So! Looks like Devil Dad is trying to remake his son in his own image. But it seems like Commander might have something to say about that! Will she be able to put Mean Daddy back in his place? (That place being the depths of Hell, of course.)

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  • davefragments

And Admiral Jane takes on a demon lord — will she reduce him to impotence or will she merely hold him at bay?

    • bronakopdin

will she hold “him” at bay?

      sorry, not sorry x’D

      • davefragments

Did I stick my foot in my mouth and say something double-entendre?

        • bronakopdin

it might just be me and my hopeless mind >/////<

          • davefragments

That’s OK. I’m still an innocent nerd about certain matters.

  • Um… I wonder if Commander should have done that first.

  • Songbird

Oh god, Amanda don’t you DARE sacrifice yourself!

  • Maybe she needed to be properly motivated to take on a king of hell?

  • camelotcrusade

You know, that beard flapping around reminds me of Edna Mode’s “no capes!” speech in that it could be snared and lead to bad things for Laampros. And as long as he insists on going commando he’s just asking for a kick in the hellballs.

    • davefragments

Edna might tweak his beard but she;s the only one who could get away with that stunt.

  • davefragments

I think that she is buying time until the cavalry arrives

  • Mariona

Amanda! She’s being amazing, but I have a bad feeling about this.

  • Mitch and Spooky, flying together…^_^ It is time for the next update right?

  • Jeldenil

Big daddy: women, they always give me headaches

  • Squishy

I wonder when we are going to get more info on the kickstarter for the next book. Alex and Adam teased it during the online interview thing a few weeks back. I was almost hoping that might go on my Christmas list this year but I guess not. (Well it would be ordered for Christmas I realize it wouldn’t get here until much later, but then kickstarter is a platform that generally is not designed for holiday shopping)

  • Amanda on the war path. Be careful!

So there is ways to hurt him mentally. I hoped so since there’s many kinds of psychic powers, and a difference in example feeling emotions and thoughts. Empathy and telepathy.

The ‘dangers’ of an empath is interpreting emotions in another way than the thought behind. Laampros is some sort of empath, but seems to have a vunerability to telepathy. Question is how much, and if he can fight back on same level once he gathers himself?

(Empathy vs. telepathy is why I’m slightly lenient of Tsu’s reaction on previous page, and how Kyle sensed/felt them. How Kyle ended up interpreting them, after Laampros told him what it was, may not fully be the true/full reaction to Tsu’s feeling of horror when seeing what happened to Kyle)

    • Juliette Leroux

Yes, indeed, Lamproos is a master of manipulation. Tsu’s feelings have probably been distorted. Well, let’s hope anyway. Next action/speach of Tsu will show us where he lies.

  • Zephyr10101

im both scared for her and mad cause i wanted to see demon kyle xD

  • Librarican

Don’t involve Fluke at this critical moment! He’s still super charged for bad juju!

Also, what a vote for confidence towards Tsunami that he can continue to hold the minions at bay for a little longer while they beat a hasty retreat. What’s going to happen to him though when everyone else starts abandoning ship?

    • Squishy

Fluke might be in the positive now. Since he last said he was in the negative a king of hell sauntered into their dimension and his best friend has been half transformed into a demon. He could very well be recharged.

      • Adam Black

Yeah its all probably Flukes fault.

        • Madock345

Fluke is our little narrative Imp who ensures that everything goes to hell on a regular basis but always bounces back just in time XD

        • Squishy

It’s not necessarily Fluke’s fault per-say… I always picture his powers like one of the RPG systems I play. Like he has a pool of “luck” points that he can spend to affect the outcome of a situation (force someone to re-roll and take the better or the worse of the two rolls) although in Fluke’s case it’s more then that. Most of the outcomes he gets are more like forcing players to take nat-20s and nat-1s… with a very creative DM narrating how those successes and failures play out. He apparently can also spend past that point pool and take “anti-luck” points. Now it sounds like his anti-luck points and maybe even his luck points are semi-uncontrolled. So he would loose the anti-luck points with the GM deciding what rolls those points would get spent on. But also just general bad things happening seem to power up Fluke and they don’t nessesarily have to do with him spending anti-luck points in a way that directly impacts the outcome of a situation. If we look at the two situations that Fluke said powered him up (his car getting wrecked and Kyle getting screwed over) then the situation with is car can be seen as “bad luck” especially because he just paid it off. While Kyle’s situation had less to do with luck so it doesn’t seem as though Fluke’s powers or “anti-luck” points would come directly into play.

(Of course this is all just speculation)

  • David Welbourn

I love those art effects used to portray Commander’s power. There’s not just the starburst flares near the head. You’ve also got the whole SKY echoing the severity of the attack.

  • Ian Corral

She will most likely suffer a severe psychic backlash like most people who get a lucky hit against a superior power. He will return the insolence in kind. Kind of a recurring theme.

    • timemonkey

If she’s clever she can turn that into a loop so it feeds right back into hurting him.

      • Ian Corral

Except that’s not what will happen. You forget what is being dealt with here.

        • timemonkey

And you forget we’ve already been told there’s a happy ending. Big Red is going to lose in the end, which means he can’t be invincible and it’s already established the bigger heroes aren’t coming to save the day. The Commander being able to hurt or at least keep him off balance is likely the first step to winning.

          • Ian Corral

No it’s not. It’s going to probably be something in regards to Kyle and his new power song with friendship or acceptance plus the souls they have access to.

But yeah he’s going to lose and there is going to be a happy ending. All that is painfully obvious.

          • Hey, both of you two. Looks like you sorted your debate, but if you continue, remember to keep it calm. You-statements, making assumptions about one another, can take this too far.

          • timemonkey

I said she’d be the first step in the direction of beating him, not the entire plan. It’s Kyle’s story, of course he’s going to be the tipping point.

          • Nirgal

What worries me is that we’ve been told there’s a happy ending for Kyle. He’s the only one guaranteed to come out of this.

          • timemonkey

Mitch is probably safe for the same reasons Kyle is.

    • Adam Black

      It isnt lucky.
He just revealed his weakness to her, and she struck.
He’s an empathy demon, and shes a very powerful telepath.

      • Ian Corral

Actually it is lucky. It’s a common trope when facing greater powers. A lucky strike is mistake for an advantage or weakness when it was just them off guard.

  • Cman65

this would be like plugging a 9volt toy into the mains power

  • Where IS that military? Don’t know if it will be worse for the team when they arrive, but I’m afraid for Amanda, and any possible backlash from Laampros soon. Or, how long can Amanda keep this up, before she exhaust herself to the limit of hurting herself or beyond?

    • Juliette Leroux

Oh yes, the military that was suppose to arrive “soon”…

      • Maybe they got close, saw what actually came through the door, and said ‘we’re gonna need a bigger boat’.

      • Foye

It’s because you’re too used to human time. Here the military clearly use “Valve Time”; when they say “soon”, it means “tomorrow” or “in a week from now on”. It may also mean “never”. You should also totally switch your normal clock for a valve clock and your calendar for a valve calendar. It’s better when you want to appoint a meeting or give yourself a deadline. In other words, as splendid as downloading hardware!

  • timemonkey

Commander finally loses her temper and seems to be the first one whose attack was actually felt!

    • Juliette Leroux

Indeed, he obviously doesn’t like what she does. Good point, there is hope still!

      • Madock345

He was using empathetic powers at the time, open to psychic impressions. She basically kicked him in the balls when he was trying to do a split.

        • Juliette Leroux

Oh, I love this analogy! Very graphic 🙂

  • Mary Klemzak

I kinda think Commander should be specific who she was talking to, like, “You, firey demon dude, get away from my young friend!”

I think we all pretty much know who’s she’s talking to, right? Laampros. Who should seriously put on pants, at least. Nice job hiding his junk, behind various props and shadows!

  • jreed3842

    Hell. Yes!
    Go, Amanda!!

  • Stubbylegs

I’m pretty sure Laampros is voguing in the last panel.

  • PreludeToA

    noble sacrifice inc?

  • Adam Black

So Spooky , Kyle, and Laampros all get glowing white eyes.

  • Sunseahl Silverfall

    *whispers* Mind Freak…..

  • Sapfo

If you can´t stand the fire, stand by the Commander.
She is going a darn good job!

  • Jen Roberts

I still love Commander the most, and I fear for her safety. (I fear for all of them.)

  • Right now what Amanda’s seeing isn’t a god, it’s just another superpowered villain with ambitions to rule the world and hurt her team in the process. Full on Mama Bear mode has just been triggered…

  • Shiny Gwilly

    oh geez, you go commander!
i have a feeling there’s a reason she didn’t do this before; she has more faith in her team to push demon daddy back enough, and she has a feeling/knows she’ll probably get a major headache taking him on like this, also the whole element of surprise

be careful commander and rest of team! this might be the true moment where things can REALLY go wrong, or slightly go right

  • TwilightDreamer

    Whoa! Go Commander! 😀 wahoo!!

  • Juliette Leroux

She’s so badass, wow, I love the Commender so much! But that means no pushing daddy through the door right now. Well, you have to do what you have to do.

  • bronakopdin

    jeeeeeeesh, I hope they’ll be fine >///////<
yes please, get Kyle and Spooky out of there but PLEASE make it out there ALL OF YOU!!!!

Amanda surely is my hero T____T

  • timemonkey

Too much in one go could kill him, repeated smaller doses seem to be fine.

    • Ember

Ah. “Drink too much of my power, and you will die” just seemed like if he took on too much in this battle it would kill him. But maybe with these short bursts Kyle is building up a tolerance and can bear more power each time?

      • Madock345

See, Kyle is like a balloon, and the fire is like air, and then something bad happens.

  • fujoshifanatic

YAAAAS Commander! Go get Kyle’s life!

  • Pikinanou

    • El Chupacabre

Would like to see the epic rap battles of history of this

      • Juliette Leroux

        Ooooh yes!

  • Geneva150

Love her! This entire page has so much energy in it, fantastic artwork!

  • Jeff Baker

  • Gaz Hawkins

the big question is – how will daddy react when he finds out his son is gay…. and that the man who used his son is laying on the floor in front of him. – will this be something Kyle and the team can use against Laampros?

    • Quinn Wendland

He already knew from earlier in the story.

    • Vaira

I think in demon world it absolutely doesn’t matter. You like boys or raisins or prefer cats to dogs, same importance.

  • Алексей Широколава

Sigh. Those demon overlord with single-track mind… Completely unable to think about more than one thing at once.

Seriously, what’s the reason of conquering the world, if you couldn’t comprehend two simple task sultaneously? The world dictator, that is unable to take into account at least several hundreds problems at the same time would soon face the full-scale revolution on all levels. Demon or not, no matter.

P.S. Hm, maybe that’s why this supposed “Demon King” are trying to sneak on Earth? People’s revolution in his own dimension, and he was kicked away from throne because of incompetence?

    • davefragments

Have you ever read the “The Top 100 Things I’d Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord” list?
It’s a lot of fun things Evil Overlords do poorly (in short, they suck at management)…

      • KatKaleen

Easily explainable. “Leaders” are usually extroverted and dominant. If a personality is built that way, they usually suck at keeping things steady. It’s hard to wave to your underlings AND do any accounting. Except Cthulhu, of course. No more need for accounting, then.
Edit: Whops, that was meant as an answer to Алексей Широколава. My bad.

      • Алексей Широколава

//Have you ever read the “The Top 100 Things I’d Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord” list?//

Oh yeah! 🙂 Very good and funny thing! 🙂

  • Rodrigo Campanaro

    • KatKaleen

      Klaatu barada nikto!

      • LimpBiskit

more or less. but only if its every single syllable

  • Nirgal

I think this is going to end up badly for Amanda. She’s definitely going after more than she can handle.

And I think it will be the moment Kyle snaps out and faces Big Daddy.

    • Juliette Leroux

Let’s hope not? I would really like not to see the old trope of “murdered woman gives a reason to the male hero to become stronger”.

      • KatKaleen

        Woman in the fridge… eurgh.

      • Alt+F7

But that’s not what this would be. This would be “Heroic sacrifice of leader allows sub-ordinates to get away and seek to achieve their commander’s vision.”

Making female characters immune from depth can rob them of some powerful moments and motivations.

That said, I do not think the commander will die here, but I do think this is a dangerous and uneven match up for her to take on alone. She is being brave, she is being a leader and putting her team before herself.

    • Brenia

I’m hoping that Amanda can distract him long enough for Kyle to collect himself and face Laampy.

  • D. G.

Well Commander is much more courageous than I knew. I’m impressed.

  • Jason Moon

“Is this the mythological ‘Bitch Slap’ that my legions have whimpered so much about? Is this connected to that bizarre ‘can of whoop-ass’ that seems to peppering their cowering recently? How interesting.”

  • Ruben

Ach, lady is spoiling the fun again.

  • Dennis Grace

    Sic ‘im, Commander.

  • KatKaleen

Hell yeah! Amanda is taking care of her youngsters and her world!
… I know it’s stupid to compare comics, but I was tempted to say “Amanda is going full Xavier on his ass”.

    • Curt Clark

You are not alone in this. Lifelong X-Men fan here, and Charles (or more specifically, Dani Moonstar) is EXACTLY where I was going.

    • Ant-Man

she needs to go full on Jean Grey_ Marvel-Girl_ with the power of the Phoenix Force_ probably the Dark Phoenix cause that’s more bad-ass

      • KatKaleen

Patrick Stewart was my childhood hero as Capt. Picard and seeing him being torn apart was very disturbing. O_O

        • Ant-Man

it was, wasn’t it_ luv patrick stew_ very cool-
very funny on Family Man animated tv show as CIA director

  • KatKaleen

Everybody loves Cthulhu! Okay, just those who have read H.P. Lovecraft and are not mortally afraid of the elder gods… they love Cthulhu!

    • davefragments

But remember: In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.
And there Cthulhu dreams and his followers see his dreams in their sleep in the darkest hours of the night, in their darkest fears, in their fever dreams. And so dreaming, they know and they obey, for they follow without question or spoken word but the dreams, the nightmares, the visions never leave their minds.

      • KatKaleen

What deeper beauty can there be?
I’m off to sleep. Have a nice day, Dave. 🙂

  • T Dibbler

Nice one Commander! I just don’t actually think you’re powerful enough to pull this one off. :/ Of course, as a leader and friend you have to try anyway, and I respect that.

  • Shadizar Silvermask

Isn’t Fluke the one with the karmic power that’s WAY overloaded currently? Wouldn’t he be the LAST person you’d want getting Kyle?

    • Klaus

Yes. Unless the latest turn of events has charged him up again.

      • Shadizar Silvermask

The latest events though aren’t really related to his bad luck, they’d also have to be a LOT worse given how much bad luck he absorbed earlier and a product of his power before he could get purged of it and back on the good side. Like doing something that really helped the bad guy initially.

  • Aitsuki

Careful, Commander… that’s a very ancient mind you’re going up against!

    • Pietro7

      Yeah. I’m scared for Amanda.

  • Brenia

    I love that lady’s toughness.

  • Curt Clark

I always underestimate the telepaths…You’d think a lifetime of X-Men fandom would have taught me better by now. :p

  • Klaus

Now Amanda forces Laampros back through the gate, closing it. The military arrives with tools to open the box. Spooky puts the souls back. Everybody live happily (in the case of the YP) or ever after (in the case of PP and Duncan). Hmm, it doesn’t sound suitably dramitic. Maybe there will be a bump or two on the road.

    • Such wishful thinking. 🙂

  • Dekira

Bc i’m hopeless and want drama, my soul needs for Duncan to go and try to stop/help Kyle with the cheesiest dialog ever .

    • davefragments

      Mac and Cheese cheesy

      • Dekira

I’ve come to terms that i’m a hopeless cheese lover so… McCheese all the way

    • Curt Clark

I just watched Moana the other day so I am absolutely on board with Kyle getting a soul-affirming Disney pep talk. :p

  • Pietro7

I’m missing Chris Dangerfield’s incisive commentary right about now. 🙁

  • Snorlaxation

Score 1 for those telepathic blasts!

  • Jerry Murry

I get the creepiest vibe off that second speech bubble. Just… Just no…

  • Shjade

Oh jeez. Opening yourself to telepathic counterplay with a demon lord seems like a really risky plan. 😡

    • Curt Clark

On the upside, psychic battles have historically lent themselves to Doctor Strange levels of amazing imagery.

  • Skudplastr

Laampros’s reaction in the last panel: “Eww, girl-thoughts!”

    • davefragments

      Thanks, I needed that.

  • Ant-Man

if there were giant demon kings- i would think it highly unlikely that a psychic human could psychically attack it successfully..
a human (natural) brain versus a demon king (super-natural) demon king brain. i would think the human brain would be fried by his demonic essence- plus she’s got a tiny brain and he’s got a giant, demon brain. etc etc…
_ i imagine if a demon king could be affected by a psychic human- it would be something like being annoyed by a gnat trying to get his attention. .

and just how is fluke going to get kyle out of there- they r in the middle of nowhere. plus kyle is all flamey/demony/angry… fluke supposed to take 1/2 demon kyle to the plane and fly away ?
_wouldn’t it make more sense for flyboy 2 get kyle out of there- he can swoop down fast, grab, fly away.. then kyle could use his demony powers to seduce mitch…burn his clothes away, etc, etc..
    – plus fluke could use his good luck to bring spooky 2 his senses_ or his bad luck 2 make spooky lose all the spirits/souls.

the demon king is a giant and can shoot hell fire- how r these kids not all burned up yet?

get kyle’s other biological donor parent there- an arch-angel or a seraphim_ to help engage against the demon king. and since we’re talking super-natural beings- kyle’s other parent could be a male angel – who knows how demons/angels procreate. _ if kyle is 1/2 human (though i’m holding out 4 1/2 demon and 1/2 angel) they must b able to take human form to procreate_or possess humans_ so it wouldn’t matter if their super-natural demon/angel selves r male or female- so kyle could have 2 daddies_ wouldn’t that b a good side story_ how a demon king and warrior angel fell in love and sexed it up to make baby kyle_ maybe lamp was just a demon prince when he helped make kyle. maybe a kinder, gentler demon_ but when he became a demon king he had 2 take in evil power like he’s now trying 2 make kyle take in his evil fire…

  • jreed3842

I am so glad it’s Tuesday night.
I have been on the edge of my seat these past few pages!
I am dying to know what happens next.

For your camping entertainment: hellsnake fanfic

Shane And The Hellsnakes – 8th Bite
(A Young Protectors occult sitcom fanfic. Inspired by the stories of AMW comics.)

    1st Bite: | 2nd Bite:
    3rd Bite: | 4th Bite:
    5th Bite: | 6th Bite:
    7th Bite:

PAGE 1 – Recovering From Family
(1.1) Panorama establishing shot of Shane’s living room. Shane is holding a coffee cup and has just opened the door to let Alice in. Huey and Louie are in the background on one side of the panel, sitting on the sofa and with body language that indicates they are playing video games. However, the sofa is facing away from the readers, so as to preserve the running joke that we never get to see how the hellsnakes do things without hands or opposable thumbs. However Dewey in the semi-foreground on the other side of panel, working on the computer, and he is clearly visible using his tail to work the mouse.
Shane: “Hey. How’d the family visit go?”
Alice: “It went fine. The nephews and nieces were cute, but they’re exhausting at that age…”
(1.2) Twoshot of Shane and Alice as the unshaven Shane closes the door. Alice gives Shane a bewildered look.
    Shane: “What?”
Alice: “Have you dyed your hair green for Christmas? I mean… How? It’s only stubble length.”
(1.3) Medium shot of the living room as Shane walks towards the sofa.
Shane: “Nah. I just haven’t shaved my beard and scalp today. It’s naturally green.”
Louie: (looking up from the game and glancing at Shane) “These days.”
    Shane: (in agreement) “These days.”

PAGE 2 – Green Beard (No Pirates Involved)
(2.1) Medium shot of Shane and Alice sitting on one end of the sofa. Huey and Louie are just off-panel sitting at the other end (we can just see Huey’s tail). Alice is picking up a cup from the tray on the table in front of the sofa.
Alice: “Sounds like there’s a story there.”
Shane: “There’s not much to tell.”
(2.2) Same medium shot of Shane and Alice still sitting on the sofa. Shane is pouring coffee for Alice.
    Dewey: (from off-panel) “Hisss.”
    Shane: (to Dewey): “Okay, fine.”
Shane: (to Alice): “You know how in comic books when someone has a radiation accident they get superpowers, but in real life they just get radiation poisoning and die?”
    Alice: (warily) “Uhm… Yes?”
(2.3) Same medium shot of Shane and Alice sitting on the sofa. Huey has turned his attention away from the video game and is now leaning into panel to watch Shane.
Shane: “So it turns out I got somewhere between the two, but closer to the real life than to the comic books. Turned my hair green. I don’t shave my head to hide male pattern baldness.
Alice: “So, no superpowers, but no radiation poisoning.”
(2.4) Same medium shot of Shane and Alice sitting on the sofa. Huey is now curled up on Shane’s lap being affectionate.
Shane: (patting Huey) “No superpowers, and only minor radiation poisoning. The cancer’s been in remission for a few years now, so we’re pretty sure we’ve got it beat, right guys?”
    SFX: (from Huey) Hugs!!!

      Yay for Hellsnake fanfic!

      Good addition to the story

  • davefragments

    Hi Campers,
    How’s it going tonight?

    • The air is damp here and my throat feels a touch scratchy. -_-

      • davefragments

Light snow (an inch) and 30°F.
        I didn’t go out today.

        • I don’t blame you. That requires being indoors by a fire place with a hot cup of something in your hands

          • davefragments

I am so happy that I could just dance.
I found my owls that I thought the painters threw out.

          • Yay!! Are they for scaring off crows?

          • davefragments

No, a sculpture, chubby white owls on a branch about 7 inches tall and they always sat on my mantle with another owl sculpture. Nothing special but something I got got for doing a good job at a task.

          • Well then double yay!!

    • Saxon_Brenton

Hiding in my nice air-conditioned workplace because Sydney is having a heatwave. But other than that, doing great.

      • davefragments

It’s supposed to go down to 10°F tomorrow night.

    • Doki isn’t sure she will camp or not. In a bit of a funk….I am blaming the start of the funk on the cookies and things just spiraled from there

      • davefragments

Too many cookies… I’ve done that.

        • No, the dough didn’t turn out right and I added more flour and put them back to chill, but I just….wanna curl up in bed and …..sleep

          • davefragments

My Mother made Pizzelles and the original recipe called for eggs, oil, and enough flour so you feel the oil on your hands. That drove people crazy.

Poor Doki! It’s never fun when baking refuses to cooperate. I hope you can get some good rest, though.

  • Hi campers 🙂

If you have a little time, and live somewhere where it’s evening/night now, and the skye is clear, look out the window. The annually meteor-shower , the Geminides, is most active this night. It’s one of the most active showers of the year. Depending on where you are (disturbings from city light), you can see between 30-150 shooting stars an hour.
Sadly it’s also a full moon, so that makes the weaker shots hard to see, but of you watch before/after the moon is highest on the skye, around midnight or early morning hours, the view is better. If not tonight, there’s still some shooting stars in the next couple of nights, but tonight is the peek of it.
