The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 102

326 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter Three—Page 102

Temper, temper…

YOU DID IT!

We’re now at $3169/month with 344 Patrons over at the Patreon Page! That means that the third Milestone Goal at $3000/month was triggered and The Young Protectors IS NOW OFFICIALLY A TWICE-WEEKLY COMIC! WOO HOO! You all are TOTAL ROCK STARS! Thank you all so, so much!

And because of the previously hit Milestone Goals, Patrons now get a behind-the-scenes look at Adam’s penciled page along with the regular comic update, and are currently receiving the Safe-for-Work Digital Kickstarter Rewards as Special Digital Rewards every Wednesday (last Wednesday was a full-color team action pin-up wallpaper called “Save the Night”.) That’s in addition to the Sneak Preview Sunday updates, where they got to see shirtless pin-ups of Fluke, and Flyboy, and just this Sunday got to see our buddy Spooky in just his boxers! (And people who become Patrons now and choose to receive the Special Digital Rewards will get to see all the art that’s been posted so far — so if you’re a Fluke, Flyboy, or Spooky fan or want to download the full-color Save the Night wallpaper, you won’t miss out!)

But wait, there’s more! More Milestone Goals, that is!

After sending out a survey to Patrons this weekend, I’ve changed up the Milestone Goals to better match what folks want. Here’s what’s coming up:

– Just $331/month away (at $3500/month), I’ll send out a Patron-Exclusive colorful wallpaper of The Young Protectors team, drawn anime-style

– Just $831/month away (at $4000/month), I’ll start sending out the NSFW, Full Monty Digital Kickstarter Rewards as Special Digital Rewards. I’ll also be including some NSFW Sneak Peek Sundays, so even the current Kickstarter backers will benefit from this

– And finally, at $4500/month, I will make the single most asked-for change to this Web site: I’ll create a bookmarkable link to the Most Current Page of The Young Protectors. It will take some work, but I’ve done research and I’m now convinced I can make this happen with my webcomic software. Y’all have wanted this since the early days of Artifice. If we hit this goal, you will have it!

There are lots of great benefits to being a Patron, over 300 of your fellow readers have joined in the last couple weeks, and you’d really be helping me out if you became one too. If you’re enjoying our work here and would like to see it continue (and would like to get access to all kinds of special benefits!),

please take a moment to watch the video on my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron. 🙂

Oh, and…

***THIS IS A BONUS PAGE!***

Our eighty-first bonus page in a row AND OUR LAST BONUS PAGE EVER! (But that’s OK, because thanks to the Patrons, this comic has now officially become a twice-weekly comic!)

I want to send out superhero-strength hugs to everyone who ever contributed to the Donation Bar and made these Bonus Pages possible. Every creator has ups and downs, and your continual support has been a HUGE morale boost for me, Adam, and Vero, and has contributed to my ability to make these comics and tell these stories in a major and real way. I sometimes have a hard time believing that folks really will like my work, and without you, I would have doubted myself a lot more and taken a lot fewer risks, some of which have become your favorite moments in this story. Without you, I would never have started The Young Protectors at all, which involved hiring two artists who work professionally for Marvel and DC, something I couldn’t afford without your help. And without you, I wouldn’t have thought a Kickstarter, let alone a successful Patreon campaign, would be possible. You have made The Young Protectors into the comic it is today. I might have retired the Donation Bar below, but you’ll always be very special to me and dear to my heart. And I hope you can take some pride in knowing that you made all this possible. Thank you all so much! You really do ROCK!

And, as before, I also want to send out very warm thank yous out to all the new Patrons who have joined in the last few days. As you can see in the comments below, a bunch more folks have had a blue, silver, or gold YP badge added to their Disqus avatars, which means they are a Patron. If you see one of these folks, please join me in extending my thanks for directly supporting the making of this comic! And please also send out a special thanks to those exceptionally generous backers who are on the Leaderboard of Awesome page. You all ROCK!

So! Looks like The Young Protectors have control of the field, The Platinum Priestess is getting a little exercise, and with that last panel, syllibub now has a great new portrait of her wife for the mantelpiece. Will The Platinum Priestess, in fact, destroy them all?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

If you particularly enjoy any of these pages and use Facebook, please click the Like button on that page. It’s useful to know what’s working and it helps me get the word out!
  • davefragments

The Platinum Priestess is really angry. I mean Angry, Like fire-breathing hell angry.

    • D. Garrett

      she is scary! whoa!

    • She’s pulled out the double bubble.

      • D. Garrett

        lol

  • syllibub

    Now we’re getting to it!

    • And so flexible too… do you think she was an evil cheerleader?

      • I thought being evil was a requirement for being a cheerleader?

        • Lillihandra

I’ve met one good one, but she seemed really out of place.

  • DC

    PP strikes back!

  • Eeeek!

  • Oh damn. Shit is about to hit the fan.

(I checked right on time ^_^)

  • Mitch ^_^

  • I think Sircea has just about had it.

    • syllibub

She’s doing an acrobatic fucking pirouette right off the handle.

      • She’s pulling out the gymnastics. Bad sign.

        • syllibub

          Backflip of RAGE!

        • Just imagine the carnage if she starts ribbon dancing.

          • Oh I don’t want to even contemplate that moment.

          • Tyler Griffin

I can handle the ribbon dancing, Just no black lights and glow sticks on strings

          • Well, that means no candy necklaces and face glitter for you, then.

          • Tyler Griffin

Glitter always ends up in all the weirdest places anyhow. Especially given the absurd places my face has ended up before.

      • I know I thought that was a staff of power… it’s actually an acrobatic kung fu stabilizer… damn.

    • Depends on what “it” is.

Me, I’m hoping Spooky can pull of the legendary “Transform Bones to Molten Lead” spell.

  • Lillihandra

You guys and your execution with those expressions… DAMN. You always amaze me.

    • I love what Adam did with The Platinum Priestess with that last panel. Just love it. 🙂

      • syllibub

        Oh, same ♥

        • I was hoping you might. 😉

          • syllibub

So I see! I’m picking out a nice frame for it, no worries.

      • Lillihandra

It always makes the comic more real (for me, at least). You can really feel the characters’ emotions.

  • Jeldenil

That’s a violent game of Quidditch, Priestess.

    • YangYueLan

She would be out in Quidditch. She is off her broom.

      • davefragments

        And her rocker,
        And her meds!

        • Lillihandra

          She is, however, on fire!

          bu-dum-tiss…

          Yeah…

          ^_^

          • Tyler Griffin

            That girl is on FIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-errrrrrrrrrr!

  • anonywolf

Okay – we seriously need to get up to $4500/month …. Do I need to start selling my body so I can contribute enough for this to happen?

    • Yes.

    • strangeangel24601

      How much for a kidney?

      • anonywolf

$262,000 US – But I’ll give you a discount on my appendix.

        • strangeangel24601

Okay, an appendix works just as well for what I have in mind. Throw in a decorative lucite case and you’ve got yourself a deal!

  • D. Garrett

this fight isnt by any means over, but the team is doing really well. sirceas vehemence is telling. would love a peak in her head. not the movie “the cell” type. (too creepy / scary) just the results of a few psych exams.

  • I don’t think she is happy that she is almost out of cape.

    • davefragments

She’s almost out of her top, too.

      • Lillihandra

Nah, it’s proven it’s got magical comic powers where it stays in place.

And speaking as someone familiar with corsets (not the same, but similar issue once you get my size), if they’re shaped right you won’t pop out no matter how much you jump around. However, that doesn’t make them comfortable for horse-back riding.

        • davefragments

I have no experience with corsets and other undergarments like that. Thanks.

          • Lillihandra

It’s cool. There’s a lot you can get away with fashion-wise due to friction physics and the properties of motion.

          • davefragments

I’m more of a pumps, pipe and fluids engineer.
            wink, wink

          • Lillihandra

Hmph. And that is _clearly_ why you wouldn’t be working with the illustrious Madam Goddess Sircea.

          • davefragments

That and I rather like men in bed.

          • Lillihandra

Psh. To each their own lol

          • Ummmmm… I’m with you Dave. And after that last panel… even more. 😉

          • And a little well-placed double stick tape!

          • Lillihandra

Oh geez. Tell me about it. That stuff is like crazy glue for your boobs.

          • Tyler Griffin

I’m sure there is SOMEONE in the forum who could help that, lol.

        • Jeldenil

I think her outfit looks like it’s almost part of her, like she’s some kind of android. It’s such a narrow fit for steel (platinum?) that it’s like part of her skin.

          • davefragments

Metal paint. She’s a robot body holding an aged shriveled brain.

    • D. Garrett

going through water and fire too probably wasnt part of her plans. or all the gymnastics. she probably thinking: “all the best laid plans….”

      • Yeah but her hair still looks really good!

        • D. Garrett

and she has the ultimate hourglass shape. *hmph. jealous.

    • If she doesn’t keep her cape fire-free, she’ll also be out of *hair*.

    • stickfigurefairytales

“Almost out of cape” is an aweome way of putting it.

  • That is just so awesome the way her staff comes out in the last panel. Well that last panel is just awesome. That’s almost Gandalf and “You shall not pass”

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Except evil.

  • Gracious! I think Miss Sircea is out of patience with the young heroes!

But I’d like to acknowledge a mixed bag of wonderful things.

    • The artwork — composition, expression, line-work and color on the magic and the incredible acrobatics Sircea performs are so damn good that I just have to say WOW! THIS IS A STUNNING PAGE.

    • I’d like to acknowledge that if @syllibub:disqus can calm Sircea down to non-lethal levels long enough for some lurve that — you go girl — because that lady may be 6,000 years old, but she’s freaking awesome.

    • I firmly agree with with the @admiraljane:disqus finally articulated “Eeeek!”

    * There are two panels that show Kyle posterior in the best and most athletic possible light leading me to repeat the classic Sally Field quote at the 1984 Academy Awards to @alexwoolfson:disqus: “You like me, you really like me.” And I think you for those fine buttocks!

    • I loved the way Amanda is really using her Mitch eyes-in-the-sky to help position the guys. It may or may not work, but it’s something all commanders in every battle would give their eye teeth for. It’s great to be reminded and see it in use.

    • Bravo team for that final panel. I can FEEL her fury and so I must repeat AJ’s “Eeeeek!”

Thank you so much guys. This is a wonderful page, full of fun and energy. It may not have cured this uncommon bitch of a cold, but it sure didn’t do anything but help improve the week. You guys are the best.

    • Lillihandra

      *patience?

      Sorry, it’s just bugging me…

      • What? You don’t think Sircea ever had any to begin with? LOL.

        • D. Garrett

i believe patients / patience is being reffed here.

          • I know I’m being silly.

I don’t know if it’s an American usage issue, but ‘patience’ is correct when used in the context of “running out of…” (there are lots of sources…)

            http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/run+out+of+patience

‘Patients’ is simply the plural of either a ‘patient’ as in medical or (confusingly) ‘to be patient’. It’s one of those weird words where American usage crosses over the same words sometimes. 🙂

          • D. Garrett

            got it. 🙂

      • No problem, it happens all the time. There are always a few little fixes that I can somehow only see after I push post. So if you have quick fingers… 🙂

    • Ya think?!

    • syllibub

I’m honestly not sure if she has any non-lethal levels…

    • Thank you, Chris, for another really fun play-by-play! (And yikes, you’re still sick? 🙁 I might have to send Spooky over there to give you some special Healing…)

      • Jen Roberts

        I suddenly feel a little under the weather… ^_~

        • Ha!

        • D. Garrett

^^^^*Coughing fit ensues^^^^ alex i have a terribly high fever too.

      • Oh lord… a sudden plague descends upon the ranks of TYP fans everywhere. Well, as ‘ground-zero’ as it were, I think it only correct that Spooky visit me first.

(Thanks Alex, I haven’t had a cold like this in ten years… my recommendation… DON’T GET IT!)

        • Feel better soon, Chris. 🙂

        • davefragments

If it is over a week, check with a doctor.

          • Thanks DONE! It’s just a cold… Baaaaaahhhhhh. But I did buy a new toothbrush as you suggested, and washed absolutely everything.

Now I’m just drinking massive amounts of water and wondering if Tequilla kills germs. LOL.

            Thanks Dave.

          • davefragments

I don’t know about tequila having medicinal properties. . . I have to try a bottle or two of tequila to find out.

            😉

          • Jen Roberts

I had a nasty cold lasted a few weeks a little while back. I hope you didn’t get it from me! ;___; *Oreos & sexy gay boys to help you feel better*

          • …. *BETTER about just about anything EVER! (chris promptly heads to the local porn and oreo emporium)

          • DC

Well you will need something to mix with the lime juice which is good source of vitamin C.

        • stickfigurefairytales

Poor Chris! I hope you get better soon!

        • As someone who had one of those plague colds all through december, I feel with you and hope you get better soon *wants to feed Chris my Mix-in-a-pot dish + serve him loads of camomille or lemon tea*

        • Tyler Griffin

Stay OUT of Alabama with it, please and thanks. I can’t afford to miss work for another few weeks 😛

      • *Big puppy eyes* .. After two colds in two months, and the first one of those plague ones, I could certainly use some of that magical healing touch of Spooky’s. *Sigh* .. I think Spooky’s hands could heal a lot things.

  • I don’t have much time to comment as I leave for work in 2mins (and go out in the cold smowy morning *bleh*) .. But I had to say how happy I am that the comic is staying bi-weekly. I had no doubt it would happen before the bonus pages ran out 😀

Last, the action sequenses and especially PP’s moves and the fire + water on this page is amazing to watch!

  • sigh. Villains (which includes villainesses) are such drama queens.

Notice how she”s not trying to insist that she’s saving the world. No, the first thought that comes to her mind is “killkillkilldestroymaimludicrouscostumekilldestroy”.

  • syllibub

Now that Alex called Sircea my wife in his note, I can officially update my paperwork. I feel like I should get some great tax benefits out of this…

I’m also curious how Duncan will react now that she’s maxing out her homicidal meter with Kyle in the line of fire — will he have that much more incentive to break out of Spooky’s hold, so he can shut this down before someone gets killed?

    • Lillihandra

      Oooo… O.O That would be fun…

    • Have you two discussed the taking of whose last name?

      • Lillihandra

        Goddesses don’t need last names.

        • This is true.

        • Tyler Griffin

However, a tasteful pseudonym when infiltrating a new culture’s Pantheon can be very appropriate

      • See i see Sircea as like Madonna or Cher… she doesn’t need a last name… I’ll ask Cher tho i think she’s old enough to have baby sat Sircea lol

        • D. Garrett

          omg *chuckles

        • Ha!

        • Plot twist Cher shows up and smacks Sircea and says “Snap out of it” then blasts her with magic and calls her a youngin…. meanwhile Flyboy, Kyle and Duncan fanboy out … ahhh a gayboy can dream lol

          • There’s a pending sing-off… I can just feel it! HA!

          • Klaus

New kickstarter: Young Protectors the musical.

          • Lillihandra

Oh please, please let this become a thing.

          • Tyler Griffin

Ladies! The time has now come, for you to… LIPSYNC FOR YOUR LIFE! *thunderclap sound track and stage lights flicking on and off*

      • syllibub

If she has one, she refuses to reveal it, so I guess we’re both sticking with what we’ve got. Fine by me — less confusion.

        • That’s true. I’m all for keeping it simple. Though I suppose one could be called Syllibub Goddesswife.

          • syllibub

It has a nice ring to it!

          • It has a great ring to it.

    • davefragments

I thought about what Duncan would do it she went after both Fire and Water with her staff. Those blasts are quite spectacular.

  • Hours Left

    Yikes. O_O

  • Toli Bera

such disrespect to Grandma PP. Looks like Kyle and Gordon can say goodbye to their bullet-proof christmas sweaters this year.

    • Lillihandra

      Grandma? Really? Geez.

      • Toli Bera

I’ve referred to her as gramma, or aunty through out the comments (especially since she’s a very….mature… lady.)

        • Lillihandra

Fair enough. Still feel like that’s not something you’d want to call her to her face.

(first time I’ve seen you comment, but I usually don’t survive the camp and miss the early comments so that might be why)

          • Toli Bera

well, it depends on how respectful you are about it. also ‘aunty’ is very respectful depending on the culture. also it tied to the ‘bullet proof sweaters’ joke from a few pages back. based on how Spooky layers his clothes.

  • DC

I wonder if PP ever tried out for the Olympics gymnast with ball routine

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQTBYQlQ7yM

    • D. Garrett

is she a vertebrate??? lol. mutants are real. j k. but that was amazing.

  • Jen Roberts

Yay, more panel-bending! Well, not *bending* per se, but water splashing out, Mrs. Syllibub’s staff, etc. Also, dunno why I didn’t think of it before now, but I hope PP’s outfit isn’t prone to rusting if it gets wet.

  • Um, just noticed this… Where are Mitch’s goggles?

    • Ummmm… he’s hovering and not flying at speed, so he’s not going to get bugs in his eyes and thus he took them off to be EVEN cuter?

      Does that work?

      • Seriously? That might work… if bugs were the reason for goggles on aviators in the first place.

I’m not trying to be a pedant (trying very hard to be laid-back about everything, actually), but the reason for goggles is to keep from the tissue of the eyes from a) drying out, b) freezing at colder temperatures, and c) prevent friction form airborn particulates from wearing away at the lens, cornea, etc., of the eye.

        • D. Garrett

maybe his vision is better without them and he takes them off intermittently. so his eyes get some protection from wind.

    • Lillihandra

Mental projection. Doesn’t necessarily have to match the current outfit perfectly. If you’re used to wearing something, you don’t really think about it. I imagine he’s used to the goggles enough when flying now that he doesn’t think about it. The costume, being what it is, would be reminding him regularly about its presence, and is thus included. However, if you’re used to not feeling the wind in your eyes, and now you don’t feel the wind in your eyes, it’s not as remarkable a thing.

    • Klaus

He is wearing them. The glass is just not shown as more transparent than on earlier pages.

      • D. Garrett

its a pretty noticable diff from page 100.

    • Good catch. Vero is asleep right now, but I’ll ask her to fix that. 🙂

      • You’re welcome. Please, don’t wake her on my account. It looks to me like she had a lot of work to do today. (I love the reflection of fire on PP’s staff, btw)

  • AseretZone

Whoa, she is really athletic! Great moves and poses, girl! Looks like she can only go after one at a time, so maybe they should have someone on the other side of her, like behind her?

In other news, Nate is starting to kick. 🙂 Startled me while I was crocheting earlier.

    • Yay for baby kick!

      • AseretZone

Yay! Even if it hurts later, it’s d’aww-inducing right now! XD

        • I was going to add in about you might not be so happy in a few more months, 🙂 but for now yes! d’aww, baby kick!

          • AseretZone

I don’t have a problem with it, if he actually sleeps at night. :p

          • stickfigurefairytales

Yeah, a friend of mine who’s also expecting says her little guy is just starting to move, but he usually does it when she’s in bed at night.

          • AseretZone

Well, so far Nate’s sleeping schedule can be described as “sporadic”. He’s awake when I wake up and awake by the end of the day, with a few quiet moments in-between.

    • That’s exciting, AseretZone! Give him a pat for me. 🙂

      • AseretZone

        I gave him two. XD
So excited to see how this comic is going, when do you think a printed version will be out to buy?

        • Well… I have 7500 gorgeous printed books of TYP V1 in my storage space right now. As soon as all the greeting card art is finished, I will be able to print the four packs of greeting cards the Kickstarter backers get with their books. Once the Kickstarter backers get their books, I’ll be able to make the books available for sale to the general public.

I’m thinking late Spring at this point. 🙂

          • AseretZone

Drat, I was hoping it’d be out by late-March. XD My birthday is the 31st, I was gonna ask for it for my birthday from my husband maybe.
Oh well, it’s still not that long! 🙂

          • rgleon9986

So if we’ve moved since we contributed to the kickstarter, where should we update you so we still get things mailed to us?

          • A survey will be sent out when packages is ready to ship. There you’ll write your current address (where ever you are at that time), so all you have to do is make sure you get the KS notices on email and you’re good 🙂

          • Yep, what Danish said. 🙂 It’s super important that you make sure that you are getting all my Kickstarter updates (I pretty much send them monthly) in your email box, because that will mean you won’t miss the survey when I send that out. If you’re not, then please reach out to KS tech support ASAP. 🙂

  • Lillihandra

Urgh… I have work in the morning. I should go to bed. But the fun people are here. But it’ll be bloody miserable tomorrow if I don’t get sleep. Gods damn it I hate having to be a responsible adult.

Welp, everyone, guess you’ll have to continue the party without me. Catch you all on Saturday.

    • D. Garrett

next time dont let me get so drunk plz!!! have a good night. 🙂

      • Lillihandra

But you’re fun when you think you’ve snuck extra past me and get more than you bargained for…

        • D. Garrett

*chuckles so u used me 4 comedic relief..!? i must return the favor sometime. the cocoa was awesome! *has vague memory of doin the runnin man by the fire with no music playin.

    • Night and see you then!

      • D. Garrett

i sent u an email. get it?

    • I hate it when being a responsible adult gets in the way. Have a goodnight and see you in a couple of days!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      See you then, Lillihandra!

  • Last thought also, before I hit the pillow!

Madam Sircea has a death grip on that magical orb-key. Despite all that’s going on, she is NOT dropping that sucker, which seems to imply its impending use! (I repeat yet again, @admiraljane:disqus ‘s “Eeeeeeeek!”

    That. Is. All.

    • Klaus

      Sleep well.

    • See I am wise!

    • IamM

Despite switching arms twice between panels and rotating her shoulder joint 360 degrees during that backflip.

      • HA! Okay… erm… exactly my point. Now THAT is a death grip. LOL.

        • D. Garrett

she puts football players to shame.

    • Derkins

Yeah she is awful concerned with it. obviously very important to her plans.

  • TwilightDreamer

great action scene 😀 Sircea is done really well in the last panel, her tattered cape looks really effective 🙂

  • Scramble, boys, scramble!! Tsu, stop planting your feet, that last blast was a close call.

On another note, I think Kyle looks a little impressed by Sircea’s back flip.

  • Kate G

Yes, Commander. Right away, Commander. As you wish, Commander. Would you like whipped cream with a cherry on top with that, Commander? #thoughts the YP team probably has during drills for situations like this (when woken up at 4 in the morning.)

PP, I sincerely hope you magicked that top to your chest because if you used fashion tape I predict a horrible wardrobe malfunction will happen.

I mean, look at Kyle’s face in panel 4! Even he is predicting a wardrobe malfunction, supermodel hair moment or not!

And PP really seems to mean it. Look, they have used the RED TEXT BUBBLE OF DOOM. The question is….will she succeed??? *dun dun DUUUUN*

    • Tyler Griffin

I *think* all the substantial parts of her outfit are metal? Although I can’t imagine how that works with boobage? Doesn’t seem like a first choice to me.

      • Kate G

They are metal, but you forget, they don’t connect in the front and boobs…they move. If they don’t want to make an appearance at a bad time, she would have to tape them INSIDE of her metal vest/whatever we are calling it. Otherwise, they will not be paying attention to her face, let’s put it that way.

        • Tyler Griffin

this is true. Maybe the top is enchanted? The Anti Superbowl Slip Spell?
I know that’s sort of my answer for all of her wardrobe choices, hey, if you got the mojo, why not?

          • Kate G

That’s why I said I hope she magicked her top, lol. A Janet Jackson moment would be most awkward, especially with a team full of teenaged boys (well, teenage and young adult) surrounding you. I sometimes wonder if she ever thought about that when making her fashion choices…

          • Tyler Griffin

Well, we know Kyle and Mitch will be unimpressed, lol
Anni just like, “Sirsy, dah-ling. We simply mustn’t keep doing this. All that exposure will positively RUIN your complexion.”

          • Kate G

LOL. Well, I think it would surprise them. It certainly wouldn’t give them anything downstairs, but it’s still like, “WOW, BOOB ALERT! AVERT THINE EYES!!!!” LOL. XD

  • Terri Sutton

Wow Sircea really into showing off her pop culture references. Do it in the middle of a battle is really something else.

    • stickfigurefairytales

Did you mean the Futurama connection with “I will destroy you”?

      • Terri Sutton

Actually I was referring to the shortly lived meme from Mass Effect 1. Every enemy had a couple of barks, and a certain type of female enemy only has one bark that had words and that was what they said.

        • Ha! That’s awesome. Didn’t know that.

Perhaps The Platinum Priestess’s red balloons are so powerful they are able to extend through time and space to enter the minds of game developers in our past?

        • stickfigurefairytales

          I see. Nifty!

  • somebody

That happens if you burn a woman’s clothes…. poor guys, if now one of the heels break, they are fucked up
at least her underwear seams to be metal… wait.. metal underwear plus really hot flamy fire? omg…

  • Rhiannon D’Averc

This is my first update as a reader – just got through the whole of the comic on Monday. I am seriously enjoying it so far. Aaaand I went and read all of Artifice yesterday to fill in the time between updates XD Now I’m not sure I can wait til Saturday!

    • Welcome to the fandom Rhiannon! 🙂

You’re in very good company. The wait in between updates has many of us going stir-crazy. Now that the Patreon reached the milestone goal of twice a week updates, we never have to fret again that we won’t get the second page!

      • Rhiannon D’Averc

I know, looks like I arrived at a good time! Wish I had enough to donate myself, but for now I’m discovering new things to read from the ads around the comic. Super impressed by the community that seems to be here as well. Thanks for the welcome!

        • Welcome, and it’s indeed a great community. Alex does a lot to ensure a friendly forum. Sure, there can be a difference in opinions/debates but real squabbles are rare and far in between 🙂

          • stickfigurefairytales

Friendly and respectful, am I?! You take that back, you insightful and supportive jerk!

          • Rhiannon D’Averc

Thanks, I’m looking forward to getting involved in future updates 🙂

        • As Alex and Danish mentioned we have a very good crowd and always happy to embrace newcomers! Hope to see you around for next page!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Welcome, Rhiannon!

      • Rhiannon D’Averc

        Thank you!

    • Welcome, Rhiannon! Very glad to hear you’re enjoying our comics! And you’re right, the community here is awesome. Just really great, welcoming, warm, thoughtful folks.

I’m curious, how did you find us?

  • john Johnson

I would advise against destroying Kyle. DADDY might not like it!

  • purplefoxglove

How awesome is it that Alex just Word of God-ed the marriage between syllibub and Sircea? Makes me wonder what the PP thinks of her little minion private slave wife? I mean, we know that Spooky frequently gives Alex feedback about his fandom’s silly ideas…the PP would not stand for being married off to anyone without her absolute and complete consent!
Did she monitor sylli’s forum entries? Check out her background? Magically analyse her? Or was it only after the interview that she was smitten by sylli’s persistence and charming character, which prompted Sircea to discretely indicate to Alex she would be interested? How chatty are all the TYP characters towards Alex? Is “towards” in the previous sentence the correct preposition? And should I really be allowed to post stuff at the end of the semester, when all the studying and exams have most likely fried my brain weeks ago?

    • Klaus

The last question I can answer: yes.

    • What makes you think she hasn’t been arranging for syllibub’s birth for centuries?

      • Keneu

Does that turn Sircea into Silibub’s mother-by-proxy?

        • Derkins

          like rocky and dr. frank-n-furter?

        • syllibub

          Nah, just a good strategist!

      • purplefoxglove

That thought both sweet and scary. Okay, definitely more scary. Poor sylli never stood a chance! Now I worry for her future…

      • syllibub

Ha, and they said all those peculiar stellar alignments occurring at the exact time of my birth were a coincidence. I’m flattered and alarmed, which is probably the combination she was going for.

    • I do not want to imagine what kind of skin that pre-nup is bound in, or how much blood it will require for Syllibub to sign that sucker. Ouch. 🙂

      • purplefoxglove

I didn’t think of that before O.o Don’t scare me like that!

      • syllibub

Would it make you feel better if only a little of it had to be my blood, for symbolic purposes? The rest was, ah…donated.

        • Infinitely better. You could register with all the local blood banks for your wedding gifts… just like Macy’s… Then all your well wishers, zombies, revenants, and other assorted donators can contribute in advance. Rather like a Patreon campaign, but bloooooooood!

Oh, I feel so much better about this wedding already!

          • syllibub

You can’t argue that we don’t have a solid theme in mind!

        • That’s the spirit. She chose well. 🙂

    • Derkins

apparently “toward” is more american and “towards” is more british, oddly enough. i think that word works in this context just fine. could also use “with,” I guess?

      • purplefoxglove

        Thank you ^^

    • syllibub

I imagine that if she had any objection to our cosmically pre-ordained union, I’d be a decorative book binding by now.

I’d like to see a log of all the conversations between Alex and his characters!

      • purplefoxglove

Now, that would make a great extra in one of the TYP books!

  • For a 6000 year old middleaged woman PP’s atheltic skills are superb, and looking at panel 1 ..woooh-wee, she got a great booty! (I’m not even gonna mention her legs as Silly might give me the evil look).

The guys might look mighty hot in spandex, but PP really is rocking her silver hipsters 🙂

    • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

She could teach the Seahawks a thing or two about hanging onto a ball.

      • Tyler Griffin

well, you know, when the balls are so nice, you just gotta keep your hands on ’em

  • Because of Doki, I remembered a reference I was gonna post on the previous page with PP, but never got around to it.

Seeing the burned cape, I wanted to say: ‘Platinum Priestess, you’re almost out of cape (uniform)’.

  • We still don’t see him. How can I be the only one who is suspicious of Anni right now?
I’m watching you Alex. *glare* I know your tricks.

  • Pikinanou

Last time I stretched my leg like that, I greatly regretted it. Took me almost a month to get better XD

    • Tyler Griffin

Maybe that’s what this is all REALLY about. She’s actually hacked off that she go snubbed as the lead in Swan Lake just because the other girl was a paltry 4,000 years old.

  • stickfigurefairytales

I love the water and fire art and colors so, so much.

  • fujoshifanatic

The art on this page…the linework, the coloring…just superb! Adam and Vera really outdid themselves this week! And the last panel! What a fantastic wallpaper that would make! And oh no, you know things are going to get hectic once the red speech balloons come out!

Congrats on your continuing Patreon success Alex! I’m glad you tweaked the Milestone rewards. I think they will resonate with the fans much better, and hopefully convince more of them to become patrons. 🙂

    • Klaus

And oh no, you know things are going to get hectic once the red speech balloons come out!
      Indeed: http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/archive/ete-int1-page-13/

    • Thank you, fujoshifanatic!

And I’m glad you think I made the right choice with those Milestone Goals. One sign was that i wasn’t all that excited about the old ones, and the readers helped me out by confirming very clearly in the survey that they shared that feeling. I think these new Goals will be more fun for everyone. 🙂

      (And yes…. the red speech balloons… be afraid… be very afraid… 😉 )

  • Klaus

It would be so much easier for Tsunami to put out the fire in your cape if you would just keep still for a moment.

  • xLizardx

That last panel would make a great reaction or display picture 😀

  • Keneu

It looks like grumpy Tsunami is enjoying himself after all! *gasp*

And geez, I wish I’ll have Sircea and Duncan’s agility when I reach mature age. I know it must be difficult to become weaker if you always had superpowers, but compared to normal humans they’re still better off.

    • Derkins

And what’da’ya know the little “children” haven’t even poked their eye with a stick or anything like that 🙂
I think we can officially rule out the idea that they weren’t ready for this fight.

      • Okay, but in elapsed TYP-time… WHERE IS THE DAMN MILITARY? If they don’t arrive soon, I’m going to have words with The Commander’s mother! (yeah she’d be nervous, lol). They’re just supposed to be delaying things only until backup arrives, and we haven’t seen that clock lately. @alexwoolfson:disqus is being cagey with the countdown here.

Still, I agree, they are moar prepared than we thought, by a good margin. Still, it’s taking a flying overview, a telepath, a fire demon, a water mutant(?), and a hell-sorcerer to simply hold Sircea, Duncan and some poorly dressed minions at bay. They haven’t hurt anything but their pride yet……….

        (i’m being a worry wort aren’t i?)

    • Jeffrey Jacobson

In my early 40s I started doing yoga, because I was injured. Now that I am just about Sircea and Duncan’s age, I can safely say that you can be as flexible as you want to be if you work on it.

Young bodies are stronger and more supple, no doubt about it, but an old fart can have had decades of training and that really counts. I have a desk job, so I am nowhere near their level, but I have seen middle-aged people who are.

      • I’m just glad your voice bubble isn’t surrounded by a red outline and promising doom. I think Yoga might be a good answer for all of them.

(come to think of it, i’m feeling a bit evil. i think i could use some also)

    • Agreed, Tsu looks like he might be rather adorbs if you discovered his ticklish spots.

  • Ellen Harman

Hopefully she only mean Tsunami. I think Kyle’s dad might me a little upset if she destroyed his son. I mean, aren’t demons always after having a half human son to rule the world for them. Since they usually can’t hang around themselves.

    • I don’t know if Sircea is aware of just who Kyle’s father is. She knows he’s part demon but that Laamp is his sire? That’s the million dollar question. 🙂

  • Less than $300 away from the next milestone goal!!

  • Nate

I just hope neither of the boys flunked flank…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqFRzeGYzmk

  • Terytha

I had a dream about this comic last night. That’s never happened to me before. I guess I spend a lot of time thinking about it. xD

    • That’s awesome. What happened?

      • Terytha

I’m a little hazy on the details, but as I recall, the team was giving Kyle some light hearted teasing about his taste in men, and then they all had to go prevent a random super villain from destroying the world with his doomsday device (which may or may not have been inspired by watching too much Gravity Falls).
Then I woke up just as the action started. =P

  • hey.
    darlin’..

    baby

you know we sell Hair Dye in this modern day-and-age.

    you should go try some.
the fellas would love you, Sircea.

    • zunden

As if she cares about these plebeian mortal men and their pathetic demands for a specific, mercurial, and narrowly defined form of beauty.

      • Actually I heard that every time Sircea age regresses, her hair gets dark again… and then Syllibub gets sad… and so Sircea dyes it silver again. Just for her.

        Isn’t that sweet?

Those two… Honestly, if it weren’t for all the diabolical blood and hell-spawn those two go through… I mean on weekends alone. Well, they would be positively schmoopy.

        D’awwwwwwww…

        • (*psst*, Chris, she used to be a blond.. but PP looks good with her silver hair).

          • HA! Real blonde or bottle blonde?

          • Going by that page where we saw her past (and hair color), I’d say a real blonde for sure 😉

        • zunden

          Aw, that is sweet.

      • Yukiness

        I wanna marry your vocabulary

        • zunden

          Oh thanks!

      • have i misunderstood part of the reason duncan and sircea is opening the hell gates?

    • Klaus

      They already do.

    • Ant-Man

Her hair is not grey or white like old ppl hair_ its platinum in color- as her name suggests?

      • never said it was grey

        😉

        • Ant-Man

I know. I was just naming colors of what might be considered old ppl hair. Blue might be another- when older ppl use optical brightener in their white hair, it sometimes takes on a blue-ish tint

  • Derkins

Looking at that last panel, and… well. I never truly noticed how … perky PP is. Time really has been kind to her.

    • Klaus

6000 years and looking half her age.

      • zunden

        ….”half”?

How about like, a tenth? Or a hundredth? Like, the only part of her that really looks older than 35 is her hair….

    • I think she borrowed a Potter spell… erm… Booblifticus Gravitorum. Okay, something like that, but be careful, I don’t wont people’s boobs being hurled into space because my spell technique is poor. 🙂

      • Derkins

yeah that’d be a delicate balance between amazing bra-free potential and utter disaster.

      • Yukiness

As a Hufflepuff I can confirm that that is a real spell.

      • Adam Black

Wait Ive got a new Hollywood Business plan for you

  • I just noticed how much more… approachable? Tsu looks when his tattoos are glowing. The blackwork does nothing for him, makes him look like he’s scowling or … arrogant?

IMO he’s much nicer looking when his tattoos are glowing. I’d kiss him. When the tattoos are black? Wouldn’t even rate a conversation (and this coming from a big tattoo fan).

    • Tyler Griffin

He definitely works that intimidation factor, doesn’t he.

  • Jinxbrand

Does anyone know how long the patreon thing will be ongoing for? As in there limit to signing up for it.
To be honest, I got laid off this past week when I was going to subscribe haha.. so now I’m waiting for something else to come along before committing.
(Graphic designer here, anyone need a freelancer send me a message! jinxbrand@hotmail.com)

    • Tyler Griffin

I was pretty sure that it’s open ended as far as joining

    • Klaus

You can join, quit, increase or decrease your pledge at any time.

    • Like Klaus said, you can join at anytime, there is no time limit. 🙂

    • Yep, like the others said, it’ll be there whenever you’re ready. 🙂

  • bronakopdin

uhhhh…. seems PP is getting really pissed there >_>’
I read this page just now (I’m visiting my sister) and my 13 year old nephew came to me and asked me what is going on there (he can’t understand any Englsh yet) and truthful I told it’s a comic of young superheroes who are into a major fight and and their commander is giving help and directions on how to do things and he was just like “ah that’s just how Martin is with us in Teamspeak when we’re playing online” xD

yeah Commander has her own Teaspeak channel!
Maybe I should try to log in, more live action ^^

    • LOL! That’s awesome!

(And Commander would be very amused to hear her powers being compared to playing a video game.)

      • Amanda is probably checking to see if her voice has been licensed for commercial use. You can’t outfit and equip a team of growing super boys on a government budget… we all know that. I’m sure she has all kinds of smart ways to make super ends meet. 🙂

      • bronakopdin

        I’m smelling the irony xD

  • Jeffrey Jacobson

    Great page, as usual.
I noticed that neither Sircea nor the boys badgering her landed yet.

  • Saikkusukka

PP is really moving fantastically. I love the flow of the drawings, I can really see the movement.
Also, this has been going on WAY too smoothly. Something has to go wrong soon.

  • Sapfo

Been a few days since this page was up and I been thinking that if Kyle and Gordan put their powers together they would produce Steam…..Heat! 😀

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1YHL2E2sR4

  • *crais* the anticipation is killing me!

  • Megan Staples

You, Adam and Vero are the greatest team!
Looks like someone should make PP (ha ha) let go of that pointy thing in her hand (sneeerk) and make her behave.
    I can be a real stinker…

    • Thank you, Megan! 🙂

      • Megan Staples

        You’re welcome, dahlin’.

  • Heeee! Less than $250 to the next milestone!!!!

  • If I am not here to camp tomorrow night, someone find me on twitter and yell at me.

    • Adam Black

      Hey!

  • Yukiness

The worst thing you can do to a villainess/heroin is to fuck up their fashion. Somebody burned her super fly cape and now that somebody is in deep shit.

  • xLizardx

OK, a bit off topic, but what an awesome email! I loved Alex’s latest newsletter – the quote, and his musings on it are very thought provoking [not to mention, since I do post music online, I know the feeling of receiving non-constructive criticism].

Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂

    • I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed that. Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know! 🙂

  • Alt+F7

Platinum Priestess’s glare is *not* a look i want to be on the recieveing end of. Good luck boys… you’ll need it.

    • davefragments

I think someone told her to “calm down, darling” and she took it the wrong way. Or, perhaps a minion inadvertently said that she was a little bit “bossy” and that put her off her feed, like sour milk or waking up on the wrong side of the bed or having a “bad-hair” day.
      wink, wink.

  • I like how the last panel kinda made PP’s staff a main ‘character’ on the page. It became a big presence and impossible to miss.

It really entered the scene. I don’t like it when it makes a notice of itself. It’s not good when it comes to play, and now it just did big time.
Uh-oh.. what will next page bring?

  • There will be an early update tonight.

  • davefragments

Rats. I got to this page first and tonight, I might be late getting to the camp. It’s simple thing, nothing serious. I had company and they rotisseried a chicken and my countertop oven left a giant grease pool all over the counter. I’ve just finished cleaning it all and I have terribly dishpan hands — dry, itchy, cracky, oh the horror, the horrors of it all. The only thing I have that even resembles lotion is hand sanitizer. pity me, pity me. . .
wink, wink (or in this case — sink, sink)

    • Sorry you don’t have any hand lotion/cream to relieve those dry hands, Dave! Sounds like it was a great meal, if messy.

      • davefragments

It did turn out well but it took me a day to clean.

    • That’s awful, my sympathies. If you have some olive or coconut oil, that’ll work in a pinch.

      • davefragments

Thanks. . . It isn’t the worst things my hands have ever been in and I won’t explain that.

  • In for camping. Been sick all week. Was feeling a tiny bit better and almost went to work but I realized this is the point where I always go back to work and I always relapse so stayed put.

Seems a bit quiet now so I’m going to get something to eat. brb

    • *hugs and cuddles*

      • Thanks! Sitting here with my chicken soup and buttered toast. I just need to refresh my tea.

  • Ahhh, the neighbor is drunk again and singing at the top of his lungs. It sounds like La Bamba.

    • SofiaT

      At least it’s not Lambada!

      • He’s usually singing stuff from classic radio, so there is that.

    • Bamba, bamba, bamba! BAMBA, bamba!

    • syllibub

LOL! ~Para bailar la bamba…se necessita una poca de gracia~

    • davefragments

      Richie Havens La Bamba?
That’s not a melodic song for a bad voice.

  • DC
  • Darkanimefox

The Platinum Priestess’ line made me giggle because I was playing Mass Effect earlier and that is something Jack likes to say when fighting.

  • Kabbalist

To start with: I told myself that I’d wait until I’d reached the end of the archive to join in on the Patreon, but I said “to heck with it” and joined up anyway. Yay!

Now, on to the page: The special effects, expressions, body language, and movement have all been spot-on in this section so far, and I’m extremely impressed. I believe the action on this page answers the question of whether the Platinum Priestess has had dance lessons…or maybe gymnastics? Figures that she can find a way to dodge while still looking like a lady. Somehow I can imagine a phantom narrator saying “and she stuck the landing!” as several cultists break away from the melee to hold up slightly battered score cards. In other news…red speech bubble! Duck, guys!

    • Thank you very much for your Patreon support, Kabbalist! It’s very much appreciated! You rock! 🙂

      • Kabbalist

        I try my best. 😉
