The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Bonus Comic One—Page 1

608 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Bonus Comic One—Page 1

As mentioned previously, I’ll be pausing the main story and temporarily posting up the pages for the Spooky/Commander Bonus Comic! Enjoy! 🙂

So, welcome to the first page of the Spooky/Commander Bonus Comic! It’s six years in the past, The Young Protectors hasn’t been formed yet and Commander is not quite yet Commander. Ideally, you’d all have read this comic before you read Chapter Two (this Bonus Comic will be included in The Young Protectors‘s first book—Engaging The Enemy: Volume One!), but hopefully even reading it out of order will provide a bit of fun and illumination for y’all.

Oh and…

***THIS IS A BONUS PAGE!***

Our thirty-fifth bonus page in a row! And in between the last two pages, your amazingly generous contributions to the donation bar below TRIGGERED YET ANOTHER BONUS PAGE!

That means that in addition to our regular Saturday updates, and bonus pages on Wednesday, March 19th (page 3 of the Bonus Comic!), Wednesday, March 26th (page 5!), Wednesday, April 2nd (page 7!), Wednesday, April 9th (page 9!), Wednesday, April 16th (page 11!), and Wednesday, April 23rd (page 13!), there will now be an additional bonus page (page 15!) scheduled for Wednesday, April 30th! You are such incredible SUPER-HEROES!

Special thanks go out to long-time supporters David N. & Marcos N. (both making their second generous donations to The Young Protectors!), Marianne L. (who makes their seventh generous donation to The Young Protectors!), & Silke K. (who makes their eighth generous donation to The Young Protectors!), and a warm welcome and grateful bow go out to new supporters James B., Christian W., Susan R. & George C. for their generous donations over the last few days!

Big hugs go out to long-time friend of The Young Protectors Kayleigh H. for their super-generous $25 donation! And this makes Kayleigh’s third super-generous donation to this comic!

And finally, ZOMG! very, very grateful hugs and deeply humbled bows go out to new mega-friend of The Young Protectors Rick C. for their stunningly generous $113 donation and also to long-time mega-friend Christopher D. for their jaw-droppingly generous $200 donation! And this makes Christopher’s fifty-first jaw-droppingly generous donation to this comic! Thank you so, so much, you two! You both are OUT OF THIS WORLD AWESOME! 😀

Thank you all so much for your generous support!

So! As you can see we’re starting in a police station, but our next destination is the morgue. (In our world, they no longer keep morgues in U.S. police stations, but in my world, they’ve kept the custom. Because, let’s face it, that’s just cooler.) What do you think we’ll find behind door number one?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there!

  • Velkommen til en helt ny historie!

    • Jaaa 🙂

    • So that is where Chris was hiding….

    • WHOA! Doki and I said you were lurking around!!!

      Chris is a sneak!

    • Sneak!

      • Elrohir

Tricksey Dangerfield! What has it got in its pocketses we wonders? A TARDIS precious? A TARDIS to go back in time once it knows the page is there? SNEAK!
Or just really, really well done Chris. Congrats!
**But what HAS it got in its pocketses precious?**

    • Damn me for accidently refreshing the tab (pae 31) before clicking the link *LOL* Those extra 5 secs.
But sneaky Chris came from the back and crossed the finishline first, and with that I now tun for the bus!

      • b3nc0

        Run, Danish! Run!

      • Sapfo

        Tun Danish Tun!

    • Sapfo

Japp, en helt ny historia. Det är det.

    • Klaus

      Tak.

    • Sapfo

      Sneaky Chris 😉

  • And so it begins.. I’ve looked forward to this 😀

  • Sapfo

    Why worry
There should be laughter after pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same

    • Elrohir

Really like those lines. Haven’t heard that specific one before and saving it in my “to be remembered file”.

  • SofiaT

I’m going to really like this!

  • stickfigurefairytales

Is that younger Amanda in the white shirt?

    • SofiaT

I thought it was the lieutenant colonel… :0/

      • stickfigurefairytales

That was my first thought too, but then I saw the young lady in the white shirt and I wasn’t sure all of a sudden.

        • SofiaT

You could be right -the age would match more, I guess.
How old is Amanda in present time??

          • Commander is 22 in present time. 🙂

          • SofiaT

            Aha!
            So, NOT the Lieutenant Colonel.

            Thanks, Alex! :0)

          • Is the Lt. Colonel her mother then I wonder?

        • SofiaT

The question now of course is, if that *is* Amanda, what is a 16yo girl doing at what seems to be a classified investigation??

          • Sapfo

            Speaking lady is mom?

          • That’s what I was wondering. 🙂

          • IamM

            Sixteen year old telepath.
            Paranormal investigation.

    • jreed3842

      That was my first thought.

    • bronakopdin

I was thinking the same, too 😀

  • Sapfo

Why do I get the feeling that Mr. Jones have been a bad boy?

    • SofiaT

Well, 6 years ago he was 14… Fresh out of hell. He could have caused some of it on Earth.

      • Sapfo

        Thats my thoughts also.

    • bronakopdin

because Alex want’s you to ^^

  • jreed3842

    😀 How exciting!!

  • b3nc0

‘Remains’ got me a tad worried here?

    • bronakopdin

yep, I’m really uncomfortable with the term, yet curious what is to come, let’s see what will be in there

  • Saxon_Brenton

So, the YP universe retains one of its societal function because it’s cool? Okay. It’s a four-colour superhero class universe, so the Rule of Cool is to be expected.

  • Thank you Alex for a step sidewise into a new adventure. And major thanks to Adam and Veronica for a whole new world view. I hope it as much fun for you three, as it’s going to be for us.

  • Toli Bera

Wow she looks s billie-badass in her uniform!

  • Sapfo

    Amanda looks so young.
I can hardly see her futur self. But then she have not said anything yet. We all know that there is a fire to light in her. And we know that she is going to do great things.
But how was she 6 years ago? Why is she here in this scene?

(Am I right to think that the speaking lady is not Amanda, but the young looking women in white shirt?)

    • stickfigurefairytales

      I believe you are right.

    • Klaus

Amanda would be much too young to be a lt. colonel six years ago. Actually, she is too young to be a lt. colonel/commander now.

  • CH

She (assuming that’s Amanda) looks like she really doesn’t want to be there. It makes me wonder in what capacity she’s found herself with this little group.

    • Saxon_Brenton

I’m not sure about that. She’s had her thumbs hooked casually in her jeans pocket the whole time, so she doesn’t seem to be nervously fidgetting. To me it looks like she’s interested in the discussion but only as an observer. I think we’ll need more information on her dispostition, as opposed to the dialog between the other character that hints at jockeying for jurisdiction.

      • CH

I’m mostly referring to the facial expression in the final panel, which now that I think on it could just be reluctance to enter the morgue, but it still begs the question: Why are we bringing a 16 year old to the morgue?

        • Klaus

They need a telepath. Not for the corpse, obviously. Do they suspect a traitor among the police officers?

          • CH

I had honestly forgotten that was her power, but her working for the pentagon in such a capacity makes sense. Good call.

        • Wait, I think i forgot/missed something. How do we know she’s 16? That would make her 22/23 years old now.

          • Klaus

            Scroll down a bit.

          • Sapfo

Alex said so earlier on this page. Look down. Look down. You should see a people rise….

          • CH

Alex replied to an earlier comment that in the “present” she is 22 which makes her 16 here.

    • Klaus

She looks very relaxed to me. Certainly not freightened. Could be a bit bored.

      • IamM

I thought she might be skimming the detectives’ thoughts for insight into the situation they’ve been sent to look into.

  • strangeangel24601

Looks like Amanda’s following in her mom’s footsteps. Yay for military moms!

  • b3nc0

So, Commander is the white-shirted girl… Was that a bring-your-child-at-work-though-dangerous-or-traumatising-it-may-be day?

  • Adi Zeller

I just love how multi-racial your characters always are, Alex. And that you don’t shrink from putting women in positions of authority.

    • bronakopdin

I think the same, but then it’s just normal! of course they DO have these positions IRL so why not project it in a comic instead of going with sterotypes 🙂
I said it before but I really liked the idea of a red-head main character ^^

      • Elrohir

I couldn’t agree more on the idea of a red-head main character.
**Confesses to having had a “thing” for Maureen O’Hara when he was younger…though her’s was a darker red**

  • Maria White

Guy in the suit: No mam, the remains are in the cafeteria. We got kinda hungry.
Charleyboy: Did you just talk back to me?
    Guy:….Yes mam?
Charleyboy: Good, I need someone with a backbone.

  • b3nc0

So are the Charleboys Cajun, or French-Canadian?

    • Pikinanou

If they were French Canadian, I wouldn’t mind *waves her Québec Flag* 😀

      • b3nc0

Sois donc ben fier de ton Fleurdelisé!

  • Klaus

That is an air force uniform, complete with pilot’s wings. That may not mean much since she is working at the Pentagon. But Amanda’s training was with the navy seals.

“Commander” is the navy equivalent to the other branches’ lt. colonel, BTW.

  • The Wolf’s attempt to make it to work, Part 2.

So.. first it was my bladder, now it’s a broken bus. Ran to the bus and stood there waiting for 10mins for a bus not showing up. 10 mins after it should have left the ‘reserve’ bus came fast the other way. I know what that means. The bus is broken, and the next won’t leave until 15mins from now.
So Instead of standing 20 mins still, in the cold, I walked home and now I have ..9 mins before I leave again xD

9 mins to look at the page 😉

    • *hugs* Poor Danish…..You obviously were not meant to go to work this morning. Did you call them and let them know about the problems?

      • Nah, I’ll just show up. I told them I would be late when I called. Now it’s gonna be an hour. They’ll make it.

    • You’re likely on your way now but I’m still going to wish you good luck on the fly.

      • I made it in my 3rd attempt. Who should have thought that just taking a bus directly to work should turn into such a challenge xD All those times down and up the stairs before I made it.

  • A few theories:
    1) Lieutenant Colonel is Amanda’s mother and she brought her along as a consultant or just to keep an eye on her (Her powers would be still relatively new, but she has had them long enough to have some control over them if not complete, depends on how tricky hers are).

    2) Amanda is actually in the Supers intern program and Lieutenant Colonel is her mentor and they are “incognito”.

    3) Both the above scenarios.

…..Wonder what Lieutenant Colonel thinks of this situation/the officers she is dealing with. I don’t think she thinks too highly of them, as she plays with her phone while talking to them. Like she cannot be bothered to give them her full attention. I could see it as a diversionary tactic, except they are already sticking out….so…..is it Saturday yet?

    • strangeangel24601

It hadn’t occurred to me that the Lieutenant Colonel might not be Amanda’s mother. Of course, my perception is colored by the fact that my own mother was in the Navy, so I saw this and went, “Yay! A military parent in the media who isn’t a dad! I can identify with this!”

As for what she is doing with her phone, I saw it as checking to see if anyone had sent her any new information on the situation.

    • Klaus

She may have rushed there and is now reading her briefing.

  • Simba

Ooh, this I gonna be fun! Character background is always exciting to me. ^^; Also, I’m really excited for this Friday’s camping because it is my birthday! 😀 I am having a little party, but will try to check in and say hullo to you awesome peoples. <3

  • Toli Bera

I wonder if in this prequel we’ll get to see why Tsunami was banned from the Dairy Queen. 😀

    • I don’t think Tsunami is going to be a part of this story since it’s a Spooky/Commander bonus story from before TYP was started.. but who knows 🙂

      • Toli Bera

Never know. he might need to get his vanilla-swirl on, 😛

      • Toli Bera

        True. XD

  • DC

Are the ‘remains’ actually a body? I didn’t think that there would be a body or body parts actually in the police station, there are quite a few cops around in that building for it to be somewhere other than a station, like the morgue. So what are the remains?

    • Klaus

Try reading the second to last paragraph of Alex’ introduction above.

      • DC

Thanks 🙂 I do things back to front sometimes 0.o So can I hope for demon remains maybe? Spooky may have killed/destroyed it as it tried to come with him from hell. Just getting hopeful/excited for the next page already. So can anyone tell me what an exsec agent is?

        • Klaus

Exsec has been mentioned before, but not explained.

          • Librarican

Thank you for that, I sure didn’t catch it the first time. It was kind of fun to read the old comments when we were still debating Anni’s motivations and the bonus pages weren’t taking place with such regularity.

        • Elrohir

Liking the “demon remains” theory here very much! Though Nate’s comment about it being Spooky’s body which didn’t go to hell is interesting. I’m down for it being the body of the demon that took him there and the remains being a little “Spooky Payback” on his way back out.
I don’t know, it just feels like it should be because it would begin to set the world right again. Maybe I just want the payback. Maybe it’s just the Sicilian in me.
**Pondering whether Spooky might be a Lannister on his mother’s side of the family, since it’s well known that “A Lannister always pays his debts.”**

  • Kiki

I’M SO EXCITED. SO SO EXCITED. Wait, so what are the ages again? The only thing I remember is that Flyboy is the baby of the group and Kyle just turned 18. Commander and Spooky are… how old?

    • Takehai

IIRC, Commander is currently 24, Spooky is 20. Which would mean in this comic that they are 18 and 14 respectively. But I’m not positive on Commander’s age, it could be 26. I’m sure someone else could confirm better than I . . .

      • The Commander is 22 in present time. Alex mentioned it further down in the comments. 🙂

        • Klaus

“Present” being as of chapter 3, considering this scene a flashback? Or as of now, in the present scene?

          • I took it to mean as of Ch 3.

          • Klaus

Me too, but I am not quite certain.

          • The girl seems to still have the softer face of someone still in their mid teens. BUT at the same time I always thought the Commander was older than early 20’s.

          • Commander is 22 years old at the time of the events in Chapter 3. 🙂

        • Takehai

Cool. I obviously have come late to the page. Couldn’t sleep so I decided to check out my favorite comic instead.

      • IamM

According to the cast list for this page Commander and Colonel Charleyboy are two different characters so that makes Amanda the girl in the white top.

If Spooky is nineteen or twenty present day, that’s thirteen or fourteen six years ago so they would be meeting just after his return from a hell dimension.

  • bronakopdin

I already like the beginning very much 🙂 and I’m really curious about their past! Thanks for doing this for us Alex, Adam and Veronika 😀

    • You’re very welcome, bronakopdin! I’m glad you like it! 🙂

  • TwilightDreamer

oooooo! *sits down*….more than a little intrigued! 😀 It’ll be good to see some of the back story!

  • Nate

I’m assuming that the “remains” are Spooky’s. While he WAS in Hell, he only went there in spirit, and his body appeared dead. He never went to hell physically (although I’m sure it felt physical enough).

    • Pikinanou

      i like that theory 🙂

    • NEAT idea. Now I really can’t wait until the next page.

  • Librarican

My grandfather served in the Air Force for almost 20 years before retiring as Lt. col. which typically takes 15-17 years to achieve. I have a better time believing that the girl in white is our Commander and the uniformed woman is her mother/relative. Or, she might just be her handler, like the Commander is for our boys in present day? My understanding of the terms, however limited, is that commander could be a title instead of a military rank, similar to manager or department head. So our Amanda (if she is some form of military and not just assuming the non-military title of flight commander which is used in public aviation today) could have entered the Air Force after high school (or possibly earlier depending on how her abilities played out) and assumed the role of commander after earning the rank of lieutenant, which typically involves two years in the Air Force.

On a completed unrelated note, six years ago…. iPhones were just coming out, unless that is a blackberry…

    • Elrohir

Going with you on the assumption that the young girl in the white blouse is our later Commander and that it’s her mother/mentor who is the Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. However, it’s possible that the daughter chose a different branch of service (happens in service families sometimes). The SEALs are a Navy detachment. And the USN definitely has a rank of “Commander”. So it need not be just a title. Unfortunately, I am long on speculation and short on facts here because the “Diabolical Alex” has dropped us into a segment of the story Arc where he doesn’t appear to have provided much WoG background. Unless there is a secret stash of material that only the Admiral has access to? Going to be interesting to find out.
Alex, really nice job of dropping us into a moving scene. I like that style of starting a story. But don’t think for one minute that I failed to notice that you raised like 10 times more questions in just 4 panels than your backstory answered! Have I mentioned how much I admire your deviousness? 🙂
Looking forward to this. Very, very much.

      • Glad you’re having a good time, Elrohir. 😀

        Mwa ha ha.

        • You know I always think of Alex as being sort of a cross between Kyle and Spooky, but when he laughs like that… I worry. A little too Woolfros… you know? Hey maybe George Finnegan Edwards floats around in his office bumping into things and leaving slimy eyeball spots on the ceiling… (?) Who knows?

I’ve got to stop making these assumptions. 🙂

          • Elrohir

It IS kind of erie when he does that, don’t you think. Makes you wonder if the whole plans within plans for the plans that have plans thing is going on with Alex. I’m going with crafty. Yup…that’s a reasonably safe non-emotionally charged term. I mean, if Chris gets too close to the truth do people start disappearing? Hmm…

    • b3nc0

Yep, in the last panel, it looks like a Blackberry® typepad.

    • A little artist “word of God” on Lt. Col. Charleyboy’s phone (since we’ll likely never really be seeing it close up enough to settle the mystery): it’s based on a Blackberry, which, if my calculations are right, was at it’s peak popularity right before the iPhone came along.

      🙂

      • Librarican

Yes! Happy dance! 🙂 my first detail confirmed with a WoG!

        • Elrohir

And congrats on that! I really should read the posts in timeline order rather than starting with most recents and walking my way down. Then I would have seen that my response to Takehai was already made superfluous. Still, it’s nice to know that in this instance I was…umm.what’s that phrase that Chris says I can be sometimes? Oh yes,
          “Less wrong than usual” 😉
Nice job though Librarican and thank you Adam for getting us out of the weeds!
**Wondering if Librarican is going to take the WoG confirmation trophy and put it up on the mantle in a place of honor…and thinking you should. :)**

          • Totally. Librarican (oh I just felt like I misspelled that) should not only display it, but buff it occasionally and perhaps put a light near it, so its glitter shall not go unnoticed. A ‘Tech WoG’ is no time to be self-effacing. 😀

            Congratulations indeed!

          • Librarican

Thanks all. There was just a news article on where most Oscar winners keep their awards, and it was the bathroom! I have too many books on my shelves, so I’ll put it in the kitchen over the fridge for right now. I’m thinking this is more a rotating award, so I’ll pass it along ceremoniously to the next person who collects a WoG.

Is it in the likeness of George? I feel like that is appropriate somehow, all seeing and all knowing.

          • HA. Alex’s tech award is not in the bathroom… take THAT Oscars!

          • We should ask someone who is genius with fan-art to design an Award that follows in the tradition of the Oscars, but is rather a large taloned hand holding a giant eyeball. Thus readers would occasionally be eligible to win a GFE — The George Finnegan Edwards Award for All Seeing Technical Spotting. Kinda like a lifetime achievement award for getting a tech WoG.

Perfect for fridge tops everywhere. 🙂

          • Librarican

Elrohir got the geeky prize, and I don’t want to take that away! (really, you can keep that one, I’ll keep my all seeing eyeball.) Can this just be the general WoG Award (or WoGGFE pronounced wog fey). I think it was you Chris who established above the difficulty of getting confirmation via WoG.

        • Oh excellent ye of the eagle eye… *standing ovation* for squeezing out the miserly WoG on this detail. You indeed win major points for knowing your tech and more importantly then we might assume that we are indeed going “back” in RW time and not just TYP time. Bravo(a). 😀

          *chris bows in tech-respect*

(I had a horrible time with my Blackberry. ‘Cause me and tech… not so much you know?)

          • Librarican

I had to laugh about your tech comments, as I have a
            five year old laptop,
            a flip phone,
a ten year old black ink printer (that still works!), and
an iPad for work that I haven’t yet updated to iOS whatever number we are on.

          • Yay! I am NOT alone! Thx.

  • Nice set-up page. 🙂

And I’m glad you went with this solution to the bonus comic problem, Alex. I know other artists have done good work on some of the associated artwork, but for the comic itself I’m very glad it’s still Adam and Vero’s style.

    • Thank you, Jules. 🙂

And while I might use different artists for some fun, supplementary comics, for comics connected to the main story, I’m always going to want Adam and Vero to do that. Glad you like that.

  • Holly

This looks quite interesting. I am assuming the young woman is the Commander and that the LT. Col is her mom?

Also, i was wrong on my URL theory.

  • Pikinanou

Aww, YoungAmanda’s cheeks looks so cutely chubby, I just wanna pinch them 😀 Why, you may ask? It’s a mom thing :3

  • WarGoddess

Hmm I think the dead body is gonna be Spooky. Just a hunch. 😀

  • So.. Amanda is 22 in the current main story, and she met Spooky when she was 16. We know from earlier that she has trained with the Navy Seals for 11 months.
Now I wonder how old she was when doing this? Was she already doing it around this age, or maybe a little later? Before or after the YP was started. Probably depends on how long from their first meeting to the YP starting and if she was actually the one leading them from the start.

Could this Lieutenant Colonel (LC) have started the group training/mentoring a young Amanda in intern training, and then Amanda took over later (maybe because something happened to the LC.
Maybe those remains is Spooky, but it takes a telepath like Amanda to tell them otherwise about the ‘body’… or it’s someone Spooky sent there.

Hmm.. Spooky could have gotten/taken that name after Amanda told him he was spooky 😉
Ideas and theories are already flowing through my mind just from this one page *lol*

    • Sapfo

I like the idea of Amanda giving Spooky his name.

    • Cosplay… I have this sneaking suspicion that our Wolf may be dressed like The Commander at the next Con. Hmmm… I wonder who will be her Spooky? Niiiiice.

  • fujoshifanatic

    First impressions:
Amanda was very cute as a teen, though she needs to stand up straight (I don’t think I ever went through a slouching phase–I’m so short I had to stand up straight for every inch I could get!).

Her mom (?) very much has the looks, demeanor and presence she obviously inherited later on (after she got out of her slouching phase).
I am at once excited, curious and a little bit scared to see what’s in the morgue, as usually people don’t describe dead people as “remains” unless there’s not enough of them left to make a whole body. I’m hoping I’m wrong, but I still can’t wait for the next page.

Oh, and I hope teen Spooky is just as adorable as Teen Amanda! It will be interesting to see if he is the same snarky-cool Spooky right out of the gate(s of hell), or will he be more subdued, having just come out of his time in the netherworld. It’s a toss-up in my mind, but I’m leaning more towards snarky-cool, as you would need that strong of a personality to make it through a year in Hell and still come out as cool and kind as present-day Spooky.

I guess we’ll see soon, since we are set for bonus pages for the next two (!) months. You guys are the best! Is it Saturday yet? 😛

  • *LOL*.. btw, Alex. I just searched the full meaning of Kyle’s name and you couldn’t have picked something more fitting than this for our main character.

Meaning of Kyle Conlen: Victorious Hero.

That is something that set the tones about him 😉

  • Elin Gregory

    Oooh backstory! what fun.

  • NightArcher213

Nice going Alex! This is the first time I’ve seen Air Force Blues accurately depicted outside of the Air Force.

  • Wow, Alex, Adam & Veronica thank you for a great shift in time, tone and place. So exciting and actually a perfect break from the grand expanses of hell and the mountain grandeur.

Right away in p#1 — I love the pure contrast to where we’ve been. A crowded hallway. Dense with people, cops, civil servants. Not a super hero costume in the place. I’m going to just agree with some prior notes and say thanks for being “thoughtlessly” multi-racial and with women in power positions done so naturally that even “six years ago” it perfectly normal. I love that you immediately tell our highly attuned “trope” senses, ‘police station’. Power lady is the highly decorated gal in the middle and just slightly in the lead, who does look like she could be related to Amanda… or not.

P#2 — I thought Amanda as a 16 year-old looked just right. Casual clothes, a little baby fat, clearly before her time with the Navy Seals, but you can tell she’s there with the Top-Lady because she doesn’t look nervous or unsure about anything. Someone mentioned lack of smart phones. I’d just say in super-hero comics there is ALWAYS impossible tech and also that six year ago is relative to TYP now??? So other than the acoustic tile ceilings, it’s hard to judge if their time relates to ours, or even this is “our” today?

But, if you got a telepath on call, smart tech seems de rigueur. I also love that in a single page you three entirely set up the dynamic between three people (we assume Amanda a bit knowing her ‘now’). And the questions give us the launch pad for TYP’s relationship to the govt. Thank Klaus for that reminder of Kyle mention of ExSec during the hell-dinner.

P#3 — We know its something big because of the superintendent’s (herself! another gal) 2am call and FULL cooperation. Love the annoyed expression on the detective’s face and the amused (used to it) expression on her male partner’s face. Love the reverse on that hackneyed scenario. Here it’s the lady detective who’s the grump and the male who is amused and calm when it usually seems the other way around.

P#4 — Remains huh. It’s hard to imagine Spooky being something termed remains? I loved someone’s mention of Spooky’s body remaining here… just interesting. Does Amanda sense him and help wake him up or to “come back.” Sleeping Beauty my Spooky-butt. Did Spooky, fighting his way home, leave demon remains and is that why the brass was brought in. Creepy demon cadaver? Do we have demon remains? Or is this all that’s left of whoever sent Spooky to hell? Did Spook get his revenge at 14. Is he a wanted man and will Amanda be the telepath who clears his name? So many possibilities. IS REVENGE the thing that changes Spooky’s spiritual course in life?

Alex has used multiple cliffs here to hang us on, all in this one page. Hope he doesn’t run out cliffs before the bonus story is over. *snerk*

Whatever his name was… I think after a time in hell you’re allowed to rename yourself as you please. Right on Spooky Jones!

Thank you A,A&V. A fresh break at a perfect time and, I suspect this is going to make resuming chapter 3 all the better. As always the writing and art are special. Thank you all for this effort.

    • Sapfo

Just as Chris said, a wonderful new page on a new part of your story Alex.

I have to mention that I like the fact that when I read the page the first time I did not see Amanda. It took me atleast three reading through before I discovered her. She is hidding in pain sight and that makes this part of the story more interesting.

Amanda and Charleboy looks a lot a like. Is this a coincidence or is there a connection? And if Amanda is 16 in this part of the story, what is she doing here? Has she been recruited?

I also wonder how Spooky will be. Perhaps he has just come back from hell, or was it a few months ago. Is he angry, bitter, scared, vicious, sad, scared?

Darn, this page is only teasing me and I want to know more. Well Mr. Alex “Cliff” Woolfson, you are testing my patience. But I will realax and will try to learn to bend arch of time until the week only have campingdays 😉

      • b3nc0

Hm, your “hiding in plain sight” comment combined with “what is she doing here at 16” got me thinking… What if Amanda’s abilities were telepathy, mind control & HYPERCURIOSITY?
So I thought she could tag along Mommy or Aunt-enant Colonel without anyone seeing her =°O

        • Librarican

Could she mind control someone into not seeing her? That would be so cool!

          • Can I blame my improper behavior on The Commander and say, “She made me do it.” (?) I like the sound of that!

          • Elrohir

I think some of Alex’s devious is rubbing off on you!
Have I mentioned how much I admire that in you humans? 🙂

      • Thank you, Sapfo! You’re also asking good questions. I hope you continue to enjoy our little backstory story! 🙂

    • Takehai

Correction on the smartphone issue: the iPhone was first introduced in 2007, but there were Blackberry and Palm smartphones in use before then, as well as Windows mobile phones. iPhone revolutionized the smartphone market, but Apple didn’t originate it.

      • Thank you. I’m no good for exactitude when it comes to tech. So you’ll notice my blanket self-absolution about super-hero comics absolving us from having to worry about a synthetic fabric that wont burn even though we are all WILLING it to burn away. LOL.

*chris closes eyes and clenches fists and repeats “I do believe in naked Kyles… I DO believe in naked Kyles…”*

I also cheat by pretending They are in our TODAY and chapter 3 is six years in the future. Total weenie fudging when it come to time-lines. My geek card is in total jeopardy. Please don’t tell. 🙂

        Thanks Takehai, much appreciated.

        • Takehai

Happy to be of service! ;-p
And congratulations on the TYP Geekery prize, Elrohir! 😀 Enjoy the hours of entertainment from the vintage printer!
Oh, and Chris: don’t keep your eyes closed too long, or you might actually miss something important. Like what you are wishing for. . . 😉

      • Elrohir

Takehai, I wasn’t paying attention to the tech the first time I read the page. I’m going with 6 years ago BlackBerry, which as a provider is a technology that is still heavily in use in the US Government because of some useful security functions. I had several versions of BlackBerry prior to my current smart phone and from Panel 4 that one looks like one of the early BB Curves. The lower half being a physical keyboard and then just above it the white dot that “could be” the little backlit trackball for scrolling the screen and menus.
But that’s all guess work at this point and probably a little too much geek about one element of the panel.
**Wondering if there is a prize for “too much geek”**

        • The TYP GEEKERY PRIZE!

Yes indeed, Elrohir, there is a prize for too much “GEEK”. CONGRATULATIONS, you will receive a much coveted 1989 Vintage Epson MX-80 dot matrix printer as shown “in action” below.

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VBURvUgzls

We apologize that Vana White is unavailable to unveil this prize due to some recent plastic surgery, but this printer comes complete with a box of paper with the little perforated feed holes and tabs on each side that must be carefully removed after printing for the proper 8-1/2 by 11″ paper size.

Your inner geek will be thrilled to know that the Epson can print between 50 to 550 cps, thus hours and hours of your precious time can be spent watching intently for paper jams or page perforations.

As a fellow geek who progressed from corporate Blackberry to Smartphone, I can share your excitement and delight at this surprise.

We here at the TYP prize disbursement division hope that watching your documents print will provide you with hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of of pleasure.

We salute you, fellow geek, and rest assured that your geek brethren surround you and wish you well, unless they are in competition with you for a future prize… in which case they will joyfully run over you with a truck in order to win.

Happy geeking to you from everyone here at TYP Prizes!

(Please note that all TYP prizes and references herein are the sole property of AWC Inc. and not to be appreciated or enjoyed without the full permission of AWC’s Geek Division™.)

          Happy geeking to you!

          • Elrohir

            **Elrohir <== chuckling non-stop**
THAT good sir was CLASSIC and going in the save file. Time zones have me reading here just before 5AM and you have me laughing like a loon in my hotel room (no doubt quite disquieting to the neighbors here).
**Bows deeply several times to the audience while desperately clutching the TYP GEEKERY PRIZE**
Thank you! Thank you! I shall treasure this forever!

    • And thank you, Chris, for another wonderful, thoughtful comment. You’re asking good questions. And I’m glad you’re liking how we’re starting off here!

    • Nicely broken down Mr. Dangerfield! Very good questions.

      • See I figure If I list ALL the options I can think of… I’ll still be wrong. HA!

  • Klaus

Why does Parker call her lieutenant? I find it difficult to believe that it was an honest mistake. On the other hand his facial expression and body language throughout the page do not seem antagonistic, so it is most likely not a deliberate insult. But what then?

    • Klaus

On second thought, as a police officer he is used to addressing his boss as “lieutenant”. Could be just a slip of the toungue.

    • b3nc0

Though, the gazes exchanged between the partners in the second to last panel don’t really scream respect either…

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

GAAHHHH! OK OK I’m better now! I was hoping for more of Spooky/Kyle…but I’ll live.

  • Valja

Oh yeah, bonus comic! As much as I love the current storyline, knowing more character background is something I’ve always liked and yearned to, in every book/comic/series I’ve come across… I’m so excited now!! And curious curious curious curious curious!! xD

    • bronakopdin

      true!
in fact I always have the urge to know everything about a character
      every character
even more the a$$hole ones since everything has some kind of cause, right?
at least most of the time
Background stories are what makes you bond with any kind of character!
it would be awesome to learn about all the characters background 😀

maybe more specials later in the story? Alex? ^^

      • Valja

“…even more the a$$hole ones since everything has some kind of cause, right?”
This line written by someone with Hisoka as profile pic is somewhat funny 😉

        • bronakopdin

          exactly that’s it!
I would love to know his past 🙂

      • Klaus

Hoping for a Hunter background story, are you?

      • bronakopdin

haha, yep! for example, but there are so many stories I’d love to know more about 🙂

  • detective tutt intrigues me. so does anhi’s younger brother (b.k.a. “Smug Snake”), up there.

    goooo . . . . . Tutt!!!

    • Detective Tutt is definitely a butt kicker of the most intriguing type, but (I’m lost) who is “Smug Snake”? Anni’s younger bro? Am I just lost in the sauce? 🙂

      • (sshhhhh
don’t say “sauce” around these here parts
        😉 ;-0.)

Smug Snake = Anhi’s Younger Bro

i’d love it in tutt becomes part of the regular cast, actually.
        i don’t suppose she’d be tsunami’s mom..

        ..<3.

        • Klaus

She does not look Samoan to me.

          • Tsunami is of Samoan descent? Since I’m wandering about, maybe you can direct me toward that bit of backstory. Thanks Klaus.

          • Klaus

This is from one of Alex’ comments. I think his tatoos are a Samoan tradition.

          • I think I did make a comment like that and I have a good idea why I might have said that (namely, wanting more representation for Samoans, which I have not seen enough of).

But I’m officially not WOGing that. My original note for Adam was that Tsunami was of Maori heritage and that’s the culture Adam used for references for his tattoos. From what I understand, Samoan tattoos don’t really look like this, that while the Samoan people have their own tattoo culture, those tattoos don’t extend much above the torso and not really onto people’s faces.

          • SofiaT

            Tsunami is a Kiwi?! Awesome!

          • From the little I know, the facial tattoos are a pretty big deal for the Maori.

          • I had no idea about Tsunami’s heritage. That is so cool. I can’t wait to learn more about him.

You can tell I’m hoping he’ll find a way to get over his feelings as expressed during the Interlude. Maybe he’ll relax with the issue when not confronted with naked images of himself on-line. 🙂

          • Elrohir

Hmm…Haven’t really thought this through (time zones just have me awake way too early without my caffeine) but many people don’t react well to any caricature of themselves. Much less one in which they are portrayed doing something they would not have thought of themselves as doing (no matter how much some of us might have wanted to see the detail of those images 🙂 umm..you know, just for scientific purposes), and especially the very cool way in which Spooky responded to it and was teasing him about it (and you can tell I’m still hoping that Spooky travels in “both lanes”).
Though I suspect that your view is probably the more accurate read of his response. I’m just trying to reason through his reaction.
Hey! Wait a minute!?!? If Tsunami doesn’t have to be confronted with naked images of himself on line that doesn’t mean WE don’t have to be confronted with naked images of him on line? Right? Does it? Huh?
**Looks at Alex with big, sad, incredibly hard to resisit, puppy dog eyes**

          • Just an FYI — Alex has this hi-tech protective emo-manipulation shield that surrounds him 24/7. (Yes even while sleeping.)

I’m not saying he’s unreachable, but he seems pretty much unaffected by theoretical puppy dog eyes, heartbreaking ‘sighs’ or readers, much cuter than you or I, all of whom swear that they’re not going to live another minute without a critical WoG and its associated shipment of background information.

I and others have given him the full whammy and he still hasn’t given up any crucial information. My contacts at the NSA, CIA, FBI and Nasa have not had any luck in cracking the TYP database. So, I’m not saying it’s not worth the effort if you’re a brilliant hacker, or emo-manipulator, he’s just not an easy mark by any means. 😀

(erm… wait? what? Was all that said in my out loud voice? oh dear….)

          • no, klaus?

      • Adam Irving

There’s nothing wrong with being lost in sauce. 🙂

  • I hoping that a couple of military experts will have some guidance here for those of us who are militarily title impaired…

Is it the same for any section of the armed forces? Is Colonel a step down from General, Admiral etc?

Lieutenant Colonel Charleyboy ‘may’ report directly to the president (although she down-plays that). So it could make sense that she’s on the hunt for young people of power. The Young Protectors might be a new (idea) group or one of many already existing such groups of young people around the country just learning to handle their emerging power. I can’t imagine in this AU that Kyle, Spooky and company are alone in handling this transition into power or that it’s gone unnoticed.

It makes you wonder if a man like Duncan, who may have been born before EXSEC, was a kid who had no help to transition. So maybe they want to get to someone like Spooky before things go irreparably wrong.

It’s scary to think what could happen to Kyle without someone like Spooky.

So, anyway, does anyone have a better term for EXSEC? Or a better theory, ’cause I’m totally lost on this one. It certainly makes sense that this is a big enough deal that such a division would report directly to the President…

    Thoughts? Thanks.

    • Elrohir

US Military ranks can be a bit of a quandry sometimes. This is a pretty good comparitive link:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_comparative_military_ranks
And don’t get me started on the colors of the stars. I have some friends in the service who tell me that the system used by the Confederacy during the US Civil War was actually a bit easier. But I’m a novice at that.
One interesting point of trivia. Whenever the US Navy transports one of the other services regardless of branch, any “Captain” in the other service gets a brevret (sp?) promotion to “Major” as there is ever only one “Captain” on board ship.
Being seconded to some detached service (as the Lieutenant Colonel apparently has been) is not always rank dependent and may be due to some special skill or knowledge. Sorry I can’t offer more help.

      • Elrohir
        • Klaus

A friend of mine claims that the ranks are subtractive. However, some militaries have a rank “colonel general” which outranks general, so you can not count on that either.

          • Maybe I’ll just have to accept this as told and not furrow my brow. Hmmmm? Thanks Klaus and @disqus_E1BJEAP7bC:disqus.

          • Klaus

“En lieu de” means in stead of in French. A lieutnant is someone who acts in stead of someone else, a substitute or deputy. A lieutenant colonel or lieutenant general is, or was originally, the colonel or general’s substitute.

In the Danish system, where a navy kaptajn is equivalent to an army or air force major, the navy has a rank called kaptajnløjtnant, which corresponds to a kaptajn in the other branches.

          • Elrohir

I also find it confusing the variation in use of gold and silver. Normally one thinks of Gold as being a higher value than silver, and yet 2nd Lieutenant/Naval Ensign is a gold bar vs a 1st Lieutenant being a silver bar. Or a Major having a Gold oak leaf while a Lt. Colonel has a Silver Oak leaf (full marks to Alex/Adam/Veronica for getting that detail correct above). And of course a Colonel/Navy Captain gets the silver eagle leading to the slang of a “Full Bird Colonel”.
Hey! Wait a minute! You don’t think this whole thing is just a really elaborae plan to confuse Chris do you? 🙂

          • Klaus

In the American military, silver is consistantly the highest.

      • Sharon Kerr-Bullian

And just to really mess with your head, while it may seem there’s a clear hierarchy with ranks related to position, that’s not necessarily entirely accurate.

Your actual position (see job title) affects your authority. If you hold an office or position that is higher in heirarchy, you may in some cases have command over someone else of higher rank. A rangemaster is god king/queen of the shooting range for example – if in our hypothetical, our NCO Rangemaster commands the range to stop shooting, a commissioned officer can’t just keep shooting, that’s a violation of safety procedures, and of a lawful order.

Even more confusingly, there might also be an enforced hierarchy related to branch of service and location. For example, if you’ve got Army troops being billeted and transported on a Navy vessel, the Army troops, even if higher ranking than some of the Naval officers onboard, must defer to lawful Naval commands – again, this is primarily a safety related hierarchy change.

Additionally, there are some rules of thumb it’s smart to remember:
        1) a sergeant in motion outranks a lieutenant who doesn’t know what’s going on
        2) more importantly, ordnance technicians at a dead run outrank everyone.

        Confused yet?

        • Are those last two points just practical common sense ways those of a higher rank should react to dangerous situations or are they actually in the military code?

          • Sharon Kerr-Bullian

They’re practical common sense, but… call me crazy if you like, I think those should be written into military code 😉

          • When my brother retired from the Marines recently, he was a First Sergeant. As far as he could go rank-wise without going to Officer Training School (apparently unthinkable for a solid enlisted lifer). But he said that a solid respected sergeant was NEVER to be ignored, simply on general purposes.

I’m sure everything is different when you report to the President, but my bro is a very mellow dude in real life, but on base, it was amazing to see how many young enlisted pups snapped to serious attention simply because he was ‘in sight’. Clearly Sergeant was a BIG deal. I had to remind him that I used to thump him when we were kids. LOL.

That said, that’s Marines. I’m learning here that every single division and country has it’s own rules in a big way. I can only imagine having access to the President warps everything even more. Yikes.

          • Sharon Kerr-Bullian

Oh yeah, sergeants are the guys who really run things 😉

  • The Most Damaging Words That Can Be Said To A Young Man

I know many of you have seen this, but I’m posting it again because I think more than anything it speaks to what Spooky learned in order to be a real man. One that could give Kyle that serious hug. A true generous hug when he needed it most. Another reason I’m ready for Saturday… NOW!

    http://sftimes.co/?id=131&src=share_fb_new_131

    • Sapfo

One reason of many why I love being female. Being able to give hugs and asking for a hug without being questioned.
I just wish my brothers male-friends where not so afraid of showing emotions and of asking “How are you?”, wanting an honest answer.

      So, it´s not Saturday yet?

      • vessto

That’s one of the many damages contemporary religion does to people.

        • Thanks Vessto, but if I might request. I’d really like to leave ‘religion’ out of our (or at least my) discussions. It’s so personal and I respect everyone who respects me on this issue.

So, I’m not a MOD, but if I might respectfully ask… I’d really appreciate that we keep Pandora’s box closed on this subject. I’d be most grateful. I didn’t mean to imply anything with that link other than helping our men not fall into the “false masculinity trap.”

          Thanks so much. Best, ChrisD

          • vessto

I’m ok not to mention it as long as you ask. But to add again I’ll do it because you, not because the religion. I think that not naming the cause of a sickness (in the name of delusional tolerance toward this cause) won’t cure the sickness at all.

If you could see what happens in my country on this subject, including having “yoghurt for men” (property of the local Danone fraction) because the other kind of Danone is promoted by females on TV so it became “not for males”.

          • SofiaT

It’s not about “tolerance towards this cause” vessto, it’s about accepting other people’s beliefs -same way you and I want them to accept our non-beliefs.

Getting preached to believe in God is very annoying (it happens to me all the time from the traditional members of the extended family) but getting preached for believing in God, is just as bad.

So I’ll agree with Chris here and ask that we let that sleeping dog lie, not out of “delusional tolerance” but out of respect for other people in the community who may not feel the same way. 🙂

          • vessto

I said I’m ok not to mention it but me being silent won’t remove in a bit what it caused and causes to people. It will just be me being silent with facts remaining. Having beliefs is not bad if they are not beliefs in something which harms people. This killed billions.

          • Hello and happy day before new page day (see how I mark time)…

I’m sorry if I posted something too political for this forum. I had a friend who lost a son to suicide on the masculinity issue and that video grabbed my attention in relation to Spooky, and I didn’t think very smartly before posting. It’s really not appropriate of me to drop such things on this forum, there are plenty of gay political forum to share that on.

Nor is it appropriate of me to ask anyone not to post their views for religion or any reason. So, I apologize for overstepping myself and hopefully we can move forward and you’ll excuse my un-fun and mildly pompous post and we’ll do as the Mod suggests. 🙂

            Sincere thanks,
            ChristopherD.

          • vessto

It is not political at all, I think we share everything here. It is just my temper when I see unfair things. I always speak what I think and I speak with facts. I’m sorry for me disturbing your comment and if you prefer I could delete my replies. I don’t regret anything I said and will say about that thing. But because of my respect to you I could delete my replies.

I have experience with femininity subject as my colleagues nag me why I don’t wear skirts. They said I’m “not on the right path”. Such primitive stuff are shame for humanity.

  • Jakk Anthony Guzman

I just realized that six years ago Spooky would have been 14 years old, and recently back from hell. And of course that would make Kyle 12.

    • I wonder if the two events are connected. Kyle coming into his powers at the same time that Spooky emerged from hell. It all seems rather a coincidence.

      • Elrohir

Indeed, wasn’t 12 the birthday on which Kyle set fire to the foster family house? I’m wondering now if the first expression of his powers through a birthday orgasm somehow cause Spooky to be able to break out of his captivity. I mean, the expression of power would be tied to Laampros’ own, no?
        Thoughts?

        • Yes, yes it was. And that’s an interesting idea and a very good possibility. It makes a lot of sense that Kyle’s release of power could have opened a small door for Spooky to escape through.

        • Klaus

“I had just turned twelve.” I understand that as a few days after the birthday. But you may be right.

          • Jakk Anthony Guzman

It could work several ways. It could mean several days or weeks after his birthday, or it could mean that very same day that he turned twelve.

      • It does but Alex also has a way of weaving things together in wild ways. Maybe it’s too convenient, but I could see him pulling it off too. Cool idea Jakk/Admiral.

        • As I’ve said, all my guess have been wrong. Unless I’m playing the long wait and will see how this ends and then I can say, yep I knew it. 😛

  • Toby Drake Stewart

Blast! Its 1:40am and I was going to read all night, but this is all there is for now! Can’t wait for some more.

  • vessto

Supposition 1: The remains are of a demon like Mr. Laampy
Supposition 2: The remains are of Spooky who are thought for dead but will revive somehow.

  • Lovi Poekimo

For some reason, I keep imagining Clancy Brown as the voice of the Annihilator…

    • Great idea Lovi Poekimo. Clancy is one of the industry’s best voice-actors. His Lex Luthor is yummy. He’s a good enough actor that I’ll bet he could delivery a voice that is both a Duncan when necessary and also an ‘Annihilator’, that would totally have us buying in. Just for fun, here’s a taste of Clancy Brown as Lex…

  • Yukiness

Love the business of the first panel. you can almost hear the idle chatter, radios and telephones going off in the background

    • Thanks Yukiness. What a great reminder. SOUND! You are so right. You can totally hear that busy hallway.

    • Librarican

Haven’t read that one yet, but I gave a squeeeee over Girls with Slingshots this morning.
      http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1813/

        • Librarican

If I end up replying twice my apologies, but it looks like Disqus ate my first attempt.
Thanks for the link. I took a look at it and it’s not really my thing.

          • For the first pages the art isn’t the best, but it quickly changes to better when Hamlet decided to make it an actual comic.
But of course the story in itself can’t be everyones interest either 🙂

          • I was open to anything and enjoyed the end of the last chapter a LOT, but I’m really lost in the start of the current chapter.

          • Cain is dreaming, like Abel had a dream in the begining of chap. 2. He’s about to find out that the ‘reality’ in his dream IS the dream.

          • No complaints here. Trust me. I’m just not solid enough yet with the StarF. story to track at a deeper level. I think TYP also is one that needs a couple of reads to get more of it. The good ones are definitely layered.

          • Librarican

I’ve also decided that Teahouse isn’t really my thing because I couldn’t track that story either. I gave that one a really good try since it kept popping up as recommended reading. Too many folks flitting in and out and not enough time for me to get to know them. I think I’m more an “off-screen sex” kind of reader.

          • Yep, I’m much the same with TH. I love reading Wolf, Doki and Sapfo’s comments, but I don’t dare comment myself because I like the art, but my definitions of male behavior don’t line up easily with that comic. So I have to just enjoy it as good art and then keep my big mouth shut. HA! (well I do try, contrary to popular belief).

          • Yeah, I have to pick and choose which people to reply to there, it can get scary….

          • stickfigurefairytales

Eep. I’ve definitely been spoiled by TYP.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Really? That explains a lot, I guess.

          • But the beginning of this chapter is so beautiful….the art *sighs* She is capturing things so well….

          • To each his own. ^_^ I have many interests, some completely at odds with the other…..I have very eclectic collections. ^_^

  • Well I’m just hoping that, as in ROCKY HORROR, now we’ll go up to the lab… and see what’s on the slab. ‘Cause, I’ve been all a shiver with antic……. i… pation.

I just hope Alex made us a man! 🙂

    • davefragments

In just seven days, he made a man

      • HA! Too true!

        *chris crosses his heart*

Ooops, Alex, I promise I was making no fashion statements about your attire this last week. 🙂

  • I just got home from a really good girls night out, and since it’s now 2am here I decided to simply stay up and then go to bed after the new page. If I go to bed now I’m not sure I’d be able to wake up in a couple of hours, so doing a 24 hours being up *yawn* 🙂
Besides, it’s a bad storm outside (which made me happy that I got a ride home) and the noise from wind and the building site next door is enought to keep me up and make sure nothing happens.

So I’m gonna stick around early with you guys today 🙂

    • Yay! Danish! Party time! Who needs sleep? It was really windy here a couple of days ago, so I can kind of understand that, but get me tired enough I and I will sleep through anything. ^_^

      • I had to get up early to go with my grandmother to get labs done, so I conked out for a couple of hours midday. ^_^

      • I feel pretty sure the stack of building materials next door is gonna fall at some point. It’s heavy and stacked well btut wrapped in plastic that the wind catches on to. The wind in the plastic is noisy as hell and just outside my windows. I’m just waiting for the big bang telling it fell >.>

Sheesh, maybe I get to call for help again this weekend, but not the police this time, so they can send someone to secure the materials xD

I’d prefer my campings not to be this ‘exciting’ xD I want to have fun and enjoy the great pages.

        • Just think of it this way….it is providing dramatic sound effects. ^_^

    • Thank goodness my Virgin from last week is still fresh and comfy, I’m staying out of the way. The serious hunters are out tonight! 🙂

I had a funny image of our Wolf explaining to her employers why she was late last week…

D-Wolf: What do you mean you don’t know what The Young Pretenders is? Priorities!!!!!!

      • LOL.. I didn’t even say any reason. I showed up, said goodmorning and went to work… but they really should know about TYP. Bad them for probably not.

Edit: and I’m not sure how serious I’ll hunt tonight. I’ve been up for over 20 hours and can so feel it. I’m starting to consider taking the chance with a small nap, or just skip camping on purpose tonight.

        Blashemy, I know!

        • Gasp! I… I feel faint!

          • Quick fan the admiral… get her a cool cloth…

          • And an apple fritter!

          • Suggggggggar!

          • Yes! Sugar

          • Holly

*slides fainting couch under AJ to catch her, sets up fanboy, places a cool cloth on her head, and takes a apple fritter out of my baking compartment*

            Anything else Admiral?!

          • I… I think I might be okay. Such a pretty fanboy. Thanks.

          • It’s a amazing what good a cute fan-boy will do for a body. LOL

          • Holly

There are so many ways to interpret that.

          • HA! True that.

        • Holly

          >_>
          <_<

Sleep is important DW. Very Important,,,

  • Holly

Holly enters into the camp with her typical as of late dramatic flop. She provides treats for the other campers in hopes that she can get some of the attention she craves. For she is quite the attention seeker. Watch as she lays out all the treats and lies in wait. For before one can hunt the virgin, they must first hunt friends.

    • lol! *hugs* How are you tonight Holly love?

      • Holly

My life is a swirl of conflicting emotions. So honestly, I don’t know. I really haven’t known how I felt for the past few weeks. For each hand up I get a knock down, very confusing for my emotions.

        But y’know good i guess.

I just wish someone could teach me how to sing properly, and not be pitchy.

        • *hugs tight* Awwww Well, you know we love you!

I would not suggest myself. Not only do I have no training, but I can only really belt out a song when there is no one around. ^_^ And I have a bad voice ^_^

        • I’m sorry… I read… “and not be pitchy.” exactly wrong for just a minute and I thought what does that have to do with singing… but I’m caught up now. LOL.

          • Holly

I have questions…. you mean you had a dyslexic moment with the first letter, or you mean you though pitchy meant something else.

          • #1 — I read too fast and mis-read… and then couldn’t figure out why mood affected singing. ‘Doh!

          • Holly

Haha. So silly. But yeah, it just sucks that my ability to get a job depends on a skill I’m not great at. I mean, I have a nice voice I just… Don’t hit notes well. No vocal training.

My ACTING was superb, no notes on that. But the singing is very much the lynch pin. *sighs*

          • *hugs* I am sure it will be ok!

          • Holly

No really. I BARELY got a callback because of how pitchy my singing was.

          • *hugs* But you DID get a call back ^_^ Positive.

            Keep Moving Forward!

…….I haven’t even watched that movie in awhile…

          • Holly

            of course right. Positive!

          • I feel for you. When I sing in the car with the radio, my husband says (kindly), “Please don’t sing.” Yep… it’s that bad, he’s not being mean. Fortunately, I can hear the good stuff, but I can’t do it myself. Ah well.

          • Holly

haha poor Chris’ hubby having to listen to that caterwalling. 😛

          • Ha. Yep.

          • DC

The person I’m in my car with the most would probably be one of my sisters, the one who is deaf. So she can’t hear my woeful singing, fortunately for her.

  • LOL.. this doesn’t have anything to do with comics, but I just had to share this I was linked.
    http://www.tokyotower.co.jp/eng/secret/

Go down to the bottom of the page. Those two little characters. I’m not sure they’re doing what they were supposed to do 😉

    • LOL…….wow…..lol

    • Holly

      O_O

      • Hi Doki and Holly!

        • Holly

          hi chris!!!

          • Hi… okay I think I had the same theory you did last time. Interlude 2 page 1????? But NOOOOO…

          • Holly

I know. Alex is a tricky one. Though I guess it makes sense, this is probably taking place in the past where as the interlude was… well an interlude. 😛

          • Just goes to prove I’m almost always wrong when it come to trying to predict Alex…….

        • Hi Chris! Not hiding tonight?

          • I really did pull a Danish last week. I was really tired and grumpy from work. NOT GOOD COMPANY. So I was trying to spare you all. then I just saw Alex’s link clicked and BAM… it was a total DANISH moment where she trips and refreshes the page type thing.

          • Aren’t it fun? 😀

          • Oh yeah. It was silly. Pure luck.

    • Ahahahahahahahaha… you mean they’re NOT texting? 🙂

    • Snirk!

    • stickfigurefairytales

I remember when I went to Tokyo Tower and saw those little mascot things! They…may not have been the best choice.

  • Hmmm if there are any that read Sebastian & the Beast, it has updated. http://www.radiocomix.com/sebastian-and-the-beast/comic/chapter-9-pg-09/

For those that haven’t, SatB is a different take on the tale Beauty and the Beast. It is has a very interesting story so far, and it is intriguing to see where it will go next. ^_^ You can start reading it here: http://www.radiocomix.com/sebastian-and-the-beast/comic/sebastian-the-beast/

    • Thanks. Just when I think there can’t possibly be more… you give a new link. Many thanks!

      • I am a sucker for different interpretations of fairy tales. Books, movies, comics….I have 3/4 different Cinderella, Snow White, Peter Pan movies; 2 different Beauty and the Beast…

There is an interesting comic of an interpretation of Little Mermaid, but it is on hiatus… and on SUCH a CLIFFHANGER *sigh*

        • Holly

Oh if you love fairytale interpretations you should check out http://www.erstwhiletales.com/

Also I was in a play last year that adapted fairy tales it was…interesting?

          • Thanks for sharing. I always love different points of view on classic fairy tales, myths and stories. I always find it fascinating. It’s like the truths of humanity are similar and unite us, but our world view changes with time culture and locale.

          • Holly

Yeah I love to look at them as well. Especially when you think of how some fairytales take their cues from myths.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the stories where a fey or something asks for “The thing under the tree” or “The thing in the basket” in exchange for something. Then the parent is always Horrified to learn they made a deal for the child. It would be interesting to look at that from a different point of view than normal.

Also, the girl who doesn’t marry the princess. I feel bad for her. Not when the love rival is the antagonist, but just when some girl is supposed to marry the prince but the protagonist shows up the prince leaves with her. Honestly, when my friend told that I wasn’t the princess type i started really thinking about those girls.

        • Librarican

If you like fairy tale interpretations, you should be watching Once Upon a Time. It’s doing for the fairy tale villians what Wicked did for the wicked witch of the West.

    • Saxon_Brenton

One archive binge later, and I can say that was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon waiting for a YP update. Thank you.

  • Damn.. I can’t do it. I just dozed off in my chair.
I’ll take the risk of a power nap and be back in about 45mins. Hopefully that will be before the new page 🙂

    • I like your chances. A 45 minute nap is likely to be safe if you are hunting virgins…

      • Yes, made it back with some effort. Now the question is about how much longer I could have slept – or the somewhat estimate of when I can go back to bed? 🙂

  • Anyone have any ideas for a camping game?

    • Okay… theories… do we think most of the team have regular parents? Is this a special school situation — for Mitch (for example) or, like Kyle, is this his family? I was thinking about Spooky. So who’s got folks and family and who is alone and TYP IS their family?

I realize we don’t REALLY know, but I’m curious about people’s theories.

      Thanks, C

      • Hmmmm. I kind of see it as a type of X-men type thing. Most of those with abilities where born to “normal/regular” people. But I would lay odd on everyone except Spooky and Kyle having both parents normal.

        • Librarican

I think that’s why I like XMen so much, is the variety of not only abilities but also lifestyles. Plus the back story to me makes sense, more so then the fact that all of these mutant villians migrate to the one spot where superheros live. If I was the Penguin or the Riddler or Doc Oc or whoever, I would attack a different city and not the one city where a superhero lives who routinely thwarts my evil schemes.

          • But that is also part of the challenge, to outsmart the good guys! Who would want to be a villain if there weren’t any challenges?

          • Ummmm ME. I’d rule the world and no one would bother me. Okay, I guess I’m a lazy villain. LOL.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Ruling the world seems like the worst possible thing if you don’t want anyone to bother you, though.

          • Okay… that’s totally true. I’d hate that job.

Edit: Maybe that’s why they’re so grumpy?

          • stickfigurefairytales

I think that in the comics at least, villains do sometimes attack other places, but then the X-Men travel their in their jet or something to stop them.

Edit: Still, you make a good point.

          • True that… Kinda like Sircea opening up that door to Hong Kong. There’s always convenient transport. 🙂

          • Funnny… a suburb that caters to super heroes….

          • stickfigurefairytales

I think there’s actually a comic along those lines called “Superbia” or something similar.

    • Holly

      I could do tarot readings…

      • Librarican

long distance? I’d love to know how that would work!

        • Holly

I don’t know. Those call in lines do it long distance lol

But yeah I really don’t know how would would do that long distance.

        • stickfigurefairytales

Librarican, do you want to ask Holly a question next? If not, I’ll go ahead.

      • lol, that could be very interesting! I wanna try! ^_^

If anything, it will be funny?

        • Holly

Okay I’ll just do a diamond reading. Because they are fast. Think of a question and I will do a reading ^_^

          • hmmmm….Will I be able to finish my TYP fanfic? Is that good enough?

          • Holly

Usually you’d ask an open ended question like “How am I going to do on my exams?” or “Is there love in my future?” Or something like that.

But if you want to ask if you’ll finish your fic you can.

          • LOL, it is somewhat open ended…every time i go to finish it i get distracted >.<

          • and I not always good at picking things up again >.<

          • stickfigurefairytales

            I hear ya!

          • Hey stickfigure!!!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Hi Doki! My tumblrfriend!

          • Yep Yep, that is I!

          • stickfigurefairytales

How are you this fine night/whatever time of day where you are?

          • Holly

            Reading:
            Past: Opportunities Abound
            Present: Confusion over different paths
Future: Focus On those who believe in you, or face unhappiness
Advice: Stop being picky and negative

            This concludes your reading. Accurate?

          • LOL ^_^ ……*whispers* Did you even use your cards for that? 😛 ^_^

            Fairly!! ^_^

          • Holly

            Yeah I did ^_^

          • ^_^ *hugs*

          • stickfigurefairytales

            That was awesome!

          • Librarican

Once Doki’s done I’d like to try next. Never had a reading before. 🙂

          • Holly

Okay what do you want to ask the cards?

      • stickfigurefairytales

Is there anybody in line to go next?

        • Holly

Librarican technically, but they have not asked a question. So if you ask one now, you can hope the queue.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            I’ll go ask – just a sec.

          • stickfigurefairytales

Haven’t heard back from Librarian yet, so I guess I’ll go. What should I do next in my job hunting?

          • Holly

            Here is your reading:
Past: Love growing into respect and acceptance
            Present: Confusion Over different paths
Future: Lack of confidence and feeling Overwhelmed
Advice: Keep your eyes open for Opportunities.

            Reading complete. Accurate?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            I think so!

          • Holly

Sorry that your future turned out not well…

          • stickfigurefairytales

Well, maybe it just means immediate future, which would make sense. And we can always try punching it to get it to improve! (You can punch abstract concepts like the future, right?)

          • See that’s what always happens in films. It’s just a joke and then all the cards turn over with skull and cross bones…. I’MMMMMM DOOOOMED.

          • OKAY. Tell me. How horrible is my death?

          • stickfigurefairytales

Actually, the Death card in tarot doesn’t literally mean that you’re doing to die! (I mean, you will *someday*, bar deals with a demon for immortality, but…) It often symbolizes regeneration and transformation.

          • Okay I know nothing about Tarot… don’t you need to know a bunch of stuff. Birthdays’s and moons rising and stuff like that? Seriously?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            That’s astrology.

          • Holly

No. Normally the person just puts their hands on the cards to infuse their energy into the cards. This is just for a laugh though.

          • Holly

Do YOU want me to ask the cards a question for you Chris? Just for fun? ^_^

          • Chris’s question “Will we find out Spooky’s orientation in this back story?”

          • Oh that’s good…

          • Holly

Oh we are opening this can of worms? Next you all will be asking what Kyle’s love life looks like? Or if George will come to our dimension.

But since it was asked… I WILL ASK THE CARDS!

          • LOL, sorry Holly love, but it did seem like a logical question Chris would ask….

          • Holly

            The Reading
Past: Recognizing the negative in you and accepting it or hiding from it. (THE DEVIL. That is the past card for this question. THE DEVIL. I just… I can’t)
Present: Horrible things beyond your control are happening. Just accept them and move on.
Future: A plan can backfire if you don’t use your abilities properly. Rely on friends and resources.
            Advice: Change your attitude.

So um I don’t think this answers Chris’ question but, I dunno, I feel like it might fit…or something…

          • Wow…..yeah it kind of does…..wow…..

            Holly is magick!!!

          • Holly

            Doki… I’m scared.

          • *hugs and makes soothing sounds* It’s okay hunny, weird things happen sometimes. It’s okay.

          • Holly

            BUNNY ^^

          • Um what should I ask?

          • Librarican

Sorry, thought Doki was going first. I’ll wait and go after you, unless the page materializes before then.

          • Mine was already answered ^_^

          • stickfigurefairytales

I think Holly is answering one for Chris right now, so then you’re next.

          • Holly

            ask

          • Librarican

Sorry, I’m on my laptop instead of my iPad, and it’s really slow. Question: I guess what does my future hold? Or does it have to be more specific?

          • Holly

            Yes be more specific.

          • Librarican

Okay…. Is work going to get easier?
EDIT: Alot of things are up in the air right now in my life, but I guess that’s probably most pressing.

          • Holly

            Your reading:
            Past: Love will grown stronger
            Present: Love feels one sided.
Future: Your hard work will pay off
Advice; Take a look at yourself, and your place in the world. You will emerge as a better person.

            Does that help?

          • Librarican

Feels like it could apply to my job and my love life both, but it’s nice words of encouragement all the same.

      • mogoskier

Yay, found you. Now how do you do this over the internet.

  • Back from the sorta nap I just had. Just closed my eyes and dozed most of the time since the noise from the wind kept me awake. Not sure if taking the nap was a good idea or bad, but I’ll try to stick out till the page now…

    It’s gonna be hard! xD

    • stickfigurefairytales

Maybe we’ll start singing lullabies to try and thwart our competition…I don’t know how that would work in comment form, though.

      • I don’t need a lullaby to be out of the competition much right now *lol* Doing a long night at the end of the work week without having had a nap yesterday.. clearly not something that comes easy to me anymore 😉

        • stickfigurefairytales

Aw, I’m sorry. I hope you’re able to get a good night’s rest after everything is done!

  • silibub

Hey, all! So…it’s still Friday where I am, but it’s the 15th somewhere, right? *snaps on party hat* Everyone should indulge in some cake or some other dessert of their choice!

    • Happy still pi day with me Silibub! (at least still pi day for 35 more minutes)

    • Holly

      Techincally IT IS PIE MONTH!

      • stickfigurefairytales

OMIGOSH YOU’RE RIGHT!!! I am so excited now!!!!

      • strangeangel24601

I made chicken pot pie for dinner. :3

    • Hello!!! Welcome. Nice to see you all dressed in your campwear. 🙂

      • silibub

You bet. Formal clothes but silly headwear, this is how I roll.

        • Nope I picture you with a staff like Sircea and something in Silver….

          • silibub

Nice intuition — I do love silver!

  • Fox Sister just updated 🙂

… if nothing else, I got the first comment on that one unexpectedly. Not that it’s a comic where Sapfo and I compete, but we both read it *lol*

    • stickfigurefairytales

Hey, a win is a win.

    • Sapfo

Does this mean I am back at being your #2 again.
For if you start to treat me like Rhys threats Zep, I will run the other way, Sire.

      • *hugs* Hi Sapfo…..I might have dome something questionable…

        • Sapfo

          Okay?

          • …..Holly was doing tarot readings for fun….I made a suggestion for a question for Chris…..look at the result….

      • Think I’m leaving the hunting to you today. I’m very close to giving up, even this close to the page, and go to bed. I’m nearly falling asleep in my chair, so I’m tired!

        • Sapfo

          Hunting?
After two weeks away from work, I have to back today (Why do I have to go back on camping day for? :()
So if Alex don´t update in 15 min, it will be no hunt for me.

          • Aw yeah that’s right. You work this morning. Well I hope it will be oki for you today.
I also hope Alwx updates in the next 15mins, or I might really have to just go to bed before the page is up o_o

          • Sapfo

Alex, please update now….. <..> did it work?

          • Holly

No. Do you want a tarot reading?

          • Sapfo

I am of to work in 5 min.

          • Holly

            SADNESS!!! T_T

          • Madock345

Seems unfair that everybody but you is getting a reading. Do you want me to do one for you? (Warning: I own a tarot deck but have never done a serious reading. Results may vary.)

        • stickfigurefairytales

Poor you! Get some good rest, Danish.

      • Morning, Miss Sapfo!

        • Sapfo

Good morning Admiral. Killed any the enemy this night? Or have everything been calm?

          • All calm on the TYP front. 😀

          • Sapfo

That is good Admiral, carrier on the good work. ^_^

          • Will do! ^_^

        • stickfigurefairytales

Hi AJ! I didn’t get to greet you yet.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Hi Sapfo!

  • silibub

I know at least one other person has suggested this, but it would be interesting if the “remains” are actually Spooky, and once Amanda gets in there and reads his mind she’ll be like, “…He’s not dead.”

    • stickfigurefairytales

      !!!

  • Madock345

Am I early, or is camping quiet tonight?

    • stickfigurefairytales

      It’s been fairly lively, actually.

    • Holly

Quite lively. There are discussion. And Tarot reading. One that basically recreated the plot of the last chapter which SCARED ME.

      • Madock345

So… Neither, I’m just blind and forgot how to click the “show new comments” button. Dammit.

        • Holly

          Oh darn!

        • stickfigurefairytales

          D’oh!

      • mogoskier

Wait where are the tarot reading I love that stuff

        • Holly

I am doing them. They are lower in the comments.

  • Sapfo

    Okay good campers and Alex.
I am of to work now. Hope to join you some when I am on the train. But there will be no virgin hunting for me. I repeat: No Virgin Hunting!
    I am sorry dear virgin, I will leave you in the hands of someone else. May you forgive me for this. ;_;

    • silibub

Have a good day at work!

    • Have a lovely train ride and a fun day at work!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Have a good day, Sapfo! We’ll miss you!

    • Goodbye my sweet Sapfo.

    • *hugs* Have a nice and safe train ride love, and a good day at work!

    • Holly

Have a lovely day at work!

…Unless this is all a ruse, then you have no shame. XP

    • Have a great day dear Sapfo! 🙂

  • So tired I can hardly keep my eyes open, but now I’ve gotten stubborn xD
Soon anyway, and I’ll go to be quickly after.

  • davefragments

I almost missed the camping. Any word of the new page?

    • Holly

A while ago Danish took a nap for 45 minutes and Alex told her that would be okay. But that was a WHILE ago. so NO.

  • Holly

I just wanted to repost this up here so everyone would see. So 45 minutes ago during my Tarot Reading fun, Doki and Chris asked a question about Spooky together. THIS IS THE READING!

Freaky, no? It’s basically the plot of the first part of chapter 3.

    • And Doki has decided she will not suggest questions for others anymore…..

      • It’s okay. I did ask for help.

Edit: and I’m not dead yet.

        • Thank you Chris, but what if I helped someone again, and something freaky like that happened again? Hmmm I guess I should stock up on cute baby bunny pictures……..

        • Sapfo

You might be a zombie. Have checked that?
(On the train now. Wishing I was home so I could camp for real)

          • Holly

Sapfo is so how going to get the virgin on the train. Like a few moments before her stop, the page will go up and she will snatch it with her magic.

    • What’s funny is I just had to make the dude a meal and so I wondered if my reading ever came out and DING! You answered.

    • Madock345

“A Plan may backfire”? That doesn’t sound good.

      I worry for Spooky…

      • Holly

Only if he doesn’t properly use his powers, friends, and resources.

      • stickfigurefairytales

Plus, plans backfiring at some point during the dramatic confrontation is part and parcel of the superhero world! It just means you need to come up with a new plan fast.

        • Holly

Someone should save this somewhere and see how right it ends up being. LOL

      • Librarican

It’s an IF though, “A plan can backfire if you don’t use your abilities properly” So that might just be encouragement to get over his fear of his powers. He has to rely on his resources, and that means learning to tap them and control them so he can put them to use instead of letting them sit dormant.

    • silibub

Are you still doing readings, Holly, or are you officially freaked?

      • Holly

Well all my readings for actual people turned out well and accurate. So if you have a question about yourself, I can do one.

If you want to ask questions about the TYP universe… I’m officially freaked.

        • silibub

Haha, okay! It’s my birthday tomorrow/today, (depending on the time zone), so what’s this next year going to be like for me?

          • It is Sat here, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

          • silibub

            Thank you!!

          • Holly

            HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Okay let’s see.

          • Happy Birthday!

          • silibub

            *blows noisemaker* Thank you!

          • Holly

Is it okay if I just do the diamond formation for you? It’s past, present, future, and advice. I think that should answer what your year will be like. Okay?

          • silibub

            Sounds great!

          • Holly

            The reading
Past: Strength and Confidence. You are a winner!
            Present:Luck and Opportunities arise.
Future: Opportunities! An extra push toward your goals. Someone from your past may return.
Advice: Look deeply at yourself and your relationships, you might find something amazing.

            HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Yay! That was a good one!

          • silibub

Wow, that was more optimistic than I was expecting — thanks a million!

          • Holly

I know it’s pretty damn awesome. Winner, Opprtunities, Opportunities!

          • Hope tomorrow is a great day!

          • Holly

YOU WERE BORN ON THE IDES OF MARCH! HAPPY CAESAR DEATH DAY!!!

          • silibub

WE SHOULD TOTALLY JUST STAB CAESAR!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Happy birthdya, silibub!!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Also, happy birth*day*.

          • silibub

            LOL, thanks for both!

          • mogoskier

            Happy Birthday

          • That is wonderful… Happy Birthday!!!

          • Sapfo

Birthday hugs to you Sili! Have a great day.

  • Librarican

Discqus just ate my fortune on my end. Now I don’t get the fortune or the cookie. How rude! If the baking takes much longer, I’ll be giving up and heading to bed as well.

    • Holly

I will go find it. One sec

    • Holly

      Your reading:
      Past: Love will grown stronger
      Present: Love feels one sided.
Future: Your hard work will pay off
Advice; Take a look at yourself, and your place in the world. You will emerge as a better person.

      Does that help?

      • Librarican

Yes, thank you Holly! I’ve been talking about getting a new laptop for a while now, but I’ve been holding off. Once the tax refund arrives that will be first on the buy list!

    • stickfigurefairytales

Man, I’m indignant for you *and* I want a fortune cookie!

  • davefragments

I’m watching THOR: THE DARK WORLD which is somewhat of a distraction but let me say this. . .

It’s the artwork that’s probably causing the lateness. All those details.
Did anyone else notice the handcuffs on the policeman in the first frame?

    • stickfigurefairytales

Not to mention all the tiny little bits for the Lieutenant Colonel’s medals.

      • Madock345

I just noticed I can almost read her name tag in Panel 2. Can anybody tell what it says?

        • stickfigurefairytales

          I would guess it’s Charleyboy.

          • Madock345

Oh… I guess I was hoping it might include a first name, but I guess most badges like that don’t. I’m not very familiar with military uniforms.

          • Holly

            I think it’s Du….. or Bu…….

          • Rick C

Military name tags only have the last name with rare exceptions when two people in the same unit have the same last name and it might cause operational confusion.
Badges are worn so that facing them, the highest medals are on the top left as you face the person, with lesser awards on the right and down, in order of precedence given the medals.
The only one I think I recognize is the United Nations Service Medal–the one with the blue and white stripes on the right of the fourth row. The picture’s too pixilated for me to make out others, but if you want to join the guessing game, most of the AF medals are listed here: http://www.afpc.af.mil/library/awards/

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Thanks, Rick!

          • stickfigurefairytales

Hmm, I can’t remember for sure, but I don’t think they usually include first names.

    • Librarican

I noticed the city that would preceed PD on the jackets, hats, and badges was conspicuously left out of the picture.

    • Randy Patton

The artwork in this book is actually very nice. The single point perspective….and even the perspective on the ceiling tiles in the rooms that are not in the storyline, is great. Then there’s the water fountain, and all the other detailed work. Very well done.

    • DC

I’m probably just remembering things incorrectly but I thought I remember Amanda’s pants were blue. Because I remember thinking she had the same colour pants on as the Colonel and thinking it was some kind of uniform too

      • …..I think they were too….when did that happen???

        • DC

good it is not just me
I remember thinking jeans or uniform?
It seems to have happened during refreshing the page

          • Alex and Veronica are trying to play with our minds!!! Make us think we are crazy…..

          • DC

exactly, I was almost too embarrassed to make that comment thank goodness you replied. I was sitting here thinking OMg they will all think I am completely bonkers

          • Well, we can be bonkers together DC, it isn’t so bad once you get used to it. ^_^

      • Librarican

In my memory they have always been beige, but I’d like to point out the similar stances from the waist down for both Amanda and the Lt. Col. in the last panel, which makes me think they are related or spend an awful lot of time together.

        • I don’t remember Amanda popping out so much in that last panel….and the khaki pants make her pop out of that scene more…

      • KryX

I happened to have saved the page when it first came out. The young woman’s pants were blue. Are we sure it’s Amanda?

        • davefragments

There’s a mention of who is in the page that’s linked to all pages that they appear in at the bottom of Alex’s writeup.

          • KryX

Thanks for pointing that out. I never noticed before.

        • DC

at the bottom of this picture it says featuring Commander

        • DC, we aren’t crazy!!!!

        • stickfigurefairytales

The mystery of the transforming pants!

      • davefragments

You are correct. Last Wednesday they were blue. Tonight they are beige or khaki or taupe (Like I know what taupe actually looks like) . . .

  • silibub

I’m going to take a shower and see if that summons the page!

    • Holly

IF I get the virgin I will dedicate it to your birthday!

    • Sapfo

Wow, a shower-show. Is it getting hot in here or is it just the steam from the shower? 😉

      • Holly

You can’t look at the birthday girl in her birthday suit? That’s just…NO! *shoos saf*

      • silibub

        Good god, hahaha!

  • That’s it. We’re so close to the page but I’m bowing out. I’m nodding off in my seat constantly, more asleep than awake.
Good night everyone and happy hunting to those who do. I’ll see the page when I wake up sometimes later today.

    • Holly

Both Sapfo and DW bowing out?! MY GOD!

    • Night and sweet dreams Danish love!!! Dream of your OTP!!!

    • mogoskier

night, have sweet dreams of hot superheros

    • Holly

      Sweet dreams DW!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Goodnight, Danish! Sleep well!

    • Night Danish!

    • Librarican

Good night Danish! Heading there myself.

  • Holly

I’m not giving up yet, but I have to be up early Sunday. So I can’t be up too late tonight. So I’m giving it another 50 minutes. (maybe less, I’m feeling sleepy)

    • I have been sleepy for 2 hours. I was up from 7 am, with a not so restful nap in the afternoon, and it is 1 am now.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Poor Doki!

        • Had to go with my grandmother to get her blood work done.

          • stickfigurefairytales

That was nice of you, though.

          • If I had a license I would take away her keys…..that woman is going to kill me one day…..either giving me a heart attack or I will get hit by oncoming traffic….

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Oh dear…

          • *sigh* Yeah….my brother says she is only that bad when I am in the car…..beginning to think she is trying to kill me……

      • Holly

poor dear. I don’t know how many hours I got last night because I have weird shivers. (Caffeine plus trying to sleep?) But I laid down at 3 and got up at 10am and have been up since.

        It’s 2:15 now.

        • Well, whenever I worked the 7-4 shift where I used to work, right around 5 I would 9 times out of 10 completely pass out at 5…..no matter how much or well I slept.

    • mogoskier

I came home from school around 430 fell asleep and woke up at 930. I am ready for anything.

      • Holly

haha yeah I have that problem a lot. hence why I didn’t nap today. That and i couldn’t be faffed to take out my contacts until a few hours ago.

    • Elrohir

Yes sleepy…you’re all getting sleepy…you can’t keep your eyes open any longer…drift off into dreamland…
Sorry, just trying to thin the competition. 🙂

  • Adam Black

    Hey party people,
    let the real festivities start!

    • Holly

You missed tarot card reading. :C

      • Adam Black

That sounds like a reading, on all on its own.

maybe we can do Cube readings.

    • Hey Adam!!!

      • Adam Black

        yo

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Hi Adam!

      • Adam Black

        hi sticky

    • Sapfo

I am ready to party!…. Where did everyone go?

  • Holly

That’s it. I’m calling it! Time of Sleep; 2:30am.

I, too, am out of the virgin hunt. WAY too tired to go for even a few more minutes. Night all!

    • *hugs* Night Holly sweet! Sweet dreams!!

    • mogoskier

      Good night, sweet dreams

    • Night!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      Goodnight Holly!

    • Holly

Aww so close. But I just can’t do it. 🙁

    • Librarican

Everyone should have gone to bed earlier I guess, but I can’t last either. Happy hunting!

    • Adam Black

      i slept all day
      Up all night
      damn!
      I forgot to ask @disqus_5yYGRkSeuL:disqus :

Do Androids dream of Robotic Sheep?

      • mogoskier

Did you just quote dbz abridged

        • stickfigurefairytales

Actually, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” was originally the title of a scifi novel by Philip K. Dick, and was what the movie Bladerunner was based on.

          • Elrohir

And if memory serves, his book
“We can remember if for you wholesale”
is what the movie(s) “Total Recall” were based on.
**sorry, couldn’t resist the memory play**

      • Elrohir

“Sleep all day. Party all night. Live Forever.”
        – Lost Boys
        couldn’t resist

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Isn’t the quote “electric sheep”?

        • Elrohir

Yup. Title actually, the Phillip K Dick book that Bladerunner is based on.

          • stickfigurefairytales

            That’s what I thought.

      • Holly

I’m not a replicant! You are cyberneticaly racist!

  • Howdy, campers! Page is baking in the oven. Shouldn’t be too much longer. Within the next 30 minutes is how things are looking. 🙂

    • davefragments

      yay!

    • And be careful with Tarot readings for The Young Protectors characters. Those cards tap into the True Reality much more readily than the Shadow Reality we spend our waking days in.

And, of course, which reality do you think Spooky exists in….?

      • Holly

Okay so I am more officially freaked now than I was before. Damn @Chris Dangerfield:disqus and @Dokidokibaka:disqus.

This is going to cause some interesting dreams…

      • Well Spooky clearly exists in a reality with really cool trench coats… I need to stop by that reality tomorrow and pick one up. 🙂

        • Adam Black

          Matrix?
          Ghost facers?
          Flashers anonymous?
          Spookaholics?

      • Adam Black

I call that shadow reality Nighttime.
        up since 630 pm

  • davefragments

What I want to know is why does Detective Parker (the guy) have such a strong jaw that reminds me of the Annihilator and that NOSE . . . gee that NOSE. It’s a nose I’ve seen before. Like dude, it enters the frame before the rest of him. I wonder what sort of camphor he needs in the morgue. Morgues kinda smell bad.

As Jimmy Durante once said – the Nose knows! and he had the biggest honker I’ve ever seen on TV.

    • stickfigurefairytales

How do we know that Detective Parker is the guy?

      • davefragments

Because Detective Tutt was the speaker in Panel 2 that got Charlieboy’s answer about the Pentagon

        • stickfigurefairytales

Ah, I’d missed the mention of her name! Thank you!

    • Where did you find Detective Parker’s name? I’ve missed some names. Thanks.

      • davefragments

Look at the very bottom of the writeup below the LIKE and SHARE buttons and above the Donations bar.

    • davefragments

And speaking of large flabby things, I”m watching the end of FAILURE TO LAUNCH (Please end my miser, alex, this movie sucks) and aside from an insipid and silly ROM-COM with Mathew the Body in it — it is memorable or a large flabby appearance of the over ly large, white and flabby buttocks of Terry Bradshaw.

I have three rules in life: Not ed! No Mayo! and Never appear before a camera naked.

    • science

You got me looking closer at him, and I know it’s crazy but he might be the Annihilator’s twin brother or something xD Then again, knowing Alex, is it really that crazy of a theory?

      • davefragments

Unless the Annihilator ages real fast, it’s not the right number of years.
Of course that might be a tidy plot twist — the Fountain of Youth spell wears off and you age fast.

        • science

Or perhaps it’s his son? It is plausible that their age gap is about 20 or so years. But I’m hell-bent on them being related, even if their relationship is uncle/nephew or second cousins.

If it is his son, that has me thinking… Is Duncan actually gay, or did he just make that up to seduce Kyle? He’s pretty famous in this universe so that information is probably open to the general public, but Kyle seemed surprised to figure out that Anni was gay. So either he’s not up to speed on the stats of the major supervillains, or Duncan flat-out lied to him about his sexuality. I’m interested in what the truth is here.

          • Could be younger brother

          • Elrohir

**Elrohir <== really wishing he could remember all of Merry's "Third cousin twice removed on his mother's side…" discussion from the scene at "The Prancing Pony" in Bree.**

          • Haha! I will pretend that you did. 🙂

          • davefragments

            that’s another possibility

My third NOSE treaties comes from Shostakovich.

Dear Dimitri wrote an OPERA titled THE NOSE.

Of course in Russian “NOS” is phonetically NOSE and a man at a barber shop loses his nose. It just disturbs the real world and gets up and leaves while he’s getting a shave. So the man has to try to find it. his girlfriend objects terribly and almost dumps him. he goes to a newspaper office and tries to place a personal ad for his missing nose. Then the nose makes an appearance as a fat man on a railway station. There is a delightful five minute percussion interlude which is a premonition of (I forget the lady’s name)… Eventuall order is restored and the NOSE returns to his face — all is well with the world and Shostakovich takes us back to a happy world.

YAY! I didn’t miss camping! Just got back from work! 😀

All the discussion of detail, I just noticed the police officer in Panel 2 on the far left. Looking back…just at a strange group? A Lt. Col ? Somebody’s backside? I couldn’t decide if he’s supposed to be doing the “guy thing” of checking out talent or curiosity or both. But I like the 40’s/50’s style peaked cap as opposed to the newer generation stiff ones. Thoughts?

I have suit envy. Well, okay, it’s technically dress uniform, but damn do I love a good suit.

Is “exsec” supposed to be “exec”? I can’t tell what it’s supposed to mean.

    • Ravyn DeLevain

Ex-SEC. SEC is the Securities and Exchange Commission. It’s one of the acronyms you don’t hear as often as you hear CIA and FBI.
