The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter 5—Page 6

201 Comments on The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Chapter 5—Page 6

Earth to Spooky… Can you hear us?

Meanwhile, in the real world, I know that this past week has been challenging for a lot of us. As someone who follows politics closely, I know full well what’s at stake and the seriousness of the consequences of the election. But I still have hope. I have hope in all of us, that we will figure out a way through this, and that a good part of that, will be through the support and love we show each other. On the night of the results, when finally I stepped away from the TV, I went to bed, held my fiancé in my arms, and counted all the great blessings in my life. He’s certainly one of those blessings. So are all of you. The connection I feel with y’all, my gratitude for the support you’ve shown for our work here, the support you’ve given each other—that can’t and won’t be changed by what just happened.  It is true that the world needs heroes now, more than ever. And you are those heroes. Keep being good to each other. There will of course always be some battles that we lose. We knew that. Even the strongest heroes lose battles. But we will not be defeated. We will get through this, together, as we always have.  We will fight for justice, and the happy ending we deserve. And ultimately, we will win. Because love will always trump hate.

So! Looks like Flyboy is channeling his inner Will Smith, Kyle is trying to fight fire with fire, and Commander is hoping to rekindle a little magic.  Will Spooky need to let go of those souls to face an even bigger threat?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • Sapfo

    Shall we dance?

  • Another strike. Mitch is good at demon bowling.

  • DonnaC

Go Mitch. Poor Spooky, what a choice he needs to make.

  • davefragments

Momentum is the biggest hammer in the Physics universe.
It really is the entirety of physics.

  • *nail biting*

  • Mitch……I love you to peices!!! (but seriously try to stay in only one piece k?)

  • Adam Black

    Thank-you @alexwoolfson:disqus

  • Sapfo

My thoughts are with you, friends in the US.
    Stay safe❤

  • Um… Commander, I’m not sure about that advice to Kyle..

  • Kyle is going to need something more than his normal fire, if it’s to do any harm on a creature of fire.

Will Spooky give up the souls in need of a larger problem/danger, or does he have another possible solution up his sleeve. Combining his magic with Kyle’s fire could be a solution to Kyle’s little problem.

    • Jeldenil

Maybe he has an excellerator potion to combine with the fire

    • Adam Black

      Balefire?

  • Laampros to Kyle: ‘Stop trying to tickle me’.

  • Sky God. That’s a new title. 🙂

BTW – Nice ‘speech’ concerning the election. It took me about this long to come to that point of view on my own. My first though was to get out, but then I started to think that thinking that way was the wrong path. There was still a ‘fight’ to continue.

So think you for your moving words. 🙂

Back to the comic. Are you asking Spooky to kill the people? Or are you admitting that they are already dead?

  • +1000000 Alex. Well said.

  • GGCharms

People acting like we’re going to start purging in the US, calm down. I love this comic so much, but your politics notes are getting depressing and they have nothing to do with the comic. You’ve made your point about voting, we get it (even people not in the US get it), but the election is over so please move on. I know I sound like a bitch, but people have been drawing this out for way too long.

    • You’ve already started purging in the US.There have been a number of sexual assaults and beatings, including at least one university student beaten to death. It’s not surprising that people in the target demographics are afraid of a full-blown Kristallnacht.

      • GGCharms

@Jules Jones, and that would have continued if Hillary was President too. It continued when Obama was President.

    • Krondor2000

I’m glad you admitted that you are a bitch!

    • bronakopdin

I have to disagree. I’m not in the US but what I gather from the news shows it’s not “drawn out” in any way but rather all these concerns have a reason to exist and I wouldn’t tell people to stop being concerned.
Actually I’d rather say you should try to concern yourself with the issue.
In fact you said yourself that the politics notes are depressing. Why is that? Because the issues at hand are depressing for many people!
You shouldn’t sweep it under the rug either.
The mindset of “not caring” has a huge part as to why it all came to this, too.

      • Columbine

I can empathise in the sense that it can be difficult to take in so much sometimes. When you look at this big ream of panic and dread and all the people potentially at risk it can be demoralising. I feel like it’s always better to look at the issues at hand through the lense of what people can practically do rather than just stating the issue itself and why it’s bad.

        • bronakopdin

that is true ofc but that’s a really different matter than telling people to stop caring or calling it “drawing it out”

in fact this WILL be drawn out for at least 4 years…

          • Columbine

Point. I guess I’m trying to be calm here and give everyone (at least everyone who isn’t a politician) some space and the benefit of the doubt.

          • GGCharms

@bronakopdin:disqus I guess, like I’ve said to someone else already, to get through this we all just have to agree to disagree. Lets shake hands on it *sticks out hand*

      • GGCharms

@bronakopdin. There’s nothing to be concerned about. Actually there is, I take that back, I’m afraid that all of these protesters are going to beat the hell out of me because I voted for Trump, which they’ve already done. It’s only depressing because people are thinking that a government agent is going to sneak into their rooms and shoot them, or laws will be passed to discriminate against them. Which no law will be passed to do that because a bill becoming a law is a very long process where many people have to agree about it. And I’m not “sweeping it under the rug”, it’s more like vacuuming it up but people still trying to dump the mess on my floor. I don’t remember these protests when Obama won. But people can protest, they have freedom of speech, but when they start obstructing every day life and assaulting people, that’s when it’s wrong. Plus, this protesting isn’t going to change anything. Just because people are mad does not mean that Trump will step down from being President.

        • fujoshifanatic

We can only hope he is impeached soon for grabbing some intern’s pussy.

    • Juliette Leroux

Fascism and proto fascism need reactions and actions. It’s not a soccer game.

      • GGCharms

@Juliette Leroux, This is not fascism, lol, what do you think happened in this election? Do you think we got a new system of government?

        • fujoshifanatic

Yes. One in which the racists and bullies now feel they can have free reign in the interest of “law and order.” One in which all the progress that we built up over the last 50 years–pro choice, marriage equality, better health care, the rights of the marginalized to vote–will be chipped away to a shell of what they were, if they continue to exist at all. One in which a craven egoist will be allowed to bankrupt and pillage our economy before he retreats to his newly built tower in Moscow with most of our tax money. But of course, if you are white, CIS, and male (and/or married to one), none of this will affect you I suppose. So congratulations if that’s you. Just don’t make light of everyone else’s reality.

          • GGCharms

You haven’t even given the guy a chance. Plus he can’t do anything without going through two other branches of gov and he can’t make laws that can do such things without the Senate and House of Rep agreeing with him, which is a lot of people btw. And normally the president isn’t the one proposing the bills. But if you want to think in this negative little bubble of yours, agree to disagree.

          • davefragments

            This should stop.
This isn’t an endless discussion of politics.

        • Juliette Leroux

Facsism is not a form of government, it’s an ideology.
“One common definition of the term focuses on three concepts: the fascist negations of anti-liberalism, anti-communism and anti-conservatism; nationalist authoritarian goals of creating a regulated economic structure to transform social relations within a modern, self-determined culture; and a political aesthetic of romantic symbolism, mass mobilization, a positive view of violence, and promotion of masculinity, youth and charismatic leadership.” Wikipedia

          • davefragments

            Stop this.
This is not the place for endless political discussions

          • Juliette Leroux

            OK. You’re right.

    • Krondor2000

May I respond please? Thank you. As I was saying: The author has the right of free speech here. If you believe it is depressing and not worth anything to you then you have the right to go elsewhere. He will continue to speak his mind on his platform and I will continue to support him. And speak out as well!!
Monitor: Is this response satisfactory to your liking? I hope you believe in free speech? Yes, it has been a trying week. I may have responded to GGCharms a little harshly but here is my clarification.

      • Hi Krondor2000. I didn’t delete your initial comment, but would have if I have seen it first.

We believe in free speech, but will not accept bad name calling (which isn’t covered under free speech), and it’s against our community policy http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/comment-policy/
We allow debates to happen, and people are allowed to disagree with each other, also with Alex, and express that; but it has to happen on a civil level, and with the respect that it’s also another person you comment to.

        • Krondor2000

@DanishWolf. When I made the response to GGCharms I was upset about how he (or she) responded to Alex’s statement and attempted to defend him. Then I thought better of it and attempted to edit my statement. And that’s when I realize my response was deleted which is why I went on the warpath to make sure my voice is heard. Like I said before, it’s been a hard week not just for me but for everyone who’s been affected by the outcome of this election. The last thing I need is for someone come on my favorite website to tell the author to basically “shut up and write the story”.

          • davefragments

            You should stop now.
This isn’t an endless discussion of politics.

          • Krondor2000

I am through with this discussion.

      • GGCharms

@Krondor2000 I know he has freedom of speech, and I know it seems like I’m trying to make him to stop because i’m just mad about his views, but it’s more like everywhere I go I’m bombarded by the election, even when I’m just trying to enjoy this amazing comic, and I don’t know why we have to keep talking about it. It was never this bad in past elections. But I guess if this is his place to vent, then let him vent.

    • Columbine

As some one who isn’t from or in the US I understand that it’s depressing and becomes repetitive. I’m sure everyone feels like they’ve been hearing nothing but US politics for months.

As someone who has lived in places with purges and oppressive laws I understand why people are scared and will continue to talk about that. I mean, I don’t know you or anything about you so I don’t want to assume you’re not the sort of person that might be targeted in the US. I’m not afraid and I don’t think I would be if I was in the States, because I’ve seen and lived with worse.

People are always going to fear the worst, it’s how we’re wired. I think we’ve got to try and be patient and understanding with other people’s fears, even if they are (or seem) over blown.

    • fujoshifanatic

Last night, I went to go visit my parents, who live in the north west region of one of the few counties that went blue in my state. I stopped for gas at a station I had used many times before without incident. A truck pulled up behind my Jeep and started honking and flashed their high beams at me; I didn’t think much of it, assuming that they would go around me, since they had plenty of room and the pump on the other side of me was free. When I finished pumping, I went to the back of my Jeep to get some coolant to put in my reservoir, as there is a small leak somewhere in the radiator and I try to keep track of it when I drive long distances. As I lower the hatch, I feel something whizzing by my head and a beer bottle goes crashing into the back of my Jeep.

Then I hear the following words,”Go back to Africa you fat fucking nigger. Maybe next time you’ll listen when a white man tells you to move,” before he takes off laughing. The next thing I remember is the gas station attendant helping me off the ground where I fell, and trying hard to collect myself before I try to make it to my parents. So you know what? I will not move on. I don’t have the option. And if you don’t like it that I might seek some solace or commiseration here for what may be a very difficult four years for me, then please don’t read the comments. Just enjoy the comic and leave us, for whom this election had very serious consequences not of our choosing, just be with the ways of coping we have.

      • I’m so sorry to hear that this happened to you. Can hope, at some point soon, that certain people will find out that just because Trump became president, they won’t get a free reign to do what they want.
If not anything else, I hope Trump will maked that clear. The law still stands clear, and not even Trump being president can change that.

      • *hugs* I am so sorry sweetie. You are precious and we love you. Be safe. *hugs*

      • GGCharms

@fujoshifanatic I get that that’s terrible, horrible, and repulsive way to treat someone, I really do, but it has nothing to do with the election.

        • Klaus

It may be a coincidence. Then again it may not. There is no way to know.

          • GGCharms

Exactly, so I guess what the country needs right now is to say “Agree to disagree”

        • fujoshifanatic

Yeah, except that in my attempt to get the license plate number of that racist, the only thing I did catch was the Trump/Pence bumper sticker next to it, which probably triggered the blackout. So you keep telling yourself that to feel better.

          • GGCharms

So now all Trump supporters are racist. I get it, just because one person my have the same qualities, whether it’s in looks or who you would like to lead, and they do something hurtful, stupid, or illegal, it means that entire group of people is exactly like that. That makes since, thanks. But to get this fight over with, because I know you’ll never agree with me, like I’ve said to you before, agree to disagree.

          • davefragments

You should stop this right now.
This isn’t an endless discussion of politics. Take the discussion elsewhere.

          • GGCharms

I just said “agree to disagree” and ended the conversation.

          • fujoshifanatic

I am not trying to lump a particular group in the same basket of deplorables. What I am trying to process is how Trump’s tacit acceptance of such racist rhetoric was not a deal breaker for people. For me, that is the same as voting for an avowed, practicing pedophile with economic policies you agree with. My only guess is that perhaps you have never been a victim of such cruelty and hatred, and so you have no compassion for my perspective, but I am supposed to have understanding for yours.

          • davefragments

            This should stop now.
This isn’t an endless discussion of politics.

          • fujoshifanatic

I apologize. I am done. It is too triggering for me anyway.

          • GGCharms

I never said you need compassion for my views, I even said I know we’ll never agree so “agree to disagree”. People were meant to debate their feelings, I’m sorry it got so out of hand. Here, we can be the first to come to a mutual understanding of each other’s views *fist bump*

      • Klaus

I don’t understanhd how such people think. Can they really believe that all human decency has been abolished?

      • Columbine

Fuck. I’m sorry that happened pet. I really hope it doesn’t set the tone for the next four years. Let us know if there’s anything we can do.

      • I am very sorry that you had this experience, fujoshifanatic. I wish I could give you my biggest hugs right now.

      • Keneu

I’m sorry this happened to you. Nobody should ever have to go through things like that.

  • Shiny Gwilly

don’t get too cocky up there Mitch, you’re doing well but stay focused k
keep trying anyway Kyle even as demon daddy looks down at you in a disappointed/”…really?” sort of way
it’s not so much an “can he” question about Spooky freeing the souls, more of a “will he actually do it”
(also, thank you Alex, it’ll be tough but we’ll fight)

    • Saxon_Brenton

The ‘don’t get cocky’ quip sprang to my mind when I first read the first four panels.

  • Jeldenil

I wonder what Tsu and Fluke are doing right now, are they really out of the fight? Mitch is doing great.

    • Klaus

Fluke is staying out of it because of his negative charge. It will be interesting to see how Tsunami is doing.

  • ikeamonkey89

Is Kyle seriously trying to burn a demon?

    • Saxon_Brenton

Sure looks like it. And, no, I dunno what he’s doing either.

Maybe a distraction? If it were a lesser demon then maybe he could generate enough mojo to overwhelm any fire resistance the demon had, but I seriously doubt that’s a tactic that would work against a king of hell.

      • Well, he’s a prince of hell. EVen if he can’t stop his dad, he might be able to slow him down long enough to help the others regroup.

        • Klaus

He might. Doesn’t look like it is working, though.

      • Keneu

Maybe he can use his latent demonic powers and go hellion mode?

      • Saxon_Brenton

It occurs to me that maybe he’s thinking he could generate some kinetic force to push Laampros back through the gate, rather than harming him. If so then he’s probably going to need to tagteam with Flyboy to overcome Laampros’ inertia.

    • Juliette Leroux

Yes, it makes absolutely no sense, he should be absorbing Lamproos flames.

  • Klaus

    Hybris.

  • I don’t think that’s so much bragging from Flyboy as a threat posture. One superpowered teenager isn’t going to stop an entire army of demons, but he’s making it clear that they’re going to face serious opposition and not a walkover.

  • Juliette Leroux

Please, don’t ask that to Spooky. I know I wouldn’t obey that order, as logical it might be. I really don’t want to see this….

    • timemonkey

He shouldn’t have done it in the first place.

  • bronakopdin

omg I like how Mitch is confident but I sure hope he won’t get too confident and ends up making a serious mistake out of overestimating himself >/////<

    and I wonder about Spooky!!! I mean I can't imagine him letting go of the souls… and then I wonder how conscious he even is with all of them inside atm ;___;

    • It might not be a confidence issue, but a problem in them not properly training his powers. It doesn’t really seem like they are training Mitch in a way to test the limits of his powers, he is slowly doing that himself in his spare time.

      • bronakopdin

I’m not thinking about limits though, but instead of getting overconfident? Like teenagers tend to be… >/////<

  • Toli Bera

    Flyboy in the sky~!
He can go Twice as high!
    Take a Look
    At His Left Hook
    A Bleeding Painbow~! (Bleeding painbow~!)

  • Nate

I think Skygod is a better codename than Flyboy, don’t you?

Heck, a good number of us already worship him… 😉

(As well as Spooky, Kyle, and the rest to one extent or another)

    • Klaus

When Laampros spares a moment to swat him, Flyboy will fit perfectly.

    • Nate

Thinking in terms of The Young Pantheon:

Kyle: The hot god of (Hell)fire.
Mitch: The cute god of the sky.
Spooky: The cuddly god of magic
Gordon: The grumpy god of water.
Paul: The loyal god of luck.
And of course, Amanda as the intelligent “goddess of keeping you idiots from killing yourselves” 🙂

      • Klaus

        We have:

        The god of hot
        The god of cute
        The god of cudly
        The god of hulky
        The god of sexy
        The goddess of awesome

I think we have it all covered

      • SchalaRenee

In Greek mythology, Amanda would be Athena, goddess of wisdom and war. She would be a perfect Athena.

        • Klaus

Kyle would then be Erichthonios, son of the god of fire. Gordon would be Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea. Tyche, the name itself means luck, was female, so finding a role for Paul is difficult. The divinity most commonly asociated with magic, Hekate, was also female. Mitch could be Hermes.

          • Saxon_Brenton

I had a sudden vision of the team cosplaying the Greek gods, and the lineup that sprang to mind matched most of yours. Including Spooky as Hekate. (You just know that the only problem Spooky would have as crossdressing as Hekate would be how to dress warmly.)
But apart from Red as Hades, this sudden flash of insight also had Flyboy as Zeus, and in the metal picture he was holding in his hands a fake beard with highly stylised curls (not quite the style used in the Disney movies Hercules or Fantasia, but close) and looking at it really dubiously.

          • SchalaRenee

PP would be a perfect Hekate. Hekate represents magic, witchcraft, necromancy, entrance-ways, and a lot of other PP-like attributes. PP can create doorways, so again, another perfect parallel to Hekate. Heck, I wouldn’t be shocked if PP pretended to be Hekate in the distant past!

      • Juliette Leroux

Ok, we now need a poster with our heroes in ancient greek costumes.

        • Klaus

          Alex, did you read that?

          • a0ctin

I may do something about it. My tumblr is antenn0.tumblr.com so look out for it :D. it’s quite a big project though so my painting has to be extra efficient.

          • Nate

I just saw your prelim sketch, and I’m already impressed

(And somewhat flattered than my dumb “The Young Pantheon” idea has taken off.)

          • That’s going to be awesome. Please send link Alex when you’re done so he can also add it to the fanart section 🙂

  • Someone’s been watching Independence Day…

  • Jose O. Gonzalez Lopez

Kyle I think your father doesn’t appreciate you being this stupid. He is on fire. Like literally. You think fire is going to work?

  • Terry

The first place my mind went when I read that last part was a cut-scene where we get a glimpse into Spooky’s head. In a vast cosmic field with Spooky at the center and a host of spirits crowded around him. A window into the outside world situated above. The spirits begin talking all at once and Spooky promises them that he won’t abandon them. Then one spirit tells Spooky to sacrifice him to save the world. The field gets silent. Then another spirit makes the same request. Then 3 more. Quickly, all the spirits vow a desire to aid humanity. Humbly, Spooky agrees and the personalities are released into the void, leaving the raw spiritual energy freely given. Spooky awakens, blasting the energy from his mouth like a dragon in a concussive force that knocks Laampros back through the portal.

    • Saxon_Brenton

That is an awesome piece of headcanon.

    • Kate G

      Headcanon accepted!

  • SchalaRenee

I can’t be the only one who pictured Will Smith puffing a cigar saying “Welcome to Earff!” and punching aliens when Mitch said that.

Also, KYLE. AGAIN? You’re trying to hurt someone with fire…who’s literally made of fire. Does he think this will actually work?

Or…maybe it will. Maybe this is why Spooky said he would be an asset. Maybe, like many monsters in myth, he can only be hurt by his own “weapons”, meaning only Hellfire from another member of Hell’s “royalty” can hurt him. Who better than his own son, a Prince of Hell? Maybe Kyle CAN hurt him, if it’s true that he can only be hurt by his own powers.

    • Saxon_Brenton

Oh, if only Laampros were literally made of fire. Then Red Hot could tear him apart with firebending (possibly sucking him up entirely) and then shove him into a glass jar and quip “Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space” or something equally obnoxious. But unfortunately that’s a bit too easy and we’ve only just started chapter 5.

  • Jason Moon

The Dark Lord of… Darkness… wears NOT Cloths of Loin, nor Wear of Under. Such paltry vestments cannot contain his Diabolical Magnificence!

Behold Mine Mighty Crotch, All Ye Mighty, AND DESPAIR!

(Will Percy Shelley ever forgive me? LOL!)

  • T Dibbler

Question: Is Kyle’s fire ability likely to have any effect against the demon who gave him that ability in the first place? Throwing fire at a fire demon seems like a waste of energy, but I guess standing around doing nothing expect feeling helpless wouldn’t be any better. 🙁

Poor Spooky, not a good choice to be faced with.

    • Shadizar Silvermask

So far it looks like the ‘can’t hurt daddy with powers you inherited from him’ trope is in effect, rather than the ‘my powers are the same as yours and that makes you vulnerable’ one.

  • Kate G

Laampros need not a loincloth, he is too godly for a loincloth. NO! He needs….ShadowLoins! ShadowLoins, an appropriately placed piece of magic shadow that cloaks your loins from the media and it’s only $19.99 (plus $9.99 shipping and handling!) Don’t wait before the magic is all gone! Get yours today! SHADOWLOINS!

    ———————————

Em, er, uh, I’m sorry, I can’t act mature at this moment in time to comment on hard depressing matters…well, until I start reading down the comment lines and find something where I need to be mature. I’ve been, frankly, scared all week and I’m finally feeling silly. LET ME BE SILLY.

    • davefragments

      Are ShadowLoins machine washable?

      • Klaus

Yes, but you need a rather special machine.

      • Kate G

WHY, Dave, thank you for asking! Because ShadowLoins are magic, simply put the magic back in its bottle and shake vigorously! VOILA! You’re ShadowLoins are once again ready for action your loins may get into!

    • Squishy

Are ShadowLoins one size fits all or will variably sized Kings of hell require multiple sizes to fit for whatever sized form they happen to take that day?

      • Kate G

Good question, Squishy, good question! Since ShadowLoins are magic, they fit to you! This means that they are a custom fit! Simply pour around the region to be covered and it will conform to whatever shape your loins are!

    • Juliette Leroux

Are Shadowloins available for all genders?

      • Kate G

Why, yes, Juliette, ShadowLoins do not discriminate based on gender!

    • Juliette Leroux

We totaly need a TV ad for this product, Kate. It would make the world a better place.

      • Kate G

        Ba ha ha ha ha

  • Minyassa

I’m sorry, I just…every *single* time Lampros is onscreen all I can think is “egad, I hope he is a shower and not a grower.” o_O

  • Pikinanou

    ” I don’t think I’m having any effect!” Said the fire-spec mage against the fire-elemental boss… XD
Also, Flyboy for president of the planet!! He’s so awesome!

  • Sky God.

Mitch is starting to test out new names. He know’s he’ll hate being Flyboy in a handful of years. FlyMan doesn’t sound as good 😉

    • davefragments

FlyMan sounds like something Jeff Goldblum swatted away.
Same as Michael Peña was the better part of “Ant Man” which I always here as Aunt Man. (indecision, thy name is lavender and doilies) …

“Flyboy” as a name goes back to WW1.

    • Juliette Leroux

Yeh, but I wouldn’t go for Sky God, either. A bit too boastful, no?

      • Have you met The Annihilator or Platinum Priestess 😉

        • And we really do not know any of the names of the “Professional” Super Heroes.

  • davefragments

    Hey Alex,
Bloom County for Nov 13, 2016 borrowed your color scheme with the exception of “Demon Red”

  • Earl Patterson

Daddy don’t have penis? what kind creature he is?

    • Klaus

A king of hell. He has also been refered to as a demon, and once as a devil.

In the Christian tradition, devils are fallen angels, and angles are sexless. But I suspect that Laampros is not a Christian.

      • Terri Sutton

Either that or the Church has made some edits to enforce the idea that abstinence is an heavenly ideal.

        • davefragments

I suspect that Laampros is not a Christian
I’m inclined more to that position. Older religions did not believe their gods were chaste and sex-free.

          • SchalaRenee

Kyle’s existence proves that Laampros is not sex free, unless he went the Jesus way and impregnated the mother some other way, which I can’t see him doing. He seems to enjoy “pleasures of the flesh” too much. XD

    • davefragments

      I’ll back up Klaus:
in Matthew 22:30, Jesus states that those in Heaven will not marry, but be like the angels. Angels were/are perceived as sexless beings with attributes that are usually associated with adult eunuchs.

    • Reyos Blackwood

He definitely does, look at the first page of the chapter and the back of the shadows on his right leg, I don’t think that black outline is muscle there.

      • Earl Patterson

Yes but now… they hide it

        • I don’t believe Alex has any intention of putting anything that explicit in the comic, and the closest he will go is that scene where Duncan used him to open a door to Laampros’s domain. It will always be shadowed or covered in someway.

        • This comic has nudity, but there will never be explicit genitals on page. It’s staying R-rated at most.

Any explicit content will only be found in the NSFW special 18+ posters, trading cards and special Patreon content.

  • D. G.

I kinda doubt spooky will listen. He’s been doing what he feels is best. Fortunately the demons haven’t used fire on Mitch.

    • Klaus

      Yet.

    • Juliette Leroux

Agree on that analysis of Spooky.

  • Laampy doesn’t think Kyle is having much affect either. The look on his face in panel three, it’s kinda like: Ya think?

  • davefragments

(Let me start with a parenthetical statement that I am ignoring the comic book or graphic novel plot line that starts with the death of a superhero and ends with his revival, resurrection, reincarnation, ghostly apparition, or simply deceiving the public…)
All living things can die. Hence Laampros can die. Even the universe will die or to be more precise, the universe will eventually become nothing but quantum particles in their lowest energy states.
Immortality and Longevity are often confused and mistaken for each other.

    • Klaus

No one has lived forever yet.

  • Saxon_Brenton

So, Fujoshifanatic. I’m really sorry about your crappy day earlier this week. Here, have some hellsnake fanfic.

    For your camping entertainment.

Shane And The Hellsnakes – 7th Bite
(A Young Protectors occult sitcom fanfic. Inspired by the stories of AMW comics.)

    1st Bite: http://disq.us/p/19v8eu2 2nd Bite: http://disq.us/p/1a2o442
    3rd Bite: http://disq.us/p/1alqq0b 4th Bite: http://disq.us/p/1bj02c1
    5th Bite: http://disq.us/p/1cbqswr 6th Bite: http://disq.us/p/1clrnat

    PAGE 1 – Jogging
(1.1) Panorama shot of Shane and Dewey out jogging in a local park. Various people can be seen in background, including families with pets. (Insert here various cameo appearances by other webcomic characters.)
Note that Dewey ‘jogs’ with the front of his body raised above the ground like a black mamba, and by undulating his serpentine body up and down in big bounding loops which exaggerate normal snake movement by dialling up to 11 and then setting the film projector to run at high speed. Under normal circumstances this would be terrifying, so Dewey has taken the precaution of wearing a sweatband on his head, which makes him look adorable and therefore makes everything all right.
(1.2) Closeup of Shane. He looks off to one side as his attention is caught by the sound of a little boy calling out.
Boy (from off panel): “Midnight! Come down!”
    Shane: “?”
(1.3) Wide shot. Shane and Dewey standing in foreground, with their backs to the readers. They are looking at a small group of people who are standing at the base of a tree: a little boy and his father. The tree has two trunks, and the sitting on a branch about halfway up the tree is the silhouette of a small dog. There are other people who can be seen in the far background.
(1.4) Medium shot of Shane, Dewey and the father, viewed from above, so that as they look upwards into the tree they are also looking out of the panel at the readers. Shane’s expression is surprised and impressed; the father looks disgruntled.
    Dewey: “Hisss.”
Shane: “Yeah. Central American tree dog. Hey, they’re the ones that can hunt up in the forest canopy, right?”
Father: “That’s right. We let him off the leash to play frisbee, but he got over-excited and Whoosh! straight up.”
(1.5) Midnight the puppy, who is excitedly jumping about on the tree branch, barking in excitement, with his tongue hanging out and looking all slobbery. Midnight: “Bahk! Bahk! Bahk!”

    PAGE 2 – Climbing
(2.1) Medium shot of Shane, Dewey, the father, and the boy. The boy is looking upwards and is totally engrossed with coaxing the dog down, and is holding a frisbee. His father is also looking upwards at Midnight. Meanwhile Shane is looking at the tree trunk lower down.
Boy: “Come on Midnight! Come down and fetch.”
Midnight (from above and off panel): “Bahk!”
(2.2) Shane is starting to take off his shoes. Dewey and the father glance at him in surprise.
Shane: “You know, with two trunks that shouldn’t be too hard to climb.”
Father: “Uh, hey, I appreciate the thought, but he’s up pretty high.”
(2.3) Shane (with shoes off) is standing next to the tree trunks, and touching one of them with an outstretched hand as he looks upwards speculatively. The other three feature characters can’t be seen (they’re off panel behind Shane), but other random park goers can be seen in the far background.
Shane: “Yeah, but with two trunks you can shimmy your way up by using your back as well as your arms and legs.”
(2.4) Shane is starting to lever his way upwards by bracing himself between the two trunks. He is up a few feet and looks at Dewey. Dewey still sits on the ground next to Shane’s shoes.
    Shane: “You coming?”
    Dewey: “Hisss.”
    Shane: “Suit yourself.”

    PAGE 3 – Rescuing
(3.1) Shane has climbed up the tree, and is now face-to-face with Midnight. Shane reaches out to grab the puppy. Midnight looks happy and wants to play.
Shane: “Well, hi there. You must be Midnight. We need to get you back downstairs.”
    Midnight: “Bahk! Bahk! Bahk!”
(3.2) Shane has climbed back down, and is in the process of putting one foot back on the ground while also handing the puppy back.
Shane: “Here you go. Better keep a closer eye on him.”
Boy: “I’ve got his leash right here. Thanks mister!”
(3.3) The father smiles and shakes Shane’s hand.
Father: “Thanks for that, but you didn’t need to go to the trouble.”
Shane: “It wasn’t a big deal. And I’m not going to say no to a chance to show off, you know?”

    PAGE 4 – Guarding
(4.1) Shane kneels down to talk to Dewey, who is sitting on his shoes.
    Dewey: “Hisss.”
Shane: “Really? Well I guess you were right to stay down after all. Was it some homeless guy who tried to take them?”
(4.2) Dewey shakes his head emphatically. Shane is balancing on one leg as he puts one pair of sock and shoe back on, and is also rolling his eyes.
    Dewey: “Hisss.”
Shane: “Of *course* it would be some guy in an Armani suit. Some people just do stuff to be assholes.”
(4.3) Dewey raises one eyeridge in a particularly dubious expression as he makes a pointed comment. Shane is balancing on the other leg as he puts the final sock and shoe back on.
    Dewey: “Hisss.”
Shane: “Don’t make me get Louie to explain random acts of kindness to you again.”
(4.4) Shane (with all his footwear back on) and Dewey walk off across the park.
Shane: “Damn! I just realised. If this were a movie, that would’ve been the ‘save the cat’ moment. I’ve turned into a cliche!”
    Dewey: “Hisss.”
Shane: “Says you. It doesn’t literally need to be cat to fit that cliche.”

    End

    —-
Finally figured out a story that didn’t involve directly copying the plot of some other piece of fiction. The tree stuff is based on something I did a few years ago. Over the Christmas/summer break my dad, sister and myself did a half day boating trip in a state forest, and – quick version of events – to show off I shimmied up about 10 metres between two tree trunks. Dad was impressed that an overweight mid-40s could pull that off.

    • davefragments

That was fun to read. Nice work.

      • Pietro7

What Dave said. 🙂 Thanks, Saxon, I’m enjoying your fanfic.

I have this bad habit of forgetting about camping.
I actually remembered today!! … But I am like SUPER early.
So I’m gonna leave and try to come back at a more reasonable hour… I hope I don’t forget.
But incase I do, have a s’more for me!

  • stickfigurefairytales

So, I was too depressed to camp on Friday, but I’m feeling stronger now. How is everybody else holding up? And can I offer you a s’more?

    • Saxon_Brenton

I’ve just been busy at work, and had the discussion page in a browser tab in the background. But my sweet tooth will almost never say ‘no’ to marshmallow, chocolate and biscuit.

      • stickfigurefairytales

        Here you go, Saxon!

        • Pietro7

I brought some Jordan Almonds (candy-covered almonds) in pastel colors. I think they are left over from a wedding and one of the relatives who cleaned up the place afterwards gave them away. Nom nom, anyone?

          • stickfigurefairytales

            Sure, I’ll have some! Thanks!

    • davefragments

I worked for six presidential administrations. I’ve had practice with losses and changes. This one, however is turning into a giant mess. The words FUBAR and Cluster-(Be nice, Dave) come to mind.

      • Doki remembers there are acronyms for the cluster ****, but cannot remember them.

        • Doki almost remembers what all FUBAR stands for…

          Doki is rusty.

          • davefragments

            Fffed Beyond all recognition

          • Funnily enough, Doki remembered that almost right after she hit enter on that comment. -_-

          • davefragments

The best thing that happened to me was that in the middle of last week, the entire cable — (TV, Internet, and Phone) — went out for 18 hours. I got to read a nice book and watch DVD’s. Complete absence of news.

          • That sounds lovely!

          • davefragments

I watched the Angela Lansbury stage production of SWEENEY TODD, Hogfather (a Canadian tv version) and Tannhauser.

          • Love Hogfather!!!

            Me too!!

          • stickfigurefairytales

            *F—ed Up Beyond All Recognition

      • stickfigurefairytales

        It’s a genuinely horrible time.

      • Gregory In Seattle

I would use FUBAPR: beyond all possible recognition. By at least an order of magnitude.

        • davefragments

I’ve see messy transitions but never one as backstabbing and “ugly in the news” as this.

    • Doki mostly just wants to cuddle, but will accept the chocolate part of the smores.

      • stickfigurefairytales

*hands over chocolate and snuggles up to Doki*

  • davefragments

On a completely absurd note – I’m watched DIRK GENTLY’S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY. If you can make it through the madness and wild absurdities of episodes 1 and 2 then episode 3 starts to make sense and episode 4 is exciting. Think of the British six hour version of the HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY but with hidden devious plots and several sets of bad guys.

  • *whispers* Pssssssssst

There is a new Yuri on Ice episode tomorrow.

    • Where? Because My curiosity has been piqued.

      • Crunchyroll and I forget the other legitimate site you can watch it on.

        • Doki also knows a couple of possibly non-as-legit sites….

          • stickfigurefairytales

HorribleSubs is an excellent one on that front.

          • Doki’s brother showed her animefreak and she is also a little familiar with gogoanime

        • Cool, thanks! Is it under subscription?

          • I think you can watch all the episodes that don’t have a crown without a paid subscription on crunchy, I think

          • I’ll take a look!

    • stickfigurefairytales

      <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

    • Yeees~
I’m two episodes behind but will use an hour in the weekend to catch up.

  • jreed3842

I remembered to make it to camping tonight!!! Yay!!!
    How is everyone?!

        Good! 🙂

    • Saxon_Brenton

      Going well.

    • Working on it. 🙂

  • Hi campers 🙂

    • davefragments

      Hi Danish

    • jreed3842

      Howdy, Danish! How are ya?

      • This fine, cold morning I’m doing fine 🙂
Had a nice evening at my aunt’s place and got my first serving of two Danish x-mas season sweets – a cake and kind of a rice pudding dessert ( so much more yummy than it sounds).

        • jreed3842

!!! I am always a fan of Christmas season sweets! Those both sound yummy!!
My roommate’s girlfriend made some carrotcake… So I’ve been snacking on that!

          • The cakes are made in serving pieces. I don’t think they have an English name, as they’re a Scandinavian thing. They’re boiled in fat, not bakes. Basically like something fried just with fat not oil. Sound so icky, but made right so yummy.

The rice dessert is made in a rice porridge (that is a dinner dish in itself, but I don’t like), and it’s mixed with whipped cream, vanilla sugar, a bit of almond essence, and chopped almonds. Can be eaten like that but is usually served with cold or hot (sweet) cherry sauce on the side. If made right, with enough whipcream, sooo good (my aunt makes both these things amazing).
It’s customary to use this dessert as an ‘almond game’. Besides the chopped almonds, a peeled whole almond is put into it. The one who finds it will get a small present, but it’s also about trying to hide you got it until the content in the bowl is eaten 🙂

          • davefragments

My Aunt used to make a fried Christmas thing that started life as a chocolate cake. It was crumbled and rolled inside a sweet cookie-like dough. Think of a cookie wonton, but chubby… then deep fried and covered in powdered sugar.
Very good but I would never try it on my own.

          • Does sound very yummy.
I’m not much of a cook/baker, and have never made these two dishes on my own. One day I will/want to learn the rice dessert though.

          • davefragments

My Mother used to make a recipe for “thumbnail cookies” that had the line at the bottom “Nuts if you have them” … No other instructions.

She also used to make Pizzelles (waffle cookies) and the recipe varied depending on the egg size used. No dozen eggs are the same.

          • Kitkat822

            The rice pudding sounds delicious!

          • If made correctly with enough with enough whipped cream, so it’s not like eating rice with a little cream, it’s amazing. My dad, and especially his sister (one of my aunts) make some of the best I’ve tasted.
Another aunt (now ex-aunt due to loss of uncle) made something so… robust, bately any cream in it, that I weirdly enough didn’t eat a portion larger than a few spoonfuls. Out of politeness xD

        • stickfigurefairytales

          Ooh, yummy!
