that mindless bruiser of Duncan strike my poor sweet Spooky.

Thank you for your understanding… now I’m off to my “horrified squee lessons” from Doki (who still doesn’t know how Mitch is BTW!!!!) and I’ll get back to everyone tomorrow.

    Respectfully yours,

    • D. Garrett

gnite chris. sweet dreams and dont forget to grope ur partner b4 dozing. XD

      • Thanks. Done and done.
(all he said -sleepily- was gerrofffff!)

        • D. Garrett

          too cute!!!

    • Sapfo

Alex, I have you know that this man, Our dear lovely boy Chris, Do not know how to make voodoo dolls (I think). And If he does, I taken the time to tangle his yarn up, so it will take to long for him to make.

Love the page. Even if Spooke seems to be in trouble, I belive that nothing bad will happen (please?)

      Respectfully yours,
      Sapfo the Strawberry

      • Voodoo dolls aren’t difficult, minor Law of Similarity combined with Law of Contagion. It’s all in the way you sprinkle the oricalcum dust. Plus, clover grass works better as a stuffing than alfalfa.

Oh, and never use underwear scraps.

    • lol. Thanks for letting us off the hook, Chris! 😉

  • AseretZone

Oh, drat! I thought he’d manage to catch him before he hit! Welp, Anni looks like he enjoyed punching him. And since Spooky isn’t a kid, he’ll be all too happy to whack him again!

Will he be okay? Will Sircea turn around and zap him? Get out of there, Spooky!

  • Klaus

Let’s hope that his magic at least cushioned the blow somewhat.

    • Considering his posture as he lands (his head is up and looking toward Duncan still) I’d have to say that reinforced Burberry is doing its job just fine.

  • Alex.. not to criticize the page, but the more I look at it artwise, the more I think that Wham isn’t really that needed. The brillant art and that flash-star + the bodylanguage/facial look on Spooky emphasize quite well that he was hit, and hit HARD.
Where the *Fa-thoom* on previous page felt more well placed (and maybe better blended in colorwise), IMO those big red letters almost take some of my attention away from the art. I see them first. It’s almost like those 60’s movies/comics putting in an extra-extra sound effect 😉

Then again, having my attention taken a little away from the vision of Spooky getting hit isn’t so bad after all.

    • I can always be convinced that a sound effect isn’t necessary. Mostly I’m concerned that I use them too infrequently, which is part of the reason I added it here. They are always in my script, but mostly there to guide Adam for what I’m looking for. Almost none survive. (Usually, the only ones that do are when I think something won’t be clear without it, i.e. multiple gun shots in a single panel, a buzzer going off, etc.) And because I’m the letterer of this comic, I’m sometimes concerned that my own personal distaste for sound effects in comics might be taking away from some of the power of the action scenes.

I’m OK with folks seeing the WHAM first; timing-wise that makes sense. The question is whether it increases the impact of what’s happening or detracts from the impact. If the consensus is that it detracts, I’ll remove it. Folks can weigh in in the comments here.

      • I’m like you then, because I like how TYP doesn’t have all those sound effects and only the more needed ones – which I generelly think you place really well 🙂
I think ‘over the top’ sounds efffects in a comic can end up making it almost unnecessary comical. This isn’t the case here, because the art make it not so, but I do think it detracts a little. Maybe because the red is so strong a color. It doesn’t necessarily needs to be removed, if other readers like it, but maybe not have the color contrast be so big.

        • Thank you, Danish. 🙂 I think it either stays or goes, though. If it’s just there a little bit, it’ll bug me more. A bold choice isn’t always the right choice with a sound effect, but for it’s purpose here, I don’t think subtle is the way to go.

We’ll see what people say. As I said, I’m happy to ditch it. There are things that are essential to my story that I feel strongly about. This is icing. I’m not married to it.

          • fujoshifanatic

You know, I don’t think it’s the fact that the “Wham” is there (personally, I like it–I expect and enjoy those kind of fun, cheesy effects in my super hero comics!) as much as how it’s styled. I would have personally placed the sound effect inside the yellow impact blast, behind Duncan’s fist, still in a red font, but one that is more jagged, like lightning bolt strokes, and at an angle that matches the direction of the blow. That way, it looks more like the sound affect is part of the scene–you feel like you’re seeing what it sounds like when Duncan is punching the hell out of Spooky. The way it’s styled now, the “Wham” doesn’t look like part of the scene; it almost looks like it’s narration after the fact that was pasted in there, if you know what I mean. That’s my two cents.

      • Klaus

I think that such sound effects just makes the comic look stupid.

      • Jonni

I love the WHAM for the speed lines coming off it. It feels dynamic.

      • Madock345

I like the WHAM! It adds emphasis and keeps the panel from looking unbalanced by putting something “heavy” in the top left. That font is kind of weird though, but I like that, made me stop for a second before moving down the page.

      • I’m usually quite the fan of the SFX wording, but I have a thought and it’s only that.

Usually in visual media… SFX and Music live behind the action invisibly manipulating our emotions and hopefully we don’t realize how very much, because they do… A LOT.

I like TYP’s usage because it seems the comic conventions of on-screen SFX wording or lines and rays is used very sparingly and most often in the BG, such as radiating of Amanda’s head when she says “No, Spooky!” It’s not the focus.

“Fa-Thoom” felt appropriate to me in it’s size, it’s opacity, it’s color in relation to the magic and it was up in the sky further away from the center… so it wasn’t the MOST important thing I saw, that was (as it should be) Sircea’s explosion and MITCH being blown off Panel.

I think it’s not the fact of the WHAM. It’s the choice of FONT, COLOR, even the WORD itself. The action of the page is very naturalistic, while that “WHAM” (while fun, is still a very straight forward old fashioned Batman-style. (WAMMO!, KA-POW!, BAM!).

I’m sorry I can’t think of a more naturalistic SFX-word at the moment, but what would that sound really be?

And could it be blended into the scene (color, font, size and placement) so Duncan and Spooky are the most prominent actors and it’s just supporting them, rather than the other way around?

There, my vote? Keep a new version of it if you can. As critical things go? It’s NOT a big deal. But fun to think about. Thanks.

        • Besides what else I said in my OP and my reply to Alex, you managed to word exactly what it was that felt a bit off to me this time. The sound effect isn’t bad, but it just doesn’t feel completely..right when looking at how Alex usually use them..

  • Sapfo

Depth analysis of small things, so, not really an analys at all 😀

Duncans pocket belt in the first part of this page kind of reminded me of bellydancers coin belt. Does it clink when the shakes his hips?

The seconed part of this page when Spooky lands. I really like the dirt and the grass. Well done!

  • Hours Left

That’s some full on classic comic book whammo action there.

    (I like the WHAM.)

  • And still Duncan’s hair is perfectly coiffed!

    • Toli Bera

      Hair helmet.

      • It’s just not fair that his hair remains untouched.

        • I’ll see what I can do. 🙂

        • Jonni

Maybe he uses styling concrete. Very resilient.

          • Probably, but dayam!

          • fujoshifanatic

Super Brylocream? I heard the original stuff could keep hair in place during a hurricane.

    • Phyre Storm

      It’s painted on. He’s actually bald. 😛

  • Saxon_Brenton

So, the Priestess’ gambit worked, and her combat-wombat character is back in the game. Tactically the question becomes: which of the Young Protectors is best qualified to disable the Annihilator again?

(Interestingly, in hindsight this is something that the Commander overlooked. She specified the chain of command in the case of her being incapacitated, but she didn’t give any thought to a plan B to who else could/should take over with neutralising the Annihilator as a threat in the case that Spooky was taken out.)

Let’s look at the options. Notwithstanding some previously unmentioned recouperation powers, its unlikely that Flyboy will be able to pull a last-ditch “rocks fall, supervillains go splat” manouevre with a boulder accelerated to Mach 2.

Depending on what sort of magic he has to protect himself from physical harm, I don’t anticipate Spooky standing up, brushing himself off, and going “I’m gonna make you regret that.” before launching himself into a second round.

The way Tsunami used his powers earlier in the fight suggests he doesn’t have the speed to splat Annihilator – but admittedly that may have been him keeping his light under a bushell in order to lull Anni into a false sense of security.

Depending on whether Red Hot ‘s powers actually were boosted by his rage at the Annihliator or whether it was simply his powers being boosted by being in a hell dimension, Red’s fire powers might be useful to keep him on the defensive.

Depending on whether the downing of both Flyboy and Spooky has charged up his luck, Fuke may or may not be able to walk up to Annihilator and cause him to slip on a banana peel and break his neck.

But for my money Commander is a better bet for simply giving Annihilator a killer migraine – and at a guess Annihilator is less likely to have psychic defences than the Priestess. Also, consider this: It looks like Spooky was able to grab Annihilator with his ectoplasm because he ambushed Anni while the villain had his attention focused on the others. Now that Annihilator knows where all the hero team members are, he’s less likely to fall for that and might be able to use his speed to dodge anything Tsunami and Red Hot use against him. By comparison any mental attacks that Commander launches at him will happen at the speed of thought and in any case be invisible to him, so he can’t dodge.

Therefore, I expect Commander to be the next one to tussel with the Annihilator.

    • A very good analysis, Saxon. 🙂

    • Columbine

Been a while since I read it but the implication I got from the Commander’s planning-speech was pretty much ‘if we start dropping concentrate on stopping the ritual, not the bad guys’.

Red Hot might be able to keep both villains on the defensive, especially if it was his anger previously, but I worry about the potential for civilian casualities with his power set in that situation.

  • bronakopdin

    oh noooooooes >___<'
I guess we all knew this would happen T^T poor Spooky, hope he's alright there!
gosh I totally hate Duncan right now… I always try to see the good in people but his good points get drowned more and more by his bad ones in this whole situation… well hope dies last right?! (And my name means hope xD)

    • Klaus

“Så længe der er liv er der håb.”
      Danish proverb.

      • Jeldenil

Zo lang er leven is, is er hoop, we say in Dutch. 😉

        • bronakopdin

I guess in German it would be:

“So lange man lebt, gibt es Hoffnung” 🙂
          though it’s not a common proverb ^^

we rather have a translated version of “hope dies last” which would be “Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt” ^^

          • davefragments

Ben Franklin once said — “He who lives on hope, dies farting.”

Which, for a man as historically distinguished as Ben Franklin, is rather pithy.

          • bronakopdin

it’s not that anyone talked about living only on hope here though xD

            interesting quote though!

          • Klaus

            De der bare håber,
            er de rene tåber.
            Lad os bare håbe,
            men ikke bare håbe

            Piet Hein

            Those who only hope,
            are pure fools.
            Let us only hope,
            but not only hope.

And BTW I think davefragments misspelled “fasting” above.

          • bronakopdin

thanks for the correction 😀 and adding another poem 🙂
the last two verses are so nice, I guess I might reuse them sometime ^^

  • Rhiannon D’Averc

    … Uh-oh.
I love the background details (here and ongoing through the rest of the scene). It’s awesome to be able to see the rest of the fight at the same time. I guess some comics would play it lazy and draw everything at such an angle that you couldn’t see the other details in the background. It really adds something, though.

    • I agree with you 100% on the importance of showing background details for realism, orienting the reader, etc., especially for a big fight like this. And Adam does an amazing job with it. 🙂

      • Klaus

        So he does.

  • Klaus

See? Just as we pass 666 patrons, the Duncan gets in a solid hit.

  • Madock345

Here’s hoping that red vial is a health potion!

  • Jeldenil

For a second, I thought Sircea’s butt had tripled in size. Then I realized the ‘other cheek’ was the key-bowlingball-thingy. Farewell, hopes off butt-growing-powers.

    • Sybarite

I think what you are looking for is called “butter”. Eat a stick of it three times a day and watch your butt expand almost instantly!

      • Tahir Raines

Sufficiently advanced technology is truly indistinguishable from magic.

  • As powerful as both these Villians seem, I’m kinda surprised how long this fight is lasting.

    • HermeticallySealed

It really hasn’t been that long though, that’s just an illusion due to the fact that we get one page every 3-4 days. In the setting, only about a minute or so has actually passed.

  • Becky

Duncan, don’t you punch my boy!

  • somebody

    finally wednesday!!
and uuuuhhh that must hurt really really bad…
poor spooky… first the leg, now a badasspunchofdoom…
but I bet he has an ace…
he must have an ace Q_Q

    • Klaus

Finally Wednesday. Is it Saturday yet?

  • Mersharr

Wonder what happens when those potions break on the ground all at once

    • Well, the last time that many potions busted at once, it was Knights of the Dinner Table. One the characters was blasted across dimensions and spontaneously reincarnated.

      • DON’T SAY THAT! No one jinx anything o_o

  • Jeffrey Jacobson

Oh noes!!! I just hope Spooky has some kind of automatic magical defenses going or extra-tough body.

  • ProudPlatypus

The fight here really is between, Duncans hair staying perfectly in place, and Spookys hat staying on. Which will be the first to go? The suspense is so real.

    T3T~ Spookys ribs though.

  • timemonkey

On the one hand I’m all “Spooky. no!” on the other hand I can’t help but think “Damn, good distance and he made him bounce!”

    • Tyler Griffin

Duncan’s hobby, instead of skipping rocks, it’s bouncing would be heroes

      • Klaus

“Next on my agenda was Spooky, but I skipped him.”

  • Coming back to torment myself by looking at this page again along with the previous one.
My pitchfork is SO ready for Team Silver, because I haven’t forgotten about PP hurting Mitch – even in my panic around Spooky. It’s just made me all the more bloodthirsty, now against both of them.

*Thinks about things that could torment and hurt most possible to keep the panic away*
*Starts sharpening the edge of a tablespoon*

    • Team Pitchfork has plenty sharp instruments to spare. 🙂

      • Thank god, Mr. Stabity has arrived. Whew!

        • Been busy, Chris, busy manufacturing an entire arsenal of pitchforks of differing sizes and sharpness in the hope that one will succeed in battering its way through that bastard’s backside.

          • Could you take over the sharpening of my tablespoon?
Not too sharp, that would be too easy, but I’m starting to contemplate what parts of Anni I could dig out with a spoon. I’d start with a certain pair of balls and work my way up from there…

<..> Uhm, did I say too much?

          • Tyler Griffin

don’t forget to keep the spoon a bit rusty

          • DC

There’s a tongue twister in that comment somewhere. “Been busy building barbaric bodystabbers to batter, bruise and bloody the backstabbing bastard’s backside” 😉

          • I thinkthis may have won the internet.

    • Tyler Griffin

Don’t get mad. Just keep imagining how extensive of a massage and chiropractic session he’s going to need from you after that bouncy landing.

      • I can give a lot of that without Anni causing reasons. Like I’d even need an excuse 😉

  • Pikinanou

Ouch! That landing! It’s going to hurt tomorow!

    • Klaus

      Let us hope so.

  • Dennis Grace

What’s with all the loose potion phials flying along with Spooky?

    • Tahir Raines

Momentum, I assume. Spooky’s momentum carried them some way with him.

      • Dennis Grace

I’m not curious about the physics of the phials, Tahir, but about their content, purpose, and reason for their presence on a battlefield. Will one of them break and the fumes cause all within olfactory reach: to fall madly in love with a neighbor? to turn into a manticore or chimera? to speak in tongues? to unknowingly be immune to tetrodotoxin?

        • Tyler Griffin

Well, Spooky made a point of showing them to us back on the plane. And he was loaded down. As I have mentioned before, Alex is NOT a lazy writer. IF Spooky showed us a huge stockpile of potions and then “Snakes in a Bottle” was the only one he ever pulled it would lead to the reader questions of “Where did they go, why did he bother?” Having them become debris on the Battle field reminds us they are there, is much more realistic than having them all survive that hit unscathed, helps to further demonstrate the force with which Duncan just put the smack on the Spook, and litters the field with potential plot devices in a believable and realistic manor. All in all, I think it’s awesome usage of them on both Alex and Adam/Vero to use them like that. I imagine some of them WOULD go ahead and activate their effects as normally if broken, some would TRY to activate their effects but may fizzle without a deliberate focus, and some probably would just become volatile and go boom regardless of their intended effect, just depending on the nature of the spell or effect contained.

  • $107 away from milestone #10 🙂

  • Timothy Frierson

    …looks like Anni rolled a 3 on knockback…

  • Since everything seems to be descending into chaos for the moment for the good guys, I’m wondering if that will mean Kyle and Annihilator will have a confrontation.

Also, I wonder if any of those bottles and vials will come open, leak, or break after that…Those potions seem to do weird things. Also, what if they’re mixed? o.O That could cause chaos for everyone, not just the good guys. :p

  • Abbi Orenstein

    nuuuuuuuuuuuuu SPOOOOOY!!!!!!!!

sadly no plan ever survives contact with the enemy.

  • larry

Well it’s not much of a climax, if the villains don’t get a few licks in. Now the REAL fight can start.

  • Columbine

Hmmmm I notice Tsunami is trying to save the sacrifices, I reckon Anni is gonna try and stop him next.

  • Thank you for responding to my question about the sound effect on this page. 🙂

There were lots of people who liked it, others who might have liked it with various tweaks, and still others who found it distracting. As I said, my personal taste is to almost never use sound effects unless clarity would suffer without it. If there had been near unanimous agreement that the sound effect added to the page, then I would have kept it. But since I was on the fence already, I’ve decided to remove it.

As usual, I think Adam and Vero’s amazing art gives this page all the power it needs. 🙂

(Oh, and if you’re the type who has to know what this page looked like before, you can see the version with the sound effect on my Patreon page under the Creations tab. You don’t even need to be a Patron, it’s a public post.)

    • I, for one, totally concur. The completely forward moving impact and surety of Duncan’s body language, the huge gold “star” that indicates Duncan’s strike/impact and the absolutely perfect body language and face full of pain that we see from Spooky as his body flies backwards says everything that the “Wham” sought to augment. In fact, I think this is rather more impactful in that the pain feels real. Thanks for making us part of the process Alex. Very kind.

      • Adam Black

        where is the with page?

        • DC

Do you mean the page with the “wham”? If you check Alex’s comment he says the page can be seen from the Patreon site.

        • Ummmmm … The latest page…? Yes?

    • davefragments

I put the “with” and “without” pages next to each other.
My eyes go to Duncan and his expressions, positions, and the punch without the “wham” and then to Spooky. . . With the “wham” my eyes go to Spooky and then to the lower frame. Also, I only noticed the bottles in the lower frame until I went back and took a good second look at the first frame. Now I see them in both frames.
I think those sound effect words were used in the old paper comics because of the limited colors and small frames that they used. It’s very Dick Tracy and Batman-like old school comics.
I also think one of those green spots in an uneaten jalapeño but that might be because it’s near dinner time and I’m hungry.

    • Thank you for listening. Seeing the page now, I do think it looks better without. Also more in style with the previous pages 🙂

  • Vernon K. Avaritt III

  • rgleon9986

    Well shit.

  • purplefoxglove

Alex, how could you!? First hell, then the throwing star, and now this. Quit it with the Spooky bashing already!

You will have to write a lot of Spooky mini stories to make up for this >:O

    (Don’t worry, I still adore you 😉 )

  • Shinashi

You’re going to give me ulcers, Alex.

  • Dakejev

I know I’ll be lynched for this (with all the Spooky-loving people around here), but go, Duncan! Wheee! =D

    • Really… (Coiling the noose rope)… Why ever would you think that?

      • Dakejev

It’s alright, I didn’t come back to read the comments until 15 hours since my own post. =P

  • Forgive me if someone already mentioned this, but it strikes me that Spooky might get the last laugh, as the ground is strewn with bottles of his noxious concoctions for anyone to step on or use. The biggest winner here, Paul! It would be “dumb luck” if Sircea stepped on a bottle and unleashed a barrel of screaming demon-monkeys or Duncan to launch for the finishing move on Spooky, only to land on a bottle of “oops! you’re a harmless gas cloud for the next hour.” The potential for sheer, epic fun is hilarious! Thanks again to the master team of Alex, Adam, and Vero for making this possible. Once again, you deliver the goods. I cannot wait until Saturday!

  • I see Kyle in the corner of the bottom panel. He’s seen what’s happened to Spooky. This is going to turn into one giant clusterfuck isn’t it? Kyle’ll possibly(probably) lose focus or he’ll go nuclear. Neither option is great.

I’d like to see Spooky get to his feet quickly or so something. Maybe his little demon friend will show up and help him? Or more clusterfuck and Duncan is going to run and hit him some more.

Someone tell me it’s going to be okay. I haven’t been this anxious since Duncan cast that spell.

    • Kyle hasn’t done ANYTHING yet.. You know I love him… But why would you expect anything of him now? He’s been the most passive character in the bunch…. ?

      • Because he has the little startle flare by his head and it’s Spooky who told him he wasn’t a monster.

        • Klaus

Amanda tells Spooky he is not a monster. Spooky tells Kyle that he is not a monster. That Kyle is not a monster, that is. Not Spooky. Do you see a pattern here? Who’s next?

          • Are there any others at this point? Unless we find out Mitch is the son of an Air demon

          • Klaus

Paul does seem to be free of inner demons, but appearances can be deceiving. And who knows what dark secrets Gordon’s stand-offish facade hides?

I don’t think we are going to see Kyle telling his dad that he is not a monster, but what about the “cute demon”? (I still think that it is a monster, being a demon, but in Alex’ world things may work differently.) On a lighter note, how about “George”?

    • Klaus

Kyle must stay focused. If PP gets a moment where she can do as she pleases, there is no telling what will happen. But it will not be good.

  • Sterling Ericsson

That actually looks like he pulled the punch a bit. Spooky didn’t get hit nearly as far as I would have expected from someone of Duncan’s strength.

    • He’s OLD! That is his selfish problem…

    • Klaus

Or it could be that that magic shield Spooky almost got in place was not entirely without effect.

    • Guest

That low should have torn his head of completely and shatter the skull.

    • Guest

That blow should have torn his head of completely and shatter the skull.

    • Ruben

That blow should have torn his head off completely and shatter the skull.

      • Sterling Ericsson

Realistically, yeah, or just a hole straight through him. Which is why I think Duncan purposefully pulled the punch into it causing more of a momentum force. I doubt he would want to actually kill Spooky.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

This worries me…..he’s losing “trinkets” from his jacket as he bounces along…..How much longer can this go on?

    • Dakejev

What worries me more is that those trinkets seem to activate upon breaking. There might be “just a small demon, honest” chewing on a friendly face soon enough. o_o

  • blkwhtrbbt

Thaaaaaat should have cracked ribs. Spooky will NOT be fiNE

    • Spooky’s hell bones will protect him from the pitiful attempts of the childish Anni… Boo-boo I was bullied as a child. Duncan and Adolf… Life is hard. So sad. Let’s destroy the world…. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee…

    • Klaus

As one knight in the Belgariad says to another after a joust: You’ll be fine. Nothing a few months of bed rest will not fix.

  • Klaus

Next: scripts. That will be interesting.

  • Annnnnnd the WOOT worthy awesomeness continues as we burned through milestone #10 and head toward #11… The squeeefactor is massively sonic, I recommend ear protection! Thanks guys. Klaus explains all below…

    Is it Friday yet…?

    ……..Let’s hope it wasn’t a…total knockout…COME ON, SPOOKY!!!!!!

  • Jojolightningfingers

My only consolation is that Anni didn’t feel the need to punch straight THROUGH him.

  • Terry Pratchett of Discworld fame and many others passed away. He was, without a doubt, one of my favorite authors. He wrote amazing characters of every sort. Actually not to many authors of any gender wrote women as smartly as he did. His magical lands are still my refuge on rough days. There was room in his worlds for all types of hoomans. He will be heartily missed by this queer.

“No-one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away – until the clock he wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life, they say, is only the core of their actual existence.”

    — Terry Pratchett (Reaper Man)

    • davefragments

      yes, sad news.

    • I’m going to reread Wee Free Men. The first Terry Pratchett novel I was introduced to.

    • Shjade

I only just got my first Discworld novel a couple of days ago (Thief of Time). Fitting title under the circumstances, after a fashion. Haven’t even started reading it yet.

      Dang. 😐

      • You are in for a treat. There are many many differing Discworld novels. You can’t go wrong.

A lot of them read as lovely stand alones – the nice thing is that the more you read, the more you run across old friends. Often a main character from another book wanders through as a minor character in another one, since they’re set in communities with different foci.

Thud is a masterpiece, that was my first introduction to Sam Vimes and the Watch, after which I read all the Watch ones.

Lords and Ladies (loosely based on a Midsummers Night Dream with a lot more alcohol – oh I love the Lancre Morris men who win the All Comers Lancre Morris Competition when the other team ran away) was the first one I really fell in love with, that was the first one of his I read and is a great introduction to the Witches and Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Og are a treat.

The entire Tiffany Aching saga is lovely and very funny, worth reading in order, starting withThe Wee Free Men. Going Postal is also a very good standalone. The Hogfather, also lovely and a good standalone.

Terry drew so often from classic stories you’ll recognize the subtle jokes everywhere. Enjoy.

        • Klaus

          Sad news indeed.

Good Omens, by Pratchet and Gaiman, may well be the funniest book I ever read.

    • Saxon_Brenton

It hurts. I mean, we’ve been expecting this for some time, but it still hurts. So much so that I don’t know if I’m in the right frame of mind to judge whether this story link is a good idea or not right now. Let us proceed with good will…

Just over a year ago I wrote a short story that literalised his 2009 comment about “Taking the disease with him”. If you need some primal scream therapy, the first story in this anthology, ‘Grudge Match’ might help:

    • *cries buckets*

        *hugs you*

    • stickfigurefairytales

My all-time favorite author. I miss him so much.

      • In my quote… OF HIS… it speaks to the idea that we all exist as long as our work is remembered. I’ll read him forever, so I think that says it all.

Neil Gaimon wrote a wonderful piece in THE GUARDIAN about a month before (he knew time was short). The piece is great and the comments below it are worth the read, as they speak to how great and diverse Terrry Pratchett’s audience really was. He was truly special.

  • I’m living proof that one doesn’t grow out of being a fan-boy. Who da thunk that seeing my precious Spooky get a boo boo would cause my ranting below? (Okay it was fun) However, this is a great page and I’d be a rat-bastard not to say so (although I’m still cranky about the hell-date… I have Mr. Stabbity on speed dial right now, LOL)

This page makes the most gorgeous use of the two stack panels. The slight diagonal just accentuates the direction of the action and frames it so very well for both.

    Panel #1:

As always Alex, props to you. You give us the most thrilling and exciting option. ALWAYS. Thank you for kindly allowing me to melt-down (He he he) regarding Duncan’s perfidy below, but seriously. I WAS having trouble figuring out a non Deus-ex-machina way for Spooky to avoid that freight train that was Duncan and I couldn’t. And you did the honest thing. He didn’t. So bravo. It’s a shocking page in a good way.

Now, that said, I’m counting on the toughness of Spooky’s hell-bones, built in shielding in his magic cap, a kevlar duster, the right bottles to break, etc… so I DO NOT COUNT MY SPOOKY OUT. Although he may need a glomping hug from Kyle (heeeee).

Love the body and facial expression in both panels. Truly first class. I can feel Duncan’s movement and commitment (I guess he don’t like tentacle love… do he?). His motion really matches the speed we felt in that final frame of him as a horizontal freight train on the last page.

I love the motion of the upper cut and that starburst in the center which let’s us feel the impact, even though Spooky is already in motion. I’m not sure exactly, but I think it fools us into reading a sense of ‘time’ into the panel and that’s pretty amazing. There are many webcomics out there that we all love, but there aren’t many artists who give good ‘motion & duration’ like Adam and Veronica. Lucky lucky us.

I (can’t say love) appreciate the feeling that Spooky’s body and face lets us readers feel. OUCH… Yep, so many readers said it, and that’s because we can FEEL it.

Love the vials and bottles scattering adding to the sense of complete disruption. Love the leaves scattering in the breeze of Duncan’s motion. Love the little diagonal white lines (reflecting the lower frame line) all suggesting how fast both Duncan’s body and fist, and Spooky’s body are moving… and yet it’s not detracting from the feeling of emotional intensity and pain. There’s real balance there.

LOVE THAT SPOOKY’S HAT DOESN’T FALL OFF! (someone said this below, but it bears repeating)!

Veronica, you were very kind to just show a ‘dampness’ where Spooky’s blood would be from the earlier shuriken in his thigh. I don’t think I’d have been so very restrained and gracious in my rash of comments below if bright red blood had been flying everywhere. LOL.

    Panel #2:

Damn the perspective on this shot is awesome. I know I’m repeating myself but moving the camera like this and having characters bodies in motion is just top notch art. Changing direction, but not leaving us feeling gobsmacked and wrenched-about really shows how carefully you three planned this one-two punch of a page.

The arcing white lines of motion show Spooky’s path and landing so naturally and they really mirror those of his upward movement in the previous panel, just in reverse, nicely giving us that sense of continuous motion over the cut. Love that all the detail continues. The bottles scattering. The hell-sphincter flaming in the background. The platform. (OHHHHH there’s our glass-box full of demon-chow). Damn, my poor Spooky even makes a furrow in the mud. Thank you for all the detail Adam and Veronica.

Also thank you Alex for not missing a detail — (as others noted) such as the little emotive lines for Kyle or that Tsunami is working on the glass box. Just little details that keep that sense continuity flowing and the idea that, even with this rather monumental setback, they still haven’t given up on whichever parts of the plan they can move forward on.

UMMMMMM… ALEX? Where the heck is that military. Hell, I’ll do it… (no where is that number)… 1-800-Nav-Seal or something. So unfair. If they’re off saving someone that isn’t ME… than I’m pissed. /end rant.

Okay, thanks for letting me blab some more about this page.

Alex, Adam and Veronica would you please stop being so talented when it comes to illustrating these scenes where my favorite characters are being stomped on? Thank you kindly. And yessssss… I can’t wait for tomorrow. 🙂

    • Thank you, Chris, for your thoughtful play-by-play analysis on a tough page 🙂 I agree that Adam and Vero did an outstanding job here.

  • Kate G

Um, guys, is anyone else worried about the potions that were violently evicted from Spooky’s coat? Is anyone worried about what THEY MIGHT DO?! FORGET ABOUT SPOOKY FOR A MINUTE!!!! WHAT ABOUT THE POTIONS?! What if one of them is a “annihilate the vicinity” potion so the whole area goes KABLAM?! Anyone else worrying about this? Hm?! HM!?!?!?!?!?! I don’t exactly like the look of that red one.

Oh, have I mentioned how sore I am? I’m learning trotting and posting in therapeutic horseback riding. Guys, that stuff is HARD. Ow. I’m so sore.

    • Klaus

I do not think Spooky would have a potion to annihilate a large area. An occasion to use such a one responsibly would not come around very often.

But less than that could also mean that our heroes lose the battle, if it goes off at the wrong place.

      • Yeah… one giant Spooky hug at the wrong time and *smash* there goes the eastern seaboard… Yikes!

      • Kate G

I never said a HUGE area; but a Spooky sized area? Maybe. But then, he probably would have that one in a really protected bottle.

Maybe it just has a really ugly demon in there.

      • Saxon_Brenton

A single potion, sure. However, I’m suddenly thinking on an explosion in a fireworks factory, where all those little crackers go off at once and the combined effect is nasty.
(And then there’s the possibility of magical synergy, where the effects of one potion cause a completely unexpected effect when accidentally combined others…)

        • Well observed. One “teeny demon” coupled with a massive embiggening spell and you have Godzilla. I think you are correct and we should avoid mixing the potions.

        • Klaus

The good old potion miscibility table from DMG.

    • Posting gets easier over time as you find the rhythm and then becomes second nature. 🙂

      • Kate G

I was getting the hang of it by the end of my lesson. I’m musically inclined so once I figured out that trotting is like eighth notes I was starting to get the swing of things (using music in other fields of study ftw, right?) It’ll probably take me another few lessons to get trotting down though.

It’s not scary as it is that I have to remember posting, looking AND steering all at the same time. Oh, and not pull back on the reins. I was getting the “not pulling the reins” bit as I got more comfortable with posting. I’m really lucky that I’m working with really easy horses that are trained to go at a rider’s pace, I’m a natural (that was my second lesson) and I also have a really good coach. I nearly fell off the first time though!

        • I remember my first lessons. That was some pretty tricky maneuvering. Just gotta build up the muscles and keep having fun!

          • Kate G

Yea, I’m sore, but not as sore as last time. I hurt for DAYS everywhere last time (but I was also bareback.) My legs hurt a little today, but it’s almost gone. I’m a former ballerina, so it was more activating those muscles again. Ha ha ha.

          • That should help a whole bunch!

          • Will kegles help?

          • -_-

          • WHAT? Horses between the legs… WHAT? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

          • Not those muscles.

          • The body is holistic. One is ALL and ALL is ONE. Right?

No? Heck, at least it would help me not to involuntarily pee when my horse jumps a fence I’m not expecting it.

            I’m not THAT butch.

          • Done that. I mean taken a fence I didn’t mean to. It was a gate actually. Of course I fell off, but my horse also was a huge jumper and really, I wasn’t.

          • Yikes, I can tell this isn’t a euphemism. You horse girls are craaaaazy. (BIG giant out of control beasties). NO! LOL. Just NO!

          • Well, we are a different breed.

          • Thoroughbred… yep… you are!

          • Hahaha! Oh I do wish. 😛

          • Kate G

It does. Most people don’t go from bareback to trotting in two lessons! I go between bareback and English saddle. I’ll be doing my state’s Special Olympics so I think I’ll be in the saddle for the next few lessons.

      • stickfigurefairytales

At first I thought you meant “posting” as in posting comments here.

  • o.O Did any elses comments look like a bunch of Tumblr conversations for a little while? It looked so weird. I had to refresh and open the page agin to see it right xD

    • Yes. Several times today as I tried to avoid working and clicked to TYP… oh the shame…. but YES. I know of what you speak.

  • Spooky!!! NOOOO!!!

*Those flying bottle are making me nervous. But, here’s hoping that this attack will backfire against the baddies.*

  • Kayla Szarkai

    First: AHHH! Nooo!
Second: Got my copy of Artifice Wednesday and it is awesome

    • Yay! So glad you like your copy of Artifice! Thank you for letting me know! 🙂

  • chris walks past the cold ashes of the campfire…

and onto the landing strip, walking up the air-stairs to enter the corporate jet that will take him to las vegas, n e v a d a.

hells! if you’re gonna go to the fights, you might as well get to the mgm grand arena early and get yourself a cocktail and do some betting, because it’s clearly going to be an all out throw-down-drag-out-knock-out in the TYP >< Team Silver fight!

checking the odds, chris is pretty clear that sircea and duncan have the fix in, he heard that don king came out of retirement for Sircea (apparently they had a thing in his youth… ahem) but heck, that's only to be expected.

    • davefragments

Don’t lose all your money in Las Vegas.

      • No I have this perfect system… NO, TRUST ME… IT IS!

See this time we load up on Team Silver… not so much as to feck up the odds, but just enough to make some real seed money for the final chapter! Heh? Heh? Heh?

THEN, during the final chapter, we put it ALL on KYLE TO BURN! We make a fortune (give the Patreon house its cut to keep AW, ADK & VG quiet), and live a life of quiet luxury.

Listen, I’ll even buy a few cases of smores for the next regular camp. It’s a shoe-in.

Good plan huh? And I haven’t even had Saxon run this through his analyzer yet? It’s a SURE thing. (Shhhhhh… see I’ve heard from the TYP-god that this Kyle dude is a bona-frickin’-fide HERO type HERO and we know that AW NEVER changes things up!) It’s in the BAG!

chris sings… “Were in the money, were in the money…”

        • davefragments

          I like that.

        • That this is a reasonable plan is the only reason I’ll forgive betting against Spooky right now. That and that I fully believe Spooky will be oki in the end.
Otherwise I’d slap you silly for suggesting this xD

          • davefragments

If you set a date and time, I’d buy tickets to see you slap Chris in the chops.
            {wink, wink}

          • DFrag… I AM SHOCKED at this violent behavior you are exhibiting. I would never have imagined this dark and violent streak that you…

Oh wait… I’ve read some of your excellent fiction. YEP, kids, DFrag has a dark side, a cool one, but dark. Yep, don’t mess with him.

(Lofty) I shall simply refuse to give the Wolf a reason to do anything so crass as to slap me… NOT THE FACE!

          • davefragments

            spanky, spanky

          • *lol* Good to hear. Now to see if you can keep it up :3

Btw.. speaking of writing. Anything new on the way from you these days? I miss the Monkey and his Tiger, so I started reading chapters of the last story earlier this week.

          • *Vas grabs popcorn and a camcorder.*

            Tsk… Tsk… Tsk… such violent behavior.

          • I know Vas, shocking isn’t it…? and this is such a gentle webcomic. LOL.

          • Delicate like a violet.

          • HA!

          • Did somebody say SLAP?

          • I swear that word is like ‘bratnip’… HA!

          • Of course it is. Why do you think I’m here.

          • I knew I liked you for very good reasons. WELCOME!

Oh btw… heroes here can be gay for no reason at all. Actually they can, AND ARE, women and/or LGBTQ, for no reason at all. Thus, I am a hopeless fan-boy. 🙂

If I left out a letter above, please someone add it in. I’m only half here tonight. LOL.

          • You are preaching to the choir darling.

          • Tyler Griffin

eh, Chris might pay money to get slapped in the chops in the right setting 😉 😛

          • GASP! Speak for yourself Tyler… I never pay for what I can get for free. LOL.

          • For some COMPLETELY unexpected reason I was waiting for an answer like this one. HA!

          • HA! You know me way too well.

          • Tyler Griffin

Unless that was your kink. I’m on to you now!

          • Heeeee… I’m entirely transparent. Clear as glass.
Oh crap, I need to get these window cleaned…

          • davefragments

It might take a power washer.

          • Hush, you!

          • Spooky is wayyyyy too cool to die. If I thought for a minute Spooky (or Mitch, Doki don’t worry) was dead, I’d burn down the internet. So, no worries there. I’m just wallowing in pragmatism. (I’m mean, for god sakes, this isn’t a Liam Neeson film!)

See how good I am? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

          • I never said dying. My mind even refuse to go there, but there’s a lot of bad scenarios short of dying .. but He. Will. Be. Oki. In. The. End *refuses to believe otherwise*
Otherwise I might make it into a Neeson movie … uhm.. *ahem* ^_^

  • Tyler Griffin

Hey ya’ll, I might be here for camp and I might not. My best friend and brother in all but blood graduated from basic training this morning and has this weekend free before he goes back for AIT so me, his wife, and his son are here at a hotel seeing as much of him as possible. He has to be checked back in for the night by 9:00 Eastern Time though, so I may miss it when we go drop him off.

    • We will do our damndest not to envy you and your very cool real-life!!!

GO ENJOY. Our best wishes. My brother is a marine and surviving basic is a HUGE accomplishment. Like HUGE HUGE! Bravo!

      • Tyler Griffin

Thank you! He is quite proud, and so are we

  • Tyler Griffin

Ok, so it looks like I made it back before camp broke after all, woot. Now to call Domino’s and que up the weeks episode of Drag Race.

  • Tyler Griffin

Alright, Mitch is down, Duncan just put a Whammy on Spooks, and I noticed in the background that Kyle appears to have “blinked” in his constant barrage of PP, who seems to still be basking in residual afterglow, anyone wanna place bets on who takes the next hit?

  • Okay… i have to go sideways for a moment and say that I’m sorta a big ARTIFICE geek, and I broke down and got the COVER PRINT, of Wynona Nelson’s painting (oil on canvas) — and I know it’s a print, but her technique still shines through. It’s totally killer. It’s the one of Deacon and and Jeff being separated by a zillion anonymous military dudes. It’s both horrifyingly dystopian and yet so about men-in-love that it kills me.

IT. IS. AWESOME (the detail is amazing).

Okay, so I thought my dude would freak about my geekiosity, because we ARE totally framing this sucker (try and stop me) and hanging it in OUR HOUSE and…

    My man loved it???

He’s all about framing and hanging it. Now, he wants to read the Graphic Novel too. D’Awwwwwwww… okay, he did have an after work cocktail, but still… I’m like a giant gay marshmallow right now. So, someone make sure Alex doesn’t kill anyone precious off in tonight’s page, because I don’t have near enough invective left to go postal tonight. I’m in way too good a mood.

HA! Sorry… I place my trust in you campers… god-speed and good luck! 🙂

    • Tyler Griffin

But, Chris, Didn’t you see the WoG comment below stating that Spooky just broke his neck on that landing???? 😉 😀

      • Tyler Griffin

I should probably know better than to risk speaking things into being like that

      • OMG… you may be evil…?

Speed Dating: HELLO? Hi Tyler, have you met Sircea? She’s an ancient sorceress with a really great body and questionable ethics. You two have 120 seconds… enjoy getting to know each other.

(they either fall madly in love or Tyler is transformed into an animal… of some sort…) 🙂

    • You’re going to geekify him about comics bit by bit 🙂

      • I damn well going to try!!!! LOL. And all your recommendations help me. Thank D-wolf.

    • syllibub

That’s so cool! It’s really a brilliant cover, and I’m glad your dude is into it.

      • It really is cool. I’m so glad also.

It was sorta like that play “ART,” that I saw years ago, with Alan Alda and someone? Anyway it’s all about two best friends. One buys an ALL white painting and proclaims it genius. The other tells him he’s mad and has been taken for a fool. In three acts their entire relationship falls apart because they can’t share an aesthetic. (Sobering)

Trust me, a print won’t break us up, but it was a lovely surprise. I love being reminded that I can’t predict him, even after many years…

        • I haven’t seen “ART.” I almost had opportunities but missed a couple of productions by a week or two.

I love this cover too. In fact, I wasn’t going to by the book at all…until I saw that cover. My jaw just hit the floor. Then when I went to Y-Con last year and officially met Alex, I had to buy that print. It hangs in a place of honor in my bedroom next to the “Hacking” print.

          • IKR? I have art from all over the world. Odd uncoordinated collection that makes me happy so everyone else can ‘stuff-it’, and this is one of ‘those’ pieces. Meaningful in a way I can feel and I’m happy to explain to anyone that asks. And if they don’t get it? FINE! 😛

          • I collect art…very slowly. I buy original pieces that really, really speak to me so only get one every five years or so. I collect yaoi related prints, slowly. And, yeah, uncoordinated too but I love my stuff.

          • That’s me too. Almost exactly. It’s hard because each piece is something special, but not an effort to ‘decorate’ a room. So it might only bring pleasure to me and I have to be just fine with that.

            AND I YAM!!!

          • I remember that. 🙂 (And I’m very glad the print has such a good home.)

        • davefragments

I saw that. The “Art” was painted white on a white canvas. Very Subtle

    • Eland

Congrats on your man’s support. That’s awesome and hearing about his interest is really adorable to imagine. : ) I liked Artifice also, although probably just for Deacon primarily. ; ))

      • YEAH he likes Deacon just fine. I may have warmed him up with the “fridge magnet”. LOL.

    • That is really awesome! I’m glad the print got to you safely and that you like it! And that your man likes it! And wants to read Artifice!

There’s a squishy, romantic part of me that wants you two to be able to share at least one of these comics. Please keep us posted. 🙂

  • I have to go for an hour or so. Need a nap, and since my internet should be down very soon and the next 1-2 hours (for maintenance) then I’ll be back later – hoping I make it back here before the page is up.

  • Tyler Griffin

    it’s soooo. quiet.

    • Quiet, indeed.

I’m debating on ordering some pizza myself. Was supposed to try to do some some stuff tonight (cleaning) but would rather queue up a favorite show or do a Netflix double feature after the page updates. It’s been a tiring week.

      • Do the most relaxing thing. You deserve it.

      • Agreed! Take down time when needed to avoid the burn out! 🙂

      • davefragments

Same here. I need another day of just sleep.

    • stickfigurefairytales

      I’m pretty tired. ^_^;;

      • How can this be… you haven’t threatened anyone with a severe frown or a quiet rebuff yet? Without your iron-fisted control this community will run amuck!!! What will we do?

        • stickfigurefairytales

I could offer a sort of squinty, bleary-eyed look, will that do?

          • Oh indeed. It’s not the act, but the intention. I feel skewered from here. WELL DONE!

Now… off with you and rest! 🙂

  • stickfigurefairytales

I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it very long for camping tonight – I’m really tired, and I’ve got a lot of work to do yet this weekend.

    • We were just talking about how important it is to rest so you can avoid burnout.

Good luck with your presentation, preparing and presenting, Stick!

      • stickfigurefairytales

Aw, thank you so much, Gryph!

        • Rest well, hard working Stick! You, too, deserve it.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Thank you, Chris! 🙂

    • syllibub

I hope you carve out some time to decompress. It seems like it’s been a long week for a lot of people, myself included. But it’s my bday on Sunday, so I’m going to do as little as possible this weekend as my gift to myself!

      • Happy Birthday, Syllibub! Glad to hear you’re going to rest this weekend.

        • syllibub

Thank you! I’ll try to rest enough for all of us, haha.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Ooh, happy birthday in advance! I hope you have a wonderful time!!

        • syllibub

          Thanks Stick!

      • davefragments

        happy birthday

        • syllibub

          Thanks, Dave!

      • I shall begin to to organize the festivities NOW. 100 black crows to be released as the band begins to play. Don’t worry, we’ll do your day right!!! Promise.

        Happy B.

        • syllibub

Beautiful, I’ll leave the preparations in your capable hands!

          • My my my… Sircea insists that she has her own surprise for your Birthday and won’t share. Okay? Well that’s for you two. Good luck. Do share the naughty details if you’re still alive and able.

(I swear those two are made for each other)

Edit: FANFIC was made on the base of so much less. LOL.

          • syllibub

Hmm, terrifying yet intriguing. I’ll report back if possible!

          • Please!

      • Happy (early) Birthday! That sounds divine. 🙂

        • syllibub

          Thank you! It really does.

      • Happy birthday, syllibub! Thank you for being such an awesome member of our community here! Sircea wanted me to send her love. (And some unholy artifacts for you to hold onto for her, but I convinced her to just stick with “love”, since it’s your birthday and all.)

I hope you have a really great day! 🙂

        • syllibub

          Thanks, Alex!

And I really appreciate your intervention — the last piece of weird ancient crap she asked me to “look after” is being a little creepy lately. Weird runes that can’t be seen in the daytime illuminating at midnight, levitating and spinning, a high-pitched buzz…it’s hard to sleep with all that going on. I don’t think I want to expand my collection just yet.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Okay, I’m heading off to bed. Have a great night/morning, everybody! syllibub, I wish you a very happy birthday on Sunday!!

  • Hours Left

    The WHAM is gone. 🙁

    • davefragments

If you look down the comment thread there’s a post where Alex explains why he took it out.

      • Hours Left

I support whatever Alex thinks is best for the comic, but I personally really liked it. 🙁

Now the panel seems a bit off with all that empty space that was originally there to accommodate the sound effect. I thought the scene (with the WHAM) would of made a really cool t-shirt. :/

  • Eland

Oh remembering to camp tonigh’. 🙂 Hope everyone is well. I’ve got drinks and biochemical reactions to commit to memory. Going to get up tomorrow at 6:30AM to play a D&D game, which is my first time really playing, so I’m excited to get going. xD Hello again everyone!

  • Camping and looking at vehicles because sadly I’ll have to replace my poor silver car soon *poor thing*

    • Eland

I know the feeling! My car’s been threatening me lately with angry “service engine soon” lights. I hope you find an excellent deal soon!

      • It’s not that bad yet, but had a good old spring inspection done today and while the bill to fix things on it isn’t that bad yet I’d rather spend that money on a down payment on a newer car. XD

        • Oh I so understand. Mine is lovely and a good girl of 12 years. I’ve kept her well and she’s beautiful, but still…… Her mileage is low, her servicing has been as directed, but I know… time is time…

Someday I will have to accept change….. DON’T WANT TO.

          • Mine is a 15 year old now. Was a write off and fixed (nice when dad is a mechanic!) so she has served her time beautifully. I’m now having the debate of do I ask him to find/fix another car for me or do I get the SUV I really want right now….

          • yeah, I get that dilema….. good luck special starrr…

          • Eland

Wow! I wish my family included a mechanic! So often I’m like, “I hope this is normal/acceptable. :’ )” but am too cheap/poor to get anything done. lol. Congrats for the hook up!

          • Eland

Do I win? Mine’s currently 18 years old. xD Her name is Irene. lol.

I think I get my grandfather’s car once he’s passed though. A bit bittersweet, right? :F

          • Nope, I win. Ours is 19 years old.

          • Eland

            20, 20? Do I hear 20? Anyone for 20? 20? /auctioneervoice

          • I love naming them! Mine is Judy (after Judy Jetson)… oh vehicles…

          • davefragments

I called one of my cars “the great guppy” because it resembled a fish. Chrysler’s Concorde had that big, oval radiator grill on it. IT also had a “mafia trunk” — fit four bodies, no waiting.

    • Sorry to hear about the car tho it sounds like it served you very well.

  • D. Garrett

hi everyone. im not feeling very well today so im just stopping in to say enjoy camping and the new page. bye! *waves

Speaking of “ART” I did see that play. I also saw “RED” that year. That’s a play about Mark Rothko which I found fascinating. The Pittsburgh Public Theater just announced its new season and (no, there’s no “BLUE” play) and one of the plays is “Venus in Furs” which has the line at the bottom of the description — “Don’t bring the kiddies”. . . I wonder if the fishnet stockings or the leather high heels or the whip have anything to do with that?

    • I saw “RED” too. I like Mark Rothko’s work and really enjoyed the play, especially the creative process stuff. That’s funny! “Venus in Furs” played here last year. I wasn’t able to go see it.

      • davefragments

I liked “RED” more because I appreciate abstract art. Back in the 1980’s the MMA in NYC had a Picasso Retrospective and I spent two days going through the entire exhibit. It made me look at art in a different way because I could stand right next to some of those huge Picasso paintings and see the brush strokes.

        • The first time I saw “Starry Night,” also at MOMA in NYC there were only three other people there so I could get super close and see the brush strokes, all that thick paint, the blending, colors. Made me look at art differently too. Made me realize that art truly is magical.

          • davefragments

The gallery that held Guernica was gargantuan. People would stop in the door and stand 20 feet away in awe of it. I spent almost an hour just looking at the parts of Guernica and the back wall was covered in his studies for the painting.
However, I was mere inches from The Ladies of Avignon and not only were brush strokes visible but the scrape marks where Picasso troweled off the paint and re-did it as cubist. Stunning to see that detail.

          • I worked in Paris for a year (many years ago) and, while I lived very close to the Louvre, the place I kept going back to repeatedly was the Musee-d’Orsay. A train station that had been turned into a museum. The collections were always interesting and the size of it was human. At the end, what you are both speaking of (I think) is art that we can touch and feel at our scale of humanity. This museum was exactly that for me. Art at my size. Not scary. Very enlarging. Wonderful.

          • davefragments

The canvas for The Ladies of Avignon was slightly larger than 6ft by 6ft. Guernica is roughly 22 by 11.5 feet — they opened the roof to get it out of the attic where Picasso painted it.
His “construction” monkey wasn’t big just so adorable cute with the little Volkswagen Beatle head. There were 43 galleries starting in the 1900’s and going to roughly 1965.

          • Oh! Someday I will visit Paris and go there (and the Louvre). I get what you’re saying about human size museums. I was at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. for three half days but because I love Medieval and Renaissance art so much I never made it past the 15th and 16th centuries. Too much to see!

          • The Louvre is beyond HUGE, and the the painting of Mona Lisa is actually pretty small *lol*

You can get lost at that place, and compared to the size of it there’s so few toilets, especially above ground in the Louvre itself. Made a whole new definiton of finding an available toilet in time xD

          • I will keep that in mind! Very important info *nods*

          • Unless they’ve changed it since I was there last time in ’08, the few toilets there is above ground are in the end of a floor down around ground level. I say above ground because there’s been build a seperate big , more modern, underground area with shops, art and restaurants along with the subway – only adding to Louvre’s already HUGE place.

Ever going there, I’d advice to take a brochure that shows the place and toilet locations , and go there in good time if you feel like it’s getting time 😉
I can’t even remember now if the toilets on Louvre is for free (think they are) or if they need a 50 cent Euro to access. Many/most public toilets often cost the 50 cent, even in bars/restaurants.

          • I hope to see Guernica some day!

          • davefragments

It’s in Spain at their Picasso museum.
I remember when they moved it.

          • It’s in MADRID! I forgot about that!

I want to go there so bad to see The Prado which houses some of my favorite paintings on the planet! This is how I choose what countries in Europe to visit: I go where I want to see art.

          • davefragments

Guernica was moved to its current permanent location in a purpose-built gallery at the Museo Reina Sofía in 1992
I’m not sure where in Spain that is. . .

          • Def in Madrid. I just double checked. Now I have to there very soon!

          • davefragments

I know that you know it is big but until you see it, you don’t stand the chance of realizing how big.

          • BIIIIIIG!

          • *gets excited*

I hope… *sits primly with hands in lap* I do hope that when I finally see it, we are still camping here on Alex’s website and I’ll be able to tell you that I’ve finally seen it and that you were both right: BIIIIIIIG!

          • Dooooo, you won’t regret it!

          • It is… something that transports one. Lucky you.

  • Just a heads up that Vero is having computer problems, so it’s going to be at least another 30 minutes.

In the meantime, though, I’m about to post a fun Special Digital Reward over at the Patreon page. Just saying… 🙂

    • davefragments

    • Thank you, Alex!

    • The Annihilator Full Monty Pin-Up is now posted on my Patreon page under Creations as a Special Digital Reward.

I’m very curious to hear what folks think about this one. 🙂

      • WOW…. O____O *drops dead from too hot Duncan*

      • O.O Hooooweee!

      • *hyperventilates!*

      • Oh good lord… (breath, breath). That is well… yes… I begin to understand more about Kyle’s issue. I think it may not have been the Montrachet and the rose petals after all……. 😉

      • jreed3842

*is jealous* Lol…Even though Duncan made me very mad for using Kyle…. I still wanna…. err…. admire him. Haha!

      • davefragments

Very good. The detail on the portrait is excellent. He looks so different in that. The full monty is very nice too. I would definitely take up residence with him for a few weeks.

      • fujoshifanatic

That was some premium man candy you just served up on Patreon, Alex. Kyle never had a chance against that, fully clothed or not.

    • Sapfo

      Thank you Alex!
I think you might have to help som of the fans, who might have fallen, due to some strange fainting sickness going on right now 😉

      • davefragments

        • Sapfo

I dont think I can blame it on DST. It will not happen until the end of this month. Maybe something else, but I can not tell what it might be o.O

          • davefragments

Last weekend was my DST change. I thought I survived it but I’ve been sleeping too late and getting up late all week.

          • Wait… I can blame this one something other than severe hotness in an evil dude? WHAT? Tell me, tell me?

          • Sapfo

Is the world turining. It might be going to fast for you. It is after all spinning at the speed of a 107,200 km / h. You could blame that

          • DONE!

          • Sapfo

Then you better find someone to hug. Need to be sure you are safe on this planet 🙂

      • *THUMP* ummmmm what? I’m fine.

        • Sapfo

          Yes you are dear Chris.
Now tell me, do you really need a voodoo doll now after this fine, oh so very fine view of Duncan.
I obviously only viewed the SFW image, considering how innocent my eyes are, I do not think I can handle the NSFW. And I never lie….. <.< true story XD

          • Well, of course you can handle NSFW… that was never the issue. Regarding voo-doo dolls???? That will be an open question until we see how our Spooky and Mitch are doing… unless you have joined TEAM SILVER and no longer care about our young lads.

So innocent our strawberry… how she hath fallen. 😛

          • Sapfo

I am a Spooky person at heart (maybe with a bit of room for others, lot of others). Duncan is all yours. You might do with him as you please. Take good care of him.

          • Bite your tongue… I love Spooky even if he chooses someone without a penis. I’ll suffer in silence (NOT) it’s what we gays do, after all.

(well that was a big fat lie … LOL)

          • Sapfo

Dont you worry dear Chris. I do have high hopes that Spooky is an open minded kind of guy 😀

as long as he likes strawberries. Oh that is a good question, Alex, do Spooky love strawberries?

(absolutely no self-interest in this matter. Non at all!)

          • You can take Spooky… I’ll go comfort Amanda 😉 *purrs*

          • Sapfo

            But, Amanda o.o

Starr, would you and Amanda like to join Spooky boy and me? Got a big bed 😀

          • Me too!???

          • Sapfo

            I better get a bigger bed 😀
            Who else?

          • *slides CATWS into the player* there now we can all cuddle while staring at Steve and Bucky… ^___^

          • Sapfo

I like the way your mind works little kitten 😀

          • Hah!

*curls up with good, cuddly friends, completely happy*

          • Mmmm. Now you’re talking…

          • fujoshifanatic

Why can’t we comfort them both? Seems like that would not be unwelcome….

    • Stubbylegs

      Hooray for penis!

    • LOL.. I of course fanned over it for a while. Then I went to check out Rum’s other art and scrolled down, only to find a gif in the middle of all the sexiness – showing a cow with a long blond wig that blowed in the wind.. and I just lost it.
It might not even be that funny, but it was just so unexpected ;D

  • jreed3842

Well… I guess I can camp tonight. I had to call off work tonight because I got super sick… I’m feeling a bit better now! I haven’t thrown up in about 3 hours. So I just had something light and I’ll see if I can keep thay down!
I hope everyone else is having a good night!

    • Hope you feel better soon! Some folks at work had the same thing last week. So miserable!

      • jreed3842

Thanks for the well wishes, Gryphongirl!
Yeah… it totally sucks. My roommate had something similar earlier this week… So I think I caught what she had. -.-

    • Hope you feel better now.

      • jreed3842

        I’m feeling a bit better now… I hope I stay that way!

  • I’m sorry anyone who would blame Kyle EVER for falling for THAT man… is insane. He is way to hot to be human. Damn Duncan… I feel so shallow that your hot image is making me weak like this. Damn you Rum-Locker for being so darn talented!

    • Sapfo

Dont feel bad. It is a image of a hot naked man, and for a moment you might forget the bad things done by him. He have this sawy of the hip when he moves and a cocky smile on his face. He knows he is bad and he is so good at it.
I say, enjoy some good hunk of man for a moment. It is not bad for you. But then go back to the drama of the story. 😀

      • You are the best!

        • Sapfo

So are you Chris. Maybe you should duck. Lot´s of hugs your way comming 😉

    • I forced myself to read all the text before clicking the image. That was quite hard, here minutes after waking up.

  • Hours Left

The Annihilator pinup is INCREDIBLE. And the fact that one of my new favorite artists, PockyRumz (Rum-Locker) created it makes me so happy. Wonderful collaboration!!!

    • It. Is. Awesome.

      • Klaus

To take a comic book character and turn him into a photorealistic painting, leaving no room for doubt that this is the same man. That is amazing.

  • Sapfo

Well good people, life is calling and it seems to have gotten my name wrong (I´m not caroline? o.O) You all have fun and enjoy the new page.

And Alex, I really need to know. Would Spooky love some strawberries?

    Bye for now ^_^

  • I made it back before the update 🙂
And my nap just included a short dream about TYP that was .. uhm, interesting, to say the least, if not a bit scary.

It was a ‘page’ with I think two panels (maybe it was three but it was a big one below that I remember best) .. and it was like a door opening – could very likely be my dream version of the portal since the edges were glowing a bit.
What showed up behind that door as it was opening? One damn huge eye!
So yup, in my dream the first thing peeking through that opening was George (I think since that’s my first guess when it comes to huge staring eyes).
Now that was enough to wake me up and go ‘Huh!?’ xD

Of all TYP things to dream about and my brain picks George, which we haven’t seen if forever, and not Laampros to be seen behind some weird ‘doorway’ – or how my dream build up the ‘page’.

(Or maybe it was a strange version of my brain feeling that our W.O.G, Alex, could see I wasn’t back and camping LOL)

  • Adam Black

    late night

    • YUP! Howdy!

      • Adam Black

        into brazilians?

        • Sure… once or twice maybe… but not in quite a few years… Why do you ask?

          • Adam Black

I had these dream about sexy Brazilian half-brothers who go at it like wild dogs ( OK More like loving, tame puppies ) ..

( WHAT just once or twice? Easily 8/10 of the handsomest guys Ive eve been with were Brazilian. Almost to the one they are naturally tan, warm, friendly and open personalities, gregarious, sensitive, huge UC … Basically golden gods. No I dont have a type )

          • Everything you say is true. And by “once or twice” I’m avoiding the slut-worthy truth. 🙂

          • Adam Black

So you are saying I should google “Dangerfield At Carnivale: Pogosticking on the Slutwagon” ?

          • Adam Black

So anyways, My dream wasnt actually made up,
it was about a movie I saw on youtube prior ( last year)
So if you are into sexy braziallian men you can go watch it

  • heh, I passed out on the couch again after dinner. I will eventually get back on a normalish sleeping pattern….I hope….

    • Adam Black

something similar here, but I really have no hope

      • Awwwww *hugs*

        • Bad sleep sux the big one… and not in the good way!!! Sorry guys… I have that too… sometimes.

        • Adam Black

          *Hugs back*

I do have ambien tho, since it was delivered while I was sleeping. But i just slept 10 hours.

ive never tried it. I expect to be sleepwalking and doing weird shit on it soon.

  • Gee $398 until the next HIGHLY Woot-Worthy milestone is made… this is the ultimate fandom. Me likes. Thanks cool people.

    • jreed3842

I cannot wait until I cane become a Patreon! It’s gonna happen one of these days!

      • It’s pretty fun… actually it’s the most fun you can get for $3 a month. DANG! 🙂 Look forward to your joining when you can!

        • jreed3842

Me too! Lol. Hopefully it can happen before naked Anni goes away… but I dunno if that’ll happen. I can always dream though! Haha!

          • Klaus

It would be such a waste if the picture was gone forever after 60 days. I hope that Alex will makie it available somehow. Most likely it will not be soon, though.

  • Just got the art. Page up in a few minutes! 🙂

    • Adam Black

You should write a camping Meta-comic.
You can use our posts. “Just got the Art” or “Cookies in the oven” could be its title.

  • 200+ comments this camping and counting

The sun will rise tomorrow. Tonight I sleep.

    • Night and sweet dreams!

    • Give it a few mnutes, page on the way.

      • davefragments

        zzzzzzz happened in two minutes

    • Adam Black

technically the sun doesnt really rise.
the earth falls. and Its always falling….. Its enough to make a person nauseous.

      • davefragments

Regardless, when the eyes close, I sleep. It’s been a tough week.

  • Gregory In Seattle

And all those bottled spells go crash….

  • Kabbalist

Ouch! That looks like a two or three point landing. All those potions bouncing around could be a real hazard to someone’s health! I can’t help wondering if collecting the bottles would help The Annihilator improve his high score, rather like certain video game characters who knock the coins/rings out of their enemies.
