So! Commander can’t tell if The Annihilator’s memory loss is real or if he’s faking!

What do you think? Has The Annihilator’s memory changed along with his body? And how will Kyle respond to Young Anni’s request for warmth?

Tune in this Saturday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Blank or blank? That is the question. Two ways to be it.

    • Auntie Mumpsimus

Every single one of us is human, and as good as can possibly be with the cards we are dealt. It would be nice to see someone stacking this guy’s “hand” in favor of him being, y’know, not an asshole, even if he’s not a complete blank slate.

  • Morgan

Oh.. Anni don’t make me feel bad for you.

  • jreed3842

    Wow…. O.o

  • Nofsky8

Ehhhh, so cute, but he might be evil, must resist!

    • Auntie Mumpsimus

You sound like that shoulder angel thing whenever I want to take leopard cubs home from the zoo…

  • Needless to say truth or not, I am not sure he should be placed with TYP. I don’t see that ending well. Just like that epsiode of SGA where they turn a Wraith into a human. It doesn’t end well because just being what he is makes people uncomfortable and he picks up on it. Things don’t go well after that.

    • stickfigurefairytales

But if he does still have his powers (or regains them at some point in the future), what else could they do with him? I definitely don’t see any of the mainstream teams handling this well.

      • *shrugs* Try to find someone who isn’t going to have a personal grudge against him and will overlook his past as a mentor? I don’t really think any of the YP would be able to do that.

        • stickfigurefairytales

I think Kyle might actually be able to, but it could also very easily be just too weird for him.

          • I think Kyle would need some time before being able to treat Tiny Duncan as if nothing had happened. Kyle needs to take care of Kyle first.

          • NoiseShaper

and with his mental block still working, it will take some time to gain some trust in the first place

    • Nirgal

Also, with him being gay, Kyle being gay, Mitch being gay and Spooks being a sex god, Fluke and Tsu would be seriously outnumbered as the ladygoing side of TYP. (Although they might be bromosexual themselves)

      • Jet Allen

…I mean, though… did it ever get confirmed that Amanda’s totally straight…?

        • Curt Clark

Eh, girl loves her some teammate-on-teammate yaoi. Never SEEN her display any attraction to chicks, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

  • Sapfo

    Need a blanketfort! Now!

  • stickfigurefairytales

Well I’d be finding him a blanket right about now, but I think I’ve already determined that I am incredibly gullible when it comes to trusting characters, so that might be a bad call.

    • Dartania

I see no reason not to give the baddie a blanket and maybe a small bonfire from the destroyed trees. No harm can come from a bit of compassion there. It’s when you put your own wellbeing on the line for someone unknown that it becomes an issue. No need to leave him uncomfortable.

    • Auntie Mumpsimus

Liking your kindness and solving of the obvious problem, not the dissing of the trust that comes naturally from being a trustworthy person yourself.

      • Dartania

Agreed. Seeing the good in people, even where there is none, should not be dissed. Seeing the good in people can conjure that good into being. Showing compassion can make people change their minds.

        • Auntie Mumpsimus

          Very well put.

    • Juliette Leroux

A kid is cold, you bring a blanket. Evil or not evil is not the point I think. This can be discussed with him wrapped in a blanket.

  • Saxon_Brenton

Okay then. The heroes are both taking things calmly and rationally. I’m happy, even if the situation is a cliffhanger witheven more questions to be resolved.

    • There’s certainly unanswered questions enough to be answered in the next arc. Will this be another one perhaps.

  • Earl Patterson

Hope Kyle will strip to naked and use his suit as blanket him

    • Curt Clark

…he’s a pyrokinetic, now with far greater control over his flame than he ever had before. I think he can stay clothed while safely warming a cold child (who may be a tetch too young to be seeing Red Hot peen anyway). :p

    • Jet Allen

That’s, uhh, a bit too creepy for Kyle to be doing considering Duncan’s a kid now. Especially considering he’s a pyromancer, and Amanda has her jacket anyway.

  • davefragments

I wonder if the Red Cross will show up with coffee, blankets, and temporary housing? It’s an odd night and rain has addled me…

  • Klaus

Kyle is eminently capable of doing something about cold,

    • Wayne Lunkwitz

I agree…….and now that he has better control…..he could “warm” Little Dunky without burning him to a crisp!

  • camelotcrusade

Maybe Spooky or the PP could magically change Duncan back. Or at least give him decent hair. Come on.

  • davefragments

¶ Back in Chapter 2, pages 1 to 7… Duncan and Kyle have a discussion about Duncan’s life of crime at the warehouse where their first date occurs. We no know that Duncan is seducing Kyle but he hasn’t a reason to lie about his past. Lying would only make it more difficult for him to seem sincere. After all, Kyle has researched Duncan’s life.
¶ In those pages Duncan says that he started his life of crime when he took revenge on the bullies who tormented him. Almost in an aside, he drops the line that after making the bullies pay, he was on the run and there was no turning back from crime.
¶ So we get down to Nature versus Nurture — Was Duncan made a criminal by being bullied? Or does Duncan have a built in propensity to be a criminal?
It’s the old “fate” question — Do we have a predestined fate to be what we are? Or can we change that? Or can our surroundings change us? What determines that outcome — genetics, social conditions, or a conscious choice?

    • Kate G

You said nature vs. nurture and immediately Wicked’s “No One Mourns the Wicked” starts playing in my head. There’s a line where Glinda says, “Are people born wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”

It’s this epic intro that sets up not only Elphaba’s (the Wicked Witch of the West’s) end, but her beginning. It’s one of my favorite songs from a musical.

      • Curt Clark

The ending of that song in particular never fails to make me cry.

        • Kate G

Many, many Wicked songs make me cry. “I’m Not That Girl?” I sobbed when Stephanie Block sang that one in Chicago. SOBBED. Let’s not forget “For Good.” – cries into blanket –

      • Now all of a sudden I am picturing Duncan singing “Defying Gravity” with Platinum Priestess as Glinda.

        • Kate G

HA HA HA HA HA HA.

Or Kyle as Elphaba and Tsunami as Glinda. *dying whale sounds* Just imagine Tsu in the giant blue ball gown for a minute.

          • HA! I love it!

I am so ready for The Young Protector’s rendition of Wicked! Haha.

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

Well……he’s cold……time to warm the poor little guy up;)…….sounds like his mind has been totally “wiped”…..might be a good chance he can be re-shaped into a decent law abiding citizen!

    • NoiseShaper

Amanda couldn’t access Duncan’s mind before either and that it still is the case would seem to mean that at least that special capability is still there. And no easy way to check whether Duncan is just trying to trick them…

  • Jeldenil

Does he even know who he is?

  • Auntie Mumpsimus

Going by his hair whorl, he appears to be left-handed. To the archives!

    • Kate G

Not exactly. Depending on the study, righties have whirls going clockwise with a small percentage going counterclockwise. Lefties and ambies have a mixtures of counterclockwise and clockwise whirls.

This is odd as my brother is a rightie and has a mixture. *shrugs* My nephew is probably going to be ambidextrous considering how he eats and plays. XD

      Source:
      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1462764/

      • davefragments

I have two whorls. What does that make me?

        • Kate G

          Human?

          • davefragments

I’ll give you a hint — my brother and I were an only child

  • Eris, elder daughter of Nyx

Help him, even if things seem uncertain! Redemption for the WIN!

  • Zephyr10101

    Leave him

  • Nate

Damn… “Set puppy-dog eyes to full!”

I’ve spoken before regarding my “Nate-hugs™”. Dunkie makes me want to give him one something fierce. in the last panel. But if he still has that mental shield, I can’t entirely trust him, no matter how much I want to.

And I _really_ want to. 🙂

    • Saxon_Brenton

Oh yeah… Puppy-dog eyes. Sorry, I was kinda distracted by the ears (sticky-outy and subtly too big for him).
(Have we sung the praise of the art team recently? We really should do that more often…)

      • Curt Clark

The ‘too-big’ness really adds to his youth and vulnerability.

      • Nate

Given that I had much the same problem when I was his age, I was not particularly distracted. 🙂

  • How can Duncan enjoy his youth if he doesn’t realize that he had been nearing retirement age?

    • Klaus

The deal did not include enjoyment.

      • Derkins

Or retention of memories, apparently! Such a typical deal with the devil. Duncan should’ve known better. >:)
I wonder if PP is going to turn up in this comic again, too. I’d like to see what she’s like now! Think she just loose 5985 years of memories and “experience points”?

        • NoiseShaper

…and as much time of studying magic, which may be way worse for her than for Duncan who will just grow into his powers again.

And if that insanity contamination still holds, she may actually be unable to re-learn it at all!

          • Derkins

Unless he truly did lose his powers forever, and now he’s simply a young immortal — which is it’s own super power.

          • NoiseShaper

            Indeed!

      • True, but I’m sure Duncan thought it would.

  • Arkone Axon

My question: is he the only one who received payment from Kyle’s father? Or is that witch now once again restored to her youth as well?

    • bronakopdin

sadly an excellent question I don’t even want to think about yet >////////<

      • Nate

I’m suddenly picturing Sircea returned to her youth as well… about 7 years old. 😀

        • Michael Losti

I picture a Sircea youthed down, but while retaining her memories. Unfortunately, youthed down not to 16 years, but to 16 weeks, not even able to make her vocal chords form various nicknames for Lamproos she came up with.

          • Nate

I just want to see her in pigtails stomping her feet and screaming “I’m a pretty princess!!!”

          • davefragments

There’s something so emotionally satisfying about that image of Sircea.

          • Curt Clark

This mental image is perfect. We just need her to find a loving family who’s oblivious to her vitriol, just to ensure she survives long enough for the first words out of her mouth to BE those affectionate nicknames for Laampros.

  • bronakopdin

n’wwwww omfg… he is too cute.. I can’t help myself… can I hug him please?!?!??!?!
    I don’t care (yet) whether it’s a bluff x’DDD

  • Interesting – if Duncan really doesn’t remember being the Annihilator, he doesn’t know who these people are, but he still trusts them enough to ask for help. Duncan did say on the date from hell that he was a superhero fan as a child.

    • Juliette Leroux

Indeed, but anyway he’s alone, cold in a strange place that has been burned to the ground. It’s pretty normal he asks help from the present grownups.

      • Klaus

The boy Duncan seeking help from the grownup Kyle.

  • bronakopdin

I suddenly had to remember the scene just after Duncan and Kyle came back from Laampros where Duncan kinda revealed his intentions and all BUT also said it might have been different between them in other circumstances and that Kyle would deserve better anyway since Duncan knew who he was and he was like that for to long already…. somehow this reeks of “different circumstances” with a Duncan “not yet who he was for too long” 😀

though I can’t remember the exact pages and have no time to look them up rn but it must have been at the end of chapter 2 somewhere ^^

    • Klaus

Just under Alex’ comments there is a button for each character on the on the page. If you click The Annihilator, you will get an overview of all pages where he appears. This is usually the easiest way to find a page you want. Though maybe not in this case, where you now it is one of the last pages of chapter 2.

      • bronakopdin

oh thanks, I had no idea, but with charas appearing this often it might even be hard with the filter if one does not have a general idea of where it happened x’D
thanks anyway it might be useful in the future!

    • davefragments

      Chapter 2 pages 47 to 49
It’s under the ARCHIVES link on top of this page.
      or here:
      http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/typ/ete-ch2-page-47/

      • bronakopdin

well yes thanks, I wasn’t really trying to explicitely look them up, I just remembered the scene and mainly thought it might trigger a discussion, though the only discussion that arose seems to be how to find the correct pages, in a way nice, bc it was the most unexpected LOL thumbs up me xDD

        • davefragments

From the exchange in Chapter 2, I get the impression that Duncan’s revenge on the boys who bullied him was quite drastic and violent. He almost says that in that it was a turning point without a way back to normal life.
If his amnesia is as robust as his age reversal, then he has a second chance.

          • bronakopdin

indeed that and I totally hope he will be able to use it!
Then again his former self sadly left an impression on everyone in the world… so as long as everyone will know who he actually is, I fear he will be somehow avoided or disadvantaged which sadly might lead to a similiar outcome…
So hopefully there is no universal law that will make him end up the same x’D
Though I am confident Alex will tell a story I ca’t even try to imagine r come up with beforehand xD

          • Klaus

If indeed he has regressed past that point. His powers did not manifest until puberty. After that, he took his revenge. He did not say when during puberty his powers manifested or how long after that he took his revenge. Now he has regressed to 15 or 16 years old. Did he have powers then? Had he taken his revenge by then? That is anybody’s guess.

  • Karol Chmielewski

Dunky is so cute I love this development 😀

  • Mary Klemzak

Hnnng. I’m so torn! Baby face innocent Duncan needs help. They can work with a blank slate like this. Fill him in about what happened, and invite him to be a YP? He develops a huge crush on Kyle, but Kyles in love with Spooky, and they’re now working out their own stuff, but thats OK, Kyle still takes Duncan on as a little brother type?

Maybe I’m hoping for too much?

    • Michael Losti

Flyboy, Spooky, is nobody thinking of poor Paul?

      • Curt Clark

Is poor Paul even gay or bi?

        • NoiseShaper

          Nope!

        • Klaus

The only Kinsey 0 in the YP, according to the cards. Even Gordon is a 1.

      • Mary Klemzak

I don’t ship people who don’t really seem to like to be shipped. Paul/Fluke seems to be straight, but an ally.

  • Will Parkinson

    So Flyboy needs a boyfriend…

    • I’d say he likely has one in Cory. There was certainly still chemistry there.

    • Jet Allen

…Yeah, I thought Mitch and Corey were a legitimate thing.

      • Curt Clark

        Aren’t they?

        • Jet Allen

I’d hope so, since they seem to be really sweet together, but it seems people have either forgotten about or dismissed him.

  • Mir

If I was Kyle all i’d be thinking is “we just had sex not too long ago and you don’t even know it…”

I wonder if they’re going to accept what happened has happened or try to find a way to revert him back? If that’s even possible.

    • HermeticallySealed

I see nothing worthwhile in returning him to his previous self. If he has indeed lost his memory, being truly reverted back to his youth, then everything that was “The Annihilator” is gone, as much as if he were dead. Duncan (by his statements) only turned to villainy in response for the way the world treated him for being gay. If they were going to treat him like he was scum, and tell him that was he was was, then he was just going to give them that.

Now (again assuming he has been reset), he has the chance to make choices in his life among those who accept him as he is. I see no reason that they shouldn’t give him that chance.

  • Klaus

I wonder how many people just happen to be unreadable to Amanda even with no other powers.

  • Tristan Black Wolf

The true challenge of one’s best self: Can you show kindness and caring to someone helpless and in need, even if he was (and might still be) your enemy? As Leo Buscaglia said, “It is the weak who are cruel; the strong can afford to be gentle.” You’ve proven your strength, good Protectors; now prove your compassion.

    • ofwaterfall

We already know Kyle can. He had embraced Duncan immediately before the fight with Laampos. This is just unexpected.

    • Derkins

This makes me want to go back to the date scenes and see if Duncan talks about himself as a young boy.

      • Klaus

Look to the start of chapter two.

    • Curt Clark

      I agree with this.

I am THRILLED that Kyle/Spooky seems to be where it’s going, but I don’t believe that excuses mistreatment of a child with (seemingly) no memory, even if that child used to be the Annihilator

  • Andy Diehl

If Annihi-laddie feels cold does that suggest he doesn’t have invulnerability anymore? Of course he could be faking… He’s not wearing any less clothing than anyone else, and they’re all surrounded by smoldering rubble.

    • Could be shock.

    • Ray johnson

invulnerability dos not mean he can’t feel, i means he can feel it but it won’t kill him, or he can withstand it more. also as a child it could be that his power is not as strong as it could be.

    • Terry

Invulnerability to damage from cold doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel it. If the clock was turned back on his memory, he’s probably not disciplined enough yet to just ignore discomfort. Alternately, his invulnerability could have been achieved over time and exposure to injury, etc. (similar to how a character’s power works in the Super Powereds series by Drew Hayes) His body could toughen in response to harm, in which case, young Duncan would not have that exposure. Particularly if he is reformed in perfect health.

  • AseretZone

Okay, wow, I just got caught up. Wow. You go, Kyle! Also, Anni is young now. Wow.

In other news, Nathaniel is 2 years old today~!

  • *Hadn’t been on Twitter since yesteray*
    Me: covfefe???
*goes to Twitter to find out*
Me: Oh, it’s HIM again. Nevermind xD

  • Pikinanou

Your boss is like:what is this? And you’re like: don’t look at me. I dunno! XD

  • Dennis Grace

What a nightmare interpretation of eternal youth—exactly the fulfillment of a deal I’d expect from a devil. Kyle, your Dad is a real cunt.

    • NoiseShaper

it could be a whole lot worse if Duncan wasn’t in the hands of basically decent people now

    • KatKaleen

But did the same happen to PP?

    • Curt Clark

Honestly, I think Duncan got exactly what he deserved.

…As in, I don’t feel like this child who used to be him should be punished any more for his previous self’s actions.

  • Saikkusukka

Now this is the part where Kyle’s heat is a positive factor. All aboard the cuddle train!

    • KatKaleen

Hmmm… not really. Just my swing right now.

  • Erica

The only thing I can honestly go by to really think he’s faking is that hunk of armor still on his shoulders. If Duncan is as strong as he is, i would like to assume that piece of the outfit is heavy af realistically. Maybe not but really, usually seems to he the case for most things right? I mean normal armor can be pretty heavy if it’s something as large as that on a small body but I’d say it’s enhanced if it’s Duncan cuz he was that full of himself. Also he made the deal to be young and healthy not young, healthy, and wipe memory, BUT it is the Devil who has the misfortune of being down in hell with Idiots…

    • Klaus

I think that that armor is just for show. The Annihilator was practically invulnerable. And if it was for actual protection, it would have covered more of his body.

      • Erica

True but it could still be obnoxiously heavy just because he knew he had the power to hold it up. Lol

      • EyeDontNo

As I learned from reading Batman comics back in the day, sometimes armor (or more specifically in that case the designs on it) is more of an attempt to distract your enemies from your real weaknesses, rather than actual functionality. As for what weakness Anni was hiding, he was smart enough not to say.

        • Klaus

I remember some of those stories.

        • timemonkey

Well, Batman needs to justify a stupid and impractical costume because it’s iconic and he can’t change it.

          • EyeDontNo

He said at one time the bright yellow bat-design in the middle of the chest is the dense-ist part of the costume because the bright spot at night made the most obvious target for an enemy to aim for. As for the costume design itself, I reserve judgement.

(Especially because one of the latest listcicles I read mentioned that Bruce Wayne had gone undercover as other heroes in the past, and the distinct costumes made it easier for him to hide the truth from the public.)

          • Klaus

Wearing a dark suit while keeping a person in a bright yellow cape nearby reduces the risk of getting shot.

          • Curt Clark

I believe he put Robin in the colorful costume because it was reminiscent of his Flying Graysons suit, and at the time, Robin was explicitly supposed to be a better acrobat (i.e. more able to dodge bullets) than Batman.

Now, of course, someone better at ANYTHING than Batman is apparently heresy within the walls of DC’s offices, but that was the explanation I always took away.

      • Jet Allen

Makes me wonder about Sircea, then, and how her physical defenses are. I mean, she wore a metal bikini.

  • Now, now, Dunny, you wouldn’t ask help from the guy who was threatening you moments ago, would you?! On the other hand, you’re cold and that unfriendly guy had flames in his hands, so that could be that…

  • timemonkey

You heard him Kyle, BURN THE CHILD!

    • Rick T

      haha!

    • NoiseShaper

Now, now… who are the villains here?

      • Jet Allen

        Whoever designed Duncan’s outfit.

        • Curt Clark

On grown-up Duncan, it was hot af. But on Kid Duncan, yeah, it’s not useful for much of anything.

          • Jet Allen

I dunno. I guess because Duncan’s not my type anyway, but on his adult self, it looked like something one of Lady Gaga’s backup dancers might wear.

          • Curt Clark

            …that’s kind of the appeal to me. ^_^;

    • Jet Allen

I’m surprised this comment escaped the sermon squad.

  • Jason Moon

    Once a villainous chessmaster…

  • TwoWayStar

*narrows eyes* Hmm..that line in hte last panel sure doesnt sound like something a 13 yr old would come up with spontaneously….Im not buying it!! But he IS a child..jail for his crimes, or rehabilitation so he doesnt repeat his past?

    • KatKaleen

Hmmm… I’m not so sure. If your memory has been wiped, you have no idea what happened, no idea who you are, no idea who everybody else is… asking for help might be natural.

      • TwoWayStar

It’s just the WAY he asked, as opposed to just being “I dont know whats going on but please take me home”. And the fact that he seems a little too calm.
I mean if you were a villain who finally got his wish and also almost destroyed the entirety of Earth and almost everyone on it (and the whole Kyle thing)…would you want to be punished for your crimes? Or would you come up with a plan on the spot to play innocent, then start a new life even one under watch?

        • KatKaleen

It’s definitely possible… *Strokes non-existing beard while pondering*

          • TwoWayStar

*joins you in stroking non-existent beard* hmmmm….

          • I just can’t see Duncan faking the memory loss…
In his last interaction with Kyle he was all “I certainly messed up things with you…” (Unless THAT was also fake?!)
But if he truly felt that way would it be wise to continue deceiving Kyle? You do make a solid point though that this memory loss could help him avoid capture.
            Ugh!!
Super Villains are hard to read….
He fooled me once, he may very well be doing it again. But there is nothing telling me that I need to be skeptical of him… this time…

  • Larkle

Well, either way they can’t leave him there. But it’s pretty awkward either way as well.

  • Derkins

Yeah, I’ll agree with the other commenters –looks like we have another young protector to join the team! They can keep a closer eye on him that way, anyway.

    • Klaus

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

      • Derkins

        exactly.

    • Curt Clark

I…sort of don’t want this. At least not yet. Let him prove himself genuinely amnesiac, then see if he still has his powers, and THEN give him some time to develop a learning curve before anyone joins anything.

      • Derkins

Fair enough! He does have that whole troublemaker potential, and he’s immortal, though. seems nurturing him would be better than locking him away where he’ll become bitter for the rest of eternity. you know. once the amnesia is definite. I really don’t think it’s in Duncan’s personality to fake amnesia though. he would’ve been giving Kyle props and telling him he was sorry for underestimating him.

  • bronakopdin

talking about Sircea, I can’t help but always kind of compare her to Flemeth from the Dragon Age series x’D though Flemeth is not THAT bad lol
    http://orig08.deviantart.net/1440/f/2011/143/4/7/dragon_age_2___flemeth_by_sathar_qndy-d3h33hn.jpg

    • Great game

    • timemonkey

We really have no idea how bad Flemeth is. we don’t see that much of her and pretty much everything from the first game was staged to further her goals so could have been fake. She seems not so bad, but Morrigan tells some pretty disturbing tales and that’s just what she saw herself.

      • Curt Clark

Flemeth is a lot more shrewd than Sircea, though. She’s content to live out of the spotlight, where Sircea’s while “I WILL be a goddess again!” strikes me as a lot more power-hungry.

I’m not saying Flemeth is NICER — although Inquisition painted a very different picture of her than what we saw in Origins — but there is a big of a difference between the two in terms of ambition.

        • timemonkey

Yes, and it’s a bit of a point during Inquisition: real gods don’t feel the need to prove their power and status.

Though given how old and powerful Sircea is supposed to be I wonder how much of an impact she’s had on the development and culture of this world.

          • Curt Clark

I’d think if Sircea had the impact she claims she had, the world would be a bit more feminist.

          • timemonkey

Does she care about other women or only herself?

        • Klaus

According to one of the text stories, PP was also keeping out of the spotlight. This makes one wonder at her choice of clothes.

      • bronakopdin

well exactly that is why I used irony ^^ I personally think she is not bad at all and that it all has a good reason (in fact in Inquisition it is made clear), I also think Solas is not bad in that sense, I am sure we’ll get an explanation later on in the game series.
at least to me it seems like that, but as so many things in the game: fans love to debate about it and I rather keep myself out of it bc it seems they get really flaming if the opinions don’t align x’D

  • Jeff Baker

Sounds like Kyle’s Dad watches a lot of “Twilight Zone” reruns!

  • Evan

    Kill him with fire, Kyle!

    • Klaus

Middle aged Kyle to a young and idealistic hero: “It was a defining moment. He was a kid, and I hurt him very badly. After that, there was no going back.”

      • Pietro7

        Tish-bing! Exactly on target, Klaus.
Means make the end, as Kyle now has reason to know. He’s too wise now to choose easy means that lead to bad ends. And burning this kid to death would certainly be an ugly thing no matter how you frame it – to hear a 13-year-old voice screaming in bewildered pain as he died, not understanding WHY . . .

        • Evan

Oh my god! It must be traumatic for everybody D:. But nah, Kyle would never ever do something like that. He even was kind enough to hold Duncan when he was getting unconscious.

  • Snorlaxation

Assuming he’s not faking the amnesia bit, and it’s permanent, it does kind of suck that Kyle won’t be able to get any more closure than he already got. Having said that, the possibility of helping kid-Annihilator become a better person and friend, might just be the best alternative in the end.

Plus, I’m sure now Duncan is going to end up looking up to and maybe even crushing on Kyle instead.

    • Shjade

Bit awkward having a kid who will literally never grow up crushing on you, though, innit?

      • NoiseShaper

They’d get used to that, but I think the promise was “youth, and then unending health”, so he should still be able to grow up.

        • EyeDontNo

The problem we’re all dancing around here with The Contract and its fulfillment can be summed up easily. Human logic vs Demon Lord logic, both of which are superseded by Author Logic.

  • timemonkey

It is a little weird he’s cold. Given how much fire was present a few minutes ago you’d think it’d be fairly warm for a while.

    • davefragments

Water is always cold to human skin when it contacts the ground.

      • timemonkey

That’s because it steals heat from our bodies, leaving us feeling cold. But he’s not wet.

    • Nofsky8

It reminds me of Spooky’s situation, (in regards to temperature perception,)

  • Saxon_Brenton

Hmm. Actually, definately get him a blanket or change of clothes. Not because of issues of being cold. Because anyone who turns up in the tattered remains of an Annihilator uniform will likely provoke a negative response from the sacrifices who will be getting out of the box.

    • Curt Clark

Yeah, let’s not turn the hostages into Gaston’s mob from the end of “Beauty and the Beast”.

  • Jet Allen

You heard him, Kyle. He’s cold. Set him on fire.

I mean, he COULD be sincere, but since Amanda can’t tell, better safe than sorry, right? I’m sure he’ll be fine.

    • Curt Clark

…only if he’s powered. Murdering a kid, even if that kid used to be your nemesis? Not cool.

      • Jet Allen

Who said murder him? He can stop, drop, and roll. Just set him on fire briefly. Who cares if he’s a kid? Would it be okay if he were an adult, then?

        • LauraMoyer

Actually, in this CONTEXT, it would be different- because Adult!Duncan was fully cognizant of his actions and would be capable of defending himself to some degree/kinda deserves an ass-whoopin’

New Kid!Duncan though…? It’s almost like he wasn’t just made young again, but returned to a past version of himself- meaning he technically didn’t do anything wrong, as far as he is aware. In this context, there really would be no justification for attacking an otherwise defenseless kid, even if that defenselessness is purely psychological/emotional.

          • Klaus

Different, yes. But Kyle would still have no right to be judge, jury and executioner.

          • Jet Allen

Everyone keeps bringing up the fact that he’s a kid.

So, just to be clear – let’s say Duncan were an ADULT, then. Maybe a younger one, but still an adult.

Would it be okay to attack him then, because he’s an adult, and adults are apparently just not as special and precious as kids or something?

          • Curt Clark

In this exact set of circumstances, with no memory of who and what he had been? No. Even as an adult, if his mind were still regressed to the point where he had no memory of what he had done, killing an innocent person is wrong.

The age factor is part of the outrage, because yes, we as a culture are conditioned to believe that children should be protected, and you can argue that point until the proverbial cows come home, but I doubt you’ll sway many minds there. But chiefly, for me at least, it’s that fact the this child in question is no longer the Annihilator.

  • Sarah Vee

Well, if he says he’s cold… didn’t Spooky say that he’s always cold after getting back from hell? I’m betting that’s relevant. 😛

  • Curt Clark

I’m disturbed by the number of people calling for Kid!Duncan’s blood.

Dude. He’s a KID. We don’t even know if he has his powers.

    • Jet Allen

So, uhh… it’d be okay if he weren’t a kid, then? I didn’t know adults were expendable!

      • Curt Clark

If Annihilator-Duncan were still around and in possession of his faculties and memories, then I would argue that he be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I consider him to be something only slightly less vile than a rapist, and the “but I felt really bad about it” we got from him is facile and self-serving at best, cowardly at worst.

But this is not that man. This is a child who’s done nothing wrong, who cannot defend himself against the group of superhumans who just sent a demon lord back to Hell.

    • Evan

I was joking xD. I think everybody is. The most possible and the best scenario is Duncan being adopted by them.

    • timemonkey

I haven’t seen anyone seriously suggest taking revenge on the kid.

  • Curt Clark

I dunno, it’s not ALWAYS a terrible idea.

I remember Magneto had something like this happen at the end of the Silver Age, except that HIS re-aging opened the door to a world of character development that, while the redemption didn’t stick, made him one of the most complex and interesting (if not always sympathetic) characters in all of comicdom.

  • Jet Allen

True, but even with her millennia of training, it’s gotta be a damn pain to operate both magical offenses and defenses simultaneously.

  • Klaus

Is it getting dark? Remember, Kyle: don’t let the sun set on your anger.

    • Gah… If I were Kyle… I don’t know if I could be angry anymore, at least not at this Duncan… Like… If Duncan truly lost his memory I wouldn’t be able to hold a grudge against the tiny Duncan.
      But man that’s such a tough scenario…
If I were Kyle I’d have SO MUCH anger and really no place to put it, because it would destroy me to deflect it back at a kid who has no memory of what he had done.

      • Curt Clark

Sircea’s still out there, and unless she too has been de-aged and amnesized (it’s a word NOW), she’s still a perfectly serviceable hate-sink. ^_^

        • NoiseShaper

Maybe she’s been de-aged but protected her knowledge by magical means. Not only would she probably have an Idea of what would be happening, she also should have some means to counteract some of the side effects.

        • Yes! I am all for Kyle sinking his hate into her! She’s like a billion years old so I can see her knowing of a way to resist the amnesia.

  • Klaus

Maybe the bikini was needed for a spell?

  • Mir

Eh yeah guess so. The only reason I can think of for bringing him back is so he can be properly punished for his crime(s) (but I think this is punishment enough)

  • Duro

This is why I hate psychics in comics. They are astoundingly useful until the plot deems they be useless.

    • timemonkey

      Blame lazy writing in comics.

      • NoiseShaper

It’s basically a byproduct of having those superpowers in a story in the first place. They’d flatten many story opportunities if they didn’t have meaningful limitations, either self-imposed or inherent.

  • Last panel Duncan is to be read: «I’m cold and frightened… Can you hold me with your strong arms against your broad and warm and comforting chest?»

  • Saxon_Brenton

Shane And The Hellsnakes – 28th Bite

PAGE 1 – Meanwhile… Still Shane and Louie
(1.1) Establishing panorama shot of makeshift triage centre set up by the St Erewhon medics. There is now a smaller number of people in the background being treated for injuries. In the foreground Louie has just finished fixing a broken arm.
Louie: “There you go. Try that.”
Man: “It’s… it doesn’t hurt at all. It’s like it was never broken, and even all the bruising’s gone.”
Louie: “Yes. It should be fully healed. Doublecheck with your doctor by getting an x-ray, but that can wait until later.”
(1.2) Wide shot of Shane and Louie. In background Kat and Joel can be seen working, while Pete is on lookout duty with his mobile phone in one hand. Shane looks thoughtful as Louie approaches.
Louie: “So how are we going?”
Shane: “Pretty good. Numbers are dropping off. The social media reports Pete’s been following say that a lot of people have been walking out of the city centre. We can probably start hoofing out soon too.”
(1.3) Medium shot of Shane and Louie.
    Louie: “And what about you?”
Shane: “Oh, I was just thinking about the mind control stuff.”
(1.4) Medium shot of Shane and Louie. Shane frowns.
Shane: “I was kind of worrying about how if I’m not being affected by the mind control now, then maybe I wasn’t under control back when I was doing the supervillain minion thing for Team Silver, you know?”

    PAGE 2 – Psychoanalysis From A Snake
(2.1) Medium shot of Shane and Louie, still in same positions as before.
Louie: “Well, sometimes people can build up resistance to it. And even if that’s not the case, we all do things we later regret. That’s no reason to stop trying to do better in the future.”
(2.2) Medium shot of Shane and Louie, with Louie looking at Shane square in the face with an intent expression. Shane has a doubtful frown.
Louie: “Take it from a snake from hell.”
(2.3) Medium shot of Shane and Louie.
Shane: “That’s not what I’m talking about.”
(2.4) Medium shot of Shane and Louie.
Shane: “It’s a practical thing. It’s like… if the cops ever found out, it could shred the explanation that I wasn’t in control and being used. Gotta maintain the plausible deniability, man.”
(2.5) Medium shot of Shane and Louie. Shane leans forward to speak seriously to Louie.
Shane: “But you know this. You’ve slept in my soul, and you should know by now that I’m nowhere near as good a person as I like to make out.”
Louie: [says nothing, but has a very dubious expression]

    PAGE 3 – Meow
(3.1) Wide shot of makeshift triage centre. Pete walks over to show something on his mobile phone.
Pete: “Hey guys, I’m guessing that these might be friends of yours.”
(3.2) Silent panel. Closeup shot of the screen of Pete’s mobile phone, showing video footage of Huey, Alice and the Silver Gnu somewhere in the city, gleefully throwing cheesecake at shamblers.
(3.3) Medium shot of the group. Kate has wandered over and is looking at the video footage. Shane makes a rhetorical ‘why me?” statement, which raises a smile from Louie.
Kat: “Well, looks like they’re having fun.”
    Shane: “Cats. I swear it’s like…”
Shane (to Louie): “What are you smirking at?”
(3.4) Medium shot of group. Everyone in same places as previously, but all are staring at Louie. Louie is holding a cat mask in front of their face with their tail.
    Louie: “Meow.”
    Shane (frowny expression): “Very funny.”

  • I may have to miss camping tonight. D:
Popping in just real quick to say hi to my fellow campers.
I am home for just a quick moment then I driving for an hour to go see my boyfriend for the weekend!

Think of me fondly while you eat the s’mores!!

  • Wayne Lunkwitz

Camping out….has got me thinking (this could be dangerous) Since the beginning of this comic centered on Kyle/Duncan……wouldn’t it be only fair that Kyle take on responsibility for “raising” Duncan?

    • Michael

If a rapist loses his memory, the victim should be responsible for caring for them? What kind of fresh hell is that?

      • Wayne Lunkwitz

OK point taken…….but would you damn a minor to Hell for something his “older self ” did?

        • Michael

Who’s saying Hell? My point is only that Kyle shouldn’t be the one saddled with responsibility for his care, that’s all.

  • davefragments

    Hello Campers,
What do we hope to see in the update page tonight?

    • Nofsky8

Hi Dave! Hmm, I don’t know, probably just more information, anywho, how was your day?

      • davefragments

Lots of packages delivered for both me and my neighbor… And a nice rigatoni with meat sauce dinner.
        How was your day?

        • Nofsky8

Getting packages is always great, and that sounds good, my day was productive, if a bit chaotic, we watched the beginning of Gattaca in science class, and had homemade hot pockets for dinner, so all around a pretty good day,

          • davefragments

I remember Gattaca, interesting movie about genetics and dystopic societies.
This Sunday, the Symphony is playing Mahler’s 2nd Symphony which is the very first symphony I heard live and it made me a classical music fan for life.

          • Nofsky8

Wow, cool! Are you going to go see it?

          • davefragments

Yes. I bought that ticket special. The Mahler 2nd is 90 minutes with 4 soloists and a full chorus. It is titled “Resurrection”

          • Nofsky8

Oooo, I admit, I know less about Mahler than I probably should but that sounds enjoyable,

          • davefragments

well, as Music 101 — at the end of the 19th century the musical critics of the world listened for the last great composers of the 19th century. The heir to great romantic composers: Brahms, Schubert, Chopin, Bruckner, and Wagner, Verdi, Puccini. What they heard was the first composer of the 20th century — Gustave Mahler.
            {Sorry for the tiny lecture}

          • Nofsky8

Huh, interesting, (it’s all good I like learning new things,)

          • davefragments

Here’s five minutes of it — Movement 4 “Urlicht” (Primeval Light)

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6xwgalv-YI

          • Nofsky8

It’s pretty good, I can see why you like it,

  • Hiya. I’m having a very lazy waking up. Slowly taking my time, and finally got around to camping.

    • davefragments

      Hi there…

      • Morning. I’m gonna get myself such a good nap later if I can. Depends on how much noise my renovating new neighbour makes.

        • davefragments

They renovate at night? Oh my!

          • It’s early day here now 😉

          • davefragments

I sympathize. I have a neighbor on one side who gets his backhoe working at 8am and another neighbor on the other side who runs his tractor at sunset. They each take turns banging things early and late.

          • Had a couple of those through the 9 years I’ve lived here. My one neighbour now has the Hell Machine, as I named it. An American car that I have no doubt has been added something that’s a cross between a Harley bike and a jet-flight engine.
That thing can wake the dead when he really speeds it up xD

He takes it out for small rides, shows and just keeping the engine going (holding still, just ‘spinning’ for up to 10-15mins) during summer months.

          • davefragments

It’s a bad muffler that makes that noise. Or the lack of a muffler. Or a rusted out muffler with holes in it.
            Bad muffler! Bad Muffler!

            also: {tiny wee-wee, big ego}

          • He treats that car like a specious treasure, so what ever it is, it is neither bad and certainly not rusted. The Hell Machine is spotless. He even has a large trailer that he transport it in if he’s going to shows.

Oh the times I have gone from deep sleep to AWAKE in 2 secs when he suddently turns that beast on and speeds up several times, warming up the engine, before moving it an inch.

    • Nofsky8

      Good morning Danish,

      • ‘Morning. Sounds like first roof visitora today is a couple blackbirds getting breakfast and a cuckoo bird singing its song.

        • Nofsky8

🙂 Neat, I honestly wasn’t sure a cuckoo was a real bird (and/or not extinct) until now,

          • There’s more than one kind of cuckoo bird, and van be found various parts of the world. The Common Cuckoo bird (looks a lot like a dove) is fairly regular all over most of Europe and Asia. They migrate to Africa during the winter months.
