Artifice Page 7

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce Dr. Clarice Maven.

Will she be Deacon’s friend? What do you think?

There are certain 2 or 3 panel exchanges between the characters, framed in close-up, that I love in this comic. The last two panels of this page are one of them. Winona totally nailed the expressions of the two of them here—just what I was looking for.

If you particularly enjoy any of these pages and use Facebook, please click the Like button on that page. It’s useful to know what’s working and it helps me get the word out. :)

Whaddaya know, seven pages in and I already LOVE thic comic :)

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

      Yay! Thank you, James!

  • Rocket

Haha, this is the very first webcomic I’ve ever committed to following when it updates. I LOVE YOU, ALEX~ <3

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

That’s awesome! You couldn’t say a nicer thing to a webcomic creator. :)

      Big hugs!

  • http://profiles.google.com/winteronmercury Chama Kennedy

Their expressions really are great in the last two panels. I especially love Deacon’s in the last one. I already like Dr. Clarice Maven, whether she ends up on Deacon’s side or not. Sense of humour, and brave enough to sit in a room with him and even have a long, awkward silence. Sweet page, guys! C: I love it. <3

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

I’m really glad you like Maven. And yep, she is both brave and does indeed have a sense of humor, as you’ll see in future pages…. ;)

  • http://profiles.google.com/thegoutcast Aaron Goler

Great job so far! It’s hard to be patient and wait for another page every week though :D

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Thank you! I’m glad you’re liking it!

(And I think I might have found a good plugin for that donate-to-get-a-bonus-page-for-that-week idea a reader suggested. So, I could be trying that out soon and that might mean putting up some extra pages every now and then. We’ll see… :) )

Has anyone noticed that the most approachable and seemingly kind people are the ones with the major closeups?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Katherine-Mackay/592119860 Katherine Mackay

Love! The expressions are perfect an the mood, I find very amusing. I am not sure what kind of voice I picture Deacon’s voice being. Something flat an straight forward. Maybe like Sheldon’s in Big Bang Theory with a touch of coldness. XD Keep up the great work Alex. Can not wait for next week.

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

That’s an interesting question what Deacon’s voice sounds like. I can hear it in my head, but I don’t have a specific actor connected to it. I’m going to have to think more about that…

      Thank you for the props!

  • http://lady-blue-peach.livejournal.com/ *Blue*

    I luv this character…

  • http://twitter.com/robo_asa asaba

My goodness! I’m not going to lie, I was hooked after reading the first page! Deacon is such an intriguing character and he has only said about five sentences! :D I really like characters who can pull a reader in without having to do much. I’m interested in seeing how Maven will go about interacting with Deacon. I can’t wait to see how these characters will be developed and what more we get to learn about them. :)

Also, I have to mention the last panel on this page never ceases to make me chuckle. Here we have Deacon who was just deemed an “inhuman” killing machine with a logo on his uniform that has a smiling sun rising out of the clouds. Not to mention that smug expression, simply BRILLIANT! :D

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Yay! You noticed the logo! I was wondering when someone was going to do that. Yep, you’re seeing my sense of humor in action there. I’m thinking of actually having that logo be on the official Artifice t-shirts. Which I still need to get around to making……..

Thank you very much for you kind words. I hope you keep liking what you read! :D

  • Sascha Möbus

I love this page. I can already tell that dear Dr. Maven will be a fascinating character.

On another note, that sun logo on Deacon’s shirt is a company logo isn’t it? It’s also on the grey building you can see through the window.

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Indeed, it is a corporate logo. It belongs to the corporation that created Deacon. :)

      Thank you for the props!

  • http://profiles.google.com/rach.macwhirter Rach Macwhirter

The pretty guy from the ad hasn’t shown up and I’m at the end of the comic? Baww. Guess that means I’ll just have to keep on coming back and checking ;)

  • http://profiles.google.com/rach.macwhirter Rach Macwhirter

(But seriously, I’m loving this comic so far. The art is impeccable and the storyline is already gripping. Keep up the good work!)

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

      Thank you!

(And I promise that the pretty guy—his name is Jeff—will be joining us in the near future. ;) )

    Fan. Ta. Stic.
I can’t believe it’s only seven pages so far. I’m fully hooked. I mean, my brain almost exploded from how overwhelmingly amazing this comic is.
What I think I like most are the ethical ideas emerging behind the story. Mmm, brain food.

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Oo, good. You like the ethics. I was a philosophy major in college whose main interest was ethics and so you’ll see a little bit of that in this comic. Glad to hear that’s one of your favorite parts.:D

And thank you very much for your kind words. I hope to see you here for the next page!

  • http://profiles.google.com/towngurl Victoria Storlie

I am really likin’ this guy. I mean at first he really came off as artifcial and lifeless, then goes smirky bastard mode! Sweet
The art is beautiful by the way.

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Thank you! (And I’ll let Winona know that you’re enjoying her work!)

Found this on a monday morning after absolutely no sleep and it cheered me up. Looking forward to seeing what comes for Deacon. Interesting concept and furture plot developmental possibilities. Great Work!

Thank you! Glad to hear it cheered you up. ;)

Dammit. Slow northern hemisphere people! It’s Saturday afternoon here!! haha

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Hehe. I’m in the kitchen baking the next page right now! Just a few more hours… :D

      • syn2554

        Coool!

      • syn2554

I got so addicted to ‘Tough’ too that I nearly died when the second chapter ended…

        • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Don’t die! I need cool readers like yourself! ;)

And yes, more Tough is on the way. The art for Chapter 3 is taking a bit longer than I expected, but the pencils are now finished and are currently being flatted, so hopefully we’ll be jumping on colors soon. Glad you’re enjoying that one too.

  • http://twitter.com/MarliMusicFreak Marlene Jelmert

Deacon’s expression in the last panel… Damn x]

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Yeah, I like that too. :)

  • ErrorTime

I love his smug look on the last panel~

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

I agree. Winona came up with just the right expression for that line of dialogue. :)

  • Exile 755 is a Higglytown hero

I’ve been re-reading this, and I gotta say, with all the work you put into this, the wait is so worth it. Each tiny facial expression gives off so much emotion, it’s brilliant! I love Deacon. XD He’s so cool.

    • http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ Alex Woolfson

Thank you very much! I’m really glad to hear you’re enjoying it—even on a second read! :)

      • Guest

Alex I (and I’m sure others) enjoy this fairly frequently. I just love it.
